DRIVING ON A BUSY STREET, TURNED DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET AND THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. WE HAVE OWN THE CAR SINCE JUNE, 2013 AND THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM. THE WILL BE A BEEP ,THEN THE EPS AND TRACTION CONTROL WILL SHOW ON THE DASH BOARD AND THEN THE STEERING WHEEL WILL START TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. MY HUSBAND SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND IT VIOLENTLY SHAKE FOR 20 MINS. AT TIMES WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED IN THE PAST THE CAR WOULD BE ON BUT WE DID NOT EVEN LEAVE THE DRIVE WAY. THE FIRST TIME IT DID IT ME WAS 4 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE AND I HAD MY CHILD IN THE BACK SEAT TAKING HER TO SCHOOL WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY, I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION AND I COULDN'T GET OUT BECAUSE I WAS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE STEERING WHEEL, AND WE ALMOST GOT HIT. EACH TIME (MORE THAN 5 TIMES NOW) WE WERE EITHER STOPPED OR GOING LESS THAN 25 MILES PER HOUR, THE EPS AND TRACTION WILL LIGHT, AND THE STEERING WHEEL WILL SHAKE VIOLENTLY ANYWHERE FROM 5 MINUTES TO 45 MINUTES. THERE WAS A TIME WHEN MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING IN OUR SMALL TOWN WHEN THE EPS LIGHT WAS ON BUT MY HUSBAND HAD NO POWER STEERING. THE STEERING WHEEL DIDN'T SHAKE. *TR
2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.*JS
I WAS INFORMED BY SEVERAL CO-WORKERS THAT THERE WERE RECALLS FOR OUR CAR, THE 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE PROBLEMS THAT ARE AFFECTING MY 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA ARE: EXTERIOR LIGHTING: BRAKE LIGHTS: SWITCHES, BRAKE LIGHT AND STEERING: GEAR BOX: SHAFT SECTOR. THE ONLY RECALL THAT THE HYUNDAI DEALER HONORED WAS FROM CAMPAIGN 123. CAMPAIGN 110 AND 122 WILL NOT BE HONORED DUE TO THE MANUFACTURE DATE OF MY VEHICLE WHICH IS MARCH 28, 2011. IF MY CAR IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS AS THE OTHER 2011 HYUNDAI SONATAS WHY CAN'T MY VEHICLE BE REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL. I FEEL THAT THIS IS UNFAIR TO CONSUMERS OF THE 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DATE. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME TYPE OF REMEDY FOR THIS MATTER!!! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
HAVE REPLACED BRAKE LIGHTS 5 TIMES DUE TO SOMEOME TELLING ME THEY WERE OUT. WAS STOP BY A COP TODAY BECAUSE BOTH BRAKE LIGHTS HE SAID WE'RE OUT. WHY ARE THESE LIGHTS BURNING OUT SO FAST? AUTOMOTIVE GUY SAID PUT SOME GREASE ON BULB THEN PLACE THEM IN. I DID AND THEY STILL WENT OUT? *TR
TL-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT FAILED TO OPERATE AND THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL FIRMLY TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS ALMOST EMPTY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V433000 (BRAKES). HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE. NE
MY CAR WOULD HAVE TROUBLE STARTING, I WOULD TURN ON THE CAR BUT THE ENGINE WOULDN'T START, THE LIGHTS AND RADIO WOULD TURN ON AND NOTHING. AFTER THE STARTER BEING INSTALLED ON 10/22/2014 THE CAR WAS FINE BUT THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN THIS YEAR AND HAD THE STARTER REPLACED AGAIN. THEN IT HAPPENED LATER AGAIN AND FINALLY HAD THE NEUTRAL SAFETY START INHIBITOR SWITCH REPLACED. MY AIRBAG LIGHT TURNS ON AND NOW I HAVE TO REPLACE THE CLOCKSPRING. I HAVE OTHER ISSUES WITH THIS CAR LIKE FOR EXAMPLE MY FRONT DRIVE AXELS BEING DEFORMED WHICH CAUSES A RATTLING NOSE WHEN I TURN WHILE DRIVING. I WOULD HEAR CLICKING NOSES ON THE STEERING COLUMN AND HAD THE STEERING COUPLING REPLACED. SO FAR AS OF 8/12/2016 I HAVE HAD 15 RECALLS AND I HAVE ONE TO DO NEXT WEEK. I'M DRIVING A DEATH TRAP.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING, AT ABOUT 40 MPH, ANOTHER DRIVER FLAG ME DOWN AND ASKED ME TO CHECK MY TAILLIGHT. I PARKED MY CAR ON THE SIDE, AND I NOTICED THAT THE WHOLE TAILLIGHT HAD FALLEN OFF THE CAR. IT WAS JUST HANGING FROM THE WIRES. UPON INSPECTION I NOTICED THAT THE PLASTIC STUDS HOLDING THE TAILLIGHT HAD BROKEN OFF. LOTS OF SMALL PLASTIC PIECES ALL OVER. GLAD I WASN'T ON THE FREEWAY, BECAUSE IT WOULD HAD CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IF IT WOULD HAD FALLEN OFF THE CAR. THE TAILLIGHT SHOWS NO SIGNS OF ANY IMPACT AT ALL IT IS CLEAN. *TR
STEERING COLUMN BUSHING BECOMES FRAYED AND CHIPS/BREAKS CAUSE LOUD POPPING/CLUNKING NOISE GOING OVER UNEVEN PAYMENT AND LOOSE STEERING CONDITIONS. I AM TOLD THIS WOULD ULTIMATELY CAUSE FAILED STEERING ABILITY. MANY REPORTS OF EXACTLY SAME ISSUE ARE BEING POSTED ON HYUNDAI FORUMS. *TR
FUEL GAUGE HAS STOPPED SHOWING THE PROPER AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE CAR. CAR WAS FILLED AT A LOCAL STATION, ENTERED THE ROADWAY, LOW FUEL LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH. FUEL GAUGE HAS NOT WORKED PROPERLY SINCE. BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER, WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BUT IS NOT CONSIDERED A RECALL ITEM. REPAIR WAS QUOTED AT OVER $600 TO REPLACE THE FUEL MODULE. *TR
THE STEERING WHEEL HAS PLAY IN IT AND IT ALSO MAKES A LOUD KNOCK WHEN TURNED FROM SIDE TO SIDE WHEN IN MOTION AND NOT IN MOTION. I SPOKE TO A GUY AT THE DEALERSHIP AT CAPITAL HYUNDAI COLUMBIA SC AND AFTER I TOLD HIM WHAT THE CAR WAS DOING HE TOLD ME IT NEEDED A STEERING COUPLER AND IT WOULD COST AROUND $400 AND THEY DO A LOT OF THIS SERVICE FOR THE PARTICULAR CAR. BUT THE PART ONLY COST $5.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS, AND TAIL LIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY FAILED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK AND THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS LOOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V113000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY STEERING SHAKING AND RATTLING, WAS WAITING FOR MY APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM AS I NOTICED WAS ON A RECALL NHTSA #10V457000 & 10V426000, DEALER STATED THEY WERE COMPLETED 05/ 2010. THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $500 TO FIX THE PROBLEM AGAIN. I WAS IN PROCESS OF TRANSFERING BACK TO FT WORTH. DUE TO LIMETED BUDGET COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM .. SEVERAL DAYS LATER I WAS INVOLVED IN AN INCIDENT WHERE A PERSON HAD CONTACTED MY VEHICLE FROM THE FRONT. I MANAGED TO CAUSE THIS POSSIBLY FATAL FRONT END COLLISION TO BE A GLANCING BLOW. BUT NOT BEFORE HAVING PROBLEMS OPERATING THE VEHICLE'S STEERING CAPABILITY. THE SHAKING AND RATTLING IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHICH THEY (DEALERSHIP) SAID WAS CORRECTED; COME ALSO WITH PLAY IN THE STEERING IT SELF THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED ...LEFT OR RIGHT. DUE TO THIS DELAY THE SECONDS CAUSED CONTACT TO STILL BE MADE WHERE AS IF WAS CORRECTED WITH A ADEQUATE REPLACEMENT PART COULD POSSIBLY BEEN AVOIDED. NOW AM TOLD I HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS TO BE FIXED EVEN THOUGH IS A PRIOR RECAL; THAT IS STILL DEFECTIVE. MIND YOU THE PART IS $500. SO IS THIS A MATTER OF ONCE A RECALL ALWAYS A RECALL. AT $500 A POP. WARANTY IS 6 YRS / 60,000?? (NOT TOTALLY SURE ON THAT?) SO IS MY RESPONSBILITY AFTER THAT? MAY AS WELL SELL. IS IT THE AUTOMOTIVE S INDUSTRY TO HAVE CONSUMERS LEASE INSTEAD OF BUY. ..AND PARTS INDUSTRY AND MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY TO CAPITALIZE OFF OF DEFECTIVE PARTS...BY RESELLING THESE DEFECTICE PARTS OVER AND OVER???????????

GO TO UNLOCK CAR WITH KEY FOB OR PUSH BUTTON ENTRY SWITCH, IT DOES NO WORK, UNLOCK CAR MANUALLY WITH KEY AND THEN TRY TO START THE CAR AND DASH INDICATES KEY NOT DETECTED. THE CAR IS NOT DETECTING MY KEY FOB, WHETHER IN OR OUT OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE TO MANUALLY START THE CAR BY INSERTING FOB INSIDE THE MIDDLE CONSOLE. *TR
STEERING WHEEL DEVELOPED NOISE WITH TURNING AND MORE FREE-PLAY IN STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK CAR TO DEALER WHO REPLACED COUPLING SEAL. ACCORDING TO DEALER, THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM THAT CAN LEAD TO SIGNIFICANT STEERING PROBLEMS. *TR
THE STEERING WHEEL HAS A SLIGHT CATCH WHEN TURNING. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THEY COULD FIX IT BUT IT WAS GOING TO COST ME. I DO A LOT OF HIGHWAY MILES SO THERE SHOULDN'T BE ANY REASON TO HAVE STEERING PROBLEMS AFTER ONLY 3 YEARS. I HAD THE FRONT STABILIZER ARM FIXED TWICE DUE TO NOISE ON THE FRONT END, WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE THEY SAID I RAN OVER SOMETHING, WHICH I DID NOT. THEY DIDN'T FIX RIGHT THE FIRST TIME SO HAD TO PAY AGAIN TO GET THE OTHER SIDE FIXED. *TR
STEERING COLUMN BEGAN MAKING POPPING AND CLICKING SOUNDS. FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL. CALLED HYUNDAI AND THEY SAID PROBLEM WAS FIXED IN 2010. THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED WITHIN THE TIME FRAME OF THE RECALL. WAS TOLD THAT IT COULDN'T BE FIXED UNDER CAMPAIGN OR WARRANTY AS I WAS SECOND OWNER. MY CHILDREN DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AND I AM CONCERNED FOR THEIR SAFETY. DEALER LOOKED AT IT AT MY EXPENSE AND SAID NOTHING WRONG. THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WHEN THE CAR IS STEERED, HITS A BUMP IN THE ROAD, OR EVEN TURNING. LOUD CLICKING SOUNDS LIKE STEERTING COLUMN IS FALLING APART. *TR
WHILE AT A RED LIGHT ON HIGHWAY 45 IN WHISTLER ALABAMA CAR JUST CUT OFF AND WOULD NOT CRANK BACK UP, POLICE HAD TO COME AND STOP TRAFFIC AND PUSH CAR OUT OF THE HIGHWAY SO IT WOULDN'T BE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE IT WAS NEAR THE INTERSTATE EXITS TO HIGHWAY 45. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR STALLED. I COASTED INTO AN EMPTY PARKING LOT AND TURNED IT OFF. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART IT, I HEARD ONE CLICK AND THEN NOTHING. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG, NO WARNING LIGHTS, NO WEIRD NOISES, NOTHING. I HAD THE CAR TOWED THE FOLLOWING MORNING AND WAS TOLD BY THE REPAIR SHOP THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED UP. I FAITHFULLY HAVE MY OIL CHANGED AND THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THE OIL WAS LOW. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA ON A MOUNTAIN ROAD 10/4/2014 WHEN IT STARTED TO MAKE A CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. BEFORE I EVEN HAD THE CHANCE TO PULL OVER ALL OF MY SENSORS WENT OF THE ENGINE COMPLETELY DIED INCLUDING POWER BRAKES AND STEERING. HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS I WAS DRIVING ON A WINDING MOUNTAIN ROAD. DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME I HAVE TO REPLACE MY ENGINE AND BECAUSE I'M THE SECOND OWNER THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY DOESN'T APPLY TO ME. THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RECALLED FOR THIS HUGE MANUFACTURING AND OVERLY DANGEROUS FLAW. *TR
MY 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA LIKE MANY OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS ON HERE HAS HAD CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO A SNAPPED ROD. LIKE MANY OF YOU I HAVE KEPT UP WITH THE REGULAR MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE AND HAVE BEEN SHUT DOWN BY HYUNDAI FOR REPAIR UNDER THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY. THIS PROBLEM IS A SERIOUS PUBLIC SAFETY CONCERN AS IT HAPPENS WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION AND MY QUESTION IS WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR THE NHTSA TO TAKE ACTION AND FULLY INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE AND BRING IT TO RECALL? WITH THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS LISTED ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE IT SEEMS LIKE THEY ARE WAITING FOR INJURY OR EVEN WORSE TO OCCUR BEFORE THIS ISSUE IS TAKEN SERIOUSLY. *TR
I HAVE NOTICED A CLICK OR SLIGHT KNOCK COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEN TURNING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT AT LOW SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY WHEN PARKING. OVER UNEVEN SURFACES THERE IS SHAKING OR SHUTTER IN THE STEERING COLUMN ALSO. THESE CONDITIONS SEEM TO BE WORSENING. I WILL BE SCHEDULING FOR SERVICE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A 4 LANEROADWAY WHEN THE ENGINE STOPPED. I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A GAS STATION AND NOTICED A SMALL AMOUNT OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. HAD IT TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP AND 2 DAYS LATER THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A SEIZED ENGINE AND THAT IT WAS ONLY 1/2 QUART LOW. I FILED A CLAIM WITH MY EXTENDED WARRANTY SERVICE. THEY SENT AN INSPECTOR OUT AND HIS FINDING WERE IT WAS 2-3 QUARTS LOW AND CITED OWNER NEGLECT. WARRANTY SERVICE DENIED THE CLAIM. I USE ROYAL PURPLE SYNTHETIC OIL AND HAVE USED THIS SAME OIL FOR THE PAST 15 YEARS IN ALL MY VEHICLES. I HAD MY OIL CHANGED IN JULY..APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS PRIOR. *TR
I PURCHASED THE 2011 SONATA CERTIFIED USED, PLUS I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I WAS EXITING THE FREEWAY WHEN THE CAR JUST DIED, NO SOUNDS, NO WARNING, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS, NOTHING. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A GAS STATION AND I NOTICED A LITTLE SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I HAD IT TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP AND 2 DAYS LATER THEY CALLED & TOLD ME THE ENGINE SEIZED, BUT THE OIL WAS ONLY ABOUT HALF A QUART LOW. THE DEALERSHIP WOULDN'T HONOR THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY BECAUSE THEY SAID IT'S LIMITED TO 60K MILES (I'M THE 2ND OWNER & MY CAR HAD 66K MILES). I FILED A CLAIM WITH EXTENDED WARRANTY SERVICE AND THEY SENT OUT AN INSPECTOR. HIS FINDING WAS IT WAS 2-3 QUARTS LOW, THERE WAS "SLUDGE AND METAL BITS" IN THE OIL AND WE'D NEED A NEW ENGINE. BECAUSE I COULDN'T PRODUCE THE RECEIPT FROM MY LAST OIL CHANGE, THEY CITED OWNER NEGLECT AND DENIED THE CLAIM. I USED ROYAL PURPLE SYNTHETIC OIL (AND HAVE USED THIS SAME OIL FOR THE PAST 15 YRS IN ALL MY VEHICLES). I CHANGED MY OWN OIL IN JULY, APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS PRIOR. NOTE: THERE WAS NEVER ANY OIL LEAKS OR STAINS ON THE DRIVEWAY, NO LOW OIL/ENGINE LIGHT AT ALL. TO REPLACE THE ENGINE, IT WAS GOING TO COST AROUND $6000.00. I COULDN'T AFFORD THAT, SO I ENDED UP HAVING TO GET ANOTHER CAR. WHICH SUCKS BECAUSE NOW I AM PAYING 2 CAR NOTES, ON 2 CARS, BUT I AM ONLY ABLE TO DRIVE ONE. I DON'T WANT TO MESS MY CREDIT UP BY LETTING IT GO BACK, SO I'M REALLY TRYING TO HOLD ON TO IT AS LONG AS I CAN, BUT I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHEN I'M GOING TO HAVE THE EXTRA $$ TO GET A NEW ENGINE PUT IN.
ON OCTOBER 3, 2014, I HAD MY CAR SERVICED FOR TWO SONATA RECALLS, ONE REGARDING THE SHIFT CABLE AND THE OTHER REGARDING THE BRAKES. THAT SAME AFTERNOON, MY STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON MY DASH. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 4 YEARS AND COULD NOT REMEMBER IT DOING THAT EVER BEFORE. PRESSING THE STABILITY CONTROL BUTTON DID NOTHING TO CHANGE THE LIGHT (IT WOULD NOT TURN OFF). THE NEXT DAY, WHILE PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL, I NOTICED A FAILURE TO ACCELERATE. THIS HAS HAPPENED DOZENS OF TIMES SINCE, AT VARYING SPEEDS, AND WHILE THE CAR WAS BOTH COLD AND WARM. IT ALWAYS LASTS SEVERAL SECONDS AND THEN I CAN ACCELERATE AGAIN. DURING ONE OF THESE EPISODES, I CAN PRESS THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD AND GET NO ACCELERATION. THIS IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY DANGEROUS. UPON VISITING A LOCAL TIRE SHOP TO DETERMINE HOW BAD THE PROBLEM WAS, THE TECHNICIAN REMOVED THE TIRE AND ADVISED ME THAT THERE WERE 5 SEPARATE BUBBLES IN THE TIRE AND IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP & WAS TOLD THE ISSUE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY AND I HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW TIRE FOR $275. TWO DAYS AGO I WAS WALKING AROUND THE CAR AND I'VE NOTICED A BUBBLE ON THE SIDEWALL OF THE LEFT FRONT TIRE NOW. I DRIVE PRIMARILY ON THE HIGHWAY AND KEEP MY TIRES PROPERLY INFLATED AT ALL TIMES. THEY CODED THE CAUSE AS "63557 FALLING APART REPLACE STEERING COUPLER". I SAW TWO OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME ISSUE. ALL 2011 SONATA'S SHOULD BE INSPECTED. *TR
THANKFULLY, MY SITUATION DOESN'T YET INCLUDE ANY TYPE OF ACCIDENT. MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AROUND AUGUST, 2014. I PURCHASED THE CAR USED IN JANUARY OF THAT SAME YEAR FROM A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. IT WAS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD, SO I DIDN'T THINK THE INDICATOR LIGHT WAS ANYTHING SERIOUS, MAYBE JUST A SENSOR. I SERVICED THE CAR ON SEPT. 17, 2014 FOR A DIFFERENT PROBLEM, AND THE TECH NOTED THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON. I DECLINED TO DO REPAIRS OR DIAGNOSTICS BECAUSE I HAD JUST PAID SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS THAT DAY. WHEN I SERVICED THE CAR SEPTEMBER, THE FOLLOWING YEAR (SEP 17, 2015) I REQUESTED THEY CHECK THE AIRBAG. THEY KEPT THE CAR OVERNIGHT, UNABLE TO ESTABLISH THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM -- IN FACT THEY HAD TO CONSULT A HYUNDAI EXPERT OUT-OF-HOUSE. EVENTUALLY THEY TOLD ME THE WHOLE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY NEEDED REPLACEMENT - $1,100. THE PAPERWORK LISTS "AIRBAG B1102 BAT VOLTAGE LOW, B1346 RESISTANCE TOO HIGH, NEEDS NEW AIR BAG ASSY." MY CONCERN IS THAT A CAR ONLY 3 YEARS OLD NEEDS A NEW AIR BAG. UNTIL I'M ABLE TO AFFORD A NEW ONE, MINE STILL DOESN'T WORK. REPRESENTATIVE SHOWED US THE PART AND STATED THAT THE MATERIAL THAT IT WAS MADE OF WAS "TOO SOFT" AND THAT THE PART WOULD FAIL AND LEAVE THE CAR "UNSTEERABLE" DURING OPERATION. WE AUTHORIZED THE REPAIR OF THE STEERING FLEXIBLE COUPLING PART 56315-2K000-FFF A $4.41 PART THAT REQUIRED $270.00 IN LABOR TO REPLACE. THIS REPAIR IS NOT COVERED BY HYUNDAI WARRANTY. A SHORT SEARCH ON THE INTERNET REVEALED THAT MANY OTHER SONATA OWNERS ARE NOTICING THE SAME DEFECT IN THE STEERING. AS OWNER OF THIS CAR WE ARE ABLE TO HAVE THIS REPAIR MADE FOR US AND THE MOTORING PUBLIC'S SAFETY. MY FEAR IS THAT OTHER HYUNDAI SONATA OWNERS WILL IGNORE OR NOT NOTICE THE CLUNK OF THE STEERING WHEELS OPERATION BEFORE THIS PART FAILS TRAGICALLY. *TR

MY CAR WAS BUILD IN MAY 2010 AND FALLS UNDER THE SAFETY RECALL BUT BECAUSE MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL I AM NOT COVERED WHICH IS UNACCEPTABLE AND SHOULD NOT HINDER THE LIFE OF MYSELF OR MY DAUGHTER. I WAS REAR ENDED WHILE AT A STOP BY A LARGE TRUCK THAT WAS GOING 40 MPH. MY AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY, WHICH DIDN'T SURPRISE ME, BUT MY SEATBELT DID NOT PROPERLY ENGAGE. I THEN REMOVED THE KEY, PUT IT BACK IN, AND AGAIN NOTHING. I THEN PULLED KEYS, GOT OUT, LOCKED THE AND THEN UNLOCKED THE CAR AND THEN SUCCESSFULLY GOT THE CAR ON.
