I HAD BEGUN TO ACCELERATE FROM A RED LIGHT. THE CAR IN FRONT BEGAN TO STOP AGAIN. WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT WOULD NOT GO DOWN, WAS NOT STOPPING THE CAR AT ALL. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN AND I HIT A VAN. THE AIRBAG WENT OFF, BUT THE ENGINE REVVED UP, AND THE CAR SHOT FORWARD AGAIN, HITTING THE OTHER VEHICLE AGAIN. I TRIED PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PARK. NOTHING STOPPED IT UNTIL I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF COMPLETELY. I HAVE THE 'NORM' SEATBELT BRUISING, SMASHED MY KNEE ON THE DASH, AND HAVE WHIPLASH AS WELL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 SONATA ON I-95 NORTH IN MD NEAR BALTIMORE. I WAS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AT 8:20AM, WHEN WITH OUT ANY WARNING, MY CAR SHUT OFF . I LOOKED DOWN AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON MY DASH WERE ON. I COASTED TO THE LEFT SHOULDER AND I TRIED TO RESTART IT AND IT WOULDN'T. I WAITED FOR 30- 40 MINUTES IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON THE LEFT SHOULDER OF 95 FOR SOMEONE TO COME AND JUMP START MY CAR. IT STARTED IMMEDIATELY WHEN IT WAS JUMPED, WITH NO PROBLEMS, WITH NO LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING ANY PROBLEMS. I WAS ABOUT 1/4 MILE FROM WORK. ONCE BACK IN TRAFFIC, MY CAR TURNED OFF A SECOND TIME. AGAIN, I WAS ABLE TO GET IT STARTED WITH A JUMP WITH NO PROBLEM. WHEN IT STARTED THE SECOND TIME WE HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE AND DROVE IT 3 BLOCKS TO MY OFFICE. NO DASH WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. I CONTACTED MY DEALER, ANNAPOLIS HYUNDAI AND THEY SAID I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE IT TOWED IN. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI'S ROAD SIDE SERVICE AND THEY TOWED IT AT NO COST TO ME. I WAS ASKED FOR RECEIPTS AND SERVICE INFORMATION IMMEDIATELY BEFORE MY CAR WAS LOOKED AT. AFTER 6 DAYS AND CONTINUAL CALLS, THEY ADVISED I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE. AS MY CAR IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD AND THE ENGINE IS UNDER THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY( IT HAS APPROX. 64,000 MILES ON IT), THEY ADVISED THEY WOULD HAVE TO SEND DOCUMENTS IN TO HYUNDAI AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO APPROVE. MY CAR HAS BEEN THERE FOR 16 DAYS AND I HAVE BEEN REFUSED A LOANER CAR UNTIL HYUNDAI HONORS THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY. MY CAR HAD ORIGINALLY BEEN SCHEDULED FOR SERVICE ON 1/27 AS I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR NOT STARTING ON AT LEAST 3 OCCASIONS AND IT NEEDED TO BE JUMPED STARTED(WITH 2 TIMES BY GEICO). DURING THIS TIME, THERE WAS NEVER ANY INDICATION THERE WAS A PROBLEM AS NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON MY CAR. THIS CAR IS UNSAFE AND SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THE ENGINE. A CAR SHOULD NEVER STOP RUNNING WHILE IT IS IN DRIVE ESPECIALLY IN TRAFFIC. *TR
TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED OF 65 MPH THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE CALIPER LOCKED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED A SECOND TIME ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH IN SNOWY WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE IN THE BRAKE LINES WHEN THE RUBBER WORE PREMATURELY AND PREVENTED THE BRAKE FLUID TO FLOW TO THE CALIPERS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000. RK
WHILE DRIVING ON THE GRAND CENTRAL PARKWAY GOING 50 MPH THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER AND STALLED. THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED DUE TO LOSS OF OIL. THERE HAD BEEN NO OIL WARNING LIGHT. CAR HAD BEEN SERVICED REGULARLY SINCE PURCHASE. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER INFORMED US THAT SHORT BLOCK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED & WORK WAS DONE. WE HAVE TRIED TO FIND AN OIL WARNING LIGHT ON THE A INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND HAVE HAD NO LUCK SO WE ARE NOT CONFIDENT THIS WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN, CREATING ANOTHER UNSAFE SITUATION THE CAR DID NOT FEEL RIGHT WHILE WE DROVE IT. AT ONE POINT, ABOUT A MONTH OR SO LATER, IT STALLED OUT. WE CALLED HYUNDAI FOR A TOW BUT THE CAR EVENTUALLY STARTED. A WEEK LATER THE CAR OVERHEATED AND WE BROUGHT IT TO A SERVICE STATION & CHECKED THE COOLANT. IT WAS LOW & SO WE ADDED COOLANT. WE ALSO CHECKED THE OIL & FOUND IT DOWN BY ONE QUART. (THIS WAS ABOUT 2 THOUSAND MILES AFTER THE SHORT BLOCK WAS REPLACED). CAR CONTINUED TO OVERHEAT IN TRAFFIC. WE TOOK THE CAR TO HYUNDAI FOR SERVICE WHERE THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE FAN WAS NOT WORKING. WE ASKED IF IT WAS NORMAL FOR THE CAR TO STALL WHILE ON THE ROAD IF IT OVERHEATS, & WE'RE TOLD YES IT WAS NORMAL. WE CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. WE HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT AND RECEIVED AN INCIDENT NUMBER BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY RESPONSE FROM CORPORATE. WE DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR OR TRANSPORTING OUR GRANDCHILDREN OR ANYONE ELSE. THE CAR WOULD NOT START AND ALL THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENT LIGHTS CAME ON (EMERGENCY LIGHTS BLINKING, TURN INDICATORS, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, BATTERY LIGHT INDICATOR, ETC.). THE HORN WAS BLARING ALSO AND THE KEY WAS IN MY POCKET. I THOUGHT I HIT THE EMERGENCY BUTTON BY ACCIDENT SO I PULLED OUT THE KEY AND HIT THE BUTTON OFF. IT WOULD NOT STOP. I TRIED STARTING THE CAR, BUT IT WOULD NOT. IT WENT OFF FINALLY. SO, I TRIED STARTING THE CAR AND ALL THE STUFF STARTED AGAIN. SO, I CAME HOME WHILE I COULD. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND DANGEROUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BEGIN TO SHAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE BUSHING IN THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED AND MADE AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE FAILURE RECURRED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
THIS CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A SMARTKEY. RECENTLY IT HAS DEVELOPED A STARTING PROBLEM THAT IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE OUTDOOR TEMP. IT HAS BEEN SERVICED SEVERAL TIMES BY THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE SHIFT INTERLOCK SWITCH AND THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. IT IS BELOW ZERO THIS MORNING (2/21/2015) JUST ONE DAY AFTER THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WAS REPLACED, AND AGAIN THE CAR REFUSES TO START. WHEN THE START BUTTON IS DEPRESSED EVERYTHING LIGHTS UP ON THE DASH BOARD BUT THE ENGINE WILL NOT EVEN TURN OVER, IT IS COMPLETELY DEAD. THE ENGINE IMOBILIZER LIGHT ALSO COMES ON AFTER ATTEMPTING TO MOVE THE SHIFTER AND THE BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DEPRESS! THE CAR WILL BE OUT OF WARRANTY SOON. THIS NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED. THE CAR HAS REFUSED TO START DOZENS OF TIMES WITH THE VERY SAME ISSUES. THE CAR HAS LEFT ME STRANDED (AT HOME TO DATE) NUMEROUS TIMES. WHEN IT WARMS UP OUTDOORS LATER IN THE DAY AND THE TEMP GOES UP TO 25 - 30 DEGREES THE CAR STARTS VIRTUALLY EVERY TIME AND WILL START WITHOUT A PROBLEM FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON THIS WEBSITE AND OTHER WEBSITES AND PUSH BUTTON IGNITION PROBLEMS ARE VERY COMMON ON THIS CAR. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO COME UP WITH A PROPER FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. NUMEROUS PEOPLE REPORT HAVING THE SAME SWITCHES REPLACED AS ON MY CAR THEIR PROBLEMS WERE NOT SOLVED EITHER. IT APPEARS THAT HYUNDAI HAS NEVER BEEN ABLE TO COME UP WITH A PROPER FIX FOR THIS ISSUE OR IT IS JUST TO COSTLY TO IMPLEMENT. THEY HAVE CONTINUALLY SWEPT IT UNDER THE RUG. *TR
I HAVE A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA. MY ENGINE IS REALLY LOUD WHEN STARTING AND WHEN IDLING. WHEN I START MY CAR FROM THE REMOTE START SOMETIMES IT WILL RANDOMLY CUT OFF AFTER 2 MINS AND WILL CUT BACK ON AND CUT OFF AGAIN. THE RECALL FOR THE ENGINE WAS MADE AWARE IN SEPTEMBER 2015 IT'S NOW JANUARY 2016, I KNOW MY ENGINE NEEDS REPLACED AND THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG. EVERY TIME I GET A REGULAR ROUTINE OIL CHANGE I'M TOLD THAT THE OIL IS VERY CHUNKY AND IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE DISTRIBUTING THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE LIKE IT'S SUPPOSED TO. IT'S TAKING THE MANUFACTURER WAY TOO LONG TO FIX THIS ISSUE. THIS RECALL WITH THE ENGINE IS VERY SERIOUS AND I DON'T WANT TO BE INJURED OR DIE FROM THIS RECALL AND WAITING FOR THE MANUFACTURER TO GET THINGS TOGETHER TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I ALSO HAVE A CHILD AND I'M CURRENTLY PREGNANT AND I'M VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I FEEL THAT WE'VE WAITED LONG ENOUGH FOR THE MANUFACTURER TO FIX THIS ISSUE.

FATAL ACCIDENT, LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE HITTING A TREE HEAD ON. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE. STEERING COLUMN AIR BAG AND PASSENGER AIR BAGS INTACT. NOTIFIED HYUNDAI DEALER WHERE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED WITH 49995 MILES, 2ND OWNER NO PREVIOUS INCIDENTS TO THE VEHICLE , HAD APPROX 80000 MILES AT TIME OF CRASH. *TR
IN DECEMBER, AS I WAS WALKING TO MY CAR IN THE MORNING TO GO TO WORK, I NOTICED MY BRAKE LIGHT HANGING OUT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR. THE WHOLE LIGHTING FIXTURE WAS REMOVED FROM THE PLASTIC AND NOT CONNECTED TO THE HINGES ANYMORE. I COULDN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT AT THE TIME SO I RIGGED IT SO IT WOULD STAY IN PLACE TEMPORARILY. ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER, THE LEFT SIDE DID THE SAME THING. THE ENTIRE LAMP LIGHT WAS HANGING OUT OF THE SOCKETS AGAIN! I BECAME ENRAGED BECAUSE BOTH TIMES THIS HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID IT WAS VANDALISM AND SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FULL PRICE FOR BOTH LIGHTS. AFTER I DID SOME RESEARCH, I FOUND LOTS AND LOTS OF POSTS WITH THE SAME THING OCCURRING TO THEM. THIS IS NOT A COINCIDENCE! THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL FOR THIS AS THIS IS NOT SAFE. I AM SCARED TO WASH MY CAR DUE TO THE ELECTRICAL WIRES THAT MAY BE GET SHORTED. I AM GOING TO TRY MY BEST TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS IN MANY PLATFORMS AS I CAN UNTIL THIS IS DEEMED FAIR AND ADDRESSED BY THE PROPER AUTHORITIES. ON DECEMBER 10, 2013 I WAS GETTING INTO MY CAR AND WHEN I PUT THE KEYS INTO IGNITION AND TURNED THE CAR ON THE EPS LIGHT CAME ON, SO I THEN WENT INTO THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT TO GET THE SONATA BOOK OUT TO SEE WHAT THAT MEANS THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I WAS SO SCARED THAT THE CAR WAS GOING TO BLOW, I TURNED THE CAR OFF, AND TOOK THE KEYS OUT TO SEE IF IT WOULD STOP, BUT IT DIDN'T, IT WAS STILL SHAKING. I THEN HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED TO PORTER HYUNDAI. THEY THEN RECALIBRATED THE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR AND CLEARED THE CODE. THEN ON SUNDAY DECEMBER 29, 2013 MY SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND WHILE HE WAS DRIVING THE EPS LIGHT CAME ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY AGAIN WHILE HE WAS DRIVING, IT WAS VERY HARD FOR HIM TO GET CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. HE TRIED TURNING THE CAR OFF BUT THE WHEEL WAS STILL SHAKING. SO AFTER I HAD TO TAKE IT BACK DOWN TO PORTER HYUNDAI TODAY, THEY HAVE YET TO GET BACK WITH ME ABOUT THE MATTER. *TR
I AM REPORTING A THIRD INCIDENT THAT OCCURRED AFTER THE DATE OF THE EARLIER TWO INCIDENTS I PREVIOUSLY REPORTED IN MY EARLIER COMPLAINTS. AFTER THE PREVIOUS INCIDENT, HYUNDAI BURLINGAME (1025 ROLLINS ROAD, BURLINGAME, CA 94010), INSTALLED A NEW ENGINE AND INSTALLED A NEW FUEL INTAKE VALVE. ON OCTOBER 19, 2013, THE SECOND REPAIR WORK WAS COMPLETED AND I PICKED UP THE CAR. ON DECEMBER 4, 2013, I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON US 101, NORTHBOUND TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH WHEN THE CAR BEGAN TO MAKE LOUD CLANGING NOISES AND VIOLENTLY SHAKE AND SHUDDER AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY JUST AS THE CAR AGAIN EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. AS THE ENGINE FAILED, THE POWER TO THE STEERING WENT OUT AND THIS MADE THE CAR DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO HYUNDAI BURLINGAM AND IS AWAITING REPAIR. *TR
I HAVE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL ISSUES RELATED TO THE SONATA WITHIN THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS STARTING IN DECEMBER, 2013. * SEVERAL OF THE SERVICE INDICATORS HAVE LIGHTED UP ON THE DASHBOARD THAT HAVE NEVER BEHAVED THIS WAY BEFORE. * DOORS WILL NOT LOCK UNLESS I HAVE MY KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THE ENGINE TURNED ON. REMOTE SWITCH DOES NOT FUNCTION AT ALL. * THE FRONT LOW-BEAM LIGHTS DO NOT FUNCTION. * THE CLOCK ON THE DASHBOARD DOES NOT FUNCTION. * INTERNAL DOME LIGHTS DO NOT FUNCTION AT ALL ON ANY SWITCH. * THE ESC LIGHT IS MALFUNCTIONING IS APPEARS. COMES ON FOR NO REASON AND STAYS ON. * SEVERAL TIMES IT HAS BEEN HARD TO GET THE CAR INTO "D" DRIVE AND THEN TO GET OUT OF "D" AND BACK INTO PARK. * ENGINE MAKES WEIRD NOISES, ROARING, AND CLINKING THAT IT HAS NEVER MADE BEFORE. * OVERALL I AM HAPPY WITH THIS VEHICLE UP UNTIL THESE ISSUES HAPPENED AND THEY SEEM TO ALL HAPPEN AT THIS PARTICULAR TIME. WITHIN THE LAST THREE MONTHS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 65MPH ON HIGHWAY, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF ACCELERATION. IT WAS AS IF I HAD LET GO OF THE GAS PEDAL. OF COURSE THE PEDAL WAS AT THE SAME POSITION AND DID NOT CHANGE. I LET GO OF THE PEDAL AND REPRESSED IT AND NOTICED THAT I GOT MY POWER BACK. IT DOES THIS INTERMITTENTLY FOR THE LAST TWO MONTHS.NO CODE ERRORS APPEARING ON DASH OR OBD READING. WILL HAPPEN AT ANY GIVEN SPEED. OTHER ISSUE IS THE DRIVER SIDE BREAK LIGHT WILL WORK FOR A FEW WEEKS AND THEN BURN OUT, IN WHICH IT WILL LEAVE THE REMAINING CENTER AND PASSENGER BRAKE LIGHT PERMANENTLY ON WHILE THE HEADLIGHTS ARE TURNED ON. SO IT APPEARS THAT I AM BREAKING BUT I AM NOT. ONLY TEMPORARY FIX IS TO REMOVE THE LEFT BULB FROM ITS SOCKET. *TR
HYUNDAI SONATA 2011 PUSH BUTTON START. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. YESTERDAY I WENT INTO MY CAR AND PROCEEDED TO START MY CAR. I HAD TO PUSH THE START BUTTON THREE TIMES BEFORE IT ACTUALLY STARTED UP. THIS HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN 2 HOURS. 5 DAYS PRIOR MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP FOR THE RECALL ON THE STOP LAMP SWITCH. AN EXISTING RECALL (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V113000) INDICATES THAT FOR THE 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA THE STOP LAMP SWITCH MAY NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY. THEY, THE DEALERSHIP,PERFORMED THE SERVICE AND REPLACED THE STOPLAMP SWITCH. AS RESULT MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT SWITCH POINT CONTACT WITH THE PUSH-BUTTON START. THIS IS CRAZY. *TR
A WELD HOLDING THE FRONT SUBFRAME ASSEMBLY TO THE MAIN FRAME FAILED, ALLOWING THE SUBFRAME TO SEPARATE FROM THE FRAME. THIS STRESS CAUSED THE SWAY BAR LINK END TO BREAK, CAUSING REDUCED CORNERING STABILITY, TRACTION, AND A LOUD THUMPING SOUND WHEN THE CAR EXPERIENCES WEIGHT SHIFTS TO THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL. THE SERVICING DEALER INFORMS ME THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION. *TR
ON THANKSGIVING EVENING NOVEMBER 28, 2013 @ 7:30 PM, MY 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA THAT I PURCHASED NEW, CAUGHT FIRE ON I 95 WHILE DRIVING IT. THE CAR HAS ONLY 30,350 MILES AND IS PROPERLY MAINTAINED AND GARAGE KEPT. THE VEHICLE HAD THE OIL AND FILTER REPLACED 5 DAYS EARLIER AND THERE ARE NO SIGNS OF ANY FLUIDS LEAKING IN THE GARAGE. I RAISED THE HOOD, SMOKE POURED OUT AND I COULD SEE SMALL FLAMES UNDER THE ENGINE. MINUTES LATER THE FLAMES WERE 20 FEET HIGH AND THE ENTIRE CAR BURNED UNTIL FIRE TRUCKS AND POLICE ARRIVED ON THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE IS A TOTAL LOSS. *TR
NO OIL IN THE ENGINE. NO INDICATION OF OIL LEAKAGE. NO LOW OIL PRESSURE OR LOW OIL LIGHT INDICATING THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH LOW OIL. THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME I NEED A NEW ENGINE. THE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR UNTIL THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED FUNCTIONING. THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS AUTOMOBILE. I'VE SEEN THE SAME TYPE OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. NOV. 21, 1013 EXTERIOR LIGHTING TAIL LIGHT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2011 HYUNDAI SONATA (APPROX 28,000 MILES). I WALKED OUT TO MY PARKED CAR AND NOTICED THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR TAIL LIGHT WAS HANGING BY SOME WIRES. I HAD PASSENGERS IN THE CAR AND THERE WAS NO IMPACT , ACCIDENT, OR ANYTHING ELSE TO CAUSE THE TAIL LIGHT TO POP OFF AND HANG BY SOME THREADS. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I COULD SEE THAT THE PLASTIC STUDS WERE BROKE AND THE METAL STUD WAS DETACHED OR NEVER ATTACHED. THE FOLLOWING DAY I TOOK IT TO THE LAGUNA NIGUEL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED IT FROM. ONE THE SERVICE ADVISORS ,346, CAME OUT AND LOOKED AT THE TAIL LIGHT. .HE SAW PLASTIC PIECES AROUND THE SCREWS THAT WERE CRACKED AND BROKEN OFF WHICH CAUSED THE TAIL LIGHT TO DISLODGE AND FALL OFF. HE SAID THAT I WAS FAULT AND HE WROTE ME AN ESTIMATE FOR $248.00. I AM OBVIOUSLY NOT AT FAULT. THE DEALERSHIP TAPED THE TAIL LIGHT ONTO THE BODY FRAME. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT THE TAIL LIGHT DID NOT FALL OFF ,I DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, IT WAS RAINING, AND THAT I WAS NOT PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE. I PHONED HYUNDAI TO FILE A CASE. I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP ON 11/28/13. I WAS TOLD TO BRING THE CAR IN SO THAT THE SERVICE MANGER, [XXX] COULD LOOK AT THE CAR (VERY IN CONVENIENT, THE CAR HAD BEEN AT THEIR DEALERSHIP 3 DAYS PRIOR FOR SEVERAL HOURS WHILE THEY SERVICED 3 MORE RECALLS FOR THIS VEHICLE). [XXX] BASICALLY DID NOTHING EXCEPT WALK OUT TO THE CAR. HE DID NOT TAKE THE TAPE OFF TO INSPECT THE PROBLEM. HE TOLD ME THAT HE HAD BEEN TOUCH WITH HYUNDAI. MY 2011 SONATA WAS PURCHASE BRAND NEW. AFTER JUST HAVING THE VEHICLE 2 1/2 YEARS I NOTICED THAT I HAD ALREADY ACCUMULATED 48000 MILES. I HAVE NOT WORKED SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE AND I HAVE NOT TRAVELED IN THE VEHICLE. THE FURTHEST ONE WAY THAT I MAY GO IS 10 MILES TO SHOP. I ONLY DRIVE THE CAR 15 DAYS EACH MONTH. I HAVE NOW HAD MY CAR 3 YRS AND 4 MONTHS AND I ALREADY HAVE 69,000 MILES ON IT. WHICH MEANS THAT BETWEEN NOVEMBER 2013 AND TODAY, I HAVE PUT 21000 MILES ON THE CAR. THAT IS FAR FROM RIGHT. I WAS TOLD AT THE TIME THAT IT WASN'T THE STARTER,IT WAS THE STARTER LEVER. THE EVENING OF 11/11/2013 THE CAR WOULDN'T START ON THE FIRST TRY , BUT DID AFTER THE SECOND. WHILE DRIVING I NOTICED A KNOCKING NOISE. I TRIED ADDING OIL AND THE PROBLEM WORSENED. ONE DAY WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR DIED COMPLETELY. IT WAS TOWED TO A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. THEY IDENTIFIED A PROBLEM TO BE A ROD BEARINGS FAILURE, BUT REFUSED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE BANK WHO HELD THE LOAN SENT IT TO AUCTION. AFTERWARDS I STILL PAID OVER $9000 TO PAY OFF THE LOAN.
PUSH TO START DOES START WHEN IT'S COLD OUTSIDE. I HAVE TO UNLOCK THE CAR MANUALLY SINCE THE CAR WON'T EVEN OPEN WITH THE REMOTE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OCCURRENCES WHERE IT FEELS AS IF MY CAR IS GOING TO STALL. I ATTEMPTED TO START MY CAR THIS MORNING WHERE IT FAILED TO RESPOND. UPON APPROACHING VEHICLE, COMPLAINTANT NOTICED THAT THE LEFT REAR BRAKE LIGHT HOUSING (DRIVER'S SIDE) WAS DETACHED, AND STICKING OUT ABOUT 1 INCH FROM THE VEHICLE. COMPLAINTANT CAREFULLY SLID THE HOUSING BACK INTO ITS CAVITY, WHERE IT STAYED. COMPLAINTANT THEN DEPARTED. ABOUT 3 DAYS LATER, COMPLAINTANT NOTICED THAT THE HOUSING WAS AGAIN DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE, AND AGAIN SLID IT BACK INTO PLACE. OVER TIME, THE COMPLAINTANT REPEATED RETURNING THE HOUSING INTO THE CAVITY THREE (3) ADDITIONAL TIMES. WHEN THE COMPLAINTANT WAS CONFRONTED WITH A 5TH EVENT OF THE HOUSING DETACHING FROM THE VEHICLE, COMPLAINTANT SHINED A FLASHLIGHT DOWN INTO THE CAVITY, AND SAW THAT THE HOUSING MOUNTING SOCKETS WERE FRACTURED/SHATTERED, AND NONE OF THE SEVERAL MOUNTING STUDS/BOLTS WERE ATTACHED. BUT, THE STUDS/BOLTS WERE STILL ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE SHELL. THE ONLY THING HOLDING THE HOUSING ASSEMBLY ONTO THE CAR, WERE THE WIRES TO THE BRAKE LIGHT, BACK-UP LIGHT, AND TURN SIGNAL LIGHT. NO SURFACE SCRATCHES, NOR BODY DAMAGE EXPERIENCED. AFTER INSPECTING THE DEFECTIVE HOUSING, COMPLAINTANT SURMISED THAT HYUNDAI TAIL LIGHT HOUSING IS MADE OF HARD, BRITTLE PLASTIC, WHICH SHATTERS WHEN OVERLY TIGHTENED AT FACTORY, OR DUE TO THE VIBRATION OF THIS OVERLY HARD RIDING VEHICLE. ADDITIONALLY, COMPLAINTANT NOTICED WHEN VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW, THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE TAIL LIGHT WAS NOT FLUSH WITH THE REAR TRUNK GATE, AND WAS EXTENDED OUTWARD ABOUT 1/4 INCH. THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY ON THE RIGHT/PASSENGER SIDE WAS FLUSH WITH THE TRUNK GATE, AND HAS NOT PRODUCED A SIMILAR ISSUE, YET. COMPLAINTANT SECURED HOUSING TO THE VEHICLE CAVITY BY USING DUCT TAPE. FOR THE LAST 2.2 YEARS MY SONATA LIMITED HAS NOT KEPT A STABLE COOLANT LEVEL. WE FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM WHEN ON A TRIP IN ARIZONA WHEN WE CHECKED THE OIL JUST TO BE SAFE. I WAS ABOUT 1K FROM NEEDING AN OIL CHANGE. WE ADDED 50/50 COOLANT AND DROVE HOME AND IMMEDIATELY MADE AN APPT WITH THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T FIND A PROBLEM AND SENT ME AWAY. THIS ISSUE CONTINUED, COOLANT WOULD BE LOW OR GONE BETWEEN OIL CHANGES (3K MILES). I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR BACK AT LEAST 4 TIMES AND ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE "FIXED" A COUPLE OF POTENTIAL ISSUES, THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. I HAVE LIVED IN EXTREMELY WARM CLIMATES ALL OF MY LIFE AND I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR WHERE THE COOLANT SEEMED TO VANISH FOR NO REASON AND NOT LEAVE A TRACE. I WAS TRAVELING TO RETURN MY VEHICLE TO SOUTHERN STATES HYUNDAI ON STATE HIGHWAY 70 IN DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA WHEN SUDDENLY, AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING, MY VEHICLE EXPLODED. AT THE TIME OF THE EXPLOSION, I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 50 M.P.H. NOT ABLE TO SEE THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD AND UNABLE TO BREATH BECAUSE OF THE SMOKE, I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND JUMPED FROM THE CAR.
I AM REPORTING A SECOND INCIDENT THAT OCCURRED AFTER THE DATE OF THE FIRST INCIDENT I PREVIOUSLY REPORTED IN MY EARLIER COMPLAINT. I HAD THE CAR TAKEN FOR REPAIR TO THE HYUNDAI LICENSED DEALER AND AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SERVICE CENTER OPERATED BY HYUNDAI BURLINGAME (1025 ROLLINS ROAD, BURLINGAME, CA 94010). THE REPAIR CENTER EXPLAINED THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED AND SO WOULD THE FUEL INTAKE VALVE. A NEW ENGINE AND INTAKE VALVE WERE INSTALLED IN THE CAR. ON 10/2/2013, THE REPAIR WORK WAS COMPLETED AND MY SPOUSE PICKED UP THE CAR AND RETURNED TO OUR RESIDENCE. ON 10/3/2013, MY SPOUSE WAS DRIVING THE REPAIRED CAR TO WORK DURING THE MORNING COMMUTE ON SOUTHBOUND I-280 IN THE BAY AREA WHEN THE CAR BEGAN TO MAKE LOUD CLANGING NOISES AND VIOLENTLY SHAKE AND SHUDDER. MY SPOUSE WAS ABLE TO PULL OF THE HIGHWAY JUST AS THE CAR AGAIN EXPERIENCED CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE AND THE ENGINE BEGAN RELEASING VERY HEAVY DARK SMOKE. AS THE ENGINE FAILED, THE POWER TO THE STEERING WENT OUT AND THIS MADE THE CAR DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST AUTHORIZED HYUNDAI DEALER AND SERVICE REPAIR CENTER, STEVENS CREEK HYUNDAI (4425 STEVEN CREEK BLVD., SANTA CLARA, CA 95051). STEVENS CREEK HYUNDAI OPENED THE HOOD OF THE CAR AND EXAMINED THE ENGINE. STEVEN CREEK HYUNDAI TOLD MY SPOUSE THERE WAS A HIGH PRESSURE GASOLINE LEAK AND GASOLINE HAD BEEN SPURTING ON THE HOT ENGINE AND ALSO THAT THERE WAS SOME SORT OF CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BUSHING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V457000 (STEERING). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
THE TAIL AND BRAKE LIGHTS ARE CONSTANTLY BURNING UP. IT STARTED 3 YEARS AGO AND THE ISSUE WAS ONCE IN AWHILE. BUT THIS YEAR IT SEEMS THAT I HAVE TO PURCHASE BULBS TWICE A MONTH AND IS EITHER THE PASSENGER OR DRIVER SIDE.
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 10MPH I HEARD A RATTLE FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. I SUSPECTED IT WAS SUSPENSION RELATED BUT THEN NOTICED THERE WAS SOME PLAY IN THE STEERING. TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT AND RIGHT JUST SLIGHTLY CAUSES THE SOUND TO OCCUR. ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE I FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR STEERING ISSUES FOR MY YEAR AND MODEL CAR. I TOOK IT TO KEY HYUNDAI IN JACKSONVILLE AND THEY VERIFIED THE STEERING COLUMN AND INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WERE THE SOURCE. MY CAR IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH IT HAS THE EXACT ISSUE. THE DEALER WANTS $1310.75 TO REPAIR MY 2 YEAR OLD CAR. *TR
LAST NIGHT, I WAS TOLD, I HAD LEFT A DOME LIGHT ON. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TRYING TO GET IT OFF. THOUGHT I HAD IT OFF, LOCKED CAR ALL LIGHTS WERE OFF WHEN I LEFT IT. COME OUT THIS MORNING TO HEAD TO WORK AND IT WOULD NOT START. THIS IS NOT MY FIRST INCIDENT. IF I LEAVE THE KEYS IN THE CAR IT KILLS IT? I USE TO DO THIS WITH MY BMW AND NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. WHY DOES IT SUCK THE LIFE OUT OF MY BATTERY? THIS MORNING, THO I DONT UNDERSTAND. I HAD ALL THE LIGHTS OFF,,,I THOUGHT. DO NOT KNOW WHAT DRAINED IT. IS THE BATTERY A CHEAP BATTERY? DO I NEED TO CHANGE IT OUT? ITS JUST A 2011, THOUGHT SHOULD LAST LONGER. ANY OTHER ISSUES WITH DEAD BATTERY?
MY SPOUSE WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 280 SOUTHBOUND IN THE BAY AREA DURING THE MORNING COMMUTE WHEN AN ENGINE ROD CAME LOOSE AND PUNCTURED A WHOLE IN THE ENGINE CAUSING CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. THE ENGINE FAILURE LED TO LOSS OF POWER TO THE STEERING AND BRAKES AND THE CAR COASTED OFF THE INTERSTATE EXIT RAMP AND EVENTUALLY CAME TO A STOP AFTER THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ENGAGED. THE CAR HAS CONSISTENTLY RECEIVED REGULAR MAINTENANCE FROM THE LOCAL AUTHORIZED HYUNDAI DEALER AND CAR SERVICE PROVIDER. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING BEFORE THE ENGINE FLEW APART. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS INCIDENT THAT COULD HAVE LED TO THE DEATH OF THE DRIVER, ANY PASSENGERS, AND OTHER DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS OF NEARBY CARS. *JS
THE TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE SENSOR (AND/OR ASSOCIATED WIRELESS HARNESS) FAILED. WE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO TWO 2011 HYUNDAI SONATAS IN A 4-WEEK SPAN (THIS ONE A 6-CYLINDER, THE OTHER A 4-CYLINDER WITH 15,500 MILES ON IT). THAT CAUGHT OUR ATTENTION, PROMPTED US TO REPORT IT. THIS ONE MIMICKED A HESITATE & SURGE. THE OTHER ONE DID THAT, THEN BECAME UNDRIVABLE. DEALERS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY IN BOTH CASES. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE HAD BECOME ROUGH TO MANEUVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,142.
MY CAR WAS JUST SERVICED FOR EXCESSIVE NOISE OCCURRING WHEN I WOULD MAKE TURNS AS IF THE CAR COULD NOT GRIP THE ROAD. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEAL AS WAS TOLD THE ALIGNMENT MUST BE OFF, ONLY TO FIND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL THAT I WAS NEVER TOLD OF. THE DEALER REPLACED THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS ON THE CAR AND A NEW ALIGNMENT PART THEIR "TP3 RECALL" BUT WHEN DRIVING HOME THE CAR DID NOT MAKE NOISES WHEN MAKING THE TURNS ON THE ON/OFF RAMPS BUT RATHER WHEN DRIVING STRAIGHT AND/OR WHEN CHANGING LANES. DEALER DUE TO BEING A SUNDAY AND SERVICE DEPARTMENT BEING CLOSED AS ME TO CALL THEM BACK. THIS WILL BE THE 3RD TIME I HAVE HAD TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR THE SAME ISSUE WITH EACH TIME THE STEERING COLUMN BEING LOOSE AND A NATURAL PULL TO THE DRIVER SIDE. *TR
THE AUTO ON SEVERAL, SPORADIC OCCASIONS HAD AN ACCELERATION PROBLEM, WHILE SITTING STILL IN TRAFFIC. WHILE SITTING STILL IN TRAFFIC, THE RPMS WOULD START TO INCREASE, GOING TO 6000 RPMS BEFORE I GEARED IT BACK DOWN AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. I TOOK IT TOO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THEY KEPT IT COUPLE OF DAYS EACH TIME, THEY TOLD ME, THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG, AND GO AHEAD AND DRIVE IT, IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN, BRING IT BACK, SENDING ME AWAY IN A UNSAFE VEHICLE. THE LAST TIME, DATE MENTIONED ABOVE, A SERVICE TECHNICIAN TEST DROVE MY CAR, THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM OCCURRED, AND HE TOTALED OUT MY VEHICLE. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED UNTIL 2 DAYS LATER THAT MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN A ACCIDENT. I WAS TOLD, IT HAPPENED THE NIGHT BEFORE, I WAS NOTIFIED ON SEPT 13, 2013, THAT WOULD HAVE THE ACCIDENT OCCURRING ON SEPT.12,2013, WHEN IN FACT IT OCCURRED ON SEPT. 11, 2013. I HAVE SEARCHED AND FOUND ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THAT THIS VEHICLE, DID INDEED, HAVE ACCELERATION PROBLEMS, WHICH THE DEALER HAD INFORMED ME, HAD NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. THE VEHICLE, SHOULD HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED AND THE PROBLEM FIXED, THE FIRST TIME, INSTEAD OF THE DEALERSHIP, SENDING ME AWAY EACH TIME IN A UNSAFE VEHICLE. VERY UNETHICAL OF THE DEALER, FOR TELLING LIES ABOUT THE CAR,AND, THE CORRECT DATE THE INCIDENT OCCURRED, NOT NOTIFYING ME FOR 2 DAYS, THAT IT OCCURRED, AND.NOT FIXING THE PROBLEM, AS SHOULD HAVE BEEN EXPECTED OF THEM, THE FIRST TIME IT OCCURRED, AND SENDING ME AWAY EACH TIME IN A UNSAFE VEHICLE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO ADJUSTED THE HEADLAMPS HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19,000. ..UPDATED 12-26-13 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE LIGHTS WERE ADJUSTED AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE, WHICH HELPED THE LIGHTING WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT.
