BRAKE LIGHTS REMAIN ON, EVEN AFTER VEHICLE IS PARKED AND KEY IS REMOVED, DRAINING THE BATTERY. BRAKE LIGHTS REMAIN ON THROUGHOUT NORMAL OPERATION OF VEHICLE AND ONLY EXTINGUISH WHEN THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL IS REMOVED FROM BATTERY. WHEN POWER IS RE-APPLIED, THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE LIT- EVEN WITH NO KEY ON THE IGNITION. HYUNDAI BELIEVES THE BRAKE PEDAL STOPPER PAD MATERIAL CAN DETERIORATE, WHICH ALLOWS THE STOP LIGHT SWITCH PLUNGER TO REMAIN EXTENDED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED BY THE DRIVER. THEY RECALLED MODEL YEARS 2011-2012, BUT THE DEFECT PERSISTS IN MODEL YEARS FAR BEYOND THIS- PAST THE 2014 MODEL SONATA THAT I HAVE DISCOVERED.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA ON THE FREEWAY AND NO LIGHT CAME ON AND WHEN I REFER TO LIGHTS I MEAN(CHECK ENGINE , SERVICE NEEDED SOON OR THE OIL CHANGE SOON) NONE OF THOSE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR SENT A SIGNAL TO PULL OVER AND TURN OFF THE CAR I PULLED OVER AND STOPPED THE CAR THE CAR WON'T TURN ON. CAR MAX DIDN'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS AN OIL LEAK AND WENT I TOOK IT TO HYUNDAI THEY SAID THE O RING TO THE OIL COOLER WAS LOSE AND THAT COULDN'T BE CAUSE BY WEAR AND TEAR THAT THE PART WASN'T PUT ON RIGHT AND IT CAUSE THE OIL TO LEAK AND MY ENGINE TO SEIZE. THE REPAIR IS $10,000 AND THE PRICE FOR THE CAR WAS $12,000.
MY CAR BURNS BULBS LIKE CRAZY. WHEN I WENT TO CHANGE MY TAIL LIGHT, I NOTICED THAT IT HAD COUGHT ON FIRE. IVE PUT 6 HEADLIGHT BULBS BOTH HIGH AND LOW BEEMS IN MY CAR IN THE LADT 2 YRS.. AND CHANGED MY TAIL LIGHT 2 TIMES. TAIL LIGHT HAD CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNED. NOT COOL..
ON NOVEMBER 15, 2020 MY 2013 HYUNDAI SONTA JUST QUIT ON ME WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE IN GEORGIA. I GOT IT TOWED TO SUPERIOR HYUNDAI IN ANNISTON, AL AND THAT'S WHERE THEY TOLD ME I HAD A OPEN RECALL ON MY ENGINE AND THAT'S WHAT MADE MY CAR QUIT ON ME AND I WAS GONNA NEED A NEW ENGINE, BUT SINCE HAVING A SALVAGE TITLE THEY HAD TO SEND IT UP TO THE WARRANTY DEPARTMENT, 2 WEEKS LATER THEY COME BACK AND SAID MY CLAIM WAS DENIED BC OF HAVING A SALVAGE TITLE. I FEEL I HAVE DONE MY PART BY KEEPING THE UP KEEP OF MY CAR UP SO SOMETHING LIKE THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN, BUT SOMETHING THAT WAS OUT OF MY HANDS HAPPEN I HAVE TO BUY A WHOLE NEW ENGINE ALL BC OF WHAT MY TITLE SAYS. I CAN UNDERSTAND IF I DIDN'T DO THE UP KEEP OF MY CAR BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY IT SHOULDN'T FALL ON ME ALL BC OF WHAT MY TITLE SAYS. I HAVE OWED THAT CAR SINCE APIRL 2016 AND HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS TIL NOW ON THIS CAR.
MY AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON.
When using the turn signal the headlights turn off. A search of the internet shows this is a common occurrence for the car as multiple people have posted on boards that this is the result of the multifunction switch. This is a highly dangerous situation for both the driver and/or other cars on the road as if you attempt to signal a turn or try to place the high beams on you will lose loss of sight due to the headlights shutting off. This should be listed as a recall item for the car.
HYBRID DRIVE SYSTEM ALARMED AND THEN FAILED ON FREEWAY CAUSING CAR TO ROLL TO STOP.. 12V SYSTEM FAILED W/NO EMERGENCY FLASHERS, LIGHTS OR 12 VOLT ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS. ALL NON-OPERATIVE.
WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION, THE WARNING SIGN CAME ON THE DISPLAY WITH THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE: HYBRID SYSTEM FAILURE. STOP. DO NOT DRIVE. LESS THAN 10 SECONDS AFTER THE WARNING, THE CAR LOST POWER AND STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH TIME TO PULL THE CAR TO SAFETY.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHING, VEHICLE WILL NOT GO OVER 20 MILES PER HOUR AND JUMPS. STARTED SUDDENLY WHEN IN MOTION ON ROAD.

THERE WERE NO REPORTED INJURIES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT LOT. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V746000 (ENGINE ) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE RECALL REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DEEMED THE VEHICLE A TOTAL LOSS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.

MY CAR'S ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE DUE TO A HYUNDAI FUEL LINE/ ENGINE RECALL
ANYTIME CAR IS RUNNING STATIONARY OR IN MOTION ITS A THICK WHITE/GRAY SMOKE COMING FROM MY EXOST ENGINE RUMBLES AS WELL.
FRONT HEAD LIGHTS KEEP BLOWING OUT AS WELL AS BACKLIGHTS. THE WIRING HAS GOTTEN SO HOT THAT IT HAS STARTED TO MELT THE HOUSING THAT HOLDS THE TAIL LIGHTS SO THEY KEEP BLOWING OUT.

AUGUST 11 2020 DEALER SHIP TOLD US THEY CHANGE THE RECALL FOR 189 Y FUEL TUBE. TODAY 10/26/20 NOTICE STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE WITHIN THE CAR. CHECK THE INSIDE THE HOOD FOUND SATURATED FOAM COVER WITH FUEL THAT CAN EASILY IGNITE.
I WAS DRIVING AT A NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEED OF 60 MILES PER HOUR ON A SMOOTH ROAD AND FOLLOWING ANOTHER CAR APPROXIMATELY 1/4 MILE AHEAD WITH NOTHING OVERHEAD WHEN MY SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED. I HAD THE SUNSHADE CLOSED AT THE TIME.
I WAS INVOLVED IN A ACCIDENT LAST WEEK , THIS OTHER VEHICLE HIT ME FROM BEHIND AT A SPEED OF 40 MPH APPROXIMATELY. NOW THE STRANGE THING WAS THAT AT THE IMPACT THE OTHER VEHICLE'S AIR BAGS DEPLOYED MINE DID NOT BUT I DID SEE IN MY DASHBOARD THE LIGHT OF THE AIR BAG AS IF IT WAS DEPLOYED IN MY CAR...SO I'M THINKING THAT IT'S DEFECTIVE.

THE AIRBAG LIGHT STARTED COMING ON AND OFF FOR A WHILE UNTIL THE LIGHT STAYED ON ALL THE TIME. SO, IF I WAS TO GET IN A CAR ACCIDENT THE AIRBAGS WOULDNT WORK DUE TO THE SENSOR NOT WORKING PROPERLY. HYUNDAI WOULDN'T FIX IT BECAUSE ITS NOT A RECALL, YET IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN SINCE IT INVOLVES AIRBAGS. I AM SURE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 25,000.
I HAVE A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. MY SONATA AFTER DRIVING ABOUT AN HOUR OR SO LOOSES ACCELERATION POWER. WHEN I COME TO A STOP AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN IT DOES NOT WANT TO ACCELERATE. SOMETIMES THE RPMS WILL PEAK OUT IF I DEPRESS THE ACCELERATION PEDAL TO THE FLOOR BUT THE VEHICLE WILL STILL ONLY CRAWL OR MOVE VERY SLOWLY 2-3MPH. IT IS SO BAD THAT SAY IF I'M ON AN INCLINE HEADED UPWARDS THE VEHICLE WILL ROLL BACKWARDS AS I'M TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND I HAVE TO ROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART AND TRY AGAIN UNTIL I CAN GET BACK TO THE HILL AND OVER IT AND SOMETIMES I HAVE TO ALLOW THE CAR TO SIT A FEW HOURS AND COME BACK TO GET IT TO MAKE IT WORK. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE THAT CAN AND WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR DEATH. ALSO AT A STOP LIGHT TO MAKE A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN I NEVER KNOW IF IT WILL ACCELERATE AS IT SHOULD THEREFORE I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THERE IS NO TRAFFIC AT ALL BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE MY TURN AND GET BACK INTO TRAFFIC. THERE IS NO CHECK ENGINE OR ANY WARNING LIGHTS OR SOUNDS WHEN THIS OCCURS. I HAVE CONSULTED WITH THE DEALER AND SEVERAL HYUNDAI SPECIALIST IN MY AREA AS WELL AS RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET WHICH I FOUND IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM BUT NO ONE HAS ANY ANSWERS AS THERE IS NO WAY TO SCAN THE VEHICLE WITHOUT A CHECK ENGINE OR WARNING LIGHT. THIS IS TERRIBLE AS MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 56275 MILES ON IT AND I CAN NOT GET IT TO WORK CORRECTLY OR EVEN IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. I AM UNWILLING TO CONTINUE TO PAY MONEY TO DEALERSHIPS WITH NO ANSWERS AND BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS OVER 150,000 MILES ON IT AND I KEPT UP MY MAINTENANCE. MY ENGINE HAS SEIZED MORE THAN ONCE. MY VEHICLE NEVER LET ME KNOW I WAS ON EMPTY, MY DASHBOARD SHOWED ME I HAD 3 LINES OF FUEL BUT IT WOULD NOT START UNTIL I PUT GAS. WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY ENGINE SEIZED, I CHECKED MY OIL AND I HAD ZERO FUEL, THIS WAS A MONTH AFTER MY OIL CHANGE. THE SECOND TIME MY ENGINE SEIZED I WAS TURNING ON A CITY STREET AND I HAD TO PULL OVER BECAUSE MY ENGINE SEIZED AGAIN. FOR SOME REASON, MY FUEL JUST DISAPPEARS WITH NO VISIBLE LEAKS.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
HYUNDAI CORPORATION KNEW THAT WAS A PROBLEM WITH MY CAR AND IDENTICAL CARS STEERING WHEEL COUPLER AND THEREFORE INCREASED COVERAGE FOR REPAIR FROM 50000 MILES TO 100000 NAMING ' CONCERN' INSTEAD OF FAULTY- DEFECTIVE TO AVOID RECALL. THEY NEVER NOTIFIED COSTUMERS REGARDING THIS CONCERN! MOST INEXPERIENCED DRIVERS DON'T UNDERSTAND THE CLICK SOUND THAT LATER TURNS INTO CLANK WHEN PART IS TOTALLY DAMAGED AND THAT TIME THEIR CAR IS BEYOND 100000 MILES. HYUNDAI DEALERSHIPS FAILED INTENTIONALLY TO NOTIFY CUSTOMERS SINCE THEY HAVE BEEN BENEFITING CHARGING $380 TO $480 TO REPLACE $2 PART. THIS CAR HAS SO MANY RECALLS ITS SCARY. I'VE HAD MY CAR CHECKED MULTIPLE TIMES FOR RECALLS FROM THE SEATBELT TO THE ENGINE BEARINGS. MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON A FEW MONTHS AGO AND I'VE NOTICED THIS CAR DOESN'T HOLD OIL WELL AND I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CHECK IT. I WAS LEAVING A STORE ON A MAIN HIGHWAY AND MY CAR STATRED8TO JERK. A FEW MOMENTS LATER, THE WARNING LIGHTS ON MY DASHBOARD WERE ON. I PULLED OFF THE RIDE AND TRIED TO PARK AND THE CAR WOULDN'T STOP! I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK IN ORDER FOR THE CAR TO NOT KEEP ROLLING DOWN THE ROAD. THE CAR WILL RUN WHILE IN NEUTRAL BUT NOT WHILE IN DRIVE. THE SCARIEST THING WAS I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO HIT A BUILDING NOT FAR FROM WHERE I PARKED. THANK GOD I THOUGHT QUICK. I'M DISAPPOINTED IN THE HYUNDAI BRAND. NEVER HAD I HAD SO MANY ISSUES WITH A CAR. ALL THE REPAIRS ARE SUPER EXPENSIVE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE CUSTOMERS HAVE. I LIKE MY CAR BUT WITH SO MANY DIFFERENT RECALLS AND ISSUES EVERY 6-12 MONTHS SHOWS POOR QUALITY AND ITS UNSAFE TO OPERATE. I'M UNHAPPY I PURCHASED THIS CAR AND FOUND 4 OPEN RECALLS AFTER IT WAS OFF THE LOT.

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE PUSHING OF THE ACCELERATOR THEREBY EITHER SLOWING DOWN OR HESITATING CREATING SCARY AND HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS ON THE ROAD. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT HIGH SPEEDS OR ON THE CITY ROADS IN SLOW TRAFFIC. THE BEHAVIOR IS UNPREDICTABLE AND UNCONTROLLABLE. ALSO, THE BRAKE LIGHT STAYS ON EVEN WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT TOUCHED WHICH IS DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING. UPON RESEARCH ON LINE, THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED CASE BUT HAS HAPPENED TO A NUMBER OF HYUNDAI VEHICLES. IT SEEMS THIS HAS TO DO WITH EITHER THE RUBBER STOPPER OF THE BRAKE SWITCH OR THE FAILURE OF THE BRAKE SWITCH OR BOTH. I CALLED HYUNDAI AND WAS INFORMED THAT NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN ISSUED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BUT THE WARRANTY ON THE STOPPER HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO 15 YEARS AND UNLIMITED MILES. THEY SHOULD EXTEND THIS WARRANTY NOT JUST TO THE STOPPER BUT TO THE WHOLE SWITCH ASSEMBLY. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT HYUNDAI HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE SWITCH ASSEMBLY BUT IS NOT INFORMING THE OWNERS OF THE POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD CAUSED BY THE FAILURE OF THIS ASSEMBLY. IN REALITY THEY SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO REPLACE THIS ASSEMBLY.
STEERING WHEEL MAKES CLICKING AND POPPING SOUND WHEN WHEEL IS TURNED LEFT AND RIGHT, THE VEHICLE IS ALSO PULLING VERY HARD AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE.
REAR TAIL LIGHT BRAKE LIGHTS GETS TOO HOT AND MELTS INSIDE THE SOCKET. IT'S A BIG FIRE HAZARD. THE HEAT MELTED THE INNER PART WHICH MADE ME REPLACE THE WHOLE TAIL LIGHT. BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT.

The contact stated that he had been adding a quart of engine oil to the vehicle every 1,000 – 1,500 miles. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer who informed the contact that it was a known failure. The contact stated while driving 65 PMH, the vehicle began to stall and sputtered. Additionally, there was black smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the crankshaft was releasing metal shavings into the oil. The dealer completed unknown repairs on the vehicle however, the failure reoccurred while driving. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer, Roswell Hyundai (1909 W 2nd St, Roswell, NM 88201) where unknown repairs were completed; however the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not cover the engine replacement as the failure was not significantly severe. The contact stated that both dealers informed him that he would need to continue driving the vehicle until the engine experienced a complete failure; then, the manufacturer would cover the engine replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
DRIVING MY CAR 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA FROM NYC TO OHIO, CAR OVERHEATED AND SHUT DOWN ON INTERSTATE 80 WEST BOUND POLICE MANDATED A TOW TO NEARBY MECHANIC WHERE THEY SAID MY THERMOSTAT ALONG WITH THERMOSTAT HOUSING WAS FRIED UP. IT WAS REPLACED ONLY TO 3 MONTHS LATER CAR OVERHEATED AGAIN, ALONG WITH GAS SMELLS IN THE AIR VENTS, AND STALLING AS WELL AS TOTAL ENGINE POWER LOSS. HOWEVER, COUPLE MONTHS LATER, RECALL 189 WAS ISSUED BUT DIDN'T RESOLVE OVERHEATING ISSUE, IN FACT MADE THE CAR REACTED MORE NEGATIVELY. ONE MORE MONTH LATER I WAS NOTIFIED OF HYUNDAI THETA ENGINE CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT SETTLEMENT AND PURSUED NEARBY DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THEY WOULD DIAGNOSE IT, WHICH SHOWED 7 CODERS SHOWING MISFIRE AND ONE FOR BATTERY FAULTY AND ONE FOR THE GAS RAIL AND PIPES. MY DEALERSHIP DIDN'T NOTIFY HYUNDAI THAT I MENTIONED MY CAR HAD BEEN STALLING, SHUTTING ITSELF DOWN A FEW TIMES AND HYUNDAI DENIED MY CLAIM FOR REPAIRS UNDER THIS SETTLEMENT WHICH IS A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON THE ENGINE. THERE IS EXTREMELY SOMETHING FAULTY WITH THE GAS PIPING ON THIS ENGINE
MY STEERING WHEEL CLICKS AND ALWAYS FEELS AS IF I'M SWERVING. NOW ON THE HIGHWAY ,STARTS SHAKING ONCE TO 70 MILES AN HOUR. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES WITHIN 2 WEEKS . RATTLED OR SHAKES REAL BAD GOING OVER RAILROAD TRACKS OR HITTING A SMALL WHOLE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT IS EVENTUALLY GONNA CAUSE ACCIDENTS IF NOT FIXED . I ASKED THE DEALER SHIP IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS AND THE RESPONSE WAS NO AND THE COST WOULD BE $250 TO REPAIR.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.

THE STEERING HAS BECOME LOOSE MAKES A VERY AUDIBLE CLUNKING SOUND WHEN STEERED LEFT AND RIGHT. THERE IS A SEVERE AMOUNT OF PLAY IN THE STEERING YOU CAN TURN IT UP TO 3 IN BEFORE THE VEHICLE ACTUALLY TURNS. IT ALSO CAUSES DRIFT DUE TO THE PLAY. IT MAKES THE CLUNKING NOISE EVEN WHEN SITTING STILL, ALSO HAS THE PLAY IN THE WHEEL WHEN SITTING STILL. IT WILL DRIFT WHILE IN MOTION AND HAVE THE SAME PLAY IN THE WHEEL AND CLUNKING.

A FIRE REPORT WAS TAKEN AT THE SCENE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AWAY. DURING THE INCIDENT, THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THE ENGINE WAS RECENTLY REPLACED UNDER A NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN. NO FURTHER INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT YET NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
