When I was passing another car I lost all power and every warning light came on. I was able to pull over. I had the car towed to dealer. It was total engine failure. Engine replaced with a rebuilt which Hyundai paid for. The original engine had 86,000 miles. There was no previous warning and I had taken the car in for a recall to have engine checked for excessive wear the year before. Certainly, my safety was at risk.
IT FIRST, JUST STARTED WITH THE TAIL LIGHT GOING OUT. THEN, THEY STARTED GETTING REAL HOT. T THE BULB STARTED MELTING AND COULD GET OUT. NOW, IT'S BURN WHERE THE BULB GOES. IT'S BURNED AND HAD MELTED AROUND WHERE CAN'T REPLACE A BULB. CALL THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID; NEED TO REPLACE THE WHOLE LAMP EACH SIDE IS $230 FOR EACH. I HAD GOT STOP WATCH BY THE POLICE FOR NOT HAVING NO TAIL LIGHTS. I CAN NOT AFFORD THE REPAIRS. MY CAR NOTE IS $362.00. AND, HAVE BEEN OFF AND ON OF WORK DO TO CONV19. *TR
I WAS DRIVING 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR JUST LOST POWER. I HAD TWO KIDS IN THE BACK SEAT. I AM ALL UP TO DATE WITH MY CAR MAINTENANCE. I REALLY DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY HYUNDAI SONATA. *TR

JIMMY ELLIS HYUNDAI (5785 PEACHTREE INDUSTRIAL BLVD, ATLANTA, GA, (770-454-6789) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT SIMILAR VEHICLES WERE SUBJECTED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED PRIOR TO A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BEING PERFORMED. THE TECHNICIAN CLEANED THE ENGINE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE FAILURE WAS NOT RELATED TO THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RETRIEVED THE VEHICLE AND WHILE DRIVING BACK TO HER RESIDENCE, SHE WAS INFORMED BY ANOTHER DRIVER THAT THE BRAKE LAMPS WERE INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER ON ANOTHER DAY TO BE INSPECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000.

THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO RESET THE STEERING MODULE BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE REMAINED PARKED AND UNDRIVABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000.
LATE APRIL NOTICED GAS ODOR COMING FROM CAR AFTER TURNING IT OFF. HYUNDAI WEBSITE INDICATED RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE - CAMPAIGN 189. CONTACTED HYUNDAI TO FIND OUT HOW TO GET FIXED. THIS IN PART THEIR RESPONSE: OUR RECORDS INDICATE THAT YOUR VEHICLE IS NOT AFFECTED BY CAMPAIGN 189. MADE APPOINTMENT WITH REGULAR ASE-CERTIFIED MASTER TECHNICIAN. HE IDENTIFIED THE FUEL LEAK AND NOTED ON INVOICE: ACTIVE FUEL LEAK PRESENT, ABOVE FUEL TANK, PROBABLE CRACKED FUEL PUMP MODULE. IF SO PUMP REPLACEMENT ESTIMATE IS $750 (HYUNDAI PUMP/SEAL, LABOR, TAX). FUEL LEAK IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, FIRE HAZARD, RAW FUEL JUST LOOKING FOR AN IGNITION SOURCE. I NOTIFIED HYUNDAI OF CONFIRMED DEFECT. THIS IS IN PART THEIR RESPONSE: WE ARE SORRY TO HEAR THAT YOU STILL HAVE CONCERNS REGARDING YOUR 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA AND THAT FROM THE INFORMATION YOU RECEIVED FROM AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT INITIALLY DISCOVERED A RECALL FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER :20V121000(FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). JONES BEL AIR HYUNDAI (1504 BELAIR RD, BEL AIR, MD 21014) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE AND A NEW MOTOR AND FUEL LINE WAS PLACED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AFTER THE REPAIR, THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE TO START AS AN UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE DASHBOARD. ON MAY 18, 2020, UPON ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, WHITE SMOKE BEGAN TO EMIT FROM THE HOOD. THE CONTACT THEN EXITED THE VEHICLE AND CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AS FLAMES BEGAN TO EMIT FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED, THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AS A RESULT OF THE FIRE. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED AND A FIRE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO JONES BEL AIR HYUNDAI AND AN INSURANCE INVESTIGATION WAS CONDUCTED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD YET TO BE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 111,800.

MY LAST RECENT OIL CHANGE WAS TWO MONTHS AGO SERVICE HAS BEEN KEPT UP ON THE CAR I ACCELERATED AND IT SEEMS AS IF I'VE THROWN A ROD WHEN I GET OFF THE FREEWAY I CAN HEAR KNOCKING I DON'T HAVE ANY LEAKAGE OR ANYTHING BUT IT CAN CLEAR YOU HEAR THE KNOCKING AND IF YOU ACCELERATE YOU'RE HERE LIKE THE BEARINGS ARE GRINDING I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME BUT THERE'S A LOT OF KNOCKING NOISE IN THE ENGINE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON OCCASIONS AFTER THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED, THE RPM WOULD REV UP HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND WITH ACCELERATOR PEDAL DEPRESSED. ADDITIONALLY, THE BRAKE LAMP BULBS WERE BEING REPLACED FREQUENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000.
SO MY STEERING WHEEL COUPLER HAS GONE BAD I KNEW THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS WHEN I FIRST GOT THE CAR; WHEN I WENT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP NOBODY WOULD FIX IT AND THEY TRIED TO CHARGE ME $600 TO FIX IT. AND BECAUSE OF COVID I COULDNT GET IT FIXED SINCE I WAS FURLOUGHED. THEN I WAS CHARGED $500 TO TRY TO FIND WHAT A TICKING NOISE.WAS IN MY CAR AND I WAS CHARGED FOR.SOMETHING THAT HYUNDAI DIDNT FIX AND OTHER DEALERS CHARGED ME AND MY ISSUE STILL WASNT FIXED. ALL TOGETHER I WASTED ALMOST $1100 TO FIND A WAY TO FIX MY ISSUES AND NOTHING WAS FIXED. THE SECOND ISSUE I WAS TOLD WAS HEAT BOX AND ACTUATOR BUT IT WASNT FIXED BECAUSE HYUNDAI TRIED TO CHARGE ME $3,041.84..... I KNOW ALOT OF.THINGS ARE APART OF THESE RECALLS THIS CAR HAVE BUT NO ONE EVEN HYUNDAI WAS WILLING TO FIX IT FREE OF CHARGE.
MY STEERING WHEEL STARTS SHAKING WHEN I GO OVER 60MPH AND WHENEVER I DRIVE THROUGH A SLIGHTLY BUMPY ROAD
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. HORRIBLE GRINDING SOUND FROM ALL THE WHEELS. CHIMING. HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING.

FOUND OUT THAT THE THE HYDRAULIC POWER UNIT IS AT FAULT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I HAD TO PAY OVER 2000 OUT OF POCKET. COMPLAINED TO HYUNDAI COSTUMER SERVICE AND ALSO TO THE BBB AND THEY ALL TOLD ME TO FILE A REPORT WITH YOU. THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE SONATA HYBRID SINCE 2019. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, I AM PULLED OVER FOR HAVING A LEFT TAIL-LIGHT THAT IS OUT. I HAVE UTILIZED MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP RECENTLY TO ADDRESS THE SITUATION AS I FREQUENTLY CHANGE THE LIGHT BULB OUT, AND END UP WITH YET THE SAME LIGHT OUT WITHIN DAYS/WEEKS. AFTER I HAVE PAID THE DEALERSHIP ROUGHLY $75 TO GET A 'BRAKE SWITCH' REPLACED TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM, MY LIGHT IS OUT ONCE AGAIN. *TR

FULL ENGINE SHUTDOWN WHILE GOING 70 ON THE HIGHWAY., NO BRAKES, GAS, STEERING WHEEL, BUT SURPRISINGLY I WAS ABLE TO ROLL SAFELY TO A STOP WITHOUT COMING IN CONTACT WITH ANYTHING/ONE. HYUNDAI AGREED THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED SO THEY REPLACED IT BUT NOT THE INITIAL ISSUE OF THE FUEL FEED LINE.(WHICH I GOT A RECALL IN THE MAIL THE NEXT DAY FOR A FUEL LINE) HYUNDAI HAS NOT GIVEN ME AN ESTIMATED TIME FRAME IN WHEN THIS RECALL WILL BE FIXED. KINDA SCARY TO DRIVE AROUND IN....
EVERY TIME THAT I DRIVE MY VEHICLE MY CAR STALLS AND IT ALMOST CAUSE ME TO WRECK. I HAD FUEL PUMP PROBLEM IN WHICH I SPENT OVER $1,000 TO GET FIXED IS STILL HAVING ISSUES AND THE HYUNDAI WILL NOT REFUND ME MY MONEY KNOWING THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAS A RECALL. THEY HAVE CONSTANTLY BEEN GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND.
I WAS TRAVELING TO HOUSTON TEXAS ON APRIL 17, 2020 WHEN I NOTICED MY SERVICE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT WENT ON. I HAD JUST PASSED SWEETWATER TEXAS SO I DRIVE TO THE NEAREST AUTOZONE WHICH WAS LOCATED AT STORE #1367 311 E COMMERCE, BROWNWOOD, TEXAS 76801AND HAD IT CHECKED THEY SAID IT WAS FUEL RAIL SYSTEM PRESSURE WAS TOO LOW. THIS IS WHEN I DISCOVERED IT HAD A RECALL ON IT FOR THE SAME THING. DO I NEED TO RETURN TO DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT FROM AND ARE THEY RESPONSIBLE FOR SELLING CAR AS IS WITH A RECALL ON IT. WHEN VEHICLE IS PUT FROM PARK INTO DRIVE IT JILTS AND WHEN DRIVING SHIFTS HARD, TOOK IT INTO MECHANIC SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME ITS A RECALL AND THAT HYUNDAI IS BEING DIFFICULT WITH WANTING TO FIX IT. ALSO GAVE ME THE PAPERS FOR INFORMATION ON THE TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE SENSOR RECALL.

MY 2013 90K MILE HYUNDAI SONATA'S STEERING HAS BEEN MAKING A CLUNCKING/CLICKING NOISE WHEN TURNED/MOVED FROM RIGHT TO LEFT. THE STEERING WHEEL HAS NOTICEABLE PLAY WHEN PARKED AND WHEN DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS SEEMS TO NOT MAINTAIN A STRAIGHT LINE PULLS RIGHT TO LEFT. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE HYUNDAI DEALER ON THURSDAY TO HAVE IT CHECKED TO SEE WHAT THE ISSUE IS. I WILL UPDATE WHEN I HEAR WHAT THE PROBLEM IS/REMEDY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,274.

THE STEERING HAS BEEN PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE OVER TIME. INITIALLY I STARTED WITH MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKING OCCASIONALLY. THEN STARTED SMALL CLICKING AND CLUNKING NOISES WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL OR GOING OVER BUMPS. NOW THE NOISE IS ALL LOT WORSE AND THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS LIKE IT WANTS TO COME OFF AT TIMES. I HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME ISSUES AND YET HYUNDAI HAS NOT ADMITTED THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES. I HAVE BEEN BASICALLY PLEASED WITH THIS VEHICLE UP UNTIL THIS ISSUE STARTED. A LOT OF COMPLAINTS I READ WAS THAT THIS STARTED AROUND THE 100,000 MILE POINT, WHICH WOULD BE CORRECT WITH ME AS WELL, IT STARTED JUST BEFORE I HIT 100,000 AND HAS CONTINUED AND PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE.
