I AM INQUIRING ABOUT AN "OPEN RECALL" ON MY 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS. THE OFFICIAL RECALL TITLE IS "CAMPAIGN 189" IT INVOLVES THE "FUEL LINE" AND COULD LEAD TO A POSSIBLE FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN EARLY JUNE FROM "GETTEL HYUNDAI/ BEE RIDGE IN SARASOTA,FL. LOOKING UP THE RECALL INFORMATION--IT WAS LISTED AS "NO REMEDY AVAILABLE." THE RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED ON 3/4/20... AND ACCORDING TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS SHOULD HAVE BEEN REMEDIED BY APRIL. AS I WRITE THIS WE ARE INTO JULY! I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI OF AMERICA CORPORATE OFFICES AS WELL AS THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR. NEITHER COULD GIVE ME ANY ANSWERS AS TO WHEN THIS ISSUE COULD BE ADDRESSED??? ALL I WAS TOLD IS THAT IF I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE THAT CONCERNS CAMPAIGN 189... IT WILL REPAIRED--OF COURSE--FREE OF CHARGE. SO I GUESS IF MY ENGINE CATCHES ON FIRE ON A HIGHWAY SOME NIGHT--IT'LL BE TAKEN CARE OF?? I WANT THE RECALL ISSUE OF MY CAR ADDRESSED NOW !!! THE ENGINE IN THIS PARTICULAR MODEL IS HYUNDAI'S 2.4L GDI (THETA II). THE ENGINE SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING EVEN THOUGH IT HAD THE SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT DETECTS ENGINE WEAR AND PREVENTS ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. HYUNDAI DID WELL AND REPLACED THE ENGINE UNDER WARRANTY AND PROVIDED ME A RENTAL VEHICLE. 8,000 MILES LATER WITH THE SAME VEHICLE NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS FLASHING AND ACCELERATION IS DRAMATICALLY REDUCED. I WAS ABLE TO TAKE SOME BACKROADS WITH LITTLE TRAFFIC TO A LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND AM WAITING FOR DIAGNOSIS AGAIN.THIS STARTED ON A VERY BUSY LOCAL HIGHWAY.
I STARTED TO NOTICE THAT THE STEERING HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY LOOSE IN MARCH OF 2020. RECENTLY WHILE DRIVING OVER EVEN THE SMALLEST BUMPS IN THE ROAD THE STEERING WHEEL HAS STARTED TO RATTLE AND SHAKE AND FEELS LIKE IT MAY COME OFF. I WORK FROM HOME, SO THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN A LOT AND MOSTLY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 35 TO 55 MILES PER HOUR. I ASKED MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT WHILE I WAS THERE LAST WEEK (9/22/20) TO HAVE A RECALL FIXED AND I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE $150 JUST TO LOOK AT THE STEERING WHEEL UNLESS THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR IT. AFTER SEEING THE MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE, THIS SHOULD CERTAINLY BE FIXED BY HYUNDAI VIA A RECALL. I WAS CONSIDERING REPLACING MY VEHICLE WITH ANOTHER HYUNDAI NEXT YEAR, BUT DUE TO THIS ISSUE, PROBABLY NOT. IT IS DISCONCERTING TO DRIVE A VEHICLE THAT THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS THAT IT MAY BREAK. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS WITH ANY CAR AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 40 YEARS.

WHEN DRIVING, MY STEERING WHEEL SHAKES/RATTLES MAJOR ON HIGHWAY TO WEAR I HAVE TO HOLD THE STEERING TIGHTER TO TRY TO MAKE IT MORE SECURE. IT ALSO SHAKES/RATTLES JUST DRIVING THROUGH THE CITY AT LOWER SPEEDS. IT DOES NOT FEEL SAFE, SECURE OR NORMAL FOR THIS TO BE OCCURRING. IT FEELS LIKE IT IS THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN THAT IS HAVING ISSUES AND JUST SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE OVER TIME.

ON 02/28/2020 I RECEIVED A NOTICE (HYUNDAI RECALL #189,NHTSA RECALL #20V-121) OF A DEFECT IN THE FUEL FEED LINE THAT COULD RESULT IN AN ENGINE FIRE. OVER 4 MONTHS LATER, HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA ADVISES THAT "WE ARE CURRENTLY PREPARING A REMEDY." IT WOULD SEEM THAT OVERCOMING THE RISK OF AN ENGINE FIRE WOULD BE ADDRESSED WITH MUCH MORE URGENCY SINCE BODILY INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE ARE AT STAKE.CAN YOU ASSIST IN SPEEDING UP THE DETERMINATION OF A REMEDY

MY FRONT AND PASSENGER DRIVER'S SIDE DOORS HAVE HAD THE LOCKING MECHANISM/ACTUATOR CABLES DETACH AND BREAK. REQUIRING ME TO HAVE A MECHANIC FORCEFULLY OPEN THE DOORS AND THEN REPLACE THE INTERNAL LOCKING ASSEMBLY AND CABLES AT A COST OF OVER $800 PER DOOR. ONE DOOR CABLE BROKE IN THE SUMMER OF 2019 AND THE SECOND DOOR, THE DRIVERS DOOR, JUST BROKE THIS FRIDAY 2/21/2020. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD AND IS KNOWN TO HAPPEN IN THIS VEHICLE AFTER WARRANTY IS OUT. IF THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT SOMEONE KNOWING THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO OPEN THEIR DOOR. I WORK WITH UBER AND LYFT AS A SECOND JOB AS WELL AND CANNOT HAVE THIS TYPE OF MECHANICAL ISSUE.

EVERY OTHER MONTH MY BRAKE LIGHTS AND/OR HEADLIGHTS ARE BURNING OUT. THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE MELTING INTO THE SOCKET. I'VE REPLACED THE SOCKETS ONCE AND NOW I HAVE TO REPLACE THEM AGAIN.
RECENTLY BOUGHT MY CAR FROM MAXWELL FORD AND ENGING KNOCK LOUDLY AFTER ONLY 4 MONTHS OF DRIVING. WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC THAT THERES METAL SHAVINGS IN OIL AND OIL PAN DAMAGE. TOLD HYUNDAI AND THEY REFUSED MY CLAIM.
OK I'M AM SERIOUSLY GOING TO START LOOKING INTO FILING A CLASS ACTION AGAINST HYUNDAI. FOR THE 6-7TH TIME MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE MELTING AND BURNING OUT. AT THIS POINT IT'S BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE DRIVING AROUND AT NIGHT OR EARLY MORNING WITH NO BRAKE LIGHTS. HOW HAS THIS NOT BEEN RESOLVED BY NOW? THE COST OF REPAIRS IS TOO MUCH FOR THE ISSUE TO NOT EVEN BEING RESOLVED. ALMOST EVERY HYUNDAI I SEE HAS BRAKE LIGHTS OUT AND PEOPLE ARE CONSTANTLY TELLING ME MY LIGHTS ARE OUT. EVEN POLICE NOTE HYUNDAI DRIVERS HAVE A CONSTANT ISSUE WITH THIS. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL NOW!
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON A SIDE STREET AND WITHOUT WARNING , IT DIED, ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON AND I COULD NOT EVEN APPLY THE BRAKES.
I WAS CHANGING TO THE LEFT LANE I USED THE TURN INDICATOR AND IT WOULD NOT RELEASE IT STAYED BLINKING AS I CONTINUED DRIVING AND TO DISCONTINUE THE BLINKING. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TURNS (LEFT OR RIGHT) I HAVE TO SOMETIMES USE THE INDICATOR OF HIGH BEAM TO DISCONTINUE THE BLINKING. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT WHEN I USED THE INSIDE DASH BOARD LAMP THE LEFT HEADLIGHT BLEW OUT ONLY THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT HAS LIT UP USING THE REMOTE UNLOCK.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. FEB 2020 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLICKERED ON AND OFF. OIL CHANGE WAS NOT DUE AT THAT TIME. I STOPPED OFF AT A LOCAL OIL SHOP, THEY TOPPED OFF THE OIL. THEN MADE AN APPT WITH HYUNDAI REPAIR SHOP. SINCE FEBRUARY I HAVE COMPLETED MULTIPLE OIL CONSUMPTION TRIALS. WHEN THOSE FAILED HYUNDAI RECOMMENDED A COMPRESSION/LEAKAGE TEST ON ALL 4 CYLINDERS. ACCORDING TO HYUNDAI THE CAR DID NOT MEET CRITERIA FOR PASSING, BUT DIDN'T FAIL EITHER. 1 CYLINDER FAILED THE LEAKAGE TEST. HYUNDAI RECOMMENDED FUEL SYSTEM SERVICE WITH FOAM CLEANER AT MY COST ($300-400). I REDID OIL CONSUMPTION TRIAL, MY CAR STARTED CONSUMING MORE AND MORE OIL AS I MOVED FARTHER AWAY FROM THE CLEANING SERVICE. I TECHNICALLY DIDN'T FAIL THAT OIL CONSUMPTION TRIAL, BUT BY THE LAST 1000 MILES I WAS USING 1.25 QUARTS. THEY RECOMMENDED ANOTHER OIL CONSUMPTION TRIAL, WHICH FAILED. NOW HYUNDAI IS RECOMMENDING THAT I DO A TEAR DOWN TO POINT OF FAILURE OF MY ENGINE TO DIAGNOSE WHY IT IS FAILING AT MY COST - ANOTHER $300-400. THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP HAS STATED THAT HYUNDAI JUST NEEDS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE ALREADY. THEY STATED NOT TO WORRY ABOUT THE MILEAGE OF THE CAR BECAUSE JUST A FEW WEEKS PRIOR HYUNDAI REPLACED THE ENGINE OF A 2013 SONATA AT 230,000 MILES. HYUNDAI CORPORATE DOES NOT SEEM CONCERNED ABOUT MY ISSUES AND IS QUITE CAVALIER ABOUT IT. HYUNDAI CORPORATE EVEN CLOSED MY CASE # WITHOUT CHECKING TO SEE IF THE ISSUE HAD BEEN RESOLVED. NOT ONCE DURING THE LAST 5 MONTHS HAS HYUNDAI WARNED ME ABOUT THE KNOWN ISSUES WITH THIS ENGINE THAT THEY CAN LEAD TO CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURES AND FIRES. I HAVE 2 YOUNG CHILDREN, WOULD THERE BE ENOUGH TIME TO UNBUCKLE THEM AND REMOVE THEM FOR THE CAR SHOULD MY ENGINE CATCH ON FIRE? HYUNDAI HAS A PRODUCT THAT IS KNOWN TO FAIL, THEY NEED TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT AND THAT IS TO REPLACE THE FAULTY ENGINES IN THESE CARS.

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT SWERVED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND THE BATTERY DISCONNECTED AND RECONNECTED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.
REMEDY FOR KNOWN RECALL STILL NOT AVAILABLE. THIS RECALL IS NOT BEING DONE IN A TIMELY MANNER. PROBLEM IS LOW PRESSURE FUEL HOSE WHICH MAY CRACK AND POSSIBLY LEAD TO AN ENGINE FIRE.

THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO HER RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT CONTACTED AN UNKNOWN DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACE DUE TO COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 106,000.
The brake lights and headlights keep going out within a few month of changing the bulbs
WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY IN MOTION, CAR STALLED WARNING. ALL LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON. COULD NOT BRAKE. COULD NOT SHIFT CAR OUT OF DRIVE. COULD NOT TURN THE CAR OFF. HAD TO ENGAGE EMERGENCY BRAKE.
THE REAR LIGHTS MELT AROUND THE BRAKE LIGHT BULBS AND YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE BULB BECAUSE THE WHOLE WHERE IT GOES INTO MELTS BOTH SIDES ARE CURRENTLY MELTED
THE FLEXIBLE COUPLING IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT CONNECTS THE STEERING INPUT TO THE SERVO MOTOR IS DISINTEGRATING, CAUSING DRIVER INPUT TO FEEL "STICKY". THE VEHICLE IS UNRESPONSIVE TO SMALL STEERING CORRECTIONS. THE VEHICLE IS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, ESPECIALLY ON THE FREEWAY, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN UNINTENTIONAL LANE DEPARTURE AND COLLISION. THIS SAME ISSUE WAS RECALLED ON ELANTRA MODELS.
THE ENGINE STOPPED IN MY CAR, AND THERE WAS A KNOCK AS THE CAR MOVED AT A SPEED OF 30 MILES. HYUNDAI UKRAINE REJECTED MY REQUEST TO CONSIDER THE COMPLAINT ABOUT THE ENGINE STOP, AS THE ENGINE IS MADE IN THE USA, AND HYUNDAI UKRAINE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CARS PRODUCED AND SOLD OUTSIDE OF UKRAINE. HYUNDAI UKRAINE STATED THAT HYUNDAI DOES NOT COVER CARS WORLDWIDE WITH A GUARANTEE. SPEAKING OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE QUALITY OF THEIR PRODUCTS, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU TO JEEP, THEY HAVE A GUARANTEE ALL OVER THE WORLD. MY HEAD LAMP BULB HAVE BEEN REPLACED 3 TIME IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS AND THE BRAKE LIGHT BULBS HAVE BEEN REPLACED 5 TIMES AS OF TODAY. THERE HAS GO TO BE SOMETHING THAT IS CAUSING THIS TO HAPPEN. NO BULBS SHOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED THIS OFTEN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT, SO I PULLED OVER CHECKED MY BULBS AND THEY WERE PERFECTLY FINE NOT BURNED OUT NEITHER WAS THE FUSE, I WAS STUMPED SO I CALLED MY INSURANCE CARRIER TO HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED HOME. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE ONLY TO CHARGE ME $95 FOR A FIND OF THE WIRING IN THE HEADLIGHTS TO BE AFFECTED , IVE READ ONLINE OTHER CONSUMERS ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH THE SAME THING NOT TO MENTION THE MANUFACTURER HAVING OVER 5 RECALLS FOR THESE VEHICLE WHICH CONSIDERS THEM AS LEMON VEHICLES UNDER THE CALIFORNIA LEMON LAW
WHEN STEERING, A CLUNKING NOICE IS HEARD AND FELT AS IF IT'S LOOSE. WAS ABLE TO TRACE NOISE TO THE AREA OF JOINT ASSY STEERING.
STOPPED AT A TOOL BOOTH ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY. WHEN THE BAR RAISED TO LET ME THROUGH, I ACCELERATED AND THE CAR COMPLETELY DIED WITHOUT WARNING. FORTUNATELY, WAS ABLE TO GET TO SHOULDER AND CALL FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. GARAGE CAR WAS TOWED TO TRIED TO CRANK IT AND GOT SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD. EVENTUALLY DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE WAS LOCKED UP AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. ENGINE HAS JUST OVER 90K MILES AND HAS HAD REGULAR OIL CHANGES.
MY STEERING COLUMN STARTED MAKING A CLACKING NOISE WITH ANY TURNING OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND GOING OVER ANY BUMPS, DIPS IN THE ROADWAY MADE IT EVEN WORSE. THERE WAS SOME PLAY TO THE STEERING WHEEL MAKING IT SEEM LIKE YOU COULD LOSE CONTROL AT ANY MOMENT. IT WAS CAUSED BY A WORN STEERING COUPLER. IT COST ME OVER $240 FOR DEALERSHIP TO FIX. THIS APPEARS TO BE A CONSTANT PROBLEM FOR THE HYUNDAI AND SHOULD BE A RECALL INVESTIGATION BY YOUR AGENCY.
HAVING TO REPLACE EXTERIOR BACK RUNNING / BRAKE LIGHT BULBS AT LEAST OR NEAR EVERY 2 MONTHS. NOTICED THAT MAYBE THE BULB IS GETTING TO HOT CAUSING THE LENS TO WRAP WHICH IS MAKING CHANGING THE BULB A REAL TASK AND HARD TO GET THE BULB BACK IN PLACE. GETTING READY TO CHANGE IT AGAIN TODAY (3/10/2020).
I HAVE HAD BOTH MY BACK LIGHT HARNESSES WHERE A BULB HAS BLOWN AND IT WAS SO HOT IT MELTED THE BULB ENDS INTO THE SOCKET AND I HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE HARNESS FOR ONE SIDE AND MIGHT HAVE TO REPLACE IT FOR THE OTHER SIDE AS WELL. WHILE PARKED AT THE AIRPORT FOR 2 WEEKS, THE RIGHT FRONT SUSPENSION COIL BROKE. I NOTICED THE PROBLEM WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO LEAVE THE PARKING LOT AND HEARD A HORRENDOUS METAL SCRAPING NOISE. UPON STOPPING THE CAR AND INSPECTING, I COULD SEE THE COIL SPRING HANGING DOWN. IT SCRAPED UP THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE IN JUST THE SHORT TIME TO DRIVE ACROSS THE PARKING LOT TO WHERE THERE WAS MORE LIGHT.

WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL I HEAR A CLICKING NOISE LIKE SOMETHING IS LOOSE OR BROKEN. THERE REGULARLY IS A BURNING SMELL LIKE HOT PLASTIC IS MELTING AND THE BRAKE LIGHT CONSTANTLY BURNS OUT. WHEN CHANGING THE BULB I NOTICED THE CASING APPEARS BURNED AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO REMOVE THE BULB FOR REPLACEMENT. I SMELL THE BURNING SCENT WHEN I STOP AND EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE CLICKING NOICE IS WHENEVER I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL.

I PURCHASED A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA AND ONCE IT HIT A LITTLE OVER 100K MILES IT STARTED USING MORE AND MORE OIL. I'M CURRENTLY USING 1-1.5 QUARTS EVERY 1000 MILES OR SO. I RELIGIOUSLY CHANGE THE OIL BUT IT'S EITHER WAY TOO LOW BY THAT TIME OR IS ALMOST BLACK. I CHECK MY OIL EVERY WEEK SINCE I'M A ONE INCOME HOUSEHOLD AND I TAKE MY KIDS TO AND FROM SCHOOL IN IT. I MAINTAIN IT VERY WELL AND MAKE SURE IT HAS THE PROPER OIL AND OTHER FLUIDS. IT'S A CONSTANT HASSLE TRYING TO KEEP IT FROM GOING LOW AND BLOWING THE MOTOR UP. I HOPE THIS PROBLEM IS RESOLVED SOON.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED TO PAY A PORTION OF THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 151,894.
I have contacted the Hyundai headquarters several times, about what I believe to be an electrical problem in my vehicle. The lights (break and drive) in my vehicle continue to blow out, even after being replaced numerous times. My break light casing has melted, as a result of what I believe to be associated with a previous recall. This recall, caused break lights to remain on, which caused overheating and burning. I took my car to the dealership to service this problem after being instructed to do so be a representative. However, I was informed that there was no issue, that needed to be serviced. However, I continue to experience this issue. I have witnessed countless Hyundai’s being driven by other drivers and they too, seem to experiencing malfunctioning break lights. I even paid to have a diagnostic test completed at the Hyundai dealership, in an attempt to rectify the problem. However, I was informed the there was no electrical issue present. This is a huge safety concern, because driving without properly working lights, is illegal and I have received traffic violations for doing so. It is extremely unsafe, due to having the ability to cause accidents on the road. If other drivers are not aware of my vehicle stopping or even being on the road, due to improperly displayed lights. It creates a huge safety concern. Recently, I’ve begun to smell gas coming from my vehicle and then I received the recall notice associated with the fuel pump. Since then, I have received a second notice regarding this recall. Neither letter, addresses when my vehicle will be serviced. I am extremely nervous to drive my vehicle, due to the fuel leakage and the ability that it can cause a fire in my engine. I am extremely displeased with Hyundai, and I no longer want this vehicle. Since purchasing this car, there have been several recalls. Additionally, I have attempted to speak with Hyundai directly, and they have refused to assist me further.
WE HAVE REPLACED THE BACK BRAKE LIGHT BULBS MULTIPLE TIMES. NOW THE BACK RIGHT REAR BREAK LIGHT ISN'T WORKING RIGHT. WE TOOK IT TO HYUNDAI AND THEY SAID IT WAS MELTED AND THE PART WE NEED TO REPLACE THE WIRING HARNESS AND JUST THE PART IS OVER 400.00. I AM NOT SPENDING 400.00 ON SOMETHING THAT SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURER ISSUE!! HOW HAS HYUNDAI NOT SUBMITTED A RECALL FOR THIS? THERE SEEMS TO BE PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT.
