WAS DRIVING CAR DOWN SECONDARY ROAD AROUND 45MPH. CAR BEGAN TO SLOW IN SPEED, WOULD NOT ACCELERATE & EVENTUALLY JUST CUT OFF. SMOKE/BURNING SMELL CAME FROM ENGINE. TRIED TO JUMP IT TO NO AVAIL. HAD CAR TOWED, MECHANIC HAD TO HAND CRANK ENGINE TO GET IT STARTED. MECHANIC (JOHN @ CAMPBELL'S IN PRINCE GEORGE, VA) INFORMED ME THAT ENGINE SEIZED & NEEDED A NEW ONE. THERE WAS A CURRENT KNOCKING SOUND ONCE THEY FINALLY GOT IT RUNNING. LEARNED OF ENGINE RECALL, HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED (GATEWAY HYUNDAI 2200 WALTHALL CENTER DR. CHESTER VA 23836 804-414-2020 SERVICE TECH: TOMMY, SERVICE CENTER MANAGER: MR. CARPENTER) THEY INFORMED ME OF THE RECALL, TOLD ME THEY WOULD TEST CAR. AFTER HAVING TO CALL SEVERAL TIMES, I WAS FINALLY TOLD THAT THE CAR PASSED THE ENGINE TEST AND WOULD NOT BE REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL. I REITERATED WHAT I WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC, CAR HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES WITH NO PREVIOUS ISSUES & REGULAR MAINTENANCE & NO REASON FOR ENGINE FAILURE. SERVICE TECH AND MANAGER AGREED. HYUNDAI HAD THEM RUN THE SAME TEST 3 TIMES. MR. CARPENTER EXPLAINED THAT THEY HAVE TOLD HYUNDAI MY CAR FALLS UNDER THE RECALL AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED AND AFTER TWO WEEKS OF HAVING NO CAR, HYUNDAI STILL WILL NOT REPAIR MY ENGINE. SERVICE MANAGER SAID THEY HEAR THE KNOCKING BUT HYUNDAI IS STILL DRAGGING IT OUT. MEANWHILE I'M A SINGLE MOTHER OF TWO KIDS AND WORK FULL TIME WITH A FAR COMMUTE AND AM SPENDING EXTRA EXPENSES ON TRANSPORTATION. HYUNDAI KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM, THEY SHOULD STOP TRYING TO GET OVER ON INNOCENT PAYING CUSTOMERS AND REMEDY THE SITUATION.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, THE STEERING CATCHES WHEN TRYING TO MAKE MINOR ADJUSTMENTS. WHEN IT CATCHES, AND I HAVE TO FORCE THE CORRECTION, IT TENDS TO RELEASE AND OVER CORRECT. I HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL TO STAY IN MY LANE. THIS IS A CONSTANT AND ON GOING ISSUE. I WON'T LET MY SON DRIVE THIS CAR BECAUSE I'M AFRAID IT WILL CAUSE HIM TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. I'VE CALLED SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS AND THEY KEEP SAYING THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A SUBSTANTIAL NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FOR THIS ON-LINE. IT IS EXHAUSTING TRYING TO MAINTAIN YOUR LANE ON THE INTERSTATE AND IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.
DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN ENGINE STARTED MAKING LOUDER AND LOUDER CLICKING AND GRINDING NOISES. ENGINE STALLED SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. VEHICLE IS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA 2.0T.
THIS HAS OCCURRED TWICE IN THE LAST YEAR, ONLY IN THE MORNING AFTER STARTING THE CAR FOR THE FIRST TIME. I HAVE APPLIED THE BRAKES AT THE END OF MY (CITY) STREET, ONLY TO HAVE THE BRAKES ENGAGE FOR A MOMENT, THEN DISENGAGE, ALLOWING THE CAR TO COAST FOR SEVERAL FEET, BEFORE FINALLY RE-ENGAGING AND STOPPING. THIS LAST TIME IT OCCURRED, I ALMOST DRIFTED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC AND THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I NOW HAVE IT AT THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO RE-CREATE THE ISSUE.
THIS VEHICLES STEERING WILL NOT STAY CENTERED WHILE DRIVING. THERE'S A HARD SPOT AT CENTER THAT CAUSES YOU TO BE EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT OF IT CAUSING CONSTANT STRUGGLE TO KEEP IT IN YOUR LANE. HAVE BEEN TO SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS ONLY TO BE TOLD THERE'S NO RECALL OR TSB'S ON THIS VEHICLE REGARDING THIS ISSUE. RESEARCHING THE WEB I'VE DISCOVERED DOZENS OF HYUNDAI OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. IF NOT BEING ABLE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE CENTERED IN YOUR LANE ISN'T A SAFETY ISSUE I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS! ONE SERVICE WRITER IN FT. COLLINS COLORADO ACTUALLY ADMITTED THERE WAS A PROBLEM BUT DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO GO ABOUT FIXING IT. THE SAME ISSUE HAS BEEN ADDRESSED ON 2012 SONATAS BUT APPARENTLY NOTHING WAS DONE AT THE FACTORY TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM IN 2013
MY BREAK LIGHTS WENT OUT SO I ENDED UP CHANGING THE BULBS AND THE FUSE COME TO FIND OUT ITS THE BREAK SWITCH WHICH CAUSED THE WIRES TO BREAK AND THE BULBS MELTED THE TAIL END COVERINGS
I WAS NOTIFIED OF THE NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 17V226000 A FEW MONTHS. I BELIEVE THAT THE ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE SINCE MANY OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES ARE BEING DRIVING IN THE NATION'S ROAD. THE RECALL WAS SENT OUT IN MARCH 31, 2017 AND SO FAR THERE HAS BEEN NO REMEDY. THE VEHICLE OWNERS ARE ENTITLED TO A REMEDY TO PREVENT ANY FUTURE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.

WHILE THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING 70 MPH, THE DRIVER HEARD A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS LIKELY RELATED TO THE RECALL. CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR THE CONTACT SPOKE TO SUPERIOR HYUNDAI (110 S QUINTARD AVE, ANNISTON, AL 36201) WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE UNLESS THE CONTACT PAID A FEE. THE CONTACT THEN SPOKE TO SERRA HYUNDAI (1201 CENTER POINT PKWY, BIRMINGHAM, AL 35215) WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS LIKELY CAUSED BY THE RECALL ISSUE; HOWEVER, THEY WERE WAITING ON THE MANUFACTURER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE DEALER WOULD DETERMINE WHETHER THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED OR NOT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,600. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER (SOUTHTOWNE HYUNDAI, 7665 GA-85, RIVERDALE, GA 30274). THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT IF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPEATED, THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE LIGHTING FAILED INDEPENDENTLY AND THE ENGINE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE BEGAN AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED PER TSB:10110926 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TSB WAS NOT RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO LYNNES HYUNDAI LOCATED AT 401 BLOOMFIELD AVE, BLOOMFIELD, NJ 07003, AND STATED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THEY WERE WAITING FOR A DECISION FROM THE MANUFACTURER TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. AROUND THE SAME TIME, THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V226000 (ENGINE) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE THE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY HAD ALREADY DECIDED THAT THE DEALER WAS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
I WAS DRIVING 65 MPH ON THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY SOUTHBOUND IN THE MIDDLE LANE RETURNING HOME FROM YANKEE STADIUM. WITHOUT ANY WARNING MY CAR LOST ALL POWER AND WAS BARELY ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY AVOIDING SEVERAL CARS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. SEVEN WEEKS LATER I AM STILL AWAITING CAR REPAIRS FROM CIRCLE HYUNDAI IN SHREWSBURY NJ AND A COST OF OVER $400. MY ENGINE FAILED WITH BARELY 20,000 MILES.
I HEARD A VERY LOUD NOISE FROM MY SONATA (SOUNDED LIKE AN ENGINE ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF AGO. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO MY FIRESTONE SERVICE CENTER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THEY COULD NOT FIND THE ENGINE NOISE WHEN INSPECTED BUT POINTED OUT THAT THIS ENGINE WAS UNDER A RECALL BY HYUNDAI. I THEN EXPERIENCED THE NOISE AGAIN AFTER THE FIRESTONE VISIT AND THE CAR WAS TAKEN INTO DCN HYUNDAI IN SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ. THEY WERE ABLE TO BILL ME NEARLY $300 FOR BRAKE SERVICE, BUT SAID THEY HEARD NO ENGINE NOISE...AND DENIED THAT THE CAR WAS UNDER A RECALL. LO AND BEHOLD, I FOUND IN MY MAILBOX ON FRIDAY 6/9 AN (INTERIM) RECALL NOTICE. IN READING THE RECALL NOTICE RECEIVED IN THE MAIL (AND SUBSEQUENT REPORTS I THEN FOUND ON THE INTERNET), THE WAY I DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT DCN MATCHES VERY, VERY CLOSELY TO THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN THE NOTICES RECEIVED AND FOUND ON LINE. AFTER CALLING THE HYUNDAI DEALER TO ASK THEM WHAT TO DO WITH THE CAR, I WAS DISMISSED WITH A STATEMENT THAT "EVERYBODY GETS THAT NOTICE". I SPOKE WITH SOMEONE NAMED "HARVEY" WHO WAS IDENTIFIED AS THE SERVICE MANAGER. IN A SECOND, SOMEWHAT CONTENTIOUS CALL MY HUSBAND MADE TO "HARVEY", HE WAS AGAIN TOLD THAT THIS IS AN INTERIM NOTICE AND THERE WAS NOTHING DCN WOULD OR COULD DO TO HELP. THIS IS DESPITE THE FACT THAT I HAD BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE ALREADY REPORTING THE ISSUE ALMOST EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN THE NOTICE AND ON LINE. "HARVEY" DECLINED TO GIVE HIS LAST NAME WHICH WAS REQUESTED FOR PROPER DOCUMENTATION PURPOSES. HE DID SAY THAT HE WAS AN ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER. HE WOULD NOT SUPPLY THE NAME OF HIS MANAGER OR ANY OTHER DEALER MANAGEMENT WHICH, AGAIN, WAS REQUESTED SO THAT THIS EXPERIENCE COULD BE PROPERLY DOCUMENTED. FOLLOW UP CALL MADE TO HYUNDAI CORPORATE WAS ANSWERED WITH A REQUEST TO BRING THE CAR TO ANOTHER HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP, OTHER THAN DCN, FOR INSPECTION.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE SUPERIOR HYUNDAI DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE A REMEDY FOR THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLUTCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT PROVIDED.
I HAVE A 2013 HYUNDAI, VIN: [XXX], THAT HAD A RECALL ON THE ENGINE FOR POSSIBILITY OF SEIZING UP. IT JUST SO HAPPENED THAT IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED LAST WEEK (THURSDAY, JUNE 8, 2017). I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO ANTWERPEN HYUNDAI, 6440 BALTIMORE NATIONAL PIKE, CATONSVILLE, MD 21228 WHERE I HAVE BEEN HAVING THE CAR SERVICED. THEY HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET A RESOLUTION FROM HYUNDAI SINCE THAT TIME BUT HAVE NOT HAD SUCCESS. I DO NOT HAVE TRANSPORTATION TO GET TO WORK, MY CHILDREN TO THEIR APPOINTED PLACES, ETC AND NO ONE HAS AUTHORIZED ME A RENTAL CAR OR LOANER CAR. I?M GETTING VERY DISTRAUGHT AT THIS TIME DUE TO LACK OF CONCERN FOR MY WELL BEING WHEN THE CAR?S PROBLEM IS CLEARLY A PROBLEM WITH MANUFACTURING AS THE CAR ONLY HAS 43,000 MILES ON IT AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NELLEY HYUNDAI WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE HYUNDAI MOTOR CLUB DENIED THE CLAIM. THE CONTACT ALSO INFORMED THE MANUFACTURER OF THE SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE 2015 MODELS. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT NHTSA WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR ISSUING TSB'S AND WAS ADVISED TO CALL NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,036.
VEHICLE DOES NOT RECOGNIZE EITHER KEY FOB AND WILL NOT START JUST GOES INTO ACCESSORY MODE. WHEN PLACING FOOT ON BRAKE PAD IT IS EXTREMELY HARD. YET EVERY TIME WE LET VEHICLE DRIFT DOWN OUR DRIVEWAY AND GET LEVEL IT STARTS NO PROBLEM. WE ARE WORRIED WHEN OUR DAUGHTER IS DRIVING THE VEHICLE IT WON'T RECOGNIZE THE KEY FOB AND SHUT DOWN. IT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 5 TIMES
MY CAR HAS HAD INCREASED METALLIC ENGINE NOISE WHILE STATIONARY, IN MOTION, ON A CITY STREET OR A HIGHWAY THAT INCREASES IN SOUND WHEN ACCELERATING. I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE SAID THAT EVERYTHING SOUNDS FINE THOUGH YOU CLEARLY HEAR THE ENGINE DOES NOT SOUND RIGHT. THREE WEEKS AGO, A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN MY CAR. I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO A HYUNDAI CERTIFIED DEALERSHIP. THEY DID WORK ON IT AND SAID MY CAR WAS FIXED. I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON ABOUT 12 HOURS LATER. ON THE SECOND VISIT, ALL THEY DID WAS 'CLEAR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT' AND TOLD ME TO DRIVE IT AROUND FOR A COUPLE DAYS THAT IF THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON TO BRING MY CAR IN AGAIN. THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON THE NEXT DAY. I BROUGHT MY CAR BACK IN AND THEY STILL HAVE IT AT THE DEALERSHIP TO THIS DAY 6/23/17. THE ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE A METALLIC KNOCKING AND IS HESITANT TO DRIVE AT TIMES. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY CAR FOR ABOUT 11 TOTAL DAYS WHILE THE DEALERSHIP DRIVES IT AROUND AND TRIES TO FIGURE OUT WHY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. THIS LAST VISIT LEFT ME WITHOUT MY CAR (CURRENTLY IN A RENTAL THE DEALERSHIP PROVIDED) FOR OVER SEVEN CONSECUTIVE DAYS. THEY HAVE IGNORED MY COMPLAINTS THAT I HAVE ENGINE NOISE AND SAID MY ENGINE SOUNDS NORMAL EVEN THOUGH OTHER HYUNDAI SONATAS OR ANY OTHER HYUNDAI VEHICLE WITH THE SAME 2.4L ENGINE 'NOT AFFECTED BY THE 162 RECALL SOUNDS VERY DIFFERENT FROM MINE. I DROPPED MY CAR OFF THERE ON 6/15/17 FOR THE THIRD TIME TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE BY CERTIFIED HYUNDAI MECHANICS. THEY HAVE NOT FIXED MY CAR AND HAVE NOT OFFERED TO REPLACE MY ENGINE EVEN THOUGH MY ENGINE IS PART OF RECALL 'NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V-226 ' HYUNDAI CAMPAIGN162'. I ATTACHED THE ORIGINAL RECEIPT OF WORK DONE THEY CLAIMED WAS SUPPOSED TO FIX MY CAR, WHICH DID NOT.
The tail lights in this car are constantly burning out. We have to replace them about every month or two. It’s either one side or the other and it has happened so many times since we had the car it’s ridiculous
CAR WAS PURCHASED ON APRIL 17TH 2017 , ON JUNE 6TH 2017 THE ENGINE MADE NOISE AND SEIZED UP ,THE DEALER WANTS ME TO PAY FOR A NEW ENGINE , WHEN THERE IS A MAJOR ENGINE RECALL .
I'M NOT HAPPY WITH MY HYUNDAI SONATA 2013, MY FIRST RECALL WAS MY SEATBEALTS AND MY CURRENT SECOND RECALL IS ABOUT A MALFUNCTION IN THE ENGINE. I DRIVE EVERYDAY WITH 2 LITTLE KIDS IN THE CAR I DO NOT FEEL SAFE ANYMORE. I DO HEAR A WEIRD SOUND WHEN I PRESS ON THE BRAKES.. BROUGHT TO PLANET HYUNDAI IN LV & BRONCO MOTORS IN ID FOR DIAGNOSTIC AS TO WHILE TIRES WEARING SO FAST. NO SOLUTION OTHER THEN TO BUY NEW TIRES. HAVE BEEN BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN TIRE COMPANY AND HYUNDAI. EVEN REACHED OUT TO HYUNDAI AMERICA. NO ALIGNMENT ISSUES, WAS TOLD NO SUSPENSION ISSUES. TIRES FEATHERING, CUPPING. BECOMING SAFETY CONCERN AND COULD BE A HUGE DENT IN MY WALLET REPLACING TIRES EVERY 10-14K MILES.
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND NOTICED THE CAR RUNNING FUNNY AND RPMS WERE AT 4000 INSTEAD OF THE USUAL 2000. WHEN I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR I HEARD A WEIRD NOISE LIKE SOMETHING FLAPPING IN THE WIND. GAVE IT GAS, NOISE WENT AWAY. NO WARNING LIGHTS, NOT OVERHEATING. AFTER ABOUT 3 MILES THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I IMMEDIATELY ATTEMPTED TO GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND THE CAR DIED WITHIN 30 SECONDS OF THE LIGHT COMING ON. PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND COASTED TO A SAFE PARKING PLACE. CHECKED THE OIL, THE COOLANT, ALL WAS GOOD. NOTHING WAS LEAKING, NO SMOKE. I TRIED TO START THE CAR AND IT STARTED WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND DIED. WOULDNT TURN OVER AFTER THAT. SHOP CALLED AND SAID THE ENGINE SEIZED. NOW ITS AT THE DEALERSHIP WAITING TO SEE WHAT THE NEXT STEP IS.
