THE FRONT LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS ON MY 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA. MY VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER BY A POLICE OFFICER ON FEBRUARY 8, 2017 FOR MY BRAKE LIGHTS BEING OUT. THE OFFICER WAS NICE ENOUGH TO WRITE A WARNING TICKET AND SAID THAT THE LIGHTS NEEDED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY ON BOTH SIDES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY ATTEMPTED TO TRY TO PUT THE BULBS IN; HOWEVER, THE CASING WAS MELTED AND IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO INSERT THE BULBS BACK INTO THE CASING. I ASKED WHAT WOULD CAUSE THE CASING TO MELT AND WAS NOT GIVEN A DEFINITIVE ANSWER. AFTER READING OTHER REVIEWS ON THE INTERNET, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH OTHER CONSUMERS. THIS REPAIR IS NOT DUE TO ANY WEAR AND TEAR ON BEHALF OF THE CONSUMER. MY CONCERN IS THAT IF THE BRAKE CASING IS MELTING, IT IS APPARENTLY GETTING HOT AND NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHY. THE BULB CASING MAY CONTINUE TO MELT AND COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE A FIRE. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI'S CORPORATE OFFICE AND EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS. I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS NOT CURRENTLY A RECALL ON THE BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY. I AM REACHING OUT TO EVERYONE WITH THIS ISSUE TO SUBMIT A FORMAL COMPLAINT SO THAT THIS ISSUE CAN BE ADDRESSED. THE REPAIR IS COSTLY ($580.00 FOR BOTH SIDES), IT IS AN ONGOING ISSUE OF REPLACING LIGHT BULBS ON THE VEHICLE, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY-THE MELTING OR THE REASON FOR THE MELTING MAY CAUSE A FIRE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. IN ADDITION, AN UNKNOWN CLUNKING SOUND EMITTED FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WERE METAL SHAVINGS PRESENT INSIDE THE OIL PAN AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR REBUILT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
ENGINE IS MAKING WEIRD KNOCKING NOISE. ALSO IS USING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. I HAVE TO KEEP EXTRA OIL TO MAKE SURE IT DOES RUN COMPLETELY OUT. NO WARNING LIGHTS COME ON TO ALERT YOU OF LOW OIL PRESSURE. STEERING WHEEL 'STICKS' LIKE IT IS TRYING TO AUTO CORRECT WHILE DRIVING. HAPPENING MORE OFTEN, WHICH MAKES IT SCARY/DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. PURCHASED CAR JUNE 2016.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASING MY 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA, LE, 2.0 T, IN SEPTEMBER 2013, THE STEERING MECHANISM DISPLAYED SLACK AND A CLICKING, THUMPING NOISE WHEN IN 'DRIVE' OR 'PARK' POSITION , AND WHENEVER PRODDING THE STEERING WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO THE HYUNDAI OF LONG ISLAND CITY DEALERSHIP, WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT, AND WAS DISMISSIVELY TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL DUE TO "VEHICLE'S SOPHISTICATED ELECTRONIC STEERING". OVER ENSUING YEARS, AND WHILE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER ITS 5-YEAR/60,000 MILE WARRANTY, THE PROBLEM BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE, EVENTUALLY LEADING TO REPLACEMENT OF ITS DAMAGED 'FLEXIBLE STEERING COUPLING' [PART 56315-2K000-FFF] ON 08/27/19, BUT SAID REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT PERSISTENT STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY PROBLEM, NECESSITATING REPLACEMENT PART 56500-3Q400! RESPECTFULLY, I BELIEVE THIS PREVALENT, ONGOING STEERING GEAR PROBLEM SHOULD BECOME AN NHTSA 'RECALL' OR A HYUNDAI TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB), SINCE THOUSANDS OF HYUNDAI SONATA OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM, MANY PAST THEIR WARRANTY PERIODS, WHICH IS EXACTLY HOW THE COMMON 'FLEXIBLE STEERING COUPLING' DEFECT RECENTLY BECAME A TSB, AND WHY SUCH REPAIRS ARE NOW BEING MADE AND HONORED ON CERTAIN VEHICLES PAST THEIR WARRANTY PERIODS. I BELIEVE THAT MY STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROPERLY ADDRESSED WHEN I FIRST PRESENTED THE ISSUE TO THE DEALERSHIP, BACK IN 2013, AND WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER ITS WARRANTY! PLEASE HELP US INVESTIGATE THIS VEHICLE'S SERIOUS, WIDESPREAD MECHANICAL DESIGN/MANUFACTURING PROBLEM, AND PLEASE ORDER OR CONVINCE HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA TO COVER THIS REPAIR OF APPROXIMATELY $1,200, BEYOND ITS WARRANTY. AS MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET AND THE NHSTA SITE MY SONATA MAKES A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE 2011 SONATA WAS RECALLED. WHY ARE THE LATER YEARS NOT WHEN APPARENTLY THE SAME ISSUE EXISTS. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED BY THE MANUFACTURER. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS WILL IT TAKE FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO TAKE ACTION? HOW MANY DEATHS? THE NOISE IS MADE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT.
WHEN I START MY CAR, PUT IT IN DRIVE, AND PROCEED, THE CAR WILL JERL.AS.IFNITS STRUGGLING TO CHANGE GEARS.IT USUALLY STOPS AFTER A MINUTE OR SO. IT DOESNT ALWAYS HAPPEN, BUT ITS OCCURED TWICE TODAY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FINALLY CAME ON. IM UP TO DATE ON MY OIL CHANGES, HAVE HAD MY TRANSMISSION FLUIDS FLUSHED AND THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. IT SHOWS THAT THERE ARE NO ACTIVE RECALLS, HOWEVER IVE HEARD FROM NUMEROUS PEOPLE THAT THESE CARS ARE KNOWN FOR ENGINE PROBLEMS.
TAKATA RECALL , MY LIGHT BULBS SEEM TO BLOW OUT MORE THAN USUAL ON MY CAR AND ON THE PASSENGER SIDE THE BAKE BRAKE LIGHT BULB BLEW OUT AND I WENT TO REPLACE IT AND I HAD TROUBLE REMOVING THE BULB BECAUSE IT HAD MELTED THE AREA THAT YOU STICK THE BULB INSIDE OF I'M WORRIED THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE WIRING AND I'M SURE THIS IS HAPPENING AT ANYTIME MY LIGHTS OR ON. *TR
I TOOK IN FOR BRAKES AFTER HAVING IT ONLY 3 MONTHS. I ALMOST GOT IN ACCIDENT BECAUSE BRAKES FAILED. AMCO TOLD ME IT WAS THE CALIBERS AND SAID IT WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT BECAUSE AFTER CHANGING PADS, THE CALIBER WAS STUCK AND WOULD NOT CLOSE. HE SAID VEHICLE WAS TOO KNEW FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. IT HAD TO BE FIXED BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE SO IT WAS FIXED FOR $900. WANT TO REPORT AS SAFETY ISSUE. COULD HAVE CAUSED MULTI VEHICLE CRASH.
STEERING COUPLER WORN OUT AFTER JUST 103,000 MILES . WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE ISSUE WAS . THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL IDENTICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE SONATA . THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IN A NATION WIDE RECALL
AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE CAR WILL NOT TRACK TO CENTER, YOU MUST ADJUST TO ROAD. THE STEERING WHEEL IS STIFF AND YOU MUST ADJUST AGAINST THE RESISTANCE ON THE WHEEL AT HIGHWAY SPEED, WHICH IS SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. IT HAS ELECTRIC STEERING. IT IS LISTED AT VARIOUS WEBSITES AS A PROBLEM. WE FEAR FOR OUR SAFETY. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED LAST YEAR ON THE TRACKING ISSUE AND STARTING IN JANUARY 2017 THE STEERING WHEEL IS HARD TO TURN, IT STICKS. THIS IS THE TERM USED IN OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THERE HAS BEEN SOME ACCIDENTS AND ONE FATALITY. SOME PEOPLE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS INFO WAS ON THE ON THE INTERNET.
THERE WAS A LOUD CLICKING NOISE AND WHEN TAKING OUR CAR IN THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AT THE TIME. ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS A HORRIBLE LOUD KNOCKING NOISE AND THEN THERE SEEM TO BE NO POWER WHEN TRYING TO DRIVE IT. WHEN HAVING A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT THEY SAID THAT THE PISTON WAS LOSE AND ALSO IT LOOKED LIKE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FLOW OF THE OIL THAT WAS GOING IN TO THE ENGINE. BASICALLY HE SAID THE BEARING FAILED AND THAT'S WHY OUR CAR STALLED. LUCKILY IT STALLED WHILE WE WERE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. HIS CONCLUSION WAS THAT WE WOULD NEED A COMPLETELY NEW ENGINE. IT HASN'T BEEN DRIVABLE FOR MONTHS NOW. WE CAN'T AFFORD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE.
MY LIGHT BULBS AND THE ASSEMBLY ARE MELTING AND GOING OUT. FOR THE LAST 9 MONTHS
WHILE DRIVING, THE FRONT COIL SPRING FRACTURED, WHICH RESULTED IN THE BROKEN COIL PUNCTURING THE TIRE. THIS OCCURRED ON A WINDING COUNTRY ROAD AROUND A HAIRPIN TURN AT 6PM IN THE EVENING. HOWARD COUNTY POLICE WERE CALLED UNTIL A TOW TRUCK ARRIVED DUE TO THE DANGER PRESENTED BY THE ROAD. AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIANS CONFIRMED THIS WAS THE CAUSE OF THE DAMAGED TIRE. THERE WAS A PREVIOUS RECALL ON 2011 HYUNDAI SONATAS AND ELANTRAS FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM (RECALL 15V629000). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE LEFT. THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RESTRAIN AND THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A WALL. THE PLASTIC PIECE FRACTURED FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT, WHICH COMPLETELY DETACHED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MULTIPLE INJURIES FROM THE CRASH THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. IT WAS NOT CERTAIN AS TO WHETHER THE AIR BAGS FULLY DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS EXTENSIVELY DAMAGED AND THE CONTACT WAS WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER TO FURTHER INVESTIGATE HOW THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE HEADLIGHTS KEEP GOING OUT. THE TAILLIGHTS KEEP GOING OUT BECAUSE THE BULB OVER YEARS AND MELTS THE SOCKET DUE TO ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS
I HAVE TO CHANGE TAIL LIGHTS EVERY MONTH. NOW A NEW ASSEMBLY IS REQUIRED BECAUSE THE BLOWN BULB HAS MELTED IT. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND I'M TRYING TO AVOID TICKETS AND COURT IF POSSIBLE. ALSO THERE'S A SHORTAGE IN THE WIRING.
MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE CONSTANTLY BLOWING OUT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE REPLACED THE LIGHT SEVERAL TIMES. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR TO HAVE THEM INSPECT THE PROBLEM. THEY FOUND THAT THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUES AND WILL COST A COUPLE HUNDRED TO REPAIR, WHICH AT THIS TIME I CAN'T AFFORD. SINCE THE DIAGNOSIS I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS SAME MODEL CARS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE EVEN SPOKEN TO A COUPLE OWNERS WHO HAVE EXPRESSED THEIR FRUSTRATION. THIS NEEDS FURTHER INVESTIGATION AND TO BE RECALLED
THE STEERING WHEEL CONTINUES TO STICK WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. YOU HAVE TO LITERALLY TUG ON THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN TAKING CURVES ON THE HIGHWAY. IT BEGAN TO MAKE ME FEEL UNSAFE WHILE DRIVING BECAUSE OF HOW DIFFICULT IT HAD BECOME TRYING TO STRAIGHTEN THE WHEEL AFTER THE CURVES. I KNOW THAT A PLASTIC PART BROKE BEFORE, AND THE DEALERSHIP FIXED IT WITH A METAL PART, NOT SURE IF IT IS THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,600.
I BOUGHT A USED 2013 SONATA WITH ONLY 15 K MILES ON IT. THE CAR LOOKED PERFECT. SINCE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING A 96 TACOMA FOR 12 YRS. I ASSUMED I WAS NOT USED TO ELECTRONIC STEERING. IF THIS IS THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE, COUNT ME OUT. I CAN'T KEEP THIS CAR IN MY LANE TO SAVE MY LIFE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR MY RETIREMENT SO I COULD DO SOME CROSS COUNTRY TRIPS, BUT I DON'T SEE THAT HAPPENING ANY TIME SOON. I GUESS I'LL RENT. *TR
WHILE CAR WAS ACCELERATING ON THE INTERSTATE A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE BEGAN. THE ENGINE NOISE CONTINUED TO GROW. I STOPPED MOMENTARILY FOR AN APPOINTMENT PRAYING THE CAR WOULD START. WHEN I CAME BACK OUT IT DID RESTART BUT THE ENGINE NOISE WAS WORSE, I CALLED THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP & DESCRIBED THE SITUATION. I INFORMED THEM I WOULD BE DRIVING THE CAR TO THEM. NOT ONCE DID THEY MENTION ENGINES SEIZING IN THIS MAKE! I PROCEEDED TO GET BACK ON THE INTERSTATE AND ACCELERATE WITH INCREASING KNOCKING OF THE ENGINE. THE CAR THEN STRUGGLED TO ACCELERATE, AND ALL DASH LIGHTS BLINKED, THEN SHUT COMPLETELY DOWN AND STARTED SMOKING. I HAD TO COAST THE CAR OFF OF THE VERY BUSY & DANGEROUS INTERSTATE. NOT SAFE AT ALL! THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON. THE CAR WAS TOWED BY AAA TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I'M STILL WAITING TO HEAR FROM THEM. *TR
I WAS SOLD A CAR WITH A DANGEROUS RECALL INCOMPLETE - HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY (HYUNDAI) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011-2014 SONATA VEHICLES MANUFACTURED DECEMBER 11, 2009, THROUGH MAY 29, 2014. IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE MAY DETACH FROM FROM THE SHIFT LEVER PIN. IF THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE DETACHES, THE TRANSMISSION GEAR SELECTION MAY NOT MATCH THE INDICATED GEAR AND THE VEHICLE MAY MOVE IN AN UNINTENDED OR UNEXPECTED DIRECTION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. FURTHERMORE, WHEN THE DRIVER PARKS THE VEHICLE, DESPITE SELECTING THE 'PARK' POSITION, THE TRANSMISSION MAY NOT BE IN 'PARK.' IF THE VEHICLE IS NOT IN THE 'PARK' POSITION AND THE PARKING BRAKE IS NOT APPLIED, THERE IS A RISK THE VEHICLE WILL ROLL AWAY AS THE DRIVER AND OTHER OCCUPANTS EXIT THE VEHICLE OR ANYTIME THEREAFTER. A VEHICLE ROLLAWAY INCREASES THE RISK OF INJURY TO EXITING OCCUPANTS AND BYSTANDERS.
UPON START UP THE VEHICLE IS PRETTY LOUD TO BE FAIRLY NEW, THE NOISE INCREASED BY DAY. BRAKES WOULD GRIND. NO CONTROL OVER STEERING CAR WOULD PULL AND DRIFT AS DRIVING. REMOTE BARELY WORKED RADIO WOULD RANDOMLY INCREASE AND DECREASE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-633-5151 AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. CASE NUMBER: 10261518 WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,684. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BURNS HYUNDAI (550 W RTE 70, EVESHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ 08053) WHERE IT WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V226000 (ENGINE) AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V434000 (POWER TRAIN). AFTERWARDS, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING, THE CONTACT NOTED EXCESSIVE VIBRATION IN THE ENGINE AREA AND HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH BURNS HYUNDAI AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIBRATION WAS NORMAL; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIBRATION WAS NOT NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,560.
ALTHOUGH MY VIN WAS NOT IDENTIFIED IN THE HYUNDAI SONATA DRIVE TRAIN RECALL, I AM REPORTING WHAT I BELIEVE IS RELATED TO THAT RECALL. ON WEDS., DEC. 14, 2016, WHILE TAKING MY MOTHER TO A DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT, I STOPPED MY VEHICLE BY THE BUILDING ENTRANCE TO ASSIST HER. I PLACED THE CAR IN PARK AND ENGAGED THE PARKING BRAKE. AS I WAS GETTING OUT OF THE DRIVER'S-SIDE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MOVE. IN AN EFFORT TO REACH THE BRAKE PEDAL, MY RIGHT LEG BECAME TRAPPED IN THE DRIVER'S DOOR AS THE CAR ROLLED AWAY. MY CAR TRAVELED ABOUT 50 FEET BEFORE ROLLING INTO A PARKED CAR WHICH CLOSED THE DOOR ON MY UPPER LEG ACROSS THE FEMUR. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD, STRIKING ANOTHER PARKED CAR, WHICH STOPPED THE FORWARD MOTION BUT KEPT MY BODY TRAPPED BY THE DOOR. ONLY WHEN SOMEONE CLIMBED INTO THE CAR AND REVERSED IT WAS MY LEG RELEASED. APPARENTLY I WAS HOLDING ON TO THE DOOR FRAME WITH MY RIGHT HAND/ARM BECAUSE MY THUMB AND PALM ARE ALSO SWOLLEN AND MY FOREARM IS BRUISED. I HAVE TO CONTACT AN ORTHOPEDIC FOR A FOLLOW-UP ASSESSMENT. THE EMT'S TOLD ME I WAS VERY LUCKY; USUALLY WHEN SOMEONE IS IN THIS SITUATION, THEY END-UP UNDER THE CAR.

MY STEERING WHEEL HAS A CLICKING NOISE AS I TURN THE WHEEL WHICH IS VERY ANNOYING. I WENT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT IS A STEERING COLUMN COUPER THAT IS WORN DOWN. THE DEALERSHIP IS IN PROCESS OF SEEING IF HYUNDAI WILL REPLACE THE SMALL DEVICE. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL SINCE HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE THIS COMPLAINT. SO FAR, I CAUGHT IT EARLY AND IT DOES NOT SHAKE YET LIKE SOME.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, WHETHER IT BE ON THE HIGHWAY OR CITY STREETS, THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS AT THE CENTER POSITION AND IT NEEDS TO BE TUGGED ON TO GET IT TO MOVE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

WHEN THE WHEEL IS CENTERED IT FEELS "STICKY", WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO JERK TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT AS CORRECTIONS ARE NEEDED TO STAY CENTERED. THE INFAMOUS STEERING COUPLER HAS BEEN REPLACED WHEN IT WAS AT ITS' WORST. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO TAMERON HYUNDAI IN HOOVER, AL AND THE STEERING MODE WAS SET TO GLS, BUT DID NOT IMPROVE STEERING. I TOOK THE CAR BACK A SECOND TIME TO BE EVALUATED, AND THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN DEEMED IT "NORMAL OPERATION".

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD WHERE IT WAS DEEMED DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 61,000.

LIKE MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS I'VE READ RECENTLY, I AM ALSO HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA STEERING. WHEN DRIVING OVER 60 MPH THE STEERING DOESN'T CENTER, INSTEAD THE CAR WANDERS TO THE LEFT, THERE IS A BLANK SPACE IN THE STEERING, AND WHEN YOU GO TO TURN RIGHT IT DOESN'T CATCH RIGHT AWAY, THEN OVER-CORRECTS, WHICH THEN CAUSES YOU TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL THE OTHER DIRECTION, SO IT'S A CONSTANT, EXHAUSTING BATTLE WHILE DRIVING. MY FOREARMS GET TIRED. IT WAS BARELY NOTICEABLE WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED THE CAR USED WITH LOW MILEAGE. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS MY IMAGINATION, BUT NOW IT'S WORSE AND TIRING. CURRENT MILEAGE 25,000. I TOOK IT IN TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP (WHO IS GREAT) AND THEY SAID EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE BEEN READING PREVIOUSLY, THAT IT'S THE ELECTRONIC STEERING SYSTEM INSTEAD OF HYDRAULIC, THAT THERE ISN'T MUCH THEY CAN DO, AND TO GET USED TO IT. THEY DID TRY, AND REPROGRAMMED THE CAR TO THE SPORT STEERING MODE, WHICH DOES HELP THE OVERALL HANDLING OF THE CAR, WHICH I APPRECIATED, BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. THEY SAID THERE IS NO IMMINENT DANGER, WHICH I WAS RELIEVED TO HEAR, BUT DRIVING LONG DISTANCES DOES NOT EXCITE ME ANY LONGER. I'M AFRAID THIS COULD BE DAMAGING FOR HYUNDAI AS THE COMPLAINTS ARE STARTING TO STACK UP. IT SOUNDS LIKE A RECALL FOR THE STEERING COUPLER NEEDS TO HAPPEN, BUT I HOPE BY REGISTERING MY COMPLAINT, SOMETHING MAY GET DONE ABOUT IT. ALSO, THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS WHEN DRIVING HIGHER SPEEDS SO WHEN YOU ATTEMPT TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT YOU HAVE TO PULL HARDER AND THEN END UP OVER CORRECTING. DEALER TOLD ME IT'S JUST THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING AND IT TAKES SOME GETTING USED TO. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS EXCUSE AND IT'S VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE HIGHWAYS AND INTERSTATE. YESTERDAY I HAD TO DRIVE IT IN HIGH WINDS AND IT WAS A NIGHTMARE JUST TO KEEP IT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LANE. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 35,000 MILES ON IT. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO STEP UP AND FIX THIS ISSUE BEFORE MORE ACCIDENTS START HAPPENING. AFTER NOTICING THE ISSUE AND GOOGLING THE PROBLEM THERE ARE FORUMS ALL OF WITH SIMILAR ISSUES.

DEALER WANTS $220.00 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM WHEN DIAGNOSED TODAY.
