ON APRIL 18, 2016, WHILE PULLING INTO A HANDICAPPED PARKING SPOT, I WAS ALMOST PARKED WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED ROARING LIKE IT WAS REVVED UP. MY CAR WENT OVER THE PARKING BARRIER AND UP THE HANDICAPPED POLE AND OVER ON HOOD OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I HAVE BEEN WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY 39 YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT. I AM A VERY SAFE DRIVER . I AM A TRUTHFUL AND RESPONSIBLE PERSON.
HEADLIGHTS FLICKER WHILE DRIVING. THEY ARE GETTING WORSE AS THEY ARE CUTTING COMPLETELY OFF DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. SOME TIMES IT WILL EVEN DIM OR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF THE INTERIOR LIGHTS.THE LIGHTS CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN. I'VE HAD IT IN SERVICE 3 OR 4 TIMES AND THEY CAN NOT SEEM TO FIND THE PROBLEM. THE DAY I BOUGHT THE CAR ON THE WAY HOME IS THE FIRST TIME I NOTICED AND CALLED IT IN FOR REPAIR. THEY HAVE SINCE THEN REPLACED THE BATTERY AND THE ALTERNATOR IN ATTEMPT TO FIX THE PROBLEM WHICH NONE OF THIS HAS SUCCESSFULLY HELPED. THE CAR DOES THIS MAINLY WHILE DRIVING, BUT SOMETIMES WHILE IN A STATIONARY POSITION. MY JOB REQUIRES ME TO WORK NIGHTS WHICH I CAN NOT EVEN DRIVE MY CAR FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE IN THE FEAR OF CAUSING A WRECK AND POSSIBLY INJURING SOMEONE OR MYSELF. I HAD A VIDEO TO SHARE, BUT ITS NOT IN THE RIGHT FORMAT SO IT WILL NOT LET ME POST. PLEASE HELP ME FIND THE SOLUTION TO THIS.
WHEN I WENT TO PARK THE CAR AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF THE HORN BEGAN TO HONK AS I TRIED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE HAZARD LIGHTS WHERE FLASHING AT THE SAME TIME THE HORN WAS HONKING. I RE EBTERED THE VEHICLE AND TRIED STICKING THE KEY BACK IN THE IGNITION. NO SOUND FROM THE ENGINE AT ALL. WOULD NOT TURN ON. I ADJUSTED THE GEARS WITH THE KEY & LET IT SIT FOR 40 MINUTES. I WAS THEN ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE. SO ANNOYING AND STRESSFUL. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS WAS ELECTRICAL OR WHAT BUT IT WAS CERTAINTLY NOT THE BATTERY. ALL THE LIGHTS IN THE VEHICLE CAME ON EVEN THE RADIO. FOUR DAYS AGO I HAD FUSES REPLACED FOR THE RADIO AND THE DOOR LOCKS. I DON'T KNOW IF THE VEHICLE NOT TURNING OVER/ON/STARTING HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE FUSES BEING REPLACED OR NOT. MILEAGE 74,000.
HAD ABOUT A MONTH WITH HOW THE CAR ACCELARATED. THE CAR MADE A LOT OF NOISE THEN THE OIL LIGHT WOULD GO ON. FINALLY ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO, BROUGHT THE CAR IN DUE TO AN ENGINE LIGHT, AND WAS TOLD THE ENGINE IS BURNING OIL, I KNEW THAT BC I WAS ADDING OIL. WAS TOLD JUST TODAY THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED YESTERDAY AFTER I DROPPED IT OFF AND NOW I NEED TO PAY FOR IT. DID I MENTION THIS IS A LEASE AND ITS ONLY 42,000 MILES ON IT? NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAVE NO CAR IN A RENTAL I HAVE TO PAY FOR. SPOKE TO A FEW MECHANICS AND WAS TOLD ITS AN ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. GREAT! BUT NOW IM STUCK W THE BILL OF THE ENGINE OR THE EARLY RETURN LEASE BC THE CAR IS UNDRIVEABLE!!!
PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, I HAD NOT PUT THE CAR INTO 'PARK" YET AND IT ACCELERATED AND JUMPED THE CURB AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE ENGINE RACED. A WITNESS SAW IT/HEARD IT HAPPEN AND STAYED UNTIL POLICE ARRIVED. SHE DID PROVIDE HER PHONE NUMBER FOR VERIFICATION. THE ACCIDENT CAUSED $8300. DAMAGE. THE REPAIR SHOP WOULD HAVE TOTALED THE CAR IF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED BUT THEY DID NOT. ATTACHED ARE PICTURES OF THE DAMAGE AND THE POLICE REPORT. THIS IS THE FOURTH HYUNDAI CAR WE HAVE PURCHASED AND NOT QUESTION THE SAFETY OF THEIR VEHICLES.
I HAVE HAD 5 OR 6 INSTANCES WHERE THE AUTOSTART IGNITION DOES NOT WORK WHEN ATTEMPTING TO CRANK IN STATIONARY POSITION WHILE IN PARK. I CAN USUALLY MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AROUND A FEW TIMES. OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR AND SOME OTHER TRICKS TO GET IT TO WORK BUT THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM AND MY DEALER NEVER STEPS UP TO THE PLATE TO HELP WITH SOLUTIONS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, A KNOCKING TYPE NOISE WAS PRESENT COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND THE ENGINE WOULD SOMETIMES STALL WHEN ACCELERATING. IN ADDITION, SMOKE WAS PRESENT UNDER THE HOOD DUE TO BURNING OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE BEARINGS WERE DAMAGED AND THE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. UPDATED 08/04/17*LJ *CN
THE GAS PEDAL AND THE BRAKE ARE VERY CLOSE TO EACH OTHER ON THIS CAR. IT IS VERY EASY WHEN VIEWING BLIND SPOTS DURING BACKING TO ACCIDENTALLY HAVE THE FOOT DEPRESS THE BRAKE AND THE GAS PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME. I HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME SO FAR 2 TIMES.
ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR A YEAR. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING AND CAR DIED. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO SOUTHERN STATE HYUNDAI IN RALEIGH NC AND WAS TOLD COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. 10 YEAR 100,000 MILE. RAN THROUGH HYUNDAI CORPORATE AND CLAIM DENIED. WARRANTY WON'T COVER IT AS THEY STATED THEY FOUND SLUDGE FROM THE OIL. CAN'T GUARANTEE THIS IS WHAT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO STOP, BUT WOULD COST MORE MONEY TO TAKE ENGINE COMPLETELY APART. QUOTED $6000-7500 FOR ENGINE. THERE WAS NO WARNING WHATSOEVER, JUST KNOCKING IN THE ENGINE. WE DID 2 OIL CHANGES AT THE DEALERSHIP AND 2 OR 3 AT JIFFY LUBE, SO THEY STATE POOR MAINTENANCE ON OUR PART. THE 2011 AND 2012 ENGINES HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS SAME REASON. SO MY ENGINE FOR THE 2013 HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED BUT I AM 2 WEEKS OUT WAITING ON AN ENGINE, NO CAR AND THEY WON'T HELP PAY FOR A RENTAL.
VEHICLE WAS NOT USED FOR ABOUT 4 WEEKS IN FEBRUARY. THEN THE CAR WAS STARTED IN REVERSE WITH THE FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. PEDAL WENT MUSHY WITH LITTLE TO NO PRESSURE RESULTING BASIC LOSS OF BRAKE FUNCTION WHILE MAKING LOUD NOISES. HAD TO STOP VEHICLE WITH PARKING BRAKE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. SERVICE MANAGER DROVE VEHICLE, ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM, AND INDICATED THAT RUST HAD ACCUMULATED ON ROTORS. HE SAID HIGH/LOW SPOTS DUE TO RUST CAN RESULT IN LOSS OF BRAKE PRESSURE, AND LOUD NOISE WAS A RESULT OF BRAKE PADS RUBBING ON UNEVEN SURFACES. AFTER DEALER TECHNICIAN DROVE SEVERAL MILES AND APPLIED BRAKES, RUST WORE OFF AND BRAKE FUNCTION RETURNED. THE DEALER SERVICE MANAGER SAID THE CAR SHOULD BE DRIVEN EVERY COUPLE DAYS OR AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. HE INDICATED HE COULD TURN THE ROTORS BUT THE RUST WOULD JUST RETURN. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE IN 30 YEARS WHERE THE ROTORS ARE SO PRONE TO RUST RESULTING IN BRAKE FAILURE IF NOT DRIVEN FOR 4 WEEKS, MUCH LESS A WEEK. THANKFULLY THIS WAS NOT NOTICED AT HIGHER SPEED ON A ROAD OR THIS WAS AN ACCIDENT IN THE MAKING. I BELIEVE THERE COULD BE A ROTOR MATERIAL DESIGN OR QUALITY ISSUE THAT IS PROMOTING CORROSION AT SUCH A RAPID RATE. DEALER'S INVOICE IS ATTACHED FOR REFERENCE.
MY STEERING WHEEL IS ABOUT TO FALL OFF. TRYING TO GET THE CAR COMPANY TO COVER, BUT THEY DO NOT WANT TO. THE COUPLER I BELIEVE IN THE STEERING IS THE ISSUE. THE STEERING WHEEL MAKES NOISE AND AFFECTING THE STEERING. FIGHTING WITH THEM NOW THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOOSE AND MAKES A CLUNK NOISE WHEN TURNING OR GOING OVER BUMPS IT HAS BEEN GOING ON A MONTH OR SO
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT FAILED TO ENGAGE INTO THE PARK POSITION WITHOUT WARNING INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ROLLED SLIGHTLY BEFORE THE PARK POSITION WAS ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V434000 (POWER TRAIN). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,600.
MY BRAKE LIGHT ON THE DRIVER SIDE WENT OUT. WHILE TRYING TO CHANGE IT I FOUND IT VERY HARD TO TAKE THE BRAKE LIGHTS OUT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR. UPON FINALLY GETTING THE LIGHT BULBS OUT I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT HOUSING ON BOTH SIDES HAD MELTED AND WARPED MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO GET THE BULBS OUT. ALONG WITH THIS THE LIGHT BULBS HAD FUSED THEMSELVES INTO THEIR SOCKETS. I HAD TO BREAK THE BULBS TO GET THE COMPLETE BULB UNIT OUT OF THE SOCKET. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE NEW BULBS INTO THE SOCKET RELATIVELY EASY. HOWEVER, WHEN I TRIED TO PUT THEM BACK INTO THE BRAKE HOUSING I HAD TO FORCE THEM BACK IN. THIS HAPPENED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR. MY CONCERN IS THE HOUSING COULD MELT MORE AND IGNITE ON FIRE. I DO NOT HAVE PICTURES OF IT BUT I DO HAVE VIDEO OF THE ISSUE. I FOUND THIS OUT WHEN TRYING TO CHANGE THE BULDS IN A PARKING LOT CLOSE TO A LOCAL AUTOMOTIVE PARTS COMPANY WHERE I WORK.
I CAN BE DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE AND AS YOU NEED TO CORRECT DRIVING LINE OF CAR THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS AS IF YOU ACTUALLY FEEL IT TRY TO HOLD YOU FROM CORRECTING. IT IS ONLY FOR A SPLIT SECOND BUT THIS IS CONSTANTLY GOING ON AS YOU DRIVE DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OVER 60MPH. IT SEEMS YOU HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CORRECT LINE OF CAR MUCH MORE THAN USUAL AS IS WANTS TO DRIFT LEFT OR RIGHT. WITH THE CONSTANT CORRECTION AND STICKING (OR HANGING FEELING) IN THE STEERING WHEEL IT IS VERY AGGRAVATING AND VERY STRESSFUL ON A TRIP. I AM AFRAID THIS STICKING OF THE WHEEL MAY ALL OF A SUDDEN NOT RELEASE AND A WRECK IS LIKELY. IT ONLY HAPPENS AT SPEEDS ABOVE 60 MPH. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN AT ALL WITH AROUND TOWN DRIVING OR ON SHORT TRIPS BELOW 60 MPH. ONE HYUNDAI DEALER SERVICE REP SAID THIS IS NORMAL FOR ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING 49 YEARS AND THIS IS THE FIRST CAR I HAVE DROVE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE TALKED TO OWNERS OF OTHER CAR MANUFACTURERS WITH ELECTRIC STEERING NOT HAVING STEERING COMPLAINTS. I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED IN LATE 2014 AND HAVE PUT LESS THAN 10,000 MILES ON IT. IT NOW HAS 28,000 MILES. PUT NEW TIRES ON IT ABOUT 5,000 MILES AGO. I CONSTANTLY CHECK AIR PRESSURE AND THE FRONT END IS IN LINE. THIS STEERING PROBLEM IS A SAFETY CONCERN HYUNDAI SHOULD BE FORCED TO CORRECT BEFORE PEOPLE HAVE SERIOUS WRECKS. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN ENGINEERING DESIGN FLAW OF EITHER THE COMPUTER CONTROL, THE ELECTRICS CONTROLLING THE RACK AND PINION STEERING, OR THE RACK AND PINION STEERING ITSELF. I AM AMAZED THAT PROPER QUALITY CONTROL TESTING DIDN'T CATCH THIS PROBLEM BEFORE IT WENT INTO PRODUCTION. IT IS APPARENT THIS IS A BROAD PROBLEM BECAUSE OF THE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS POSTED ABOUT THESE SAME STEERING PROBLEMS ON MANY WEB SITES.
MY CAR BEGAN MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE. AT FIRST I THOUGHT I HAD SOMETHING CAUGHT UNDER MY CAR OR UNDER BUT AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION IT WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I CHECKED OIL AND ALL WAS FINE, GOT AN OIL CHANGE JUST TO BE SAFE BUT STILL KNOCKING. CHECKED RECALLS AND SEE THAT THEY HAVE RECALLS FOR THE ENGINE KNOCKING AND SEIZING UP FOR 2011- DEC 2012 BUT MY VIN NOT INCLUDED, I SEE OTHERS WITH 2013 AS WELL WITH SAME PROBLEMS AND ENGINES HAVE SEIZED UP. BRINGING CAR TO DEALER IN THE MORNING AND WILL FOLLOW UP WITH WHAT HAPPENS. HOPEFULLY I MAKE IT TO DEALERSHIP.
I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON INTERSTATE 95 TRAVELING AT APPROX 70 MPH WHEN I FELT A COUPLE SMALL JERKS FOLLOWED BY A TAPPING SOUND FROM THE ENGINE WHICH GOT LOUDER AND A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. I MANEUVERED TO THE SHOULDER WHERE THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. I LIFTED THE HOOD AND OIL WAS EVERYWHERE. VEHICLE WAS DISABLED, TOWED TO POHANKA HYUNDAI. THE DIAGNOSE FROM THEIR SERVICE DEPT WAS "A BLOWN ENGINE" I WAS INFORMED THAT SOMETHING"PROBABLE PISTON ROD" WENT THRU THE BLOCK AND OIL PAN AND THAT A NEW ENGINE WAS REQUIRED. UNFORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY HOWEVER, IS/WAS REGULARLY MAINTAINED, OIL CHANGED JUST 700 MILES PRIOR. THERE WAS NO PREVIOUS WARNING OF ANY ISSUES, NO TAPPING OR SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER, NO INDICATION. I DO HAVE A CUSTOMER COPY OF THE DEALERS FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATION.

I GOT IT TOWED, NONE OF THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON. ENGINE SIEZED. I SEE THAT THERE ARE RECALLS FOR THE 2011 AND 2012 SONATA'S AND MY 2013 DID THE SAME THING AS THE 2011 AND 2012 SONATA ARE DOING. I REALLY BELIEVE MY 2.0T HAD A ENGINE DEFECT. THEY TOOK OFF THE OIL PAN ANS SAW IT WAS SIEZED AND ITS THE SAME REASON THEY RECALL THE 2011 AND 2012 SONATA. THEY NEED TO CHECK TO SEE 2013 ENGINE HAVE THAT PROBLEM AS WELL. MY VEHICAL WAS MANUFACTURED IN ALABAMA IN 2012, THE SAME PLANT THAT HAD THE RECALL.

WILL NOT TRACK IN LINE WONDERS ALL OVER THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE DEALER TELLS ME THIS IS NORMAL I KNOW THIS IS NOT TRUE I HAVE CHEVY WITH ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IT DON'T ACT LIKE THE HYUNDAI.THERE ARE A LARGE NUMBER OF SONATA OWNERS WITH THIS PROBLEM
PHILADELPHIA, PA. WHILE RUNNING A FEW ERRANS MY CAR'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I DECIDED TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND START IT BACK UP. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES THE CAR DIED OUT COMPLETELY WHILE DRIV8NG. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO LET THE CAR COAST IN A SEMI SAFE PLACE. AFTER THE CAR STALLED AND BEGAN TO SMOKE THE CAR TRIED TO START MULTIPLE TIMES ON ITS OWN AND THE SMELL WAS UNLIKE ANYTHING I'VE SMELLED. IN ADDITION, I'VE BEEN BATTLINNG HYUNDAI TO SET UP MY BLUE LINK WHICH THEY DID NOT! LASTLY, I WAS ACTUALLY ABLE TO CAPTURE THIS ORDEAL ON MY DASH CAM!
2013 SONATA STARTED MAKING KNOCKING NOISE FROM ENGINE. THE NEXT DAY, TRIED DRIVING IT TO GO TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY, KNOCKING NOISE GETS WORSE, CAR STALLS ON FREEWAY. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. HAD TO COAST OVER TO RIGHT SHOULDER ON FREEWAY. ENGINE SIEZED. THERE ARE RECALLS ON 2011 AND 2012 SONATA ENGINES FOR ENGINE DEFECT MADE IN MANUFACTURING PLANT. ALTHOUGH MY CAR WAS A 2013 IT DID EXACTLY WHAT OTHERS COMPLAINED ABOUT WITH THERE SONATA'S. I BELIEVE MY 2013 SONATA HAD AN ENGINE DEFECT. I HAVE A PICTURE OF METAL FRAGMENTS IN THE OIL PAN, WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SIEZE AND IS THE REASON FOR THE RECALL ON 2011 AND 2012 SONATAS.
MY STEERING WHEEL HAS STARTED TO MAKE THIS CLICKING NOISE WHEN YOU TURN IT. AS TIME GOES ON IT IS GETTING WORSE. I CALLED HYUNDAI DEALER THEY TOLD ME EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS BEFORE I GAVE ANYMORE INFORMATION BECAUSE NUMEROUS PEOPLE WITH MY TYPE OF VEHICLE AROUND 50,000-60,000 MILES SOMETHING IN THE STEERING COLUMN IS BREAKING AND IT IS ALMOST $300 TO FIX. I DO NOT FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO TAKE WHAT MONEY I HAVE TO FIX A BRAND NEW CAR. I WILL WAIT UNTIL HYUNDAI CAN FIX IT, IF ITS THERE FAULT. BUT THE QUESTION IS WHAT HAPPENS UNTIL THEN IS IT GOING TO BREAK ON ME ONE DAY AND SOMEONES LIFE IS IN DANGER????? PLEASE HELP

ENGINE SUDDENLY WITHOUT ANY PRIOR INDICATORS STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH ON HWY. LOST ALL POWER INCLUDING POWER BRAKING AND STEERING.
MY 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA 2.0T STARTED KNOCKING ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK. AS I WAS DRIVING THE KNOCKING NOISE GOT WORSER. SO I PULLED OVER AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN. I GOT IT TOWED, NONE F THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON. ENGINE SIEZED. I SEE THAT THERE ARE RECALLS FOR THE 2011 AND 2012 SONATA'S AND MY 2013 DID THE SAME THING AS THE 2011 AND 2012 SONATA ARE DOING. HYUNDAI DEALER AND HYUNDAI MOTOR CORP REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING MAKING NTHIS VEHICLE AND ANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME FEATURE A HAZARD. IF SOMEONE HACKS INTO MY OLD EMAILACCOUNT THEY CAN REMOTELY START THE CAR IN OUR GARAGE KILLING US, OR REMOTELY START AND UNLOCK THE DORRS ANYWHERE AND THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO. CAR WAS JUST IN 1 WEEK PRIOR TO A STEERING WHEEL RECALL AND A 27 POINT INSPECTION WAS DONE WITH NO ISSUES. 10 YEAR 100,000 MILE WARRANTY WON'T COVER IT AS THEY STATED THEY FOUND SLUDGE FROM THE OIL (THEY DIDN'T SEE THIS 7DAYS EARLIER), CAN'T GUARANTEE THIS IS WHAT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SEIZE, BUT WOULD COST MORE MONEY TO TAKE ENGINE COMPLETELY APART. RAN THROUGH HYUNDAI CORPORATE AND CLAIM DENIED. QUOTED $6000-7500 FOR ENGINE. THERE WAS NO WARNING WHATSOEVER, JUST KNOCKING IN THE ENGINE. WE DID NOT DO OIL CHANGES AT THE DEALERSHIP, SO THEY STATE POOR MAINTENANCE ON OUR PART. THE 2011 AND 2012 ENGINES HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS SAME REASON, AND ARE BACKORDERED, SO MY ENGINE FOR THE 2013 HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED BUT I AM 4-6 WEEKS OUT WAITING ON AN ENGINE, NO CAR AND THEY WON'T HELP PAY FOR A RENTAL.

MAINTAINING A STRAIGHT TRACK IS IMPOSSIBLE AND REQUIRES CONSTANT ATTENTION AND CORRECTION. THE VEHICLE WANDER CREATES HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS AND DRIVER FATIGUE, WHICH POSES A PUBLIC SAFETY HAZARD.
ON 10/13/15 WHILE DRIVING TO WORK THIS CAR STUTTER WHEN SLOWING FOR A STOP LIGHT. THE CAR DID NOT STALL SO I KEPT ON DRIVING. ON 10/16/15 WHILE TAKING MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL I WAS CROSSING THE MAN-O-WAR AND LYON DRIVE INTERSECTION AND THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. I COASTED ACROSS THE INTERSECTION AND GOT THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE WENT ON RUNNING AS IF NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. ON 10/18/15 I DECIDED TO LOOK THE ENGINE OVER TO SEE IF I COULD SEE WHY THE ENGINE STOPPED. I CHECKED THE OIL AND DISCOVERED THAT THE DIP STICK SHOWED NO OIL. I ADDED 2 QUARTS OF OIL I HAD ON HAND AND THE DIP STICK NOW SHOWED THAT THE ENGINE HAD OIL, BUT IT WAS STILL BELOW THE LOW MARK ON THE DIP STICK. THAT DAY WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. MY WIFE TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALER TO CHANGE THE OIL AND DETERMINE WHAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS FOR ON 10/20/15. THEY CHANGED THE OIL AND SAID THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT INDICATED THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE "EXHAUST OIL CONTROL VALVE". ON 10/22/15 THE ENGINE STARTED ACTING FUNNY. MY WIFE TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER, ON 10/23/15, AND THEY SAID THE ENGINE WAS FULL OF SLUDGE AND WE NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. I DID NOT BELIEVE IT AND WANTED A SECOND OPINION. MY WIFE BARLEY GOT THE CAR HOME. THAT SAME DAY I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO ANOTHER SERVICE FACILITY AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT WE NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. THEY ARE NOW REPLACING THE ENGINE.

THESE INCIDENTS HAVE HAPPENED ON MANY DIFFERENT DATES AND THE DEALER WILL NOT HELP US, BUT I AM ENTERING THE DATE OF THE LAST INCIDENT BELOW.

DEALER CHECKED THE SYSTEM, REPORTED "NO FAULT FOUND". WE WERE TOLD DEALER WAS AWARE OF OTHER 2013 SONATAS WITH SIMILAR FAULTS WHEN "ELECTRICAL NOISE" OVERWHELMED THE SYSTEM CAUSING A "FALSE FAULT". WE THINK HYUNDAI SHOULD FIX THIS ISSUE.

THE FAILURE MODE OF THE VEHICLE IS AS DESCRIBED IN THE CURRENT RECALL CAMPAIGN EFFECTING THE 2011 AND 2012 MOTORS. I CONTACTED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE TO SEE ABOUT GETTING MY VEHICLE COVERED. IT IS A 2013, BUT WAS AN EARLY MODEL YEAR BUILD IN 2012. THE CAR HAS BEEN UNDER REPAIR FOR OVER A MONTH BECAUSE OF THE SCARCITY PART AS A RESULT OF THE 2012 RECALL. MY 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA JUST SUDDENLY AND COMPLETELY DIED. ABOUT 3-4 DAYS PRIOR IT HAD STARTED MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND AND WOULD BLOW PUFFS OF SMOKE FROM THE EXHAUST ON CRANKING AND HEAVY ACCELERATION. THIS ALL STARTED RIGHT AFTER MY HUSBAND CHANGED THE OIL. I GOT IN THE CAR TO TAKE MY KIDS TO SCHOOL AND WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT 60 MPH DOWN A RURAL ROAD, IT COMPLETELY CUT OFF. I COASTED OFF OF THE ROAD, WAITED A FEW SECONDS, AND CRANKED THE CAR. IT ACTED FINE, BUT THE KNOCKING WAS DEFINITELY STILL THERE. AFTER MY HUSBAND GOT HOME FROM WORK HE WAS GOING TO CHECK THE CAR OUT AND SEE IF HE COULD FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. HE DECIDED TO DRIVE THE CAR DOWN THE ROAD, AND THE NEXT THING I KNOW, I AM GETTING A PHONE CALL FROM HIM ASKING ME TO COME PICK HIM UP. THE ENGINE HAD LOCKED UP (SEIZED) AND THE CAR HAD JUST DIED WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. COMPLETELY DIED, WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING AND WE HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK TO COME GET IT AND TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC'S SHOP, WHICH IS WHERE IT STILL IS. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 35,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY KIND OF INDICATOR LIGHT COME ON SIGNALLING THAT THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. NOTHING! NOT THE OIL LIGHT, NOTHING! I HAVE READ SO VERY MANY FORUMS AND COMPLAINTS THAT SOUND EXACTLY LIKE MY SITUATION. IT ALL SEEMS VERY SHADY TO ME. IT CANNOT BE A COINCIDENCE THAT THE SAME EXACT THING HAS HAPPENED TO SO MANY.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE BEFORE THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
