The engine lost power as driver was getting ready to go onto a major toll way, then when was able to regain a little power, was unable to go over 30mph. When was able to get to an independent repair shop to check it, engine knock code appeared, the check engine light only came on once the engine lost power, not prior to. The shop checked oil and the dipstick came out dry! They did not see any obvious leaks, and suggested it be towed to dealership. When towed to nearest dealership the car has been sitting for a week and a half and still not be looked at. The oil had been changed a few months prior and was not close to the miles needed for next change. This could have caused a fire for the car, it could have caused an accident if was not able to get to side of road. This is similar If not exactly the same that has happened to other Hyundai Sonata owners and is causing a lot of hardship for our family to be without this car or a loaner! This appears to be the recall on Hyundai engines that’s happening to similar models.
Ive tried twice unsuccessfully to have my hyundai sonata recall repairs fixed. First time they said that they were going to order the part, this was around november 2021. Never did get that call. So I called them again to set up an appointment, they gave me an appointment date of 01/26/2022. On that day they told me that they had to cancel because once again they have to order the part.In the mean time my car is running bad with a dealership neglecting this situation, without any concern to how serious and dangerous the outcome could be as described in the court order. The dealership is in Modesto ca. Central Valley Hyundai.
Check Engine light on,, throttle stuck/revving high in idle. Vehicle lunges forward without touching the gas pedal. Difficult to keep brake applied to stop it from lunging forward. Yet, little to no power over 25mph. Vehicle still under manufacturer, dealer and wrap warranty which was purchased at the dealership at point of sale. Vehicle affected by theta II engine safety campaign. Hyundai extended the powertrain warranties for all affected vehicles. Manufacturer and dealer notified of the safety issue on vehicle. Both unconcerned and uncooperative. Upon attempting to get my vehicle serviced; Was first told 8 weeks before my car can even be looked at. That no loaners are available(I am entitled to a loaner of a vehicle in the same class as mine per my warranty)I reiterated the safety concern. Hyundai and dealership failed & continue to fail to make this issue a priority. Explained that I could not drive the car for 8weeks. That it's dangerous, its going to kill myself or someone else. At the very least it will cause injury. Still no solution offered by manufacturer or dealership. Hyundai representative gave me an itinerary #(?) for reference. Also, attempted to sell me another warranty. I explained that my vehicle was covered by THREE warranties. I don't NEED another warranty. I NEED my car fixed and for someone to make this safety issue a priority! My car was a CPO purchased 5/28/20. Less than 30days after sale the check engine light came on & the car started misfiring. It was able to be serviced quickly, a loaner was given to me promptly and the issue was "fixed". This has now reoccured 6 times. Each of those 6 times my car was able to be brought in and serviced quickly, a loaner given to me. The dealership nor the manufacturer will resolve the current safety issue. The car is going to cause bodily harm and/or a fatality & they will have blood on their hands.
For the past several months, my vehicle has been burning oil. The oil lamp would only come on when the oil was completely gone and that would happen at least a month before I was set to get another oil change. This morning my check engine light came on for the first time and I was barely able to make it to work without my car stalling. I have not been able to have it checked because it just happened and I'm not even sure it will start when I leave work today. After just a short search online, I have found that other vehicles of the same year, make, and model have been recalled for similar things happening. Unfortunately, my car was not included in that recall even though I am experiencing the same issues.
Bought the car in June ‘21 and in Oct it started having engine problems (very low oil , shaky idle and hard transitioning gears) When I took to Hyundai Suntrup, 1 spark plug had bust and was covered in oil and dealership couldnt tell why . They replaced spark plug ran air induction service and sent me on my way . Come end of december and car was still having issues w low oil and shakey gear transitions so they gave me a upper engine cleaning service as well as an oil change . Now my oil pressure light keeps going off and I steadily burn through oil . At almost 2x the normal rate because when I last got the oil changed was only 1.5k miles ago .
APRIL 28, 2022 THE ENGINE. IT IS REPLACED AND STILL AT ANTWERPEN HYUNDAI IN BALTIMORE MD. AT GREAT RISK BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD LOSE ALL FORWARD POWER AND REDUCE SPEED FROM60 MILE PER HOUR ON A BELTWAY WHERE THE TRAFFIC MOVES VERY FAST AND I WOULD QUICKLY GO DOWN TO 20 MILES PER HOUR. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED BY 2 CERTIFIED MECHANICS BEFORE TAKEN TO ANTWERPEN WHERE THE 3RD DIAGNOSIS WAS PROVEN A NEED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. I AM NOT SURE IF IT WAS INSPECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER BUT THE SERVICE DEPT. AT ANTWERPEN WERE IN TOUCH WITH THE MANUFACTURER BECAUSE THEY APPROVED REPLACING THE ENGINE. THERE WERE NO-(NONE) CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS BUT IT DID SAY CHANGE THE OIL. I DID CHANGE THE OIL EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ONLY 1200 MILES SINCE THE OIL HAD BEEN CHANGED. THE POWER FAILURE OCCURED TWO TIMES PRIOR TO THE FINAL TIME AND I TOOK IT TO JENKINS HYUNDAI IN LEESBURG FLORIDA (WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR) AND THEY CONTINUED TO REPORT NO PROBLEMS. THE PROBLEM 1ST APPEARED WITHIN THE FIRST 30 DAYS OF THE PURCHASE ON MAY 22, 2021. UPON RECEIVING THE CAR BACK AFTER ENGINE REPLACEMENT THE CAR WAS BLOWING BLACK SMOKE (LOTS OF IT) I TOOK IT BACK TO ANTWERPEN AND THEY FOUND THE TURBO WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED (BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURER HAD THEM -POWER CLEAN?-THE TURBO. THE MANUFACTURER AGREED TO PAY TO REPACE THE TURBO. HOWEVER UPON CLOSER INSPECTION THE CATELETIC CONVERTOR WAS RUINED BECAUSE OF ALL THE OIL THROWN . THEY AGREED TO PAY FOR THE CONVERTER BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR THE LABOR (?) IT TOOK 2 WEEKS (WHILE I HAD TO PAY FOR MY TRANSPORTATION) TO COMPLETE.I WAS TO PICK UP THE CAR ON THE 27TH OF APRIL,2022 AND I DID. IT IS STILL BLOWING LOTS OF BLACK SMOKE. ANTWERPEN SAID DRIVE IT FOR A FEW WEEKS AND THE SMOKING WILL STOP. I DROVE 13 MILES AND THE CAR START TREMBLING- ALL OVER SHAKING. NO FLAT TIRE. THE ENGINE IS RUMBLING AND SHAKING THE CAR. ANTWERPEN SAID DON'T BRING IT IN. LET ME DO SOME LOOKING AROUND AND I ([XXX]) WILL CALL YOU BY 2 P.M. TODAY (5/28/22 I AM AFRAID OF I INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, the gear shifter would not shift into (D) drive. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the speedometer and gauges inadvertently moved up and down. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with battery failure. The battery was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer however, the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The failure recurred and the vehicle was towed back to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle with oil valve sensor leakage. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
On January 8, 2022, I called McGrath City Hyundai and Genesis of Oak Park to ask about any recent recalls on my vehicle due to my engine leaking out oil after putting in new oil. Prior to that, I had a mechanic look at it in case the oil change place made a mistake on their end and found they were not at fault. So after the Hyundai dealership told me there was 2 recalls that she can see from her end based on my VIN, 1 for the engine and the other for the trunk, we set up an appointment to try and repair the vehicle because at this point the vehicle was not drivable and we had to get it towed. We also had no prior knowledge that there was any recall due to the fact we bought the vehicle in May of 2020 from a dealership called Toyota of Lincoln Park. After bringing in paperwork to Hyundai in person for proof we have been maintaining the car and after waiting weeks for our car to be fixed, we are being told they cannot fix the engine due to the fact that the recall was from 2018 and the previous owners did nothing to resolve the issue. We were also told that the dealership that sold us the vehicle cannot look up recalls from other vehicles and only can do it with Toyota. The car had already almost failed on the expressway and could have caused an accident had we not pulled off to the exit. And we were fortunate enough to get it to our home. The engine wasn't locked up and we feel now it might be while in the hands of Hyundai. Hyundai has denied the claim to have it serviced due to it being a 2018 recall and all we want is the car running again. We cannot afford to get another car and it is our only means of transportation.
My car was driving just fine then it wasn’t accelerating right and it went into limp mode. I was about 12 miles from home. I made it but the next day on the way to the dealership the engine just died about a mile from my house. Engine light came on. I always get my oil changes on time. Dealership says engine oil is sludged due to negligence. No negligence I believe faulty engine caused containments and have very bad oil consumption. My theta engine was left out of the campaign and my warranty was denied.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. Additionally, the engine was leaking oil onto the ground, and smoke was coming from the engine compartment while driving. The vehicle was taken to Walmart for an oil change. The contact stated that after the oil change the engine consumed two and a half quarts of oil after driving a thousand miles. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who performed an oil consumption test, and the engine passed the test. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 92,672.
Steering wheel and response was "intermittently" grinding and non-responsive. This situation has occurred sporadically over the course of the fall of 2021. On December 17, 2021 while on the way to work, the steering system "froze" while I was driving and put me in a very dangerous and hazardous situation. Dash warning lights indicated a red steering wheel symbol with a cross-line and the orange anti-skid symbol at the time of the incident. I immediately stopped the car and turned it off. Upon re-start, all dash warning lights were off and the steering seemed to work normally. I next carefully and slowly drove the car to my local car repair shop. They could not duplicate the problem, but felt certain it was the electronic power steering module that was failing intermittently. My local shop strongly recommended I have the vehicle towed to the Hyundai dealership for evaluation and repair. I had the car towed to Huffines Hyundai in Plano, Texas on Dec. 21, 2021. After three weeks in at the Huffines Plano Service Shop, the service manager called and stated they are unable to duplicate the problem and to "come pick up your car". I have called and created an incident report with Hyundai National Help line, but to date, no resolution has been offered other than "come get your car". This is clearly a driver and road safety issue. When the steering failed, I could not turn the wheel at all. The car was out of my control. Stopping was the only thing I still had control of, and even this was dangerous as I was on a very busy 6-lane divided thoroughfare. This electrical (or mechanical) failure put me and all other drivers around in a dangerous situation. Clearly, I am not comfortable retrieving this car and putting it back on the road. Please Advise my next best step(s)
The electrical steering system lock up. If I cannot steer it a big safety problem for me and other drivers Will call dealer today (not sure if it must be towed) No inspection yet Yes I did get a waring lamp light but the streeing wheel could not be moved ( light came on after staring car
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed seized on the floorboard. The check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to exceed 25 MPH while driving. The contact veered to the side of the roadway, turned off, and restarted the vehicle; however, the failure recurred while driving. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 66,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V619000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer and was informed that due to a previous accident repair, the trunk latch was not aligned which was the cause of the mechanic not being able to complete the recall repair. The manufacturer had not been made aware of the issue. Parts distribution disconnect.
power steering went out, apparently this is common with this year/model but there is still not a recall on it
My Steering Wheel Would Lock Up On Me Sporadically & my EPS & ESC Malfunction Indicator Light Will come on & don’t illuminate, but once I cut the car off & cut it back on my steering wheel will go back to normal & the warning lights will go off. My car have done this multiple times out of the blue but this particular time it just did it again my warning indications light doesn’t illuminate even after turning the car on & off. I can’t drive because my steering wheel is very hard to steer. It’s nearly impossible to get a service appointment with Hyundai and my car is just sitting. Also, multiple people have had this same problem with the steering with this vehicle. Consumer stated power steering had problems and locked up. *JB
WHEN I WAS DRIVING, THE CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN I WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELARETE AND THE CAR TURNED OFF. I PUSHED THE START BUTTON TO TURN ON THE CAR AND I SAW SMOKE CAME FROM THE HOOD. ACCORDING TO MY MECHANIC IT WAS THE STARTER. WE PUT A NEW STARTER , THE CAR DIDNT STAR AND THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE HOOD AGAIN. I DECIDED TO SEND THE CAR TO HYUNDAI DEALER. AFTER TWO WEEKS THEY STILL DIDN'T CALL ME TO KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE CAR. I AM STILL WAITING FOR.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact mentioned that multiple attempts were made while attempting to start the vehicle. The vehicle was towed by triple AAA. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was drove smoothly afterwards however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.
Bought car 8/30/20 on 9/29/20 engine light came on and went into limp mode. Friend came and 1st thing we done was checked oil. 2qts low. Car had 2 codes that came up. Car had 42090 miles. There's now 52200. Car has burned oil since I got it. Been checked by place referred to & states burning oil. afraid to drive now. hear ticking/knocking in motor too.
IT is burning oil and am very afraid to drive this car before it catches on fire....I am hoping the dealer will replace the engine or Hyundai Motor company to give us warranty without the hassle...
Vehicle seemed to burning oil. Losing oil a month after oil change. Emission issues, rattling and fumes when running.
Paint on the roof top started to bubble and peel right off. Any sort of chip in the paint will cause sheets of paint to come off. In my research, this is not the first time people have complained about Hyundai’s paint.
I was driving and the steering wheel completely locked up. I was unable to turn. I had to turn the car off then back on in order to reset the computer. No warning lights prior to this. When it happened the light on my dash with a steering wheel and exclamation mark appeared. Very dangerous and appears to be a common issue. Vehicle has not been driven since. Where’s the recall? Does someone need to die first?
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light flashing on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over and had the vehicle towed to two separate independent mechanics where the second mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with engine failure. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer where it remained in their possession. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that the vehicle did not qualify for any recalls or warranty programs. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 123,000.
As I am driving my steering wheel locked up. I am in lunch hour rush and my steering wheel is locked up. Very unsafe. When I research it, there are a lot of complaints on the steering wheel. Please fix it.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V619000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The local dealer and the manufacturer were made aware of the issue. The contact stated that on one occasion the trunk failed to open. The failure mileage was unknown. Parts distribution disconnect. Vehicle has been repaired.
Vehicle caught fire while undergoing warranty repairs
I have a car that was purchased that currently has numerous recalls. the automakers have asked me numerous times to bring the car in and pay out of pocket for diagnostic but has yet to fix anything. I am concerned with the safety of the car liked to performance issues that car and maybe linked to the engine recall that is pending.
dealership has failed to fix the issue since aug 2021 this is my business ar im out of business because of this
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving, there was a ticking sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the local independent mechanic who indicated that no oil was present in the engine. Oil was added to the engine but later while driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine had seized. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,179.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle drove rough and was unresponsive. The vehicle also experienced an excessive oil consumption. The contact stated that occasionally the vehicle failed to start. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the engine oil level was extremely low even though all schedule oil changes had been performed. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
My trunk latch malfunctioned and my trunk will no longer close. I brought my vehicle to the Hyundai dealership and they advised me the latch has indeed failed there was nothing they could do to fix it, as the recall is still marked "incomplete" and they have no parts to fix the trunk latch. I am unable to drive my car with the trunk open, as it makes me unable to see out of the back window.
Air bag and traction warning lights came on at the same time. Dealer scanned and said the air bag control module was defective. After replacing the module the dealer informs me that the passengers front air bag is defective. Failure of these parts would cause the air bags to not deploy in an accident. The car is still at the dealer at this time.
Air bag and antilock brake lights came on. First dealer replaced the air bag control module. Secondary issue then identified a defective air bag. Both have not been replaced. I asked for the old parts and was told I could not have them. They were sent back to be rebuilt.
I have a failing engine that excessively consumes oil at the rate of approximately 1qt per 500 miles. The notorious theta2 2.4ltr sonata engine has spewed so much oil into the top half of engine that it had infact so severely damaged the catalytic converter that it became a plug in the exhaust system. The oil consumption issue has destroyed the entire cars engine system and it was infact a ticking time bomb that Hyundai has denied multiple times to repair. After the catalytic converters reached 1700' and Hyundai indicated that it was fine nothing to worry about, we had to physically remove the catalytic converter packing and alow for the engine fumes to exit the car properly, they previously had mainly entering the passenger cabin or they were pushed back into the engine. I according to Hyundai have no warranty on the car, I owe money to my bank Hyundai and the dealership have been paid they have no problem letting me get stuck with a lemon. It's been to the dealership multiple times, campaign 953 engine knock sensor was done on 10/08/21 it has mysteriously found its way out of my car records. Tampering editing, falsifying documents are all illegal and wrong. Since the papers showed that it was done it should have extended the warranty to 10 yes/ 120,000 and I should be reimbursed for my rental fees for being unable to drive my car any distance thousandths of dollars into oil, not being able to get a safety inspection. missing multiple days of work, depreciation ( the dealership that sold me this car 18mo ago valued it at $17,000 09/20, and on 10/08 gave me a $6,000 trade in value) lastly a car in good running condition that is safe for us to use. HYUNDAI IS SELLING DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS AND GETTING AWAY WITH IT EVEN AFTER BEING TAKEN TO COURT AND HAVING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN FINES AND PAYOUTS. They are stealing from hard working family's that are already struggling to get by.
I am filing this complaint regarding a significant safety concern with my 2017 Hyundai Sonata. Since around 65,000 miles, my vehicle has experienced excessive engine oil consumption. The issue has progressively worsened, and my car now has 126,000 miles. Despite undergoing an oil consumption test that confirmed the rapid depletion of oil, Hyundai and their dealerships have failed to provide a resolution. This defect requires me to add oil approximately every two weeks. The excessive oil consumption poses a potential safety hazard, as the engine could seize unexpectedly while driving due to insufficient oil levels. The risk of engine failure is further exacerbated by the lack of sufficient warnings from Hyundai regarding this known issue. This situation not only jeopardizes the safety of myself and my passengers but also other drivers on the road. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate this matter, as it appears to be a widespread issue among Hyundai vehicles. Prompt action is necessary to ensure consumer safety and hold the manufacturer accountable for addressing this defect. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter. I am happy to provide additional details or documentation upon request.
The contact called on behalf of her friend who owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while the owner was driving at unknown speed, she began to hear an abnormal noise. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The owner took the vehicle to the local dealer and was informed that an oil change was needed. The owner stated she took the vehicle back within 30 days and oil needed to be added to the vehicle. The owner was informed by the dealer she needed to trade in the vehicle. The owner declined the trade-in. The owner continued to experience the failure. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
When steering right in a corner of a traffic light the car loss the Electric Power Steering and it became very hard to steer the car. The Electric Power steering light and the Traction Control light went On. I drove straight to a safe location where I pulled over, the steering wheel was very hard to turn. I shut down the car to check the car manual. After approximately 5 min, I started up the car again, I noticed the electric power steering came on again and the ESP & TC lights were not visible any more. I drove home to park the car. The failure did not show again.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated after opening the trunk, it failed to close. The contact tied the trunk closed with a rope. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V619000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES) however, the part to do the recall was unavailable. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who stated the parts were not available. The dealer was able to close the trunk and informed the contact not to open the trunk. The contact stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 133,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
3 times steering has locked up while driving. Had to turn vehicle off and back on to get it working again. Have not driven since last incident as it is too dangerous. Will tow to mechanic to have it looked at. Have read many complaints from other owners with same problem. Hyundai has not issued recall for this problem and not admit it is a problem. This is serious and could cause death or serious injury.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the trunk failed to open without warning. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V619000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who repaired the rear latch assembly and rear latch. The failure mileage was 19,717. Parts distribution disconnect.
The steering collar has locked up while driving home and on the street 4x's since Mid August. I was lucky that I was strong enough to get it to turn and I was able to turn the car off and back on and the steering wheel went back to regular control. This is a serious issue that Hyundai will not do a recall on. My family and I could be in the car and this could have happen. The biggest problem is that this can not be confirmed by any one there is not diagnosis code for a steering collar. The waring lights come on at the same time once the wheel locks up on you. You have to stop the car turn it off and turn it back on so it can work properly once it happens.
The steering wheel continuously locks up when pulling out of the driveway or a parking spot. It has gotten to the point where it was completely locked and my car is now unable to be driven. It also has locked while driving on the road twice prior to that. No warning signs popped up before the situation happened. Usually when it would happen, I would turn the car on and off, and the issue would be resolved, but now I’m unable to drive my car as it has completely locked. I brought the car in prior to this to the Hyundai dealership in Puyallup, WA, and they advised that the MDPS column needs to be replaced which will cost $3,000. I asked them if they have received any complaints about this, and they stated that they haven’t, yet when I look online I see hundreds of Hyundai owners stating that they have had similar issues with their power steering. Clearly the cars need to be recalled immediately has this is a safety hazard for many Hyundai owners.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact was made aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V619000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) associated with the VIN after an emissions test. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the trunk latch would not latch properly to securely close the trunk. The contact's son repaired the trunk latch. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.
While being driven, the check in engine light came on. Next the battery light came on followed by the other lights on the dashboards. It then became difficult to accelerate and smoke began to come from under the hood. Then flames were noticed by a man passing and he began to point to the bottom passenger side of the car. The car was pulled over and more flames began. The passengers exited out of the driver side and the car was soon engulfed.

Recall on my 2017 Hyundai Sonata was repaired 9/13/2019, purchased the vehicle with financing on 7/16/2021. On 8/18/2021, had vehicle towed back to the dealership and explained the issue. Engine knocking, tire pressure and engine lights on, frequent stalling, turning off, smell of gas and something burning, loss of power to the engine, car could not accelerate to 60 MPH. The dealership had my car till 9/20/2021, power train warranty was denied and voided, no loaner car was given, was not offered any reimbursement for car rental by dealership and Hyundai corporate. Although car is included in Theta class action lawsuit. I was correct about issue with engine, but the dealership replaced engine with used parts. No later than five days after having my car back, the engine and tire pressure lights came back on, car is tugging, and the engine noise is louder. I don’t believe that they replaced the engine with OEM parts.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while coming to a stop, the vehicle would stall and lose motive power. The contact would shift to park(P) and restart the vehicle.
