The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle suddenly stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted and was taken to an independent mechanic and the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle was not included in a recall campaign. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was not available.
My Hyundai sonata hybrid has always experienced issues with a loss of power as well as warnings illuminating on the dashboard which also would result in a check engine light and occasionally a complete shutdown of the car. When this issue was experienced a simple restart of the car would make it run normal again-even the trouble codes would clear out of the system after the 3rd reset (also completely wiping the code history)I was lucky and the car began to “limp” and throw the check hybrid system warning within 5 minutes of a local dealership. They found that the HSG “hybrid starter generator” was faulty via a voltage test. They explained that the HSG would cause the complete shutdown and poor performance of my vehicle due to incorrect voltage. This issue existed for many years and the dealership was unable to identify the source of the issue. This is extremely dangerous and seems to be a common occurrence. I complained about this issue directly to the dealer’s maintenance managers as well as escalated the issue to Hyundai Corp they also were unable to determine the part was faulty over many years and even told me to just “reset and keep driving”. Please investigate this issue it can be found all over the internet with a simple google search. I have even met a gentleman in the dealership with the same year Hyundai sonata hybrid limited and he also was experiencing the same issue-they were unable to identify or replicate the issue when the car was left with the dealer.
Electric power steering light has come on… when this happens the stirring wheel almost feels locked and when merging off the freeway this was a scary thing. Not sure how something like this can go out already and the car is only a little over 5 years old.
Driving this passed saturday and my car was jumping when i would slow it down to decrease my speed. Once my car got to 5mph it’ll jump forward then it would stop. When i went to accelerate it would pick up no speed until 40mph then the engine light came on. I went to get a diagnostic from autozone and it was my power train system having an issue. I have no clue what that was. Went to make an appointment for hyundai NO appointments for a month! What happens if the car shuts down on me? or doesn’t brake when i press on it?
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving from a stationary position, the vehicle sputtered and vibrated while attempting to accelerate. Additionally, it was discovered that the engine was consuming 1-quart of engine oil per 1,000 miles. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who performed an oil consumption test. The cause of the failure was not yet identified. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was unknown.
Engine Recall from Hyundai, I brought it to Hyundai Route 1, South Brunswick, NJ, they claimed Hyundai needed to have it done, the recall mail I received was from Hyundai itself, their engines are catching fire, their engine oil levels are going dangerously low in a really short time, please help me get to a resolution to this issue or give Hyundai a citation for their irresponsible actions.
The car was involved in a front end collision going about 35 mph. The Collison was enough to bust the radiator and likely total the car. The entire front end is heavily damaged. There was a driver and front seat passenger in the vehicle at the time of Collision. The seat belts did not lock nor did any airbag deploy.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while her friend was driving 35 MPH, the vehicle stalled with white and black smoke coming from under the hood. The contact stated that an abnormal thumping sound was coming from the vehicle. There were several unknown warning lights flashing on the instrument panel. The contact exited the vehicle and called for a tow truck. Upon arrival, the tow truck driver inspected the vehicle and informed her that a piston had blown a hole through the engine block. The tow truck driver informed her that there was an engine recall for similar vehicles. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact called the dealer and was informed that due to the vehicle having a Salvage Title the recall would not be honored. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.
At roughly 133,800 miles, the oil warning light began to appear, but sporadically. I took the car to my local Valvoline who relayed that the dip stick was basically dry. My last oil change was at 131,439 miles. Valvoline added 4 quarts of oil at 133,893 miles. That was on 01/03/2023. I have had one oil change since then. My current mileage is roughly 137,000 - I have had to add 5 quarts of oil and the dip stick still reads low. There are no signs of an oil leak, no excessive exhaust (blue or otherwise), or any visible leaks under the hood.
Very high oil consumption, increasing as more miles added.
The steering wheel became stiff and I had to jerk it a little just to coast with the curves in the road. Took it to Hyundai and they said nothing was wrong and recalibrated the steering. The problem remained. A few months later there was a mechanical griding sound coming from the steering column while car was idle on several occasions. It eventually stopped and then the steering wheel was not in sync with turning the wheels causing a knocking sound. The plastic gear in the motor was bad and replaced by a mechanic. Vehicle now has additional sounds coming from the steering column and they suspect the power steering motor itself is bad. Sound/problem more noticeable when driving on a bumpy road.
Check engine light came on had it check out it the motor. I always maintain me car. The place that fixes my car said the Hyundai have issue with their engine. They engine has to be replaced.
HEV lights came on stalled car and stated to turn engine off, barely made to a parking lot. Car was towed, in shop Dec 29, 2022 to Jan 10, 2023. knock sensor replaced, rusty spark plugs slots cleaned out, no communication with power train, case #20817405 June 16, case# 21597503 part A: Hev lights again chugging and stalling. Car towed in shop 22 days, returned 7-5-22.actuator 2nd time failure, knock sensor issue, clogged, emissions were cleaned: part b: Aug 14, to Oct 4 2023HEV system lights again, car stalled and died then towed : combustion cleaning 2nd time, spark plug corrosion replaced 2 time issue, 4 injectors replaced, recommend replace manifold (which I cannot pay for) dealer tech test drove 2 days and put 211 miles on car, more than we do in normal week driving to work and shopping In shop this time 52 days. This car has been taken in for all recall campaigns. Work done at same dealership every time. Is a sonata Hybrid SE I am attaching two files if you need more Please let me know. Your date entry below does not allow for each of the 3 times in shop total roughly 85 days four months Would like Hyundai to buy car back as no trade in value now and I cannot afford more rental fees and repairs and the balance due of $495.75 from 1st rental. Car just entering 6 year when first issue started.
Complete loss of power. Car shut down at freeway speeds. Dealership runs codes and they cannot find out what specifically is causing issue. Issue cannot be replicated as it only happens a few times a year and has existed since shortly after purchase of the car brand new. There is articles all over the internet people having similar experiences. This car is NOT safe. Hyundai does not communicate hybrid system codes through their telematics system so there is no paper trail. The car also clears the codes out after 3 reboots following the check hybrid system codes. Dealer has reported car shut down due to voltage issues-not able to determine the reason since after reboot the car drives normally.
Was pulling out of a parking space started driving and power steering completely failed second time this has happened in 2 months
The check engine light started flashing Check hybrid system turn off engine massage appeared The gas pedal doesnt work and the car jumps The problem happened 4 times so far with me The same problem happened about 5 times with my uncle that drives 2016 sonata hybrid
Ever since I have had my car there has been a wind sound like some this is dragging under my car! Been to dealership multiple times and they tell me that’s how these cars sound! Now oil is disappearing right after and oil change! They say my oil pan bolts were stripped out! Well the Hyundai dealership is the only people that have done my oil changes! Tried to charge me for that! I get an engine diagnosis check done and they tell me nothing is wrong with my car! Before I could make it home engine light was on! Took it back now they saying engine manifold! Want to charge me for that! Now car won’t go over 20 mph! White car paint has chipped from the front roof and hood of car! Driving I see multiple white vehicles with paint chipped in the same areas of the vehicle! Call corporate they know about the the issue. They want to spot paint the car! If you spot paint it doesn’t fix the growing areas of peel up! There is no reason a 2017 and newer models should have huge metal spots for paint peeling already! Only on white Hyundai Sonatas mainly! I have called corporate about every issue with my car and they seem to not care!
On 12/26/22, I was on a road trip and the car began vibrating violently on the PA turnpike. The car was losing power and would not accelerate. I was forced to stop on the highway with my kids in the car. Hyundai repaired the cylinders in the engine and then it began burning excessive oil, 1 quart ever 1000 miles. For months, I drove this car and as the oil got lower, the car hesitated while driving and ran very rough. On 7/4/23, transmission overheated and once again, car lost power on the road and left me stranded with my kids. Engine is burning excessive oil and causing other issues with car. Was not fixed when car died the first time and has now left me limping along and stranded twice. Car has been at shop since 7/5/23. Engine approved, but dealer can’t get parts. Hyundai won’t approve transmission until engine is replaced, leaving me to drive an unreliable car again when transmission and engine both have known issues. It’s unsafe to continually be stranded by a car that clearly has a bad engine. Would have been more cost effective for Hyundai to replace car at this point and still being given runaround by corporate.
The car lost all acceleration and my check hybrid system light came on. The car would not handle safely to drive. After 3 resets the car finally accelerated as normal. The codes clear themselves before the dealer can check them to give a specific issue. It is not giving the diagnosis for the hybrid issue in the diagnostic log.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the RPMs revved up however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated, lost motive power and stalled in the middle of the road. The contact's newborn and two other young children were occupying the rear seats at the time the failure occurred. The vehicle failed to restart. Another driver assisted the contact with hauling the vehicle to her residence. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact was also informed that other unknown repairs also needed to be completed. The dealer informed the contact that the engine could not be replaced under an unknown recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 131,000.
Total loss of power while driving occurred on 2 separate occasions driving the Hyundai Sonata. The dashboard lit up with multiple failures with no warning, and car lost all power. Both times were in peak traffic conditions and on one of the two instances, a very dangerous mountain road with very little time to react. Towed on 2 occasions to 2 different dealers with no clear cut fix for the car. These were very scary and dangerous incidents and I am afraid to drive this car to be honest. Hyundai has not done much to contact or reassure me that they were dealing with the situation.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine stalled without warning. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that he was then made aware of an unknown recall pertaining to the engine. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer; however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 175,000.
I purchased the vehicle in December and the same weak it began leaking oil the window won’t roll down and the car shuts down by itself. It caused me to have an accident and the dealership has repaired it 14 times with the same issue. They are forcing me to drive an unsafe vehicle I need to report this vehicle as unsafe
Yesterday when turning right on to my street making right turn very slow as children going home from school my steer ing lock no control. Car stopped within a few feet but unable to restart or take it out of drive. I tried several times turning the key nothing happened. But finally able to get it out of drive and start the car. With that the power steering worked I slowly drove it home about ten houses from intersections. Lucky no one hurt when I turned on to my street. Looked up problem with the electric steering for this cat and reports from your agency referenced similar problems but for some reason no recall issued by manufacturer. Call dealer can do nothing without mfg doing recall. How possible.? Your agency is to protect. What's more dangerous then having your steering going completely out while driving.
Hello, I would like to file a complaint my name is [XXX] I am having a translator help me to write this. I was taken advantage of by a bad car dealership who sold me a dangerous car that smokes leaked oil does not stop and locks up they said the car was safe they also did not explain the contract to me. They want me to drive unsafe vehicle 1000 miles. They won’t give me a loaner car. They won’t give me my money back or a replace my car I feel unsafe and I don’t want to do business with them ever again. I want my money back. He had immediate problems with the oil and smoke coming out of the car within the first week and went back to have an oil change they charged him money. The following week the same issue occurred with smoking and stalling of the car. He brought the car in for service and they tried to charge him almost $500 for a new gasket. I told them this is not right and I would report them to consumer affairs they said they would repair it 10 days later the same issue occurred and he brought it in again they put oil in the car and he had problems again. When he brought it back they said they need to keep the car to have it serviced and they would not provide him a loaner car. The dealership is forcing him to drive an unsafe car 1000 miles in order to have an engine replaced not care about his safety. They told him he has to drive the car for 1000 miles in order to have a warranty take effect he is scared to drive it. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
This is my second report and no one helped me. I have a safety issue and I am driving an unsafe car Hyundia refuses to help me.
Driving on highway went to pass a vehicle and merge into the next lane, when car lost speed. Pulled over and tried to restart car, car restarted only to shut right back off. Put quart of oil in and shortly after there was a clicking noise when I got up to speed, I had to put two more quarts in as well as a cleaning additive. Cannot drive over 8 mph without car making noise
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, there was white smoke coming from the engine compartment and the exhaust. The contact retrieved DTC code: P0420 for spark plug failure. The spark plugs were replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was diagnosed with spark plugs and catalytic converter failure. The spark plugs were replaced. The contact stated that the spark plugs looked burned. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the catalytic converter was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that the vehicle had been consuming an excessive amount of engine oil for almost two years. The contact stated that engine oil was added every 600 miles of driving. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The dealer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with the cost for a diagnostic test. The contact declined to pay for a diagnostic test. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was unknown.
While driving the vehicle on the highway, the check engine light began flashing and the car immediately lost almost all power. We had enough power to pull off of the highway off-ramp where the vehicle began jolting before stalling on a side road. We started the car back up and had just enough power to drive into the hospital parking lot next to the side road, where we had it towed to the Hyundai dealer across the highway. That Hyundai dealer identified the Intake Manifold Runner as the culprit via engine fault code P200A00. This Hyundai dealer was also concerned with oil consumption as the car's oil was low even though it had been maintained according to Hyundai standards. They did an oil consumption test, but argued that it was normal, while refusing to repair or replace the Intake Manifold Runner, & only cleaned the Intake Manifold Runner, for which they charged. They gave us the car back and it continued to consume oil to the point where the dipstick was reading below the low line. The car also continued to jolt and have low power. This same Hyundai dealer told us to add oil to the engine and have it towed to them, which we did. They then claimed the car had too much oil, blamed us for it, and continued to refuse to investigate the issue any further. They gave us the car back after a lot of confrontational back and forth on their part where they agreed to change the oil and do another oil consumption test at no charge. A few weeks later, the check engine light came back on, the car lost power, and we called the same dealer back. The dealer refused to help us, so we took it to another dealer who found the same P200A00 fault code and replaced the entire Intake Manifold Runner under warranty without any questions asked, and at no charge. When we were still dealing with the first Hyundai dealer, we opened a case on them through Hyundai corporate, but corporate did nothing and did not care about the issue. Hyundai Corporate and one of their dealers ignored 21-EM-008H.
I took my car to a shop due to my car having a loud knocking noise coming from the engine bay and lack of acceleration as well as the oil light flickering on and off and once the mechanic inspected my vehicle he said metal particles were being deposited into my oil due to internal engine parts. After picking my car up all the lights on the dash cut on and the car completely had no steering, no brakes, no power but the radio still worked. I barely could turn the steering wheel nor could stop the vehicle due to this and thankfully could coast into an upgrade leveled hill and stop the car. Car would barely recrank or hold power nor would go above 40 mph. Only drove 5 miles to get the car back home safely. Drove back around 3:00 a.m. so there wouldn't be much traffic out in case of something like this happening. Could've been catastrophic!
Power Steering, on two occasions the power steering malfunctioned. One while starting to leave a parking lot, the other happened while driving. This can cause an extremely safety hazard driving in traffic. As far as know there has been no recalls addressing this problem. I did some research and found this same incident has happened with others with this vehicle. It seems that a safety recall should be initiated to correct this malfunction.
2017 Hyundai Sonata. 53k miles. Steering becomes sticky and hard to turn. It is most concerning on the highway when at speed it is difficult to keep the car going in a straight line. It takes extra force to turn the wheel just a little. Once its forced, it can turn too much if not careful and will swerve into the next lane. It then does not freely return to center without manually doing so. I will not let my wife drive the car. I have read other reports of this problem and it is a serious issue. I have not brought the car to any dealer or repair shop. This is clearly a safety recall issue and must be dealt with before someone gets seriously hurt or killed.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while her son was driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light, the battery warning light, and the oil pressure warning light illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The contact's son veered to the side of the road. The contact stated that her son was able to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle was jerking while driving. The contact's son pulled into a gas station where he added oil in the vehicle. However, upon starting the vehicle and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond and would not move. The vehicle was towed the residence of the contact's mother. The vehicle was then towed to a local Pep Boys where it was diagnosed that oil had leaked onto the spark plugs and cylinders. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owned a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 30-30 MPH, he saw smoke coming from underneath the hood of the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact stated that upon opening the hood, he saw fire. The contact stated that the fire burned the front end and interior of the vehicle. The contact was able to extinguish the fire with the assistance of the fire department. There were no injuries sustained. A fire department report was filed. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot yard where it was totaled. The dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
Trunk latch recall - was told the Hyundai dealership couldnt get me in for over a month to fix it
Electric power steering randomly fails while driving, causing a huge safety issue.
The system malfunction would be the power steering. As I turned the car on and then proceeded to go in reverse out of my driveway, my steering wheel locked up as I made a left. A red steering wheel with exclamation mark popped up on my dashboard and steering wheel was locked. I believe the outcome would have been extremely unsafe If it would have happened on the road, because I had no control of steering
2017 Hyundai Sonata with Theta II engine received knock sensor detection software update 7/30/19. Engine knock increased substantially during August and September of 2022 with periodic, partial loss of power at idling and significant oil consumption. Dealership initiated oil consumption testing 9/24/22. On 11/2/22, vehicle fully stalled with blue smoke from exhaust during slow-speed turn in normal driving conditions. Owner and child in vehicle were uninjured. Dealership unable to replicate stall or identify error codes. Dealership's 11/11/22 oil consumption test identified excessive oil consumption. Dealership cleaned combustion chamber. Vehicle experienced partial stall 12/15/22 at moderate speed in normal driving conditions. Dealership performed final oil consumption test 12/20/22 and reported normal oil consumption (.25 quart in 1,000 miles).
The power steering stop working and the wheel it's hard to manuver. Very difficult to make turns
I purchased a brand new Hyundai Sonata SE in 2017. After 1.5 years, I took a 3-4 hour road trip from Houston to Longview, TX. During that trip, my steering wheel locked and I could not turn the wheel as my traction and steering wheel light lit up on my dashboard. To remedy the problem, I had to turn the engine off and back on. There was no accident but there could have been since I was driving amongst other vehicles on the interstate. This was the first of many scary incidents with my locked steering wheel. I've reported and submitted this complaint to Hyundai but they have done nothing to remedy the problem. The Hyundai dealership explained they cannot do anything unless there diagnostic machine can detect the problem. I explained that it normally happens while I'm driving and that there are several online and Youtube reviews of other 2017 Hyundai Sonata vehicle owners with the same issue. I also showed the traction and steering wheel lights that come on when the steering wheel locks. Still there was nothing they could do. The vehicle is getting increasingly worse as I now must turn it off and on three times before the steering wheel unlocks. This is a danger to myself, my children, pedestrians, and other drivers. The steering wheel locks unexpectedly and without warning. I facilitate large groups and happen to mention my issue with the 2017 Hyundai Sonata today. They were alarmed about the dangers to myself and others while driving the 2017 Hyundai Sonata SE. I explained that it was previously reported to Hyundai and NHTSA but nothing was done to remedy the problem. The group encouraged me to report it again. I'm doing so with little to no confidence that mentioning it will do anything. It may take someone or people being killed or seriously hurt before anything is done. I can't afford another vehicle and need it for transportation. Otherwise I would have purchased another brand of vehicle.
The steering wheel began making a clicking and crunching sound in June 2022. Happening inconsistently the issue was not looked into right away. In October 2022 the issue escalated with the power steering disengaging completely when the wheel was making the noise. The steering wheel becomes so hard and immovable, locking all most. The steering wheel waning light comes on and hydroplane slippery warning as well. The engine also shudders and turns off sometimes when cold and warm.
In October 2022 my power steering failed as I turned into the drop off circle at my child's school. The traction light and another hazard light came on and function did not return until vehicle was restarted. I know experience clicking sounds coming from steering system when ever I turn 90 degrees or more. My vehicle barely has 44000 miles and clearly is experiencing the same manufacturing defect that hundreds of owners have reported here. There need to be an emergency recall to prevent anyone from getting hurt or even worse. Steering is a necessary function when you have such a massive piece of machinery to control. If Hyundai ignores this issue it is clear they are ok with having weapons out on the road that were supposed to be quality vehicles. Once you can't control a vehicle it becomes a weapon and since this issue seems to correct itself although it leaves defects afterwards people can't determine when it will happen again. I need my car and have children. Hyundai be the company you advertise as, this is showing you have no concern for your customers safety.
About a year ago during an extended freeway drive I noticed my engine started to sound different. I checked the oil and found it was a quart low which had never happened before. I filled the oil to its proper level and continued driving. About 100 miles later I decided to check the oil again and found it had used about 1/4 quart. Later my check engine light came on and it showed a code related to failed exhaust sensors. Since then I have had to check and fill the oil every 100 miles or so and now carry 5 quarts of oil in the trunk. I also noticed that my exhaust leaves an oil mark on the ground if I leave the engine running for a couple of minutes. I checked for oil leaks and didn't find any. My miles per gallon reading is also down. Seems to use most oil during freeway driving. I worry the engine could fail at any time and have been forced to restrict my driving to short local trips. I had the knock sensor installed per Hyundai's recall. Hyundai refuses to cover an oil consumption test.
I had just come off the interstate and was driving down a side road when my steering wheel became locked ( very hard to steer) and warning lights on the dashboard came on. It has happened two separate times.
As I am driving, at random times, typically at cruising speeds of about 40 mph or less, the STEERING wheel will lock up and I will be unable to STEER the vehicle until I turn the car off and back on again. There are typically some warning lights (i’ll try to attach the picture) that pop up and go away once the car is turned off and back on again. No dealership that I have taken it to has been able to diagnose the problem since it does not, to my disdain, occur under their watch (it is not reproduced). This issue puts both my life and EVERYONE in my proximity’s life at risk as I have NO CONTROL of the vehicle once it locks up. At this point it has occurred for over 2 years that I have had this car. There are some warning signs right before it occurs. First, there is typically a sudden change in the resistance of the steering wheel. Particularly, it will become harder to move the steering wheel left but then turning it right will have NO resistance. As soon as this occurs I start to panic because it indicates that ANY turn at that point will lock the steering wheel. It has occurred this way every single time. Sometimes it happens in the opposite direction and the right side becomes stiff and suddenly any turn in the steering locks it up. This is VERY dangerous and can potentially kill. This model needs to be recalled!
Airbags did not deploy when involved in a 30mph front end collision. Driver sustained injuries from seatbelt and whiplash.
Engine is consuming lots of oil. There are recalls on Sonatas but mine is not included, although I have a 2017 Hyundai Sonata Sport with a 2.4L Theta Engine produced in Alabama which are engines that are having defects with oil consumption. 2-3 months I was trying to get car into a dealership for inspection of engine because I kept having to add oil. They would not provide a loaner & I could not afford a rental at time or go without a car. In October 2022, I had to I take car to Hyundai in Trenton, NJ because engine light came on & car was jumping. Spark plug in cylinder 4 blew from low oil. On report from dealership that's exactly what is written on it. They replaced spark plug & got approval to start oil consumption testing. Had to drive 1,000 miles. Returned car & was missing 3 quarts of oil. Had to drive another 1,000 miles, 3 quarts of oil missing again. They performed top engine cleaning saying that could help eliminate the problem. I drove 1,000 miles after cleaning & was still missing 3 quarts of oil. In January 2023, dealership told me they'd put request through for a new engine. I called 1 month later giving plenty of time to have a response. They didn't put request through. Said I need to do more testing & had to leave my car there for a few days with no loaner provided. Why didn't they tell me this 1 month prior & why has no one called me to inform me of this. I can not afford a rental, miss work & my child miss school. We missed a ton since dealing with this issue & I've put out over $1,000 on rentals, oil, damages, deductibles, etc since this started. I contacted a Hyundai case manager & they are still going back & forth with dealership 2 months later. My car is obviously burning a lot of oil & after 3 tests & 6 months I should not have to go through this. In the last 1 1/2 months, I've had to replace spark plug in cylinder 1 twice & cylinder 4 once & constantly have to add oil. My cars shows ALL symptoms of the current issue with engines.
While driving the electric power steering locked and I couldn’t turn while driving. Hit curb and someone’s personal property. I was so frustrated because there wasn’t anything I could do. The steering locks up and you can’t move it.
2017 Hyudai Sonata. Paint peeling off roof right above front window - paint is listed as W8 - white color. It has about 44k miles. Numerous complaints about the paint on the internet and hyundai forums.
