This page combines three types of NHTSA data: recall campaigns (official manufacturer or government actions), owner complaints (unverified consumer reports), and crash test ratings (where available). A vehicle with many complaints is not necessarily less reliable — complaint volume correlates with sales volume and vehicle age. Recalls indicate identified defects, not overall quality. To compare this model year with others, use the year navigation in the sidebar or return to the model overview page.
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2017 Infinity QX80. The contact discovered a mileage discrepancy after the purchase. The vehicle was a private sale. The seller had an LLC. At the time of purchase, the mileage was 90,743. It was later discovered that the mileage on the Title was 175,074 on January 6, 2026. The third-party warranty company that the contact hired discovered the discrepancy and informed the contact that the vehicle had a branded title.
Automatic emergency braking system phantom braking; Several different times now, on the road; at low speed causing sudden stopping in traffic; after pulling over the emergency stopping system turned off but the transmission locked up in one gear; drive on in a fixed gear and after several miles transmission unlocked and vehicle returned to normal; Have not gone to dealer No components have been inspected; Engine light came on and then later turned off when it began running correctly again. Four or five times in the last 12 months
I am writing to report serious safety concerns regarding my 2017 Infiniti QX80. The vehicle has exhibited two primary issues: 1. Unintended Braking: The vehicle has a tendency to suddenly and unexpectedly brake, particularly when driving over specific road surfaces, such as brick-paved intersections. This behavior is extremely dangerous as it can lead to accidents, especially in high-traffic areas. Such abrupt braking can cause the vehicle to lurch forward, potentially leading to rear-end collisions. 2. Frequent Battery Drain and Failure: The vehicle's battery drains rapidly, requiring frequent replacement. Despite multiple visits to the dealership and attempts at repair, the issue persists. This problem significantly compromises the vehicle's reliability and can leave the driver stranded, particularly in emergency situations. I have taken the vehicle to an authorized Infiniti dealership multiple times to address these issues. While the dealership has attempted repairs, the problems have persisted. The frequency and severity of these issues pose a significant safety risk to myself and other drivers. I urge the NHTSA to investigate these issues and take appropriate action to ensure the safety of all 2017 Infiniti QX80 owners.
The air bag light started flashing. The only thing that I did was have the vehicle oil change and air filters changed. Per the warranty Air Bags are excluded. If the airbags have not deployed or been serviced, there would be no reason to blink unless defective. It costs $2500 for a possible fix and if that doesn’t solve the problem it will cost for the next step and so on. Why is this not a manufacturer issue?
Made a right hand turn and vehicle shut off in traffic barley got into turn lane and vehicle died in the middle of the road, just got lucky a state trooper was behind us to hold traffic off.. would not restart no power, dead battery, put a jumper on the vehicle and it started enough to get out of immediate danger. After replacing a burned up alternator and battery twice it was found the battery current sensor was bad.
2/28/2023 was driving on freeway during a Rainey night truck suddenly spurned out of control were i could not control the wheel truck hydroplaned in to the center divider of the freeway and crashed in to the wall when the front driver side air bag never deployed but the passenger side air bag did did deployed all side passenger air bags were deployed .. but no driver side air bag deployment at all witch i suffered lots of bruising to upper body and lower body /face and head ...
Vehicle acting as a non conforming testing asset running in Factory Debug Mode (Unit ID: 01). This also shows and caused systemic U1000 Electrical Network Jam from an obsolete/unconfigured 2G TCU. Critical Failures: Airbags disabled showing current codes B0022-13(Left), B002A-13(Right) prove the primary curtain airbags are open/offline and won't deploy. Adaptive System Failure: Around View Monitor running Alpha Software(000154) which fails to lock out forward camera at highway speeds creating driver distraction. Ignition Hijack: Code B2401(Ignition Open) allowed vheichle to "Ghost Start" and recognize keys even when sealed in Faraday pouces. Voltage trauma: Sysemic VB Low (B142A-16) prevents vehicle from entering sleep mode, causing persistent network noise. The vehicle was sold as retail but remains in "Unconfigured" Manufacturing state Code: U122A-05. This violates FMVSS 208 and 49 USC Section 30112. AV Control Unit reveals Unit ID 01 and switch software 11401. It remains unconfigured in dubug mode Code: U122A-05, which should have never been for sale FMVSS208. Despite the airbags disabled and network jam codes, Matt Bowers Infiniti Advisor attempted to release vehicle with fraud estimate of $9930.75 for unrelated hardware, and overwrite EEPROM evidence of debug mode. Mfg misclassified VIN as Body: LL to bypass 2017 Nissan Shatai Kyushu Inspection Scandal protocols. This Zombie state facilitates a cyber physical breach (Mac:Private), via unpatched 2015 Bluetooth stack (C201), resulting in massive data exfiltration, possibly part of 25year business loss and now identity theft. Because of that please redact all personal identifiers from public record of this complaint
The contact owns a 2017 Infiniti QX 80. The contact stated that while driving at an undetermined speed, the front passenger’s side air bag deployed without warning or impact. The driver was able to park the vehicle and after exiting the vehicle, the remaining air bags deployed. There were no reported injuries. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Infiniti QX80. The contact stated while driving approximately 10-50 MPH in stop-and-go traffic, the vehicle loss motive power and stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to several unknown dealers to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the TCU (Telematics Communication Unit) and ECM were faulty. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
The passenger air bag system is apparently designed to disarm when a "small adult or child" sits in the passenger seat. This means each time my wife sits in the passenger seat (she is approx. 120lbs,) the passenger air bag light illuminates and the air bag is disarmed. This then renders one of the key safety features inoperable, and she and I feel very unsafe in the car. However, my research tells me that it is designed to be that way. How can that be legal or permissible? This design is deeply flawed and should be addressed immediately. She should not be endangered purely due to her being the weight she is. Not all Americans are over weight. No other car I own or have owned ever did that, only this Infiniti, and apparently all other Infiniti's.
My battery died and needed a jump start. Shortly after jump starting my vehicle, the airbag light began flashing. The Infiniti dealership in Milwaukee is quoting $3900 to fix this which seems crazy. I don't know if the airbag will even deploy if I get into accident.
This is a very common and well-known issue with 2017 Infiniti QX 80 Vin number [XXX] The car RPMs flutter between 1000 RPMs to 2500 RPMs due to the TCM and EC M/ECU TCU failure to the transmission causing terrible gas mileage vehicle stalls in traffic which can cause accidents and has happened over 10 times to me I have called and reported this as well with you all Infiniti will not earn up to the fact that there is a fault and needs to replace the TCU/ECU/ECM/TCM in order to fix the issue I have an extended warranty and I’ve had to pay infinity dealership over $800 now for three different times for them to reflash these modules which does not correct the problem for longer than a week going back to the same issue it’s been an ongoing problem since we have them in the vehicle and I believe if this is investigated you will find that this is a common issue with almost every Infiniti QX 80 2017 and also some more year makes and models please investigate so consumers can be helped with this issue it’s also a safety concern as yes the vehicle needs acceleration in order to avoid a collision is not possible due to lack of power because the TCM and ECM is not communicating in order to downshift to give the power to the vehicle to get out of the way of a collision I have almost gotten into a wreck several times in stop and go traffic between the Rpm’s listed which are between 1020 500 RPMs as well as gas mileage has cut in half due to this issue and sometimes shifting we get stuck in one year or the other which normally is a higher gear therefore has no power to go we need it sometimes I have to turn the car off at stop signs or stop light in order to restore it so I did not cause a rear end collision by somebody running into me NHTSA serviced bulletin- consumers have to pay for Ben though know issue infiniti won’t take responsibility Reference: Date: AT17-002a ITB17-008a April 18, 2017 2017 QX80SHIFT SHOCK, LACK OF POWER, AND/OR RPM FLUCTUATES INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A THREE LANE ST WITH NO OTHERS CARS NEAR ME. NO CARS IN FRONT OR BEHIND OF ME. WHEN MY SUNROOF EXPLODED.
I TRIED TO OPEN THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE AND I COULD NOT SINCE I DID NOT PRESS LONG ENOUGH. THEN I TRIED TO DO THE SAME FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE BUT AGAIN I COULD NOT SINCE AGAIN I DID NOT HOLD THE BUTTON LONG ENOUGH(I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE FOR MY WIFE AND I WAS DRIVING IT FOR THE SECOND TIME DUE TO SNOW). I THOUGHT MAYBE I SHOULD TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND TRY AGAIN SINCE MY LOGIC WAS IF THE TRUCK IS RUNNING DUE TO SAFETY REASON THE BACK DOOR MIGHT NOT BE OPENING. AS SOON AS I TURNED OFF THE CAR WITH IT STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS SINCE IT WAS ON SLIGHT SLOPE. OUR 3 DAUGHTERS WERE NEARBY AND I WAS SCARED THEY MIGHT BE NEAR THE BACK SIDE BUT THANK GOD THEY WERE ON SIDE OF THE TRUCK. I KEPT RUNNING WITH THE TRUCK TILL I CAN GET IN IT AND STOP IT. I GOT HURT ON MY KNEES AND BLOOD STARTED TO COME BUT I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO STOP IT. I WANT INFINITI TO LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE ASAP SINCE I DON"T WANT ANYONE HURT OR EVEN WORSE. IT IS 2017 INFINITI QX80. SEE ATTACHED VIDEO.THANK YOU. (XXXX) OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. CONSISTENT POPPING NOISE FROM THE REAR AND FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WHICH HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE. THIS ISSUE HAS EFFECT THE OVERALL SAFETY OF ME FAMILY. WHEN DRIVING AT RATE OF SPEED OF ABOUT 40-45MPH THE TRUCK STARTS TO SHAKE MAKING IT VERY HARD TO KEEP CONTROL. MOST RECENTLY WHEN MAKING A TURN I BEGIN TO HEAR A CLICKING NOISE. MY VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS ABOUT 27K MILES AND I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS SINCE I PURCHASED THIS UNITED IN 2017. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM AND STILL TO THIS DAY NO SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON. THIS ISSUE IS VERY UNSAFE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY AND I DEMAND THAT THE MANUFACTURER OF THIS VEHICLE NISSIAN REPLACE MY VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY.
THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY WITH THE WINDSHIELD FACING TOWARD THE STREET. PASSING TRAFFIC EVIDENTLY KICKED UP A ROCK CHIP AND CAUSED THE WINDSHIELD TO CRACK ALL THE WAY DOWN THE MIDDLE. IN MY EXPERIENCE, IT IS NOT TYPICAL FOR A WINDSHIELD TO CRACK FROM THE TOP OF THE GLASS ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE GLASS DUE TO A ROCK STRIKE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY RELATIVE TO THE PROJECTILE.
