2016 JEEP CHEROKEE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DIFFICULTY WITH STOP/START FEATURE ON VEHICLE. *LD THE CONSUMER WAS ADVISED TO REPLACE BATTERY, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK. THE CONSUMER WAS ADVISED THE SOFTWARE. NEEDED TO BE UPDATED *JS THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THAT THE CABIN FILTER WAS NOT MENTIONED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. THE CONSUMER WAS UNAWARE THAT THE CABIN FILTER EXISTED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. *JS
ENORMOUS AMOUNTS OF OIL BURNING UP AND SCOLDING THE CYLINDER WALLS. OIL CHANGE AND GUARANTEED 3000 MILES. LESS THAN 1000 MILES LATER ALL OIL GONE AND CYLINDER WALLS SCORCHED. NO LEAKS AT ALL THE CAUSE THE MISSING OIL. EVERY 1000 MILES DEALER HAVING TO TOP OFF OIL UNTIL NEXT OIL CHANGE.
NUMEROUS TIMES WHILE IN MOTION DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AND FREEWAY, "SERVICE TRANSMISSION" APPEARS ON DASHBOARD FOLLOWED BY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. VEHICLE BEGINS TO LOSE POWER, LOSS OF DRIVE. PRESSING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL DOESN'T WORK. VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE. HAVE HAD TO PULL OVER AND PLACE VEHICLE IN PARK OR TURN THE ENGINE OFF. VEHICLE WILL THEN HAVE POWER AGAIN. ALSO HAVE HAD VEHICLE ATTEMPT TO SHIFT WHILE IN MOTION DRIVING SLOWLY THROUGH A PARKING LOT. WARNING CAME UP ON DASHBOARD STATING YOU HAVE TO BE IN PARK BEFORE SHIFTING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE LOST POWER, LOSS OF DRIVE. HAD TO PARK AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 2014-2017 JEEP CHEROKEES FOR PTU, JULY 2020, NHTSA CAMPAIGN: 20V343000, BUT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. I WAS ADVISED BY FCA TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO MY DEALERSHIP AND HAVE THEM DIAGNOSE ISSUE, BUT WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. I DON'T FEEL THAT IS REASONABLE SINCE MY VEHICLE IS PERFORMING THE WAY THE RECALL SUMMARY DESCRIBES. I AM NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND NOT COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN ONGOING ALL YEAR STARTING JAN 2020 UP UNTIL NOW, SEPT 2020.
SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE APPEARED IN THE CENTER DISPLAY AND IS LOCK IN PLACE, NOT BEING ABLE TO SCROLL THROUGH THE MENUS ANY LONGER. NEXT TO THE SHIFTER ALL LIGHTS FOR SHIFTER POSITION ARE ILLUMINATED AND YOU CANNOT SEE WHICH GEAR THE VEHICLE IS IN ANYMORE FROM LOOKING DOWN AT THE SHIFTER. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES MOSTLY WHILE IN MOTION BUT HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHILE STATIONARY. THE MESSAGE INCLUDING ALL OTHER INDICATIONS CAN GO AWAY WITH A FULL SHUTDOWN.
WHILE IN DRIVE THE JEEP CHEROKEE SPORT (PREMIUM PKG) CAR CUTS OFF IN STREET 3X AND HWY 4X AND ENGINE LIGHT TURNS ON. CAR ALSO LOSES POWER/SPEED WHILE IN DRIVE AND ENGINE LIGHT TURNS ON WHEN MAKING A TURN. CAR LOSES SPEED AND DRIVER IS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE WHILE ON BUSY HWY OR STREET.. BOUGHT CAR NEW WITH 16 MILES ON ODOMETER FROM CHRYSLER JEEP DEALER. MANUFACTURE WARRANTY EXPIRED 2 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS PROBLEM. MILEAGE 63,000 MILES. I HAVE AN EXPENSIVE EXTENDED DEALER WARRANTY. CHRYSLER JEEP DEALER SAYS ENGINE WILL BE REPLACED W/ NO DEDUCTIBLE AND NO ADDL CUSTOMER COST ACCORDING TO DEALER WARRANTY.. OIL GASKETS BLOWN ALSO WITH EXCELLENT SERVICE RECORD AT CHRYSLER JEEP DEALER.. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE AN EXPENSIVE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON A NEW CAR AND HAVE TO REPLACE AN ENGINE FOR A CAR UNDER 5 YEARS OLD. CAR HAS ONE DRIVER 62 YRS OLD, NO ACCIDENTS NO TICKETS IN 15 YEARS THIS IS AWFUL FOR A 3.25 YEAR OLD JEEP!! CAR HAS BEEN AT JEEP DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT SINCE DEC 31, 2019 FOR ENGINE REPLACEMENT.
I WAS SENT A RECALL FOR MY NAVIGATION TO UPGRADE, I WAS SENT A FLASH DRIVE FOR THE UPGRADE AND IT DIDNT WORK. I CALLED THE NUMBER ON THE PAPERWORK AND THEY SAID TO HAVE THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP DO THE UPGRADE BECAUSE THE FLASHDIVE WAS NOT WORKING. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULDNT DO THE UPGRADE BUT FOR 400 DOLLARS THEY COULD FIX MY USB PORT SO THEY COULD UPGRADE THE SOFTWARE AND THEY KEPT THE RECALL PAPERWORK SO NOW I DONT HAVE THE NUMBER TO CALL AND TELL THEM IT'S NOT DONE AND WHEN I ENTER MY VIN IT SAYS ALL RECALLS ARE FINISHED.
MOTOR BLEW UP AT 72000 MILES, SMOKE FILLED INTERIOR OF VEHICLE MAKING NAVIGATION IMPOSSIBLE AND REAR TIRE WAS PUNCTURED BY MOTOR PARTS CAUSING VEHICLE TO LEAVE ROADWAY, INFORMED FIAT/CHRYSLER OF THE ISSUE OF MOTOR FAILING TO CYCLE OIL CAUSING MAJOR FAILURE OF COMPONENTS, THEY ARE AWARE OF ENGINE ISSUES YET REFUSE RESPONSIBILITY. MOTOR REPLACED AT COST OF 6,300. NO WARRANTY ON VEHICLE.
DRIVING AT NIGHT IN THE RAIN ON THE HIGHWAY 60 MPH. LOST POWER STEERING, BRAKES, FORWARD WARNING COLLISION AND OTHER CONTROLS. LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE CRASH INTO THE EMBANKMENT. ALMOST ROLLED THE VEHICLE. DEALER STATED STEERING MODULAR FAILED AND REPLACED STEERING RACK AND PINON SYSTEM. DEALER STATED 12 ACTIVE COMPUTER CODES SHUT DOWN ALL OF ABOVE FUNCTIONS. DEALER STATED COMPUTER STEERING COMPUTER MODULE FAILED CAUSING STEERING AND OTHER FUNCTIONS TO FAIL.
SPEEDOMETER READING IS OFF... CAUSED SPEEDING TICKET, BECAUSE I DIDN'T REALIZE I WAS SPEEDING BECAUSE OF THE SPEEDOMETER READING WAS OFF. OFFICER SAID HE CLOCKED ME AT 94 MPH IN 70MPH, THOUGHT I WAS GOING 73....IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY
SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT CAME ON AND GEAR SHIFT LIGHTS ARE ALL RED,P,R,N,D. LOOKS LIKE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND PRODUCT FLAW. NOT SURE HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO COMPLAIN BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE.
WHILE DRIVING 30MPH IN LIGHT TRAFFIC SUDDENLY AND OUT OF NOWHERE SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE COMES ON HUD. VEHICLE HAS 24K MILES ALL THE RED LIGHTS LIGHT UP ON SHIFTER COLUMN. AFTER RESEARCHING HUNDREDS OF JEEP OWNERS HAVE SAME ISSUE. WIRING HARNESS SHORT AND ENTIRE FLOOR SHIFTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. PROBLEM REPEATS FOR MANY PEOPLE. SOME HAVE HAD TO BRING CAR IN SEVERAL TIMES WITH RECURRING PROBLEM - SHOULD BE A RECALL
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART HOWEVER, THERE WAS A DELAY AND AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO KEYS AUTO CENTER (1618 N ROOSEVELT BLVD, KEY WEST, FL 33040) WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

SIMILAR TO OTHER JEEP CHEROKEE YEAR MODELS, MY 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE SLIPS OUT OF GEAR INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING, EITHER BETWEEN 1ST TO 2ND GEAR OR 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. MAKES FOR A DANGEROUS RIDE WITH MY 2 CHILDREN IN BACK AND THE CAR BASICALLY STOPS WORKING AND CARS IN BACK OF ME HAVE TO SLAM THEIR BRAKES SO TO NOT RUN INTO ME. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY, WHETHER CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR 10 MINUTES OR JUST STARTED.
VEHICLE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. TOOK TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP. CODE SHOWS THERMOSTAT STUCK OPEN. AT ~40,000 MILES. REPAIR WAS OVER $700.
'SERVICE SHIFTER' MESSAGE CAME ON & ALL RED LIGHTS ON SHIFTER TREE WHILE ON THE FREEWAY NO LESS! IT DOES HAPPEN ANYWHERE. 2016 JEEP AWD LATTITUDE. THEY REPLACED THE SHIFTER AND WIRING HARNESS ONCE ALREADY. A FEW MONTH LATER IT CAME BACK ON. TOOK IT IN AND THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. BUT IT IS STILL COMING ON.
SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT APPEARS WHILE DRIVING OFTEN; I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY FINDING RESULTING IN A SOLUTION TO THE ERROR (AS IT DISAPPEARS AND COMES BACK ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS). OFTEN WHEN THE SERVICE SHIFTER APPEARS IT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO JOLT OR NOT SHIFT
I WAS STOPPED ON A BUSY MAIN ROAD IN MY TOWN, TO MAKE A LEFT INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND MY JEEP CHEROKEE STALLED. THE DASH LIT UP WITH PUT IN PARK AND RESTART CAR. I PUT IT IN PARK AND THE CAR RESTARTED. I DROVE TO MY HOUSE AND PARKED THE CAR. I HAD TO USE MY OTHER CAR TO GO TO WORK BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID FOR MY SAFETY IF I DROVE MY JEEP CHEROKEE.
WHEN DRIVING MY 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE THE VEHICLE HAS DIED OUT COMPLETELY ON ME IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. WHILE DRIVING THERE IS A DING NOISE FOLLOWED BY A MESSAGE ON MY DASH BOARD THAT SAYS PUT CAR IN PARK THEN SWITCH INTO GEAR, WHEN I AM ALREADY IN DRIVE AND DRIVING THEN THE CAR STOPS AND THE BRAKES AND STEERING LOCKS UP COMPLETELY THE BATTERY LIGHT FLASHES THEN THE WHOLE DASH GOES BLACK. THEN I HAVE TO TRYING TURNING IT OVER A FEW TIMES AND THEN IT WILL FINALLY START WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS ON OR ANYTHING AFTER IT JUST LOCKED UP AND DIED. THIS VEHICLE HAS DIED SEVERAL TIMES ON ME WHILE TURNING RIGHT, WHILE JUST DRIVING, AND IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THERE IS NO INDICATION OF THIS HAPPENING AS FAR AS CODES THAT CAN BE BROUGHT UP OR ANYTHING BUT WHEN HE TEST DROVE IT THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO HIM HE MADE A RIGHT ON 12-31 AND THE CAR SAID PUT CAR IN PARK THEN SELECT A GEAR THEN WENT BLACK AND THEN IT TOOK A FEW TIMES FOR THE CAR TO TURN OVER AGAIN, BUT YET AGAIN TURNING ON WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ANYTHING AFTER, BUT COME TO FIND ONLINE THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT JEEP HAS NOT ADDRESSED AND THERE SEEMS TO BE NO SOLUTION BESIDES BEING IN CONSTANT FEAR THAT YOU CAR IS GOING TO DIE OUT ON YOU. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE THERE ARE LIVES TAKEN. I HAVE A TWO YOUNG TODDLER DAUGHTERS THAT I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING IN OUR 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE IN FEAR FOR THEIR LIVES!

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP. VEHICLE HAS APPROX. 38,000 MILES AND THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING ASSEMBLY IS MALFUNCTIONING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. TOLD BY DEALERSHIP THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH 2015/2016 CHEROKEES BETWEEN 30,000 AND 40,000 MILES. VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. IF THIS IS SUCH A COMMON OCCURRENCE, SHOULDN'T THIS BE A RECALL? IF IGNORED, THIS COULD LEAD TO SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE.

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO MORIAN CHRYSLER JEEP (374 SIEMERS DR, CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO 63701) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE WITH THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MORIAN CHRYSLER JEEP (374 SIEMERS DR, CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO 63701) THREE OTHER TIMES FOR ELECTRICAL FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
APPROX. 68,000 MILES, OWNED FOR 3 YEARS, REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION. VEHICLE IN MOTION ON CITY STREETS TURNS TO NEUTRAL AFTER THE FIRST FEW RIGHT TURNS. GEAR SHIFTER AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTS TO NEUTRAL AFTER THE CAR'S WARNING SYSTEM READS "SHIFT TO PARK" WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE AND IN MOTION. TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER MUST PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART IT, HOWEVER THE BATTERY LIGHT FLASHES. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES IN AS MANY WEEKS, ALL WHILE IN TRAFFIC. WHEN TAKEN TO JEEP DEALERSHIP MECHANIC, NO CODE SHOWS UP ON OBD. AFTER ONLINE RESEARCH, MANY OWNERS OF JEEP WRANGLERS, (AS WELL AS LATITUDES) HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE. THERE IS A CONSENSUS IT MAY BE A RESULT OF A POORLY IMPLEMENTED FAILSAFE THAT JEEP INSTALLED WHEN THE ENGINE OIL IS LOW. ALLEGEDLY, ON JEEPS WITH CERTAIN ENGINES (2.4L) THEY BURN OIL AT A HIGHER RATE THAN WHAT THE ONBOARD COMPUTERS CAN GAGE. IT APPEARS THAT JEEP DEALERSHIPS FEIGN IGNORANCE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE ABOUT 7 MONTH AGO. I TOOK A TRIP TO DALLAS TEXAS IN IT, ON THE DRIVE THERE THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND ALL WAS WELL. I HAVE CONTINUALLY HAVING THE PROBLEM WITH THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT COME ON, AND HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO BE SERVICE AND THEY CAN FIND A PROBLEM. JUST IN THE LAST 5 DAYS THE SERVICE SHIFTER INDICATOR HAD COME ON 12 TIME.
SERVICE SHIFTER INDICATOR COMES ON- SOLID RED LIGHTS APPEAR ON THE SHIFTER IN EVERY GEAR. COMES ON EVERY COUPLE OF DAYS. CARGURUS HAS SEVERAL PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. DEALERSHIPS SEEM TO NOT REALLY KNOW WHAT THE REAL PROBLEM IS, REPLACING ENGINES, TRANSMISSIONS, SHIFTERS- ONLY TO HAVE THE PROBLEM COME BACK FOR THESE FOLKS. CLEARLY, A RECALL IS IN ORDER. I AM CONCERNED IF I TAKE MINE IN, I WILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE OTHERS, PRICE GOUGED- WITH NO REAL SOLUTION. ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO WHILE DRIVING THE CAR CHIMED AND THE MESSAGE "SERVICE SHIFTER" APPEARED ON THE SCREEN ALONG WITH ALL LIGHTS NEXT TO SHIFTER TO LIGHT UP RED. THE VEHICLE HAS TO TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED TO RESET. NOW THE SAME THING KEEPS HAPPENING. THIS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE THE OVER THE AIR UPDATE. EXTREMELY IRRITATING AND SCARY THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED THANK GOD I WASN'T IN AN ACCIDENT LIKE OTHER REPORTS HAVE NOTED. JEEP NEEDS TO RECALL THIS ISSUE AND FIX IT!!!
I WAS IN A CAR WRECK ON NOV 21ST AND HIT MY FRONT END AT 65 MPH. MY SEAT BELT DID NOT TIGHTEN AND MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. EVENT 1 (NOV 2019) WAS PASSING A CAR, GOING 68 ON FREEWAY, GOT INTO RIGHT LANE BACKED MY FOOT OFF THE GAS TO SLOW A BIT AND THE CAR STAYED IN "PASSING GEAR" REVVED UP HIGH ON THE TACH. AND WOULD NOT COME BACK DOWN UNTIL I TOOK MY FOOT COMPLETELY OFF THE GAS. EVENT 2 (NOV 18, 2019) STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, APPLIED GAS TO GO AND IT WENT NOWHERE. THE ENGINE SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS GOING FAST, BUT I WAS NOT IN GEAR. I HAD TO TAKE MY FOOT COMPLETELY OFF THE GAS, THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD WITH TWO QUICK HOPS A COUPLE OF TIMES THEN WENT INTO GEAR. EVENT 3 (NOV 20, 2019) GOING SLOW IN A PARKING LOT THE CAR JUST DIED ON ME. NO REASON. THIS JEEP HAS ONLY 28,000 MILES ON IT. IT SHIFTS HARD!! ACTUALLY GOES INTO GEAR AT TIMES SO ROUGH THAT IT MAKES ME LUNGE FORWARD, IT JERKS A LOT WHILE GOING SLOW LIKE IT'S NOT IN THE RIGHT GEAR. I AM GOING TO JEEP TOMORROW TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT, BUT AFTER READING ALL THESE COMPLAINTS, I SEE WHERE I MIGHT BE IN FOR A LONG HAUL.
I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR MONTH, AND THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES. WHEN IDLING AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF AND CAN'T BE TURNED BACK ON FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. DASHBOARD AND TOUCHSCREEN GO BLACK AND CAN'T EVEN TURN ON HAZARDS TO ALERT PEOPLE BEHIND YOU.
IN MY CHEROKEE THE SERVICE SHIFTER INDICATOR CAME ON. ALL THE POSITIONS ON THE SHIFTER LITE UP (P,R,D AND THE + -) THIS APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. I LOOKED AT SEVERAL OTHER COMMENTS ON LINE. I WAS LEAVING A DRIVE IN AND WHEN I PUT IT IN REVERSE EVERYTHING TURNED RED AND THE SERVICE SHIFTER ILLUMINATED IN MY MESSAGE CENTER. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. WHEN I GOT HOME I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON EVERYTHING WAS BACK TO NORMAL. I HAD A ISSUE RIGHT AFTER I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. IT WAS STUCK IN PARK AND HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. I BELIEVE THE MILEAGE WAS AROUND 2000 MILES. I CURRENTLY HAVE APPROXIMATELY 83000 MILE ON THE VEHICLE.
MY REAR GLASS WINDSHIELD BURST WHEN HEATING UP USING REMOTE START. I'VE READ MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING WITH JEEPS AS WELL AS FORD TRUCKS. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL! CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT WAS ENGINEERED FAULTY.

WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WITH A SPEED LIMIT OF 65 MPH AND HEAVY TRAFFIC, ALL OF THE SUDDEN MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF 3RD GEAR. ONCE I REACHED AROUND 40MPH AND TRIED TO ACCELERATE I FELT KNOCK AND SHAKING. THE ENGINE WOULD CONTINUE TO REV, HOWEVER NO ACCELERATION OR SHIFTING WOULD HAPPEN. IT BEGINS TO SPUTTER AND FEELS AS THOUGHT THE VEHICLE IS GOING TO SHUT OFF.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET THEN WENT TO TAKE A LEFT AND MY CAR SHUT OFF. I GOT IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TRIED TO START IT,WOULD NOT START. I THEN WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND TRIED AGAIN AND IT STARTED LUCKILY I WAS CLOSE TO HOME AND CALLED TOW TRUCK AND THEY BROUGHT IT TO DEALERSHIP FOUND OUT IS BURNING OIL ONLY HAD 35;698 MILES AND WHEN THE CAR GETS DOWN TWO QUARTS OF OIL THESE CARS WILL SHUT DOWN WITH NO NOTICE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED. NO DASH LIGHT COMES ON.
THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED SEVEN TIMES NOW IN THE LAST MONTH. MOST RECENT WAS ON 11/14/2019. WHILE DRIVING (IN MOTION) ABOUT 25 MPH IN RESIDENTIAL AREA, JEEP TURNS OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. ERROR MESSAGE POPS UP ON DASHBOARD TO "SHIFT TO P THEN DESIRED GEAR" (SEE PHOTO). I AM ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT CAR HAS TO BE TURNED COMPLETELY OFF. IT TAKES A COUPLE OF TIRES TO RESTART THE ENGINE. UNKNOWN AS TO WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY CODES AND TO LET THEM KNOW IF PROBLEMS CONTINUES. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS I COULD HAVE BEEN ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND CAUSED AN ACCIDENT.
I HAVE THE 2.4L IN MY CHEROKEE. THE SAME AS OTHER JEEP MODELS AND I HAVE HAD THE SAME OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE THAT THIS ENGINE LINE HAS. JEEP JUST SHUT OFF AND HAD TO RESTART. NO WARNING OR LIGHTS ON DASH TO INDICATE LOW OIL. I HAD JUST A DROP OF OIL ON THE DIPSTICK. ONLY DROVE JUST OVER 5000 MILES. DEALER SAID ITS NORMAL TO BURN OIL AND FCA KNOWS ABOUT THE ISSUE BUT WILL NOT REPAIR. THEY SAY ABOUT 70% OF THE 2.4 ARE AFFECTED ACROSS ALL MODELS. WITH ALL THE ISSUES I SEE ON FORUMS AND SOCIAL MEDIA IT SEEMS SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE BEFORE WE GET TO THE THRESHOLD OF UNACCEPTABLE ACCIDENTS AND DEATH. ALL MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN DONE AT A FCA DEALER. HARD TO BELIEVE IT JUST STARTED TO BURN OIL.

CEI P0128 COOLANT TEMPERATURE TOO COLD. HAVING TO REPLACE THERMOSTAT ON A CAR ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. TEMPS HAVE NOT BEEN BELOW FREEZING & DIDN'T HAVE THIS ISSUE LAST WINTER. THERMOSTAT IS STUCK OPEN SO GAS CONSUMPTION HAS INCREASED & HEAT HAS DECREASED.
DROVE CAR FOR ONLY 2-3 BLOCKS AFTER SITTING 8 HOURS WHILE AT WORK (FIRST TIME 11/12/19 - OUTSIDE TEMP IN THE 30'S) AND THE SECOND TIME OVERNIGHT IN UNHEATED GARAGE (11/23/19 - OUTSIDE TEMPS IN THE 30'S), WHILE TURNING RIGHT AT A STOPLIGHT TO ENTER ON TO A MAJOR ARTERY (FIRST TIME) AND A STOP-SIGN TO ENTER ONTO A RESIDENTIAL STREET (SECOND TIME) THE CAR SHUT ITSELF OFF COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. BOTH TIMES CAR WAS NOT "WARMED-UP" BEFORE DRIVING. CONTACTED A LOCAL CHRYSLER/JEEP DEALER WHO GOT US IN FOR CHECK-UP 11/27/19 AND EVENTUALLY SAID THE ENGINE OIL WAS BELOW THE DIPSTICK AND IF THE OIL GETS TOO LOW THE ENGINE WILL GET HOT AND TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE THE CAR WILL SHUT DOWN AUTOMATICALLY. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE DESPITE US TRAVELING FOR THE PAST 4 SUMMERS APPROXIMATELY 4000 MILES FROM KANSAS CITY TO YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK AND BACK, AND THE SUMMER OF 2018 TO YELLOWSTONE, SEATTLE AND BACK (TOTAL OF OVER 5000 MILES AND EACH TIME NOT GETTING ANOTHER OIL CHANGE FOR OVER ANOTHER MONTH TO 5 MONTHS OF CITY DRIVING ONCE WE GOT BACK HOME. THE LAST OIL CHANGE WE HAD BEFORE THESE TWO INCIDENTS REFERENCED ABOVE WAS ON JULY 19, 2019 AND THE MILEAGE WAS 53191. THE MILEAGE ON THE CAR NOW IS 56916. TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT THAT WE'VE PROBABLY DRIVEN ABOUT 150 MILES SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT UNTIL RIGHT NOW, THAT MEANS WE'RE "DOWN" 1 QUART/1800 MILES. RESEARCHING "GOOGLE", THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER CHEROKEE OWNERS OF 2016 OR OTHER YEAR MODELS OF THE SAME ISSUE. THEY SAY JEEP FEELS 1 QUART OF OIL USED/1000MILES OF DRIVING IS ACCEPTABLE. EVEN SO, MY CONCERN IS WHY MY VEHICLE IS SUDDENLY EXPERIENCING THIS POWER LOSS AND OIL USAGE WHEN FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS (PURCHASED CAR 10/31/2015) IT HAS NEVER BEEN AN ISSUE. ONE OIL CHANGE MILEAGE WAS OVER 7500 MILES AND YET WE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. THE OIL LIGHT HAS NEVER COME ON TO WARN OF LOW OIL PRESSURE.
ENGINE FAILURE WHILE GOING AROUND A BEND. STEERING COMPLETELY LOCKED UP AND BREAKS WERE NONE FUNCTIONAL. THANK GOD I WAS ONLY TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 15MHP IN TOWN AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY COST OUT OF THE WAY OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. MY DASHBOARD SAID SHIFT TO P (PARK) AND THEN DESIRED GEAR AND THE BATTERY LIGHT ILLUMINATED. I TRIED TO RESTART IN PARK BUT JEEP WOULD NOT START. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES MY JEEP STARTED BACK UP AND RAN NORMAL. MY CONCERN IS IF I WAS DRIVING 70MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE TRUCK (WHICH I HAVE TO DO EVERYDAY AS I WORK OUT OF TOWN) WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED??? WOULD I EVEN BE WRITING THIS RIGHT NOW? THERE WAS NO WARNINGS, NO LIGHTS ON, NO INDICATION MY ENGINE WOULD FAIL WHILE ENGAGED WHAT SO EVER. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN!
WHILE LEAVING MY OFFICE AND MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN THE CAR COMPLETELY STOPPED MID TURN. THERE WAS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, NO BATTERY LIGHT APPEARED AND THE DASH ,RADIO AND HEAD LIGHTS WERE STILL ON. A MESSAGE APPEARED IN MY DASH TELLING ME TO SHIFT INTO PARK AND THEN SHIFT INTO THE DESIRED GEAR. I THEN PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TRIED TO RESTART IT 3 TIMES BEFORE IT STARTED AGAIN. NOW THE CAR DOES THIS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AFTER BEING TOLD BY A PROFESSIONAL THAT THEY CAN'T PIN POINT THE ISSUE.
SERVICE SHIFTER APPEARED AND I RESET BY PULLING OVER SHUTTING OFF VEHICLE, OPENING DOOR AND RE-INSERT KEY AND START. WAS HAPPENING ONCE A MONTH, NOW HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE. CAN'T VIEW ANY VEHICLE INFORMATION AS IT FREEZES THE SCREEN. HAPPENS REGARDLESS OF WHERE I AM DRIVING. WILL EVEN HAPPEN ON A REMOTE START SITTING IDLE.
2016 JEEP CHEROKEE APPROX. 58,000 MILES BEGAN SHUTTING DOWN WHILE EXITING THE PARKING GARAGE, STALLED OUT SEVERAL TIMES AND STEERING AND ALL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WAS LOST. TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND AFTER RUNNING DIAGNOSTIC WAS TOLD THAT NOTHING COULD BE FOUND TO BE WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. DID NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR A WEEK AND WHEN IT WAS DRIVEN AGAIN BEGAN DISPLAYING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH COMPLETE SHUT DOWN. AFTER SOME INVESTIGATION ON THIS WEB SITE AND OTHERS, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE DUE TO THE BUILT IN KILL SWITCH TO PROTECT THE ENGINE WHEN THE OIL IS LOW. I CHECKED THE OIL AND IT WAS INDEED LOW. PRIOR TO THIS FAILURE, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED WITH ALL RECOMMENDED OIL CHANGES AND PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE. JEEP/CHRYSLERS SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM-CHECK YOUR OIL MORE OFTEN! I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH MY DAUGHTER AND MY DOG WITH ME AND HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL SET TO 75 MPH. THERE IS A PART OF THE HIGHWAY WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT DROPS TO 65 MPH SO I SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN TO 64 MPH WHEN IT SUDDENLY REVVED UP TO 5000 RPMS AND HIT 75 MPH AGAIN. THE CAR HAS BEEN SURGING LATELY BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS FROM THE WEATHER GETTING COLDER. THE CAR ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, ESPECIALLY TO 5000 RPMS, I KNOW IS NOT JUST THE WEATHER. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG AND I HAVE ONLY MADE 1 PAYMENT ON IT ABOUT TO PAY MY 2ND ONE. I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR AUGUST 21, 2019 SO THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING ALREADY. ALSO THERE IS A RATTLING IN THE ENGINE.

WE HAD TO PLACE IT INTO PARK AND RESTART THE CAR TO GET IT TO MOVE BACK INTO GEAR. THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE. THE DEALER CANNOT FIND THE ISSUE AND WILL NOT TAKE THE TIME TO DUPLICATE. THEY SHOW NO INTEREST ON TRYING TO SOLVE THE ISSUE, JUST PASSING THE BUCK.

THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

THE PROBLEM STARTS AT 20MP / 40 MPH AND AT TIME AT 60MPH. I HAVE BROUGH IT BACK TO ALLEN MELLO IN NASHUA WHERE I HAD BOUGHT THE JEEP AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CAN'T GET FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. THE HOOKED UP MACHINE TO SEE THEY CAN GET A CODE AND NO CODE IS BEING DETECTED. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE NOVEMBER 2019 AND I HAVE ABOUT ENOUGH. I KNOW THEY IS A JEEP RECALL ON FUEL PUMP AND I AM CERTAIN THAT MY JEEP WAS MISSED. THIS IS A SERIOUS MATTER WITH THE JEEP. I CALLED THE JEEP RECALL TODAY 1-27-20 AND THEY ADVISED ME TO NOTIFIED NHTSA REGARDING THIS MATTER.... THEY ALSO SAID LIKE I STATE ABOVE MY 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE PROBABLY WAS MISSED TO BE ON THE RECALL.
SERVICE SHIFTER CODE WHICH WAS DIAGNOSED AS NEEDING A NEW SHIFTER HARNESS AND BEZEL COSTING ME $462 +TAX. THE MESSAGE BOARDS SHOW NUMEROUS JEEP OWNERS HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH BRAND NEW JEEPS. THE GRAND CHEROKEE HAS ISSUED A RECALL AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE REGULAR CHEROKEE HASN'T YET.
