TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INTERIOR REAR DOOR HANDLES SEPARATED FROM THE DOOR FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE DOOR HANDLES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
THERE IS A MAJOR DESIGN FLAW WITH THE INNER DOOR HANDLES ON MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. I KNOW JEEP CHANGED THE DESIGN IN 2008 DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. THE HOUSING AND HINGE ARE MADE ENTIRELY OF PLASTIC AND ARE VERY BRITTLE. AFTER A FEW YEARS OF USE THE PLASTIC STARTS TO CRACK THEN BREAK AWAY AND THE INNER HANDLE WILL NOT FUNCTION. THIS POOR DESIGN IN ITSELF SHOULD BE A $10 FIX BUT UNFORTUNATELY IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE HANDLE YOU ARE FORCED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE INNER DOOR PANEL. WHY IS MY FAMILY POTENTIALLY BEING PUT IN HARMS WAY FOR A PART THAT COULD BE EASILY IMPROVED TO PREVENT FAILURE?
THE INSTRUMENT WARNING LIGHTS WILL FLASH ON AND OFF. THIS INCLUDES THE SPEEDOMETER AND THE ODOMETER WHICH WILL DROP TO ZERO. ALSO, THE HVAC FAN WILL CUT OUT WHEN THIS IS HAPPENING. HEADLIGHTS DO NOT FLASH ON AND OFF AND THE ENGINE HAS NEVER CUT OUT. SOMETIMES THE WARNING LIGHTS WILL REMAIN OFF ALONG WITH THE GAUGES FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. THIS OCCURS RANDOMLY AND OCCURS AT ALL SPEEDS. THE TRUCK STARTS WITHOUT ISSUE. THE FLASHING CAN OCCUR IMMEDIATELY OR AT RANDOM TIMES WHILE DRIVING. *TR
AS MY MOTHER WAS GETTING ONTO THE 105 EAST FWY THE ENGINE MADE A LOUD BANG AND RUMBLING NOISES. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE ENGINE COMPLETELY TURNED OFF AND THE CAR WAS STILL IN MOTION. THE BRAKES WERE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY THUS MY MOTHER WAS ABLE TO COME TO A FULL STOP ON THE SHOULDER OF THE FWY RAMP. ALL THE ENGINE OIL WAS SPILLING OUT OF THE VEHICLE. ONCE THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID THE ENGINE HAD A HOLE AND NOT REPAIRABLE. THE CAR IS BARELY 5 YEARS OLD AND PURCHASED NEW. LAST OIL CHANGE WAS DONE ON 3/16/11 AND THE AUTO CENTER DID NOT REPORT ANY ENGINE ISSUES.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER 4X4 (NA). WHEN THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION, AN EXTREMELY STRONG ODOR OF FUEL EMITTED INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE FUEL SUPPLY LINE WAS LEAKING FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED THAT THE FUEL LINE WAS CRACKED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED IN THE FAST LANE OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY. SHE SHIFTED THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND NOTHING HAPPENED. AFTER SHE WAITED FIFTEEN SECONDS, THE VEHICLE STARTED NORMALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED THREE TO FOUR TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE FAILURE. SHE WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
DRIVER WAS MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN OUT OF A PARKING LOT ONTO A STREET. 10-15 FEET INTO THE TURN, THE VEHICLE BECAME STATIONARY AND WOULDN'T MOVE FORWARD. STOPPED VEHICLE AND PUT IT INTO PARK. WENT OUTSIDE VEHICLE AND CHECKED UNDERNEATH AND REAR OF VEHICLE. NO OBSTRUCTION FOUND. REENTERED VEHICLE AND PLACED TRANSMISSION INTO DRIVE. VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. PUT TRANSMISSION INTO REVERSE AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO BACKWARD. PLACED VEHICLE INTO PARK AND EXITED VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE/WHEEL HAD COME OFF OF THE VEHICLE AND THE RIGHT FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WAS RESTING ON TOP OF THE WHEEL TIRE. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO MANUFACTURER'S DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE UPPER CONTROL ARM HAD FAILED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FOUR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES FAILED AND TRAPPED THE PASSENGERS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT ALL FOUR DOOR PANELS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,300. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. THE VEHICLE ROLLED AWAY WHILE PARKED. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V175000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, POWER TRAIN). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
THE PLASTIC INSERTS THAT THE DOOR MECHANISM CONNECTS TO HAS FAILED AND BROKEN ON ALL 4 DOORS, IN THIS CASE THE DOOR OPENED ON THE HIGHWAY WITH NO INJURIES. HOWEVER WHEN I REPORTED IT TO JEEP THEY TOLD ME IT WAS DUE TO EXTREME WEAR CAUSED BY ME, IT'S ONLY ME AND MY WIFE IN OUR HOUSE NO KIDS SO THE BACK DOORS HAVE NOT BEEN USED. YET THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS. JEEP IS HAPPY TO FIX THIS AT A COST OF $2600. WHEN I DID SOME SEARCHING ONLINE, I FOUND A FEW WEBSITES DEDICATED TO THIS PROBLEM. SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T GET OUT OF THE CAR, WHAT IF THEIR WAS A FIRE? *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT. THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON A TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS, AND CONTINUED TO REMAIN FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,412.
DRIVERS SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HAS BROKEN. I WENT TO EXIT MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER AND THE PLASTIC BEHIND THE DOOR HANDLE BROKE AWAY FROM THE DOOR PANEL AND MY PASSENGER DOOR IS NOW BROKEN ALSO. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V203000 (POWER TRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: CONTROL MODULE -TCM, PCM). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
MY 2006 JEEP COMANNDER IS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS LISTED BY MANY OWNERS, DELAYED TRANMISSION ENGAGEMENT, WARNING LIGHTS FLASHING ON & OFF, WON'T START. IT HAS STALLED ONCE. I HAVE CHECKED MY VIN # FOR RECALLS AND IT'S NOT ON ANY LIST. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE AND HAVE NO OTHER TRANPORTATION. THE DEALER I CONTACTED HAS NOT HEARD ABOUT THE FLASHING LIGHT PROBLEM AND HAS NOT GOT BACK TO ME AFTER GIVING HIM MY VIN #. I AM ALSO EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS, ALTHOUGH NOT LIFE THREATENING, THEY SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING TO A $40,000 VEHICLE; WHISTLING WINDOWS, THE SIDE OF MY DRIVERS SEAT BROKE OFF AND IT CONTAINS THE ELECTRICAL CORDS FOR MY SEAT, THE WINDOWS DON'T OPREATE PROPERLY. I DID NOT THINK ANY OF THESE THINGS TO BE OF CONSEQUENSE UNTIL I STARTED RESEARCHING MY INTERIOR LIGHT PROBLEM. *TR
TLA*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM SUDDENLY ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE CONTROL UNTIL HEAVY PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. DURING THE FAILURE, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE LIGHT BEGAN ILLUMINATING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THERE WAS A FAILURE WITHIN THE ABS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 49,000. UPDATED 5/24/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED HEAVY PRESSURE WAS THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 06/06/11

TWO INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES, ONE AT DRIVER POSITION AND ONE REAR SEAT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR, HAVE BROKEN AND FAIL TO OPEN THE DOOR WITHOUT GREAT MANIPULATION. I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY OR MY PASSENGERS SAFETY IF I/THEY SHOULD NEED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE QUICKLY. THE DOORS DO NOT OPEN EASILY AT ALL!! *TR
ON MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER, 3 OUT OF THE 4 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKEN. THE PLASTIC ON THE DOORS FIRST BEGAN TO CRACK, PRODUCING HOLES IN THE HANDLE CUT-OUT. NOW THE INTERIOR HANDLES MOVE UP AND DOWN, AND IF NOT SITUATED PROPERLY, PREVENT YOU FROM ENTERING OR EXITING THE VEHICLE. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR EVERY PASSENGER IN THE CAR. AFTER DOING ONLINE RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A PERVASIVE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE WHOLE DOOR PANEL NEEDS REPLACING AT AN APPROXIMATE COST OF $500 PER PANEL AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. THEY SUGGESTED I LOOK ONLINE FOR REPLACEMENTS AND THEY WOULD HAPPILY INSTALL THEM. *TR

THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKES BUT TO NO AVAIL, THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY SHIFTING TO PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
THE DOOR HANDLE IS CHEAP THE PLASTIC PIECE ON THREE DOORS HAS FALLEN APART. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM - YOU ARE HEREIN NOTIFIED THAT FAILURE TO MANDATE A RECALL WILL PUT NHTSA AS A LIABLE PARTY TO ANY SUIT. DOOR WILL NOT OPEN CAUSED BY INFERIOR FAULTY DESIGN. *TR
MARCH OF 2009 WE EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH OUR 2006 JEEP COMMANDER WITH THE ELECTRONICS IN THE VEHICLE SHUTTING DOWN CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. WE TOOK IT INTO OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY INFORMED US THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE SHIFTER MODULE AND THAT IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. WELL $2500 LATER AND MISSING PARTS WE REQUESTED TO KEEP OUR VEHICLE WAS BACK IN OUR POSSESSION WITH THE PROBLEM STILL HAPPENING. NOT AS SEVERE AS WHAT IT HAD BEEN PRIOR TO SENDING IT IN, HOWEVER STILL HAPPENING. THIS EVENING MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN THIS HAPPENED AGAIN. ONLY THIS TIME THE ABS WENT OUT AND THE BRAKES STARTED PUMPING FOR NO REASON, AS WELL AS THE VEHICLE STALLING OUT WHILE DRIVING 110KMPH. WHEN HOME WE REVIEWED RECALLS RECOMMENDED FOR 2006 JEEP COMMANDERS AND THERE IS ONE WHERE IT DESCRIBES THE SYMPTOMS OUR VEHICLE IS HAVING IN QUITE DETAIL. AMONGST INVESTIGATING FURTHER IT WAS DETERMINED THAT OUT PARTICULAR VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ALTHOUGH EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS. *TR
WE OWN A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER AND HAVE FAILING INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES THAT ARE PREVENTING OUR FAMILY FROM EXITING AND ENTERING THE VEHICLE ON DEMAND. FOR SAFETY REASONS THIS PROBLEM COULD LEAD TO THE DEATH OF ANYONE RIDING IN THE VEHICLE AND IS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, STALLED VEHICLE OR OTHER EVENT. BECAUSE OF THE FAULTY DESIGN THE ENTIRE PANEL HAS TO BE REPLACED AND IS QUITE COSTLY($500 + EACH). I DO NOT FEEL THIS BURDEN SHOULD BE PLACED ON JEEP OWNERS SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THE BAD DESIGN. I WOULD SUGGEST A RECALL OF THESE DOOR PANELS BEFORE A LAW SUIT IS BROUGHT AGAINST THE PEOPLE OR DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE OF THESE PANELS. I DO HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 100,000 MILES AND PAID TO HAVE THE HIGHEST PLAN I CAN HAVE AND THESE STILL ARE NOT COVERED. I IMPLORE YOU TO PLEASE SEARCH THE INTERNET SEE ALL THE LOYAL JEEP OWNERS AND RECALL THESE PANELS BEFORE JEEP IS NO LONGER A TRUSTED NAME. *TR
2006 JEEP COMMANDER LIMITED PURCHASED BRAND NEW DEC 2006 FROM MCCUNE CHRYSLER AND JEEP, NATIONAL CITY CALIFORNIA. PURCHASED EXTENDED SERVICE CONTRACT MAX 6/70, COVERING MY CAR TO 70,000. CAR CURRENTLY HAS 63,000 MILES (EXTENDED SERVICE CONTRACT). NEVER HAD AN PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE AT ALL. TOOK CAR TO PURCHASING LOCATION FOR REPAIRS JAN 2011. WHILE THERE, SERVICE ADVISOR SAID I NEEDED A NEW EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND IT WAS COVERED UNDER SERVICE CONTRACT. SINCE THEN, MY CAR HAS CUT OFF IN TRAFFIC CAUSING ME TO ALMOST LOOSE MY LIFE BY BEING HIT BY TRAFFIC, ALL LIGHTS ON MY DASH PANEL LIGHTS UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE, CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE WHEN GAS PEDAL PUSHED,,, AND I AM TOLD THAT MY CAR HAS A COMMUNICATION PROBLEM AND THEY CAN NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT. I FINALLY CALL ED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER, FILED A COMPLAINT, AND WAS TOLD THAT A CASE MANGER WILL BE CALLING ME TO WORK WITH ME AND THE DEALERSHIP. IF THE MECHANICS CAN NOT FIGURE IT OUT, THEN THAT IS A MAJOR CONCERN TO ME BECAUSE NOW MY LIFE, MY KIDS LIVES, AND ANY OTHER PASSENGERS LIVES ARE AT JEOPARDY WHILE IN THIS VEHICLE. IT'S A DEATH TRAP. CHRYSLER NOR THE MCCUNE ARE TAKING RESPONSIBILITY. ALL I AM GETTING IS THAT IT'S A COMMUNICATION PROBLEM WITHIN THE CAR. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS MATTER? THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED TO BE DIAGNOSED TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE HEADLIGHTS BEGIN TO FLASH ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. THE LIGHTS WITHIN THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL ARE NOT ILLUMINATED AND FLASH AS WELL. I HAVE TO MANUALLY TURN THE LIGHTS OFF THEN TURN THEM BACK ON NUMEROUS TIMES TO GET THE FLASHING TO STOP. IT IS A VERY SCARY, DANGEROUS, AND EMBARRASSING PROBLEM WHEN IT HAPPENS. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR A FEW YEARS NOW. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THERE ARE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTIES RELATED TO THE FAILURE. *TR

YOU CAN PUT IT IN PARK AND IT WILL START AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, ALWAYS WITH THE REPORT OF NOTHING IS SHOWING ON THE COMPUTER REPORT.
