ON MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER I HAVE DEFECTIVE CORRODED TIRE VALVE STEMS WHICH ARE NOW CRACKED AND CAUSE THE TIRE TO CONSTANTLY LOSE AIR PRESSURE CAUSING AN UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITION. CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT REFUSES TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PARTS.THE PROBLEM I AM TOLD IS DUE TO THE ALUMINUM VALVE STEM BEING CORRODED BY THE METAL VALVE STEM CAP. ALL IS ORIGINAL FACTORY PARTS. I AM AFRAID IF THE VALVE STEM COMPLETELY FAILS AND THE TIRE GOES FLAT WHILE DRIVING IT MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE GEAR DOWNSHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT AND ANOTHER UNIDENTIFIED LIGHT ALL ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED RECALL 08V203000 (POWER TRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: CONTROL MODULE (TCM, PCM)) BUT WAS TOLD HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.
I HAVE A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER LIMITED. I WAS DRIVING HOME THIS MORNING AND ALL OFF A SUDDEN JUST BEFORE I WENT TO TURN INTO MY DRIVEWAY THE STEERING WENT STIFF AND STARTED MAKING A WHINING NOISE...NOW CAN HARDLY STEER IT AT ALL...I THINK THE POWER STEERING PUMP OR THE RACK AND PINION STEERING IS TOAST...ITS A HUGE JOB AS FOR YOU HAVE TO DROP THE FRONT DIFF TO REPLACE ..VERY EXPENSIVE AND IS NOT UNDER MY WARRANT....VEHICLE IS ONLY AT 80,000 KM NOW ...I BOUGHT IT USED LAST WEEK AND HAVE ONLY DROVE IT FOR 1,500KM ...NOT COOL!! WHY IS THIS HAPPENING ON SO MANY JEEPS!!????? CHRYSLER NOT DOING A THING ABOUT IT???? SAFE???.....I DON'T THINK SO! *TR
FRONT AND BACK DOOR HANDLES BREAK UNDER NOT MUCH USE. THEY ARE PLASTIC AND BELIEVE THIS IS A DESIGN AND MATERIAL FLAW. WHEN THEY BREAK, THE ONLY WAY TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IS TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW AND REACH OUTSIDE AND OPEN THE DOOR OR TO EXIT THROUGH ANOTHER DOOR. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE TO ME AND FROM SPEAKING WITH OTHERS, IT SEEMS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. WHAT MAKES IT WORSE IS THAT JEEP DOES NOT SELL JUST A REPLACEMENT HANDLE. THEY MAKE YOU BUY AN ENTIRE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL AT $600+ TO FIX NOT INCLUDING LABOR. MY FEAR IS THAT THIS IS NOT JUST AN INCONVENIENCE, BUT A MAJOR POTENTIAL SAFETY PROBLEM. I WOULD ENCOURAGE NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE AND WOULD RECOMMEND A FIX AND ULTIMATE RECALL. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, PARTICULARLY IF YOU ARE IN AN ACCIDENT SITUATION. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO WEEKS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING WHILE THE RPMS INCREASED EXCESSIVELY. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND SHUT OFF. UPON RESTARTING THE VEHICLE IT BEGAN TO MOVE AT A VERY LOW SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT WATER WAS GETTING INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND IT WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,356 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
2006 JEEP COMMANDER - VEHICLE STALLING BEFORE ACCELERATION, POWER-STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT: BETWEEN 24,000 - 30,000 MILES, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL AND THE MOTOR HAS COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE INCIDENT. NO ACTIONS WERE TAKEN AT THE DEALERSHIP. WE WERE TOLD IF IT DOES NOT HAPPEN WHILE AT THE DEALER, THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE. THE VEHICLE JUST REACHED 30,000 MILES AND THE POWER STEERING IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY MORE DIFFICULT. A SCRUBBING AND LOUD NOISE CAN BE HEARD WHILE TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. MOST RECENTLY, THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LATCH FRACTURED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A CLAIM WAS FILED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
1. NORMAL USE OF THE VEHICLE. 2. THE INNER DOOR HANDLES BREAK AND YOU CANT EXIT THE VEHICLE. 3. THE ONLY CURRENT SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE OEM DOOR PANEL FOR EVERY DOOR. THE DOOR HANDLE IS PLASTIC AND IS MOLDED INTO THE DOOR PANEL SO THERE IS NO EASY WAY TO REPAIR IT WITHOUT REPLACING THE WHOLE PANEL AT A VERY LARGE EXPENSE. UNFORTUNATELY THE REPLACEMENT DOOR PANELS ARE THE SAME DESIGN SO IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THEY FAIL ALSO. MY FEAR IS THAT IN A TIME OF CRISIS ONE OR ALL OF THE DOORS COULD FAIL TO OPEN. BELOW WAS SENT TO CHRYSLER.COM THERE IS A MAJOR DESIGN FLAW WITH THE INNER DOOR HANDLES ON THE JEEP COMMANDER. THE HOUSING IS ENTIRELY MADE OF PLASTIC AND IS VERY BRITTLE. AFTER A FEW YEARS OF USE THE PLASTIC STARTS TO CRACK THEN BREAK AWAY AND THE INNER HANDLE WILL NOT FUNCTION. IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE HANDLE YOU ARE FORCED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE INNER DOOR PANEL. PART 5JS891D1AG FOR THE DRIVERS DOOR. AS YOU CAN IMAGINE PURCHASING THE ENTIRE OEM PANEL FOR EACH DOOR IS UNGODLY EXPENSIVE BUT NECESSARY IF YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ACTUALLY WANT TO EXIT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT HAVING TO GO "DUKES OF HAZARD" AND CLIMB OUT. THE REPLACEMENT PANELS ARE IN NO WAY IMPROVED FROM THE ORIGINAL DESIGN SO IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME THAT THEY WILL BREAK AS WELL IN THE SAME MANNER. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR MY FAMILY THAT THEY WILL NOT OPEN THE DOOR IN A TIME OF NEED. I AM A MEMBER OF SEVERAL ONLINE FORUMS AND THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH SEVERAL COMMANDER OWNERS. DASHBOARD LIGHTS UP WHILE DRIVING, ENGINE STALLS, THEN STARTS UP AGAIN. INTERMITTENT. *TR
THE ISSUES I HAVE HAD IS STALLING IN MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. THERE IS NOT ANY WARNING SIGN ASSOCIATED WITH THIS. MY CAR HAS STALLED BEFORE WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AS WELL AS WHILE PARKED. THERE IS NO WARNING, IT JUST STALLS. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON THE EXPRESSWAY IT JUST CUT OFF. LUCKILY I WAS IN THE FAR LEFT LANE AND WAS ABLE TO STEER THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER. I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF THEN STARTED TO CAR AND IT DROVE AS IF NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. IT ALSO STALLS WHILE PARKED WITH NO WARNING. THERE IS NO APPARENT REASON. YOU THEN HAVE TO UNPLUG THE BATTERY FOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS THEN HOPE IT STARTS THE NEXT DAY. I HAVE HAD THE ALTERNATOR CHANGED AND THIS PROBLEM STILL HAPPENS. WHAT I WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC IS WHEN I UNPLUG THE BATTERY IT IS RESETTING THE ELECTRICAL CONTROL PANEL. BUT THIS HAS NOT HELPED. I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND SHUT OFF WHEN THE CONTACT OPENED THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE; THE PLASTIC MATERIAL BEHIND THE DOOR HANDLE SUDDENLY FRACTURED. THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. THE DOOR COULD NO LONGER BE OPENED FROM THE INTERIOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REMAINING EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLES BECAME DETACHED ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
I CURRENTLY OWN A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER AND FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS NOW I HAVE BEING HAVING SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH MY EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR LIGHTS FLASHING ON AND OFF I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY KEEP SAYING THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT, THEY CANNOT FIND KNOW FAULTS OR DEFECTS. THE LIGHTS HAS BEING GOING OFF WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT ON THE EXPRESS WAY WITH MY BABY IN THE VEHICLE CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS ISSUE I FEAR FOR MY LIFE AND THE LIFE OF MY CHILD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
2006 JEEP COMMANDER DEFECT OF UNINTENDED CHANGE IN IGNITION SWITCH POSITION WHILE DRIVING *CN THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON AUGUST 24, 2010. HE BELIEVED THE ACCIDENT WAS THE RESULT OF THE NOW IGNITION SWITCH RECALL. *JB

THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE CRACKED AND 1 OUT OF THE 4 IS BROKEN SO THAT THE DOOR CAN NOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. ONLY 1 IS INTACT BUT THE OTHER 2 ARE BARELY WORKING. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN IN THE EVENT OF WRECK, FIRE, OR IF YOU DROVE INTO HIGH WATER. *TR
VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND WE HAD EXPERIENCED THIS OFF AND ON SO WE REPLACED THE BATTERY. WITHIN A MONTH, CAR WOULD NOT START AGAIN. WHILE TRYING TO GET IT STARTED THE LIGHTS CAME ON, NO START. WAITED, TRIED AGAIN, DIMMER LIGHTS; WAITED AGAIN NOTHING! ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TOTALLY NON FUNCTIONING. WE HAVE ALSO HAD STALLING ISSUES AND CAR AUTOMATICALLY CHANGING GEARS. IT FEELS LIKE IT JUST CAN'T GET SPEED UP AND NOT EVEN A HIGH RATE, JUST IN TOWN. I WAS DRIVING AND NOTICED THE GEAR WENT FROM DRIVE TO 3RD! I TRIED TURNING IT OFF AND RESTARTING WITH NO LUCK AND THEN THAT STALLING FEELING ALL THE WAY TO WORK. THE TRUCK HAS A MIND OF IT'S OWN BUT IT'S NOT WORKING! *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V203000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE; TCM, PCM). THE SAME DAY THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE ENGINE STALLING FAILURE. THE RECALL REMEDY DID NOT CORRECT THE MALFUNCTION. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE 109,000.
ON THE 2006 JEEP COMMANDER THE AREA BEHIND THE DOOR HANDLES VERY EASILY BREAKS CAUSING THE HANDLE TO GO UP IN TO THE DOOR PREVENTING IT FROM OPENING. IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY WITH THE NEED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR FAST YOU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT. THE ONLY FIX IS REPLACING THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL WITH IS OVER $500. BUT THE PROBLEM WOULD NOT BE FIXED SINCE IT WOULD JUST BE PUTTING THE EXACT DOOR PANEL BACK ON. 3 OF MY DOOR PANELS ARE EITHER BROKEN OR CRACKED. I'VE FOUND WEBSITE WHERE LOTS OF PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME YEAR MODEL HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. MY JEEP HAS NOT BEEN MISTREATED. THE PLASTIC BEHIND THE HANDLE BROKE IN TO MANY PIECES WHEN I JUST WENT TO OPEN THE DOOR. *TR
SIMILAR TO MOST OTHER COMPLAINTS, ALL INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HOUSINGS ARE SEVERELY FRACTURED. DRIVER SIDE HOUSING IS SO BADLY DAMAGED THAT THE HANDLE REQUIRES A PRECISE METHOD IN ORDER TO OPEN IT. MY SISTER-IN-LAW OWNS THE JEEP COMMANDER AS WELL, SAME PROBLEM. COST OF REPAIR (IE YOU ARE REQUIRED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE PANEL FOR AROUND $800) DOES NOT MAKE ANY ECONOMIC SENSE. THIS IS UNDOUBTEDLY A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT OR WORSE, A ROLL OVER. SEEING THAT EVERYONE WHO OWNS THE COMMANDER HAS THIS SAME COMPLAINT, HOW HAS THIS NOT BEEN RECALLED??? *TR
I PURCHASED THE 2006 COMMANDER IN JUNE 2010. THE FIRST 6 WEEKS I HAD THE VEHICLE I LOVED IT. THE FIRST INCIDENT I HAD WITH THE VEHICLE WAS THE SERVICE PARK ASSIST WARNING CAME ON AND STAYED ON FOR TWO DAYS, THEN WENT OFF ON ITS OWN PRIOR TO GETTING AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT CHECKED. THE NEXT INCIDENT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS IDLING IN TRAFFIC AT A STOPLIGHT. EVERY INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO STALL BUT DID NOT COMPLETELY STALL OUT. SINCE THAT EPISODE I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT WINDOW AND PASSENGER SIDE REAR WINDOW NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY (AT TIMES WON'T ROLL UP OR DOWN FROM EITHER CONTROL). MORE RECENTLY I HAVE HAD INCREASING EPISODES (TWO TO THREE TIMES PER MONTH) OF THE DASH LIGHTING UP, HEADLIGHTS DIMMING AND THE VEHICLE LOSING POWER (SO FAR ALWAYS WHILE PARKED OR SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE), AS WELL AS THE SERVICE PARK ASSIST WARNING AND WINDOW ISSUES. AFTER HEARING OF A COWORKER WITH A 2007 COMMANDER HAVING SOME OF THE SAME ISSUES I BEGAN SEARCHING THE INTERNET AND HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUES AS MINE. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE WITH MY CHILDREN INSIDE IN THE EVENT THAT IT WOULD STALL OUT ON THE HIGHWAY AND I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL IT. I SPOKE WITH THE DEALER THAT SOLD ME THE VEHICLE YESTERDAY AND THEY HAVE AGREED TO LOOK AT IT FREE OF CHARGE THIS MORNING SINCE THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON IT NOW, BUT I STILL AM NOT SURE I WANT TO KEEP THIS VEHICLE ANY LONGER. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND FIX THIS ISSUE. I USED TO BE A DIE HARD JEEP FAN...BUT NO LONGER! I PURCHASED A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER 5.7 L HEMI IN MAY OF 2009 WITH 46K MILES .SHORTLY AFTER THE POWER STEERING PUMP WENT OUT ,I HAD IT REPLACED .THEN THE CAR STARTED TO STALL PRETTY MUCH EVERYDAY AND I TOOK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT NEEDED A NEW BATTERY . TWO DAYS LATER THE CAR STALLED AGAIN ON THE INTERSTATE AND THIS TIME THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED A NEW IGNITION SWITCH AND THE PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED. IN JULY 2010 I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 65 MPH AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN ALL THE LIGHTS STARTED TO FLASH AND THE DASH BOARD LIT UP AND ENGINE STALLED ,I LOST THE POWER STEERING ,ACCELERATOR BECOME VERY LOOSE AND STUCK TO THE FLOOR ,BRAKES DID NOT WORK 'I MPUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKES TO STOP. THERE IS SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE HOOD SO I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK . AT THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE AND THAT I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE . I'M A OWNER OF A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER LIMITED AND STARTING TO BECOME FRUSTRATED AND SCARED TO DRIVE THIS BEAUTIFUL CAR. I ALSO FIND THAT OTHER DOOR LATCHES ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM AND FIND THAT A PERSON COULD BECOME TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVERS DOOR LATCH IS ABOUT TO FAIL ALSO AT THIS TIME. SHE REFERENCED NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V203000, POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM, PCM); HOWEVER, HER VIN WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 42,500.

THE RETAINER CLIP AND THE BRAKE CABLE WERE REPAIRED. HE SPOKE TO THE JEEP MANUFACTURER TO CONFIRM THAT THE FAILURE WOULD NOT RECUR. HE WAS TOLD THE FAILURE WAS NOT A COMMON OCCURRENCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 101,000.

THREE MONTHS LATER, THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE OF THE LEFT REAR PASSENGER SEAT BROKE LOOSE IN THE SAME MANNER. NOW THE DRIVER'S INSIDE DOOR HANDLE IS CRACKED AND DOOMED TO FAIL. WITHOUT THESE HANDLES FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO EGRESS THE VEHICLE WITHOUT BEING LET OUT BY SOMEONE OUTSIDE THE CAR OR BY LOWERING THE WINDOW AND AWKWARDLY USING THE OUTSIDE HANDLE.
