I HAVE A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER THAT HAS STALLED 4-5 WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL TRAFFIC CONDITIONS BOTH AT NORMAL SPEEDS AS WELL AS WHEN APPROACHING A STOP. I HAVE TO SHIFT THE CAR TO NEUTRAL T RESTART OR STOP AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THIS PRESENTS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS MY WIFE AND CHILD DRIVE/RIDE IN THE VEHICLE DAILY. WE HAVE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX THE ISSUE BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PCM MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. HOW MANY SPECIFIC INCIDENT REPORTS DOES THE NHTSA NEED BEFORE THEY REQUIRE CHRYSLER TO EXPLAIN THEIR FAULTY/DEFECTIVE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES? PLEASE REVIEW THE HIGH NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS THAT POINT TO FAILURE OF THE 2006 JEEP COMMANDER'S INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES AND BEGIN THE PROCESS TO REQUIRE A SAFETY RECALL. THIS IS NOT A COSMETIC ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE PLASTIC HOUSING THAT HOLDS THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES IS BRITTLE, CAUSING THE HANDLE TO BREAK, WHICH RENDERS THE HANDLE INOPERABLE (FROM THE INSIDE). OCCUPANTS REPORT HAVING TO ROLL DOWN THEIR WINDOW TO UNLATCH THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE SHEAR NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS (BOTH IN YOUR WEBSITE AND ON VARIOUS JEEP ON-LINE FORUMS) INDICATES THAT THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE THAT CAN NOT BE ATTRIBUTED TO ROUGH HANDLING. *TR
TORQUE CONVERTER BROKE APART CAUSING TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 45,300 MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START ONCE THE KEY WAS PLACED INTO THE IGNITION. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO START. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE IGNITION WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT ALSO RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V175000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, POWER TRAIN); HOWEVER, THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
PAINT ON FRONT TIP OF HOOD BUBBLING. TOOK JEEP INTO GET PAINTED AND THEY SAID IT WAS DUE TO WATER GETTING BETWEEN THE HOOD AND FRAME - COULDN'T FIX, AND WILL COME BACK WITHIN A YEAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD AND THEN STALLED. WHEN THE CONTACT EXAMINED THE VEHICLE, SHE NOTICED THAT IT WILL SHIFT INTO THE DRIVE GEAR, AND COULD ONLY BE DRIVEN IN THIRD GEAR. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 59,000.
PROBLEMS BEGAN 1 DAY AFTER COMMANDER WENT IN TO DEALER FOR THE REGULAR 3,000MILE OIL CHANGE, THAT CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME AFTER THAT OIL CHANGE, AS 'GOOD TO GO'; W/IN 24 HOURS OF THAT OIL CHANGE, THE COMMANDER WOULD NOT START AND REQUIRED A NEW STARTER (30K MILES). AFTER THE STARTER WAS REPLACED, THE COMMANDER WAS STALLING IF - IN THE MIDDLE OF A SLIGHT INCLINE IT HAD TO BRAKE AND THEN RESUME - AT THE RESUME IT WOULD STALL. ALSO, AFTER STARTER REPLACED DASHBOARD LIGHTS BLINKING; TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES LEAKING, POWER STEERING LINE FROM PUMP TO COOLER LEAKING, AND FRONT AND BACK BRAKE ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED (42K MILES) 60K MILES, THE CRUISE CONTROL TURNS ON BY ITSELF AND THE REAR PARK ASSIST TURNS OFF BY ITSELF; THE WATER LEAK INTO FRONT PASSENGER WELL. SPEAKING WITH CUSTOM RELATIONS AT CHRYSLER CORPORATE REGARDING CRUISE CONTROL, REAR ASSIST AND WATER LEAK PROBLEMS THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THESE BEING A PROBLEM FOR MOST COMMANDER CUSTOMERS; HOWEVER, CHRYSLER JEEP IS AWARE OF THESE PROBLEMS AS EVIDENCED BY THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS PUBLISHED ON THEM YET CHRYSLER JEEP DOES NOT ISSUE A RECALL/TAKE FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR MANUFACTURER DEFECTS. HAVE A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. LIGHTS HAVE BEEN FLICKERING AND CAR HAS NOT WANTED TO START. FOUND THAT BATTERY WAS NOT HOLDING CHARGE AND REPLACED. NOW WE DRIVE AT SPEED AND THE ENGINE BEGINS TO RACE WHILE NOT INCREASING SPEED. HAVE TAKEN TO DEALER IN CINCINNATI,NORTHGATE AND THEY RESET COMPUTER BUT BEFORE WE COULD LEAVE THE BAY AREA IT STARTED MAKING A GRINDING NOISE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS BACK ON. THEY SAY THE ARE GOING TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION GUY LOOK AT IT AND GET BACK TO US. I READ HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON YOUR SITE AND THE MAJORITY OF THEM ARE DESCRIBING PROBLEMS THAT ARE VERY SIMILAR OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS. DON'T YOU HAVE ENOUGH COMPLAINTS ON THIS THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD BE DOING A RECALL? AFTER ALL THE GOVERNMENT IS NOW DEEPLY INVESTED IN CHRYSLER. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER OUT A PARKING LOT AND IT LOST COMPLETE POWER. IT STARTED STALLING AND I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAY I HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE PCM UPDATED AND THAT AFFECTED THE ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE. I DID SOME RESEARCH AFTER SPEAKING WITH THEM AND IT SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM ON THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE AND EVEN A RECALL (#08V20300). *TR
I OWN A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER SPORT. IT HAS STALLED ON ME APPROXIMATELY 4 TIMES. MOST RECENTLY TODAY IT STALLED AFTER BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY INTO THE STREET. I HAVE HAD IT IN FOR SERVICE IN WHICH I BELIEVE THE MAP SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THIS DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH THIS BY OTHER COMMANDER OWNERS AND THOUGHT I WOULD FILE A INCIDENT REPORT AS WELL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. SHE STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 60 AND 75 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. SHE WAS ABLE TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, RESTART IT, AND CONTINUE DRIVING NORMALLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THIS TYPE OF FAILURE AND THAT THERE WERE NO EXISTING RECALLS. THEY ALSO ADVISED HER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED; HOWEVER, SHE CHOSE NOT TO SINCE THERE WAS A FEE. THE COMPUTER INDICATED THAT THE CONTROL MODULE CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR. NHTSA CAMPAIGN 08V059000, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS ALSO RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82000.
I DRIVE A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER LIMITED V8 AND IT HAS A TENDENCY TO STALL FOR NO REASON. IT HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH AND I HAVE READ THAT MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR COMMANDERS OF THE SAME YEAR MODEL. FORTUNATELY I HAVE NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE STALLING, HOWEVER, IT DOES IT AT ALL SPEEDS AND WHEN IT HAPPENS I LOSE ALL POWER. *TR
ACCELERATION DOES NOT STOP WHEN CRUISE CONTROL IS ENGAGED; ACCELERATES PAST REQUESTED SPEED AS IF GAS PEDAL IS STUCK. CONTACTED LOCAL MECHANIC, EXPLAINED PROBLEM, THEY SAID IT SOUNDED AS IF IT WERE A SAFETY ISSUE AND WOULD NOT TOUCH IT. CONTACTED CHRYSLER, BASICALLY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO RECALL, SORRY, AND TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT BY A JEEP DEALERSHIP. BEGAN RESEARCHING ONLINE, HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL PEOPLE ACROSS THE COUNTRY WITH 2006 JEEP COMMANDERS AROUND THE SAME MILEAGE. ONE OWNER COMMENTED THAT HE INVESTED $600 IN PARTS THAT WERE NOT THE PROBLEM TO BEGIN WITH, THERE ARE NO CODES FOR THIS ISSUE. FINALLY, THE PEOPLE WORKING ON IT DECIDED IT WAS THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE AND THAT SEEMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. THE HEADLIGHTS BEGAN FLASHING ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. THE LIGHTS WITHIN THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL ARE NOT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THERE ARE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTIES RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
DURING REGULAR DRIVE OF THE CAR, I EXPERIENCED MAJOR ELECTRICAL SHUT DOWN. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN VERY OFTEN. I NOTICED THAT IS HAPPENING IN SUMMER TIME MORE OFTEN THAN IN WINTER TIME. I NOTICED IT FOR A FIRST TIME 2 YEARS AGO AND REPORTED TO LOCAL SERVICE DEALER. THEY TOLD ME TO KEEP AN EYE ON IT AND TO TELL THEM IF I NOTICE ANY TREND. EXCEPT FOR SUMMER/WINTER, I COULDN'T NOTICE ANY OTHER TREND. LAST SUMMER IT WAS HAPPENING QUITE OFTEN AND AFTER BRINGING IT TO THE SERVICE, THEY COULDN'T FIND CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. I THINK THEY PERFORMED SOME RECALL FIRMWARE UPDATE (08V-203 I THINK) BUT I STILL HAVE SAME ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. I DON'T HAVE ENGINE STALL HOWEVER. LAST NIGHT (JULY 3RD 2009) IT HAPPEN TO ME FOR THE FIRST TIME DURING NIGHT AND I JUST REALIZED HOW SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IT ACTUALLY IS. WHILE DRIVING HOME WITH MY FAMILY, EVERYTHING IN THE CAR (HEADLIGHTS, AC , STEREO (EXCEPT LCD DISPLAY) ALL LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD (EXCEPT P R N D GEAR INDICATION)) WENT OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS AND CAME BACK ON. IT HAPPENED 15-20 TIMES IN 30 MINUTES TIME FRAME. AT ONE POINT AFTER ~10TH INTERRUPTION, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON (ERROR CODE U1411). SO, ALL LIGHTS DISAPPEARED WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT PUTTING ME AND MY FAMILY AT RISK OF AN SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I DON'T HAVE CONFIDENCE IN THIS CAR ANY MORE UNLESS THERE IS A PERMANENT FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHEN DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS AND WHEN DRIVING IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED OR REBUILT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLES HAVE GRADUALLY CRACKED AND FALLEN APART SO THAT IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. THIS PROBLEM HAS ONLY OCCURRED ON THE FRONT DOORS, NOT THE BACK-SEAT DOORS AND BEGAN GRADUALLY BACK IN 2009 - 2010. IT HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE BOTH HANDLES ARE FALLING BEHIND THE PANEL AND WE ARE VERY CAREFUL WHEN OPENING THE DOOR NOW AND PROHIBIT US FROM BEING ABLE TO EASILY OPEN THE FRONT DOOR(S). MY FAMILY AND I HAVE USED CARE WHEN OPENING THE DOORS AND HAVE NEVER USED EXCESSIVE FORCE OVER THE PAST 4-5 YEARS SO THERE IS NO LOGICAL REASON WHY THEY HAVE BROKEN THE SAME WAY ON BOTH SIDES.` *KB
I CURRENTLY OWN A 2006 COMMANDER. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH DASH LIGHT SHUTOFFS SINCE 2009, JUST RECENTLY THE VEHICLE HAS STARTED TO DO EXACTLY WHAT THE RECALL HAS STATED THAT IT WILL DO. THE DASH COMPONENTS WILL GO FROM ON TO OFF AND THEN BACK ON. THE WARNING LIGHTS WILL ALL COME ON AND THEN OFF AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAN MOTOR FOR THE HEATER IS NOW STARTING TO CUT IN AND OUT IN UNISON WITH ALL THE INDICATOR LIGHTS. RIGHT NOW IT IS ONLY THE LIGHTS BUT AT SOME TIME THE IGNITION IS GOING TO SHUT OFF LEAVING MYSELF IN A SITUATION THAT I CANNOT CONTROL WITH NO STEERING OR BRAKES TO SAFELY GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AT THIS POINT I CAN HIT THE DASH TO THE RIGHT OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT COMES BACK ON BUT HOW LONG CAN I DO THIS. THIS VEHICLE IS DEFINITELY A LEMON. SEPT 20, 2015
WHILE DRIVING THE DASH LIGHTS WENT OUT AND HEADLIGHTS STARTED FLASHING ON AND OFF. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND THEY FOUND NO TROUBLE. THE VEHICLE KEEPS BLOWING REAR TAIL LIGHT BULBS, AND BLOWER MOTOR AT TIMES DOES NOT WORK ON CERTAIN SPEEDS. CIGARETTE LIGHTER/POWER OUTLETS STOPPED WORKING EVEN THOUGH FUSE IS GOOD. POWER WINDOWS INTERMITTENTLY STOP WORKING. THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AROUND 62,000 MILES. HAD DEALER REPLACE TRANSMISSION AND NOW AT 102,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION WILL LOOSE DRIVE WHEN SHIFTING INTO 3RD UNDER MODERATE ACCELERATION. YOU THEN HAVE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK, THEN BACK IN DRIVE TO REGAIN DRIVE. TRANSMISSION ALSO "SURGES" UNDER LIGHT THROTTLE CONDITIONS AT LOW SPEEDS(10-20MPH). I HAVE CONTACTED JEEP AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE THEY COULD DO NOTHING. I FEEL THAT THE FLASHING LIGHTS AND THE LOSS OF DRIVE WHILE IN TRAFFIC ARE MAJOR SAFETY ISSUES. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS VEHICLE AND FOUND MAY OTHER OWNERS WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 JEEP LIMITED COMMANDER. I BOUGHT NEW. IN LESS THAN 9,000 MILES I HAD THE CAR IN THE SHOP 3 TIMES FOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES. THEN IN JULY 2007 THE TRANSFER CASE HAD TO BE REPLACED, STALLING MY FAMILY IN THE MIDDLE OF HWY 71 GOING 65 MPH. AFTER THAT THE HARD SHIFTING CONTINUED AND I TOOK TO SHOP THREE OTHER TIMES. ALL THAT WAS SAID IS CAN'T DUPLICATE PROBLEM. YESTERDAY WITH 41K MILES ON THE CAR, ALL OF THE GAUGES WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING. NO TAC, NO SPEED, AC WENT OUT. VERY BAD AND VERY DANGEROUS. JEEP KNOWS ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND WILL NOT FIX PROPERLY. *TR
JEEP COMMANDER WAS TURNING INTO PARKING LOT AND HAD A SLOW SPEED STALL. VEHICLE STARTED AGAIN WITH NO PROBLEMS. VEHICLE HAS THE 4.7L V8. VEHICLE IS NOW AT DEALERS CAR CARE CENTER FOR EVALUATION. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR SAME PROBLEM BACK IN JAN OF 2008. PCM (POWER CONTROL MODULE) WAS REPROGRAMMED AT THAT TIME. *TR

A/C BLOWER ONLY WORKS ON HIGH, NOT ANY OTHER SETTING. I'VE REPLACED THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR ON AVERAGE OF 3X PER YEAR (@ $32 FROM DEALER). THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN TOLD BY AUTO MECHANICS AND THE CHRYSLER DEALER SERVICE DEPT. IS WRONG WITH THE A/C SYSTEM....AND THAT "IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM." WHEN THE RESISTOR IS REPLACED, THE A/C WILL WORK PROPERLY FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND THEN REPEAT THE PROBLEM. OBVIOUSLY, THERE IS SOMETHING CAUSING THIS PART TO SHORT/MALFUNCTION. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS TOPIC (ONLINE/INTERNET), I'VE FOUND MANY JEEP OWNERS HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR, IT IS THE GUAGE OF WIRING CHRYSLER HAS USED TO INSTALL THE SYSTEM. THE WIRING CAN NOT HANDLE THE AMPS RUNNING THROUGH IT, AND THE CONNECTION/WIRING ACTUALLY MELTS. THIS IS THE CASE WITH MY VEHICLE, THE CONNECTION AT THE BLOWER RESISTOR IS MELTED. THE SYSTEM HAS A 40AMP FUSE, WHICH DOES NOT BLOW BEFORE THE WIRING MELTS???.....THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD. CHRYSLER SHOULD HAVE DONE A RECALL ON THIS. I'VE OPENED A CASE WITH CHRYSLER, AND SO FAR HAVE GOTTEN NOWHERE WITH THEM.....THEY JUST WANT ME TO TAKE VEHICLE INTO DEALER SO THEY CAN CHARGE ME THERE OUTRAGEOUS RATES FOR LOOKING AT THE PROBLEM, THEN (ACCORDING TO THE DISCUSSION THREADS ONLINE) THEY'LL SUGGEST I REPLACE THE WHOLE BLOWER UNIT/SYSTEM FOR ABOUT $800. OCTOBER 2008 WE PURCHASED A JEEP COMMANDER WITH WARRANTY FROM CARMAX MODESTO, CA.A NUMBER OF WEEKS LATER THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND WENT OFF, CAME BACK ON ETC. WE TOOK IT TO CAR MAX AND MADE INQUIRIES AS TO TRADING IT IN. DURING THE INSPECTION WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY COULDN'T TAKE IT BACK AS THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION THE REPAIR IT MATERIALIZED THAT THE WINDSCREEN HAD BEEN DAMAGED AND REPLACED WITH ALL OF ITS WIRING ETC CUT AND NOT REPLACE/REPAIRED AT CARMAX ROSEVILLE, CA BEFORE IT WAS SOLD TO US CAR MAX TOLD US THIS THEMSELVES. JEEP FIXED THE AIR BAG & TRANSMISSION BUT CARMAX INSISTED THAT THEY REPAIR THE WINDSCREEN, WIPERS, WIRING ETC. BEFORE WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TURN IT IN TO REPAIR THE ORIGINAL REPAIR JOB THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME BACK ON. 4 WEEKS AGO CAR MAX MODESTO WAS IN RECEIPT OF OUR VEHICLE AND IT HAS YET TO BE FIXED. THEY COULDN'T FIX IT AND SENT IT TO JEEP. JEEP COULDN'T FIX IT SO THEY CONTACTED CHRYSLER. WE ASKED THEM TO TAKE BACK THIS VEHICLE; THEY REFUSED TO. WHEN THEY LEARNED FROM JEEP & CHRYSLER THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST THEM $6,000 EARLIER THIS WEEK THEY THEN DECIDED TO CONSIDER OUR REQUEST. THEY DECIDED NOT TO. IT HAS TAKEN NEARLY 4 WEEKS TO FIND A WAY TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AS THE PARTS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE JOB ARE NO LONGER BEING PRODUCED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HAVING THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER TO DETERMINE IF THE FAILURE WAS RELATIVE TO THE RECALL. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT DID NOT BELIEVE THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM WAS CAUSING THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000.

THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. THEY SUGGESTED THAT THE IGNITION COULD BE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES, BUT THERE WERE NO RESOLUTIONS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,010 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,000.

ON APRIL 25, 2008, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND REMAINED LOCKED IN THIRD GEAR WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO HIS RESIDENCE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. PREVIOUSLY, THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP TO BE DIAGNOSED AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE CONTROL MODULE FAILED; HOWEVER, THE DEALER CONTINUES TO STATE THAT THERE IS NO FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,166 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
RECALL NOTICE FROM CHRYSLER. TOOK COMMANDER INTO SHOP FOR REPAIR. AFTER 4 HOURS, TECHNICIAN STATED THAT UNABLE TO DOWNLOAD PROGRAM FROM CORPORATE COMPUTER TO FIX. NEED TO BRING CAR BACK LATER. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME FOR A RECALL, AND OUR CAR HAS BEEN IN THERE A TOTAL OF 4 TIMES FOR SAFETY ISSUES SUCH AS BROKEN SEAT BELTS. IT HAS BEEN THERE A NUMBER OF OTHER VISITS, STARTING AT 2555 MILES, FOR DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD MOUNT, DEFECTIVE GAS FILL LINE MOUNT, AND DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID PUMP. PREVIOUS HAZARDS WERE HANDLED, BUT RESULTED IN A GOOD NUMBER OF DAYS OF AT LEAST 6 HOUR SERVICES. NOW, AFTER 4 HOURS, THIS SERVICE IS NOT COMPLETED AND I HAVE TO BRING THE CAR BACK AGAIN. *TR

BOTH REAR DOORS AND THE DRIVERS DOOR ARE BROKEN THE REAR DOORS ARE HARDLY EVER USED SO IT ISN'T FROM WEAR AND TEAR OR ABUSE. I'VE NOTICED THAT MY JEEP IS A MONEY HUNGRY MACHINE. I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE I HAD PREVIOUSLY OWNED A JEEP CHEROKEE LMT AND NEEDED SOMETHING BIGGER AND SAFER TO HAUL AROUND THE BOYS I NANNY. I BOUGHT IT THINKING I WOULD HAVE IT FOR AWHILE. I HAVE REPORTED SEVERAL SAFETY AND HAZARDOUS PROBLEMS TO NHTSA ALREADY. I HAVE ANOTHER COMPLAINT NOW. I HAVE THREE RATHER LARGE RUST SPOTS AROUND MY REAR LICENSE PLATE ON THE TAIL GATE. THEY HAVE A WARRANTY FOR RUST UP TO 100,000 MILES. I TOOK IT IN TO GET REPAIRED BECAUSE I HAVE 94,000 MILES AND THEY WONT FIX IT BECAUSE THEY STATE THAT IT NEEDS TO BE RUSTED THROUGH. I HAVE NOT FOUND IN ANY FORM THAT IT NEEDS TO BE RUSTED THROUGH BUT THEY STILL WONT FIX IT. THE PAINT ON BOTH BUMPERS ARE PEELING OFF AND BOTH HAVE LARGE BLACK SPOTS FROM THE BUMPER BEING EXPOSED. BOUGHT VEHICLE 3/31/06 NEW NOW HAS 60,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE HAS HAD NUMEROUS INSTANCES WITH STALLING WHILE DRIVING. ALL THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS WILL LIGHT UP AND HEADLIGHTS WILL SWITCH ON/OFF TO HIGH BEAMS ON THEIR OWN. WILL LOSE POWERSTEERING AND THERE SEEMS TO BE A CHANGE IN ACCELERATION. ON MARCH 20TH I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROX 30 MILES PER HOUR AND LOST POWER BUT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS DID NOT GO OFF AS USUAL. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND PARKED VEHICLE. HAD MY STEP-FATHER COME TO ASSIST AND HE STATED THERE CAR DIDN'T SEEM TO WANT TO GO GEAR PROPERLY, ASSUMED THIS WAS DUE TO THE PRIOR "ELECTRICAL" PROBLEMS AND DROVE COMMANDER TO DEALERSHIP APPROX. 1 MILE AWAY. WAS TOLD THERE WAS A PLUG IN THE TRANSMISSION LEAKING WHERE THE ELECTRICAL WIRES ENTER, COST TO REPAIR $430. AFTER COMPLETING THOSE REPAIRS WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION IS DESTROYED AND NEEDS REPLACED AT $3500. CHRYSLER IS NOT OFFERING ANY ASSISTANCE TO AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURER ISSUE. I RENTED A CODE READER THAT READ U1411, NO CONNECTION TO THE PROBLEM SO I CLEARED THE CODE AND IT FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. NOW IT DOESN'T FIX IT. JEEP SAYS THEY DON'T KNOW UNLESS I TAKE IT IN FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. BUT I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND LOTS AND LOTS OF JEEP OWNERS HAVING THE EXACT SAME COMPLAINT. THE IMPAIRMENT OF VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING INCREASED THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY AND A MECHANIC REPLACED THE BATTERY. THE FAILURE RESURFACED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. SHE IS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED AND REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63000.

THE CONTACT HAS NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THE MECHANIC STATED THE STALL COULD TO CAUSE BY SOMETHING ELECTRICAL. THE CONTACT STATED THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD CAUSE A CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000. JO
JUST BOUGHT 2006 JEEP COMMANDER (3.7L V6 4X4) USED WITH 14K MILES, CLEAN CAR FAX REPORT WITHIN FIRST 36 HOURS OF OWNERSHIP SPEED SENSOR WENT OUT RESULTING IN SERVICE APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS AFTER OWNERSHIP I STALLED WITH MY 8 AND A HALF MONTH PREGNANT WIFE ON THE INTERSTATE. WE JUST HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AM QUESTIONING WHETHER OR NOT THIS VEHICLE WILL BE SAFE FOR MY WIFE AND CHILD. WAITING UNTIL SOMETHING DISASTROUS HAPPENS TO DO SOMETHING IS NOT A GOOD POLICY AND FEEL THAT IS THE ONLY THING THAT WILL CAUSE THE GOVERNMENT TO DO SOMETHING. *TR
THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES WERE POORLY DESIGNED AND HAVE ALL CRACKED ONLY AFTER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME WITH NORMAL USE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THE FACT THAT PASSENGERS WOULD HAVE DIFFICULTY EXITING VEHICLE IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS VEHICLE. I'VE READ NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER OWNERS. CHRYSLER DOES SEEM TO WANT RECOGNIZE THIS AS MANUFACTURING/DESIGN FLAW, WHICH IS UNFORTUNATE SINCE IT IS RATHER COSTLY TO REPLACE THE DOOR HANDLES. TO REPLACE ALL FOUR WOULD COST $2,000 PLUS DOLLARS. PLEASE DO SOMETHING TO PROTECT THE CUSTOMERS, WHO DESERVE BETTER. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY JEEP COMMANDER HOME FROM WORK. I TURNED THE CORNER AND THE JEEP ABRUPTLY STOPPED MOVING. IT FELT LIKE I HIT A CEMENT BLOCK. THE JEEP WOULD NOT MOVE BACKWARD OR FORWARD. I GOT OUT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED, AND TO MY AMAZEMENT I SAW THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE FOLDED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. BECAUSE OF THE WAY IT WAS POSITIONED, IT HAD NOT CHANGED THE HEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK PULLED IT ONTO THE FLATBED, THE TIRE DISLODGED AND THE FRONT END CRASHED TO THE GROUND, SMASHING IT. IN THE MORNING I DETERMINED THAT THE BALL JOINT BROKE AND THE TIRE CAME OFF THE AXEL. I AM LUCKY TO BE ALIVE BECAUSE I DRIVE ALL DAY FOR WORK AND COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY. MY WIFE COULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING. WE ARE AFRAID THAT EVEN IF WE GET THIS REPAIRED THAT MAYBE IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS SHOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE WITH ONLY 70K MILES AND A VEHICLE THAT HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED BY A JEEP DEALER. *TR
