TYPICALLY WHEN IDLING AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN THE ENGINE WILL DIE UPON ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. 7 SEPARATE INCIDENTS THE ENGINES DIED ONCE WHILE DECELERATING AT ABOUT 45 MPH. ALMOST HAVE BEEN HIT BY CAR BEHIND TWO DIFFERENT TIMES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER 3 DIFFERENT TIMES AND GOT THE SAME ANSWER - UNABLE TO DUPLICATE. THE CAR HAS BEEN A SAFETY HAZARD SINCE PURCHASING NEW IN DECEMBER 2006. THE LAST OCCURRENCE WAS LISTED BELOW AS THE INCIDENT DATE. *AK
FRONT WINDSHIELD CRACKS (2) IN 1ST 3,000 MILES.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WAS A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE CLEAR. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE DEALER HAS NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 30,400 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,300.
MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER V-8 4.7L, STALLED 4 TIMES. IT STALLED QUICKLY WITH NO WARNING, THE WORST BEING ON THE HIGHWAY LAST MONTH. THE ENGINE CUT OUT, I HAD TO PUT IN NEUTRAL OR P ARK TO START THE CAR AGAIN. VERY SCARY. I CALLED THE JEEP DEALER AND TOLD THEM OF THE PROBLEM, THE ASKED IF A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON I TOLD THEM NO. THEY SAID NOTHING COULD BE DONE, KEEP DRIVING IT. ALSO, HAD A PROBLEM THAT THE SERVICE 4X4 LIGHT AND ESP LIGHT CAME ON FOR NO REASON WHEN TURN ING THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON IT SOMETIMES GOING AWAY. WILL USUALLY NOT HAPPEN FOR MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES, NOT ENOUGH TIME TO GET TO THE DEALER TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
I WON A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER AND HAD SOME MAJOR PROBLEMS, MOST NOTIABLY TRANSMISSION FAILURES AND STALLING WHILE DRIVING. THE PROBLEM HAD PICKED UP. JEEP DENIED THERE WAS A PROBLEM., BUT THE DEALERSHIP STAFF WAS SEEING THIS ALOT. LAST WEEK I WAS DRIVING WITH MY FAMILY ON A WINDING ROAD IN THE MOUNTAINS WITH A BOAT IN TOW AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE AND NOT GO OVER THE EDGE. THEN, TODAY IT HAPPENED AGAIN IN TRAFFIC AT 40 MPH. I HAD TO PUT IN NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING AND RESTART. PLEASE DO SOMETHING. THE DEALER WOULD NOT HELP, AND SAID IT WA S JEEP'S PROBLEM. THE JEEP REPRESENTATIVE STATED THEY DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH STALLING. *AK
FROM NEW, I HAVE NOTED AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION OF MY COMMANDER WHEN STOPPED ON AN INCLINE. THE VEHICLE DRIFTS BACKWARD UNLESS YOU APPLY THE BRAKE. SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE LEFT IT DRIFT A FOOT OR SO TO SEE IF IT WOULD STOP DRIFTING, BUT IT WAS USUALLY NOT SAFE TO LET IT CONTINUE. OBVIOUSLY APPLYING THE BRAKE IS THE NORMAL THING YOU WOULD DO WHEN STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC LIGHT ANYWAY, SO I DIDN'T CONSIDER IT A REAL PROBLEM. I REPORTED IT TO MY DEALERSHIP, AND THEY CHECKED THE TCM FOR ANY ERRORS OR PROBLEMS, CLAIMING THEY FOUND NONE. I ASKED IF THEY COULD PLEASE CHECK IT AGAIN, TEST DRIVE IT, ETC., AND THEY REPORTED THAT AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO SERVICE BULLETINS OR ISSUES THEY SAW A RECOMMENDATION BASED ON A NUMBER THEY FOUND ON THE TRANSMISSION OR TCM THAT A "FLASH" OF THE TCM SHOULD BE PERFORMED. THEY REPORT THAT THIS WAS DONE. TODAY, UPON RECEIVING THE VEHICLE BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP, I TESTED THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF THIS CONDITION HAD BEEN FIXED. TODAY I FOUND A SAFE LOCATION TO TEST, AND THIS TIME I LET THE VEHICLE CONTINUE TO DRIFT BACKWARD. TO MY SURPRISE, IT CONTINUED TO DRIFT FOR ABOUT 15 FEET, AND THE VEHICLE ACTUALLY STALLED. I DID THIS TWICE WITH THE SAME RESULTS. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY INCIDENTS OR ACCIDENTS RELATED TO THIS ISSUE, BUT I DO FEEL THAT IT IS NOT CORRECT BEHAVIOR AND BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. I CANNOT REALLY EVEN THINK OF ANY SITUATIONS WHERE THIS WOULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT UNLESS THERE WAS A BRAKE FAILURE OR SOMETHING, OR IF THE VEHICLE COULDN'T BE RESTARTED AFTER A STALL. I AM JUST REPORTING THIS VERY ODD BEHAVIOR FOR AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I CAN RE-CREATE THIS PROBLEM AT ANY TIME.
I LEASED MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER 4X2 4.7 V8 IN 2006. THE VEHICLE BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS THE SAME DAY I BROUGHT IT HOME. THE VEHICLE STALLS FREQUENTLY AND THE ELECTRIC SYSTEM DISABLES. THE STALLING OCCURS WITHOUT WARNING. THE STALLING ALSO OCCURS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND WHILE THE VEHICLE IS NOT MOVING. WHEN THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF, THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY DISABLED. THE BRAKES WONT WORK AND I LOSE TOTAL CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN 2007 DUE TO THIS ISSUE, JEEP/CHRYSLER HAS DENIED THE REPAIR EVEN THOUGH I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER. THE ODOMETER IS ALSO INCORRECT, IT CHANGES NUMBERS FREQUENTLY. CHRYSLER INFORMED ME THAT THE VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE AND DENIED ANY FURTHER REPAIRS CONCERNING THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE IS STILL THE SAME, IT STALLS VERY OFTEN. PLEASE HELP ME. *TR
I HAVE HAD OUR 2006 JEEP COMMANDER FOR JUST OVER SIX MONTHS. WHILE TRAVELING ON A PAVED SURFACE, A ROCK, ABOUT THE SIZE OF A QUARTER, WAS THROWN UP INTO MY WINDSHIELD CAUSING A"BULLSEYE" EXACTLY IN MY LINE OF SIGHT. I BELIEVE THAT EITHER THE DESIGN AND POSITION OF THE WINDSHILD OR THE MATERIALS USED MUST BE THE PROBLEM AS I HAVE HEARD OF OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROMLEM. I DO BELIEVE THAT THIS COULD BE A SAFETY PROBLEM.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE STALLED SPORADICALLY WITHOUT WARNING AND CAUSED A CRASH. THE CONTACT TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. ON ONE OCCASION, THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT PROVIDE AN EXPLANATION. WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLS, IT USUALLY RESTARTS AFTER A BRIEF WAITING PERIOD; HOWEVER, IT FAILED TO RESTART AFTER THE CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE CONTACT HAS A COPY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 700 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,201.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP AT 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE REMAINED OFF FOR APPROXIMATELY TWENTY SECONDS. THE CONTACT SHIFTED THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURNED THE KEY IN THE OFF POSITION, AND THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. APPROXIMATELY TWO HOURS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. ONCE AGAIN, SHE SHIFTED THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURNED THE KEY IN THE OFF POSITION, AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE # OF CYLINDERS WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 10,600.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER 4X2. WHILE DRIVING 2-5 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE ALSO LOST POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 8,755.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. ON MAY 22, 2007, WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE ENGINE FAILED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES PREVIOUSLY. ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED AFTER THE ENGINE FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY AFTER EACH FAILURE. THAT SAME DAY, ANTI-FREEZE BEGAN SPRAYING OUT OF THE VEHICLE'S GRILL. THE DEALER STATED THAT A ROCK CREATED A HOLE IN THE RADIATOR, BUT COULD NOT SHOW PROOF OF THIS TO THE CONTACT. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 24,200 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.
VEHICLE HAS STALLED TWICE DURING THE LAST WEEK. ONCE DRIVING THROUGH A NEIGHBORHOOD AS 20 MPH. SECOND TIME WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT A TARGET STORE. *TR
ENGINE STALLS OCCURRED 4 TIMES IN THE YEAR SINCE OBTAINED. ALL AT LOW SPEED. POSSIBLE STALL AT HIGH SPEED BUT SEEMED ENGINE STARTED ITSELF UP. OTHER TIMES HAD TO RESTART. *TR
WE PURCHASED A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER IN APRIL 2007. SINCE WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE, IT HAS STALLED ON 12 SEPARATE, RANDOM OCCASIONS. I HAVE DOCUMENTED THE STALLS WHICH HAVE OCCURRED WHILE IN REVERSE, DRIVING LESS THAN 10MPH, AND AT HIGHER SPEEDS ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN THE CAR SHUTS DOWN WHILE ON, I HAVE TO PULL OVER (WITH NO LIGHTS OR POWER STEERING) AND PUT THE CAR INTO PARK TO RESTART THE CAR. IT ALWAYS STARTS UP AGAIN WITH NO PROBLEMS. I HAVE ALSO NOTED THAT IT OCCURS IN BOTH COLD AND WARM TEMPERATURES. I HAVE HAD THE CAR IN JEEP'S SERVICE DEPTS ON THREE OCCASIONS. ON THE FIRST TWO VISITS, THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. ON THE THIRD VISIT, THEY ADMITTED THAT OTHERS HAD COMPLAINED OF THE SAME PROBLEMS AND THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH TO SEE IF THAT CORRECTS THE PROBLEM. I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER COMMANDER OWNERS WHO ALSO HAVE HAD THIS SAME MAJOR ISSUE WITH THEIR VEHICLE. *TR
HE FIRST INSTANCE WAS WHEN HAD STOPPED AT MY HOUSE, GONE IN AND GRABBED SOME PAPERWORK, GOT BACK IN THE SUV AND THEN WHEN PUTTING THE SUV INTO REVERSE IT JUST TURNED OFF. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE I WAS ACTUALLY PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. ON MY WAY BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 35 MPH ON A STRAIGHT ROAD WHEN THE SUV SHUT OFF. THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES, BUT I NOTICED THE STEREO SEEMED TO BE ON , JUST THE DISPLAY. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL WHILE GOING ABOUT 15 MPH AND STARTED IT, AND THEN PUT IT BACK IN GEAR. I WENT TO THE DEALER AGAIN, I WAS ON MY WAY TO FINALIZE THE PURCHASE, AND RELATED THIS TO THEM. THEY STATED THEY WEREN'T SURE WHY IT HAPPENED BUT WOULD LOOK INTO IT. I WAS DROPPING IT OFF ON 5/22/07. *AK
WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE STALLS. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED, THE AIR CONDITIONER SHUT OFF, AND THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR, GAS TANK, AND CHECK VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPLACEMENT WAS MADE. APPROXIMATELY A WEEK LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND ENGINE SIZE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 20,200 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000.
SUDDEN ACCELERATION - CAR WASH. ATTENDANT ENTERED VEHICLE AT END OF JAX CAR WASH IN ROCHESTER HILLS, MICHIGAN. I PERSONALLY OBSERVED EVENT - WHEN DRIVER PUT VEHICLE IN GEAR IN SUDDENLY VIOLENTLY ACCELERATED. THE QUICK REACTION OF THE JAX DRIVER PREVENTED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. HE NEARLY MISSED A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF THE CAR WASH BEING DRIED OFF BY OTHER EMPLOYEES AND SEVERAL EMPLOYEES BY THE DRY TOWEL CONTAINERS - MANAGING TO GO BETWEEN THEM. HE ENDED UP RUNNING OVER A SIDEWALK CURB, BUT MANAGED TO GET IT INTO NEUTRAL AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF BEFORE ENTERING THE MAIN HIGHWAY. THE VIOLENT ACCELERATION I OBSERVED WAS JUST SHORT OF A MIRACLE THAT HE MANAGED TO AVOID PERSONNEL, VEHICLES, AND TO STOP THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT ENTERED THE HIGHWAY. AFTER SHUTTING IT DOWN FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND PERFORMED NORMALLY. THIS VEHICLE HAD BEEN THROUGH THIS CAR WASH PREVIOUSLY WITH NO ACCELERATION PROBLEM. IT HAD JUST TURNED OVER 18,000 MILES AND HAD NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN PREVIOUSLY. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION.*AK
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A NEW 2006 JEEP COMMANDER LIMITED. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS LESS THAN 6000 MILES. OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS THE JEEP HAS UNEXPECTEDLY STALLED AT LEAST 7 TIMES. ONE PARTICULAR STALL HAPPENED WHILE PULLING INTO A BUSY STREET AND NEARLY RESULTED IN A COLLISION. I WANT TO RETURN THE VEHICLE BUT THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT TAKE IT BACK. I PURCHASED THE JEEP FOR MY WIFE TO DRIVE AND SHE TAKES OUR 2 CHILDREN WITH HER IN THE VEHICLE. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THEM BEING INJURED OR MORE EVEN MORE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES AS A RESULT OF THE JEEP STALLING. MY GOAL IS TO RECEIVE A FULL REFUND OR TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPLACED WITH SAME MAKE, MODEL, ETC WITH AN ENGINE THAT IS MECHANICALLY SOUND AND DOES NOT STALL. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?

THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE, BUT ADVISED THE CONTACT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND, WHEN IT SHUTS DOWN OR STALLS, HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THEM. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND REQUEST A RENTAL UNTIL THE FAILURE IS CORRECTED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 22,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I HAVE A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER SPORT, 4.7L 4X4 PURCHASED IN FEBRUARY '06. THIS MORNING WAS THE THIRD TIME THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED FOR NO APPARENT REASON, CAUSING COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING & POWER BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN SLOWLY THROUGH THE NEIGHBORHOOD, APPROACHING STOP SIGNS OR TURNS, DURING ALL 3 INCIDENTS. ALL 3 TIMES I PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND IMMEDIATELY IT RESTARTED. *AK
I WAS EXITING I65 S TO I85 NORTH AT 40 MPH AS I CAME OUT OF THE RAMP THE ENGINE STALLED. THE IGNITION SWITCH AND ALL OF THE LIGHTS AND GAUGES CONTINUED TO READ ACCURATELY. I COASTED TO THE SHOULDER AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. IT IMMEDIATELY STARTED ,AND RAN NORMALLY. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A BAD SITUATION IF THERE HAD BEEN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT THE TIME. THE JEEP WAS DUE FOR ITS FIRST SERVICE TRIP, SO IT WENT TO THE DEALER ON MAY 9, 2007. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER ,WHO REPORTED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED AS IT WENT INTO THE SHOP. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT HE FELT HE HAD STRUCK THE KEY WHILE MOVING THE VEHICLE AND THIS CAUSED THE STALLING. THIS COULD BE TRUE. HOWEVER, I AM ONLY 5' 3" TALL AND EVEN IF I HAD THE SEAT ALL OF THE WAY FORWARD WITH THE FRONT OF THE SEAT ADJUSTED ALL OF THE WAY UP, IT WAS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE KNEE TO HIT THE KEY. THESE TWO INCIDENTS WERE THE ONLY ONES THAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED, BUT I FELT THERE WAS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM. *AK
NOTICE TEMP GAUGE IN VEHICLE RISING. VEH BEGAN TO OVERHEAT. LOST ENGINE COOLANT. HAPPENS WHEN DRIVEN VEHICLE FOR A PERIOD OF 20 MINS OR MORE. IT'S CONSEQUENCES HAD TO GET VEHICLE TOW TO DEALER AND TO HOME , TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FIVE TIMES AND YET PROBLEMS STILL EXISTS. THEY HAVE DONE EVERYTHING FROM ADD COOLANT TO TAKE ENGINE PART, VEHICLE STAYED AT DEALER AT ONE POINT FOR 15 DAYS. AND SAME PROBLEMS. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 COMMANDER WHICH TRIES TO DIE WHEN IDLING. WHILE WAITING IN LINE AT BANK OR AT STOP SIGNS/LIGHTS. THE RPMS DROP FROM USUALLY 1000RPM TO BELOW 500RPM. I HAVE FOUND THAT IT WILL ONLY DO THIS IN DRIVE. IF I SHIFT IT INTO NEUTRAL, THE RPMS IMMEDIATELY GO BACK UP. IT HAS HAPPENED FOR THE PAST YEAR, AT LEAST TWICE A MONTH. *JB

WINDSHIELD APPEARS TO CRACK EASILY. WHEN THE WINDSHIELD WAS BEING REPLACED IT DEFECTIVE BODY SEALANT/BONDING WAS DISCOVERED. THE DEALERSHIP AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED, AND SAID THEY WOULD LOG THE COMPLAINT. BUT THEY WERE UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE GLUE USED TO BOND THE VEHICLE PIECES AT THE PINCH WELDS WAS SOFT, AND COULD BE REMOVED WITH ONE'S FINGERTIP. THE WINDSHIELD SEALANT, WHEN PEELED OFF, REMOVED THE GLUE FROM THE BODY, INDICATING THAT THE PAINT ADHERED BETTER TO THE BODY, GLUE WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY BONDED TO THE BODY. COMMANDER XK JEEP FAULTY/WEAK INTERIOR DOOR PANEL 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 A PROBLEM WITH JEEP COMMANDER OWNERS THE INTERIOR DOOR PANELS CIRCULAR PLASTIC/CHROME DOOR HANDLE SNAPS/BREAKS OUT RESULTING IN THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE DROPS BEHIND THE PANEL AND UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM INSIDE ON ALL 4 DOORS. PROBLEM IS THAT THE PIN AND ALL THE MECHANISM IS MOUNTED ON THE DOOR PANEL ITSELF. I NEED THE TSB TO REPAIR AS THE DEALER SAYS TO REPAIR THEY MUST REPLACE ENTIRE DOOR PANELS AT MY COST, WHEN OBVIOUSLY A WEAK DESIGN FAILURE FOR ALL COMMANDERS 2006 TO 2010. TODAY JUNE 2011 AND THE PROBLEM AFFECTS 2006 TO 2010, THE JEEP DEALERS DO NOT HAVE A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE DRIVERS DOOR BROKE IN 2007 AND THE PASSENGER DOOR BROKE IN 2008 AND NOW THE RIGHT REAR DOOR PANEL IS CRACKED AND BREAKING OUT AROUND THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE. *TR
TL-CALLER OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. CURRENT MILEAGE 19000. FAILURE MILEAGE 18950. WIFE WAS DRIVING VEHICLE AND APPROACHED STOP SIGN. AFTER STOPPING SHE HIT GAS TO ACCELERATE AND VEHICLE SHUT OFF. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. AFTER FIVE SECONDS SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. WEATHER WAS LOW 60'S, CLOUDY AND DRY. SPEED AT TIME OF INCIDENT IS UNKNOWN. KTF UPDATED 06/08/07. *JB

I OWN A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER AND THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WHILE SLOWING TO A STOP. THE STALLING STARTED AROUND 4,000 MILES. THERE ARE CURRENTLY 9,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE TWICE IN THE PAST MONTH AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ON 4/24/07 THEY UPDATED THE PCM BUT THE ISSUE STILL EXISTS. I JUST READ AN ARTICLE IN NEWSPAPER ABOUT THE JEEP COMMANDER'S STALLING PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME, BUT LUCKILY, NOT AT A HIGH SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY. THE COMMANDER HAS ONLY STALLED ONCE ON ME, ACTUALLY, WITHIN THE LAST WEEK, WHILE DRIVING, BUT MANY TIMES IT SERIOUSLY HESITATES WHEN I START TO ACCELERATE. QUESTIONS TO DEALER SAID MAYBE IT WAS POOR GAS, OR A VAPOR LOCK (ABOUT THE STALLING)? I NEVER HAD IT DOCUMENTED WITH THEM ABOUT THE STALL, NOW AFTER READING THIS ARTICLE, I AM CONCERNED. THE STALL HAPPENED WITHIN THE LAST WEEK, SO IT HAS NOT BEEN BACK TO DEALER. IT STARTED RIGHT UP AFTER I COASTED TO SIDE OF ROAD, AND PLACED IN PARK. HAVE THERE BEEN ANY COMPLAINTS ON THE WINDSHIELD ANGLE, I HAVE GONE THROUGH THREE FROM ROCKS!!! GLASS VERY STRAIGHT UP! I DO LIKE THE TRUCK THOUGH. PURCHASE DATE APPROXIMATE. I DO LIKE DEALER, AND HAVE NOT ADDRESSED THIS PROBLEM TO THEM (STALL), BECAUSE IT ONLY HAPPENED ONCE, AND I WAS UNAWARE OF CURRENT PROBLEM BEING LOOKED INTO. WHILE TRAVELING OVER 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE STALLED. I ASSUMED IT WAS DUE TO IT BEING LOWER THAN 1/4 FULL. I REFUELED WITH 87 OCTANE TO FULL, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL AT FULL STOPS AND ON THE HIGHWAY A TOTAL OF 9 MORE TIMES. THE NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN SO I REFILLED IT WITH 89 OCTANE. IN THE FIFTEEN MONTHS I'VE OWNED THE CAR (PURCHASED NEW FROM A JEEP DEALER) IT HAS BEEN TO THE ORIG. DEALER AS WELL AS A DIFFERENT DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES FOR ELECTRONIC RELATED ISSUES. EARLY ON THE CAR EXPERIENCED TROUBLE WITH THE RIGHT FRONT ELECT. PASSENGER WINDOW OPERATING IMPROPERLY. THEN A SERIES OF INCIDENTS HAPPENED WHERE THE DASH PANEL LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND THE CAR WOULD STALL. AT TIMES THERE WAS A NOISE FROM UNDER THE CAR. AFTER STOPPING AND RESTARTING THE CAR WOULD RUN PROPERTY FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. THEN THE INCIDENTS WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. THE MOST TROUBLING INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN I WAS STOPPING AT RED LIGHT - DEPRESED THE BRAKE PEDAL AT LOW SPEED.... AND THE CAR KEPT ROLLING UNTIL IT IMPACTED THE CAR IN FRONT. MINOR DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES BUT SCARY AS HECK. INFORMED THE ORIG. DEALER AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING. THE INCIDENTS WITH THE LIGHTS AND THE NOISE AND OTHER SPOOKY ELECT PROBLEMS - SUCH AS THE MIDDLE HVAC UNIT PUTTING OUT HEAT WHILE THE FRONT AND REAR PUT OUT COLD.- PROMPTED ME TO FIND A DIFFERENT DEALER TO TAKE THE CAR TO. THEY (NALLEY HERE IN ATLANTA) DID A GOOD JOB AND UPDATED SOME SOFTWEAR AND CHANGED THE IGNITION SWITCH. THAT ALLEVIATED THE PROBLEMS FOR TWO WEEKS THEN THE NEW IGNITION SWITCH FAILED. THE PROMPLTY REPLACED THAT AS WELL EVEN THOUGH IT WAS QUITE A MYSTERY TO THEM. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD TWO INCIDENTS WHERE TURNING ON THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILED TO START THE CAR - THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. ALLOWED THE CAR TO SIT FOR A MINUTE THEN IT STARTED. *TR
MY WIFE EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE AND WAS FORCED TO MOVE INTO THE LEFT LANE TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER. SHE WAS TRAVELING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED, LESS THAN 10 MPH, AS SHE APPROACHED A STOP LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS ON A SLIGHT INCLINE, AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES PULSATED, THEN, THE BRAKE WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOORBOARD. SHE IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND WAS TOLD THAT OTHER CUSTOMERS HAD COMPLAINED OF THE SAME PROBLEM, AND DAIMLER CHRYSLER HAD BEEN CONTACTED, BUT HAD DONE NOTHING TO SOLVE THIS OBVIOUSLY VERY DANGEROUS SAFETY PROBLEM. *AK
I BOUGHT THIS JEEP COMMANDER IN MARCH 23, 2006. THE FIRST TIME THAT THE VEHICLE STALLS WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON THE FREEWAY WAS FOUR MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT IT. THE POWER WENT OFF AS IF THE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF AND THE STEERING WHEEL HARDENED WHICH MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN TO THE SHOULDER LANE. I IGNORED THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE IT NEVER CAME BACK UNTIL APRIL 5-10, 2007. I BROUGHT THE COMMANDER TO A DEALER IN THE AREA AND HAVE THEM CHECK THE PROBLEM. THEY CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM OR DUPLICATE IT TO FIX IT. THEY TOLD ME THERE WERE NO PROBLEM. I'M SCARED OUT OF MY WITS DRIVING THIS JEEP, NOT KNOWING WHEN IT STALLS AGAIN. A FEW DAYS LATER I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR IT STALLS ON ME AGAIN WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH IN THE FREEWAY. AFTER A WEEK OF RESEARCHING AND DIAGNOSTICS, THEY TOLD ME THEY MIGHT HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM BY UPDATING THE FINAL DRIVE MODULE. TODAY, MAY 3, 2007, WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE COMMANDER STALLS AGAIN. ALL THE LIGHT SIGNS FLICK ON AND OFF AS I DRIVE. I HAVE TWO CHILDREN, 2 AND 10 YEARS OLD AND I'M SO SCARED THAT OTHER CARS WILL HIT US. *TR

- FAULTY INSTRUMENTAL PANEL AND POSSIBLE IGNITION PROBLEM. IGNITION WOULD START, BUT PANEL WOULD NOT TURN ON. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT GO OVER 30 MPH WHILE PANEL WAS OFF AND BRAKE SYSTEM WOULD NOT WORK. THERE WERE ALSO LOSS OF LIGHTS , INCLUDING HEADLIGHT, ENGINE POWER. BRAKE WAS LOCKED WHEN MAKING TURNS. FAULTY ENGINE LIGHT. STALLED ON TURNS AT SLOW SPEED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING IN SPEEDS RANGING FROM 5 MPH TO 20 MPH THE JEEP COMMANDER HAS STALLED. THE STALLING HAPPENED ABOUT 2 - 3 TIME PER MONTH IN TRAFFIC AND STOP LIGHTS. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WERE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THIS PROBLEM, AND THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ASSIST ME UNLESS THEY COULD REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM SO FAR. *AK

AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE FAILURE WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND NO ESTIMATED TIME FOR RECEIVING THE PARTS COULD BE PROVIDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000.
MY WIFE WAS PREPARING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC FROM A PARKING LOT ON A BUSY STREET IN OUR HOMETOWN. IN THIS PARTICULAR PARKING LOT THERE IS A TELEPHONE POLE NEAR THE EGRESS PORTION OF THE PARKING LOT. AS SHE WAS PULLING OUT THE VEHICLE STALLED, CAUSING COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL OF STEERING AND BRAKING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STRIKE THE TELEPHONE POLE CAUSING SOME DAMAGE TO THE JEEP. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE WE FELT IT WOULD BE SAFE FOR OUR FAMILY OF 5, MYSELF, MY WIFE AND MY THREE YOUNG GIRLS UNDER THE AGE OF 8. I HAVE LOST ALL CONFIDENCE IN THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE AND I REFUSE TO PUT MY FAMILY IN JEOPARDY WITH THIS VEHICLE, THIS VEHICLE HAS DONE THIS MANY TIMES BEFORE AND THE DEALER CAN NOT FIND A FIX. I HAVE CONTACTED AN ATTORNEY AND HE HAS TAKEN MY CASE AS A LEMON LAW CLAIM WILL BE FILED. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD NUMEROUS OTHER PROBLEMS SINCE THE WEEK WE BROUGHT IT HOME. I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED JEEP, FROM CJ'S TO CHEROKEE AND NOW THE COMMANDER, I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HAPPY WITH THE JEEP LEGACY BUT I HAVE LOST ALL FAITH IN THE NEW JEEP.
