TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO DOWN SHIFT. ADDITIONALLY, THE TRANSFER CASE WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF FOUR-WHEEL HIGH INTO NEUTRAL OR FOUR WHEEL LOW PROPERLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 13V175000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , POWER TRAIN). THE VEHICLE WAS BEING TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE THIRD TIME DUE TO THE REMEDY NOT CORRECTING THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,300.
ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO MY 7 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER TRIED TO GET OUT OF THE JEEP AND DOOR HANDLE WAS PLASTIC WAS CRACKED AND JUST HANGING. THIS PAST WEEK END WHEN WE HAD THE GRANDCHILDREN AGAIN MY HUSBAND MENTIONED THE DOOR HANDLE WAS BROKEN AND COULD NOT EXIT THE VEHICLE FROM THAT DOOR. WE DECIDED TO LOOK AT ALL THE DOOR HANDLES ARE ALL CRACKED AND BROKEN. I DECIDED TO RESEARCH ONLINE AND THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON AND NEGLECTED FOR YEARS. IF AN EMERGENCY OCCURRED WE WOULD BE TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I WAS VERY UPSET. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE LESS THAN A YEAR AGO AND WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION BECAUSE HAD ONE OWNER. WHY WAS THIS NOT RECALLED, THE PLASTIC IS TOO THIN TO SUPPORT THE HANDLE!! *JS
AFTER APPLICATION OF SAFETY RECALL N23/ NHTSA 13V-175. REPROGRAM FINAL DRIVE CONTROLLER MODULE. 2005 - 2010. (WK) JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. 2006 - 2010. (XK) JEEP COMMANDER, THE TRANSFER CASE OF MY COULD NOT BE SHIFTED OUT OF 4-HIGH TO EITHER NEUTRAL OR 4-LOW. CONSEQUENTLY A MAJOR DRIVE TRAIN COMPONENT HAS BEEN DESTROYED. THIS DEMONSTRATES THE SOFTWARE IS DEFECTIVE AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AND MAY NOT CORRECT THE REASON FOR THE RECALL. THE JEEP CANNOT BE TOWED IN NEUTRAL, AND 4-LOW, A FEATURE I SPECIFICALLY REQUIRED IN A VEHICLE, IS NOW USELESS! AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE AND NO ESTIMATED TIME FOR RECEIVING THE PARTS COULD BE GIVEN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CHECK ENGINE AND THE LOW GAS WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE DROPPED TO EMPTY BUT THE FUEL TANK WAS FULL. THE FAILURES RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER, REAR DRIVER AND REAR PASSENGER SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES WERE CRACKED AND THE DOORS COULD NOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
SINCE WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE, THE REAR DOOR HANDLES AND THE PASSENGER DOOR HANDLES HAVE BEEN CRACKED. OVER THE COURSE OF US OWNING THE VEHICLE FOR THE PAST YEAR THE REAR DOOR HANDLES NO LONGER OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. THIS IS A NOT ONLY A PROBLEM BUT A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IF THERE WOULD BE AN ACCIDENT OR A FIRE OR ANYTHING PEOPLE IN THE BACK SEATS WOULD BE STUCK IN THE VEHICLE. I HAVE READ MANY, MANY SIMILAR ISSUES REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND HOW JEEP REFUSES TO FIX IT UNLESS YOU BUY A WHOLE NEW DOOR PANEL WHICH CAN BE UP TO $600 A DOOR. CHRYSLER SHOULD REALLY RECALL THESE VEHICLES, IT IS A TERRIBLE DESIGN AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING FOR ABOUT 20MINS THE WAS A HARD SHIFT AND MY TRUCK WAS STUCK IN 3RD GEAR AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID IT COULD BE THE SHIFT SOLENOID AND IT WOULD COST 700 TO TAKE MY TRANSMISSION APART TO CHECK IT. $700 LATER IM STILL HAVING THE PROBLEM I BOUGHT THE CAR AT 82K IM NOW AT 92K I KEEP UP REGULAR SERVICE. WHAT IS WEIRD IS WHEN I TURN MY TURN MY TRUCK BACK ON ITS NO LONGER IN 3RD AND IT STAYS THAT WAY FOR SOMETIMES WEEKS BUT IT COMES BACK SURELY. *TR

AM ON 4TH NEW BATTERY. WHEN CAR SITS FOR A SHORT TIME, SAY 3-5 DAYS, BATTERY DISCHARGES AND DIES. GAUGES AND LIGHTS FLASH ON AND OFF WHEN ATTEMPTING A CHARGE. ONE TIME WAS LOCKED OUT OF CAR AS ENTRY FOB WOULD NOT UNLOCK HAD TO BREAK INTO CAR SINCE NO POWER TO CAR TO OPEN OR OPERATE LOCKS. HAVE HAD VEHICLE TOWED TWICE TO DEALER, EACH TIME NOTHING FOUND WRONG, BUT NEW BATTERY INSTALLED TWICE UNDER CURRENT WARRANTY AFTER NEW INTERSTATE BATTERY (9 MONTHS OLD) SUPPOSEDLY WAS DEAD, INTERSTATE REFUNDED ALL MONIES. THIS HAPPENS EACH TIME THE CAR SITS. I HAVE LEFT IT AT THE DEALER AND THEY CAN NOT REPLICATE THE ACTION OR SYMPTOMS. THEY RETURN THE CAR UNTIL I GET STUCK SOMEWHERE WITH A DEAD BATTERY. HAVE HAD MANY ISSUES WITH THE ROOF SKYLITE DRAINS OVERFLOWING INTO THE CAR EVEN AFTER IT WAS REPAIRED. QUESTIONED IF THE INTAKE OF WATER MAY BE A SYMPTOM OF THE OTHER BATTERY PROBLEM. RESPONSE FROM DEALER WAS NO. I WOULD LIKE TO GET THE CAR TO WORK NORMALLY AGAIN. ALL MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN PERFORMED TIMELY ON VEHICLE SINCE PURCHASE AND NO ACCIDENTS. *TR

IT IS OBVIOUS THE SOFTWARE USED IN THIS RECALL WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO SUFFICIENT TESTING TO VALIDATE IT. I THEREFORE FEAR MY CAR IS JUST AS LIABLE TO HAVE A SAFETY DEFECT AS BEFORE THE RECALL. THERE ARE SEVERAL CONSENSUS STANDARDS FOR THE TESTING OF SOFTWARE, THEY WERE DEVELOPED BY IEEE, ANSI, ISO AND UL TO NAME A FEW. WE OWN A SECOND JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WE REFUSE TO HAVE THIS RECALL PERFORMED ON OUR SECOND VEHICLE UNTIL THIS PROBLEM, AND ANY OTHERS THAT MAY BE HIDDEN IN THE POOR DESIGN OF THE SOFTWARE, ARE CORRECTED. *TR
I RECEIVED A CHRYSLER SAFETY RECALL NOTICE OVER A YEAR AND A HALF AGO FOR FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH FOR OUR 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. I'VE CONTACTED MY LOCAL JEEP DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES WITH THE SAME STORY THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART ISN'T AVAILABLE. MY JEEP IS STARTING TO EXPERIENCE ISSUES WITH THE IGNITION AND THE DEALER TELLS ME THEY CAN REPLACE THE IGNITION WITH A NEW ONE SUBJECT TO THE SAME RECALL ISSUES AT MY EXPENSE NON REIMBURSABLE SINCE THE PART IS NOT THE NEW IMPROVED REPLACEMENT IGNITION. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING AS THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFELY REPARABLE AND EXPERIENCING ISSUES. PLEASE ADVISE ! *TR
MY TRANSMISSION FILLS WITH WATER CAUSING IT TO DOWNSHIFT HARD TO 3RD GEAR. I TRIPLE FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION AND IT WAS RUNNING ALRIGHT FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS, THEN IT FILLED WITH WATER AGAIN AND I NOW HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT I HAD BEFORE. I SEE THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE VEHICLES WITH THE 3.7, BUT I HAVE THE V8 AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT I CAN DO ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. *TR

RECALL WAS SUPPOSEDLY TAKEN CARE OF ON 2/28/2014. BUT ON 3/05/2014 AROUND 530PM ON THE PARKWAY GOING HOME FROM WORK MY JEEP STARTED TO HESITANT AND THEN AN EXIT AWAY MY SLIPPERY INDICATION LIGHT CAME ON AND IT MADE ME NERVOUS SO WHEN I GOT HOME I CALLED THE JEEP CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS CLOSED SO I CALLED THE NEXT DAY AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT HAPPEN AND THE RECEPTIONIST SAID SOMEONE WOULD CALL ME BACK. THAT WAS ABOUT 8 AM THEN I CALLED MY JOB TO LET THEM KNOW I'D BE LATE. IT WAS GOING ON ALMOST 10AM NO ONE CALLED SO I CALLED THEM AGAIN AND THEY TOLD ME SOMEONE WILL CALL SO I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAITED FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND THEN WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T LOOK AT MY CAR UNTIL MONDAY OR TUESDAY. I'M VERY UPSET BECAUSE I USE MY CAR TO GET BACK AND FORTH TO WORK AND I'M GOING TO MISS NOW 3 DAYS BECAUSE OF IT AND THEY WOULDNT EVEN GIVE ME A RENTAL SO I WOULDN'T MISS WORK. BACK IN FEBRUARY I GOT NOTICE OF THE FOLLOWING RECALL AND HAD IT PERFORMED EVENTHOUGH WAS NOT HAVING THE PROBLEM. SAFETY RECALL N23/ NHTSA 13V-175. REPROGRAM FINAL DRIVE CONTROLLER MODULE. 2005 - 2010. (WK) JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. 2006 - 2010. (XK) JEEP COMMANDER, AFTER THIS RECALL WAS PERFROM 4LOW WOULD NOT WORK. WE WERE ABLE TO RESET THE MODULE BY RESETTING A FUSE BUT, THIS ONLY LASTED A FEW MONTHS. IN JUNE THE 4LOW STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. BECAUSE WE HEARD THERE WAS A NEW SERVICE BULLETIN OUT WE TOOK IT BACK AGAIN FOR ANOTHER FLASH. THIS TIME THEY WERE ALSO WANTING TO REPLACE THE ACUTATOR MOTOR, WHICH WAS NOT AVAILABLE. OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THIS PART REPLACED HAVE BEEN UNSUCESSFUL. ON TOP OF THIS MY DEALER WAS TELLING ME I HAD TO PAY FOR THIS PART AND THEY ARE CLAIMING IT IS NOT TIED TO THE N23 RECALL. WE HAVE NOT PAID TO HAVE THIS PART REPLACED BECAUSE I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT IS CHRYSLERS DOING. IT IS CLEAR THAT THE SOFTWARE UPDATES HAVE CAUSED THESE ISSUES TO ARISE AND CHRYLSER IS NOT OWNING UP TO IT. I FEEL NHTSA NEEDS TO INFORCE THAT WHEN A RECALL IS MADE IT TRUELY NEEDS TO BE DONE AND THE FIX REALLY WORKS. WE PURCHASED A SECOND HAND JEEP 2005 GRAND CHEROKEE LAST MAY 2013. IT WAS A ONE OWNER ONE DRIVER VEHICLE. BY THE LOOKS OF THE INTERIOR THERE WERE NO OTHER PASSENGERS EVER IN THE CAR. VERY CLEAN AND UNUSED. BY DECEMBER 2013 WE NOTICED CRACKING AND BREAKING AROUND THE PASSENGER AND REAR DOOR HANDLES. WE UTILIZE THE REAR DOORS FOR OUR GRANDCHILDREN. BY FEBRUARY 2014 THE REAR DOOR BEHIND THE DRIVER HAD BROKEN AND HAS APPARENTLY UNATTACHED THE MECHANISM THAT OPENS THE DOOR, WHICH NOW IS UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE THROUGH THAT DOOR. WHEN THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED I WENT ONLINE AND SAW THAT IT WAS A COMMON DEFECT WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL. I CONTACTED JEEP AND JEEP DEALER. NO ONE RESPONDED BACK FROM COMPLAINT FROM JEEP. THE DEALER TOLD US IT WOULD COST $550 PER DOOR TO REPAIR. WHEN I CONTACTED JEEP I ASKED HOW MANY CASUALTIES DOES IT TAKE FOR A RECALL. MY GRANDDAUGHTERS SIT BACK THERE AND COULD NEVER EXIT THE VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. THE HANDLES ARE MADE OF PLASTIC AS IS THE PIECE IT IS CONNECTED TOO. THEY ACTUALLY SELL REPLACEMENT REPAIR KITS FOR THIS ON LINE AND DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED SAID IT WOULD REPLACE THEM FOR A LARGE FEE IF I PURCHASED THE REPAIR KIT. SINCE THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT AND SAFETY ISSUE I DON'T FEEL WE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO REPAIR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A MANUFACTURING RECALL. TO EASILY RESOLVE THIS ISSUE, IS TO JUST CUT THE SEAT BELT STRAP OR TAKE OUT THE ENTIRE REAR SEAT WHICH IS A BIG TIME-CONSUMING MESS TO TAKE OUT & PUT BACK IN PLACE JUST TO LOOSEN THE STRAP AS I READ ONLINE. JEEP FORUM, WITH 70 PAGES AND HUNDREDS OF COMMENTS ON THIS PROBLEM, LOOKS LIKE THE RECALL SOFTWARE UPDATE IS THE PROBLEM AND CHRYSLER HAS NOT YET OWNED UP THE ISSUE.
