THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2005 AND UP HAS INSIDE DOOR PANELS MADE OF PLASTIC ,AND THE DOOR HANDLES WHICH ALLOW OPENING THE VEHICLE DOORS FOR THE INSIDE ARE ATTACHED TO THIS WEAK PLASTIC PANEL. OVER TIME THE DOOR HANDLE PLASTIC ATTACHMENT POINTS BEGAN TO CRACK AND BREAK AWAY , EVENTUALLY CAUSING THE OPENING HANDLE TO FALL OFF,AND THE DOOR IS THEN NOT ABLE TO BE OPENED FROM INSIDE. IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH OR FIRE IN THE VEHICLE WHILE THIS CONDITION EXISTS , THE OCCUPANTS AT THOSE DOORS WOULD BE UNABLE TO ESCAPE THE VEHICLE THRU THE DOORS WITH THIS PROBLEM. CHRYSLER SERVICE STATES THAT THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS FOR THEM TO ASSIST ME IN ANY WAY, TO REPAIR THIS ALL THE INSIDE DOOR PANELS MUST BE REPLACED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND REMAINED DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL REPEATEDLY BEFORE IT RELEASED IN ORDER TO MOVE THE VEHICLE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. IGNITION TURNED OFF FROM TOUCHING THE KEY WHILE DRIVING CAUSING MY JEEP'S ENGINE TO STALL. NO POWER STEERING. WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES SINCE JANUARY OF 2015. I REMOVED THE KEY CHAIN BUT IT STILL HAPPENED AGAIN. THE KEYS'S IGNITION SETS TO CLOSE TO CONTROL PANELS.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND VARIOUS WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION MODULE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE HAS BEEN AN OUTSTANDING RECALL ON THE KEYS/IGNITION SIMILAR TO GM. IT IS OLDER THAN THE HILLS BUT FIAT CHRYSLER HASN'T DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT EXCEPT WAITING FOR PARTS. I BELIEVE I HAVE WAITED LONG ENOUGH BEFORE WE HAVE A TRAGEDY. INTERMITTENTLY, THE DASH LIGHTS GO ON AND GO OFF. IT HAS BEEN TRACED TO THE IGNITION SWITCH.

IN ADDITION, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE WAS FRACTURED AND WOULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR. THE ONLY HANDLE THAT WAS FUNCTIONAL WAS THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE; HOWEVER, IT WAS ALSO FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR PANELS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.

AFTER CHRISTMAS AFTER TAKING MY STEPSON'S COUSIN HOME, I NOTICED THAT THE DOOR HANDLES ON THE BACK DOORS WERE HANGING, WITH THE SURROUNDING PLASTIC BUSTED. I THOUGHT IT HAPPENED WHEN THE DOORS WERE OPENED, AND THAT THEY WERE OPENED TOO HARD. TOOK TO A DEALER (CHEVY DEALER, THAT I BOUGHT VEHICLE FROM) AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD BE BETTER TO REPLACE ENTIRE DOOR PANELS, INSTEAD OF JUST THE DOOR HANDLES. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE A REASONABLE TIMEFRAME TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 22,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HAD TO BE DEPRESSED WITH FORCE IN ORDER TO KEEP THE VEHICLE MOVING. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SHIFTER MODULE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. I HAVEN'T BEEN IN A WRECK YET; BUT THIS IS MORE OF PREVENTATIVE MEASURE. I HAVE LOOKED AT MULTIPLE SITES AND SEEN WHERE THERE HAVE BEEN THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ON INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES BREAKING OFF. I NOTIFIED CHRYSLER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT WAS THE 1ST THEY HAVE HEARD OF IT, AND WAS WILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. ALL FOUR OF MY HANDLES HAVE BROKEN OFF AND I HAVE RIGGED UP THE DRIVER DOOR, BUT AS FAR AS PASSENGERS THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GET OUT IF THEIR WAS AN EMERGENCY. I WOULD THINK JEEP WOULD STEP UP AND ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS POORLY MADE PRODUCT. *TR
WHILE DEPARTING PHILADELPHIA AIRPORT , ENTERING RAMP TO ACCESS INTERSTATE 95, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER, ENGINE, POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK. HEAD LIGHTS WERE STILL FUNCTIONING. WE PHYSICALLY PUSHED THE VEHICLE OFF THE HIGHWAY, SO OTHER DRIVERS AND MUNICIPAL BUS DRIVERS WOULD STOP SCREAMING AT US. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. AFTER CALLING THE POLICE AND A TOW TRUCK, ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER , THE VEHICLE STARTED. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO OUR HOME 100 MILES AWAY IN NEW JERSEY. THE VEHICLE WOULD START AND REMAIN RUNNING FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES, THEN WOULD SHUT DOWN AGAIN, SAME ISSUES. SEVERAL SENSOR CODES CAME UP ON A READOUT BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO THE VEHICLE. AT THIS POINT IT IS FUNCTIONING, BUT WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. ANY HELP OR RECALL INFO ON THIS MATTER WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 GRAND CHEROKEE WITH A DOOR HANDLE. MY DRIVER DOOR HANDLE IS JUST ABOUT TO DROP OFF.. I NOTICED THE "LOOSE" HANDLES BUT MY REAR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR DOESN'T HAVE A HANDLE FOR THE SAME REASON. JEEP DEFINITELY NEEDS TO RECALL THESE ISSUES BEFORE SOMETHING HAPPENS. MASSIVE LIST OF COMPLAINS IN THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND JEEP/CHRYSLER HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL...HUGE SAFETY CONCERN FOR ALL OF US THAT HAVE KIDS IN THE BACK SEAT AND OTHER PASSENGERS AND GOD FORBID THERE'S AN ACCIDENT OPENS LIKE YOU MENTIONED A FIRE OR AN ACCIDENT AND YOUR PASSENGERS CAN'T EXIT THE VEHICLE. *TR
I HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR A RECALL SINCE I RECEIVED SEVERAL NOTICES, IT WAS RECALL N23. THIS CAUSED A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN I COULD NOT SHIFT INTO 4LO ON A STEEP SLIPPERY MUDDY HILL. PRIOR TO THE RECALL THE VEHICLES TRANSFER CASE FUNCTIONED PROPERLY HOWEVER NOW IT IS NOT AND THE MANUFACTURER HAS CLAIMED THAT IT IS A SEPARATE PART THAT BROKE. HOWEVER ONE DEALER INDICATED THAT IT WAS DUE TO A FAULTY FLASH OF THE RECALL. THIS SEEMS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM AND I DO NOT WANT TO BE CHARGED TO FIX AN ISSUE THAT WAS CAUSED BY A RECALL. *TR

AFTER THE DEALER PERFORMED THE N23 FIRMWARE UPDATE ON THE TRANSMISSION TO KEEP THE JEEP FROM IN VOLUNTEERING TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL, WE CANNOT SHIFT THE TRANSFER CASE INTO NEUTRAL OR 4 WHEEL LOW WITHOUT BANGING ON THE ACTUATOR MOTOR, PART # 5143786AA. THIS "FIX" IS NOT SUCCESSFUL NOW. THE JEEP RECOMMENDED FIX SEEMS TO BE TO REPLACE THAT PART BUT IT'S BACK ORDERED BY !,700 UNITS. WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO TOW OUR JEEP BEHIND OUR MOTORHOME IN LATE FEBURARY BACK TO WASHINGTON FROM AZ AND THIS CANNOT BE DONE W/O REPLACING THAT PART WHICH IS NOT AVAILABLE. WE HAVE CONTACTED JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY HAVE ASSIGNED A CASE MANAGER. NOT CLEAR WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT. *TR
AFTER WE HAD THE FOLLOWING RECALL DONE. REPORT RECEIPT DATE: MAY 07, 2013 NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V175000 COMPONENT(S): ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , POWER TRAIN THE VEHICLE HAS FAILED TO BE PUT INTO 4 WD NEUTRAL OR VISA VERSA, NOT ALLOWED TO BE PUT INTO DRIVE. WE TOW BEHIND MY MOTORHOME. IT HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME WE TRIED TO TOW IT, IT WENT INTO NEUTRAL BUT WOULD NOT COME BACK OUT EASILY. AFTER ~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
WE HAD THE RECALL DONE ON THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2005. THEY REFLASHED THE ECU THAT CONTROLS THE ABILITY TO SHIFT THE JEEP INTO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO TOW BEHIND MOTOR HOME. AFTER THE RECALL WE HAD TROUBLE 3 TIMES WITH THE JEEP EITHER NOT SHIFTING FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE OR FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPEN THE JEEP WAS STRANDED AS MY WIFE COULD NOT PULL IT BEHIND THE MOTORHOME. ULTIMATELY I HAD TO GO TO FLORIDA AND WE DROVE THE MOTORHOME AND JEEP BACK SEPARATELY. I CONTACTED THE DEALER ABOUT THIS AND AT THIS POINT I DO NOT HAVE CONFIRMATION THAT THIS WILL BE FIXED AS PART OF THE ORIGINAL RECALL. SINCE THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM I, BASED ON INTERNET SEARCHES, I BELIEVE THAT JEEP SHOULD FIX THE VEHICLE EVEN IF IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I INTEND ON TAKING THE JEEP BACK TO THE DEALER THIS WEEK AND IF I DO NOT GET SATISFACTION I WILL FILE ADDITIONAL COMPLAINTS. I WOULD HOPE THAT THE NHTSA WOULD FORCE JEEP TO REPAIR THE ISSUE. *TR

THIS IS IN REGARDS TO CHRYSLER'S RECALL OF IGNITION SWITCHES - P41. A NOTICE THAT A SAFETY RECALL WAS IN EFFECT WAS ANNOUNCED EARLY SUMMER OF 2014 AND SINCE THEN CHRYSLER KEEPS SAYING THE PART IS UNAVAILABLE. IT'S WELL OVER SIX MONTHS SINCE THE RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED. I HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER 3 TIMES AND THEY CANNOT PROVIDE AN ANSWER TO WHEN THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE. MY JEEP CONTINUES TO HAVE IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEMS, WHILE I DRIVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN ON A DAILY BASIS. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS ABOUT THE DANGEROUS SWITCH PROBLEM AND YET HAS DONE NOTHING TO TIMELY REMEDY THE SITUATION AND MAKE THE PART AVAILABLE TO AFFECTED CONSUMERS. IT IS IRRESPONSIBLE THAT THE GOVERNMENT DOESN'T DO MORE TO PRESSURE AND FINE CHRYSLER FOR THE LACK OF URGENCY BEING PLACED ON THIS RECALL. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHIFTED ITSELF INTO 3RD GEAR. PADDLE SHIFTING WAS INOPERABLE AND VEHICLE WILL UP OR DOWN SHIFT. ERROR CODES GIVEN ARE P0700, AND P0406. PROBLEM SEEMED TO RESOLVE AFTER RESTARTING VEHICLE, BUT THEN SHIFTS AGAIN AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES. NOW VEHICLE STAYS IN 3RD GEAR PERMANENTLY. FLUID LEVELS OK, GUESSING IT IS ELECTRICAL/COMPUTER RELATED ISSUE BASED ON INTERNET RESEARCH. TAKING TO DEALER SOON TO HAVE FINAL DRIVE CONTROLLER NEW SOFTWARE INSTALLED BASED ON RECALL #N23. HOPING IT IS RELATED TO THAT ISSUE. *TR
JEEP SHUDDERS DURING ENGAGEMENT /ACCELERATION. AC EVAPORATOR CONDENSATE WATER CAUSING SHUDDERING IN VEHICLE. VEHICLE APPEARS TO WANT TO SHUT OFF AT STOP LIGHT, RPM'S DROP DRASTICALLY AND SHUDDERS AT TAKE OFF
I RECENTLY TOOK MY JEEP INTO THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER TO REMEDY THE LAST RECALL PERTAINING TO THE SOFTWARE FLASH OF THE FINAL DRIVE CONTROL MODULE. THE DAY BEFORE I TOOK MY JEEP IN I HAD USED THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE LOW. MY JEEP SHOWED NO SYMPTOMS OF THE RECALL AND HAD NO PROPER INCIDENTS YET I DECIDED TO TAKE IT IN TO HAVE THE TASK COMPLETED TO AVOID ANY FUTURE PROBLEMS. SINCE THE DAY I TOOK IT IN (10/5/2013) I HAD NOT USED MY 4 WHEEL DRIVE LOW UNTIL THANKSGIVING DAY. THIS TIME I WAS INFORMED I NEEDED A NEW TRANSFER CASE MOTOR AND THAT IT WOULD COST ME $800 TO REPLACE AND THEY ARE BACK ORDERED FOR 3 OR 4 MONTHS. WHEN DRIVING MY JEEP AROUND SAY ANYWHERE ABOVE 25 MPH, IF I LET OFF THE GAS PEDAL, THE FRONT END NOSE DIVES AND A LOUD CLUNK IS FELT LIKE THE TRANSMISSION FELL OUT. MAINTENANCE IS UP TO DATE, GAS HAS NO WATER, IT JUST DOES THIS EVERY SINGLE DAY. SO I HAVE TO DRIVE MY JEEP A CERTAIN WAY IN ORDER TO TRY TO AVOID THIS BEATING ON THE TRANSMISSION. THERE HAS BEEN MANY OCCASIONS UPWARDS OF 13 OR 14 TIMES WHERE MY VEHICLE WILL NOT START. MY BATTERY HAS A FULL CHARGE, I HAVE FUEL IN THE TANK IT JUST WONT START. EVERY TIME I CONTACT THE DEALER OR ASK ON JEEP OWNER WEBSITE, I GET " SORRY SIR THE ONLY RECALL LISTED IS THE IGNITION SWITCH AND WE DON'T HAVE A PART FOR THAT." I CHECKED THE WEBSITE AND APPARENTLY MY JEEP HAD BEEN SERVICED FOR THE TRANSMISSION BACK IN 2010 AT 70K MILES BUT DOES NOT EXPLAIN WHAT THEY DID. I ALSO NEED TO PUT IN ANOTHER COMPLAINT ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION. JUNE OF 2014 AND STILL TO THIS DAY THE GEAR SHIFT CAN BE MOVED FROM "P" TO ANY GEAR, AND THAT IS WHEN NO KEYS ARE IN THE IGNITION. I WAS WORKING UNDER THE HOOD AND MY 4 YEAR OLD SON DID JUST THAT AND ALMOST RAN ME OVER. I JUST BOUGHT A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED 5.7L HEMI AND AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, I NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HAD SNAPPED OFF SO THAT YOU ARE UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN AND REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V175000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, POWER TRAIN). AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR, THE SERVICE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE MOTOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
