EMERGENCY BRAKE SHOES (REAR) DELAMINATED FROM CALIPER AND JAMMED UP IN THE BRAKE DRUM PREVENTING THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING. I WENT TO CHANGE THE OIL AND NOTICED ONLY 2 QUARTS WERE DRAINED FROM THE ENGINE INSTEAD OF 5. I USE MOBILE1 FULLY SYNTHETIC MOTOR OIL AND SINCE THEN IM AVERAGING LOSING A QUART OF OIL A MONTH. THE OIL LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON, WHEN IT GETS LOW, I JUST NOTICED THE ENGINE WAS KNOCKING. I SEARCHED FOR ANSWERS ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS HAPPENS ON ALL 3.7 LT ENGINES AROUND 75,000 MILES CHRYSLER MAKES. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PLASTIC INTERIOR DOORS HANDLES WERE CRACKED. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AND BOTH REAR DOORS EXHIBITED THE FAILURE AND COULD NOT BE ENGAGED. THE CONTACT AND PASSENGER'S WOULD HAVE TO OPEN THE WINDOW AND ENGAGE THE REAR DOOR HANDLES IN ORDER TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THERE WERE SHARDS OF THE DOOR HANDLE BREAKING OFF AND FALLING INTO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE DOOR HANDLES, THE MOLDING AND THE FRAME OF THE DOOR WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70000.
I WENT TO GET A NEW INSPECTION STICKER & RECEIVED A REJECTION STICKER IT READ "THE OBD FUEL SYSTEM MONITOR WAS DISABLED WHEN AN ASSOCIATED CONFIGURATION REGISTER WAS INADVERTENTLY CLEARED PRIOR TO RELEASE." DATE OF OWNER NOTIFICATION WAS NOVEMBER 18, 2005. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2013 AND I HAVE BEEN HAVING AN EMISSIONS PROBLEM STARTING 4-5 MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED IT. I'M STILL HAVING THE PROBLEM TODAY, AND DEALER REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

ALL FOUR DOOR HANDLES ARE COMING APART AND ONE IS COMPLETELY BROKE. IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY, NOONE WILL BE ABLE TO GET OUT IF THE WINDOWS HAVE BEEN DAMAGED. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF CHEROKEE AND COMMANDER OWNERS FACING THIS SAME SITUATION. THIS IS A SEVERE AND LIFE-THREATENING SAFETY ISSUE AND CHRYSLER JEEP REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR USING CHEAP MATERIAL THAT LITERALLY DISINTEGRATES ON ITS OWN. THEIR PRICE FOR FIXING THIS DEFECT IS $700-$900 PER DOOR AND THEY ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO COVER ANY PORTION OF IT. IF A COMPANY FREELY DECIDES TO USE INFERIOR MATERIALS JUST TO MAKE MORE PROFIT, THIS CREATES SAFETY ISSUES, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN AND INFANTS, THEN THEY MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS REPAIRS AT NO COST TO THE OWNER. *TR

I'VE TALKED TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS AND THEY SAID THAT THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX THE RECALL ITEM P41/ NHTSA 14V-438 AND I'M LIABLE FOR THE AIRBAG ISSUE. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ONLINE ALL OF THESE ISSUES ARE CONNECTED. I RECEIVED A LETTER ON THE RECALL A FEW MONTHS BACK BUT HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING BACK ON WHEN I CAN GET IT FIXED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPROGRAMMED THE FINAL DRIVE CONTROLLER MODULE AND PERFORMED THE RECALL REPAIR; HOWEVER, THE REMEDY LASTED TWO WEEKS. THE SERVICE ALL WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT FAILURE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SURGE THAT DID NOT ALLOW THE GEAR SHIFT TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER SOFTWARE FOR THE SHIFTING MECHANISM. THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY EIGHT TIMES SINCE THE SOFTWARE WAS REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING TOWED ON A MOBILE HOME; HOWEVER, THE GEAR SHIFT WOULD GET STUCK IN LOW SHIFT AND FAILED TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. CANNOT SHIFT INTO 4-LOW OR SHIFT TRANSFER CASE INTO NEUTRAL FOR TOWING BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE. NO SATISFACTION FROM CHRYSLER TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE DONE BY THE RECALL. PLASTIC DOOR HANDLE CASING IS COMPLETELY BROKEN ON LEFT REAR PASSENGER DOOR INTERIOR, CAUSING DOOR HANDLE TO HANG AND BE UNSAFE TO USE. I RECEIVED A RECALL FOR MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE . THIS INVOLVES THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE IGNITION SWITCH IS DEFECTIVE AND COULD CATCH ON FIRE. I TOOK IT TO OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP AFTER SMELLING BURNT RUBBER AND THEY FOUND MY IGNITION HAD INDEED MELTED. MY VEHICLE AND OTHERS COULD CATCH FIRE AT ANYTIME, IS THERE NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN DO? HAS NOT SENT PARTS TO DEALERSHIP FOR IT I HAD A CHOICE AND REPLACING THIS WITH ANOTHER POSSIBLE DEFECTIVE SWITCH BUT THAT WAS TO COME OUT OF MY POCKET(500.00)! THE RECALL IS OVER A YEAR OLD AND STILL NO REPLACEMENTS PARTS HAVE BEEN EVEN DESIGNED. ISN'T THERE A TIME LIMIT ON THIS? WE BOUGHT A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND USE THIS VEHICLE TO TOW BEHIND OUR MOTOR HOME FROM THAT TIME UNTIL THE PRESENT. THIS REQUIRES THAT THE TRANSFER CASE BE SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL BEFORE TOWING. WE HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THIS SHIFTING PROCEDURE FOR ALL OF THE YEARS THAT WE HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE (MILEAGE 67000) UNTIL WE HAD A SAFETY RECALL FROM CHRYSLER (N23/NHTSA 13V-175 REPROGRAM FINAL DRIVE CONTROLLER MODULE) PREFORMED ON AUGUST 23, 2013 BY OUR DEALER, THE FIRST TIME WE ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2013. THE NEUTRAL SHIFT PROCEDURE WOULD NOT WORK SINCE THIS HAPPEN RIGHT AFTER THE RECALL SERVICE WORK, THE SERVICE MANAGER DECIDED TO RESET AND REPROGRAMMED THE FDCM AND IT WORKED. NO REPAIR PARTS NECESSARY. THE SHIFTER WORKED NORMALLY FOR THREE MORE TIMES. ON NOVEMBER 5, 2013 WHILE ON A TRIP THE SAME SHIFTING FAILURE OCCURRED. TH THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSFER CASE SHIFT MOTOR. I DON'T KNOW IF THEY REPROGRAMMED OR RESET THE FDCM. TOTAL EXPENSE TO US WAS $790.00 FOR THE REPAIR. IT WORKED TWO MORE TIMES. ON NOVEMBER 18, 2013 THE SHIFTER ONCE AGAIN FAILED. THE ERROR CODE ONCE AGAIN INDICATED THAT THE SHIFT MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THE SAME ONE THAT WAS REPLACED. SINCE THAT PART HAD JUST BEEN REPLACED THE DEALER DID ANOTHER COMPUTER REPROGRAM AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. THE CHARGE FOR THIS PROCEDURE WAS $ 47.40. I HAVE CALLED THE CHRYSLER GROUP RECALL ASSISTANCE CENTER, EVERY TIME THE SHIFTER FAILED AND EVERY TIME THEY STATE THAT IT COULDN'T BE AN ISSUE WITH THE RECALL SINCE IT WAS ONLY A SOFTWARE CHANGE TO CORRECT A NEURAL SHIFTING PROBLEM. HOW COULD THAT CAUSE A PROBLEM SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL? I BELIEVE CHRYSLER OWES ALL OWNERS WITH THIS RECALL PROBLEM A REAL FIX AND REIMBURSEMENT FOR ALL EXPENSES DUE TO THIS FAULTY RECALL. *TR

IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT FUNCTION IN THE NEUTRAL GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THREE DIFFERENT DEALERS WHERE THE ACTUATOR WAS REPLACED AND REPROGRAMMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,402.
ALL 4 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ON THE VEHICLE HAVE BROKEN OFF. WHICH DOESN'T ALLOW EGRESS OF THE VEHICLE UNLESS A WINDOW IS LOWERED AND DOOR IS OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE. IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH, FIRE, FLOOD, POWER FAILURE, ETC... THE OCCUPANTS WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. *TR

CARRIED MY JEEP 4WD IN FOR N23 RECALL. I USE LOW LOCK ALL THE TIME ON THE FARM. NEVER HAD ANY PRIOR PROBLEMS. WAS'NT GOING TO EVEN DO THE RECALL BUT GOT TO THINKING IF PROBLEM DID OCCUR VEHICLE COULD ROLL ON ME WHILE I WAS ALONE. HAD RECALL DONE. THAT SATURDAY TRIED LOW LOCK AND GOT "SERVICE TRANSFER CASE" ON INSTRUMENT PANEL. COULD NOT SELECT LOW. TRIED MANY TIMES WITH NO SUCCESS. CARRIED BACK TO DEALER. SAID THEY HAD A FEW OTHER VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. THEY CALLED LATER SAYING IT NEEDED A SELECTOR WHICH WAS ON BACK ORDER. NOW ITS APRIL 2014 AND I'M STILL WAITING FOR MY JEEP TO BE FIXED. WAS ON THE FARM THE OTHER DAY WHILE IT WAS RAINING. COULD NOT SELECT LOW STILL. JEEP IS A FULL TIME 4WD SO IT PULLED OK, BUT IF IT WERE A LITTLE WORSE AND NEEDED LOW I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN STUCK. WHEN WILL JEEP OWN UP AND FIX IT? ANOTHER REASON U.S. CAR COMPANIES IN TROUBLE. OWN UP TO PROBLEMS AND GET SOME OWNER LOYALTY AND THEY COULD MAKE EVEN MORE MONEY. NO ONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING ANYMORE. I ORDERED THIS JEEP NEW FOR ITS 4WD FEATURES, AND 545RFE TRANSMISSION. DRIVER'S SIDE REAR INSIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN DOOR FROM THE INSIDE (MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE). UPON INSPECTION, I FOUND THAT THE PLASTIC SURROUNDING THE HANDLES ON BOTH PASSENGER-SIDE DOORS ARE ALSO CRACKED IN THE SAME SPOT, THEY WILL SOON FAIL. CALLED DEALERSHIP (FARRISH, IN FAIRFAX VA), THEY SAID JEEP WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME AS OUT OF WARRANTY, AND ENTIRE DOOR PANELS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT $780 EACH (NOTE: NOT THE DEALERSHIP'S FAULT). GIVEN THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS AND OTHER WEBSITES, IT IS CLEAR JEEP IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND HAS DECIDED TO TO ADDRESS IT, DESPITE THE OBVIOUS SAFETY IMPLICATIONS. FURTHERMORE, THEY HAVE REFUSED TO OFFER THE HANDLE AS A SEPARATE PART - REPLACING A DOOR PANEL WITH ANOTHER ONE WITH A SIMILARLY DEFECTIVE PART IS NOT ECONOMICALLY FEASIBLE, AND DOESN'T SEEM LIKE A REAL SOLUTION AS THE NEW PART IS JUST AS LIKELY TO FAIL AS THE OLD ONE. A RECALL SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED. THE PROBLEM IS SO WIDESPREAD THAT THERE IS NOW AN AFTERMARKET SOLUTION (DOOR HANDLE REPLACEMENT KITS) DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM, BUT YOU CAN'T GET THEM INSTALLED BY THE DEALERSHIP. *TT

AS I PULLED INTO MY APARTMENT COMPLEX AROUND 5:30AM ON 8/08/2013, I NOTICED A LOUD "THUD" SOUND AND MY JEEP BECAME STALLED IN THE DRIVEWAY. I PRESSED GENTLY ON THE GAS PEDAL TO MOVE MY VEHICLE OUT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC, BUT THE JEEP WOULDN'T MOVE AND THEN FINALLY JOLTED INTO DRIVE WITHOUT ME PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A PARKING SPOT. THE SERVICE 4-WHEEL DRIVE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH BEFORE I SHUT THE IGNITION OFF. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED APPROPRIATELY AND EFFICIENTLY OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS SINCE I PURCHASED IT. I CALLED SHORE TIRE ON 8/9/2013 TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR A MECHANIC TO LOOK AT MY VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE JEEP AT 10MPH A MILE DOWN THE ROAD ON 8/12/2013 TO THE SERVICE SHOP. I WAS INFORMED THE PARKING BRAKE AD DISLODGED ITSELF FROM THE SHAFT, DISMANTLING THE REAR BACKING PLATE SYSTEM, LEFT REAR ABS SENSOR, LEFT REAR AXLE/HUB AND DAMAGED THE REAR ROTORS. I HAD TO PAY $1,320.30 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. *TR
CHRYSLER SENT OUT A LETTER FOR THE N23 RECALL. I HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED AND NOW HAVE NO 4WD LOW AS WELL AS MANY OTHERS. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP HAS TRIED REPLACING MY ACTUATOR TWICE KNOWING THAT THE RECALL HAD MESSED IT UP. SOMEONE NEEDS TO STAND UP AT CHRYSLER AND FIGURE THIS OUT. THERE ARE MANY OF US WITH THIS PROBLEM. MOST MIGHT NOT EVEN KNOW BC THEY PROBABLY DO NOT USE THEIR 4WD LOW. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND I ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS OPERATING PROPERLY 3 MINUTES PRIOR TO ATTEMPTED STARTS. THE FIRST ATTEMPT, THE ENGINE FIRED UP AND REVVED UP BUT IMMEDIATELY DIED. SUBSEQUENT ATTEMPTS WERE SIMILAR. AFTER ABOUT 4 OR 5 ATTEMPTS, THERE WAS A LARGE RATTLING NOISE AND THE ENGINE BECAME IMPOSSIBLE TO START. AFTER TOWING THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND HAVING THEM OPEN UP THE ENGINE, WE FOUND THAT THE VALVE SEAT HAD DROPPED OUT FROM THE CYLINDER HEADS AND MUST HAVE CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OPERATE INCORRECTLY. THE VALVE SEAT HAD SHATTERED INTO MANY TINY PIECES, WHICH MOST LIKELY CAUSED THE RATTLING NOISE. UPON INVESTIGATION I HAVE FOUND THAT THE VALVE SEAT DROPPING OUT IS A COMMON ISSUE ON THE 5.7L HEMI ENGINE IN MY JEEP AS WELL AS OTHER VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BY DODGE AND CHRYSLER. THIS IS UNSAFE AND SHOULD REQUIRE THE IMMEDIATE ACTION OF CHRYSLER TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND PERMANENTLY FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THEIR VALVE SEATS. *TT
THE DOOR HANDLE WAS MADE WITH CHEAP PLASTIC AND CAME COMPLETELY OFF ON ONE DOOR. I HAVE 3 KIDS, THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT. ALL 4 DOOR HANDLES HAVE A CRACK IN THE HANDLE READY TO BREAK OFF AT ANY MOMENT THAT IS VISIBLE TO ANYONE WHO LOOKS AT THE DOOR. *TR

THE PLASTIC INTERIOR DOOR PANELS ARE BREAKING AT THE DOOR HANDLES. WHEN THE CRACKS PROCEED FAR ENOUGH THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES BREAK OFF TRAPPING OCCUPANTS INSIDE. ALL FOUR DOORS ARE BROKEN, THE DRIVER'S DOOR LEAST OF ALL. IT IS NOT A WEAR AND TEAR ISSUE BUT A REAL SAFETY CONCERN. *TR

I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON A HIGHWAY AND PROCEEDED TO CHANGE LANES INTO THE LEFT LANE, IMMEDIATELY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND COULD NOT GET IT UNDER CONTROL. I ENDED UP IN CRASHING INTO THE SAFETY CABLES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. IT REALLY DID SOME DAMAGE. I MANAGED TO NOT HIS OTHER VEHICLES DURING THIS SCARY INCIDENT.
