TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 ( ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT UNLESS THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WAS LIT. ALL OR SOME OF THE DASH LIGHTS FLASH SPORADICALLY. THE RESULTS HAVE BEEN TWO DESTROYED TRANSMISSIONS. NEITHER CHRYSLER DEALERS NOR CHRYSLER HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SUGGEST A SOLUTION. *TR
MY COMPLAINT IS CONCERNING THE INTERIOR DOOR PANELS AND HANDLES FOR MY VEHICLE. ALL FOUR DOORS HAVE CRACKS IN THE CASING THAT LEAD TO THE HANDLE. ONE OF THE LEVERS HAS ACTUALLY BROKEN OFF(THE PASSENGER SEAT SIDE BEHIND THE DRIVER/LEFT SIDE OF VEHICLE). I BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF LANDMARK DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR, AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE ENTIRE PANEL WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THEY QUOTED TO ME A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $600 FOR EACH DOOR, MEANING IT WOULD COST ME ABOUT $2,400 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THIS CAN NOT BE A FLUKE THAT ALL 4 DOORS HAVE THE SAME DEFECT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND I AM CONCERNED THAT I, OR ANY PASSENGERS I MAY HAVE, WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF IT. THIS IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. I'M SURE THAT THERE ARE OTHER JEEP OWNERS OUT THERE WHO HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE. PLEASE HELP.
THE DOOR HANDLES OF THE INTERIOR DOORS ARE ALL BREAKING APART. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT AND THE PEOPLE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE NOT BEING ABLE TO ESCAPE. THE MATERIAL IS VERY THIN PLASTIC THAT IS VERY CHEAP AND THE REASON NOT ONE BUT ALL OF THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKEN AND/OR CRACKED ABOUT TO BREAK. *TR
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH A 4.7 V8. THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS (QTY 2) ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SHEARED RESULTING IN EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAK (POSSIBLY DUE TO HEAT OR UNDER ENGINEERING RUST WAS NOT A FACTOR). I HAVE MADE CHRYSLER AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AS MANY PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE WITH THE 4.7 V8 FOUND NOT ONLY IN THE GRAND CHEROKEE BUT THE COMMANDER, AND DODGE DURANGO AS WELL. A LEAKING EXHAUST MANIFOLD CAN CAUSE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRES. THIS ISSUE CAN ALSO RESULT IN TOXIC FUME INHALATION THROUGH CABIN AIR INTAKE PORTS. THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED $1300 TO REPLACE (8) BOLTS THAT SHOULD NEVER FAIL. WHEN I CALLED CHRYSLER, THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED IN MY SAFETY, AND EXCUSED THE ISSUE BY STATING THAT "CARS ARE JUST NOT MADE LIKE THEY USED TO BE". I FIND THIS RIDICULOUS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS ISSUE CAN RESULT IN DEATH, OXYGEN DEPRIVATION, AS WELL AS SERVER BURN IN THE EVENT OF FIRE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE HESITATED TO START AND THE IGNITION MADE A CLICKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE STARTER AND THE IGNITION SWITCH WERE REPLACED; HOWEVER THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 121,200.
MY DOOR HANDLES ON 4 OF MY DOORS (NOT ONE OR TWO BUT FOUR) ON THE INSIDE HAVE CRACKED, SOME CRACKED WHERE ONE IS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE WHICH NOW MAKES THIS A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS PROBLEM BECAUSE THE PLASTIC IN THE DOORS ARE SO BRITTLE THAT ANY FORCE CAN CAUSE THE HANDLE TO BREAK. I HAVE APPROACHED JEEP ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THEY DO NOT EVEN LISTEN TO MY COMPLAINT AND SAID I JUST HAD TO BUY A NEW REPLACEMENT DOOR PANEL. A DOOR PANEL TO REPLACE A FAULTY DOOR HANDLE IS QUITE UNACCEPTABLE AND NOT A LOGICAL EXCUSE FOR THEIR BAD AND VERY CHEAP PRODUCT. YOU PAY GOOD MONEY TO STAY WITH AN AMERICAN VEHICLE BUT WITH EXCUSES LIKE THIS MAKE ME WANT TO BUY FOREIGN.SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE AS I HAVE RESEARCHED THE ISSUE TO FIND MANY PEOPLE IN MY SAME SITUATION... *TR

I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL IN 2014 AS OF THIS DATE NO HAS CONTACTED ME. THE PART WAS BACK ORDERED ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. PLEASE ADVISE I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER/CHRYSLER
IGNITION RECALL P41 ISSUED OVER TWO YEARS AGO. STILL NO PARTS AVAILABLE FOR REPAIR. DEALERS CLAIM CHRYSLER HAS NOT SUPPLIED THEM WITH REPLACEMENT PART.

THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN I.D. 13V175000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , POWER TRAIN) BUT DID NOT CALL THE MANUFACTURER OR TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
INTERMITTENTLY, ALL LIGHTS FLICKER OFF AND ON. AFFECTED LIGHTS INCLUDED EXTERNAL LIGHTS INCLUDING HEADLAMP, FRONT & REAR MARKER LIGHTS, LIC PLATE ILLUM; PLUS THE INTERNAL LIGHTING THAT INCLUDED GUAGES, DASHBOARD PANEL LIGHTING, ETC. FLICKERING HEADLIGHTS WERE SERIOUS DISTRACTION TO MOTORISTS AHEAD OF ME AND APPROACHING, CAUSING ONE OTHER VEHICLE TO GO OFF THE ROAD. THIS JEEP ONLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 40K MILES. AFTER RESEARCHING SIMILAR INCIDENTS ONLINE, OWNER ORDERED AND REPLACED THE TURN SIGNAL MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH ASSEMBLY (MF SWITCH), WHICH COST $89.99 FROM ADVANCED AUTO PARTS. AFTER REPLACEMENT OF THE MF SWITCH, AND REASSEMBLY OF THE STEERING COLUMN COVER OVER THE MF SWITCH, THEN RECONNECTING THE BATTERY AND A TEST DRIVE, THE PROBLEM APPEARED TO BE CORRECTED. AFTER OVER A MONTH OF DRIVING SUBSEQUENT TO REPAIR, THE PROBLEM HAS NOT RECURRED. CHRYSLER-JEEP OUGHT TO BE ALERTING CUSTOMERS OF THIS COMMON PROBLEM AND REPLACING THESE DEFECTIIVE MF SWITCHES TO PREVENT INCIDENTS. SINCE THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS, THE MANUFACTURER COULD BE CULPABLE AND LIABLE. OWNERS CAN DO THIS REPAIR THEMSELVES, BUT YOU NEED TO GET THE RIGHT PART FOR YOUR OPTIONS, AS WELL AS A COUPLE OF SPECIAL SCREWDRIVERS THAT HAVE THE STAR TYPE HEADS. *TR

WE HAVE PURCHASED A USED 2005 JEEP WITH 2 BROKEN DOOR HANDLES. SEARCHING THE INTERNET SHOWS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE JEEPS. THIS IS TRULY A SAFETY HAZARD SEEING AS NO ONE COULD ESCAPE THIS VEHICLE SHOULD THERE BE AN ACCIDENT. ENGINE STALLS WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THIS STALLING AT A STOP ONLY HAPPENS A FEW MINUTES INTO DRIVING AND DISAPPEARS AFTER ABOUT 1/2 HR OF DRIVING. THE STALL CAN BE PREVENTED BY PUSHING THE (AUTOMATIC) TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL. (I.E. THIS LOOKS TO BE A TRANSMISSION CONTROL PROBLEM, NOT AN ENGINE IDLE PROBLEM). JEEP DEALER HAD CAR FOR TWO DAYS AND WAS ABLE TO REPRODUCE STALL BUT COULD NOT FIND CAUSE AND FIX THE PROBLEM. THERE IS NO CHECK-ENGINE LIGHT ON. *TR
WHEN I WENT TO GET OUT OF MY JEEP THIS MORNING I OPENED THE DOOR AS I NORMALLY DO. I THEN HEARD A CRACK AND NOTICED THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HANDLE PULLED COMPLETELY OUT OF THE DOOR. THE BRITTLE CHEAP PLASTIC PIECE THAT HOLDS THE HANDLE IN THE DOOR JUST DESIGNATED. THE UNFORTUNATE PART IS THAT I CANNOT OPEN MY DOOR NOW THEREFORE IF I AM IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE CAR IS ON FIRE I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT THE CARE WHICH IS VERY SCARY FOR ME. ON JUNE 11, 2013, I PULLED INTO A CONVENIENCE STORE PARKING LOT. I PUT MY (2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE) IN PARK & GOT OUT (THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING). AFTER A MOMENT OR SO, MY JEEP STARTED ROLLING FORWARD. IT ROLLED BETWEEN THE FUELING ISLANDS & IT WAS HEADED TOWARDS THE STREET. MY JEEP HIT A YELLOW POLE & THAT STOPPED IT FROM ROLLING INTO THE STREET. (THE YELLOW POLE IS A SAFETY POLE THAT PROTECTS THE FIRE HYDRANT). I AM 100% CONFIDENT THAT I PUT MY JEEP IN PARK BEFORE I GOT OUT OF IT. I WAS SHOCKED & SCARED WHEN I SAW IT ROLLING DOWN THE LOT. I FILED AN ACCIDENT CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY. THE DAMAGE WAS AROUND $6,000. MY DEDUCTIBLE WAS $500. TODAY, (AUGUST 13, 2013), I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM CHRYSLER. THE REASON FOR THE RECALL IS THE "FINAL DRIVE CONTROLLER MODULE SOFTWARE MAY UNINTENTIONALLY CAUSE THE TRANSFER CASE TO SHIFT INTO THE NEUTRAL POSITION WITHOUT INPUT FROM THE DRIVER. THIS CONDITION COULD ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ROLL AWAY INADVERTENTLY WHILE THE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING." I WAS (AND I STILL AM) 100% CONFIDENT THAT I PUT MY VEHICLE IN PARK BEFORE I GOT OUT OF IT. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS AT THIS POINT? MY INSURANCE COMPANY PAID THE CLAIM & I PAID MY DEDUCTIBLE. NOW, MY INSURANCE RATES WILL GO UP. WHO SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS? HOW DO I PROCEED? *TR

REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLE IS BROKEN. NO IDEA HOW OR WHEN IT HAPPENED. ON JUNE 4, 2013, MY SON TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE AND IT WOULDN'T OPEN. I FIGURED HE JUST HAD A HARD TIME AND I LET HIM OUT FROM THE OUTSIDE. 3 DAYS LATER, I OPENED THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE TO LET MY SON IN AND IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT SOME OF THE PLASTIC MOLDING AROUND THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE WAS BROKEN OFF AND MISSING AND THE DOOR HANDLE WAS HANGING LIMP. I AM CERTAIN THAT THERE WAS NO MISSING PLASTIC 3 DAYS PRIOR WHEN THE DOOR WOULDN'T OPEN FROM THE INSIDE, BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW OR WHEN THE PLASTIC BROKE OFF. I'M GUESSING IT'S DOWN INSIDE THE DOOR PANEL. FRUSTRATING SINCE THOSE REAR DOOR HANDLES ARE RARELY USED. I ALMOST ALWAYS OPEN THE REAR DOORS FROM THE OUTSIDE BECAUSE MY KIDS ARE SMALL AND STILL RIDE STRAPPED INTO CAR SEATS, SO THEY'RE NOT ABLE TO GET OUT THEMSELVES. HAVING READ OTHER COMPLAINTS, THIS MUST BE SOME SORT OF DEFECT. THERE'S NO REASON A DOOR HANDLE THAT IS RARELY USED SHOULD HAVE BROKEN OFF, AND IT'S ESPECIALLY STRANGE THAT IT SEEMS TO HAVE JUST BROKEN APART WHEN NO ONE WAS TOUCHING IT. *TR

THE TRUNK DOOR FOR THIS CAR DOES NOT STAY OPEN AND HITS YOUR HEAD OF CAN CLOSE ON YOUR HAND IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PARTS THAT HOLD THE DOOR OPEN NEED TO BE CHANGED (THEY LOOK LIKE HYDRAULIC ARMS).
