THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKEN. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR IS BARELY HANGING ON, IT'S GETTING MORE AND MORE DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE DOOR TO GET OUT. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLE IS STARTING TO CRACK, I HAVE PUT A LITTLE EPOXY ON THE HANDLE TO TRY AND MAKE IT LAST LONGER. THE COST TO REPLACE THE HANDLES ARE RIDICULOUS! THESE DOORS ARE A DEATH TRAP!!!!! *TR
2005 JEEP HAS BEEN SLIPPING INTO NEUTRAL SINCE FEBRUARY 2013. IT CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE I COULDN'T GET OUT OF THE WAY OF REAR-ONCOMING TRAFFIC. NO MAJOR DAMAGE WAS DONE THANKFULLY! A FEW WEEKS LATER I EXPERIENCED A ROLLAWAY. I WENT INTO THE SITTER TO PICK UP MY SON. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES OF BEING INSIDE I MY JEEP ROLL ACROSS THE STREET! I GO RUNNING OUTSIDE, OPENED THE DOOR AND PULLED UP THE EMERGENCY BREAK...JUST MISSING AN EMBANKMENT! SINCE THE "NEUTRAL" THING STARTED I HAVE HAD SEVERAL SERVICE LIGHTS COME ON. MY MECHANIC PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND HE SAID ITS ALL ELECTRICAL. ALSO, I'VE HAD ISSUES WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW GOING UP/DOWN SLOWER THAN THE REST OF THE WINDOWS SINCE 3 MONTHS INTO PURCHASE. OTHER ISSUES ARE CRACKED DOOR HANDLES (BOTH FRONT DOORS), REPLACING TAILLIGHT KIT, AC SWITCH-A FEW TIMES AS IT WOULD ONLY WORK ON HIGH. *TR
WAS DRIVING AND ALL A SUDDEN CHECK ELECT BRAKING SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ABS STARTED TO PULSE ONLY ON ONE SIDE WITHOUT EVEN TOUCHING THE BRAKE PEDAL. ALMOST WRECKED. THIS WILL BE THE LEGACY FOR JEEP WITH THIS PROBLEM GOING ON ALL OVER THE INTERNET. WILL BE MY LAST JEEP . TO BAD TO CAUSE I AM READY TO PURCHASE A NEW VEHICLE. THEY KNOW ALL ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT CHOOSE TO LET THE OWNER AND FAMILY GET KILLED FIRST. AND FROM WHAT HAPPENED TO ME I COULD HAPPEN VERY EASILY. *TR
PASSENGER OPENED UP THEIR DOOR TO EXIT THE VEHICLE, AND A HOLE CRACKED IN THE DOOR PANEL NEXT TO THE DOOR HANDLE. THERE WAS NO ABUSE TO THE DOOR, JUST A WEAK SPOT AND DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURING OF THE DOOR PANEL. JEEP DOES NOT SELL JUST THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE PIECE, THEY MAKE YOU REPLACE THE WHOLE DOOR PANEL WHICH IS QUITE EXPENSIVE! THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME THING HAPPENING TO OTHER JEEP OWNERS WITH VEHICLES OF THE SAME YEAR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IF YOU CANNOT OPEN A DOOR IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT OR EMERGENCY! *TR
I WAS SITTING AT A RED LIGHT AND A FLORIDA STATE TROOPER WAS BEHIND ME, ALSO STOPPED. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME STARTED TO MOVE FORWARD SO I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE TO EASE FORWARD, AWAITING TO HIT THE GAS WHEN THE TROOPER HIT HIS GAS, SLAMMING INTO THE BACK OF MY JEEP SO HARD THAT IT LIFTED THE BACK OF MY JEEP UP AND FORCED THE FRONT END TO HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AT THE BOTTOM OF HIS REAR BUMPER - PUSHING ME FORWARD INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME APPROXIMATELY 7 FEET. MY JEEP STALLED DURING THE HIT BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
EXACT SAME SCENARIO.... TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD, STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE WITH THE ESP MODE DISABLED LIT UP ON THE DASH. CAR WAS IDLING AT JUST UNDER 2K RPM AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. CAR NORMALLY IDLES AT JUST UNDER 1K RPM. WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE CAR WANTED TO DRIVE FORWARD, LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND LET OFF THE BRAKE, I WAS DOING 20MPH WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS. I PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE CAR OFF, RESTARTED AND RAN FINE FOR A DAY. NEXT DAY I BROKE DOWN 5 TIMES COMING HOME FROM WORK. CAR WOULD RUN FINE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I WOULD FEEL A POWER SURGE IN ACCELERATION AND I KNEW IT WAS COMING, NEXT STOP LIGHT CAR WOULD START TO IDLE FUNNY AND LIGHT TURNS GREEN, NO POWER. NO MATTER HOW HARD I SMASHED THE GAS PEDAL, RPMS WOULD NOT MOVE FROM JUST UNDER 2K. I SHUT THE CAR OFF, RESTARTED AND TOOK OFF LIKE NORMAL. IM GOING TO THE DEALER TOMORROW TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT AND IM TAKING STATEMENTS FROM THIS PAGE TO SHOW THE DEALER THAT THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND CANNOT FIX IT.. I AM POSITIVE JEEP KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEMS AND WILL NOT ADMIT TO IT. HEY IF WE HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE CAN ANY SAY "CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT"???? OH YEAH REMEMBER I SAID I HAVE VIDEO OF THIS??? BECAUSE EVERYONE SAID DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR FIGURE IT OUT? I ALSO HAVE A 15,000$ PAPER WEIGHT IN MY DRIVEWAY THAT'S WORTH NO MORE THAN 400$ AT THE LOCAL SCRAP YARD. I'VE HAD TO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS JEEP AND THIS IS THE LAST STRAW. JEEPS ARE JUNK, AND REMEMBER "ITS A JEEP THING", YOU WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND. I OPENED THE DOOR TO GET OUT AND THE INTERIOR DRIVER'S SIDE HANDLE BROKE OFF OF THE DOOR PANEL. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THE HANDLE IS PART OF THE DOOR PANEL. THE HANDLE'S HINGE IS SET IN PLASTIC WHICH HAPPENS TO BE IN THE SAME ONE PIECE DOOR PANEL. THE DOOR PANEL HAS TO BE REPLACED ($795 FOR THE PART AND $259 FOR THE INSTALLATION). ON LINE I NOTICED THAT THERE WERE MANY COMPLAINTS WITH THIS PROBLEM. IT IS POSSIBLE TO GET LOCKED IN THE CAR. *TR
JEEP WILL NOT CRANK. LIGHTS COME ON AND STEREO WORKS BUT ONLY CLICKS WHEN THE KEY IS TURNED. JUMPER CABLES DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
ALL FOUR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE FALLING APART. ONE DOOR HANDLE IS COMPLETELY INOPERABLE AND AS SUCH THE PASSENGER IS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. THIS PRESENTS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. THE DRIVER'S DOOR HANDLE IS BARELY HANGING ON AND I FEAR THAT SOON I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN MY DOOR FROM THE INSIDE ANYMORE. CHRYSLER HAS YET TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS VERY DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. PLEASE PRESSURE CHRYSLER TO ISSUE A RECALL TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. THE COST TO REPLACE THE DOOR PANELS FOR ALL FOUR DOORS IS OVER $2,000. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, ALL THE EXTERIOR, INTERIOR, AND INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND RECOMMENDED THAT THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC AGAIN AND THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC A THIRD TIME AND THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPAIRED AGAIN. THE FAILURE RECURRED A MONTH AFTER THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN. ON SOME OCCASIONS ALL THE DORMANT INDICATORS SIMPLY LIGHT UP (TIRE INFLATION, CHECK ENGINE, SEAT BELT ECT) AT OTHER TIMES WE LOSE TOTAL ELECTRICAL ON THE INTERIOR AND DASH. WE LOSE FUEL GAUGE, HEATER FAN, DASH LIGHTS, RADIO ECT. THEN IT COMES BACK TO LIFE. EVEN THE BEST MECHANICS CANNOT FIND A GHOST. JEEP HAS A PROBLEM AND THEY BETTER ACKNOWLEDGE IT FAST OR SOMEONE WILL DIE. I HAVE SEEN THE SAME PROBLEM DESCRIBED BY MANY, MANY OWNERS. THEY CANT ALL BE CRAZY. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM OF THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY FAILED PLACING THE VEHICLE INTO LIMP MODE AS INDICATED BY THE FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS AND THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY READING "ESP DISABLED". THE VEHICLE REDUCED SPEED DRASTICALLY WITHOUT DRIVER INPUT TO DO SO. WERE IT NOT FOR THE AWARENESS AND CAPABILITY OF THE DRIVER FOLLOWING THE VEHICLE, THIS DRASTIC REDUCTION IN SPEED WOULD HAVE CAUSED A VEHICULAR COLLISION ON AN INCREDIBLY BUSY MAIN THOROUGHFARE. THE AFFECTED VEHICLE SUFFERED A COMPLETE LOSS OF THROTTLE CONTROL AND THE ENGINE STAYED AT APPROXIMATELY 2000 RPM'S REGARDLESS OF DRIVER INPUT TO THE THROTTLE PEDAL. MAXIMUM SPEED DROPPED TO NO MORE THAN 15 MPH. STOPPING THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY AT TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES WAS DIFFICULT DUE TO THE CONSTANT HIGH RPM THE ENGINE WAS MAINTAINING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF THE NEAREST JEEP/CHRYSTLER/DODGE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS TROUBLESHOT. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED CONSEQUENT OF THE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK RAN ON THE VEHICLE. THE NEXT 30 MILES DRIVEN IN VEHICLE WERE UNEVENTFUL. THE NEXT DAY THE EXACT SAME MALFUNTION OCCURED AGAIN, ALBEIT ON A NOT SO BUSY ROAD (THANKFULLY). CONVERSATIONS WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REVEAL NO CONFIDENCE INSPIRING TROUBLE SHOOTING AND/OR REPAIR PROCEDURE FOR WHAT IS APPARENTLY A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR MANY PRODUCTS ACROSS THE CORPORATE LINE, SPANNING MANY MODEL YEAS AND GENERATIONS. BASICALLY, IT WAS STATED THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT ARE UNSURE OF WHAT CAUSES IT OR HOW TO REMEDY THE MALFUNCTION. THE VEHICLE IS NOW PARKED USELESS IN OWNERS DRIVEWAY UNTIL A SOLUTION IS FOUND AND THE VEHICLE CAN BE SAFELY DRIVEN AGAIN. *TR
THE CHILD SAFETY LOCK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR KEEPS MOVING TO UNLOCKED, MAKING THIS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE A CHILD COULD OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION. *TR
CRACKS IN INTERIOR DOOR PLASTIC LEAVING DOOR HANDLES DIFFICULT TO MANAGE. SAME PROBLEM AS SO MANY OTHERS HAVE REPORTED. CALLED JEEP DIRECTLY AND NO SOLUTION OFFERED. DEALERSHIP IS NOT WILLING TO FIX THE BROKEN PART UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
2005 JEEP CHEROKEE LIMITED. THERE HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR YEARS REGARDING THE PLASTIC DOOR PANELS INTERIOR OF THE CAR. WITH ALL 4 DOORS CRACKED AND 1 ( DRIVERS DOOR) WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. THIS IS A LIFE SAFETY TO ALL OCCUPANTS IN THIS CAR. WITH A CRASH OR FIRE TO HAPPEN AND YOU CANT GET OUT OF A DOOR DUE TO POOR DESIGN OF THE DOOR BY THE MANUFACTURE. THESES DOOR PANELS START OUT WITH SMALL HAIR CRACKS AND ONE TIME OF OPENING THE DOOR YOU HAVE CRACKED ALL THE PLASTIC AND NOT ABLE TO OPEN UP THE DOOR. I FEEL THAT JEEP NEEDS TO STAND UP AND CORRECT THIS ISSUE ON A RECALL. AFTER THIS HAPPENING YOU CAN TAKE IT IN AND THEY WILL PUT THE NEW DESIGN THAT DOESN'T HAVE THIS POOR DESIGN FOR JUST OVER 800 DOLLARS A DOOR. SO WITH THIS MANUFACTURE MAKING A CHANGE TO THE PANEL, SAYS THEY KNEW IT WAS A POOR DESIGN. THIS IS HAPPENING TO MY UNDERSTANDING JEEPS OF 2005- TO AROUND 2010. I HAVE PAID CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE SAME YEAR THAT I OWN AND 90% OF THE TIME YOU SEE THE CRACKS AT THE HANDLES INSIDE. PLEASE LETS FIGURE SOMETHING OUT BEFORE PEOPLE LOSE THERE KIDS LIFE OR THERE OWN LIFE. *TR
BROKEN INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES. PASSENGER BACK HANDLE IS COMPLETELY GONE, DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED FROM INSIDE. DRIVER SIDE FRONT IS ABOUT TO FALL OUT AND THE OTHER 2 ARE CRACKED. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT. IF THE DOORS CANNOT BE OPENED FROM INSIDE, PASSENGERS AND DRIVER CAN BE TRAPPED IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
THIS HAS HAPPENED A LOT. WHILE DRIVING ALL THE INTRUMENT LIGHTS WILL FLASH, CAUSING THE AC/HEATER TO TURN OFF AND ON, HEADLIGHTS TO GO OFF, AND TRACTION CONTROL TO TURN OFF. TWICE RECENTLY THE VEHICLE HAS SHIFTED ITSELF INTO REVERSE WITH THE GEAR SELECTOR STILL IN DRIVE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A SHOP AND THEY WENT THROUGH THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND COULD NOT FIND A SOURCE FOR THIS PROBLEM. ALL JEEP OWNERS I HAVE TALKED WITH (OVER 30) HAVE THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND JEEP NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. *TR
INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE INOPERABLE. CANNOT OPEN DOOR FROM THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. HANDLES CRACK AND BREAK EASILY. THIS CAUSES OPERATOR AND PASSENGERS UNABLE TO EXIT VEHICLE IN A TIMELY FASHION. DOORS MUST BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS STARTED AND THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. IN ADDITION, THE HORN WOULD NOT FUNCTION WHEN ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE AIR BAG CLOCK SPRING WAS FAULTY. THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE 2002 AND 2003 MODEL YEARS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 12V527000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE) BUT NOT THE 2005 MODEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH WITH THE BRAKES ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE UNOCCUPIED AND RUNNING, THE VEHICLE ERRONEOUSLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.
THE VEHICLE WILL NOT IDLE WHEN HITTING THE BRAKES AT A STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC LIGHT OR COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP RESULTING IN A REAR END COLLISION. FROM THE VEHICLE NOT MAINTAINING A NORMAL IDLE POSITION.THIS IS A DANGER TO THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS AND ANYBODY ELSE ON THE ROAD .JEEP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS AND HAVE NOT COME UP WITH A SOLUTION FOR THE CUSTOMERS.I HAVE SEEN THIS SAME THING REPORTED TO THE NHTSA ONRECORD A MILLION TIMES AND WILL SEE THIS ISSUE GETS ADDRESSED IF I HAVE TO CALL A SENATOR THAT IS A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE SOMEBODY IS GOING TO ANSWER FOR THIS! TO READ THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS THAT HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO THE NHTSA AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE IS UNACCEPTABLE AND I CAN ASSURE YOU THE NHTSA BETTER INVESTIGATE THIS IMMEDIATELY. THIS PERTAINS TO JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2005 V8 4.7 LITER MOTOR FOUND IN 57% OF ALL JEEPS THAT WERE BUILT. YOU CAN GO TO YOUTUBE AND SEE THIS IN A VIDEO OF THIS HAPPENING AND ITS ALSO ON THE JEEP FORUMS WEB SITE POSTED A MILLION TIMES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED AS HE PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY WITHIN 2 FEET OF THE GARAGE THERE WAS SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND THE VEHICLE CRASH INTO THE GARAGE. THERE WAS NO INJURIES BUT THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. THE POLICE WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER SENT A LETTER TO THE CONTACT INFORMING HIM THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGES AND IT WAS NOT DUE TO ANY MANUFACTURING DEFECTS AND OFFERED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
MY HUSBAND I WHERE IN A HEAD ON CRASH WITH THIS VEHICLE, SURVIVED WITH SERIOUS INJURIES. SINCE THE ACCIDENT WE HAVE BEEN GETTING DIFFERENT RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE, WHICH IS MAKING US WONDER IF THERE WAS A VEHICLE MAL-FUNCTION THAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS HORRIFIC ACCIDENT. NOT SURE OF THE MILEAGE AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. *TR

THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V396000 (POWER TRAIN). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
THE DOOR HANDLES ON ALL FOUR DOORS BREAK AWAY, AND BECOME UNUSABLE. MAKING A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE IN TRYING TO EXIT THE CAR INVADE OF FIRE OR SOMETHING ELSE TO PUT THE PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE. IN RESEARCH DONE OVER THE INTERNET, IT SEEMS THE ONLY YEAR AFFECTED WAS THE 2005 MODELS IN THE CHEAPER PLASTIC USED IN HOLDING THE DOOR HANDLES
THE AIR BAGS LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON, THE FUEL SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON. WHEN CHECKED BY MECHANIC WAS TOLD SOME SORT OF SENSOR. THE SPEED CONTROL DOES WHAT IT WANTS IT CAN GO FROM 45MPH TO 20MPH AND THE VEHICLE TRIES TO CUT ITSELF OFF I HAVE TO IMMEDIATELY PUT IT IN NEUTRAL TO PREVENT THAT FROM HAPPENING. *TR

ALL INTERIOR DOOR HINGES ARE ATTACHED TO A PLASTIC HOUSING AND THAT HOUSING HAS BEGUN TO CRUMBLE ON ALL FOUR DOORS. THE DOOR HINGES ARE CHEAP PLASTIC AND HAVE AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I HAVE SEARCHED THE WEB REGARDING THIS DEFECT, AND I AM NOT SURPRISED TO SEE THOUSANDS OF FOLKS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS ME. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE, AND MANY MORE POSTING THROUGHOUT THE WEB OF JEEP OWNERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS HAZARD BECAUSE IT WOULD PREVENT ANYONE FROM EXITING THE VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY (SAY A FIRE).
INTERIOR DOOR LATCH ON REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOOR COMPLETELY BROKE OFF AND DRIVERS SIDE FRONT DOOR LATCH BEGINNING TO CRACK AROUND PLASTIC AND INCUR SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE IN CASE OF ACCIDENT OR FIRE ONE WOULD BE TRAPPED INSIDE VEHICLE UNABLE TO EXIT PRESUMABLY DYING FROM INJURIES. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THE JEEP CHEROKEE AND I FEEL CHRYSLER NEEDS TO OWN RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS AND INCUR THE EXPENSE OF ALL REPAIRS.
CAR MADE A WHINING NOISE AT 35-45 M.P.H. BOUGHT NEW TIRES AND ALIGNMENT. IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. IT WAS REBUILT FOR $1200. ONE WEEK LATER IT MADE A HIGHER PITCHED WHINE. A CHRYSLER EMPLOYEE TOLD ME THAT BEGINNING IN 2005, CHRYSLER OUTSOURCED FOR CHEAPER BEARINGS,AND THEY WERE DEFECTIVE. HE SAID THEY ARE NO LONGER MADE. A WHOLE NEW DIFF AND AXLES HAD TO BE INSTALLED FOR ANOTHER $2800. IT STILL WHINES AT ALL SPEEDS NOW. CHRYSLER SAID "LIVE WITH IT!', AND EXPECT IT TO FAIL REPEATEDLY. THE CASE HAD BEEN SET WRONG AT THE FACTORY AS WELL. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF THESE CASES ON-LINE,BUT CHRYSLER REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEM. *TR

THIS OF COURSE MAKES FOR A CONSIDERABLE SAFETY ISSUE IF DRIVER OR PASSENGER NEEDED TO EXIT VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. JEEP WANTS APPROXIMATELY $3000 TO FIX PLASTIC HANDLE SUPPORTS. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ON ALL AFFECTED MODELS. IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. BUT AS USUAL, A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WILL PROBABLY BE REQUIRED TO FIX A SIMPLE $5 PART. THE PLASTIC WELLS BEHIND ALL FOUR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES HAVE BROKEN, LEAVING A GAPING HOLE RINGED BY SHARP SPIKES OF PLASTIC SHARDS. THIS OCCURRED PRIOR TO MY PURCHASING THE VEHICLE ON THE DATE INDICATED AS THE DATE OF THE INCIDENT. THIS IS A WIDELY REPORTED ISSUE. THE NEXT STAGE OF THE FAILURE IS THAT THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES WILL EVENTUALLY BREAK OUT OF THE DOOR AND COME OFF INTO THE DOOR OPERATOR'S HAND, REQUIRING THE DOOR TO BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE. ONCE THIS OCCURS, THE FAILURE WILL BECOME A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY RISK AS PASSENGERS WILL BE UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE, EFFECTIVELY TRAPPING THEM INSIDE IN THE EVENT OF A SEVERE ACCIDENT OR FIRE. JEEP HAS FIELDED THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR FAILURE AND NUMEROUS VIDEOS MADE BY UNHAPPY CONSUMERS HAVE BEEN POSTED TO YOUTUBE AND OTHER SIMILAR SITES. JEEP CURRENTLY CHARGES $500-$700 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DOOR PANELS WHILE A NICHE MARKET HAS BEEN CREATED BY INDIVIDUALS SELLING INJECTION MOLDED REPLACEMENT PARTS THAT JEEP DOES NOT SELL. THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE SOLUTION AND JEEP NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL. IT BECOMES A MINOR SAFETY ISSUE THE MOMENT OUR FINGERS COME INTO CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THE SHARP PLASTIC SHARDS SURROUNDING THE OPENING, AND IT BECOMES A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THE MOMENT WE AND OUR PASSENGERS ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO OPEN A DOOR FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I PUT THE REAR SEAT DOWN TO MOVE STUFF, WENT TO PUT SEAT BACK INTO REGULAR UP RIGHT POSITION AND THE MIDDLE SEAT BELT IS LOCKED AND WONT RELEASE. THE AREA WHERE THE DOOR HANDLES CRACKED AND THE HANDLES ARE HANGING FROM THEM, HAPPENED DURING A PERIOD OF WEEKS, THE DOORS AND HANDLES WERE USED IN THE MANNER THAT THEY INTENDED TO BE USED. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ON LINE AND IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON COMPLAINT FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL SO I THINK THERE MUST BE A RECALL AND THE COMPANY SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIRS.
