TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE SMELLED FUEL WHILE IN THE CABIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
ALL 4 INTERIOR DOOR OPENING HANDLES BREAKING/FAILING: 1 REAR DOOR TOTALLY INOPERABLE. ***THIS IS A DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE IF HANDLES BREAK OR ARE INOPERABLE IN CERTAIN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS, PASSENGERS MAY NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE, CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH!*** MANUFACTURER CHARGE TO REPLACE/REPAIR HANDLES IS PROHIBITIVELY EXPENSIVE: IN MY CASE, THE COST OF EIGHT (8) MONTHLY CAR PAYMENTS! THE INTERIOR DOOR PANELS ARE CONSTRUCTED WITH WEAK PLASTIC CAUSING THE DOOR HANDLES WHICH ARE MOLDED INTO THE PLASTIC DOOR PANELS TO FAIL. FAILURE OF THE DOOR HANDLES TO OPEN THE DOORS FROM THE INTERIOR IS A SAFETY HAZARD IN THE EVENT OF AN INCIDENT (FIRE,ACCIDENT,ETC. ) THAT REQUIRES IMMEDIATE EVACUATION FROM THE VEHICLE. *TR
I NOW HAVE 2 INTERIOR DOOR ON MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT HAVE BROKEN DOOR HANDLES. THE THIRD ONE HAS A SMALL CRACK THAT WILL PROBABLY GROW AND BECOME LIKE THE OTHERS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS OR ON THE HIGHWAY, THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS TURN OFF. THE BRAKE LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, AND HEADLIGHTS DON'T WORK EITHER, BUT I AM STILL ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STILL DRIVES NORMALLY. MY KNEE DOESN'T HIT THE IGNITION SWITCH. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN MANY TIMES. SHUTTING THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTING IT SOMETIMES TURNS THE DASHBOARD/ELECTRICAL SYSTEM BACK ON, BUT THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO DEALERSHIPS AND MECHANICS, BUT THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. *TR
THE REAR RIGHT DOOR HANDLE BROKE. MY TRUCK HAS UNDER 80,000 MILES. *TR
ALL INTERIOR DOOR PANELS BROKEN. I HAVE CONTACTED JEEP/CHRYSLER AND THEY SAY THEY WONT FIX IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL AND CRASHED INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE DRIVER SIDE FRONTAL AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE NECK AND PELVIC AREA. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS RECEIVED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
NOTICED IN 2010 THAT SMALL PIECE OF PLASTIC WAS MISSING BEHIND ONE DOOR HANDLE. THIS IS A LIGHTLY USED ONE PERSON COMMUTER VEHICLE. THEN IN DECEMBER 2011 ALL FOUR DOOR HANDLES BEGAN TO FAIL. EACH HAS MISSING PIECES OF PLASTIC BEHIND EACH HANDLE THAT COMPROMISE THEIR USE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED NEW AND SERVICED SINCE 2006. WAS ADVISED IT WOULD BE $750 PER DOOR TO FIX AS THE DOOR HANDLES ARE INTEGRATED INTO THE PLASTIC DOOR PANEL. COMPLETE FAILURE OF ALL FOUR HANDLES IS IMMINENT. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED FOR OUR SAFETY. A BRIEF SEARCH OF THE INTERNET SHOWS THAT THIS MANUFACTURE DEFECT IS WIDESPREAD IN THIS MAKE AND MODEL. IT IS CLEAR THAT BOTH THE MATERIAL AND DESIGN USED IS DEFECTIVE. REPLACEMENT WITH OM PARTS WILL NOT FIX, AS THE PROBLEMS IS WITH THE DESIGN AND MATERIAL. PLEASE HELP US GET THIS ISSUE FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. IT IS A FORESEEABLE CONSEQUENCE OF THIS MANUFACTURE DEFECT THAT DEATH COULD RESULT. IF A CONSUMER IS INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT, AND THE HANDLES FAIL, THE CONSUMER WOULD BE UNABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR. IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE OR WATER CRASH, THE DEATH OF THE CONSUMER WOULD BE DIRECTLY ATTRIBUTABLE TO MANUFACTURE NEGLIGENCE. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP WHEN IT SURGED FORWARD AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE TRANSMISSION, SLIPPAGE, AND VARIOUS OTHER WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AFTER THE FAILURE. DURING THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SURGE FORWARD. THE CONTACT SUFFERED MAJOR BACK INJURIES AS A RESULT. THERE WERE MAJOR DAMAGES TO THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE RECALL REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT DID NOT EXPERIENCE A FAILURE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE ACTIVATED IN OVERDRIVE AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED HIM THAT HE WAS OVER THE MILEAGE FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V396000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000.
LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES - THE POP DOWN DID NOT SHOW THIS CATEGORY SO I USED OTHER THE DOOR LATCHES WILL NOT WORK DUE TO FAILING INNER PLASTIC HOUSING. ALL FOUR DOORS ARE IN SOME CONDITION OF CRACKING AND FAILURE. ONE LATCH WILL NOT WORK AT ALL, THUS THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE OF VEHICLE. IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE THAT HAVE BEEN FILED. CHRYSLER SHOULD IMMEDIATELY RECALL THE VEHICLES AND PROPERLY REPAIR THEM. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, AN UNKNOWN NOISE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD GASKET, THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS AND THE NUTS AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER BOLT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
WHEN WE PUT THE CAR INTO REVERSE THERE WAS A ROUGH JERK. WE THEN PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE BUT IT WAS STUCK IN 3RD GEAR. THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. THE CAR WON'T DRIVE IN ANYTHING BUT 3RD GEAR NOW AND STILL JERKS EVERYTIME WE SHIFT FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR DRIVE. *TR
WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE JUNE 2014 FOR IGNITION SWITCH. MY VEHICLE DASH BOARD, GAUGES HEAR, AIR, EVERYTHING SHUTS OFF AT LEAST 5 TIMES A WEEK. I AM TOLD FROM SUBCLASS THAT THE PART IS STILL NOT IN. IN DOING RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THE SOME CARS COMPLETING SHUT DOWN. SOME WHILE DRIVING 60 ON A HIGHWAY. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED. I FEEL THAT OVER A YEAR IS LONG ENOUGH. I NEED MY JEEP FIXED AND SAFE TO DRIVE AROUND WITH MY 4 YEAR OLD GRANDSON IN THE BACK SEAT. THANKS, DEB
THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE INTERIOR DOOR PANELS ARE DEFECTIVE . THE HANDLES ARE ALL PLASTIC AND THEY ALL BREAK OFF FROM THE DOOR PANEL. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE PROBLEM THAT COULD COST A LIFE IF THE PERSON REACHES FOR THE HANDLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR AND CANNOT. THEY NEED TO MAKE THIS A RECALL AND ISSUE PARTS TO REPLACE THIS FOR FREE FOR OWNERS OF THE JEEPS. *TR
THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ALL BREAK AND CRACK. THE HANDLES ARE CHEAP PLASTIC AND FAIL AFTER TIME. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND CHRYSLER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THESE. ALL OF THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE POCKETS HAVE FALLEN APART, THE PLASTIC USED WAS BAD AND THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUE. I COULD SEE IF ONE WENT BAD, BUT ALL FOUR, THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN ONLINE, IT SEEMS ALL TYPES OF THIS VEHICLE AND YEAR SEEM TO HAVE THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THE PLASTIC ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE EXHIBITED HAIRLINE CRACKS. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE WAS PARTIALLY DETACHED FROM THE HOUSING WITH HAIRLINE CRACKS WITHIN THE PLASTIC. THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE DOOR HANDLE WAS COMPLETELY FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE THREE DOOR HANDLES WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 149,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN A PASSENGER ATTEMPTED TO EXIT FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, THE DOOR HANDLE DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED ON BOTH DRIVER'S SIDE DOORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED, BUT THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE DOOR PANELS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,800.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE IGNITION; HOWEVER THE ENGINE FAILED TO OPERATE UNTIL AFTER A JUMP START WAS PERFORMED TO THE BATTERY. THE SIMILAR FAILURE OCCURRED ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASSIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE RECURRING PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT A FAILURE CODE COULD NOT BE DETECTED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED WAS UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
THE PLASTIC PANELING NEAR MY DOOR HANDLES HAVE BECOME BRITTLE AND HAVE BROKEN CAUSING MY PASSENGERS TO BECOME STUCK ON THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND UNABLE TO OPERATE THE DOOR HANDLE PROPERLY ON EXITING THE VEHICLE. SOMETIMES THIS VEHICLE ACTS AS THOUGH IT IS STUCK IN ITS LOWEST GEAR. IF I LET THE VEHICLE COOL OFF FOR 3 OR MORE HOURS IT ACTS FINE UPON RESTART. I HAVE FOUND A TRANSMISSION RECALL BUT DON'T KNOW IF IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
HEMI MOTOR STALLED, BACK-FIRED, CAUGHT FIRE IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND LOST CONTROL OF STEERING. VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND LEFT THE ROAD AND FLIPPED ONTO SIX CARS IN PARKING LOT. AT THAT POINT INSIDE OF VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. PASSENGERS WERE A 5 YEAR OLD BOY AND THE DRIVER WAS A 63 YEAR OLD MALE. SEVEN VEHICLES WERE DESTROYED IN THIS ACCIDENT. *TR

I HAVE FOUND ON THE INTERNET THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE BUT I HAVEN'T FOUND OUT WHAT THE COMPANY IS OFFERING FOR A FIX. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURERS DEFECT CONSIDERING THAT ALL THREE OF THEM BROKE WITHIN DAYS OF ONE ANOTHER. *TR

3 OF 4 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES AND PANEL TO WHICH THEY ATTACH APPEAR TO BE BROKEN (CRACKED) AND ONE IS NON FUNCTIONING. AFTER A GOOGLE SEARCH OF "JEEP INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE", I HAVE FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS. REPAIR COSTS EXCEED $2000 DOLLARS FROM THE DEALER. ALTHOUGH THE AESTHETICS OF THIS REMAINS ANNOYING TO OWNERS, THE REAL PROBLEM LIES IN THE FACT THAT DOOR(S) ARE INOPERABLE FROM THE INSIDE AND COULD POTENTIALLY "TRAP" PEOPLE IN ACCIDENTS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE PARKED THE CONTACT OPENED THE REAR LIFTGATE WHEN IT SUDDENLY CLOSED ABRUPTLY AND STRUCK THE CONTACT ON THE HEAD. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HEAD INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE NINE STAPLES WERE PUT INTO HER HEAD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS OR REPAIRS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,727.
MY INTERIOR DRIVER DOOR HANDLE STARTED CRACKING, THEN EVENTUALLY BROKE AND IS USELESS. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN SOMETHING I DID UNTIL THE BACK PASSENGER ON THE DRIVER DOOR DID THE SAME THING. I RARELY HAVE PASSENGERS IN THE BACK SO I KNOW ITS NOT JUST WEAR; INSTEAD, JUST CRAPPY QUALITY. WHEN YOU'RE A DIE-HARD JEEP PERSON YOU DON'T WANT TO ADMIT (ESPECIALLY TO YOURSELF) THEY WOULD'VE USED POOR QUALITY. UNFORTUNATELY, AFTER READING ABOUT EVERYBODY ELSE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO, ITS OBVIOUS IT IS INFACT JUST POOR QUALITY. *TR
ALL 4 DOOR HANDLES OF MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ARE BROKEN. THE 2 REAR HANDLES ARE COMPLETELY BROKEN OFF SO THE DOORS DON'T OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. THE 2 FRONT HANDLES ARE BASICALLY HANGING BY A THREAD. IT'S DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE-IF ANYONE, ESPECIALLY KIDS, WERE IN THE BACKSEAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ESCAPE DURING AN ACCIDENT. WHILE RESEARCHING THE RECENT IGNITION RECALL, I STUMBLED ON MANY, MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME DOOR HANDLE PROBLEM - I THOUGHT OUR CAR WAS JUST A LEMON! THE COST TO FIX ONE DOOR IS $700 AND CERTAINLY NOT IN THE BUDGET SO WE'VE HAD TO LIVE WITH IT! THE POTENTIAL SAFETY RISK OF THIS SHOULD BE OF GREAT CONCERN AND JEEP SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO FIX IT!! ALL 4 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES BROKEN OR CRACKED AND ABOUT TO BREAK OFF COMPLETELY. MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD - UNABLE TO OPEN/OPERATE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE IN CASE OF ACCIDENT OR EMERGENCY. OBVIOUS MANUFACTURER DEFECT USING VERY INFERIOR DESIGN/MATERIALS. RECALL REQUESTED AS HUNDREDS OF JEEP OWNERS ARE REPORTING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. *TR
I OWN A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED V8 5.7L AND 3 OF THE 4 DOOR HANDLES ARE CRACKED. A COUPLE OF THEM HAVE BEEN CRACKED FOR A WHILE, BUT RECENTLY ANOTHER ONE LITERALLY JUST CRACKED OPEN BY JUST OPENING THE REAR DOOR WITH LITTLE FORCE. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS CLAIMS ON THIS ISSUE AT THIS SITE HTTP://WWW.DENLORSTOOLS.COM/AUTOBLOG/2010/11/JEEP-GRAND-CHEROKEE-INTERIOR-DOOR-HANDLE-BROKEN-RECALL/. CLEARLY I AM NOT THE FIRST PERSON WHO HAS HAD THIS ISSUE. MY JEEP IS IN GREAT CONDITION, SO THIS ISN'T AN ABUSE ISSUE. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE CONDITION THE REAR DOORS ARE IN WILL SOON MAKE THEM NON-FUNCTIONAL. THE REPAIR FOR THIS ISSUE IS A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT. *TR
HEADLIGHTS BEGIN FLICKERING WITHOUT ANY WARNING AND THEN GO OUT ENTIRELY. NEXT DAY, HEADLIGHTS WORK AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND IS POTENTIALLY A FATAL PROBLEM SINCE DRIVER IS SUDDENLY DRIVING IN COMPLETE DARKNESS.. MY CAR IS METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AT LOCAL 5 STAR JEEP DEALER. WE BROUGHT THE CAR TO THIS SAME JEEP DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS TO DIAGNOSE (EACH TIME FOR FIVE DAYS AND MECHANIC DROVE CAR OVER 100 MILES HOME AT NIGHT) AND NO PROBLEM CAN BE FOUND. AFTER CONDUCTING A GOOGLE SEARCH, THERE ARE ABOUT 12 SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER OWNERS OF 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES. CHRYSLER'S POSITION AND THE DEALER'S POSITION IS THAT IF THEY CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM, THEY CAN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. THAT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. THEY SHOULD HAVE ISSUED A VOLUNTARY RECALL. NHTSA SHOULD NOW REQUIRE A MANDATORY RECALL OF ALL 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES. AT A MINIMUM, THE LIKELY COMPONENTS, E.G. HEADLIGHT SWITCH, CONTROL UNITS AND/OR WIRING HARNESSES SHOULD PROACTIVELY BE REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FOUR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES WERE FRACTURED AND PASSENGERS WERE UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
I BOUGHT THIS JEEP BRAND NEW AND IT IS GARAGE KEPT. WE ARE OLDER AND HAVE NO YOUNG KIDS RIDING IN OUR CAR. IT STILL LOOKS LIKE ITS BRAND NEW. MY 1998 JEEP WHICH I STILL OWN HAS 86,000 MILES ON IT DOORS ARE PERFECT. MY 2005 HAS THREE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES THAT ARE CRACKED OR COMPLETELY BROKEN. THE BACK DOOR HAS TO BE OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. THIS IS A SAFETY MATTER. IT'S REALLY UNFORTUNATE THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS BUT NO RECALL. WILL IT TAKE SOMEONE GETTING IN A FIREY CRASH OR RUNNING INTO A POND AND NOT BEING ABLE TO GET OUT OF THEIR CAR? *TR

DRIVER HAS TO OPEN WINDOW AND ACCESS THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE TO OPEN THE DOOR. BACK SEAT PASSENGERS ARE UNABLE TO GET OUT WITHOUT EXTERIOR ASSISTANCE. REAR DOOR HANDLE PLASTIC AROUND BASE BEGAN CRACKING & CURRENTLY DRIVER DOOR HAND IS ABOUT TO FALL OFF. THIS IS DANGEROUS! THIS PLASTIC SURROUNDING THE DOOR HANDLES BEGAN WITH SMALL CRACKS THEN HUGE CHUNKS FELL OUT . THIS COULD COST A LIFE OF MY GRANDCHILDREN OR EVEN MYSELF AS DRIVER. NEVERMIND ANYONE OWNING ONE. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2011, I WAS THE SECOND OWNER. THE LEFT REAR PLASTIC BEHIND THE DOOR HANDLE WAS SEVERELY CRACKED, AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE THE DEALER REPLACED THIS ONE AND STATED THAT IT COST $500.00 PER DOOR TO REPLACE. THE TWO OF THE THREE REMAINING DOORS HAD HAIRLINE CRACKS AND WERE BARLEY NOTICEABLE. IN OCTOBER 2011 HAD A PASSENGER IN THE RIGHT REAR SEAT. WHEN THEY TRIED TO GET OUT THEY COULD NOT. I OPENED THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. THOUGHT I HAD THE CHILD PROOF LOCKS ON. THERE WAS A BIG CHUNK OF PLASTIC MISSING BEHIND THE DOOR HANDLE ON THIS SIDE. IT DID NOT OCCUR TO ME THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG UNTIL 04/31/2012 WHEN A LARGE PIECE OF PLASTIC FELL INSIDE THE DOOR FROM BEHIND THE DRIVERS DOOR HANDLE. THEN I STARTED READING ABOUT ALL THE PROBLEMS WITH THESE DOORS ON THE INTERNET. THE DOOR HANDLES WILL FALL OUT, BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING TO HOLD THEM IN PLACE. NOW I HAVE 2 DOORS WITH BIG CHUNKS OF PLASTIC MISSING AND THE THIRD DOOR IS SEVERELY CRACKED. CALLED CHRYSLER, OPENED A CASE. THEY CALLED OFFERED TO FIX THEM FOR $500.00. THEY TOLD ME MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I TOLD THEM THAT I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH WARRANTY, IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE IF YOU COULD NOT GET OUT OF THE CAR. THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO FIX IT. INTERIOR DOOR LATCH ON REAR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR COMPLETELY BROKE OFF AND DRIVERS SIDE FRONT DOOR LATCH BEGINNING TO CRACK AROUND PLASTIC AND INCUR SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE IN CASE OF ACCIDENT OR FIRE ONE WOULD BE TRAPPED INSIDE VEHICLE UNABLE TO EXIT PRESUMABLY DYING FROM INJURIES. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THE JEEP CHEROKEE AND I FEEL CHRYSLER NEEDS TO OWN RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS AND INCUR THE EXPENSE OF ALL REPAIRS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE ENGINE ABRUPTLY QUIT. TACHOMETER READING WENT TO 0 AND VEHICLE STARTED TO SLOW DOWN. NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES AFTER ENGINE QUIT, BUT STILL MANAGED TO MANEUVER TO THE SHOULDER AND STOP THE VEHICLE. TURNED THE IGNITION KEY OFF THEN IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE RAN NORMALLY FOR REST OF THE TRIP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WITHIN 2-3 DAYS, THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT FAILED COMPLETELY. THE CONTACT CONSULTED A LOCAL MECHANIC AND A LOCAL DEALER, WHOM BOTH ADVISED THAT A RED DYE WOULD HAVE TO BE ADDED TO THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO DETERMINE IF THERE WAS A LEAK SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE UNIT. THE ENTIRE PROCESS WOULD TAKE APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS. THE DYE WAS ADDED TO THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUMES WERE OFFENSIVELY STRONG AND TOXIC, ENTERING THROUGH THE VENTS AT ALL TIMES WHETHER THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED OR NOT. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD WOULD HAVE TO BE REMOVED IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE EVAPORATOR COIL. THE REPAIR WOULD TAKE APPROXIMATELY EIGHT HOURS FOR $1,800 AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING ADDING FREON TO THE VEHICLE ADVISED OF A POSSIBLE EXPLOSION, WHICH THE CONTACT BELIEVED WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FREON WAS LEAKING ONTO HIS DRIVEWAY, WHICH THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE IT WAS A TOXIC AND UNSAFE CHEMICAL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 114,000.
