INSIDE DOOR HANDLES START TO BREAK AT THE PLASTIC HOUSING WHERE THE HANDLE ATTACH TO. TWO DOORS ARE BROKEN AND UNUSABLE AT THE MOMENT. PASSENGERS CAN'T EXIT THE VEHICLE WHICH POSE A BIG SECURITY RISK. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND SHOULD BE FIXED FOR FREE BY THE MANUFACTURER. TODAY IT COSTS APPROX $3000 TO FIX ALL FOUR DOORS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR PLASTIC HOUSING FRACTURED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,700.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE DETACHED AS THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE HANDLE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE THE NECESSARY PARTS NEEDED FOR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES CRACK FROM NORMAL USE AND EVENTUALLY FAIL. SAFETY ISSUE CANNOT OPEN DOOR FROM INTERIOR. *TR
INSIDE DOOR HANDLE PLASTIC IS BROKEN IN ONE DOOR AND CRACKED IN TWO OTHERS. ONCE THIS PLASTIC BREAKS THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLES FALL OUT RENDERING THE DOOR INOPERABLE FROM THE INSIDE. IN AN ACCIDENT THERE IS NO WAY TO GET OUT THROUGH THE DOOR UNLESS YOU BREAK A WINDOW AND REACH THE OUTSIDE HANDLE. FROM THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE ONLINE IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES. JEEP DOES NOT SELL THIS ASSEMBLY SEPARATELY. IT IS ONLY AVAILABLE BY PURCHASING AN ENTIRE DOOR PANEL AT A COST OF FIVE HUNDRED PER REAR DOOR HANDLE AND SIX HUNDRED PLUS PER FRONT AND THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE INSTALLATION. *TR

THE FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH REAR PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLES WERE FRACTURED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FAILURE WAS COMMON, BUT THERE WAS NO COVERAGE OR RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER ALSO ADVISED THAT THE PART HAD BEEN REDESIGNED BY THE MANUFACTURER APPROXIMATELY SEVEN TIMES IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
INTERIOR DOOR PANELS ARE CRACKING & BREAKING APART AROUND HANDLES. THREE OF FOUR DOORS ALREADY HAVE DAMAGE, AM WAITING FOR REAR PASSENGER DOOR TO DO THE SAME. PURCHASED 2005 JEEP, USED, W/ LESS THAN 21,000 MILES ON ODOMETER, NO VISIBLE DAMAGE AT THAT TIME. REAR DOORS ARE RARELY USED AS WE USUALLY ONLY HAVE THE DRIVER OR DRIVER AND ONE PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE. HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT W/ JEEP/CHRYSLER, HOWEVER, THEY MAINTAIN THAT: THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF 3 YR/36000 MILE WARRANTY; IT WAS PURCHASED USED; THEREFORE, THEY WILL NOT HELP TO REPAIR THIS, EVEN THOUGH IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND OBVIOUSLY THE DOOR PANELS WERE DEFECTIVE INITIALLY. CUSTOMER SERVICE @ CHRYSLER EVEN SUGGESTED THAT I GO TO A DEALER & HAVE THEM INSPECT THIS. I ASKED IF THE DEALER WOULD HAVE A 'PLASTICS PROFESSIONAL' ON HAND TO BE ABLE TO SAY THAT THE PANELS WERE DEFECTIVE, OF COURSE THE ANSWER IS 'NO'. DEALERS WILL ONLY DO WHAT CHRYSLER TELLS THEM, AND SO FAR, WE'RE NOT GETTING ANYWHERE W/ THEM. HELP!!! *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE BEZEL COULD EITHER BE REPLACED OR GLUED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE CONTACT HAD THE SAME SEAT BELT REPLACED TWO YEARS PRIOR TO THE MOST RECENT FAILURE. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER BUT THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V396000 (POWER TRAIN); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE HEAT WAS ACTIVATED, AND THERE WAS A ODOR OF FUMES COMING FROM THE VENTS. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, AND TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HOSE WAS DETACHED FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE HOSE WAS REPLACED AND THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS REPLACED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
FAILED TO START ON 2 OCCASIONS 8/10/11 & 8/17/11. ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WORKING; BATTERY RECENTLY REPLACED. *KB
REAR MIDDLE SEAT BELT IS STUCK IN RETRACTED POSITION. IT IS SO TIGHT THAT IT IS DIGGING INTO THE TOP OF SEAT. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT HAPPENS AFTER PULLING THE BACK SEAT DOWN FOR CARGO. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE, WHAT IF IT LOCKED LIKE THIS WHEN A PERSON IS USING IT AND COULDN'T GET OUT IN AN EMERGENCY. I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED BY JEEP. *TR
THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ON MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ARE ALL BROKEN. TWO OF THEM ARE INOPERABLE. THE CHEAP MATERIAL USED BY THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RECALLED AS IT CRACKS VERY EASILY. ONCE THE INSIDE HANDLE IS BROKEN THE DOOR CAN NOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN IN CASE OF A FIRE OR ACCIDENT. THE DEALER SAYS THE WHOLE DOOR PANEL WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND NOT JUST THE HANDLE, AS THEY ARE ATTACHED TOGETHER. THE COST OF EACH PANEL IS APPROXIMATELY $700 EACH. *TR
2005 JEEP CHEROKEE LAREDO STALLS WHILE BEING DRIVEN AT LESS THAN 50 MI/H AND AFTER BACKING UP IN THE DRIVEWAY ALMOST EVERY DAY (HAS BEEN DOING IT FOR A YEAR NOW). IT HAS 70,000 MILES ON. REPLACED ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY AFTER SHUT OFF COMPLETELY IN JUNE 2011 AT 67,000 MILES. *TR
2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED - CAR IS IN GOOD CONDITION EXCEPT FOR 3 OF THE 4 DOORS HAVE HANDLES CASINGS THAT ARE CRACKED AND THE DOOR HANDLE IS HANGING OFF. THE CAR IS WELL MAINTAINED AND GARAGE KEPT. THIS STARTED HAPPENING IN THE LAST YEAR AND HAS SPREAD RAPIDLY. ALL 3 DOORS HAVE DONE IT THE SAME PLACE AND IT HAS STARTED WITH A CRACK AND THEN GROWN INTO THE PIECES FALLING OFF AND LEAVING THE INNER WORKINGS OF THE DOOR FULLY EXPOSED. THIS A GRAVE SAFETY ISSUE AND A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED. *KB

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AS SHE ENTERED A PARKING SPACE AT 2 MPH WITH THE BRAKES PARTIALLY DEPRESSED, THERE WAS SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE FRONT OF A STORE AND ACCELERATED THROUGH THE STORE . THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED DURING THE FAILURE BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. ONCE THE VEHICLE CRASHED THROUGH THE FRONT OF THE STORE, THE REAR TIRES CONTINUED TO SPIN UNCONTROLLABLY. THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED ON THE LEFT SIDE BUMPER, THE WINDSHIELD AND THE ROOF. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. ALL THREE OCCUPANTS IN THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED NECK AND BACK INJURIES. THE DEALER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE MANUFACTURER WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000. WHILE DRIVING MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO TONIGHT THE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR LIGHTS FLICKERED ON AND OFF. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED AFTER TURNING THE LIGHTS OFF AND ON. *TR
I HAVE AN 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED AND ALL 4 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES STARTED WITH HAIRLINE CRACKS THAT HAVE ADVANCED INTO MAJOR CRACKS AND PIECES OF THE PLASTIC MISSING WHERE THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE IS LOCATED. RECENTLY, 2 DAYS AGO- THE BACK PASSENGER HANDLE COMPLETELY CAME OFF AND NOW IS INOPERABLE. THERE IS NO WAY TO EXIT THE VEHICLE FROM THE INSIDE OF THAT AFFECTED DOOR. I AM CERTAIN THAT ALL MY DOOR HANDLES WILL EVENTUALLY FOLLOW SUIT AND I WILL HAVE NO OPERABLE DOORS IN THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AS SUCH. THIS IS NOT COSMETIC. ALL 4 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE PANELS NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE DOOR HANDLES ARE NOT SECURE AND WILL CONTINUE TO CRUMBLE UNTIL THEY ARE NOT USABLE ANYMORE. THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE INTERIOR DOOR PANELS ARE DEFECTIVE . THE HANDLES ARE ALL PLASTIC AND THEY ALL BREAK OFF FROM THE DOOR PANEL. JEEP HAS REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THEY HAVE A WAITING LIST FOR NEW DOOR PANELS AND THEY WILL NOT PRODUCE THE PART TO FIX THIS SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE PROBLEM THAT COULD COST A LIFE IF THE PERSON REACHES FOR THE HANDLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR AND CANNOT. THEY NEED TO MAKE THIS A RECALL AND ISSUE PARTS TO REPLACE THIS FOR FREE FOR OWNERS OF THE JEEPS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS, THE VEHICLE STARTED SUCCESSFULLY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT HE REPLACED THE BATTERY, STARTER, AND STARTER RELAY AT INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOPS, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT BACK TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.

I BELIEVE THIS RECALL APPLIES TO MY VEHICLE. I HAVE THE V6 AND SAME TRANSMISSION IT AFFECTED OVER 100,000 VEHICLES. A MECHANIC LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED THE LEAK AND SHUTTER OF THE TORKCONVERTER. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AROUND THE DATE OF THE RECALL ISSUED AND PERHAPS THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT PERFORM THE FIX PRIOR TO SALE. PLEASE HELP I DON'T WANT MY CAR TO GO ON FIRE. RECALL ID # 05V396000 - POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION RECALL DATE: SEPT 14, 2005 COMPONENT: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION MODEL AFFECTED: GRAND CHEROKEE UNITS AFFECTED: 101925 SUMMARY: ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 3.7L ENGINES AND NAG1 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS, THE AIR CONDITIONER EVAPORATOR CONDENSATE WATER MAY ENTER THE TRANSMISSION AT THE FILL TUBE GROMMET SEAL. THIS CAN RESULT IN SHUDDER DURING TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ENGAGEMENT. CONSEQUENCE: IT CAN LEAD TO INCREASED TRANSMISSION OPERATING TEMPERATURES, BOILING OF THE WATER, AND A SUBSEQUENT PURGING OF TRANSMISSION FLUID INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN AN UNDERHOOD FIRE. REMEDY: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE TRANSMISSION FOR LEAKAGE AT THE FILL TUBE GROMMET SEAL. IF NO LEAK IS DETECTED, A NEW FILL TUBE GROMMET SEAL AND WATER DEFLECTOR SHIELD WILL BE INSTALLED, AND PROPER ALIGNMENT OF THE FILL TUBE VERIFIED. IF THE PRESENCE OF A LEAK IS DETECTED, THE VEHICLE WILL BE EVALUATED FOR SHUDDER DURING TORQUE CONVERTER ENGAGEMENT. IF NO SHUDDER IS DETECTED, THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE TRIPLE FLUSHED, AND NEW FILL TUBE GROMMET SEAL AND WATER DEFLECTOR WILL BE INSTALLED AND PROPER ALIGNMENT OF THE FILL TUBE VERIFIED. IF SHUDDER IS DETECTED, THE TORQUE CONVERTER WILL BE REPLACED, A NEW FILL TUBE GROMMET SEAL AND WATER DEFLECTOR WILL BE INSTALLED, AND PROPER ALIGNMENT OF THE FILL TUBE VERIFIED. 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE TRIM COMPLETELY SHATTERS FOR NO APPARENT REASON. DOOR HANDLES ARE INOPERATIVE FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE. EVERY DOOR HANDLE HAS THIS SAME ISSUE. CHRYSLER-JEEP OFFICIALLY DENIES ANY CULPABILITY, BUT WILL GIVE A DISCOUNT OFF OF THE $2,500 REPAIR BILL, SO CONSUMERS MUST PAY $1,000 FOR THE MANUFACTURING DEFECT. EVEN EXTENDED WARRANTIES WILL NOT COVER THE ISSUE. I HOPE TO GOD NO ONE EVER DESPERATELY NEEDS TO GET OUT OF ONE OF THESE DEATH TRAPS IN AN EMERGENCY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ACTIVATED, THE CONTACT NOTICED WARM AIR EMITTED THROUGH THE VENTS WITH AN UNUSUAL ODOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THE AIR CONDITIONER EVAPORATOR WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000. UPDATED 02/17/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED IN ORDER TO FIX THE PROBLEM, IT WOULD REQUIRE THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD AND STEERING COLUMN TO BE REMOVED. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED TWICE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE PART WAS MAILED TO THEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THIS HAS OCCURRED ON 3 OF 4 DOORS WITH THE 4TH DOOR POSSIBLY FAILING IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFEY ISSUE PREVENTING OCCUPANTS FROM EXITING THE VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS ON THE INTERNET. ALTHOUGH, INTERNET REPORTS ARE FREQUENTLY UNRELIABLE, THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF POSTINGS DISCUSSING THIS CONDITION. FURTHER, AT LEAST ONE REPORT INDICATES THAT CHRYSLER HAS AGREED TO REPLACE THE DOOR PANELS FOR A $50 CO-PAY; BUT MY CONTACT WITH CHRYSLER WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT MERITS CONSIDERATION FOR A RECALL. *KB

VEHICLE STALLS AT RANDOM, AND LOOSES POWER STEERING CAPABILITY, CAN CAUSE A CRASH ON WINDY ROADS. VERY SCARY. HAS BEEN TO DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES IN ARIZONA AND HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX. THEY TRIED TO FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY AND UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM CHRYSLER. ALSO WHEN VEHICLE STALLS LOOSES POWER, CAN'T IMMEDIATELY OPEN WINDOWS OR DOORS. DOORS ON THIS VEHICLE ALSO INTERIOR HANDLES ALL WERE BROKEN PREMATURELY RIGHT AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 48000 MILES. THIS SECOND PROBLEM IS SO COMMON THAT DEALER DOESN'T HAVE PART IN STOCK, FACTORY BACK ORDER AND JEEP WON'T FIX IT. IN ORDER FOR THE CONTACT TO EXIT THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT HAD TO ROLL DOWN THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW AND OPEN THE DOOR BY USING THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
I HAVE A GRAND CHEROKEE 2005, I PURCHASE USED LESS THEN 5 MONTHS AGO. THE PASSENGER DOOR OPEN HANDLE FRAME STARTED TO BRAKE UP TO A POINT THAT BROKE THE FRAME. WENT TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASE THE TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL WHICH COST ME OVER 600 DOLLARS. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THEN 60 THOUSAND MILES ... BUT SINCE PASS THE 6 YEARS IT IS NOT COVER UNDER THE WARRANTY. I AM AFRAID TO BUY ANOTHER DOOR PANEL PAY 600 DOLLARS AND BREAK AGAIN.
