JEEP 2005 GRAND CHEROKEE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES BROKEN AND CRACKED. THREE OF THE FOUR DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKEN IN OUR JEEP DUE TO WEAK DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING DEFECT. *TR
17JAN11 -- DOOR HANDLE FAULTY -- I OWN A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT TWO HAVE CRACKED AT THE DOOR HANDLE. IF THEY CONTINUE TO FALL APART THE VEHICLE OCCUPANT WILL BE TRAPPED WITHIN THE VEHICLE. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO FIX OR HELP WITH THE $1,400.00 BILL FOR JUST THE TWO DOOR PANELS. IF THE BATTERY WERE TO DIE YOU WOULD BE TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE, OR IF YOU WERE FORCED OFF OF THE ROAD AND ENDED UP IN A LAKE YOU COULD NOT GET OUT. MY FRIEND HAS EXPLAINED THIS TO CHRYSLER AND THEY DO NOT FEEL THAT IT IS A CONCERN THAT THEY HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT. I EXPLAINED THAT I WOULD SEND PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE TO SHOW IT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, AND GARAGE KEPT (NO DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE), ADULT DRIVEN. WHY DID THE OTHER TWO PANELS CRACK, THEY HAVE NO ANSWER. *TR
IN COLD WEATHER (ANYTHING BELOW APPROXIMATELY 30F) ALL INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATOR LIGHTS LIGHT UP, THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER NEEDLES DROP TO ZERO, AS DO THE FUEL AND ENGINE TEMPERATURE GAUGES. THE REVERSE ASSIST INDICATOR LIGHTS IN THE TAILGATE ALSO LIGHT UP. THERE IS A CLICKING SOUND IN THE DASHBOARD. THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN, BUT THE ABS SERVICE REQUIRED INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATOR LIGHT DOES STAY LIT UP. THIS IS AN EVERYDAY OCCURRENCE IN COLD WEATHER, AND STARTS HAPPENING 10-12 MINUTES AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT TO A FULL STOP AND THE ENGINE TURNED OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN BEFORE IT STOPS HAPPENING. UNTIL STOPPING AND RESTARTING, IT JUST KEEPS ON OCCURRING. A QUICK SEARCH OF THE INTERNET REVEALS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH VARIOUS YEAR MODELS OF THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP SIMPLY PLEADS IGNORANCE AFTER CHARGING ME SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS TO 'FIX' A LOOSE CONNECTION UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT. AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM OF THIS NATURE POSES A DEFINITE ELECTRICAL FIRE HAZARD. DO WE NEED TO WAIT FOR THAT BEFORE TAKING ACTION OR CAN WE BE PROACTIVE? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRAFFIC WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE FAILURE COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO A CRASH. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO IDENTIFY WHAT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.
INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES HAVE BROKEN. REAR PASSENGERS CANNOT EXIT VEHICLE. SOON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL COMPLETELY FAIL. *TR
WHEN DRIVING HOME AT NIGHT AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MILES PER HOUR ALL THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON, THEN THE DASHBOARD WENT BLANK AND SHORTLY AFTER THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF. AFTER HITTING THE BRAKES THE DASHBOARD AND HEADLIGHTS CAME BACK ON, THE HEADLIGHTS WERE ON AUTO. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE INTERNET AND IT APPEARS THAT JEEP HAS A PROBLEM WITH THIS ON THEIR 2005 JEEPS AND IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATHS IF NOT FIXED. *TR
MY 2005 GRAND JEEP CHEROKEE LIMITED HAS DEFECTIVE DOOR PANELS. 3 DOOR PANELS HAVE HOLES AROUND THE HANDLE, 1 IS COMPLETELY BROKEN AND IS WILL NOT OPEN THE DOOR. THE 4TH DOOR PANEL IS CRACKING. SOON ALL FOUR DOORS WILL NOT BE ABLED TO BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE, CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE.THIS CAR IS IN MINT CONDITION WITH ONLY 26,000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS A DEFECT, NOT WEAR AND TEAR!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE BUT IT WOULD NOT START. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS AND A REPAIR SHOP, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
JEEP 2005 DOOR HANDLE HOUSING CRACKED ON ALL 4 DOORS. CAR HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. I REPLACED 1 IN 2010 (PASSENGER FRONT AT A COST OF $700). NOW THE OTHER 3 ARE CRACKED AND 2 INOPERABLE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AS THE DOORS MUST BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE. *TR
DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND SERVICE ELECTRICAL BRAKE SYSTEM COME ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. WHEN THE DASHBOARD FLICKERS ALL GAUGES SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. RESEARCHED ON INTERNET AND THIS IS A GLOBAL ISSUE WITH 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES. *TR
INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKEN. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU CANNOT GET OUT OF THE CAR - ESPECIALLY IN AN EMERGENCY. THE REAR DOOR HANDLES HAVE BEEN VERY RARELY USED, AND STILL HAVE BROKEN. THIS IS DEFINITELY A MFG DEFECT THAT THEY ARE AVOIDING. VERY DANGEROUS AND UNACCEPTABLE THAT THEY (JEEP) ARE NOT RECOGNIZING THIS ISSUE. *TR
PLASTIC PANELS THAT HOLD THE DOOR HANDLES ARE CRACKING AND BREAKING, CAUSING THE DOOR HANDLES NOT TO WORK. AFTER THE DOOR PANELS BREAK WE CANNOT OPEN THE DOORS FROM INSIDE THE CAR. AT THIS POINT WE HAVE ONE DOOR COMPLETELY INOPERABLE, ONE WITH PLASTIC BROKEN AND MISSING, AND TWO WHERE THE CRACKING HAS STARTED. *TR
2 OUT OF 4 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ON MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAVE BROKEN & ARE SUBSEQUENTLY RENDERED USELESS. THIS IS A HAZARD IF THERE WERE TO BE A CRASH & INDIVIDUALS INSIDE NEEDED TO GET OUT. THERE IS ALSO CRACKING IN THE DOOR HANDLE ON THE DRIVER'S DOOR WHICH COULD LEAD TO A MORE SEVERE CASE OF BEING TRAPPED. AT THIS POINT & THROUGH MY SEARCHES ONLINE IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A GREATLY OCCURRING ISSUE & NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH ON THE MANUFACTURER LEVEL. THERE HAS BEEN NOTHING DONE AS OF YET TO REPLACE THE PARTS AS I FEEL IT IS A MALFUNCTION OF THE VEHICLE & NOT NORMAL WEAR & TEAR. THE ESTIMATED COST TO REPLACE EACH DOOR PANEL WITH A SIMILARLY CHEAP QUALITY PRODUCT IS $800. I WOULD LIKE TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT IN HOPES OF CREATING A LARGE LIST OF OWNERS WITH SIMILAR ISSUES SO THAT CHRYSLER/JEEP TAKES RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR SHODDY PRODUCT & OFFICIATES A RECALL. *TR
THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE PLASTIC USED TO MAKE THE DOOR PANELS ON MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE PLASTIC AROUND THE DOOR HANDLE LATCHES IS BREAKING APART AND CRUMBLING. ALL 4 DOORS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE OF THE PLASTIC FAILING. IF THE PLASTIC CONTINUES TO BREAK APART THE DOOR HANDLE WILL FAIL AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR. THIS IS SAFETY ISSUE WHICH COULD PREVENT MYSELF OR PASSENGERS FROM EXITING VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE DEFECT. DEALERSHIP STATED THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THEY HAD NOT COME ACROSS SAID PROBLEM BEFORE. I INFORMED THEM THAT IT WAS OBVIOUS DEFECT SINCE ALL THE DOORS WERE DEGRADING AT THE SAME TIME. DEALERSHIP STATED THAT MY ONLY OPTION WAS TO BUY NEW DOOR PANELS FOR $2600. MY RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AND THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE DEFECT DOOR PANELS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND CHRYSLER NEEDS TO RECALL THE DOOR PANELS ON THIS MODEL. *TR
UNSURE OF THE SPECIFIC INCIDENT DATE. THE FAILURE IS THE PLASTIC MOLDING AROUND THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE FOR 3 OUT OF 4 DOORS. THE PLASTIC HAS BROKEN, EXPOSING THE INSIDE MECHANICS AND ALLOWING FOR THE HANDLED TO EXTEND FURTHER THAN NECESSARY. THIS MAKES EXIT QUESTIONABLE AS THE DOOR HANDLE IS ONLY HOLDING ON TO THE LATCH WITHOUT ANY PLACE FOR LEVERAGE. IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT/EMERGENCY, IF THE DOOR WAS TO BE INVOLVED IT IS POSSIBLE THE HANDLE WOULD SUFFER FURTHER DAMAGE AND BE UNABLE TO OPERATE. THERE HAS BEEN NOTHING DONE ABOUT REPLACING THE PART. IT COSTS ROUGHLY $700 PER DOOR TO REPAIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THE INSIDE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT DOOR HANDLES WERE BREAKING WHICH MADE IT DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE VEHICLE FROM THE INSIDE. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
I HAVE A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND I REALLY HAVE A CONCERN TO WHOM OR WHERE I COULD FILE A CLAIM WITH A PROBLEM WITH MY INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES. THE REASON WHY I'M COMPLAINING IS THAT ALL THE 4 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES CANNOT BY OPENED FROM THE INSIDE AS USUAL BECAUSE ALL OF THEM ARE BROKEN AND WITH THE PLASTIC CRACKED, MADE IN PIECES AND HOLES WHERE THE PLASTIC HAS BEEN MISSING. MOST OF THE TIME I HAVE OR THE PASSENGERS HAVE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM OUTSIDE. PLEASE HELP ME IN THIS OR GIVE ME SOME ADVICE. WHAT I HAVE TO DO OR WHERE I COULD FIND INFORMATION TO REPLACE THEM. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE OIL DIP STICK SEAL ON THE TRANSMISSION WAS ALLOWING WATER FROM THE AIR CONDITIONER EVAPORATOR TO ENTER THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONTACT FOUND THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V396000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) AND NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,231.
3 OUT OF 4 INSIDE DOOR HANDLES BROKEN DUE TO CHEAP PLASTIC USED. UNABLE TO GET OUT OF JEEP FROM THE INSIDE. IF THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT, YOU COULD BE TRAPPED INSIDE. COULD CAUSE DEATH OR INJURY. DEALERSHIP CHARGING OVER $2000 OUT OF POCKET TO FIX WHEN IT WAS CAUSED BY FAULTY, BRITTLE PLASTIC. UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITH MY KIDS IN THE BACK SEAT. *TR

I OWN A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND ALL OF MY DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKEN AND/OR MISSING. THIS CAUSES MASSIVE CONCERN FOR THE SAFETY OF ANY PASSENGERS IN MY CAR. YOU CANNOT OPERATE THE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE AND IF WE GET INTO A WRECK, THEY WOULD BE UNABLE TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT THE PARTS ARE SO CHEAP AND JEEP WILL NOT DO A RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM. MOST CONSUMERS DO NOT HAVE $2000.00 TO HAVE THE DOORS REPAIRED WITH THE SAME CHEAP PLASTIC TO END UP IN THE SAME SITUATION AGAIN. PLEASE JEEP, DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ASAP!!!!!!!! *TR
MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS HAD ALL 4 DOOR HANDLES CRACK AND 1 HAS COMPLETELY BROKEN OFF. AFTER RESEARCHING THE INTERNET, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE ON THIS VEHICLE, AND SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. IN ANY OCCASION WHERE EXITING THE VEHICLE QUICKLY IS NECESSARY, BROKEN DOOR HANDLE(S) CAN RISK INJURY AND DEATH TO OCCUPANTS. THIS IS NOT A MINOR ISSUE, JUST LIKE AN EMERGENCY EXIT IN A BUILDING, IT CAN BE POTENTIALLY FATAL. NHTSA OWES THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA THE COMMON COURTESY TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS POSSES A HUGE RISK FOR IT'S CITIZENS. PLEASE PROTECT OUR RIGHT TO SAFE VEHICLES, AND THE RESPONSIBILITY OF AUTO MAKERS TO REMEDY ANY ERRORS IN DESIGN THAT PERTAIN TO HUMAN SAFETY! *TR
TL* THE DRIVER OWNED A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS CRASH AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUFFERED VERY SERIOUS INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO A HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITY. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
I OWN A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED HEMI , IT ONLY HAD 26,000 MILES ON IT. ALL FOUR OF THE INTERIOR DOOR PANELS HAVE NOW BROKE WHERE THE DOOR HANDLE IS ATTACHED. THE DRIVERS DOOR PANEL HAS BROKE THE WORST AND THE DOOR HANDLE IS NOT EVEN ATTACHED TO THE PANEL ANYMORE , WHICH HAS BECOME A SAFETY CONCERN. I HAVE CONTACTED MY DEALER AND TURNED IN A CLAIM FOR CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS. AFTER 3 OR 4 WEEKS THEY CONTACTED ME TO SAY IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THAT IS PRECISELY WHY I CALLED THEM AND EXPLAINED MY SITUATION. SURELY THEY CAN DO SOMETHING TO ALLEVIATE THIS SITUATION , ALL FOUR DOOR PANELS IS GOING TO COST AROUND $3,000 DOLLARS. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS REPORTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT SITES ON THE INTERNET. THE WHOLE INTERIOR PANEL IS CONNECTED TO WHERE THE DOOR HANDLE IS SITUATED. MEANING YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE DOOR PANEL. PLEASE HELP, THIS IS DEFINITELY A BIG DEFECT AND A COSTLY ONE TO US THE CONSUMER. ANY HELP TO THIS MATTER OR A FIX TO THIS SITUATION WOULD BE HUGELY APPRECIATED. *TR
ON APPROXIMATELY DECEMBER 8, 2010 THE PLASTIC AROUND THE INSIDE LEFT REAR DOOR HANDLE CRACKED WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS OPENING THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. AFTER THAT THE HANDLE WAS LOOSE AND I FREQUENTLY HAD TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE TO LET HER OUT OF THE JEEP. AROUND JULY OF 2011 MY FATHER TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE AND MORE OF THE PLASTIC SURROUNDING THE HANDLE BROKE OFF AND THE HANDLE FELL DOWN INSIDE THE DOOR PANEL. NOW THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED AT ALL FROM THE INSIDE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. THE DOOR HANDLE WAS NEVER HANDLED IN A ROUGH MANNER AND SHOULD NEVER HAVE FAILED LIKE THIS. *TR
LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES IN DECEMBER 2010 AT 42,000 MILES OUR 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE (LIMITED) DEVELOPED A CRACK IN THE DRIVERS' DOOR HANDLE HOUSING CAUSING THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE TO COME LOOSE FROM THE INSIDE DOOR PANEL. (THE DOOR HANDLE IS SET IN A HOLE MADE OF THIN PLASTIC THAT FUNCTIONS AS A PIVOT HINGE. ONCE THE PLASTIC CRACKS THEN THE HANDLE JUST POPS OUT OF THE DOOR PANEL.) THEN IN JANUARY 2011, THE RIGHT REAR DOOR HANDLE DEVELOPED THE SAME PROBLEM AND THIS DOOR HANDLE ALSO CAME OUT OF THE HANDLE HOUSING, AND IT CAN NO LONGER BE OPENED FROM INSIDE THE CAR. UPON INSPECTION WE DISCOVERED THAT BOTH THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER DOOR AND REAR LEFT PASSENGER DOOR HAVE DEVELOPED CRACKS IN THE PLASTIC IN THE SAME PLACE, AND WILL LIKELY BREAK SOON. WE NOTE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN 42 IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS LODGED ON THE NHTSA SITE INVOLVING THIS SAME PROBLEM ON THE 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. HERE IN FLORIDA, WITH FREQUENT OPPORTUNITIES TO RUN OFF THE ROAD INTO LAKES OR CANALS, THIS PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY SERIOUS, POSSIBLY CAUSING PERSONS TO DROWN IN THE CAR WHEN UNABLE TO UNLATCH THE DOOR IN AN EMERGENCY. CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS SAID THEY DO NOT HAVE A RECORD OF THIS ISSUE AND THEY DO NOT FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD COVER THE REPAIRS IF THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. SOME OTHER PERSONS WHO HAVE REPORTED THE ISSUE STATE THAT TO REPAIR THE DOOR HANDLE REQUIRES A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE SIDE DOOR PANELS AT A COST OF OVER $700 PER DOOR. IT IS ENTIRELY UNREASONABLE THAT A CAR WOULD HAVE NO WORKABLE DOOR HANDLES AFTER JUST 5 YEARS OR 42,000 MILES OF USE. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, NOR IS IT REASONABLE WEAR AND TEAR. WE RARELY HAVE BACK SEAT PASSENGERS IN THIS VEHICLE. IT IS CLEARLY A DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND SUBSTANDARD MATERIALS. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES TO CORRECT THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2005 JEEP(WITH MY 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE BACK)ON A FRIDAY EVENING MY DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS WENT NUTS. THEY FLASHED ON AND OFF FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS AND IT WAS PITCH BLACK-I WAS GOING ABOUT 60MPH. I DECIDED TO TAKE IT REALLY SLOWLY BUT KEEP ON DRIVING,I HAD ISSUES EARLIER THIS YEAR WITH SOME SHIFTING MODULE.I REALLY GET FREAKED OUT ABOUT THIS STUFF WHEN MY DAUGHTERS IN THE CAR BUT IT WAS FINE FOR THE REST OF THE WEEKEND .THEN MONDAY COMES. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY DOING ABOUT 70MPH WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME IT WAS NOT MY FRONT LIGHTS BUT IT WAS THE DASHBOARD AGAIN FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES. I CALLED CHRYSLER BECAUSE I HAVE A POWER-TERRAIN WARRANTY I THOUGHT IT MY BE COVERED. BUT I NEED TO PAY TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED-NOT EASY IN DECEMBER RIGHT BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS. THE OTHER PROBLEM IS A "POP" OR "LOCK" WHEN I'M DRIVING. IT SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM THE BACK. ALMOST LIKE THE BRAKES LOCKING???AND AGAIN HAVE TO PAY TO JUST HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. IN MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED I BEGAN TO NOTICE THE PLASTIC THAT THE DOOR HANDLE WAS CONNECTED BY BEGAN TO CRACK, WITHIN A FEW WEEKS THE ENTIRE DOOR HANDLE WAS NO LONGER WORKING LEAVING ME TO HAVE TO OPEN THE WINDOW TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. THIS IS A VEHICLE SAFETY ISSUE, DUE TO A SUPPLIER'S DEFECTIVE PLASTIC RESIN MIX, NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE. IN CASE OF A CRASH OR FIRE, A PASSENGER OR DRIVER MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND COULD BE TRAPPED IN AND COULD DIE, MY PASSENGER SIDE IS ALSO HANGING VERY LOOSELY AND SOON WILL NOT WORK AS WELL. THE DOOR HANDLE IS NOT A SEPARATE PART AS IN MOST VEHICLES SO THE ENTIRE DOOR HANDLE MUST BE REPLACE. THE DEALER CHARGES MORE THAN 800 DOLLARS TO FIX A DOOR PIECE, AND THE PART WILL JUST BE REPLACED WITH ANOTHER DOOR PANEL WITH THE EXACT SAME PLASTIC THAT WILL BREAK EVENTUALLY AGAIN. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BATTERY AND FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIRE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
ON THE DRIVERS DOOR AND THE RIGHT PASSENGER DOOR, THE PLASTIC OF THE PANEL SUPPORTING THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HAS BROKEN LEAVING THE HANDLE UNMOUNTED AND USELESS. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT TAKES MORE TIME TO EGRESS THE VEHICLE IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH TPMS SENSORS INSTALLED. APPARENTLY, METAL CAPS WERE INSTALLED ON THE VALVE STEMS THAT OXIDATED TOGETHER MAKING THEIR REMOVAL IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT TWISTING OFF THE VALVE STEM, FLATTENING THE TIRE. I CAN'T EVEN GET A REPLACEMENT TPMS VALVE REPLACEMENT FROM JEEP (MOPAR) BECAUSE THEY ARE ON BACKORDER (DUE TO HIGH DEMAND BECAUSE OF PROBLEMS LIKE THIS). THIS CREATES AN UNSAFE DRIVING SITUATION--I CAN'T CHECK MY TIRE PRESSURE BECAUSE THE CAP IS FROZEN ON TO THE STEM--IF I TRY TO REMOVE IT, THE STEM WILL BREAK, AND THERE IS NO SUPPLY OF TPMS REPLACEMENT PARTS. THESE SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN ON THE MARKET INSTALLED THIS WAY-THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD RUBBER/PLASTIC CAPS INSTALLED. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE AIR CONDITIONER WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ACTIVATE AS THE FAILURE OCCURRED AND THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE SPORADICALLY. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHEN I START AND AS I'M DRIVING THE TRUCK THE HEADLIGHTS ARE FLICKERING ALONG WITH THE RADIO. THE RPM AND SPEEDOMETER GAUGES ARE JUMPING UP AND DOWN AS I DRIVE. I CAN HEAR A CLUSTER OF CLICKING NOISES COMING FROM BEHIND THE RADIO, UNDERNEATH THE STEERING WHEEL IN THE WIRING HARNESS'S AND ALSO FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD IN THE FUZE BOX CLOSET TO THE DRIVER. THE HEATED SEATS DO NOT WORK ALONG WITH THE RADIO AND GPS, THE TURNING SIGNALS AND THE FOG LIGHTS DO NOT WORK WHEN THIS IS GOING ON. THE DEALER HAS NO IDEA WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE CAR, I HAVE ALREADY CHANGED THE BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, AND STARTER. THIS SEAMS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS TRUCK AND ITS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD.

MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE STARTED ACTING UP ABOUT A YEAR AFTER I PURCHASED IT AND HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE AND WORSE. IT HAS PROBLEMS SHIFTING AND IDENTIFYING WHAT GEAR IT IS IN ON A DAILY BASIS, FOR EXAMPLE WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE FROM PARK PRND WILL ALL BE ILLUMINATED LIKE IT DOESN'T KNOW WHAT GEAR IT IS IN AND IT WILL MAKE A LOUD THUD SOUND. THEN WHEN YOU DRIVE IT WON'T SHIFT FROM FIRST GEAR AND WILL REV UP OR IT WILL GET STUCK IN 3RD GEAR AND WON'T DOWN SHIFT. SOMETIMES IT WILL BE DRIVING NORMAL AND WHEN I STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND THEN GO TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC IT WILL STALL RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND I CAN'T GET IT TO SNAP OUT OF IT! IT WILL ALSO DECIDE THAT IT DOESN'T KNOW WHAT GEAR IT IS IN WHILE I AM DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND WILL START TO REV UP AND FREEZE ON ME. THIS IS VERY UNSETTLING AND DANGEROUS AND COULD DEFIANTLY CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ IN OTHER REVIEWS MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SO IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE JUST A COINCIDENCE TO ME AND SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE. THE INSIDE PLASTIC THAT MOUNTS THE DOOR HANDLES CONTINUES TO CRACK AND BREAK AWAY LEAVING THE HANDLES UNMOUNTED. THIS MUST BE A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE ANY POINT IN TIME THE HANDLES COULD STOP FUNCTIONING LEAVING THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS TRAPPED INSIDE. I HAVE A 2005 JEEP GCHE WITH 29,385 MILES ON IT. EVENT OCCURRED ON OCT. 28, 2010 AROUND 2 PM. I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HARBOR FWY. GETTING CLOSE TO THE EXIT I WAS USING (ANAHEIM STREET). I PUT ON MY BRAKES JUST TO SLOW DOWN AND THE BRAKES GRABBED HARSHLY AND THEN RELEASED. AS I NEARED THE PLACE WHERE I HAD TO STOP I PUT ON THE BRAKES AND THERE WAS A CLUNK AS IF SOMETHING FELL OFF AND THE BRAKE GRABBED TO ONE SIDE, RELEASED AND THEN FINALLY AFTER KEEPING MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES, HOLDING MY FOOT DOWN, I EVENTUALLY STOPPED. THIS WHOLE EVENT TOOK SEVERAL FEEL FOR ME TO STOP. THIS WAS NOT A NORMAL BRAKE FAILURE!. I FEEL LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. THEY REPAIRED IT AND SAID THAT THE BOLT THAT HOLDS THE BRAKE UNIT ON HAD FALLEN OFF!! THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER POINTED OUT TO ME THAT ON THE RIGHT INNER PART OF THE WHEEL WAS METAL SCRAP MARKS (THIS IS WHERE THE BRAKE HAD FALLEN LOOSE AND WAY DRAGGING ON THE WHEEL.) DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUE OF BEING UNABLE TO EXIT THE BACK SEAT AREA FROM THE INSIDE, I AM FEARFULL TO ALLOW ANYONE TO RIDE IN THE BACK SEAT AT THIS TIME. IF AN ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR, THEY COULD BE UNABLE TO EXIT THE CAR FROM THE INSIDE. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS POSTED AS WELL AS A WEBSITE WHERE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ARE STATING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE WITH THEIR 2005 JEEP. THERE WAS NOT ANY OUTSIDE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT CAUSED THIS DEFECT. THE DEALER STATES IT IS 'NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR'. THIS IS A CROCK, 99% OF THE TIME I AM THE ONLY PERSON IN THIS VEHICLE AND MY HANDLE HAS NOT BROKEN 'YET'. THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE SAFETY HAZARD.
