ONE OF THE DOOR HANDLES ON MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS BROKEN OFF AND IS UNUSABLE. THE OTHER THREE ARE CRACKING AND I AM FEARFUL THAT THEY WILL BE BREAKING OFF SOON. THE HANDLES AND THE SUPPORTING DOOR FRAMES ARE ALL CRACKING IN THE SAME LOCATION AND THE HANDLES THEN FALL OFF. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN UNWILLING TO EVEN DISCUSS THE ISSUE. THE ORIGINAL DEALER IS OUT OF BUSINESS AND THE LOCAL DEALER STATES IT IS $680 PER DOOR TO FIX. PARTS TO FIX THE DOOR HANDLES ARE UNAVAILABLE FOR SALE OUTSIDE THE DEALERSHIPS. DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUE OF BEING UNABLE TO EXIT THE BACK SEAT AREA FROM THE INSIDE, I AM FEARFUL TO ALLOW ANYONE TO RIDE IN THE BACK SEAT AT THIS TIME. IF AN ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR, THEY COULD BE UNABLE TO EXIT THE CAR FROM THE INSIDE. I SEE THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS POSTED AS WELL AS A WEBSITE WHERE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ARE STATING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE WITH THEIR 2005 JEEP. THERE WAS NOT ANY OUTSIDE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT CAUSED THIS DEFECT. 99% OF THE TIME I AM THE ONLY PERSON IN THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATES IT IS ?NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR?. WHAT A CROCK MY DOOR HANDLE GETS USED 10 TIMES A DAY AND IT HAS FAILED "YET" THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE SAFETY HAZARD. I HOPE YOU WILL ADDRESS AS A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED BECAUSE THEY CANNOT GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
FRONT PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE SUDDENLY CRACKED/BUSTED UPON GETTING OUT OF THE CAR. LATER, THE OTHER THREE DOOR HANDLES CRACKED/BUSTED. RECENTLY, I FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO GET OUT OF THE CAR BECAUSE THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN DUE TO THE BUSTED HANDLE. *TR
2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE DEFECTIVE. PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLE HAS COMPLETELY BROKEN DUE TO THE CHEAP PLASTIC AND THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE HAS ALMOST FAILED AS WELL. I AM AFRAID THAT IN AN EMERGENCY, I AND MY PASSENGERS MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. I'VE BEEN READING ONLINE AND THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE, BUT CHRYSLER REFUSES TO FIX THE DOORS. THEY WANT $700 PLUS TO FIX EACH DOOR HANDLE, BUT YOU CAN'T EVEN GET ONE BECAUSE THEY ARE ON BACK ORDER. *TR
I HAVE TWO 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES. ALL THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLES ARE CRACKING AND SOME ARE COMPLETELY DESTROYED TO THE POINT YOU CAN NOT OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. WHICH IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, NO ONE WOULD BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. IT'S OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM WITH THE PLASTIC BEING TOO THIN/BRITTLE. IT'S ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE EVEN YOUTUBE VIDEOS. *TR
THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES, ALL 4, BROKE OFF, AT ALMOST THE SAME TIME. THERE IS A COMMON MANUFACTURERS MATERIAL DEFECT, AS THE DOOR HANDLE "POCKET" IS MADE OUT A BRITTLE PLASTIC, AND THEY JUST SHATTERED, OR CRACKED SIMPLY BY USING THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE IN AN EMERGENCY, ONE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IF THE DOOR HANDLE BREAKS OFF IN YOUR HAND.
INTERIOR DOOR PANEL CRACKING AROUND HANDLE. MAKES EXITING THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT. WHEN THE PANEL SHATTERS FURTHER IT WILL MAKE EXITING THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT. *TR
OVER THE PAST YEAR, BOTH DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR PANELS ON MY 2005 GRAND CHEROKEE (LIMITED) HAVE BROKEN. PIECES AROUND THE OPENING HANDLE HAVE SNAPPED OFF. THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR IS STILL USABLE, BUT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE IS JUST HANGING THERE. THESE WERE NOT DAMAGED THROUGH ABUSE, INSTEAD JUST ROUTINE USE. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED MY DEALER AS I HAVE SEEN ON LINE THAT MOST PEOPLE HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL IN GETTING THEIR WARRANTIES TO BACK THEIR CLAIM AND I DON'T HAVE A LOT OF FAITH IN MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO GO OUT OF THEIR WAY FOR A WARRANTY CLAIM. HOPEFULLY THE NHTSA CAN MAKE DAIMLER / CHRYSLER / JEEP / FIAT, WHOEVER STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND REPAIR WHAT HAS BEEN PRETTY MUCH PROVEN TO BE A DESIGN FLAW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR FAILED TO OPEN. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE DOOR HANDLES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. 2005 GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO THE DOOR HANDLES ARE MADE OF A DEFECTIVE PLASTIC AND BRAKES INTO SEVERAL PIECES LIVING THE DOOR HANDLE UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS FROM INSIDE. FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE CHILDREN THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IF YOU ARE IN A WRECK OR IN CASE OF A FIRE THE PASSENGERS IN THE BACK SEAT IS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR. I BELIEVE JEEP SHOULD RECALL THE DOOR HANDLES AT NO COST TO THEIR CUSTOMERS. I HAVE A 2005 JEEP AND 3 OF THE 4 HANDLES HAVE ALREADY BROKEN. I HAVE CHECKED INTO FIXING THE PROBLEM AND THE COST WOULD BE $400.00/DOOR AND THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE DO TO THE FACT THE COST OF VEHICLES ARE AT A RECORD HIGH YOU SHOULD HAVE TO REPLACE DOOR HANDLES EVER 5 YEARS. I HAVE ALWAYS DROVE A CHEVY. OR FORD PRODUCT AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH A UNACCEPTABLE PROBLEM. I AM STARTING TO DOUBT MY DECISION ON PURCHASING A JEEP PRODUCT. *TR

2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE PLASTIC SURROUNDING THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE CRACKED AND FELL APART. IT WAS TAKEN APART AND GLUED BACK TOGETHER. THIS LASTED A SHORT WHILE AND IT THEN BROKE AGAIN. IT IS NOT AN EASY FIX. THE WHOLE DOOR PANEL FOR $600 DOLLARS MUST BE REPLACED. AT TIMES THE WINDOW MUST BE ROLLED DOWN TO OPEN THE DOOR USING THE OUTSIDE HANDLE.IN CASE OF AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE IN AN ACCIDENT YOU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE.THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. MANY JEEPS HAVE HAD ALL 4 DOOR HANDLES BREAK. THIS IS POOR CONSTRUCTION. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO STEP UP AND RECALL AND FIX THIS ISSUE AND NOT BY REPLACING IT WITH MORE CHEAP PLASTIC. *TR
WAS IN AN ACCIDENT TRAVELING APPROX 30MPH HIT ANOTHER CAR (T-BONE) TRAVELING APPROX 50MPH WITH MAJOR INTRUSION TO OPPOSING CAR WITH SIGNIFICANT FRONT END DAMAGE TO MY CAR THERE WAS NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. THIS WAS REPORTED TO COLLISION CENTER THROUGH DEALER POSSIBLY SENDING CAR TO GET TESTED FOR FAULTY AIRBAGS. *TR
TWO OF THE FOUR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ON MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ARE BROKEN OFF AND UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM, IF THERE WERE AN ACCIDENT IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR TWO OF THE PASSENGERS TO BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THEY WERE NOT BROKEN FROM DAMAGING ACTIONS, THEY SIMPLE HAVE JUST BROKE FROM EVERYDAY USE. *TR
2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED EDITION INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES BREAKING OFF. 3 OF THE 4 DOOR HANDLES ARE UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. DUE TO THE NUMBER OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE, JEEP OBVIOUSLY HAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT NEEDS A RECALL ISSUED. *TR
AFTER ONLY 31,000 MILES THE RIGHT FRONT ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM ON A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FAILED TO WORK, CAUSING ERRATIC STOPPING, MOVING AND BRAKING. THE CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND HAD TO BE ACCELERATED RAPIDLY TO AVOID A CRASH. *TR
THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE ON MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS BROKEN OFF AND IS UNUSABLE. , THE PLASTIC SUPPORTING THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HAS BROKEN, LEAVING THE HANDLE UNMOUNTED AND USELESS THE OTHER THREE ARE CRACKING AND WILL BE BREAKING OFF SOON. THE HANDLES AND THE SUPPORTING DOOR FRAMES ARE ALL CRACKING IN THE SAME LOCATION AND THE HANDLES THEN FALL OFF. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN UNWILLING TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUE. THEY DECLINED MY CLAIM WITH MY 100,000 MILE 7 YEAR MAXIMUM CARE UPGRADE EXTENDED WARRANTY. AT FIRST THEY OFFERED (THEN RETRACTED) A GOODWILL GESTURE OF COVERING ALL BUT $500 FOR THE REPLACEMENT. THEY DO NOT CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE! THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE SAFETY HAZARD. I HOPE YOU WILL ADDRESS AS A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED BECAUSE THEY CANNOT GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE.
JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL BROKE & DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE CAUSING A SAFETY HAZARD. THIS IS THE 2ND DOOR HANDLE THAT HAS BROKEN IN THE VEHICLE. IN SEARCHING TO FIX THE BACK DOOR, I FOUND AN ARTICLE SHOWING THAT CHRYSLER WAS AWARE OF A RESIN PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. I CAN FIND A SAFETY RECALL FOR THE LOCKS. *TR
3 OF MY INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE COMPLETELY BROKEN OFF. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT MY EXTENDED WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES. THE TOTAL COST TO REPAIR THE 3 HANDLES IS $2,100.00. I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX THESE HANDLES. I RESEARCHED ONLINE TO SEE IF OTHERS HAD THE SAME ISSUE. AS A MATTER OF FACT, ON THIS SITE ALONE, THERE ARE NUMEROUS ACCOUNTS OF PEOPLE ALL OVER THE COUNTRY THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES WITH THEIR JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE'S. WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL TO FIX THIS ISSUE? DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE END RESULT COULD BE IF SOMEONE IS TRAPPED IN THEIR VEHICLE AFTER A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, BECAUSE THE DOOR HANDLES ARE INOPERABLE? I CAN SEE IF MAYBE A FEW PEOPLE WE'RE COMPLAINING, BUT IT'S NOT. THIS IS FAULTY EQUIPMENT BY THE MANUFACTURE AND CHRYSLER SHOULD OWN UP TO THEIR MISTAKE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE WAS MADE OF DEFECTED PLASTIC. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE WITH THE DEFECT. THE DOOR HANDLE WILL BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 72,000.
WE OWN A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS 2 YEARS OLD AND AT 35,000 MILES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE. THIS WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. MY HUSBAND WAS KIND OF CONCERNED THAT THEY HAD THE PART IN STOCK FOR A TWO YEAR OLD VEHICLE BUT WE HAD IT FIXED AND WENT ON. NOW IT IS THREE YEARS LATER AT 89,000 MILES AND THE SAME PART NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY WANT US TO PAY 750 TO HAVE IT REPLACED. WE FILED A CASE WITH CHRYSLER AND THEY WANT US TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED FOR 89.00 AT THEIR DEALER AND THEN THEY WILL DISCUSS WHETHER THEY WILL HELP PAY FOR IT OR NOT. THERE ARE MANY OTHER PEOPLE ON THE WEB THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUES. OUR CAR WILL LIGHT UP ALL THE GEARS WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND WILL NOT SHIFT PROPERLY DUE TO THE ENGINE NOT UNDERSTANDING WHAT GEAR WE ARE IN. I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO WORRY THAT THEY FIXED IT AND HELPED US THIS TIME BUT IN 2-3 YEARS WE HAVE TO DO THIS ALL OVER AGAIN FOR THE SAME PART. THE GENTLEMAN MY HUSBAND FIRST TALKED TO AT THE DEALER WE CONSULTED BEFORE TALKING WITH CHRYSLER STATED THAT HE HAS ALSO REPLACED THIS SAME PIECE IN HIS CHRYSLER 300 TWICE. I HAVE ALSO SEEN ON THE CAR FORUMS THAT THE JEEP COMMANDER IS DOING THE SAME THING AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OUT THERE ABOUT THE 05 JEEP CHEROKEE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY CHRYSLER CONTINUES TO PUT THIS PART THAT IS OBVIOUSLY NOT WORKING IN THEIR VEHICLES. THIS IS CAUSING ISSUES FOR THE CARS AND I AM NOT CONVINCED I WANT ANOTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCT. THE GEAR SHIFT SHOULD NOT BE HAVING PARTS REPLACED. I HAVE BEEN AROUND MANY VEHICLES AND NEVER HAD THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY A RECALL OR SOMETHING HASN'T BEEN DONE ON THIS PARTICULAR PART. WHY WOULD THEY NOT FIND A NEW WAY TO DO THIS TYPE OF GEAR SHIFT THAT DOESN'T FALL APART IN TWO YEARS OF DRIVING. THIS IS A FAMILY VEHICLE. THIS IS NOT A RACE CAR OR EVEN A 4WD. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO (N/A). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE METAL PIECE THAT COVERED THE GEAR SHIFT BOX BROKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE COLUMN SHIFT ASSEMBLY BOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,039.
2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, 42275 MILES, THE DOOR PANELS ON THE REAR DOORS ARE BROKEN AT THE DOOR HANDLES AND THE DOORS CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE. ADDITIONALLY, BOTH FRONT DOOR PANELS ARE CRACKED AT THE DOOR HANDLES AND MORE THAN LIKELY WILL BREAK SOON. HAVE INQUIRED WITH LOCAL BODY SHOP AND NEW DOOR PANELS ARE APPROXIMATELY $450 EACH AND ARE OF THE SAME DESIGN. *TR
2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. BOTH FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER DOOR PANELS HAVE BROKEN AND CRACKED. THE PFRONT PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE ON THE INSIDE IS NOW INOPERABLE. IT IS NOW PERMANENTLY INOPERABLE ON A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 31,000 MILES ON IT. SO FAR THE DEALER CLAIMS NO RECALLS ARE AVAILABLE AND THE PRICE TO REPLACE IS ABOUT 800 PER DOOR. *TR
2005 JEEP CHEROKEE RACK STEERING WENT OUT ALREADY AND OBVIOUSLY JEEP WON'T BACK THIS FOR ITS NOT UNDER "WARRANTY". BUT WHEN YOU CALL THEY SAY IF YOU GET IT FIXED BY ONE OF OUR GUYS YOU "MAY" QUALIFY FOR SPECIAL FINANCING?...WHAT IS THAT ALL ABOUT?..."SPECIAL FINANCING"...SO THEY CAN MAKE MORE MONEY OFF YOU?...THIS JEEP IS LITERALLY DRIVEN ABOUT 14 MILES A DAY 5 DAYS A WEEK ON THE HIGHWAY TO AND FROM WORK. THE REST OF THE TIME WE DRIVE OUR CAR TO SAVE ON GAS. I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THE RACK STEERING WOULD GO OUT ALREADY!!. $1088 DOLLARS LATER. A VEHICLE THIS YOUNG SHOULD NOT HAVE STEERING PROBLEMS. I OWN A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. THE HANDLE ON THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR BROKE FROM THE DOOR PANEL. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE A PERSON SITTING IN THE REAR SEAT COULD NOT EXIT THE VEHICLE. I WAS FORCED TO REPLACE THE DOOR PANEL BECAUSE OF THIS SAFETY CONCERN. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR PANELS ARE NOW CRACKED AROUND THE HANDLES AND IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THEY BREAK COMPLETELY. I WILL THEN BE FORCED TO REPLACE THOSE DOOR PANELS AS WELL. I DON'T FEEL THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THESE DOOR PANELS BECAUSE CHRYSLER DESIGNED THEM POORLY. OCCUPANTS IN THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE TRAPPED INSIDE THE VEHICLE IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. APPARENTLY, THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. IT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR NUMEROUS PEOPLE THAT OWN THIS SAME VEHICLE. THIS SHOULD DEFINITELY BE CONSIDERED A RECALL AND CHRYSLER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE!!!!!! *TR

SOMETIMES WHEN I'M JUST IDLING THE ENGINE WILL FLUXUATE BETWEEN 400 AND 1000 RPM'S AND THEN IT WILL STALL. 2. WHILE DRIVING I WILL LOSE ALL ELECTRICAL POWER. THE LIGHTS WILL FLASH AND THE DASH WILL DING AND CLICK. THE TACHOMETER AND SPEEDOMETER WILL GO TO 0 THE ENGINE WILL REMAIN RUNNING WHILE THIS HAPPENS. IF THE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF AND RE-STARTED THE PROBLEM SEEM TO VANISH. 3. OUT OF NOWHERE THE JEEP WON'T START. ALL I GET IS A CLICKING NOISE WHEN I TURN THE IGNITION. THE DASH LIGHTS UP AND THE LIGHTS WORK AND THE RADIO WORKS. THE BATTERY TESTS OUT FINE. I'VE HAD THE BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, AND STARTED REPLACED BUT THE ISSUE REMAINS. THE PLASTIC CRACKS, CRUMBLES, AND DISINTEGRATES AROUND THE DOOR HANDLE AFTER ONLY A FEW (3-5) YEARS OF USE. MANY DOOR HANDLES ARE NO LONGER USABLE. THIS CREATES A FIRE SAFETY ISSUE AND A CRASH SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS CANNOT USE THE DOOR HANDLE TO ESCAPE FROM THE VEHICLE.
