TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE FRACTURED AND SHE WAS UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO REPAIR THEM AT HER OWN EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. THE CONSUMER STATED TO DATE, SHE HAS REPLACED THE LEFT REAR DOOR AT A COST OF $ 425. THE RIGHT REAR DOOR HAS BEEN INOPERABLE SINCE EARLY 2009. THE LEFT FRONT DOOR IS ALMOST INOPERABLE AND THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR IS SHOWING SIGNS OF BREAKING. THE LEFT FRON DOOR WINDOW REGULATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED, UPDATED 01/19/12
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, SHE NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FIVE TIMES. IN 2009, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS REPLACED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE MONTHS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT RECENTLY REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,994.
ALL INTERIOR DOOR PANELS ARE CRACKED AROUND THE DOOR HANDLES. THREE OUT OF FOUR DOOR HANDLES HAVE SNAPPED OFF AND THE VERY LAST ONE IS HANGING ON BY A THREAD. THE HANDLES SEEM TO BE ATTACHED TO THE ACTUAL DOOR PANEL WHICH IS COMPRISED OF HARD PLASTIC. THE DESIGN OF THE DOOR PANEL AND THE HANDLE BEING ATTACHED IS BAD AND A SAFETY ISSUE IF YOU CAN'T EXIT THE VEHICLE IF YOUR CAR DIES AND YOU HAVE NO POWER TO OPEN THE WINDOWS. ADDITIONALLY, IF YOU NEED TO FORCE THE DOORS OPEN FROM THE INSIDE DUE TO A WRECK, CAR ON FIRE, PANICKING ETC., 9X'S OUT OF TEN YOU DON'T HAVE HANDLES AND ANY WEIGHT OR PRESSURE TO REMAINING HANDLES IF ANY WHILE CAUSE THEM TO JUST SNAP OFF. MY CAR SMELLS OF GAS CONSTANTLY AND THE LIGHT COMES ON TO TELL ME TO CHECK THE GAS CAP. I EVENTUALLY REPLACED THE GAS CAP AFTER CHECKING IT ALL OF THE TIME AND NOW THE CAR JUST SMELLS OF GAS AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON SOMETIMES. I'VE HAD THE CAR CHECKED BY MECHANICS AND THE JEEP DEALER TO NO RESOLVE. THE CONSTANT GAS SMELLS GIVE ME BAD HEADACHES AS WELL AS CONCERN WHEN I'M DRIVING. *TR

THE CONTACT HAD TO PLAY WITH THE SWITCH TO GET THE LIGHTS TO TURN BACK ON. THE DEALER REPLACED AN INTEGRATED POWER MODULE BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FOUR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES WERE FRACTURED AND AS A RESULT, THREE OF THE DOORS WERE UNABLE TO BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD FAIL SIMULTANEOUSLY. HE WOULD HAVE TO USE THE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHT SWITCH UNTIL THE LIGHTS WOULD COME BACK ON. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS EXCLUDED FROM RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09E012000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. THE CURRENT WAS 49,000.
WHEN IT GOES BELOW 20 DEGREES F, THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSES SOMEONE SITTING IN IT WHEN THERE IS NO ONE THERE. THE AIRBAG LIGHT LIGHTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THE RED AIRBAG LIGHT LIGHTS. IF I PUSH DOWN AND RELEASE THE SEAT CUSHION, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT GOES OFF, THEN THE RED AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT GOES OFF. IN 30 SECONDS, IT ALL COMES BACK ON AND STARTS DINGING THE ALARM AGAIN. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR QUITE SOME TIME BUT MY JEEP/DODGE DEALER DOES NOT SEEM TO WANT TO HELP. *TR
I OWN A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. 3 OF THE 4 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKEN. THE 2 IN THE BACK SEAT ARE NOT FUNCTIONAL. YOU HAVE TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. YOU WILL FIND THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE DOOR HANDLES IN THE 2005-2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES. THIS A FACTORY DEFECT AND SHOULD BE REPLACED BY THE FACTORY. THERE HAS BEEN NO ABUSE TO THESE DOOR HANDLES, JUST REGULAR USE HAS CAUSED ALL THE BROKEN HANDLES. *TR
MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WILL NOT START SOMETIMES. EVERYTHING ELSE WILL SEEM TO BE WORKING FINE, BUT I GO TO START MY CAR AND I GET A CLICK, BUT NO CRANK. THE BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, STARTER, SOLENOID HAVE ALL BEEN TESTED, AND DO NOT SEEM TO BE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER JEEP OWNERS THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DOOR HANDLES HAD FRACTURED AND DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE DOOR HANDLES AND ADVISE THAT THE FAILURE WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE CONTACT SPOKE TO THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE DOOR HANDLES WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. WIRING HARNESS ON MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO BURNED. CHECKED ON INTERNET AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM ON THIS JEEP MODEL. DEALER WOULD NOT REPLACE OR ACKNOWLEDGE ISSUE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. HE STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND LOST POWER STEERING , AND BRAKES. HE HAD TIME TO DRIVE INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE; HOWEVER, AFTER A FEW MINUTES, HE ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND AFTER 24 HOURS THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. IN TWO MONTHS THIS HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 3 TIMES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE CONTACT HAS DONE EXTENSIVE RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THE FAILURE IS COMMON FOR HIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55000.
THE PROBLEM OF DEFECTIVE DOOR HANDLES STARTED WHEN THE CAR WAS ABOUT FOUR YEARS OLD AND HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THERE HAVE NOW BEEN TWO INCIDENTS OF DOOR HANDLES BREAKING OFF COMPLETELY AND THERE IS SOON TO BE A THIRD. AS OF NOW BOTH INSIDE DOOR HANDLES FOR BACK SEAT DOORS ARE COMPLETELY BROKEN OFF MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO EXIT THE BACK DOORS FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE UNLESS YOU OPEN THE WINDOW AND REACH THROUGH TO UNLOCK THE DOOR FROM OUTSIDE. THE VEHICLE HAS POWER WINDOWS MAKING IT EVEN MORE DIFFICULT TO EXIT THE REAR DOORS OF THE VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. THE DOOR HANDLE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE IS STILL FUNCTIONAL BUT IS BADLY CRACKED AND A PIECE OF PLASTIC HAS NOW FALLEN OFF. IT IS NOW VERY CLOSE TO BREAKING OFF. (IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL IT IS COMPLETELY BROKEN). THE MATERIAL THAT THESE DOOR HANDLES ARE MADE FROM IS OF VERY POOR QUALITY. I AM WORRIED THAT THE DRIVER'S DOOR HANDLE MAY BREAK NOW AND IN CASE OF A FIRE OR OTHER EMERGENCY THE DRIVER AND BACKSEAT PASSENGERS WILL BE UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE SAFELY. YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER OF SAFETY IS APPRECIATED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 60 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS AND INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS BEGAN FLICKERING ABNORMALLY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE COMPUTER CHIP IN AN ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THE FAILURE YET THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES DUE TO THE INTERMITTENT FAILURE YET THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
THE INTERIOR DOOR PANELS (ALL 4) AT THE HANDLE ARE CRACKING AND BREAKING. MANY TIMES THE DOORS HAVE TO BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE. I CONTACTED JEEP AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM, THAT I WAS THE ONLY PERSON TO REPORT IT. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE UNLIMITED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE PLASTIC SUPPORT DEVICE HAD BROKEN ON ALL FOUR DOORS. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $2,610. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,000.
3 OF THE 4 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES HAVE BROKEN OFF OUT OF THE HANDLE HOUSING. THE 2 BACK DOORS ARE UNABLE TO OPEN FROM THE INSIDE CREATING A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK. THE DRIVERS DOOR IS HANGING ON BY A THREAD. STILL OPERABLE BUT HANDLE HOUSING IS COMPLETELY BROKEN. EVEN NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR SHOULD NOT CAUSE THIS TYPE OF BREAKAGE ON SO MANY VEHICLES. CHRYSLER SHOULD STEP UP AND RECTIFY THIS ISSUE BEFORE DEATHS OCCUR AND LAWSUITS BEGIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES FRACTURED ON ALL FOUR DOORS. THE DOORS COULD ONLY OPEN FROM OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES AND PANELS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH 46560 MILES ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I ENCOUNTERED HEAVY TRAFFIC. TRAFFIC SLOWED DOWN TO A CRAWL SO I TURNED RIGHT TO CHANGE LANES. AS I TURNED, THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL FELL OFF MY VEHICLE AND I COULD NOT MOVE. THE UPPER BALL JOINT HAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE SOCKET. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND AM AWAITING A RESPONSE. *TR
HIGH MOUNTED CENTER BRAKE LIGHT, WIRING MALFUNCTION,COMPLETE LIGHT GOES OUT , BUT NO WARNING ON THE DASH BECAUSE THE VEHICLE THINKS ITS STILL WORKING, MOVE THE WIRES IT WORKS BUT THEN STOPS WORKING, I'VE NOTICED IT ON OTHER CHRYSLER TYPE PRODUCTS . EX. DURANGO. *TR
ALL FOUR INSIDE DOOR HANDLES HAVE CRUMBLED AND FALLEN COMPLETELY APART, A POTENTIAL FOR A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE MAY OCCUR. BASED ON MY RESEARCH THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON FOR 2005-2007 JEEPS AND THE COST TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS EXCESSIVE, A NATIONAL RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. *TR
MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED HAS 68K MILES AND 2 OUT OF THE 4 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKEN. THE OTHER 2 THAT AREN'T BROKEN ARE CRACKED AND COULD POSSIBLY BREAK ANYTIME. I AM FEARFUL THAT IN THE EVENT THAT SOMETHING WERE TO HAPPEN TO THE BATTERY IN THE VEHICLE DURING AN ACCIDENT, MY TWO CHILDREN IN THE REAR SEATS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT. MY VEHICLE IS 6 YEARS OLD BUT HAS VERY LITTLE MILES ON IT AND THE HANDLES SHOULDN'T HAVE BROKEN SO EASILY. THERE HAS BEEN NO ABUSE TO THE HANDLES AT ALL. THERE IS NO AFTERMARKET REPAIRS AVAILABLE FOR THIS VEHICLE THAT I CAN FIND AND THE ONLY REMEDY IS TO PURCHASE NEW DOOR PANELS. LIKE EVERYONE ELSE IN THE USA, I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO REPLACE SOMETHING LIKE THAT, THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE BROKEN IN THE FIRST PLACE. *TR
DRIVING HOME FROM WORK (55-65 MPH) ME HEAD LIGHT WENT OFF, THEY THEN PROCEEDED TO BLINK ON AND OFF. FROM TIME TO TIME THE HEAD LIGHTS STILL BLINK OFF AND ON BUT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO RECREATE THIS SITUATION. THE DASH LIGHTS STILL CONTINUE TO BLINK OFF AND ON ALL THE TIME. CHRYSLER WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM AND I KNOW OF THREE OTHER VEHICLES THIS HAPPENS TO AS WELL. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANYONE FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH VEHICLE (SO I HAVE BEEN TOLD). *TR
2005 JEEP CHEROKEE WHILE IDLING JUMPED FORM PARK TO REVERSE, HITTING ANOTHER PARKED CAR, ALSO KNOCKED THE OWNER TO THE GROUND WHILE TRYING TO STOP THE VEHICLE. *TR
STRONG GAS SMELL. ON START UP AND CONTINUES WHILE IN MOTION. WHILE HAVING OIL CHANGES AND OTHER MAINTENANCE OVER THE YEARS, HAVE COMPLAINED AND HAD TECHNICIANS TO CHECK WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THE PROBLEM. NOTHING HAS EVER BEEN FOUND BY TECHS. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS AFTER YEARS OF HAVING IT LOOKED AT. I NOW HAVE 75000. MILES ON IT. THIS IS A CONCERN AND IT IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR
NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO FAILURE- NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS AND DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANY SIMILAR PROBLEM BEFORE. HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING OR FLICKER ON AND OFF. OCCURRED FREQUENTLY AFTER CAR RUNNING FOR MORE THAN 10 MINUTES WITH LIGHTS ON. FIXED PROBLEM BY HAVING THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH REPLACED AT A COST OF $335.00. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FOUR DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKEN BECAUSE THEY WERE MADE OUT OF PLASTIC. THE DOOR HANDLES DISPLAYED SMALL CRACKS AND EVENTUALLY BEGAN TO BREAK OFF IN PIECES. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND REQUEST THAT THEY TAKE PICTURES OF THE HANDLE AND SEND THEM TO HEADQUARTERS. SHE WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT WHEN THE PHOTOS ARE RECEIVED SOMEONE FROM HEADQUARTERS WOULD CONTACT HER. NO ONE HAS NOTIFIED THE CONTACT WITHIN THREE WEEKS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS ALL LIGHT UP AT THE SAME TIME. SPEEDOMETER AND RPM INDICATOR DROP TO ZERO. THEN ALL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS GO OUT COMPLETELY. THIS KEEPS OCCURRING AT 10SEC TO 10 MINUTE INTERVALS. VEHICLE HAS TO BE STOPPED, AND TURNED OFF FOR THE PROBLEM TO GO AWAY. NEXT DAY, SAME THING ALL OVER AGAIN. A QUICK SEARCH OF THE INTERNET REVEALS THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, AT A COST OF HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS. THE DEALER TELLS ME THIS IS NOT A KNOWN PROBLEM. THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL FOR THE 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FOR THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. IN 9 YEARS CHRYSLER HAS STILL NOT MANAGED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY DENY THERE IS A PROBLEM ON MY VEHICLE, BUT ACCEPT THAT THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM EXISTS ON THE 2014 MODEL? THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR WHICH CHRYSLER SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. A RECALL IS REQUIRED TO THE THOUSANDS OF JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES PRIOR TO THE 2014 MODEL THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

LAST YEAR I BEGAN NOTICING THAT PLASTIC PIECES WERE FALLING FROM THE BACK COVER OF THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES SINCE I CONSIDER THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE HANDLES ARE COMPLETELY LOOSE AND I HAVE TO STICK OUT MY ARM TO OPEN THE DOORS FROM THE OUTSIDE. I DON'T EVEN WANT TO IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAPPEN IF IN AN ACCIDENT. THE COST OF REPAIRING THIS IS APPROXIMATELY $2,000 SINCE IT IS NECESSARY TO PURCHASE THE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL. *TR
2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. ALL 4 INTERIOR PLASTIC DOOR HANDLE MOUNTINGS HAVE CRACKED. THE TWO REAR HANDLES HAVE FALLEN OFF COMPLETELY. CHRYSLER SAYS THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
I REPLACED THE DRIVE DOOR HANDLE AFTER IT CRACKED IN 2009. NOW THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF. IT IS NOW A SAFETY VIOLATION AS MY DAUGHTER IS UNABLE TO EXIT OUT THE DOOR DUE TO A BROKEN HANDLE. AGAIN THE PASSENGER DOOR IS CRACKED AT THE HANDLE. THE COUNT IS NOW THREE OF THE FOUR DOORS REQUIRING REPLACEMENT. I TAKE GREAT CARE OF MY CAR AND THIS IS A CLEAR SAFETY VIOLATION AS THE DOORS WERE MADE WITH SUBSTANDARD MATERIALS. I PARKED MY VEHICLE IN A DRIVEWAY AND TOOK THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. I OPENED THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR AND PUT MY SON IN THE BACKSEAT. THE VEHICLE GEARSHIFT LEVER WAS PUSHED OUT OF PARK AND INTO REVERSE WITH MY 3 YEAR OLD SON IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS 20 FEET AND CRASHED INTO A TRUCK. IF THE TRUCK WASN'T THERE IT WOULD HAVE ROLLED EVEN FURTHER INTO THE POND. I'M JUST HOPING THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE, IT COULD'VE KILLED SOMEONE. I AM CONTACTING MY DEALERSHIP TO TRY TO GET THE ISSUE RESOLVED. ACCORDING TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL THE BRAKE TRANSMISSION INTERLOCK SYSTEM FAILED ON MY VEHICLE. YOU SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MOVE THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER IN THE P (PARK) POSITION WHEN THE IGNITION SWITCH IS IN THE LOCK POSITION. TO MOVE THE GEAR SELECTOR LEVER OUT OF THE P (PARK) POSITION, THE IGNITION SWITCH MUST BE TURNED TO THE ON POSITION, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL MUST BE DEPRESSED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT A FACTORY DEFECT AND THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THE DEALERS STATEMENT AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 61,000.

IRONICALLY THIS CAR IS TYPICALLY ONLY USED BY ONE PERSON WHO USES THAT DOOR HANDLE. THE CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000 MILES. IT HAS BECOME A SERIOUS CONCERN FOR OUR FAMILY. SOMETIMES SWITCHING TO OFF AND RESTARTING OR HITTING A BUMP ACTIVATES BLOWER. AT ONE TIME OPENING AND CLOSING THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT ACTIVATED BLOWER BUT NOT ANY LONGER. IN CASE OF FIRE OR CRASH, YOU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR TO GET OUT OF A DEADLY SITUATION, DUE TO CRACKING AND CRUMBLING PLASTIC THAT WAS USED IN THE DOOR PANELS AND HOLD THE DOOR HANDLE. IN MANY CASES 2 INCH LARGE HOLES ARE NEXT TO THE DOOR HANDLES DUE TO PLASTIC FAILURE, AND IN SOME CASES THE ENTIRE DOOR HANDLE IS NO LONGER CONNECTED TO PLASTIC AND IS INOPERABLE. THIS APPEARS TO BE THE RESULT OF A BAD MIX OF PLASTIC COMPOUNDS, AND/OR IMPROPER PRESSURES/TEMPERATUES IN INJECTION MOLDING, DURING THE ORIGINAL DOOR PANEL MANUFACTURING. CHRYSLER HAS SUPPLIER RECOVERY OPTIONS TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR/REPLACEMENT, BUT WILL NOT ALLOW IT UNLESS EXCESSIVE PRESSURE IS PUT UPON THEM, INSTEAD PUSHING CONSUMERS TO PAY FOR THE $2200.00 REPAIR ON THEIR OWN. *TR

THE ONLY WAY I CAN GET IT TO SHIFT IS TO MANUALLY SHIFT GEARS. I HAVE HAD IT INTO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES AND THEY CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER (CASE #[XXX]) AND JEEP (CASE #[XXX]) AND HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO RECEIVE ANY REPAIR ASSISTANCE EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. SINCE THE DEFECT IS IN THE HOUSING UNIT OF THE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL, THE COST TO REPLACE THE HOUSING IS PROHIBITIVE TO MOST OWNERS SINCE THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL MUST BE REPLACED. THE DEALER STATES IT IS ~$800 PER DOOR TO FIX. DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUE OF BEING UNABLE TO EXIT THE BACK SEAT AREA FROM THE INSIDE WITHOUT DIFFICULTY, I AM FEARFUL OF ALLOWING MY 14YR DAUGHTER, GRANDKIDS, OR ANYONE ELSE OF RIDING IN THE BACK SEAT. IF AN ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR, THEY WOULD BE UNABLE TO SAFELY EXIT THE CAR FROM THE INSIDE. THE DAMAGE TO THE DOOR HANDLES AND/OR FRAMES ARE NOT DUE TO NORMAL "WEAR AND TEAR" OR ANY OUTSIDE CIRCUMSTANCE.
