TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 3 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO RESPOND. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. AFTER THE INCIDENT THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT SHE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 14V104000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 14V154000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR WITH MY 18MONTH OLD SON IN THE VEHICLE THE BRAKE STOPPED WORKING. SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST HER WAY TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE POWER BRAKEBOOSTER WENT. THIS COST US $500 TO FIX BECAUSE BOTH THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALERSHIP SAID ITS NOT COVERED ON EXTENDED WARRANTY AS ITS "WARE AND TEAR". IN MY OPINION IF THE BREAKS OF A 2012 CAR FAIL TO WORK THIS IS NOT WARE AND TEAR BUT A VERY SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS DEFECT WITH THE CAR. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN WITH A MUCH WORSE OUTCOME. *TR

HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
MY 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO HAD A BRAKE PROBLEM AND THE SERVICE DEPT AT NIELSEN JEEP IN EAST HANOVER, NJ, DIAGNOSED IT A BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD OCCUR IN A WELL-MAINTAINED 2 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. THE SERVICE MANAGER (WHO WAS VERY NICE AND COURTEOUS) EXPLAINED THAT THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE (THE BRAKES COULD FAIL) BUT THAT THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE. IT IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER AND THERE IS NO ANTICIPATED DELIVERY DATE. THE DEALER DENIED MY REQUEST FOR A LOANER CAR SO I FILED CASE # 24644312 WITH CHRYSLER TO APPEAL FOR A LOANER/RENTAL CAR. CHRYSLER ESCALATED MY REQUEST TO THE "HIGHEST LEVEL" BUT THEN ALSO DENIED THE LOANER/RENTAL CAR. I NEED MY CAR TO GET TO WORK. WHILE I CAN ASK SOMEONE DRIVE ME TO WORK FOR A FEW DAYS, IT IS UNREASONABLE TO DO SO FOR AN UNDETERMINED PERIOD OF TIME. I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO PICK UP MY CAR AND CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT UNTIL THE PART COMES IN. I HOPE THE BRAKES DO NOT FAIL IN THE MEANTIME. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THERE WERE ALSO 3 OTHER JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES IN THE SHOP AWAITING THE BRAKE BOOSTER PART. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE THIS IS AN UNSAFE CIRCUMSTANCE AND AS I HAVE LEARNED, THIS IS NOT ISOLATED TO ONLY MY VEHICLE. MY HOPE IS THAT CHRYSLER JEEP WILL PROVIDE AN ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION OPTION TO OWNERS, SUCH AS A LOANER CAR OR RENTAL REIMBURSEMENT, WHILE THEY ARE AWAITING THE PART. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A USED 12 GRAND CHEROKEE FROM STARLING CHEVROLET BUICK IN ST. CLOUD, FL. I DID A TON OF RESEARCH AND HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS PARTICULAR JEEP FOR MANY MONTHS. OUR JEEP IS IN IMMACULATE CONDITION AND THE CAR FAX LISTED ONLY TWO MINOR RECALLS, THE SUN VISOR WIRING AND A BRAKE COMPONENT; NOTHING ELSE. I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT A 35 DAYS AGO AND BACK HOME AND NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER. ABOUT 14 DAYS AGO MY JEEP RANDOMLY STALLED WHILE I WAS TAKING A LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF ANOTHER VEHICLE (AT A SAFE DISTANCE). THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD (NO POWER STEERING) AND COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, PUT JEEP IN PARK, AND STARTED AGAIN. I WAS COMPLETELY BAFFLED WHY IT DID THIS AND TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE UNDER MY 3 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY. MY DEALER WAS UNABLE TO GET ANY ERROR OR WARNING SIGN ON THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM WHATSOEVER. MY JEEP HAS STALLED 2 OTHER TIMES WHILE DRIVING AND EACH TIME I TOOK IT BACK AND THE SAME THING, IT WOULD NOT STALL ON THE MECHANIC AND NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I WAS LUCKY TO TALK TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER TONIGHT AND HE EXPLAINED THAT HE HAD THE TIPM REPLACED 2 TIMES, YES 2 TIMES IN THIS JEEP AND AFTER THE 2ND TIME THE JEEP KEPT STALLING ON HIM. MY WIFE AND I ARE TERRIFIED THAT WE PURCHASED A ?LEMON? WITHOUT HAVING ANY KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THIS AT ALL. THE CAR FAX DID NOT SHOW THIS INFORMATION, MY JEEP DEALER SHOWED ME ALL THE WARRANTY HISTORY THROUGH CHRYSLER AND THEY SINCERELY WANT TO HELP US. HOWEVER, IF THE FAULTY TIPM WILL NOT EVEN SHOW A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THEN HOW DO THEY WARRANTY A PART? THEY CANT (OR REFUSE) AND THAT IS THE LAWSUIT. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE WAS PERSISTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 6,000.

I BROUGHT MY CHEROKEE INTO DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED IT FOR A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE JEEP WAS LOOKED AT AND THE LEAD MECHANIC PROCEEDED TO TELL ME IT WOULD NEED A CYLINDER HEAD. I BOUGHT THIS JEEP ON 11/7/11 AND COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT I WAS HEARING. AFTER READING MANY FORUMS AND CHRYSLER'S COMMENTS; WHICH THEY DON'T TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS CRITICAL ISSUE BY PUTTING SOME FAULT ON THE CUSTOMER. BRAND NEW VEHICLE WHICH I PAID A GOOD AMOUNT FOR AND AFTER 20,000 YOU HAVE TO RIP MY TRUCK APART AND NOW I HOPE FOR THE BEST. I FEEL THIS IS JUST A BAND AIDE TO COVER THE MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS 3.6-L ENGINE. TO ME NOW IT'S AS IF I BOUGHT IT USED. IF I TRY TO TRADE THE JEEP IN I'M SURE IT HAS DEPRECIATED AND THE SAME IF I WAS TO SELL TO A PRIVATE OWNER. I TRULY FEEL I WAS TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF BY CHRYSLER AND TO PAY THAT AMOUNT FOR A VEHICLE WHICH CLEARLY HAS MECHANICAL PROBLEMS, WELL TO ME, THAT IS JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE. I KNOW FIRES UNDER THE HOOD ARE BEING INVESTIGATED, I AM VERY CONCERNED ON THIS ISSUE AS WELL. I THINK MY CHEROKEE SHOULD BE WARRANTED FOR THE LIFE OF THE CHEROKEE BY CHRYSLER DUE TO THE MECHANICAL PROBLEM RETURNING AFTER ANOTHER 20,000 OR 25,000 MILES. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE. DEALER STATES "LOW ASSIST". JEEP HAS NO STOPPING POWER AT ALL, PEDAL IS HARD AND VEHICLE JUST KEEPS ROLLING. PARTS ARE NATIONALLY BACKORDERED. FROM WHAT I'M READING ONLINE THIS IS A LARGE SCALE PROBLEM. MOISTURE IS GETTING IN THE BOOSTER AND FREEZING, CAUSING BRAKES TO FAIL. I HAVE A CASE NUMBER OPEN WITH JEEP. *TR

MILLER CHRYSLER DODGE RAM FIAT DENVER (2727 S HAVANA ST, DENVER, CO 80014 (720) 907 1243) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 121,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
WHILE DRIVING ON AN EXPRESSWAY, THERE WAS A BACKUP OF TRAFFIC AND I WENT TO DEPRESS THE BRAKES. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SO STIFF IT COULD NOT BE DEPRESSED AND THE BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE. I KEPT MY FOOT N THE BRAKE AND STILL THERE WAS NO BRAKING. I LET UP MY FOOT AND DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN AND FINALLY GOT THE BRAKES TO WORK. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. I DID CONTACT MY DEALER AND TOOK THE JEEP IN FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHILE ROAD TESTING AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE STALLED. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED, IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY THREE ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER REGARDING THE LIFT FAILURE WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,000.
I STARTED MY VEHICLE UP ON A COLD MORNING, -5 DEGREES. BROUGHT VEHICLE UP TO 40MPH, APPLIED THE BRAKES, NOTICED THE PEDAL WAS STIFF. BRAKES WEREN'T WORKING, AND DASHBOARD BRAKE WARNING LIGHT WAS ON. MANAGED TO STOP AND PARK VEHICLE. BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP LAST NIGHT (2/14/14) WHERE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH BAD BRAKE BOOSTER. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION ONLINE, BRAKE BOOSTERS WERE AFFECTED BY COLD WHETHER ALL OVER THE NORTHEAST PART OF THE COUNTRY. VEHICLE WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STOP. SERVICE MANAGER SEEMED FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM AND REPORTED THAT PARTS WERE BEING ORDERED FROM THE MANUFACTURER. I FEEL OBLIGATED TO REPORT THIS SITUATION WITH THE HOPE THAT SOMETHING WILL BE DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR
I CURRENTLY LEASE A 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO AND THE OTHER DAY MY WIFE AND SON WERE DRIVING THE CAR AND THE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED. THEY WOULD NOT DEPRESS EVEN AT 5-10 MPH AND IF COMPLETELY SLAMMED TO THE FLOOR THE ABS WOULD PUMP BAKE FIGHTING THE BRAKE PRESSURE. THEY WENT THROUGH A RED RIGHT AND LUCKILY WERE NOT HURT. LATER THE BRAKES BEGIN WORKING AND WE DROPPED IT OFF AT THE SERVICE CENTER. ONCE THERE THEY TEST DROVE IT AND ALMOST CRASHED AS THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK. THEY SAID IT NEEDS A NEW BRAKE BOOSTER, BUT THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER AND THERE ARE ACTUALLY 3 OTHER CARS AT THAT SERVICE STATION WHICH NEEDS THE SAME PART. I HAVE READ A COUPLE POSTS ON VARIOUS WEBSITES WITH PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I WAS WONDERING IF OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE? (ON ANOTHER NOTE NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO HELP US WITH EITHER A LOANER CAR OR PAYING FOR A RENTAL AS THE CAR HAS 38K MILES SO TECHNICALLY OUT OF WARRANTY..SO THAT'S BEEN FUN). THANKS. *TR

THE CONTACT HAD ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE PARTS NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR WERE NOT AVAILABLE. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT AT THE TIME OF THE FOLLOWING INCIDENT HAD APPROXIMATELY 48000 MILES ON IT. DURING OUR FIRST COLD WEATHER IN JANUARY 2014 I TOOK THE CAR OUT AND WHEN I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES I HAD TO STEP ON THE PEDAL WITH ALL MY STRENGTH TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER CAR AND THEN HAD TO STEER THE CAR OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID A ACCIDENT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER AND THAT THE BOOSTER HAD A FAULTY DESIGN THAT ALLOWED WATER TO GET INTO IT CAUSING FAILURE IN FREEZING TEMPERATURE AND IS NOT DETECTABLE UNLESS THE TEMPERATURE DROPS BELOW FREEZING WHICH IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD. I CONTACTED TO JEEP TO ORDER THE PART AND FOUND OUT THAT IT IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER DUE TO A EXTREMELY HIGH VOLUME OF PARTS FAILURES IN BOTH JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND DODGE DURANGO TRUCKS. I BARELY AVOIDED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IN MY TRUCK DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW BY JEEP THAT THEY REFUSE TO CORRECT WHICH WILL LEAD TO A UNSUSPECTING PERSON BEING IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT BECAUSE JEEP REFUSES TO CORRECT A KNOWN PROBLEM. *TR

SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THE BRAKE RECALL NOTICE WAS ISSUED TO THE MEDIA. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED MY LOCAL CHRYSLER/JEEP DEALER TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE RECALL. ON 11/11/13, I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THE STATE INSPECTION AND REPORTED THE ISSUE OF THE CAR NOT STARTING / STALLING OUT TO HUFFINES JEEP IN PLANO, TX. HUFFINES DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY TIPM. THE REPLACEMENT TIPM WAS INSTALLED ON 11/25/13. ON 11/29/13, I NOTICED THAT EVERY TIME I USE MY RIGHT BLINKER, MY FOG LIGHTS FLASH. CAR STILL DOES NOT START/STAY RUNNING AFTER STARTING AND IT HAS TAKEN UP TO 8 TRIES TO GET IT GOING. EVEN IF IT SOUNDS LIKE THE CAR STARTED, IT WILL SOMETIMES DIE AFTER RUNNING A FEW SECONDS. I'VE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE DOORS DO NOT ALWAYS LOCK WHEN I PRESS THE BUTTON ON THE DOOR HANDLE. THIS IS ALSO RELATED TO THE TIPM. ADDITIONALLY, ON 11/29/13, THE DASH LIGHT CAME ON NOTIFYING ME THAT THE KEY FOB BATTERY WAS LOW. I REPLACED THE KEY FOB BATTERY THAT DAY BUT THAT HAD NO IMPACT ON THE GREATER PROBLEMS OF THE CAR NOT STARTING AND THE FOG LIGHTS FLASHING WHEN THE RIGHT SIGNAL IS ACTIVATED. ON APRIL-2014 I CALLED AGAIN JEEP REPRESENTATIVE IN PR AND EXPLAINED ALL THAT WAS HAPPENING, HE THEN SET UP ANOTHER SERVICE ON CHRYSLER/JEEP DEALER PUERTO RICO AND ON 04/21/2014 THE DEALER REPRESENTATIVE TOOK MY CAR FOR REPAIR AND SAID THEY CHANGED AGAIN THE SHOCK ABSORBERS (REAR) FOR THE THIRD TIME AND ALSO CHANGED ANOTHER PIECE TO FIX THE FRONT NOISE. AGAIN FOR 2 WEEKS THE REAR NOISE DISAPPEARED AND NOW RETURNED LOUDER AND ALSO ON THE FRONT OF THE CAR MAKES A SNAP NOISE EVERY TIME I START THE CAR AND SOMETIMES WHEN I MAKE TURNS (LEFT AND RIGHT). MY WARRANTY EXPIRES ON 28/FEB/2015 AND IT SEEMS CHRYSLER/JEEP IS JUST PUSHING IT UNTIL I HIT THIS DATE AND NO LONGER BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE DEFECT WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND NO ESTIMATED TIME TO RECEIVE THE PARTS COULD BE GIVEN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
JEEP (AND ALL CHRYSLER PRODUCTS) HAVE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE TIPM MODULE (WHICH STANDS FOR TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE). THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS WITH THE TIPM MODULE HAVE BEEN NOTED BY OWNERS OF AFFECTED JEEP/CHRYSLER VEHICLES (A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH WILL EVIDENCE SAME). THE HIGH FAILURE RATE OF THE SUBJECT PART HAS LEFT COUNTLESS FAMILIES STRANDED WHEN THEIR CARS WON'T START AND HAS ALSO LED TO VEHICLES STALLING FOR NO REASON. THIS PROBLEM OBVIOUSLY POSES A DANGER TO OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES, ESPECIALLY FAMILIES TRANSPORTING YOUNG CHILDREN. I AM WRITING TO YOU ABOUT AN AREA OF CONCERN REGARDING MY 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND. FOR NO REASON I HAVE A CRACK IN MY WINDSHIELD WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED. THIS CRACK EXTENDS VERTICALLY FROM THE TOP CENTER OF THE WINDSHIELD AROUND THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AND THEN EXTENDS HORIZONTALLY THE REMAINDER OF THE WAY. I UNDERSTAND CRACKS HAPPEN, THOUGH WHEN I DID SOME SEARCHING AROUND THE INTERNET, I NOTICE THAT THIS IS FAR FROM AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. I HAVE FOUND DOZENS OF THREADS ON THE SAME TOPIC...AND NOT JUST A CRACK THAT APPEARS FOR NO REASON, BUT ALL THESE CRACKS ARE IN THE SAME LOCATION. THIS IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. AS WE ALL KNOW THE WINDSHIELD IS ONE OF THE MOST DOMINANT SAFETY FEATURES ON A VEHICLE AND IT IS CLEAR THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE THAT IS CAUSING THESE CRACKS, LIKELY A STRUCTURAL ISSUE WITH THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT AN ISSUE WITH A VEHICLE COMPROMISING THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE OF A CAR ISN'T TO BE TAKEN LIKELY AND WARRANTS INVESTIGATION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,116.

THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE MANUFACTURER ONLY PROVIDED ONE REPLACEMENT PART EVERY FOURTEEN DAYS AND THE CONTACT HAD TO BE PLACED ON A WAITING LIST. THE MANUFACTURER VERIFIED THAT THE DALERSHIP WAS ONLY PROVIDED ONE REPLACEMENT PART EVERY FOURTEEN DAYS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 16,500. LI
