DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT NON-FUNCTIONAL AND WILL NOT RETRACT. FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE SEAT BELT IS STARTING TO SHOW SIMILAR ISSUES. DRIVER'S SIDE PLASTIC PIECE CRACKED/BROKEN WORSE THAN PASSENGER'S SIDE UP NEAR WHERE SEATBELT GOES INTO PILLAR. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN DRIVER'S SIDE SEATBELT FAILED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEAD RESTRAINT DETACHED FROM THE SEAT. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CALLED LEN STOLER CHRYSLER DODGE AND JEEP AT (410) 876-8800 (LOCATED AT 1001 BALTIMORE BLVD, WESTMINSTER, MD 21157) WHERE AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
I WAS SITTING IN THE VEHICLE PARKED NOT RUNNING. THE PASSENGER SIDE ACTIVE HEAD REST DISENGAGED AND HIT MY DAUGHTER IN LAW IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. THE CAR WAS NOT MOVING NOR WAS THE CAR EVEN RUNNING. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD TAKE A LOOK AT BECAUSE AFTER REVIEW APPARENTLY THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING A LOT. CHRYSLER WILL NOT HELP IN ANYWAY FOR ME TO FIX THIS AND THIS IS IT $830 REPAIR. IF THIS HAPPENS WHEN SOMEONE IS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD SOMEONE COULD BE FATALLY INJURED AND SOMEONE ELSE COULD BE INJURED AS WELL POSSIBLY IN ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD MAKE GOOD ON.
MY 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE RECENTLY HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. THE ERROR CODE IS "P0520 - ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SENSOR". JEEP HAS A SERVICE BULLITEN OUT FOR THIS BEING THAT IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND TO REPLACE WITH A REVISED PART. HOWEVER, THAT IS ONLY COVERDD UNDER WARRANTY. OTHERWISE, IT IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR DUE TO THE LABOR INVOLVED. THERE IS MULTIPLE OCCURANCES OF THIS AS I HAVE SEEN IN JEEP FORUMS AND WONDERING HOW THIS IS EVEN ALLOWED? IF JEEP IS AWARE OF A FAULTY PART, HOW CAN THEY GET AWAY WITH NOT RECALLING THIS? AND PUTTING THE EXPENSE ON THEIR CONSUMERS? I KNOW THIS DOES NOT INVOLVE SAFETY DIRECTLY BUT THIS DOES NOT SEEM ETHICAL TO ME. IS THERE A WAY AN INVESTIGATION CAN BE DONE ON THIS? THIS OCCURED WHEN STARTING MY ENGINE AND THE LIGHT CAME ON. THE OIL PRESSURE READING IN THE DASH IS CLEARLY NOT READING CORRECTLY.
VEHICLE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON - REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER STARTED EVEN THOUGH SWITCH WAS OFF, POWER STEERING FAILED AND ENGINE SHUTOFF WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREET, HORN BEEPING INTERMITTENTLY WHETHER DRIVING OR NOT. SEVERAL MESSAGES DISPLAYED FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS -ECM LOST COMMUNICATION AND OTHER MSGS I COULDN'T GET BECAUSE THEY ONLY FLASHED ON THE SCREEN. KEYFOB BATTERY LOW EVEN THOUGH I JUST PUT IN A NEW BATTERY.
THE JEEP WAS STATIONARY, STARTED, PUT INTO NEUTRAL, PUT INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE AND IT LOCKED INTO IT. UNABLE TO GET IT OUT OF 4 WHEEL DRIVE . DEALER SAYS ITS TRANSMISSION SENSOR AND CLUTCH ON TRANSFER CASE.
WE THOUGHT THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK, WHEN IN FACT IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. THIS CAUSED THE CAR TO ROLL FORWARD AND COLLIDE WITH A VEH. PARKED IN FRONT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE SERVICE SHIFTER WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO STOCKTON DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM (LOCATED AT 3333 AUTO CENTER CIR, STOCKTON, CA 95212, (209) 956-1920) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT A FAILURE CODE COULD NOT BE LOCATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LODI CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (LOCATED AT 1255 BECKMAN RD, LIDI, CA 95240, (209) 263-3999) WHERE THIRTEEN CODES WERE FOUND, BUT NOT A FAILURE CODE. ALL THIRTEEN CODES WERE RESET. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE STALLED, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS OPERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS TOWED BACK TO LODI CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE ACTIVE HEAD REST DEPLOYED INAPPROPRIATELY AND FOR NO REASON WITH NO VEHICLE IMPACT WHILE PARKED INSIDE MY GARAGE. THE PLASTIC TABS ARE BROKEN AND THE HEADREST CANNOT BE APPROPRIATELY RESET AS IT IS DESIGNED TO DO. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT, THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF POSTS ONLINE WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT, DEALERS REFUSE TO REPAIR OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY. MY PARTICULAR CASE DID NOT RESULT IN INJURY OR CRASH, HOWEVER IF THE HEADREST DEPLOYED HITTING THE DRIVER WHILE AT HIGH SPEEDS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR INJURY.
CALL STALLED DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE ALTERNATOR, WHICH WAS SUBJECT TO RECALL. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT, SO I JUST DROPPED MY CAR OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP PER CHRYSLER CORP. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE ALTERNATOR AND FOUND THAT THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A CHARGE OF 350 DOLLARS. I INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE MESSAGE CENTER ON THE CAR INDICATED THAT THE CAR WAS ENTERING "BATTER SAVER MODE" AS IT SHUTDOWN. THE MANUAL FOR THE VEHICLE INDICATES THAT THE VEHICLE ENTERS THIS MODE WHEN THE BATTERY IS NOT BEING CHARGED, THE PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THE ALTERNATOR. I REQUESTED THAT THE DEALERSHIP REPLACE THE BATTERY AS ITS DEPLETION WAS DUE TO A FAULTY ALTERNATOR, THEY DECLINED. THEY STATED THAT ALTHOUGH THE ALTERNATOR WAS FAULTY IT DID NOT DO ANY DAMAGE TO THE BATTERY.
POWER STEERING FAILURE: 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2 WEEKS PRIOR, WE HAD OUR JEEP IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND ALL FLUID LEVELS WERE CHECKED. WHILE ON A ROAD TRIP, AN INDICATOR LIGHT FOR "POWER STEERING SERVICE NEEDED" CAME ON SUDDENLY JUST BEFORE I WAS ABOUT TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY. I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY AT AN AUTOPARTS STORE. WE CHECKED THE POWER STEERING FLUID RESERVOIR AND IT WAS EMPTY. WE ADDED POWER STEERING FLUID BUT IT WOULD NOT BLEED INTO THE SYSTEM. AT THAT POINT, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER AT LOWER SPEEDS. IT SEEMS UNUSUAL FOR THE POWER STEERING TO GO OUT SUDDENLY WITH VERY LITTLE WARNING. WE TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND LEARNED THAT THE POWER STEERING GEAR BOX WAS LEAKING AND HAD TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED. ADDITIONALLY, THE POWER STEERING MODULE ASSEMBLY FAILED AT THE SAME TIME AND ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED (ALONG WITH THE POWER STEERING PUMP TOO SINCE THAT IS NOT SOLD SEPARATELY EVEN THOUGH IT WAS IN WORKING ORDER). ALL IN ALL, WE ENDED UP PAYING CLOSE TO $3,000 FOR REPLACING BASICALLY THE ENTIRE THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM ON A 4 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. IN MY 30 YEARS OF DRIVING, I HAVE NEVER HAD A NEWER CAR HAVE SUCH A BIG FAILURE OF A CRITICAL SAFETY SYSTEM AND WITH VERY LITTLE WARNING. I WAS LUCKY THAT I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING WHEN IT HAPPENED OR WE COULD HAVE CRASHED. I DID SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE OTHER STEERING SYSTEM COMPLAINTS (LEAKAGES AND FAILURES AT VERY LOW MILEAGES) FROM 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OWNERS. I BELIEVE THE POWER STEERING GEAR BOX DESIGN IS FAULTY FOR IT TO LEAK SO SUDDENLY AND QUICKLY. THE REPAIR PERSON TOLD ME IT SHOULD NOT LEAK AND THAT IT MUST HAVE HAPPENED VERY SUDDENLY. PLEASE CONSIDER DOING ADDITIONAL RESEARCH INTO THIS ISSUE AND IF WARRANTED, ISSUE A RECALL FOR 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES, TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE ENCOURAGE FIAT TO FIX THE FLAW.
LICENSE PLATE LAMPS CEASED FUNCTIONING. OBVIOUS SIGNS OF EXCESSIVE HEAT BEING GENERATED. ORIGINAL REPLACEMENT LAMPS ARE DISCONTINUED. MANUFACTURER STATES THAT I HAVE TO PURCHASE A NEW WIRING HARNESS AND LAMPS FOR AROUND $260 FOR PARTS ONLY. THIS APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN DEFECT AS THE ORIGINAL LAMPS HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED AND THE MANUFACTURER HAS REDESIGNED THE LAMPS AND HARNESS. ILLUMINATION OF THE LICENSE IS REQUIRED AND THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT TO FIX THEIR DESIGN PROBLEM. THIS COULD BE A FIRE HAZARD IF THE ORIGINAL LAMPS HEAT UP. I HAVE ATTACHED A PHOTO SHOWING THE DARK BURN MARKS IN THE ORIGINAL LAMPS
I WAS DRIVING ON I25 IN DENVER AND WHEN I WAS JUST GETTING OFF THE EXIT RAMP I HIT A VERY SMALL BUMP AND I HEARD A LOUD NOISE. I COULDN'T TELL IF IT WAS INSIDE OR OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE AT FIRST. I LOOKED OVER AND WAS SURPRISED TO SEE THAT THE PASSENGER HEADREST HAD DEPLOYED ITS MECHANISM TO MOVE PART OF IT FORWARD TO LESSEN THE AFFECT OF WHIPLASH FROM AN ACCIDENT. IT WAS A STARTLING NOISE AND I WONDERED WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF A FAMILY MEMBER WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THAT SEAT AND BEEN HIT IN THE HEAD BY THE HEADREST. EVEN MORE OF A CONCERN WOULD BE IF THE DEPLOYMENT WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE DRIVER SIDE. WHO KNOWS WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I HAD BEEN STARTLED BY GETTING HIT IN HEAD AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I NOW DRIVE THE CAR WITH THE SEAT ADJUSTED AT ABOUT A 60 DEGREE ANGLE TO AVOID THAT SCENARIO. I WAS SHOCKED TO FIND OUT FROM FCA THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR SUCH A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I COMPLAINED TO THEM AND THEY ARE NOT STANDING BEHIND THE SAFETY OF THEIR VEHICLES. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2017 AS A CERTIFIED PREOWNED VEHICLE AND THAT PROGRAM WOULDN'T COVER THE REPAIR OF THE VEHICLE EITHER. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE ME $1,000 TO FIX IT BUT THEY CAN'T GET A NEW HEADREST BECAUSE IT IS BACK ORDERED. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS BECAUSE IT IS HAPPENING TO OTHER JEEP OWNERS. I ALSO SAW ON A JEEP BLOG THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO OTHERS. I FOUND IT VERY HARD TO BELIEVE THAT AN OEM DOES NOT HAVE TO REPAIR A SAFETY DEVICE THAT DEPLOYS FOR NO REASON AND PUTS THE PASSENGERS AT RISK. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 10 TO 15 MPH, THE DRIVER'S HEADREST AIR BAG ABRUPTLY DEPLOYED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ROMANO CHRYSLER JEEP (215 W GENESEE STREET, FAYATTEVILLE, NY 13066, 315-637-3101) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVER'S HEADREST AIR BAG NEEDED TO BE RESET. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
MY DRIVER SIDE AHR HEADREST RECENTLY BROKE WHILE I WAS IN MY CAR AND I WAS VERY NEARLY HIT BY IT, WHICH WOULD HAVE CAUSED INJURY FOR SURE. I KNOW THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THIS PART. THE CAR WAS PARKED AND ONLY THE LEFT SIDE DEPLOYED. THE PLASTIC PIECES HOLDING THE HEADREST IN ARE BOTH BROKEN.
HEADREST DEPLOYS WITHOUT COLLISION. WHILE PARKED IN DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT, DRIVERS SIDE HEADREST DEPLOYED (POPPED OPEN AND FORWARD). DEALERSHIP FOUND NO FAULTS.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AFTER VISITING A FRIEND WHEN I HIT A HOLE IN THE STREET AND HEARD THIS NOISE AND LOOKED OVER AND THE HEADREST HAD CAME APART WENT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT FIX IT BECAUSE IT WAS COSMETIC. *JS
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT ROUGHLY 40MPH, THE DRIVERS SEAT ACTIVE HEADREST DEPLOYED AND HIT ME IN BACK OF THE HEAD, JERKING MY HEAD FORWARD. AFTER ARRIVING HOME, I INSPECTED THE HEADREST AND NOTICED THAT THE PLASTIC CLIPS HOLDING THE HEADREST BACK, BROKE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD EXPLOSION AS THE SUN ROOF EXPLODED WITHOUT WARNING. GLASS FELL ONTO THE CONTACT'S HEAD, BUT THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO SECURE THE SUN ROOF BEFORE CONTINUING TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,214.
THE PASSENGER HEAD REST IN MY JEEP G C DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON AS THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ( ON THE CITY STREETS) FEW WEEKS AGO. THIS IS A SAFETY MECHANISM BUILD INTO THE JEEPS FOR SAFETY PURPOSES. NOT SO SAFE WHEN IT RANDOMLY DEPLOYED. IT WONDER WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE WILL DEPLOY HITTING ME IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD WHILE DRIVING.
CONSTANT CYLINDER 6 MISFIRE. ALL 6 SPARK PLUGS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. COIL AND FUEL INJECTOR REPLACED. STILL SHOWING CYLINDER 6 MISFIRE. SEEN CYLINDER HEAD BEING REPLACED ON YEARS 2011-2013 BUT NOT FOR A 2014. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED. WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, IT HAD SEIZURE LIKE CONVULSIONS WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND WHILE IN IDLE UNTIL SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED. STILL RUNNING ROUGH, VERY SHAKING LIKE IT IS GOING TO STALL OUT.
VEHICLE WILL SHIFT FROM 3RD TO 4TH VERY HARD AND GET STUCK IN 3RD GEAR MORE OFTEN THAN NOT. THIS IS A PROBLEM WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC.
WE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION ELECTRONIC SHIFT LEVER. WE ASK THE TECHNICIAN TO CHECK THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT, AS IT HAD LOCKED. WE HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR THREE YEARS AND IT HAS JUST A LITTLE OVER 25,000 MILES. THE TECHNICIAN INDICATED THE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR WAS WORKING AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY MECHANISM THAT I FEEL FAILED IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND THEREFORE MUST HAVE HAD A DEFECT. JEEP SELLS THE IDEA OF THE SAFETY RATING OF IT'S VEHICLE BUT FOR A SEAT BELT TO FAIL IN A THREE YEAR PERIOD OF LIMITED USE IS PLACING THE CONSUMER AT RISK.
THIS INCIDENT REGARDS THE T-36 RECALL ISSUED BY FIAT/CHRYSLER, WHICH INVOLVES 2012-2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES (AMONG OTHERS), AND "AFFECTS VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING SYSTEMS, 5.7L OR 3.6L ENGINES, AND 160, 180, OR 220 AMP ALTERNATORS. IN THOSE VEHICLES, NHTSA SAYS THAT THE ALTERNATOR MAY FAIL WITHOUT WARNING." DURING JUNE 2018, MY 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE (SUMMIT TRIM), EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ALTERNATOR FAILURE WHILE IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY. THE ALTERNATOR STARTED TO SMOKE, AND BY THE TIME I HAD REACHED MY DESTINATION, THERE WAS GREY SMOKE BARRELING OUT OF THE HOOD OF MY CAR AND THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. THE JEEP HAD TO BE TOWED TO A NEARBY DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. IN ADDITION TO THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY REPLACMENT, THE TENSIONER, IDLER AND SERPENTINE BELT HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO UNDUE STRAIN PLACED ON THEM BY THE ALTERNATOR FAILURE. THE INCIDENT THAT OCCURRED MATCHES THE DESCRIPTION OF THE T-36 RECALL. ADDITIONALLY, THE YEAR, MAKE, ENGINE SIZE, AND AMPERAGE OF THE ALTERNATOR ALL MATCH THE DESCRIPTION GIVEN IN THE T-36 RECALL. HOWEVER, THE VIN NUMBER FOR MY PARTICULAR JEEP DID NOT APPEAR UNDER THE RECALL, AND THEREFORE, JEEP/CHRYSLER WOULD NOT REPAIR MY JEEP UNDER THAT PARTICULAR RECALL. THEY DID FIX THE JEEP, BUT AT MY COST (THE OWNER). I 100% BELIEVE THIS AN OVERSIGHT BY JEEP/CHRYSLER (OR MAYBE NHTSA) AND SHOULD BE REMEDIED IMMEDIATELY. I DO BELIEVE THERE ARE OTHER JEEP OWNERS THAT ARE UNAWARE OF THIS ISSUE, DUE TO THE LACK OF NOTIFICATION BY JEEP/CHRYSLER, AND WILL EXPERIENCE THE SAME ISSUE, WHICH COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND LEAD TO INJURY. PLEASE REVIEW THE DETAILS OF MY JEEP VIN AND WHY IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE T-36 RECALL. IF THIS HAPPENED TO MY JEEP, THEN I IMAGINE IT WILL HAPPEN TO OTHERS. WHILE PARKED WITH THE VEHICLE OFF, I WAS SITTING IN THE DRIVER SEAT WHEN I SUDDENLY HEARD A LOUD BANG. I LOOKED ALL AROUND AND SAW THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT ON THE PASSENGER SEAT HAD EXPLODED. PLASTIC PIECES WENT FLYING OUT. THE SOUND WAS VERY LOUD AND STARTLING, AND THE INCIDENT OCCURED WITH NO PROVOCATION. THROUGH GOOGLE SEARCHES, MANY OTHER INCIDENCES OF THIS CAN BE SEEN HAPPENING. SOME PEOPLE HAVE THE HEAD RESTRAINT IMPACT THEIR HEAD WHILE DRIVING, WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED THEM TO WRECK. I AM TERRIFIED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE WILL DO THE SAME THING, AND CAUSE ME TO WRECK DUE TO THE SHOCK OF BEING HIT IN THE HEAD. FURTHERMORE, THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 3.5 YEARS OLD AND UNDER 100,000 MILES. JEEP HAS STATED THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED AND THAT IT IS PART OF NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I ADAMENTLY DISSAGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT. THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINTS ARE HELD UNDER HIGH TENSION WITH A PIECE OF PLASTIC. WHEN THIS PIECE OF PLASTIC FATIGUES DUE TO THE STRESSES OF THE SPRING TENSION, THE HEADREST RELEASES. THIS IS A CLEAR DESIGN FLAW FROM THE FACTORY, AND IT NOT ONLY RESULTS IN LOSS OF FUNCTIONALITY, BUT COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH TO THE USERS OF THE VEHICLES. REPAIR COSTS ARE QUOTED AROUND $750.

I KEEP GETTING A MESSAGE THAT STATES THE 911 SYSTEM NEEDS MAINTENANCE. SHORTLY AFTER I STARTED GETTING THAT MESSAGE, WHEN STARTING MY JEEP MY SCREEN WILL STAY BLANK FOR ABOUT 3-5 MINUTES BEFORE COMING ON. WHEN IT IS BLANK THE VEHICLE WILL SWITCH BETWEEN AIR CONDITIONING AND HEAT, HIGH FAN AND LOW FAN SPEED. WHEN THE SCREEN IS BLANK I AM UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING.....EVEN USING THE BUTTONS BELOW THE SCREEN DO NOT WORK.
FRONT PASSAGER HEADREST DEPLOYED WHILE PARKED AND IDLING. PASSAGER HAD JUST ENTERED THE VEHICLE.
THE ALTERNATOR LIGHT CAME ON IN THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING, THEN WITHIN ABOUT 10-15 MINUTES THE RADIO HAD NO SOUND ALTHOUGH THE SCREEN WAS STILL LIT. OTHER LIGHTS THEN CAME ON SUCH AS THE ENGINE LIGHT, ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER, I HAD TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN, WHEN TAKING OFF AGAIN, THE CAR WOULD BARELY MOVE. IT WOULDN'T GO ABOVE ABOUT 10-15 MILES PER HOUR, THEN IT PICKED UP SPEED BUT I NO LONGER HAD POWER STEERING. AS I PULL INTO A PARKING LOT TO GET THE CAR OFF OF THE ROAD, THE WIPERS TURNED ON (EVEN THOUGH THE SWITCH WAS OFF). WHEN I GOT INTO THE PARKING SPOT, THE CAR COULD NOT BE PUT INTO PARK DUE TO THE POWER ISSUES. I HAD TO HOLD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE UNTIL THE ENGINE DIED. WITHIN 2-3 MINUTES THE ENGINE DIED. EVERYTHING WAS DEAD, INCLUDING THE POWER LOCKS. THEN A FEW MINUTES LATER THE DASH WOULD LIGHT SAYING THE IGNITION OR ACCESSORY UNIT WAS TURNED ON BUT YOU COULDN'T DO ANYTHING TO TURN IT OFF. EVERYTHING WOULD THEN TURN OFF AGAIN. AFTER SITTING FOR ABOUT 30-45 MIN, THE CAR WOULD START BACK UP BUT IT WAS NOT DRIVEN ANYWHERE, WE HAD IT TOWED. BOTH THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHICH IS WHAT CAUSED THE ISSUES. THE ALTERNATOR IS UNDER A RECALL FOR MY MODEL/YEAR/ENGINE TYPE BUT NOT FOR MY VIN. THE RECALL WAS DUE TO VERY SIMILAR ISSUES, LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, LOSS OF POWER.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE ACTIVE HEAD REST DEPLOYED INAPPROPRIATELY AND FOR NO REASON WITH NO VEHICLE IMPACT WHILE PARKED. THE PLASTIC TABS ARE BROKEN AND THE HEADREST CANNOT BE APPROPRIATELY RESET AS IT IS DESIGNED TO DO. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT, THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF POSTS ONLINE WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT, DEALERS REFUSE TO REPAIR OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY. MY PARTICULAR CASE DID NOT RESULT IN INJURY OR CRASH, HOWEVER IF THE HEADREST DEPLOYED HITTING THE DRIVER WHILE AT HIGH SPEEDS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR INJURY.

SWITCHED FROM LEFT LANE TO FAR RIGHT TO REDUCE SPEED. VEHICLE BECAME MORE LETHARGIC. AS VEHICLE PROCEEDED UP EXIT RAMP TO LEAVE INTERSTATE, TRANSMISSION AUTOMATICALLY WENT INTO NEUTRAL. VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO GAS STATION PARKING LOT. VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF. RAISED HOOD, AND THERE WAS A SMELL SIMILAR TO ROTTEN EGGS, LIKE A NATURAL GAS SMELL. NO OBVIOUS DAMAGE AS IF IT WAS PHYSICAL. NO BELTS OR HOSES APPEARED LOOSE OR HANGING. NO FLUIDS WERE VISIBLY LEAVING ENGINE. NO SMOKE OR STEAM. THE SEATBELT IS BACK ORDERED NATIONWIDE AND THERE ARE NO "AFTER-MARKET" PARTS. THIS IS CURRENTLY NOT LISTED AS A RECALLED PART. I AM CURRENTLY WITHOUT A FUNCTIONAL SEATBELT. THE BROKEN PART IS THE PLASTIC PIECE THAT THE SEATBELT FEEDS THROUGH AT THE TOP AND IT WAS LOCATED INSIDE OF THE SEATBELT HOUSING.THE CRACK CAUSED THE PLASTIC PIECE TO REST ON THE SEATBELT TO WHERE IT WAS UNABLE TO RETRACT. JEEP BEGAN TO POWER SURGE UP AND DOWN WINDSHIELD WIPER CAME ON RADIO WENT OFF, POWER STEERING BECAME HARD TO CONTROL NO BRAKES, CAME TO ROLLING STOP AT CHEVRON GAS LOT LENWOOD ROAD . I WAS SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO TURN GREEN SO I COULD TURN, WHEN I SMELLED GAS. I THOUGHT IT WAS FROM OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE AS WHEN I OPENED MY WINDOW I COULD SMELL IT OUTSIDE. AFTER I MADE THE TURN, I WAS STOPPED AT THE NEXT TRAFFIC LIGHT WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED OUT. I TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE BUT IT WOULD NOT START AND AN INTENSE SMELL OF GASOLINE FILLED THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN I EXITED THE VEHICLE I LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT GASOLINE WAS POURING OUT THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE IN A STEADY STREAM AND APPEARED TO BE DRIPPING FROM OTHER PARTS OF THE UNDERSIDE. I PROMPTLY TURNED OF THE VEHICLE AND BACKED AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE FOR FEAR THAT A FIRE WAS A REAL POSSIBILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS EVENTUALLY TOWED TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP WHICH FOUND THAT THE "TRACED TO FUEL LINE BROKEN FROM INTAKE MANIFOLD." I DO NOT RECALL THE VEHICLE HAVING HIT ANYTHING OR RUN OVER ANYTHING THAT MIGHT HAVE CAUSE ANY DAMAGE TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE OR THE FUEL LINE.
WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT THE DRIVER'S SIDE ACTIVE HEADREST DEPLOYED STRIKING THE DRIVER IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. THERE WAS NO COLLISION OR SOMEBODY TOUCHING THE ACTIVE HEADREST. ON INSPECTION FOUND TWO PIECES OF PLASTIC THAT HAD BROKEN OFF OF THE MECHANISM. THE CAR IS FOUR YEARS OLD WITH LESS THAN 47,000 MILES.
MFG 4/1/2013, REPLACED BCM / 4/27/2016 AFTER ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OFF. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OFF. REPLACED TRANS VALVE. ON 5/3/2018 THE BCM SHORT CIRCUITED AND ALTERNATOR BURNED WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED LEAVING STRONG SMOKE AND BURNT SMELL IN CABIN. VEHICLE HAS 56,000 MILES AND HAS HAD BCM REPLACED TWICE IN 23 MONTHS. NO DIAGNOSES AVAILED AS TO WHY VEHICLE WILL NOT SHUT OFF ON OCCASION. ALL ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND RECALLS ARE CURRENT. *TR

THE PLASTIC CLIPS/TABS HOLDING THE AHR FROM POPPING OUT BROKE OFF AND LANDED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE AS IF IT HAPPENS TO THE DRIVER EXPECTANTLY THIS COULD RESULT IN A SEVERE ACCIDENT. JEEP IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND IS DOING NOTHING.
MY FAMILY WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 50MPH ON A 4 LANE CITY STREET. I WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT SPEAKING TO MY SON IN THE BACK SEAT WHEN I WAS ABRUPTLY HIT IN THE SIDE OF THE FACE WITH THE SEAT. WE HAD NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED UNTIL MY SON SAID THE SEAT BLEW UP. WE STOPPED AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR TO SEE THAT THE HEADREST HAD DEPLOYED SOMEHOW.
