TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE HEADREST ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT POPPED OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE HEADREST GRAZED THE HEAD OF A CHILD PASSENGER, BUT THE CHILD WAS UNINJURED. THE DEALER (LITHIA CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM CORPUS CHRISTI, 4313 S STAPLES ST, CORPUS CHRISTI, TX 78411) WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO DRIVE OR TOW THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT OF THE SAME INFORMATION AS THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.
THE JEEP NAVIGATION GPS SYSTEM HAS A FAULT THAT HAS CAUSED ME TO MAKE ABRUPT LANE CHANGES. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MY JEEP ON-BOARD GPS HAS ORDERED A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN VERBALLY BUT WHEN THE MAP WAS LOOKED AT IT WOULD INDICATE THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. THE PROBLEM IS THAT IF I LISTEN TO THE SPOKEN DIRECTIONS I MAY BE TURN THE WRONG WAY. IF I CONSULT THE MAP AFTER I BEGIN THE TURN I HAVE TO CROSS LANES. I HAVE NOT YET HAD AN ACCIDENT BUT HAVE HAD CLOSE CALLS. I HAVE ASKED TWO OTHER OWNERS OF JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES 2014 AND BOTH HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS
THE DRIVER HEAD REST DEPLOUED WHILE DRIVEING ALMOST CAUSEING THE DRIVE TO LOOSE CONTROLL
THE OIL COOLING SYSTEM STARTED LEAKING AT 50K MILES. I NOTICED A BURNING OIL SMELL COMING FROM THE VENTS. THAT NIGHT I HAD A SIGNIFICANT OIL LEAK UNDER THE CAR. AFTER TAKING THIS TO A SERVICE SHOP, THEY LET ME KNOW THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM.
DASHBOARD CLUSTER, AND TAIL LIGHTS FLICKERS ON AND OFF WHILE IN LOCKED OR UNLOCKED MODE AND WITH VEHICLE TURNED OFF, AND STATIONARY. WITH OR WITHOUT THE FOB KEY NEAR, AND THE CAR DOES THIS UNTIL BATTERY DIES. IT HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER 3 TIMES, NEW BATTERY STILL THE SAME ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED OR MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
PASSENGER FRONT ACTIVE HEADREST DEPLOYED WITHOUT ACCIDENT OR WARNING. JUST POPPED OUT WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, STEPHEN WADE CHRYSLER JEEP IN ST GEORGE UT, AND THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE ITS WARRANTY PERIOD AND THE REPAIR WOULD BE AROUND $600. IT APPEARS THAT PLASTIC TABS ARE ALL THAT HOLDS THIS SAFETY DEVICE TOGETHER. LUCKILY I WAS NOT DRIVING WITH A PASSENGER WHO MAY HAVE BEEN INJURED BY THE SUDDEN VIOLENT DEPLOYMENT.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A PARKING STALL AT THE CITY PARK. I LEFT THE VECHICLE TO PICKUP TOOLS AT THE PARKS BAND SHELTER WHICH WAS ABOUT 40 FEET FROM THE PARKED VECHICLE. I RETURNED TO PARKED LOCATION AND THE VECHICLE WAS GONE. I FOUND IT ABOUT 20 FEET AWAY WEDGED UP AGAINST THE PARK SHELTERS PILLAR WITH A BICYCLE WEDGED UNDERNEATH THE VECHICLE. THE VECHICLE WAS STOPPED BY BRICK COLUMN ABOUT 4' FROM THE PLAYGROUND. 3 SCHOOL AGE BOYS WERE MERE SECONDS FROM BEING STRUCK BY THE VECHICLE. THE VECHICLE NEVER TURNED OFF AS WHEN I EXITED THE VECHICLE AND PUT IT INTO PARK, THE VECHICLE DIDN'T 'SHIFT' INTO PARK AS EXPECTED. THE INCIDENT WAS CAUGHT ON CAMERA BY THE PARKS SECURITY CAMERA. IT'S IS TERRIFYING TO SAY THE LEAST. AFTER THE FACT PHOTOS ARE INCLUDED HERE AS WELL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE SLID AND CRASHED INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE CORNER PANEL OF A 2009 CHEVROLET TRUCK. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES, SENSOR, AND ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 33977852. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 39,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
VEHICLE DOES NOT RELIABLY START WHEN THE BRAKE AND ENGINE BUTTON ARE PUSHED. THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS UP, BUT THERE IS NO MESSAGE AND VEHICLE FAILS TO START. I OFTEN HAVE TO TRY 3-4 TIMES TO GET THE VEHICLE TO START, ULTIMATELY HAVING THE KEY AT THE PUSH START BUTTON. KEY FOB BATTERIES HAVE BEEN REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES, STAR CASE WAS OPENED, AND WIN MODULE REPLACED. VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR SERVICE MANY TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE, WHICH REMAINS. CHRYSLER CASE MANAGEMENT IS WELL AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE ONLY "POSSIBLE" CONNECTION FOUND IS AN INCOMPATIBILITY WITH CUP LED LIGHTING AND KEY FOB TECHNOLOGY. IN ADDITION TO BEING FRUSTRATING, IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE.
IN 2018, THE A/C FIRST WENT OUT AND WE WENT TO MOPAR TO HAVE IT ASSESSED. WE WERE TOLD IT WAS NOT A "CHARGING" PROBLEM BUT ELECTRICAL AND NEED THE DEALER. A FEW WEEKS LATER, WITHOUT ANY INTERVENTION THE A/C CAME BACK ON. IN JUNE 2019, THE A/C WENT OUT AGAIN AND THE DEALER SAID "FAULTY TIPM" AND THE REPAIR WITH DIAGNOSTICS WOULD BE CLOSE TO $900. HOW DOES A 4 YEAR OLD CAR WITH LESS THAN 50K MILES INCUR A BRAIN FAILURE?! I GUESS IT COULD HAPPEN BUT RESEARCHING THE TOPIC I SEE JEEP HAS A LONG HISTORY OF FAULTY TIPMS WITH ONLY 1 RECALL. WHY DOES NHTSA ALLOW JEEP TO RIP OFF CUSTOMERS? IT SEEMS CLEAR THAT JEEP HAS A CONSISTENT HISTORY OF INSTALLING FAULTY TIPMS SO THEY CAN REAP $1,000 REPAIRS. YOU CANNOT SEE THE A/C NOT PRODUCING COLD AIR SO I WILL SKIP UPLOADING A PICTURE.
IN THE PROCESS OF PARKING AT MY SISTER'S HOME, I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND STARTED TO BRAKE. THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN. I CONTINUED TO BRAKE, BUT THE CAR KEPT GOING FORWARD WITH INCREASING SPEED. I WAS ABLE TO STEER AND NOT HIT PARKED CARS, BUT WENT INTO THE LAWN HITTING A SET OF CONTRACTOR'S SCAFFOLDING SENDING THEM FLYING INTO THEIR HOUSE AND PATIO. THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED ON TOP OF THEIR WELL HEAD, DESTROYING THE WELL COVER AS WELL AS THE PROTECTIVE PIPE FOR THE WELL HEAD. FURTHER INTERNAL DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THEIR WELL, AS THERE WAS NO RUNNING WATER IN THE HOUSE. A TOW TRUCK HAD TO COME TO LIFT THE CAR OFF THE WELL HEAD TO AVOID ANY FURTHER DAMAGE. I HAD BEEN USING THE CRUISE CONTROL EARLIER IN OUR TRIP, BUT IT WAS NOT ACTIVE AT THE TIME.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. ED VOYLE CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM IN MARIETTA, GA WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
THIS VEHICLE HAS SERIOUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. TRANSMISSION SHIFTS HARD IN AND OUT GEARS. IT ALSO DOESN'T SHIFT SOMETIMES. VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. HAD THE COMPUTER RESET SEVERAL TIMES AND IT HASN'T FIXED THE PROBLEM.

WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE TACHOMETER, RPM, SPEEDOMETER, WATER TEMPERATURE, TIRE PRESSURE, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, GEAR SHIFTER, SEAT BELT, AND ANTI-SKID WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. ALSO, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS INDEPENDENTLY ACTIVATED. WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE GEAR SHIFTER FAILED TO SHIFT OUT OF GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO RAIRDON'S CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF KIRKLAND (12828 NE 124TH ST, KIRKLAND, WA 98034), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V483000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL). THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL AND REFERRED HIM TO NHTSA. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000. *DT *TT CONSUMER STATED: I HAVE NOW BEEN DRIVING THE JEEP FOR FOUR MONTHS SINCE THE BCM WAS REPLACED. WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH SINCE THE BCM REPLACEMENT, THERE WERE TWO INSTANCES WHERE, DURING A LEFT-HAND TURN, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DROPPED OUT MOMENTARILY (BLINKED) WITH A COINCIDENT FAULT WARNING CHIME. BUT IN BOTH INSTANCES, ALL SYSTEMS IMMEDIATELY RECOVERED AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO OTHER INSTANCES, REGARDLESS OF DRIVING CONDITIONS, FOR THE PAST THREE MONTHS. UPDATED 10/5/18*JB
WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE, A "SERVICE SHIFTER" ERROR IS SHOWN ON THE DIGITAL INFORMATION SCREEN ON THE DASHBOARD, BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN THE ERROR IS THROWN, OTHER (MOST ALL) LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD (MIL AND OTHERS LIKE TRACTION CONTROL, EMERGENCY BRAKE, ET CETERA) ARE ILLUMINATED AND THERE IS A CHIME SOUND. THE LIGHTS THAT ILLUMINATE THE SHIFTER WILL PULSATE. WHEN THIS OCCURS, SOMETIMES IT FEELS LIKE THE VEHICLE HAS A LOSS OF POWER. THE VEHICLE MUST BE RESTARTED BEFORE IT RESUMES NORMAL OPERATION. THIS HAS OCCURRED REPEATEDLY, EVEN AFTER BEING SERVICED BY A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP FOR THIS ISSUE. THE HAS OCCURRED DURING WHILE DRIVING AT ALL SPEEDS, WHILE GOING STRAIGHT AND TURNING. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS IN NOVEMBER 2017, AND MOST RECENTLY MARCH 2018.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE MADE A SQUEALING AND WHINING NOISE AND THERE WAS A BURNING ODOR UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE ABS, POWER STEERING, AND BRAKE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. ALSO, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND OTHER COMPONENTS BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION. THE CONTACT PARKED AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE, BUT IT FAILED TO RESTART. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BATTERY, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO OPERATE APPROPRIATELY FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE CONTACT CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE ALTERNATOR. THE CONTACT STATED THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED CARY AUTOPARK CHRYSLER JEEP (400 AUTO PARK BLVD, CARY, NORTH CAROLINA 27511, 888-923-9538) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE ALTERNATOR AND BRAKES FAILED. THE DEALER WOULD NOT ASSIST BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,800.
ON MARCH 4, 2018 MY JEEP WAS PARKED, IN PARK, AT THE TOP OF A DRIVEWAY ON A SLIGHT GRADE. BY MORNING IT HAD ROLLED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY INTO A RAVINE, ROLLING TWICE. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER CONFIRMED IT WAS IN PARK. I NOW HAVE $20,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE WITHOUT A NEEDED SAFETY CHECK BEFORE REPAIRS CAN BE DONE, IF THAT'S EVEN POSSIBLE. NO ONE CAN EXPLAIN TO ME HOW A VEHICLE, IN PARK, CAN ROLL DOWN A HILL? NOT THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER, INSURANCE ADJUSTER OR BODY SHOP. MY JEEP HAS LOST ALL OF IT'S VALUE WITH THIS MISHAP. I AM FIGHTING WITH INSURANCE BECAUSE I FEEL IT IS A TOTAL LOSS, THEY DISAGREE. I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE. I AM TERRIFIED TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AND RETURNED TO ME. I AM A DISABLED 67 YEAR OLD WIDOW. CAN YOU EXPLAIN?
MY CAR IS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED 3.6L. IT HAS HAD 9 RECALLS, COMPLETED. I HAD DASHBOARD ISSUES WHERE THERE WERE NO DISPLAYS OR LIGHTING. THE DEALER COULD NOT REPEAT THE ISSUE. THEY DID FINALLY AND REPAIR. THE GAS TANK HAD VENTILATION ISSUES AND WOULD NOT FILL BEYOND A HALF A TANK. I AM SUFFERING THE SAME ISSUE. THE RADIO AND GPS SYSTEM WENT TOTALLY OUT. JEEP REPLACED THE ENTIRE SYSTEM. THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS A 2014, I PURCHASED AND RECEIVED IT IN MAY 2013. MY MILEAGE IS ABOUT 79,000. AT THE COST OF $3000.00 I HAD PURCHASED THE MOPAR LIFETIME MAXICARE WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD THIS COVERED EVERYTHING FOR THE VEHICLE AS LONG AS I OWNED IT EXCEPT FOR WEAR/TEAR ITEMS. THE RADIO/GPS SYSTEM WAS DEEMED DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED BY JEEP IN MARCH 2018. AFTERWARDS, WHEN THE CAR IS DRIVEN THERE IS A DASHBOARD INTERNAL RATTLE/HUM THAT TOTALLY RESTRICTS ANY HEARING WHILE DRIVING ABOVE 40-50 MPH. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP CHECKED THE CENTER CONSOLE SPEAKER AND STATED THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE EVENT. IT IS SO LOUD IT DROWNS OUT ALL NOISES INSIDE AND OUT SUCH AS SIRENS. I HAVE JUST RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE. I ATTEMPTED TO MAKE THE APPT ON 3/10 THEY SCHEDULED ME FOR 4/3/19. I TOLD THEM THAT THE GAS TANK AGAIN WILL NOT TAKE MORE THAN 3-4 GALS OF GAS WHICH LEAVES ME WITH LESS THAN A HALF OF TANK, AND THAT THE RATTLE IS GETTING WORSE.THEY ASSURED ME THEY WOULD EXAMINE ALL THE ISSUES, BUT EVEN THOUGH I PURCHASED THE LIFETIME MAXICARE, I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE RATTLE AND PROBABLY THE GAS TANK ISSUE (EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE GAS TANK ISSUE CAUSE BEING THEIR VENTING ISSUE OF THE TANK). I HAVE RESEARCHED THE DASHBOARD RATTLE ON-LINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS POSTS FROM JEEP OWNERS OF 2013-2016 VEHICLES WITH THE SAFETY ISSUE. ESPECIALLY IF IT IS SO EXTREME IT DULLS SIREN SOUNDS FROM EMERGENCY VEHICLES.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE MIRROR AND WINDSHIELD COLUMN CREATE AN 18 INCH BLIND SPOT. AND, THE MIRROR IS SO TALL IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE FOR A 5'6" DRIVER TO SEE OVER IT. THERE IS NO SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT. THE BLIND SPOT MAKES IT VERY UNSAFE TO MAKE LEFT TURNS. I HAVE HAD A FEW CLOSE CALLS AND LAST WEEK IT CAUSED A MINOR FENDER BENDER. I WAS TURNING LEFT ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET IN PAGOSA SPRINGS, CO. BECAUSE OF THE BLIND SPOT, I DID NOT SEE THE CAR COMING UP TO A STOP SIGN. THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE MIRROR DESIGN IS DANGEROUS.
TO WHOM THIS MAY CONCERN, ON FEBRUARY 23, 2018 I WAS DRIVING ON I-4 IN ORLANDO, FL WHEN A PASSENGER-SEAT BRACKET INSIDE THE HEADREST GAVE WAY. MY WIFE WAS THE PASSENGER WHO ACTUALLY STAYED HOME FROM WORK THE FOLLOWING DAY HAVING NECK PAIN. NECK PAIN DIMINISHED AND SHE WENT BACK TO WORK THE NEXT DAY. SOMETIME SHORTLY AFTER, I DROPPED OFF MY CAR (2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SUMMIT) AT THE FIELDS AUTOMOTIVE FOR A HEADREST REPLACEMENT. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME I HAD TO RESCHEDULE AS THEY HAD TO ORDER A NEW HEADREST. I WENT BACK TO PICK UP MY JEEP AND OF COURSE RESCHEDULE A TIME FOR REPLACEMENT. WHEN I DROPPED OFF MY JEEP AGAIN, I GET A PHONE CALL STATING THAT THE HEADREST WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE COST WAS WELL OVER $700.00 (PARTS AND LABOR) WHICH I DECLINED AND WENT BACK AGAIN TO PICK UP. A FEW WEEKS LATER I DECIDED TO ORDER THE HEADREST FROM FACTORY OEM PARTS IN TAMPA, FLORIDA AND HAD IT SHIPPED TO MY RESIDENCE. RECEIVED NEW HEAD REST, INSTALLED AND WIRED IN SECONDS. HEADREST COST $443.87 INCLUDING SHIPPING. INVOICE IS ATTACHED. VERY UPSET WITH THE TIME I SPENT ON RESOLVING THIS AND THE MARKUP THE DEALERSHIPS ARE CHARGING FOR THE REPLACEMENT. I INVESTIGATED THE DAMAGED HEADREST AND RELATED THE FAULT FROM A BROKEN PLASTIC CLIP. I STILL HAVE THE DAMAGED HEADREST.
FOR BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT SEATBELTS, THE UPPER HANGING (BELT) BRACKET WHICH ATTACHES TO THE HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT FEATURE HAS CRACKED. THE DRIVER SIDE IS MORE SEVERE THAN THE PASSENGER SIDE, RENDERING IT USELESS AS IT PREVENTS THE BELT FROM PROPERLY TENSIONING/RETRACTING. THE VEHICLE STALLS WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING IT, TRANSMISSION LIGHT COMES ON. IT SAYS PLACE IN PARK TO RESTART BUT SOMETIMES TAKES FOREVER AND THEN IT SPUTTERS. SOMETIMES WHEN YOU TURN THE VEHICLE OFF YOU CAN STILL HEAR THE FUEL PUMP OPERATING. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES NOW. I HAVE A CHILD AND IF ANYTHING HAPPENS- LIKE GETTING RAN OVER BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND EITHER OF US GETS HURT- SOMEONE IS GOING TO PAY DEARLY. IT'S NOT LIKE JEEP CHRYSLER DOESN'T KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE MAKE THEM PULL ALL OF THESE VEHICLES OFF OF THE ROAD BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. THANK YOU! THE MANUFACTURER HAD A CAMPAIGN TO REPLACE THE SEAL, WHICH THEY STATED THAT THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN; HOWEVER, THE DEALER HAD NOT FULLY INSPECTED THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
MY JEEP AS THE T36 ALTERNATOR RECALL. MY VEHICLE RECENTLY WAS AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL AND IT'S EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. MY ENTER VEHICLE POWERED OFF AND THAT LEFT ME WITH NO POWER STEERING OR MUCH CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD.. WHEN I WAS ABLE TO GET TO A SAFE LOCATION I FOUND MY ALTERNATOR SMOKING HEAVY AND MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. I TOOK THE JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE ONLY CURRENT FIX IS TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR WITH THE SAME FAULTY DESIGN THAT FAILED IN THE FIRST PLACE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF THIS WOULD HAVE FAILED AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED OR IN ANY DAILY DRIVING SITUATION. I CANNOT BELIEVE CHRYSLER IS GETTING AWAY WITH THIS.
THURSDAY AFTERNOON, THERE WAS A FAINT SOUND OF A BELT WHIRRING OR SIMILAR, BUT NO CHANGE TO DRIVING. GABRIEL NOTED A WEIRD SMELL WHEN WE PARKED AT HOME, BUT I DIDN'T SMELL IT. I DROVE TO A MEETING AND NOTICED THE SOUND AGAIN, BUT NO LIGHTS ON OR CHANGE TO DRIVING. FRIDAY MORNING, I DROVE TO SCHOOL AND THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON, BUT NO OTHER CHANGES. FRIDAY AFTERNOON I DROVE FROM SCHOOL AT 1:20 TO HWY 12 AND MISSION ON MY WAY HOME. WITHIN A FEW BLOCKS THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND A NOTICE TO GO TO BATTERY SAVE MODE CAME ON. BY MIDDLE RINCON, I STARTED TO SMELL SOMETHING, BUT NO CHANGE OTHERWISE. AT THAT LIGHT, ANOTHER DRIVER WAVED ME DOWN AND WE PULLED INTO VALERO. HE HELPED ME LIFT THE HOOD, WHICH HAD BILLOWING SMOKE BY THEN COMING OUT, AND HE SAID IT LOOKED LIKE THE ALTERNATOR, BUT DID NOT SEE FIRE. I THEN CALLED LITHIA AND THEN AAA TO GET A TOW TO LITHIA, BECAUSE I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING IT ANY FURTHER. I WAS CHARGED $5 FOR THE EXTRA .2 MILES OF THE 5.2 MILES IT TOOK ME TO GET TOWED. I REMEMBERED THAT WHEN I GOT MY OIL CHANGE IN LATE DEC-EARLY JAN, BOB TOLD ME THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE ALTERNATOR, BUT THERE WAS NO PART OR SOLUTION AVAILABLE YET. I DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL LETTER, BUT RESEARCHED TODAY THAT PEOPLE RECEIVED IT IN JULY 2017. MY DEALERSHIP INSISTS ON GOING THROUGH MY EXTENDED WARRANTY AND A $200 DEDUCTIBLE AND DID NOT GIVE ME A CAR FOR THE DAYS IT'S BEEN THERE SO FAR. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE COMPANY'S RECALL DEPARTMENT.
I HAVE 60K MILES ON MY JEEP, AND NO DEALERSHIP WILL REPLACE THE PLASTIC TOP LOOP PART ON THE SEAT BELT. BOTH ARE CRACKED WHICH CAUSES MY SEAT BELT TO NOT RETRACT. THE DEALERSHIP AND THE MAINTENANCE BOTH AGREE THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. THEY STATED I'M NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY AND WON'T REPLACE IT. BOTH FRONT ONES WENT OUT. JEEP JUST LOST A CUSTOMER.

THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO VERIFY THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AND INDICATED THAT FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WAS REQUIRED. THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED THREE RECALLS ON THE BRAKES AND FIVE RECALLS FOR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE FAILURE WAS REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER TO DETERMINE IF THEY COULD DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE REAR BACKUP CAMERA HAS BECOME DEFECTIVE AS CONDENSATION HAS GOTTEN INTO IT. REPLACEMENT IS NEEDED BUT THIS IS CLEARLY SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A RECALL. THE CAMERA IS VERY BLURRY AND YOU CANNOT SEE THINGS IN FOCUS AS YOU ARE BABBLING UP THE VEHICLE. THIS PRESENTS A DEFINITIVE SAFETY HAZARD.

SOMETIMES A CRANKING LEAD TO FAIL THE IGNITION.ONCE THE SHUTDOWN HAPPENED ALSO WITH THE VEHICLE RUNNING, NOT IN STANDSTILL,WITH AN HIGH RISK OF ACCIDENT.SO THE VHL WENT TO WORKSHOP AGAIN IN DEC2017, FEB2018 AND MAR2018 AND THE RESULTS OF THE WORKSHOPS (DIFFERENT IN THESE MONTHS) WAS ALWAYS NOT TROUBLE FOUND.THE PROBLEM OF TURNING OFF IN STANDSTILL,USUALLY HAPPENS AT THE TIME OF DEPARTURE AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT, IN DRIVE (GEAR 1),BUT IT HAPPENED ALSO IN PARKING MODE, WITH NOT COLD ENGINE AND ON CLUSTER IS REPORTED"LOW OIL PRESSURE" (OIL CHANGE LESS THAN A MONTH AGO). THE USE OF THE VEHICLE IS NOT HEAVY. THE VEHICLE IS ALWAYS RECOVERED AT NIGHT IN THE BOXG (THE TEMPERATURE DOES NOT FALL BELOW 0 DEGREES) AND THEREFORE IS NOT EXPOSED TO EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS. BRAKE BOOSTER IN VEHICLE IS PRONE TO FAIL. FAILURE OF BRAKE BOOSTER COMPONENT LEADS TO TOTAL FAILURE OF THE WHOLE BRAKING SYSTEM. THIS CAN LEAD TO UNEXPECTED ACCIDENTS. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING A SQUEAK COMING FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE BRAKES. BROUGHT IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDS REPLACING. THEY TOLD ME THAT FAILURE TO REPLACE PART CAN LEAD TO MAJOR SAFETY ISSUES.
I WAS COMING TO A GRADUAL STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT ON A LOCAL ROAD WHEN THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT SEEMINGLY DEPLOYED. I WAS NOT IN A COLLISION AND THERE WAS NO REASON FOR IT TO DEPLOY. UPON EXAMINING THE MECHANISM IT WAS NOT TRIGGERED, RATHER IT FAILED BECAUSE THE PLASTIC CLIPS THAT HELD ONTO THE LATCH HAD BROKEN OFF INTERNALLY CAUSING THE HEADREST TO HIT ME VIOLENTLY IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN FAR WORSE HAD I NOT BEEN ALMOST AT A COMPLETE STOP.
FRONT PASSENGER ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT DEPLOYED SPONTANEOUSLY OVERNIGHT WITH CAR PARKED IN DRIVEWAY. WEATHER WAS COOL, THERE WAS NO IMPACT TO ANY PART OF THE CAR, NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, THE DRIVER SIDE HEAD RESTRAINT DID NOT DEPLOY. BROKEN PLASTIC HOOKS IN THE DEPLOYED HEADREST MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO RESET THE DEPLOYED HEADREST. IF THIS SPONTANEOUS DEPLOYMENT HAD HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN IT WOULD CLEARLY HAVE CAUSED A DANGEROUS DISTRACTION. IF THE DRIVER SIDE HEADREST DEPLOYS SPONTANEOUSLY WHILE THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN IT WOULD CAUSE A VERY DANGEROUS DISTRACTION AND POSSIBLY INJURY TO THE DRIVER MOST LIKELY RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT OR COLLISION. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS SITUATION ON THE INTERNET AND I HAVE IDENTIFIED MULTIPLE SIMILAR SPONTANEOUS DEPLOYMENTS DUE TO MATERIAL FATIGUE REPORTED ON FORUMS, WITH NO EFFORT BY FIAT CHRYSLER TO REMEDIATE THE PROBLEM. MY LOCAL JEEP DEALER REFUSES TO REPLACE THE HEADREST AS MY JEEP IS OUT OF WARRANTY. IN MY OPINION, THIS REPRESENTS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE ACTIVE HEADREST THAT COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH IF THE DEPLOYMENT WERE TO HAPPEN WHILE THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN.
I HAVE OWNED 5 JEEP CHEROKEES AND THIS HAS TO BE A LEMON.I PURCHASES IT NEW. I HAVE HAD MANY MANY RECALLS, MOST MAJOR. RECENTLY I HEARD WATER SPLASHING UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT, WHICH RESULTED IN WATER COMING INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOODING THE CARPET. I WAS TOLD THAT THE BOX HOLDING THE BATTERY WAS WHERE THE WATER WAS LOCATED. THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON IT FOR TWO DAYS AND CAN NOT FIND WHERE THE WATER IS ENTERING. NOW THEY ARE PREPARING TO REMOVE THE TRIM FOR A POSSIBLE LOCATION. THEY CHECKED WITH MY EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY AND THEY SAID THIS WAS NOT COVERED. I AM AFRAID THIS ISSUE WILL CAUSE A FIRE IN THE VEHICLE SINCE THE WATER IS ENTERING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I WAS TOLD NO RECALL FROM CHRYSLER ADDRESSES THIS MAJOR ISSUE WITH JEEPS, EVEN THOUGH IS IS COMMON. I AM AFRAID TO LOOK AT MY BILL IF THEY EVER FIND THE LEAK. WE HAVE BEEN HAVING MAJOR RAIN HERE IN GEORGIA THIS YEAR AND IT IS NOT USED VERY MUCH, SO IT WAS STATIONARY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. JUST PRIOR TO THE STALL, WARNINGS BRIEFLY FLASHED IN THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. WARNINGS INCLUDED; BATTERY SAVER MODE, ABS SYSTEM FAILURE, SUSPENSION FAILURE. ALL ELECTRONICS IN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED BIZARRE BEHAVIOR AND COULD NOT BE CONTROLLED. ADDITIONALLY THE SPEEDOMETER CONTINUALLY RECYCLED AND THE WIPERS TURNED ON WITH NO INTERVENTION. COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKING OCCURRED. AFTER THE STALL COMPLETED AND THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, A LOUD HIGH-PITCHED TICKING NOISE CAME FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. ADDITIONALLY, A PUNGENT BURNING SMELL AND SMOKE CAME FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DISABLED AND UNRESPONSIVE AND WAS TOWED TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP ON 2018-01-21. A CLAIM WAS FILLED WITH FCA US LLC RECALL DEPARTMENT ON 2018-01-23. AS OF 2018-01-26, THE DEALER IS STILL WAITING FOR FCA US LLC RECALL DEPARTMENT TO RESPOND. AS OF 2018-01-26, THE PARTS ARE STILL NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR THIS RECALL. T36 / NHTSA 17V-435 RECALL SUMMARY 'THE ALTERNATOR ON YOUR VEHICLE MAY EXPERIENCE DIODE THERMAL FATIGUE FAILURE DUE TO CYCLICAL LOADS INDUCED BY EHPS. WHEN THE DIODES FAIL, THE ALTERNATOR WILL NO LONGER SUPPLY ELECTRICAL ENERGY TO THE VEHICLE AND MAY LEAD TO A VEHICLE STALL WITHOUT WARNING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AS WE EXITED AND WALKED INSIDE MY HOUSE. IT WAS IN PARK, E BRAKE WAS ON..AS WE ENTERED THE HOUSE, THE JEEP ROLLED INTO THE CAR AHEAD OF MINE DOWN THE DRIVEWAY ON IT'S OWN AND CRASHED. THERE IS SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE. I HAVE THIS ON VIDEO FROM MY SECURITY CAMERAS.
I HAD REACHED INTO THE STORAGE AND OUTLET TREY IN THE CENTER COUNSEL WHILE GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. MY JACKET SLEEVE APPARENTLY HIT THE GEAR SHIFT AND BUMPED IT INTO NEUTRAL. WHEN I REALIZE WHAT WAS HAPPENING I HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKE AND PUSH THE BUTTON ON THE GEAR SHIFTER TO RETURN IT TO DRIVE. I REACH IN THIS STORAGE TRAY MANY TIME A DAY AND HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE, JUST NOT GOING 70 MPH ON A HIGHWAY. IF THIS STICK IS HIGHLY PROGRAMMABLE, WHY CAN IT NOT BE PROGRAMED TO REQUIRE ME TO PUSH THE GEAR SHIFT BUTTON TO CHANGE FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL?? THIS IS DANGEROUS AND DISTRACTING WHEN DRIVING. THEIR IS NOT MUCH ROOM FOR YOUR ARM TO REACH OVER THE SHIFTER TO RETRIEVE ITEMS IN THE TREY.
HEAD REST DRIVERS SIDE DEPLOYED WHILE CAR PARKED IN GARAGE NO MOVEMENT AT ALL
I WAS DRIVING DOWN MY NEIGHBORHOOD STREET WHEN THE STABILITY CONTROL INDICATOR STARTING CHIMING THAT THE SYSTEM WAS TURNED OFF. MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS THEN TURNED ON AUTOMATICALLY AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF, THE HEADLIGHT INDICATOR TURNED AS WELL. WHEN I ARRIVED HOME I LET THE JEEP SIT FOR A LITTLE WHILE UNTIL I RESTARTED IT. THE SAME THINGS HAPPENED EXCEPT THIS TIME THE ABS BRAKES WARNING LIGHTED UP AS WELL AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 52,000.
RECALL ON JEEP ALTERNATOR AND BRAKE BOOSTER WATER SHIELD. MY COMPLAINT IS THE LENGTH OF TIME IN GETTING THE PARTS. THE ALTERNATOR WENT OUT AND IT HAS BEEN SITTING AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 11 DAYS NOW AND PARTS ARE STILL NOT RELEASED FROM CHRYSLER. THEY WILL NOT GIVE ME A RENTAL. WHAT IS A PERSON TO DO? EXCEPT PAY 800$ AND THEN FIGHT CHRYSLER TO GET MY MONEY BACK.
THE TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE HAS BEGUN TO FAIL RESULTING IN DELAYED OR NO ENGINE TURNOVER WHEN IGNITION BUTTON IS PUSHED WHILE PARKED (ALTHOUGH REMOTE START ON KEY FOB WORKS FINE, BATTERY IS FINE AND STARTER IS FINE), DRIVER SEAT MOVING ON ITS OWN WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, HEADLIGHTS FAILING AT NIGHT WHILE DRIVING ON SUBURBAN STREETS, ETC.
THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE CROSSING INTO A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY.THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RE-START FOR OVER A MINUTE ALL WHILE DISABLED IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE CHECK ENGINE LINE CAME ON, THE CLUSTER DISPLAY SHOWED NUMEROUS WARNINGS INCLUDING SERVICE THROTTLE CONTROL.
CHRYSLER WILL NOT COVER A MALFUNCTION IN THEIR SEAT BELTS. THEY ARE DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR SEAT BELT NOT WORKING AND WILL NOT COVER THEIR PARTS UNDER ANY WARRANTIES LEAVING ME TO DRIVE AROUND WITH A NON-WORKING SEAT BELT. IF THE ISSUE WAS BECAUSE OF MY DOING I WOULD BE MORE WILLING TO PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED - THE PROBLEM IS THEIR PLASTICS BREAK WITHOUT NOTICE (PICTURE ATTACHED). I HAVE A BARELY 4 YEAR OLD CAR AND THE SEAT BELT IS ALREADY BROKEN AND HAVE GOTTEN NO HELP FROM ANY JEEP DEALERSHIP. I WAS UNDER THE ASSUMPTION IT WAS FEDERAL LAW TO MANDATE A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON SEAT BELTS SINCE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V435000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER (BROWNS JEEP CHRYSLER DODGE RAM IN PATCHOGUE, NEW YORK) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE RECALL AND STATED THAT THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BATTERY INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND DISPLAYED "LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE" AND "BATTERY SAVER MODE". THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
BLIND SPOT MONITORING GOES OUT EVERY DAY. THE AMOUNT OF TIME FROM STARTING THE VEHICLE TO WHEN IT STOPS WORKING VARIES, FROM IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING THE CAR TO AS MUCH AS 30 MINUTES AFTER. THERE DOESN'T APPEAR TO BY ANY SPECIFIC SCENARIO CAUSING IT.
