TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. ON MAY 29, 2007, WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY LOST POWER. SHE STATED THAT SHE WAS ALMOST INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS CRASH WITH SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHE PICKED UP THE VEHICLE FROM THE SHOP ON JUNE 6, 2007, IT WAS NOT IN THE SAME WORKING CONDITION AS BEFORE IT WAS BROUGHT IN FOR THE FAN BELT RECALL REPAIR. SHE STATED THAT THE WHEELS WERE LOOSE AND THE AIR CONDITIONER PRODUCED A BURNING SMELL WHEN ACTIVATED. THE DEALER REMEDIED THE RECALL, HOWEVER, THEY STATED THAT THERE WERE OTHER POTENTIAL FAILURES THAT NEEDED ATTENTION. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT OFFERED ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER VEHICLE IS BRAND NEW AND SHE HAS ALREADY RECEIVED SEVEN RECALL NOTICES. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 13,000. The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormal sound. The contact stated that all 4 windows had detached from the track. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the contact that the failure was a common failure. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,707.
AIR LEAK IN FUEL SYSTEM. REQUIRES REGULAR PURGING. COULD LEAD TO AN UNSAFE BREAKDOWN. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT DIRECTLY TO THE FLOOR WHEN HE DEPRESSED THE PEDAL. WHEN HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AS WELL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH A DIESEL MOTORED VEHICLE AND HE WAS ISSUED REFERENCE NUMBER 16527339. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 23,470 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000.
PASSENGER DOOR WINDOW FELL DOWN. LINKAGE/REGULATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THE WINDOWS, ON ALL 4 DOORS, 3-4 TIMES EACH. THIS JUST HAPPENED AGAIN TO THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW ON 5-10-15.
DURING THESE SEVEN YEARS THE SYSTEM ARE BROKEN CRYSTALS HAVE ARRANGED MORE THAN TWICE PER GLASS AND STILL THE SAME PROBLEM WILL FALL BY ITSELF OR DURING THESE DRIVING PARKED I UNDERSTAND IT'S A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM SINCE THE WARRANTY IS RUNNING OUT CONTINUES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM I UNDERSTAND IT IS A FAILURE OF THE MATERIAL THAT MADE ??THE SYSTEM THAT IS NOT USUAL IS THE SAME PIECE THAT HOLDS THE GLASS IS ITS POSITION TO RAISE OR LOWER BY THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND THE ENGINE IS STILL WORKING BUT CAN NOT DO ANYTHING TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO TELL YOU WHICH IS THE SYSTEM THAT IS BROKEN RAILS I UNDERSTAND THAT SHOULD CHANGE THE MATERIAL THAT IS MANUFACTURED OR SEEK A PERMANENT SOLUTION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW HAD FALLEN INTO THE DOOR PANEL ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE WINDOW REGULATOR WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR THE FAILURE RECURRED ELEVEN DIFFERENT TIMES ON THE FRONT AND REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
I OWN A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. I HAVE TWO ISSUES. FIRST ONE IS THE REAR BRAKES. I REPLACED MY BRAKE PADS AT 34000 MILES TO FIND MY REAR OUTER BRAKE CALIPERS WERE NOT MAKING CONTACT WITH THE ROTOR ON EITHER WHEEL. THE SVC MGR AT GRINDSTAFF OF ELIZABETHTON, TN TOLD ME MY ROTORS WERE WARPED. THERE IS NO WAY THIS SHOULD HAPPEN AT 34000 MILES. I DRIVE 95% FOUR LANE HIGHWAY MILES TO WORK - NO RED LIGHTS AT ALL. YOU CAN SEE BY LOOKING AT THE ROTORS THE OUTER BRAKE PADS HAVE NEVER MADE CONTACT WITH THE ROTORS. WHEN THE OTHER SIX PADS WERE REPLACED THE OUTER REAR BRAKE PADS WERE NOT WORN ONE BIT AND THE OUTER BRAKE CONTACT SURFACE OF THE ROTOR IS NOT WORN AT ALL. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THE BRAKE ACTUATOR SOLENOID. MY JEEP WILL NOT COME OUT OF PARK WHEN IT GETS EXTREMELY HOT INSIDE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT RUNNING THE A/C ABOUT 10 MINS. TO COOL THE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY OFF A LITTLE. IT STICKS IN PARK AND WILL NOT COME OUT. THE SAME DEALER TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT BECAUSE IT'S AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM EVEN WITH IT STILL UNDER WARRANTY (REPORTED AT 33000 MILES). THE SERVICE MGR AT GRINDSTAFF IN ELIZABETHTON, TN SAID THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PARTS BECAUSE IT WAS ONLY AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. I AM VERY DISSATISFIED WITH THE RELIABILITY OF THIS VEHICLE. BOTH PROBLEMS I HAVE ARE SAFETY ISSUES, FACTORY DESIGN ISSUES AND DEALER WARRANTY COMPLIANCE. *JB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY RENEGADE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE LOWER BALL JOINTS ON APRIL 2, 2007. AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE,THE DEALER AGREED TO GIVE THE CONTACT THE 2006 VEHICLE IN EXCHANGE FOR THE 2005 JEEP LIBERTY DUE TO RELATED LOWER BALL JOINT FAILURES. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE 2006 JEEP LIBERTY AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO DEACTIVATE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, AND MAKING A SHARP TURN, THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL DID NOT HELP TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS14,000, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100.*AK

THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE UNTIL I CAME HERE...I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS A PLACE TO FILE A COMPLAINT.. IF I FILL UP MY CAR IT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY STOP .. WINDOWS FALLING INTO DOOR. SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, ALL OF THE WINDOWS AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER HAVE FALLEN INTO THE DOOR, SOME OF THEM 2 TIMES. I HAVE HAS THEM FIXED 7 TIMES. WINDOW REGULATOR NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. *TR

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A NEW 2006 JEEP LIBERTY AND HAVE HAD REPEATED PROBLEM WITH THE ROLLOVER PROTECTION PROGRAM SAFETY SYSTEM. HERE'S WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING: I WOULD BE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET IN A STRAIGHT LINE, SAY 30 MPH, AND THE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHTS WOULD GO ON, THEN MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WOULD BEGIN FIRING BECAUSE THEY THINK THAT THE CAR IS ABOUT TO ROLL OVER. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THIS WOULD STOP. BUT AFTER THAT, SOMETIMES THE BRAKES LOCKED UP ALTOGETHER. OTHER TIMES DRIVING WENT BACK TO NORMAL EXCEPT FOR THE WARNING LIGHT STAYING ON. IT'S A LITTLE SCARY AND MORE THAN A LITTLE DANGEROUS FOR YOUR BRAKES TO LOCK UP THIS WAY. THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR WEEKS. I SPENT HUNDREDS ON RENTAL CARS. AND I HAD TO REPLACE MY BACK BRAKES AT 16,000 MILES. I BELIEVE THAT WAS DUE TO THIS SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONING. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. THIS IS A VITAL SAFETY SYSTEM, BUT THE DEALER AND JEEP DON'T REALLY WANT TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. *JB

THE DEALER/MECHANIC REPLACED THE STEERING SENSOR, AS WELL AS THE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINTS. WITHIN A HALF MILE AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT TURN LEFT, AND SHE HEARD A GRINDING NOISE. THE TRACTION CONTROL SENSOR CAME ON. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER\MANUFACTURER AND THE STEERING SENSOR WAS CHANGED AGAIN ALONG WITH THE REAR BRAKE SENSOR. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO HAVE STEERING PROBLEMS. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER/MANUFACTURER. *AK
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE 2006 JEEP LIBERTY 4X4 CAUGHT ON FIRE ON 03/13/07. WHILE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE HAZARD LIGHTS DIDN'T WORK, THE RADIO SHUT OFF, AND ALL OF THE COMPONENTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LOST POWER. HE SAW SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD, AND WITHIN A MINUTE THE FRONT END WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SHOWED UP TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. BOTH THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS FILED REPORTS, AND THE CONTACT HAD ACCESS TO THEM. THE CONTACT WAS STILL WAITING FOR THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER TO GET INFORMATION ON THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE, BUT THE VEHICLEWAS NOTED AS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOCAL NEWS MENTIONED A RECALL 06V036000 FOR THE 2006 TWO WHEEL DRIVE SPORT JEEP LIBERTY CONCERNING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: WIRING: FRONT UNDER THE HOO. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE 4X4 SHOULD ALSO BE ON THIS RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE BOTH 3100 MILES.*AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACTIVATE THE AUTOMATIC WINDOW REGULATOR WHICH FAILED TO OPERATE. THE CONTACT INFORMED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER, REAR PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE WINDOW REGULATORS AND WINDOW GLASS WERE REPLACED AT DIFFERENT TIMES BY THE DEALER UNDER THE SERVICE WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EXPENSE OF THE WINDOW GLASS REPLACEMENTS WHICH WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. RECENTLY, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR MALFUNCTIONED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,391.
I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM JEEP ABOUT A SAFETY RECALL FOR THE LOWER BALL JOINT, I CALL MY DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT IT WOULD BE 3-4 MONTHS BEFORE THE PART CAME IN. 3-4 MONTHS I THEN CALLED DAIMLER CHRYSLER THEY SAID I COULD WAIT OR CALL OTHER DEALERS TO SEE HOW LONG THEIR WAIT IS. IT WAS THE SAME STORY WITH THEM. ON THE RECALL IT STATED IN BOLD LETTERS "THIS CAN CAUSE THE BALL JOINT TO CORRODE AND SEPARATE. BALL JOINT SEPARATION CAN RESULT IN A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. MY COMPLAINT IS I HAVE TO WAIT 3-4 MONTHS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM WHILE THIS PLACES ME AND MY FAMILY AT RISK. *JB
ON 2006 JEEP LIBERTY RENEGADE ACTIVATES FOR NO APPARENT REASON, CAUSING VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER/CHOKE OUT/STUMBLE ON ACCELERATION. PROBLEM OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY UP TO 3 OR 4 TIMES A WEEK. TENDED TO HAPPEN OFTEN WHEN GOING AROUND CORNERS IN 1ST OR 2ND GEAR, AND SOMETIMES WHEN JUST GOING STRAIGHT. SOMETIMES THE LIGHT WILL FLASH WHILE THE LOSS OF POWER OCCURED, BUT SOMETIMES NOT.. WHEN THIS OCCURRED PAVEMENT WAS DRY AND THERE WERE NO ABRUPT MANUEVERS NO REASON FOR THIS SYSTEM TO ACTIVATE. THIS WAS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. PURCHASED VEHICLE NEW FROM DEALER IN NOVEMBER '06. DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED PROBLEM IN MARCH '07 , CLAIMING THEY WERE WAITING FOR A SOFTWARE UPDATE FROM CHRYSLER. IN JUNE '07 I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM AGAIN, AND I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WERE NO TSBS, NO CODES, AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM . THEY DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE"THE PROBLEM THIS TIME. THEY ACKNOWLEDGED IT IN WRITING ON MY SERVICE RECEIPT IN MARCH). EVEN ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE DEALER TODAY IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN I EXITED AN OFF RAMP FROM THE HIGHWAY. *AK
WHILE DOING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE I NOTICED DIESEL FUEL LEAKING OUT OF THE FUEL HEATER CONNECTOR LOCATED IN THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING. I PULLED THE CONNECTOR OFF AND FOUND IT PARTIALLY DAMAGED BY EXCESS HEAT AT THE CONNECTOR TERMINAL AND WET WITH FUEL. I LEFT THE CONNECTOR DISCONNECTED FROM THE HOUSING UNTIL I HAD THE DEALER REPLACE THE FILTER HOUSING ASSEMBLY UNDER WARRANTY. THE BURNED/DAMAGED CONNECTOR WAS NOT REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP WHEN THE HOUSING WAS REPLACED. I DON'T HAVE THE OLD HOUSING, BUT I COULD TAKE A PICTURE OF THE DAMAGED CONNECTOR/TERMINAL THAT WAS STILL ON THE VEHICLE. ALSO, I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS EXCESS AIR IN THE FILTER HOUSING BEFORE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE HOUSING. AFTER THE HOUSING WAS REPLACED THERE WAS STILL EXCESS AIR, BUT NOT NEARLY AS MUCH AS BEFORE. WHILE THE CONNECTOR WAS OFF, AND I WAS WAITING FOR THE REPLACEMENT PART THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START 2 SEPARATE TIMES BECAUSE AIR WAS ENTERING THROUGH THE CONNECTOR. I HAD TO PUMP THE PRIMER THAT WAS INSTALLED ON THE FILTER HOUSING TO GET THE VEHICLE STARTED BOTH TIMES.*AK
I PURCHASED MY 2006 JEEP LIBERTY IN JANUARY 2007. A FEW MONTHS LATER 3 OF THE AUTOMATIC WINDOWS WOULD NOT WORK. DEALER REPLACED THE ACTUATOR FOR FREE. SINCE THEN 2 MY WINDOWS HAVE BEEN STUCK GOING UP LIKE THEY ARE OFF TRACK. DRIVER SIDE FRONT AND BACK WINDOW NEED TO HAVE ACTUATOR REPLACED AGAIN. BACK DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FELL COMPLETELY DOWN AND WON'T ROLL UP. PASSENGER FRONT WINDOW HAS NEEDED NEW ACTUATOR BECAUSE IT SOMETIMES WON'T ROLL UP. I WILL BE FINALLY TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND HOPEFULLY GETTING THE ACTUATORS REPLACED FOR FREE SINCE THEY HAVE BEEN DEFECTIVE THE ENTIRE TIME I HAVE OWNED THE CAR. THERE ARE LOTS OF LITTLE PIECES HERE AND THERE THAT FALL OFF THE CAR AND LITTLE THINGS THAT DON'T WORK. IT IS REALLY A VERY CHEAPLY MADE CAR. *TR

THE DEALER HD S NOT NOTIFIED THE CONTACT, AND THE FAILURE WAS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 11,000. *AK
SENT A RECALL NOTICE FROM CHRYSLER JEEP STATING THE BALL JOINTS ARE BEING RECALLED AND THIS PROBLEM COULD CAUSE LOSS OF STEERING CAUSING A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING. WHEN I CALLED TO MAKE AN APPT TO HAVE MY CAR FIXED I WAS ADVISED THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER FOR A "FEW WEEKS". *NM
REPLACEMENT OF CONTROL ARM LOWER BALL JOINT JEEP LIBERTY ..APPARENTLY THERE ARE NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO REPAIR AND THIS COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO CRASH. *NM

THE CONTAC T FOLLOWED UP WITH THE DEALER THREE TO 4 WEEKS AGO, AND WAS TOLD THAT SHE WAS NUMBER14 ON THE LIST. THE OWNER WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK AND POSSIBILITY OF THE FAILURE THA TCOULD RESULT IN A CRASH. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 9,800. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE.*AK UPDATED 03/19/07. *JB

AFTER PURCHASING MY DIESEL JEEP I NOTICED A SHUDDERING IN THE TRANSMISSION AT ABOUT 55-65 MILES AN HOUR. CONSIDERABLY WORSE WITH YOU DECELERATE AFTER ACCELERATION. IN A CONSTRUCTION HOLD ON TRAFFIC MY VEHICLE IDLED FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES. WHEN I WAS CLEARED TO MOVE FORWARD I PUT THE GEAR SELECTOR IN DRIVE. THE JEEP STALLED. IT TOOK ME A SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE MOTOR. I HAVE DONE EXTENSIVE RESEARCH AND HAVE COME UP WITH ONE ANSWER. AIR IS IN THE FUEL. MY WIFE CONTACTED ME THIS MORNING COMPLAINING THE JEEP WOULDN'T START. I WALKED TO WHERE SHE WAS AND CHECKED OUT THE ENGINE. I NOTICED FUEL AROUND THE FUEL FILTER MOUNT; I BLED THE FUEL SYSTEM AND THE VEHICLE STARTED. I GOT IT HOME AND CHECK A LITTLE FURTHER AND NOTICED FUEL LEAKING OUT OF THE FUEL HEATER PLUG. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY. APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS AFTER I PURCHASED THE NEW VEHICLE THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. AT THAT TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WAS SAID TO BE REPAIRED. SINCE THAT FAILURE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT RUNNING PROPERLY: THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DID NOT SEEM TO BE SHIFTING SMOOTHLY. FOR THE NEXT 8 MONTHS I TRIED TO HAVE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPAIR THE PROBLEM BUT THEY DID NOT, THE TOLD ME THE "PROBLEM" WAS NORMAL. IN JANUARY 2007, I NOTICED THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION WAS GETTING WORSE. I HAD TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR MORE THAN NORMAL TO GET THE CAR TO SHIFT AFTER MAKING A STOP. THE CAR WOULD THEN JERK INTO GEAR WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE ACCELERATOR AND I WOULD SPEED UP MORE THAN WAS SAFE. THE FINAL INCIDENT WAS WHEN I WAS ACCELERATING TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER A STOP AND THE CAR JERKED INTO GEAR ALONG WITH MAKING A CLUNKING SOUND. BECAUSE I WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE, WHEN THE CAR JERKED INTO GEAR I WAS SENT OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THANK GOODNESS THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I DROVE TO THE NEAREST SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS QUICKLY DIAGNOSED AS A TORQUE CONVERTER PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS IN FOR REPAIRS FOR 22 DAYS BEFORE I GOT IT BACK. PARTS WERE REPLACED IN THE TRANSMISSION BUT ONLY AFTER APPROVAL FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING A LITTLE BETTER BUT IT IS STILL NOT RUNNING LIKE IT WAS WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM CAN BE DEADLY AND I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. *NM

THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACTIVATE THE WINDOW MECHANISM. HOWEVER, THE WINDOW FAILED TO OPERATE UPWARDLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE SERVICE WARRANTY. THE REPAIR PART WAS UNKNOWN. ALSO, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WOULD NOT FUNCTION IN AN UPWARD POSITION. DESCRIPTION : THE VEHICLE IS A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY 4X4 EQUIPPED WITH THE 2.8L CRD (DIESEL ENGINE). FROM AN INTERSECTION AT A COMPLETE STOP, I PROCEEDED TO TURN LEFT INTO ANOTHER STREET. I ACCELERATED TO APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST. ALL POWER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE ENGINE BEGAN TO HESITATE AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT GO FASTER THAN 5 MPH. IT COULD ONLY LIMP ALONG AT THIS SPEED WHILE I ATTEMPTED TO GET OFF THE ROAD. THIS CREATED A SERIOUS CONDITION FOR OTHER DRIVERS TO ATTEMPTING TO AVOID MY VEHICLE UNTIL I COULD REACH A SECTION A THAT ALLOWED ME TO PULL-OFF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE THEN STALLED WHEN I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER A FEW MINUTES, AND IT RAN IN A NORMAL MANNER. I SUBSEQUENTLY CONTINUED MY TRIP WITHOUT ANY OTHER INCIDENTS. THIS IS A VERY DISCONCERTING DEFECT BECAUSE IT EXHIBITS NO SIGNS THAT ALLOW THE OPERATOR TO TAKE PREVENTATIVE ACTIONS TO AVOID POSSIBLE ACCIDENT DURING ROAD USE. *NM
WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 JEEP LIBERTY ON THE INTERSTATE. THE POWER STEERING FAILED AS I WAS EXITING THE EXPRESSWAY. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER INFORMED TOLD ME THAT HE KNEW ABOUT THE "JEEP LIBERTY" PROBLEM. THAT HE IS CURRENTLY PICKING UP AT LEAST 1 JEEP LIBERTY PER DAY DUE TO FAILED POWER STEERING. HE MENTIONED THAT HE THOUGHT THAT THE CURRENT DESIGN CAUSES THE BELT TO JUST SLIP OFF. HE THEN RAISED THE HOOD AND SHOWED ME THAT THE BELT WAS INTACT BUT JUST OFF AND WAS LYING ON ANOTHER PART OF THE ENGINE. HE MENTIONED THAT THE DEALER SHOULD SEE AND REPAIR THE PROBLEM; HOWEVER IT MAY COME OFF AGAIN. HE TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS THAT SAME PROBLEM THAT HE WAS SEEING WITH THE OTHER JEEPS THAT HE IS TOWING, THE BELT JUST SLIPS OFF. I DO NOT MAKE MANY ROAD TRIPS, JUST BACK AND FORTH TO WORK AND MY DAUGHTER'S VOLLEYBALL PRACTICE. WE WERE RETURNING FROM VOLLEYBALL AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. WHENEVER I FILL UP THE GAS TANK WITH GAS THE FILLER TUBE OVER FLOWS WITH GAS AND DOES NOT ALLOW THE FUEL PUMP TO CUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW. GAS GUSHES OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE AND DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND CREATES A LARGE POOL OF GASOLINE ON THE GROUND. THIS ACTION CAN BE EASILY REPEATED.
