As of this morning, I’ve had both ball joints on the front suspension snap, making the vehicle undrivable.

Subject: Inquiry Regarding Ball Joint and Control Arm Issues on My 2007 Jeep Liberty Dear support tech, I am writing to express my concerns regarding recurring issues with my 2007 Jeep Liberty, specifically with the driver-side ball joint and control arm. In 2019, I had the driver-side ball joint replaced at Firestone. However, on [XXX], I experienced a serious issue when the wheel became stuck while reversing out of a parking space. Fortunately, it occurred at low speed, and the vehicle was towed through my insurance. A family member was able to fix it temporarily. More recently, on February 25, 2025, I had new wheels installed at Firestone, where I was informed that there is an issue with both the front control arm and the left and right ball joints. Given that I don’t drive at high speeds and use the vehicle less frequently now, this seems unusual and concerning. I’ve seen reports about similar issues with same model and year (Reddit, jeep forums). Could this be a recurring problem specific to the Liberty model as I have seen there’s a recall for 2002-2006? I genuinely love my vehicle, but I’m growing frustrated with the ongoing repairs and costs. Ball joint & control arm suspension failure twice in 3 years
Brakes were locking up as I was driving the vehicle. ABS module needs reprogramming. Mechanic inspected, he states the brakes could lock up without this update only available from Chryslar. This repair is in a recall but not for my vin number. I have been told my vehicle is unsafe to drive. ABS light on in gauge cluster.
Been over 30 days since vehicle was inspected for a recall that requires installing a tow hitch. Manufacturer will not provide an ETA for parts however I can go thru various other methods to obtain parts needed within a few days. Seems like manufacturer is stalling and not wanting to fix issue.
Pulling away from getting gas I heard and felt a loud bang. Could not turn my wheel much. Something was scraping the ground. I got out and saw my lower ball on the driver's front broke off slightly pulling my cv joint. Sat for hours until I got a tow back home. I'm lucky I wasn't on the highway, I could have died. Doesn't show a recall but I just purchased this car. Have had nothing but issues.

MY WINDOWS WILL NOT ROLL UP AND DOWN. IF I ROLL THEM DOWN THEY WILL NOT COME BACK UP. MY AIR CONDITIONING WENT OUT AND I HAD TO DRIVE , 45 MINUTES, HOME IN 105 DEGREE HEAT WITH NO RECOURSE . I COULD HAVE PASSED OUT! THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE WINDOWS PARTS BUT I BOUGHT MY JEEP USED AND THE RECALL ENDED BEFORE I PURCHASED IT. IF CHRYSLER DIAMLER KNOWS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE THERE SHOULD BE NO END DATE TO THE RECALL. EVERY VEHICLE SHOULD BE REPAIRED. WHAT IF I HAD A BABY OR CHILD WITH ME?
Pulled into a parking lot. Heard a loud crunch and then the front of my vehicle dipped down. I put my vehicle in Park. Got out and realized that my tire was separated from my vehicle. The ball joint had completely separated.

For the 3rd time in the last 3 years the control arm has had to be replaced on this vehicle! I have been driving with my children in the car when the control arm snapped and made my car un drivable ! There was no warning lamp!

FRONT BALL JOINTS/CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY BROKE ON PASSENGER SIDE CAUSING ACCIDENT.

The front control arms broke 2 times within the last 2 years from corrosion! No warning lights
12/8/2020: MY DAUGHTER HAD JUST RETURNED HOME FROM COLLEGE LITERALLY THAT MORNING DRIVING THROUGH NYC TO DE. THAT AFTERNOON SHE WENT OUT TO SEE A FRIEND AND THOUGHT SHE HAD A FLAT TIRE WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 50 MPH AND STRUGGLED TO PULL OVER. IT WAS AT NIGHT SO WE COULDN'T SEE THE DAMAGE. WE CALLED AAA TO COME CHANGE THE TIRE. HE EXAMINED THE FLUID UNDER THE TIRE AND THEN IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT TIRE ROD FELL AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. WE COULD ALSO SEE A LONG BLACK TRAIL WHERE THE TIRE ROD DRAGGED ON THE ROAD BEFORE SHE COULD STOP. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID IF SHE DIDN'T STOP WHEN SHE DID SHE WOULD HAVE FELL INTO THE DEEP DITCH NEXT TO IT AND IT WOULD HAVE FLIPPED OVER. CONSIDERING IT WAS DARK SHE WAS LUCKY AND EVEN LUCKIER THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY IN NYC ONLY A FEW HOURS EARLIER. BUT WHAT WAS EVEN MORE DISTURBING IS THE FRONT UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS WERE JUST REPLACE THE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARMS DUE TO CORROSION WAS DONE AT THE DEALER, ALONG WITH AN ALIGNMENT. (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V278000). IT'S CLEAR THAT THE RECALL SHOULD ALSO INCLUDE REPLACING THE FRONT CONTROL ARMS. THE WINDOW REGULATOR ALSO FAILED THE WEEK BEFORE.
POOR PERFORMANCE FROM THE FRONT END SUSPENSION MAKING TURNING THE CAR DANGEROUS.
VEHICLE WAS ON THE OFF RAMP OF THE HIGHWAY WHEN A LOUD BANG WAS HEARD AND FRONT LEFT TIRE WENT FLAT. WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SHOULDER AND STOP. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THE TIRE WAS FLAT DUE TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOWER BALL JOINT SEPARATED AND THE BOLT OF THE LOWER BALL JOINT ON THE LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS DRIVEN INTO THE INSIDE OF THE RIM AND PUNCTURING A HOLE INTO THE RIM. HAD THIS HAPPENED A FEW SECONDS EARLIER, WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, IT COULD HAVE HAD CATASTROPHIC RESULTS, CAUSING A CRASH, PERSONAL INJURY OR EVEN DEATH.
My front lower Control Arm was replaced for corrosian in June 2019, broke in August 2020, and is being replaced again due to corrosion April 2022! This car is a danger to my family as well as other on the road!
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK TO GET MY DAUGHTER AND WENT TO TURN ONTO ANOTHER ROAD, HEARD A POP AND THEN DIDN'T HAVE CONTROL OF THE CAR. THE REAR CONTROL ARM BROKE OFF.
ON 5/15/2020 MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING OUR JEEP LOCALLY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE DRIVERS SIDE SUSPENSION GAVE OUT AND LANDED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE TIRE. THE TIRE TURNED INWARD HE HAD NO CONTROL OF THE STEERING. HE WAS ONLY DOING MAYBE 30MPH IF HE HAD BEEN GOING ANY FASTER HE COULD'VE BEEN KILLED. IT COSTS US $700 TO REPAIR BOTH SIDES AND IS STILL AT THE GARAGE BEING WORKED ON. MY HUSBAND WAS ON A 1 WAY 4 LANE BRIDGE HE MANAGED TO GET IT HALFWAY OUT OF THE LANE BLOCKING TRAFFIC THE POLICE CAME TO DIVERT TRAFFIC UNTIL THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED. *TR
I HAD A RECALL REPAIR AFTER I RECEIVED THE LETTER IN THE MAIL SO I WENT AND HAD IT SERVICED AFTER I WAITED FOR THE BACKORDER. I HAD THE REAR LOWER SUSPENSION ARMS DONE AS IN THE RECALL AT SECRET CITY DODGE IN OAK RIDGE TN. I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED A WEIRD CREAKING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR AND I TOOK IT BACK AND EXPLAINED TO THEM AND THEY SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING. I BROUGHT IT TO ANOTHER SHOP AND HAD THEM INSPECT AND THEY SAID THAT THEY DIDN'T TORQUE THEM RIGHT AND THE NOISE WAS FROM FAULTY PARTS. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY AGAIN SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG AND THEY SPRAYED SOME LUBRICANT ON THE BUSHINGS TO QUIET THE NOISE. IT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING AND MADE ME QUESTION WHY THEY HAD TO DO THAT IF THE PARTS WERE NEW. I TOOK IT IN AGAIN AND THEY AGAIN SENT ME DOWN THE ROAD. WELL AS TIME WENT ON I WAS HAVING MORE PROBLEMS WITH STEERING AND HAVE BEEN TO TO OTHER SHOPS AND HAD BALL JOINTS ALL REPLACED AND EVERY SHOP SAID THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION ARMS WERE NOT GOOD AND I JUST WENT TODAY (JAN 23,2020) AND AND IT LOOKED AT BY A LOCAL REPUTABLE SHOP WHERE I LIVE BECAUSE THE STEERING IS OUT OF CONTROL.. THEY SHOWED ME IN THE BAY WITH MY CAR UP AND THE BACK WHEELS MOVE FORWARD AND BACKWARD BECAUSE OF THE BAD BUSHINGS IN THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS THAT WERE REPLACED BY SECRET CITY DEALERSHIP. THEY ALSO SAID THEY NEED TO BE REPAIRED ASAP AND I GOT THAT IN WRITING FROM THEM. I ALSO HAVE FROM A JEEP SPECIALTY SHOP ABOUT HOW THEY WERE INSTALLED WRONG AND HAVE THAT IN WRITING. I DID NOT WANT TO GET THEM REPLACED BY THE SAME DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THEY ARE TERRIBLE WITH CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AND COULD CARE LESS ABOUT MY SAFETY. I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLE AND IT HASN'T EVER BEEN IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE. I USE IT TO DRIVE LOCALLY AND THAT IS IT. I HAVE CALLED NFSTA SEVERAL TIMES AND AM WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM THEM. PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT. NOT MY FAULT
VEHICLE WAS DRIVING NORMALLY AND WAS IN MOTION GOING STRAIGHT LEAVING A PARKING LOT AND THE FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER CONTROL ARM JUST BROKE WITHOUT WARNING DUE TO CORROSION. THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CONTROL ARM LANDED ONTO THE WHEEL MAKING IT SO THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL COULD NO LONGER TURN. I'M GLAD IT HAPPENED TO ME IN A PARKING LOT AND NOT ON THE HIGHWAY OR I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED.
ALL THE LIGHTS PERTAINING TO THE BREAK ABS AND STABILITY CONTROLS ARE ON. SOMETIMES WHEN BREAKING THE ABS KICKS IN AND WE ARE NOT BREAKING HARD AND ON DRY PAVEMENT ITS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT A MONTH NOW. TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON IT. BUT NOTHING COMES UP ON THIS SITE
ON OCT 4, 2019, AS I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH ON A DRY, SMOOTH ROAD, MY DRIVER'S SIDE LOWER FRONT BALL JOINT FAILED. THE FRONT OF MY CAR DROPPED AS A RESULT, AND I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. I DID NOT STRIKE ANY OTHER VEHICLE OR BARRIER OF ANY KIND.
SINCE THE DAY I GOT THE VEHICLE I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS IT SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP AND ALL LIGHTS ON DASH WOULD LIGHT UP. TURN THE KEY OFF WAIT A MINUTE AND IT WOULD START BACK UP. GROUND WIRE ISSUE, THE DRIVER WINDOW STOPPED WORKING 2X ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. THE POWER SIDE MIRROR DOESNT WORK IT. WHILE DRIVING SWITCHES BETWEEN 2 AND 4 WHEEL DRIVE ON ITS OWN. THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE DOESNT WORK. TRANSFER CASE, LINKAGE CABLE BROKEN. THE PART TIME LIGHT STAY FLASHING OR LITE UP ON THE DASH THE DRIVE SHALF BROKE AND LOWER BALL JOINT BROKE WHILE DRIVING. WHILE DRIVING THE LOSS OF TRACTION LIGHTS UP THE DASH. THE RADIATOR FAN STOPPED WORKING, WATER PUMP BROKEN. THE AC COMPRESSOR AND CLUTCH WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING. IF I LEAVE THE CLIMATE KNOBS TURN ON WHILE VEHICLE NOT IN USE IT DRAINS THE BATTERY, ( THE FORM WOULDN'T ALLOW ME TO CLICK ANY MORE BOXES) I'VE HAD IT TOWED, I BELIEVE THIS WAS A LEMON AND SHOULDN'T OF EVEN BEEN SOLD
TAKATA RECALL. I WAS DRIVING AND THE RIGHT BALL JOINT BROKE AND IT FELL AND POPPED MY TIRE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FOR THE STEERING FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE CONTACT'S BUSINESS. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE STEERING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,682.
FUEL OVERFLOWS & DOESN'T SHUT OFF WHEN FULL! EVERY TIME WE PUT FUEL INTO THE CAR, IT WILL NOT ALLOW THE PUMP TO SHUT OFF WHEN THE TANK BECOMES FULL-NO MATTER HOW SLOW ONE FILLS THE TANK, IT CREATES A FUEL BURP AND POURS GASOLINE OUT & DOWN THE VEHICLE. ALL OF US, INCLUDING OUR YOUNG DRIVER, NEED TO BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS WHEN AT A GAS STATION. VERY VERY UNSAFE COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS!
THE WINDOW REGULATOR HAS BROKEN ON 3/4 OF THE WINDOWS IN THE VEHICLE. ONE WAS REPLACED AT THE DEALERSHIP AT THE COST OF OVER $500 AND NOW THE 2 REAR WINDOWS HAVE BEEN AFFECTED. THERE ARE NUMEROUS FORUMS ONLINE STATING THAT THIS IS A PERSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR MAKE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE.
THE LOWER BALL JOINT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE STEERING KNUCKLE SEPARATED. THE BALL JOINT REMAINED IN THE LOWER CONTROL AND GOUGED THE RIM. THE VEHICLE STEERING IS TOTALLY INOP AS IT IS RESTING ON THE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE BALL JOINT FRACTURED. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE FRONT TWO TIRES SLID WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT NEW CONTROL ARMS, AND THE BALL JOINTS ON BOTH SIDES NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL WAS ALSO REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,588. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE REAR SUSPENSION FRACTURED AS AN ABNORMAL SOUND WAS HEARD. THE CONTACT LOSS CONTROL OF THE STEERING AND COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROADWAY AND THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR DRIVER’S SIDE BALL JOINT HAD FRACTURED. THE FAILURE RECURRED A MONTH LATER WHEN THE REAR PASSENGER’S SIDE SUSPENSION FRACTURED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V278000 (SUSPENSION) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000.
EVERY TIME I PUT FUEL INTO MY CAR THE FUEL CHECK VALVE DOES NOT SHUT OFF CREATING A FUEL BURP AND POURING GASOLINE DOWN THE FENDERS OF MY CAR. MULTIPLE TIMES I HAVE BEEN SPLASHED WITH GASOLINE MYSELF VERY UNSAFE I HAVE READ ON MULTIPLE FORUMS THAT MANY PEOPLE OF THE SAME CAR HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN THERE WAS A BAD POP SOUND LOUD SOUND I DIDN'T KNOW IF I HAD BEEN HIT BY SOMEBODY THROWING SOMETHING OR IF I'D ACTUALLY BEEN SHOT AT AND THEN THE WINDOW SLAMS DOWN IT JUST LITERALLY DISAPPEARS I WASN'T FOR SURE IF IT WAS SHATTERED WITH GLASS FLYING EVERYWHERE SO I HAD TO PULL INTO THE TURNING LANE . IT ALL HAPPENED SO FAST VERY FAST THIS IS MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER'S CAR HAD SHE BEEN DRIVING I FEEL LIKE WE WOULD HAVE BEEN TALKIN ABOUT DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES BECAUSE I BARELY KEPT CONTROL OF THE CAR TO PULL IT TO THE CENTER LANE. NOT TO MENTION BOTH OF THE BACK WINDOWS WILL NOT ROLL UP OR DOWN THERE NOW TAPED WE HAVE OWNED THIS CAR MAY BE 3 MONTHS AT MOST. I JUST WENT TO THE REVIEWS AND YOU CAN LITERALLY READ FOR HOURS ON THE WINDOWS IN THE 2007 AND A FEW OTHER YEAR MODELS IN THE JEEP LIBERTYS IN A COUPLE OTHER MODELS WHERE THEIR WINDOWS LITERALLY DO THIS A LOT I CALLED JEEP TO SEE HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO FIX THEIR WANTING OUTRAGEOUS SOME OF MONEY KNOWING THERE'S AN ISSUE. I WAS SO UPSET I CALL JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE TODAY THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE I COULD ONLY IMAGINE MY DAUGHTER BEING BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THAT STUPID JEEP AND I WAS VERY EMOTIONAL LIKE I SAID I BARELY MYSELF CONTROLLED THE JEEP WELL ENOUGH TO GET IT OFF THE ROAD THIS SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING I ASKED HIM DOES IT TAKE SOMEONE TO DIE TO GET THINGS RECALLED BECAUSE LIKE I SAID YOU CAN LITERALLY READ ONLINE REVIEWS ABOUT THE LIBERTY 2007 FOR HOURS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THESE DON'T HAPPEN JUST WANT SOME PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY REPLACE THEIR WINDOWS MOTORS AND ALL THIS OTHER RIGMOR OR NUMEROUS TIMES I GUESS I SHOULD HAVE READ THE REVIEWS ONLINE BEFORE I GOT IT FOR MY DAUGHTER BECAUSE I DEFINITELY WOULDN'T HAVE GOT IT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A POPPING NOISE EMERGING FROM THE LOWER PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRACTURED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,300.
LOST CONTROL OF BACK END OF VEHICLE , WHILE DRIVING HOME ON A CITY STREET. BROUGHT IT TO A MECHANIC, HE PUT IT ON LIFT AND THERE WAS EXTENSIVE CORROSION ON THE METAL ARMS HOLDING THE FRAME UP.
THIS IS THE 3RD WINDOW LIFT PLATE ON OUR JEEP THAT WE HAVE HAD TO GET REPAIRED . THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $550.00 TO REPLACE THIS ONE ALSO . THIS PROBLEM MAKES US NOT WANT TO OPEN ANY OF OUR WINDOWS, WHICH IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WHICH SHOULD BE UNDER A RECALL. THE TRACK IS PLASTIC AND IT BREAKS A LOT . I'VE HEARD MANY COMPLAINTS FROM UNSATISFIED JEEP OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. WE WERE PARKED AND MY WIFE TRIED TO OPEN THE WINDOW AND IT SNAPPED AND THE POWER WINDOW WOULDN'T ROLL BACK BACK UP AND WE WERE STUCK WITH THE WINDOW HALF WAY UP AND IT WAS 5 DEGREES OUTSIDE...NOT FUN !!!!

THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE LOWER FRAME AND CONTROL ARM WERE RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN AN UNKNOWN RECALL AND SHOULD BE TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000. *BF. CONSUMER WAS TOLD BY THE REPAIR SHOP THE FRONT CROSS MEMBER SUB-FRAME WAS BROKEN. CAR MILES WERE UNDER 10,000 AND THE WAS OVER 10 YEARS OLDS. CONSUMER CALLED THE JEEP CORPORATE OFFUCE ON 3/13/19.
