FUEL OVERFLOW WHEN REFUELING. *TR
WHEN FILLING THE FUEL TANK, THE AUTO SHUT-OFF DOES NOT ENGAGE. THIS IS A HAZARD BECAUSE FUEL SPILLS OVER AND OUT ONTO THE VEHICLE AND SURROUNDING PAVEMENT. *TR
WHEN FUELING MY VEHICLE, THE PUMP STOPS BUT GAS FLOWS OUT OF THE FILLER. I HAVE TO FILL THE TANK VERY SLOWLY TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I GET FUEL. *TR
MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER SPORT HAS A FUEL TANK OVERFLOW ISSUE. WHEN FILLING THE TANK UP IT INEVITABLY OVERFLOWS REGARDLESS OF WHAT STATION, EXISTING FUEL LEVEL OR TYPE OF FILLER NOZZLE. IT IS ALSO MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS ISSUE IS RATHER WIDESPREAD. I INITIALLY BELIEVED THAT SOMETHING HAD SIMPLY BROKEN, BUT AFTER A BIT OF RESEARCH I AM NOT ALONE. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. *TR
ON 4/5/2010 I PURCHASED A USED 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. I DROVE IT FROM IL TO PA. DURING THAT DRIVE I NEEDED TO GET GAS 3 TIMES. EACH TIME I FILLED THE GAS THE TANK OVERFILLED AND FUEL WAS SPILLED. I WENT ONLINE TODAY TO CHECK ON THIS ISSUE AND FOUND MANY OTHERS SEEM TO BE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
ON MARCH 13, 2010, MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER DISPLAYED A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE CODE WAS P0302. WHEN CLEARED, THE CODE DID NOT RETURN AND THE JEEP RAN NORMALLY UNTIL APPROXIMATELY MARCH 26, WHEN IT WENT INTO A "LIMP MODE" (REV LIMITER MOVED TO 2500 RPM) AFTER BEING REVVED TO 4500 RPM. WHEN RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE RAN FINE, ALTHOUGH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CODE WAS P0344. WHEN THE CODE WAS CLEARED, IT DID NOT REAPPEAR. HOWEVER, REVVING THE ENGINE TO 4500 RPM IN ALL GEARS EXCEPT REVERSE (N-1-2-3-4-5-6) REPRODUCED THE ABOVE RESULTS WITHOUT FAIL. ON MARCH 28, A REPLACEMENT CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS ORDERED BY MYSELF, AND WAS INSTALLED ON APRIL 2. AFTER THE INSTALL, REVVING THE ENGINE TO 4500 RPM ONCE AGAIN PUT THE VEHICLE INTO A "LIMP MODE". I MADE THE DECISION TO TAKE THE JEEP TO SOUTH POINT CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP IN AUSTIN, TX. ON MAY 6, I WAS INFORMED THAT STANDARD DIAGNOSTICS COULD NOT FIND THE ISSUE, AND THE DEALER REQUESTED 4 HOURS OF TEAR-DOWN TIME TO INSPECT THE CAMSHAFT AREA FOR DAMAGE BASED ON RECOMMENDATIONS FROM CHRYSLER. UPON APPROVAL, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE OIL PUMP GEAR AND CAMSHAFT WERE HEAVILY DAMAGED POSSIBLY DUE TO CAUSES OUTLINED IN NHTSA ITEM # 10013784. WHEN CHRYSLER WAS CONTACTED FOR THIS, THEY INFORMED ME THAT, ALONG WITH THE FACT THAT THE VIN OF MY JEEP IS OUTSIDE OF THE VIN RANGE OF THE TSB, THERE WAS NO "DEFINITIVE PROOF" THAT THE OIL PUMP GEAR HAD DAMAGED THE CAMSHAFT AS OPPOSED TO VICE VERSA AND THEY WOULD BE UNABLE TO ASSIST IN THE REPAIR COST. I AM REQUESTING AN EXPANDED TSB ON THIS ISSUE, AS THERE APPEARS TO BE MORE PROBLEMS HERE THAN CHRYSLER IS WILLING TO ADMIT. *TR
HELLO, I OWN A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, TRYING TO "MAINTAIN" THE PROPER SPEED LIMIT, MY JEEP WILL DEVELOP A DEATH WOBBLE TO THE FRONT END. THIS ERRATIC AND ALMOST UNCONTROLLABLE BEHAVIOR OCCURS AT ANYWHERE FROM 55 TO 60MPH. AFTER TRYING TO RESEARCH THE SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM, I HAVE NOTICED MULTIPLE OTHER JEEP OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. MY JEEP IS MY DAILY DRIVER, AND ALSO IS USED TO TRANSPORT MY 4 AND 5 YEAR OLD KIDS AROUND. DUE TO THE ECONOMY I CAN NOT AFFORD TO PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE, NOR WILL I SELL THESE PROBLEMS TO SOMEONE ELSE. I AM SURPRISED THERE HASN'T BEEN MORE HIGHWAY RELATED INCIDENTS/FATALITIES DUE TO THIS ISSUE. ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED IN SOLVING THIS ISSUE. I OWN A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED RUBICON. NEARLY EVERY TIME I FILL UP AT A GAS STATION THE GAS NOZZLE DOES NOT CLICK OFF WHEN THE TANK IS NEAR FULL AND GAS RUNS DOWN OVER THE SIDE OF THE CAR, THE FENDER AND ONTO THE GROUND (AND SOMETIMES ONTO CLOTHES/SHOES). EVERY TIME I PUT GAS IN MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER IT OVERFLOWS, AND SPILLS GAS ALL OVER THE JEEP, AND THE GROUND.

EVERYTHING I FILL MY 05 JEEP WRANGLER THE GAS SPEWS OUT WHEN THE NOZZLE CUTS OFF. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT STARTED A FEW MONTHS AGO. BEFORE THEN WAS NORMAL WHEN FILLED. I TALKED TO THE JEEP DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL OR ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE. *DT
2005 JEEP WRANGLER. CONSUMER STATES WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF PURCHASE VEHICLE BEGAN EXPERIENCING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE HEATER/FAN SWITCH WAS REPLACED NUMEROUS TIMES. ON MARCH 22, 2010, SMOKE BEGAN EMITTING FROM THE VENTS INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. WITHIN MINUTES, THE VEHICLE WAS FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND BURNED COMPLETELY TO THE FRAME. CHRYSLER DETERMINED THERE WERE NO MANUFACTURING DEFECTS DESPITE THE NUMEROUS PROBLEMS THE CONSUMER ENCOUNTERED WITH THE VEHICLE. *JB
2005 JEEP WRANGLER - GASOLINE OVERFLOWS FROM FILLER NECK WHILE GAS IS PUMPED EVERYTIME TANK IS FILLED COMPLETELY. WASTE OF GAS AND POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. *TR
GAS SPLASHES OUT OF MY 2005 JEEP YJ WHEN FILLING AT ANY GAS PUMP. THE GAS PUMP STOPS THE FLOW OF GAS, BUT ABOUT ONE CUP OF GAS SPLASHES OUT EVERY TIME I FILL-UP.
I BOUGHT THE JEEP AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED CHRYSLER. I'VE ONLY OWNED THE JEEP FOR A MONTH AND NOTICED GAS PUMPS DO NOT SHUT OFF WHEN FILLING THE TANK. I'VE TRIED MULTIPLE PUMPS, AT DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS. IT HAPPENS ABOUT 90% OF THE TIME. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAID IT'S NOT SOMETHING COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. SEEMS LIKE A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH MY FUEL TANK, EVERY TIME I FILL UP, REGARDLESS OF THE GAS STATION I GO TO, FUEL OVERFLOWS FROM MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED ONTO THE PAVEMENT. I HAVE TRIED OVER 30 DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS IN 3 DIFFERENT STATES. I HAVE HEARD THIS SAME COMPLAINT FROM MANY OTHER JEEP AND CHRYSLER PRODUCT OWNERS. THE CONSTANT EXPOSURE TO FUEL IS DAMAGING THE PAINT ON MY FENDER AND I CAN ONLY IMAGINE IT IS NOT GOOD FOR THE PAVEMENT. ALSO, I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT FIRE EVERY TIME I FILL UP. *TR
AT THE END OF THE PUMPING OF GAS, IT SPEWS OUT THE FUEL LINE AND ALL OVER MY JEEP AND THE GROUND. THIS SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY AND ECOLOGICAL ISSUE. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING FROM PUMPING FAST TO SLOW, NOZZLE RIGHT SIDE UP TO UPSIDE DOWN, ALL THE WAY IN AND HALF WAY OUT. NOTHING STOPS THE PROBLEM. *TR

VEHICLE CONSISTENTLY SPEWS FUEL WHEN FILLING FUEL TANK REGARDLESS OF WHICH GAS STATION I USE. *TR
2005 JEEP WRANGLER WITH 39,000 MILES SHAKES VIOLENTLY ON THE FREEWAY AT 50-75 MPH. ALMOST LOST CONTROL AND THEN COULD ONLY GET THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL BY SLOWING TO 40MPH AND ALMOST GOT RE-ENDED. 1) THERE WAS A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING 2) ALMOST LOST CONTROL, THEN NEAR MISS BY VEHICLES BEHIND ME WHEN I HAD TO REDUCE SPEED TO 40MPH TO REGAIN CONTROL 3) I WILL BE SENDING THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOP, BUT FROM WHAT I HAVE READ, THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS BY OTHER OWNERS AND NOTHING THE DEALER DOES TO FIX THIS PROBLEM HAS WORKED. *TR
2005 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON UNLIMITED EVERY TIME I FILL UP MY TANK, THE NOZZLE DOES NOT TURN OFF AND ABOUT A QUARTER OF A GALLON OF FUEL SPILLS OUT. *TR
MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED (24,000 MILES) STARTED SPITTING A SMALL AMOUNT OF GASOLINE FROM THE FILLER TUBE ABOUT A YEAR AGO. IT WOULD SPIT OUT ABOUT A SECOND AFTER THE NOZZLE SHUT OFF. LIKE MANY OTHERS THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM, I BLAMED THE STATIONS EQUIPMENT. I TRIED OTHER STATIONS & OTHER TECHNIQUES LIKE FILLING SLOWER & TRYING TO ANTICIPATE WHEN THE TANK WOULD BE FULL & FILLING AS SLOWLY AS THE NOZZLE WOULD ALLOW. NOTHING SEEMED TO PREVENT THE SPIT BACK. I RECENTLY BECAME AWARE OF THE WORKINGS OF THE VAPOR CONTROL PROPERTIES OF MY JEEP. THAT LED ME TO AN INTERNET FORUM & TO THE FACT OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I ALSO SAW THAT THE NHTSA HAS INVESTIGATED THIS PROBLEM ON 2007 & 2008 WRANGLERS & THAT HAS LED TO CHRYSLER VOLUNTARILY EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ON THOSE GAS TANKS. HOWEVER, IN THEIR FINAL REPORT THE NHTSA (PE10-032) SEEMED CRITICAL OF THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS BECAUSE OF INTERNET EXPOSURE. IF THIS EXPOSURE LEADS TO IDENTIFYING MORE PEOPLE WITH LEGITIMATE COMPLAINTS, HOW IS THIS A BAD THING? THESE ASSERTIONS MAY BE EASILY VERIFIED BY A TRIP TO A FILLING STATION. PART OF CHRYSLERS RESPONSE WAS BASED ON WARRANTY CLAIMS, IT IS LOGICAL THAT THE OLDER & OUT OF WARRANTY VEHICLES WOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED IN THEIR EVALUATION. I BELIEVE THAT EXTENDING THE WARRANTY RATHER THAN A RECALL IS A GOOD WAY OF HANDLING THIS (REPLACING ONLY THE TANKS WITH PROBLEMS) & I APPLAUD CHRYSLER FOR THIS. I HOPE YOU WILL ENCOURAGE CHRYSLER TO ADD THE 2004-2006 WRANGLERS TO THE EXTENDED GAS TANK WARRANTY PROGRAM AS WE ARE EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AS THE 07 & 08S ARE. THE FAIR ALTERNATIVE WOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. THE IDENTIFIED FAILURE SEEMS TO BE A CHECK VALVE IN THE GAS TANK.
I HAVE A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED. THIS VEHICLE HAS A FUEL OVERFLOW SPILL PROBLEM EVERY TIME I GAS IT UP. AS A MATTER OF FACT, I HAVE BEEN BANNED FROM A LOCAL GAS STATION BECAUSE I CONSTANTLY SPILL FUEL DUE TO A JEEP DEFECT THAT DOES NOT SHUT THE FUEL PUMP PRIOR TO FILL. CLEARLY A SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM. *TR
GAS TANK OVERFLOW: THE GAS TANK WILL SPURT GAS OUT AUTOMATICALLY WHEN IT IS FULL RATHER THAN HAVING THE PUMP CLICK TO INFORM YOU THAT IT IS FULL. *TR
WHEN REFUELING, FUEL WILL OVERFLOW FROM THE FILLER NECK BEFORE THE PUMP WILL STOP. ONCE THE FUEL COMES OUT, THE PUMP WILL THEN STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED REGULARLY AT DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS AND RESULTS IN APPROXIMATELY 0.25 GALLON OF FUEL ON THE VEHICLE AND GROUND. *TR
1) WHEN FILLING GAS TANK WITH NOZZLE CORRECTLY INSERTED INTO FUEL TANK FILLER, THE GAS WILL OVERFLOW OUT OF TANK BEFORE NOZZLE SHUTS OFF. GASOLINE THEN SPILLS ALL OVER THE VEHICLE AND ON THE TARMAC. CREATING A FIRE HAZARD. 2) THIS OCCURS 90% OF THE TIME I GAS UP. EVERY TIME IT LEAVES A PUDDLE OF GAS AT THE STATION AND MY VEHICLE IS COVERED WITH GAS AS WELL. 3) SO FAR I HAVE NOT PERFORMED ANY SERVICE TO CORRECT FAILURE. *TR
WHEN FILLING GAS TANK NECK REPEATEDLY OVERFLOWS AT CUTOFF, SPILLING SEVERAL OUNCES OF GAS ON CAR AND GROUND. *JS
2005 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON UNLIMITED - WHEN FUELING MY VEHICLE AT A GAS STATION AND REACHING THE "FULL" LEVEL GAS SPILLS OUT ONTO THE VEHICLE AND ANYTHING CLOSE BY BECAUSE OF AN INEFFICIENT DESIGN IN THE TWO PRESSURE TUBES ON THE FUEL TANK. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH JEEP WRANGLER TJ/LJ MODELS AMONGST THE JEEPING COMMUNITIES BUT NO ACTION HAS EVER BEEN TAKEN TO ADDRESS THIS BY ANY AGENCY OR COMPANY. THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT NUMBERS OF JEEP WRANGLERS OWNERS REPORTING THIS PROBLEM BUT NO ACTION HAS EVER BEEN TAKEN BECAUSE AS OF YET NO RESULTING LOSS OF LIFE OR SIGNIFICANT HARM HAS OCCURRED. I HAVE PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE AT ALMOST EVERY OCCASION WHERE I HAD TO STOP AND FUEL MY VEHICLE. IT HAS OCCURRED AT BOTH OLDER GAS STATIONS WITHOUT SPILL RESISTANT NOZZLES AND GAS STATIONS WITH THE NEWER SPILL RESISTANT PRESSURE NOZZLES. I BELIEVE THIS IS DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE JEEP GAS TANK HAVING ONE OF THE TWO PRESSURE TUBES INVOLVING AN INNER TUBE THAT EXTENDS SEVERAL INCHES INTO THE TANK TO ATTEMPT TO EQUALIZE PRESSURE WHICH ACTUALLY CREATES AN AIR IMBALANCE THAT ALLOWS FOR FUEL TO SURGE BACK UP THE SPOUT DURING REFUELING WHEN THE FUEL FLOW INTO THE TANK IS STOPPED. *TR

PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2005 JEEP WRANGLER IN NOVEMBER OF 2005. EVER SINCE THEN, WHEN FILLING THE TANK UP WITH GAS, THE GAS OVER FLOWS. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. THERE WERE NO MODIFICATIONS. STOCK JEEP WRANGLER WHERE THE GAS OVER FLOWS EVERY SINGLE TIME I FILL UP. NOTHING WILL CORRECT THE ISSUE UNLESS A RECALL IS ISSUED. *TR

MY GAS TANK OVER FLOWS AND GASOLINE GUSHES OUT EVERY TIME I FILL MY GAS TANK AT EVERY GAS STATION. THE GASOLINE PUMP AUTO SHUT OFF VALVE DOES NOT ACTIVATE UNTIL GASOLINE GUSHES OUT PAST THE GAS TANK FILLER NECK AND INTO THE PLASTIC GAS FILL AREA. FROM THERE THE GASOLINE CONTINUES TO LEAK ONTO THE PAINTED BODY OF MY JEEP. NOTABLY, TRYING TO INSERT THE GASOLINE PUMP INTO ALL CONCEIVABLE DEPTHS INTO THE GASOLINE FUEL FILLER NECK HAS NO EFFECT ON THE GASOLINE GUSHING ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM DIDN'T START UNTIL MY JEEP HIT ABOUT 40,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER (I AM THE 1ST OWNER). THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE SOMETHING WITHIN THE FUEL FILLING SYSTEM OR POSSIBLY EVAP SYSTEM IS CORRODED, PLUGGED UP, OR OTHERWISE FOULED AS THERE IS NO EXTERIOR DAMAGE. THIS COULD CREATE MULTIPLE DANGEROUS SITUATIONS BOTH AT THE GAS STATION AND ON THE ROAD.
EVERY TIME I GET GAS IN MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER IT OVERFILLS BY THE TIME THE PUMP SHUTS OFF. THIS LEADS TO GAS COMING OUT THE FUEL FILLER. THIS CAN LEAD TO UNSAFE CONDITIONS AS GAS IS FLAMMABLE. ALSO IT WILL EVENTUALLY MARK THE PAINT. *TR
WHEN FUELING, GAS SHOOTS OUT OF FILLER TUBE DUE TO DEFECTIVE CHECK VALVE. THIS IS BOTH A FIRE HAZARD AND AN ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN, NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT THE PERSON FILLING THE TANK GETS GAS ALL OVER THEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FUEL ESCAPED FROM THE FUEL TANK WHEN THE FUEL TANK WAS FULL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND THE TEST INDICATED THAT THE ROLLOVER VALVE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT IT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
