TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE MALFUNCTIONED AND BURNED THE VEHICLES OIL CONSUMPTION AFTER ONLY TWO THOUSAND MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE ENTIRE ENGINE BLOCK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON VEHICLE; HOWEVER, CHRYSLER DID NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TRAVELING DOWN ROAD, NOTICED AIR BAG LIGHT STAYING ON, ESP WOULDN'T WORK, HORN INOPERATIVE. CALLED JEEP DEALER AND THEY SAID TO COME IN FOR DIAGNOSIS AS THE AIR BAG LIGHT INDICATED A FAULT IN AIR BAG SYSTEM. TOOK TO DEALERS AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE CLOCK-SPRING WIRING HARNESS TO CURE PROBLEM. NOT IN WARRENTY PERIOD AND WHEN CHRYSLER WAS CONTACTED THEY WOULD NOT ACCEPT COST AS IT WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. I THEREFORE HAD TO PAY FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER SAID TO KEEP INVOICE AS IT MAY LATER BE A SAFETY RECALL. IT SHOULD BE AS I WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM COULD CAUSE THE AIR BAG SYSTEM TO MALFUNCTION. BEING IN THE JEEP COMMUNITY I KNOW OF THOUSANDS OF JEEP WRANGLERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. COPY OF INVOICE ATTACHED.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. FOR A WEEK OR SO IT WENT OFF AND ON. NOW IT STAYS LIT ALMOST ALL OF THE TIME UNLESS YOU TURN RIGHT THEN IT WILL GO OUT, THEN COME ON AS YOU DRIVE STRAIGHT OR LEFT. *TR
HORN STUCK ON UNTIL I PULL WIRE OFF OF HORN. AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON ESP LIGHT IS ON AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT IS ON. RESEARCH ON JEEP FORUMS APPEARS TO BE THE CLOCK SPRING. MANY OTHER 2008 MODELS SEEM TO BE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. PLEASE PROVIDE SOME RESOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE. *TR
MY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA JUST STARTED BLARING THE HORN OUT OF NOWHERE WHILE I WAS DRIVING. MANY PEOPLE SLOWED DOWN TO GET OUT OF MY WAY, TRAFFIC PATTERNS CHANGED NEAR ME AND ALMOST CAUSED A FEW ACCIDENTS AS EVERYONE LOOKED TO SEE WHO WAS LAYING ON THEIR HORN. THE HORN HAD A CONSTANT HONK UNTIL I PULLED OUT THE FUSES TO DISCONNECT IT. MY AIRBAG LIGHT TURNED ON AND I HAVE NO IDEA IF THE AIRBAG IS WORKING. I REPLACED THE FUSES AND THE HORN DID NOT HONK AGAIN FOR A WHILE UNTIL ONE NIGHT, ABOUT A WEEK LATER, AT ABOUT 2:00 AM MY JEEP WOKE MY ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD WITH ITS BLARING HORN AS I RACED TO PULL MY FUSES OUT AGAIN. I LOOKED UP THE POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND MANY JEEP FORUMS DEDICATED TO THE FAULTY "CLOCK SPRINGS" IN THE STEERING COLUMNS THAT CREATE THESE HAZARDOUS SITUATIONS. *TR
MADE A LEFT TURN HORN STARTED GOING OFF AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CRUISE CONTROL QUIT WORKING ALL AT THE SAME TIME. *TR
SINCE EARLY JULY, MY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER 2DR LHD HAS LOST HORN FUNCTIONALITY, CRUISE CONTROL FUNCTIONALITY, AND HAS BEEN ILLUMINATING THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL ON THE 2008 WRANGLER TO REPLACE FAULTY CLOCKSPRINGS JUST AS THERE WAS FOR THE 2007 WRANGLER. *TR
WHEN FILLING THE FUEL TANK GAS ALWAYS COMES SPILLING OUT OF THE FILLER HOLE. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU ARE HOLDING THE PUMP HANDLE WITH YOUR HAND OR LETTING THE PUMP SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY. THERE SEEMS TO BE SOME STRANGE BUBBLE EFFECT AND THE GASOLINE BURPS BACK OUT OF THE FILLER HOLE AND SPRAYS ALL OVER THE GROUND, THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ANYONE STANDING CLOSE TO THE VEHICLE WHILE IT'S BEING FUELED. I FILED A COMPLAINT THREE MONTHS AGO AND RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE.. COULD RESULT IN FIRE, LOSS OF PROPERTY OR DEATH. *TR
HORN DOES NOT WORK WHEN YOU PRESS THE HORN BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL. HORN WILL WORK WHEN YOU PRESS THE HORN BUTTON ON THE KEY FOB. FUSES ARE GOOD. I THINK ITS A FAULTY CLOCKSPRING. *TR
UPON TURNING ON MY JEEP THE AIRBAG LIGHT DID NOT GO OUT AFTER THE START-UP LIGHT CHECK. WHEN RESTARTING THE VEHICLE IT WENT OUT. WHILE DRIVING IT CAME BACK ON AND CHIMED, IT HAS CONTINUED TO COME ON INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE PARKED. THE ESP ALSO BEGAN INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATING WHILE DRIVING ON A SMOOTH STRAIGHT HIGHWAY. THIS INTERMITTENT ISSUE HAS PERSISTED FOR OVER A YEAR. IN DOING RESEARCH BOTH ISSUES CAN POTENTIALLY BE RELATED BACK TO THE AIRBAG CLOCKSPRING. A RECALL EXISTS FOR RHD JEEP WRANGLERS OF MY SAME YEAR THAT USE THE SAME PART. WHEN CONTACTING A JEEP DEALER ABOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO RESOLVE IT UNLESS I PAID FOR ALL PARTS AND LABOR. IN CHECKING ONLINE FORUMS THIS IS APPARENTLY NOT AS RARE AS THE INITIAL RECALL STATES. THERE ARE EVEN ONLINE TUTORIALS ON HOW TO CHANGE IT YOURSELF SINCE THE MANUFACTURER DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THIS AS A PROBLEM ON LHD JEEPS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE STABILIZER HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

AIR BAG LIGHT AND CHIME GOES ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. AFTER INVESTIGATING, APPEARS TO BE BAD CLOCKSPRING. *TR
MY WHEEL FEEL OFF FOR NO REASON -- LUG NUTS BROKEN OFF - IT IS A MIRACLE I WASN'T KILLED. HAD JUST EXITED HIGHWAY WHERE I WAS GOING 60 MPH. WHEEL BOUNCED ACROSS 3 LANES OF ON COMING TRAFFIC. I WAS A MIRACLE SOMEONE IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC WAS NOT KILLED. *TR
CHANGED MY ENGINE OIL AND NOTICED THAT IT WAS 3 QUARTS LOW, IT HAS NEVER BEEN LOW BEFORE UNTIL THIS OIL CHANGE, I USE 6 QUARTS OF MOBIL 1 FULL SYNTHETIC AND FILTER EVERY OIL CHANGE, GOT TO LOOKING ON LINE AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THIS ISSUE (HTTP://WWW.IPETITIONS.COM/PETITION/OILBURNINGJEEPWRANGLER/SIGNATURES/PAGE/3)( JUST ONE OF MANY I FOUND IN MY SEARCH) .CHRYSLER'S COME BACK TO EVERYONE HAS BEEN THAT ON THE 3.8 LITTER ENGINE THEY ALLOW 1 QUART OF OIL CONSUMPTION PER 1000 MILES, THIS IS NOT EXCEPT ABLE,ANYONE WITH ANY KNOWLEDGE OF VEHICLE MAINTENANCE KNOWS THAT A ENGINE WITH 38000 MILES DOES NOT CONSUME THIS MUCH OIL, I THINK THAT THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO AND CHRYSLER NEEDS TO RECALL THESE ENGINES. BY THE WAY I DO HAVE THE LIFETIME POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. *TR

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY (6/2/13) AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON, SO I PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN STARTED IT BACK UP. THE LIGHT WENT OFF SO I DROVE OFF. IT HAPPENED THREE MORE TIMES BEFORE I GOT HOME. THE SAME THING HAPPENED THE NEXT THREE DAYS BUT NOW IT IS STAYING ON. THE DEALER SAID IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND I WILL TAKE IT IN ON FRIDAY. AFTER SOME RESEARCH THERE IS A RECALL FOR RHD BUT NOT LHD AND THAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 13V176000 (AIR BAGS) HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE RECALL ONLY PERTAINED TO MAIL DELIVERY VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,000. *TR
'08 JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA DISPLAYS TRULY ALARMING WHEEL VIBRATION UNDER LIGHT BRAKING WHEN DESCENDING FROM ALTITUDE. ALTITUDE IS USUALLY AROUND 10,000 FEET, GRADE IS USUALLY 6-7% AND SPEED 55-65MPH. TO-DATE I HAVE ONLY REPLICATED THIS PROBLEM AT ALTITUDE (KINGS CANYON/SEQUOIA IN CA AND IN THE ROCKIES ON THE I70 IN CO TO NAME A COUPLE OF INCIDENTS) SO IT?S UNLIKELY TO BE THE NOTORIOUS "JEEP DEATH WOBBLE," THOUGH IT MAY BE A RELATED ISSUE. I?M WONDERING WHETHER THE VISCOSITY OF THE BRAKE FLUID MAY BE A FACTOR? JEEP REFERRED ME TO A DEALER BUT I DON'T WANT AN OPINION FROM A REPAIR SHOP, I WANT (AND DESERVE) AN EXPLANATION FROM "THE MANUFACTURER" OF THE VEHICLE AS TO WHY THEIR VEHICLE IS SUDDENLY SO DIFFICULT TO CONTROL UNDER BRAKING. *TR
I HAVE AND 08 WRANGLER JK THAT I RECENTLY PURCHASED FROM DODGE DEALER. THE OTHER DAY I SHUT KEY OFF AND PULLED THE KEY AND THE JEEP KEEP RUNNING. I PULLED POSITIVE TERMINAL AND IT SHUT OFF. PUT IT BACK ON AND STARTED AND SHUT IT OF NO ISSUE. DIDN'T BOTHER AGAIN TILL ABOUT A WEEK LATER WHEN I WENT TO DR AND IT DID IT AGAIN. HOWEVER IT SHUT ITSELF OFF IN A COUPLE MINUTES, HOWEVER YESTERDAY WHEN IT DID IT DIDN'T SHUT OFF FOR THE TIME WE WERE IN HANNAFORD APROX 10-15 MIN... WHAT'S THE ISSUE...... *TR
MY AIR BAG RED LIGHT CAME ON, I CHECKED ON LINE AND WAS TOLD THEY RECALLED THE 2007 FOR THIS SAME REASON, AND IF LEFT UNREPAIRED MY SEAT BELT WILL NOT WORK! AFTER THE 2007 RECALL, I FEEL THEY SHOULD HAVE FOUND THE PROBLEM AND FIXED IT! THEY WANT $425.00 TO REPAIR WHAT THEY DID NOT DO RIGHT. IF I HAD THE MONEY I WOULD GET THE REPAIR, BUT I FEEL THE DEALER SHIP SHOULD PAY FOR HALF OF THE REPAIR. I CAN DIE WITHOUT A AIR BAG! WHEN I ARRIVED HOME AND WAS IN THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY, I SET THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. SOMETHING SNAPPED, AFTER WHICH THE BRAKE CLEARLY CEASED TO FUNCTION (I COULD NOT SET IT). FORTUNATELY THIS DID NOT HAPPEN IN A SITUATION WHEN I ACTUALLY NEEDED TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN WITH ANY VEHICLE I EVER OWNED. *TR
ON 5/15/13 I PURCHASED A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER X FROM WALSER SUBARU IN BURNSVILLE MN. AT APPROXIMATELY 8:50PM I WAS HEADING HOME FROM COMPLETING THE TRANSACTION WITH THE DEALER. I WAS ON I-35W NORTH GOING AROUND A LONG EASY LEFT CORNER IN THE ROAD WHEN I HIT A ROUGH AREA IN THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS SHAKING HARD LEFT AND RIGHT. I IMMEDIATELY GRASPED THE WHEEL AS FIRMLY AS POSSIBLE AND SLOWED THE VEHICLE TO APPROXIMATELY 45 MILES AN HOUR BEFORE THE SHAKING STOPPED. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE NEXT EXIT AND INSPECTED THE TIRES AND WHEELS THINKING I HAD A FLAT OR A LOOSE WHEEL. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE HOME WITH NO OTHER OCCURRENCE OF THE INCIDENT. THIS MORNING 5/16/2013 AT APPROXIMATELY 7:40AM I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AND HAD JUST MERGED OFF OF I-35W SOUTH TO 280 SOUTH. I AGAIN WAS IN A SLIGHT BEND IN THE ROAD THIS TIME TO THE RIGHT AND HIT A ROUGH AREA OF ROADWAY. I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES AN HOUR WHEN AGAIN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND I HAD TO GRASP THE WHEEL FIRMLY AND SLOW UNTIL THE SHAKING SUBSIDED. I'VE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THE VEHICLE IS GOING IN FOR INSPECTION AT WALSER CHRYSLER JEEP IN HOPKINS MN AT 1:45PM 5/16/13. I ALSO DID A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF RESEARCH ONLINE TODAY AFTER THE SECOND EVENT AND IT APPEARS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON 2007-2013 JEEP WRANGLER JK MODELS. IT IS MOST COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS "DEATH WOBBLE" THIS APPEARS TO BE A WIDE SPREAD AND VERY DANGEROUS FLAW IN THE JEEP JK DESIGN AND ONE THAT NEEDS TO BE CAREFULLY INVESTIGATED FOR SAFETY OF ALL THOSE ON THE PUBLIC ROADWAYS.
WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH THE AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED WITH A CORRESPONDING CHIME. THE LIGHT COMES ON AN OFF AND THE CHIME SOUNDS RANDOMLY. THROUGH RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON AND IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH JEEP WRANGLERS AND SPECIFICALLY TO THE CLOCKSPRING BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL. APPARENTLY MY AIRBAG MAY OR MAY NOT WORK IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. *TR
WHEN FILLING THE FUEL TANK, THE FUEL STOP VALVE IS STUCK OPEN CAUSING FUEL TO SPILL OUT WHEN TANK GETS FULL. IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY THIS VALVE IS THERE TO STOP FUEL FROM SPILLING OUT IN A ROLL-OVER ACCIDENT. IF THE VALVE GETS STUCK OPEN THEN THIS CAN CAUSE A FIRE/EXPLOSION. *TR

MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND I HAD TURNED THE IGNITION OFF, REMOVED MY KEYS, AND WALKED AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON A FLAT SURFACE AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. UPON WALKING AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE THE VEHICLE STARTED ROLLING FORWARD BY ITSELF. MY VEHICLE ROLLED INTO THE BACK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE CAUSING 4,000 DOLLARS IN DAMAGES TO THE OTHER VEHICLE. NO MAJOR DAMAGES OCCURRED TO MY VEHICLE.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS FLASHING ON AND OFF AT DIFFERENT TIMES DURING DRIVING. IT HAS COME ON THE PAST 2 DAYS AND FLASHED AND BEEPED. WHEN I AM DRIVING IT COMES ON ERRATICALLY OR NOT AT ALL OR STAYS ON FOR THE ENTIRE DRIVE. I HAVE A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER THAT WAS MANUFACTURED IN 2007. THE CLOCK SPRING WAS DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER AS BEING DEFECTIVE. THIS WILL PREVENT THE DRIVER AIRBAG FROM DEPLOYING IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE READ THAT THE 2007 MODEL YEAR CLOCK SPRINGS WERE RECALLED BUT NOT THE 2008. I HAVE READ ON SEVERAL FORUMS THAT THE 2008 MODELS ARE AFFECTED WITH THIS PROBLEM ESPECIALLY THE EARLY MODELS. I AM NOT SURE HOW MANY COMPLAINTS YOU HAVE HAD ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT THIS SHOULD BE HANDLED IN A RECALL OR OTHER WAY THAT THE OWNER IS OUT OF POCKET $500 FOR A SAFETY REPAIR THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF AS AN ISSUE. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER CARE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THIS ISSUE. I HAVE HEARD THAT CHRYSLER HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THIS PART TO 100K MILES OR SO.. JUST GOT MY VEHICLE OUT OF THE SHOP, LEITH CHRYSLER JEEP $2,374.43 I PAID. AFTER 245 MILES (FROM RALEIGH TO WASHINGTON, DC), THE VIOLENT VIBRATIONS/SHAKING STARTED AGAIN. CALL THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED ME TO TAKE JEEP TO LOCAL CHRYSLER JEEP DEALERSHIP, WARRANTY ON THE REPAIRS 12,000 MILES TO 24 MONTHS. TOOK THE JEEP TO DARCARS MARLOW HEIGHTS, THEY WOULD NOT ACCEPT THE OTHER CHRYSLER JEEP DEALERS REPAIRS BECAUSE THEY SAID THEY USED AFTERMARKET PARTS. I CALLED THE CHRYSLER CORPORATE OFFICE AND FILED A COMPLAINT (CASE # 23448465) WHICH WAS USELESS, THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT MAKE ANOTHER CHRYSLER FRANCHISE WARRANTY THE REPAIRS (THE CORPORATE OFFICE WAS USELESS). I PAID AND ADDITIONAL $270.00 WHICH LEITH COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP WANTING TO KNOW WHY THEY CHARGED SO MUCH AFTER THEY UPS??ED THE REPLACEMENT PART TO THEM. AFTER PAYING THE MONEY AND GETTING JEEP BACK. I DROVE BACK TO RALEIGH, DROVE OVER THE HIGHWAY DIVIDER ON THE EXIT TO GET ON I40 AND THE VIBRATION STARTED AGAIN. THIS CAN NOT CONTINUE TO GO ON!!! AN INVESTIGATION NEEDS TO BE DONE TO OFFICIALLY PROVE THAT THIS ??DEATH WOBBLE?? IT IS A LARGELY KNOW PROBLEM WITH STEERING BOX AND COMPONENTS ON 07' AND NEWER JEEP WRANGLERS(JK WRANGLERS BOTH 2DR AND 4DR) TO HAVE MASS AMOUNTS OF "PLAY" IN STEERING. THIS IS MOSTLY RELATED TO LACK OF QUALITY PARTS IN THE STEERING BOX. SECTOR SHAFT, DRAGLINK, TIEROD ENDS, AND BALL JOINTS FROM THE MANUFACTURER. AFTER TALKING TO THE DEALER IN MY AREA I HAVE FOUND AS MANY TIMES AS THERE HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE, THERE IS NO WORD OR CONCERN FROM CHRYSLER ABOUT A SOLUTION TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE LOOSENESS OF THE STEERING AT SPEED POSES A GREAT THREAT TO VEHICLE OCCUPANTS AND SURROUNDING DRIVERS SAFETY. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ASAP. *TR
WHILE PARKED ON A SLIGHT INCLINE THE HAND BRAKE WAS SET. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL FORWARD, I PUT THE VEHICLE IN GEAR AND RESET THE HAND BRAKE MORE FIRMLY ONLY TO HEAR A SNAP AND THE HANDLE HAD ZERO RESISTANCE. THE SPRING BROKE INTERNALLY. I HAD THE VEHICLE IN GEAR AND ENGINE OFF SO IT DID NOT ROLL FORWARD ANY MORE, BUT LOOKING ONLINE HAVE DISCOVERED THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND IF THE HAND BRAKE IS NEED MAY EASILY FAIL - IT DID NOT TAKE A HARD PULL TO BREAK THE SPRING. THERE IS A WIDELY EXPERIENCED (THOUGH UNACKNOWLEDGED BY CHRYSLER) ISSUE CONCERNING FAILURE TO START ON AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS JK. WHILE IN PARK, TURNING THE KEY WILL PRODUCE A SINGLE CLICK BUT NOT CRANK. IF YOU PUSH THE SHIFT LEVER, WHILE IN PARK, UP A LITTLE MORE, OR, MOVE THE SHIFT LEVER INTO NEUTRAL, THE VEHICLE STARTS. THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUE IS A POORLY DESIGNED, EASILY FATIGUED TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR (TRS), AND/OR A WEAK GROUND OF THE SAME. *TR

HE INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM AND LEARNED THERE WAS AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION PRIOR TO ISSUING A RECALL. ON MAY 9, 2012, THE CONSUMER WENT TO THE DEALER, FOR AN UNRELATED PROBLEM AND REQUESTED A DIAGNOSIS FOR THE AIR BAG PROBLEM. THEY REPORTED ON THE INVOICE, THE CLOCK SPRING MECHANISM HAD FAILED AND THE REPLACEMENT COST WAS $800.

I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND WAS COMING UP TO A STOP LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE DIED OUT. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE STARTED AND SHORTLY AFTER THAT, I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AGAIN AND WHILE I WAS SPEEDING UP TO ABOUT 55 MPH THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AGAIN AND I WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET AWAY FROM THE TRAFFIC AROUND ME AND GET THE VEHICLE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY. I ATTEMPTED RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE TO RESTART, LUCKILY I WORK ON VEHICLES MYSELF AND DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A FUEL PUMP ISSUE. I TAPPED ON THE FUEL TANK, GOT THE VEHICLE STARTED AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ME AND MY FAMILY ALL THE WAY BACK HOME, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVING ROUGH AND NO LIGHTS CAME ON INDICATING I HAD A PROBLEM, BEFORE OR AFTER. I WILL GET THE VEHICLE TESTED ON TO SEE WHAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED IT. AFTER READING A GREAT NUMBER OF THESE COMPLAINTS, THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO POINT AT AND IS CLEARLY INDICATING IT IS THE FUEL PUMP!! WE WERE VERY LUCKY THAT THE VEHICLE DIDN'T EXPLODE BECAUSE THE FUEL PUMP WIRES HAVE A TENDENCY TO MELTED ON THE FUEL PUMP. I DOUBT FORD WOULD PAY FOR THIS FUEL PUMP FAILURE IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WHEN YOU LOOK ON-LINE. *TR
