THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HE DRIVING 70 MPH OVER A ROAD BUMP, THE FRONT WHEELS BEGAN WOBBLING UNCONTROLLABLY. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL, SLIGHTLY CRASHING INTO A DITCH. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER AND THE BUSHINGS BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. CONSEQUENTLY, THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DRIVEN OVER 50 MPH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
I BOUGHT A USED JEEP FROM NEWARK JEEP EAGLE IN DELAWARE WHICH HAD A 30 DAY WARRANTY. THE SAME NIGHT THAT I DROVE IT HOME ON THE HIGHWAY, I HIT UNEVEN PAVEMENT AND THE JEEP STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. TOOK THE JEEP BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER, TRACK BAR, AND SWITCHED MY TIRES AND THIS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN AFTER EVERY REPAIR. SINCE I ONLY HAD A 30 DAY WARRANTY I COULD NOT CONTINUE TO TAKE IT BACK FOR ADDITIONAL REPAIR DUE TO COSTS, HOWEVER NOTHING SEEMED TO WORK AND NOW THIS HAPPENS AT HIGHER SPEEDS AND VERY OFTEN. THIS WOBBLE HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE JEEP AND IT IS UNSAFE. I SEE SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS WOBBLE ON SEVERAL FORUMS AND ON JEEPS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN ALTERED LIKE MINE. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IN A RECALL AS PEOPLE WHO SPEND $25,000 FOR A VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO GO BROKE TO FIX AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURER ERROR. I CANNOT DRIVE ME VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY FOR FEAR OF MY SAFETY AS WELL AS HAVING TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL ACROSS THE ENTIRE HIGHWAY COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
I HAVE OWNED THIS JEEP SINCE EARLY MAY OF 2013. WHENEVER I GO TO THE GAS STATION AND FILL THE TANK GAS ALWAYS OVERFLOWS FROM THE FILLING NECK. WHEN PUMPING GAS WHEN THE TANK REACHES FULL THERE IS A BUBBLE EFFECT AND YOU CAN EFFECTIVELY HEAR THE FILLER NECK BURP THEN IT SPEWS FUEL ALL OVER THE GROUND, SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ANYONE STANDING CLOSE TO THE FUEL DOOR. *TR
THE AIRBAG LIGHT AND ALARM WARNING GOES ON AND OFF. ON LONGER STRAIGHT AWAY IT WILL TURN OFF BUT AS SOON AS I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL 45-90 DEGREES THE ALARM AND LIGHT COME ON. VERY CONCERNED THAT THE AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY WITHOUT COLLISION. I'VE COME TO UNDERSTAND THAT 2007-2008 JEEP WRANGLERS ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE AND IT SEEMS TO BE THE CLOCK SPRING MECHANISM/ELECTRICAL BOARD IN THE STEERING COLUMN. *TR
UPON FILLING UP THE VEHICLE, FUEL RUSHES OUT OF THE INLET AND ONTO THE FENDER GUARD, BODY, AND BUMPER AND ON THE GROUND. THIS HAS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY AT EVERY FILL UP. AFTER THE FIRST THREE TIMES THIS HAPPENED I CAUGHT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE FROM THE SPILL = 3 PINTS +. IT SHOOTS ALL OVER MY HANDS, ARM, AND LEG. VERY DANGEROUS AND HAZARDOUS HAVING GAS ALL OVER ME. *TR
ON MY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) DASHBOARD, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT FLASHES ON EVERY OTHER MINUTE WITH A CHIME, AN INDICATION THAT THERE IS SOMETHING MALFUNCTIONING OR INTERFERING WITH THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS.THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING ISSUE AND CONCERN FOR MANY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) OWNERS, INCLUDING MYSELF, AND HAS BEEN SHOWN TIME AND TIME AGAIN TO BE CAUSED BY A FAULTY CLOCKSPRING WITHIN THE VEHICLE'S STEERING WHEEL. THIS FAULTY CLOCKSPRING IS THE CULPRIT FOR POTENTIAL AIRBAG FAILURE IN THE 2008 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) DURING AN ACCIDENT OR PREMATURE DEPLOYMENT WHEN SIMPLY DRIVING AROUND. DAIMLER CHRYSLER HAS REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE SAFETY CONCERN OF THEIR FAULTY CLOCKSPRING THAT CAN CAUSE FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS FROM PROPERLY DEPLOYING." *TR
THE AIRBAG CLOCK SPRING IS MALFUNCTIONING. *TR
START UP JEEP STARTED DRIVING AND AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF AND BUZZER. *TR
MY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER HAS DEVELOPED A TERRIBLE VIBRATION WHEN I HIT ROAD BUMPS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE WHOLE JEEP BEGINS TO VIBRATE TO THE POINT I HAVE TO PULLOVER AND STOP THE VEHICLE TO GAIN CONTROL. I INSTALLED NEW TIRES AND IT IS STILL OCCURRING. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO CHRYSLER CORP CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPT THEY ADVISED ME TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER TO DOCUMENT THE PROBLEM. THIS ISSUE BEGAN AT 50000 MILES. I REPLACED THE TIRES AND IT WENT AWAY IT HAS STATED AGAIN NOW AND REPLACING THE TIRES HAS NOT FIXED IT I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT CHRYSLER IS IGNORING THIS PROBLEM AS JEEP OWNERS KNOW ABOUT WHAT THEY CALL THE "DEATH WOBBLE" . I EXPECT THAT YOU WILL FOLLOW UP ON THIS AS IT IS TOTALLY IRRESPONSIBLE OF CHRYSLER TO CONTINUE TO SELL JEEPS THAT THEY KNOW HAVE DEFECTIVE PARTS.
AS WITH OTHER JEEP OWNERS, MY WRANGLER SUDDENLY FELL INTO THE 'DEATH WOBBLE'. WITH MANY ATTEMPTS AT REPAIR AND OVER $1500, THERE IS STILL AN UNRESOLVED ISSUE. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON, WITH AUDIO INDICATOR. NOTICED WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL HARD RIGHT OR LEFT, THE LIGHT WOULD GO OUT. WHEN RETURNED TO NEAR STRAIGHT, THE LIGHT AND CHIME WOULD COME ON, INDICATING AIRBAG PROBLEMS. AFTER CONDUCTING A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH, IT WAS FOUND THAT A FAULT CLOCKSPRING WAS THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS BEEN WELL DOCUMENTED SAFETY ISSUE ON JEEP WRANGLER VEHICLES. IT IS WELL DOCUMENTED WITH ALL YEARS INVOLVED, INCLUDING 2014. THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL FOR JEEP VEHICLES WITH A RIGHT HAND DRIVE. THIS SAFETY ISSUE CAUSES GREAT CONCERN THAT THE AIRBAG MAY NOT DEPLOY WHEN REQUIRED, OR IT MAY DEPLOY AT ANY GIVEN TIME, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. DAIMLER CHRYSLER HAS BEEN CONTACTED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, BUT REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE SAFETY CONCERN OF THEIR FAULTY CLOCKSPRING THAT CAN CAUSE FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS FROM PROPERLY DEPLOYING. *TR
THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM) IS FAULTY AS IT IS IN MANY WRANGLERS OF THIS YEAR. ON A REGULAR BASIS, THE HORN WILL ENGAGE CONTINUOUSLY, THE WIPERS TURN ONE, THE SPRAY NOZZLE SPRAYS FLUID, THE RADIO OCCASIONALLY WILL TURN OFF, THE HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF (DRIVING HAZARD AT NIGHT), AND THE DOORS LOCK SOMETIMES. ALL OF THIS HAPPENS AT THE SAME TIME. YOU CAN TURN THE KEY OFF AND TAKE IT OUT AND THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN AND THE PROBLEMS CONTINUE TO OCCUR UNTIL YOU EITHER UNHOOK THE BATTERY OR KNOCK ON TOP OF THE TIPM. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START. CODE GIVEN IS U0141 WHICH IS "LOSS OF COMMUNICATION WITH THE FRONT CONTROL MODULE (TIPM)." THIS IS A VERY WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE LATE 2007 AND 2008 YEARS OF THE WRANGLER MODEL. IT IS A FAULTY PRODUCT INSTALLED BY CHRYSLER AND MANY DEALERSHIPS RECOGNIZE THE ISSUE. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM.
ON 10/16/2013 THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON A FEW TIMES. BY 10/21/2013 THE LIGHT WAS CONTINUOUSLY GOING ON AND OFF. WHEN CHECKING THE MANUAL, IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT IT BE CHECKED BY A DEALERSHIP. THE MORNING OF 10/22/2013, IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE ORIGINAL PURCHASING DEALERSHIP. ON 10/24/2013, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE DRIVERS AIRBAG WAS DEFECTIVE BUT THAT OUR EXTENDED PURCHASED WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 60,000 AND IT WOULD NOT BE REPLACED UNLESS WE PAID $600.00 TO REPLACE IT. THE AIRBAGS HAVE NEVER BEEN TAMPERED WITH NOR HAS THE VEHICLE EVER BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT OF ANY KIND. THEY SPECIFICALLY STATE THAT IT IS DEFECTIVE. *TR
THE AIRBAG LIGHT BLINKS OFF AND ON AND DINGS ALL THE TIME. THE CLOCK SPRING IS BROKEN. *TR

WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED TO THE ON POSITION, THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPER ACTIVATED, THE HEADLIGHTS ILLUMINATED, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF THE PARK POSITION, AND THE HORN SOUNDED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES INTERMITTENTLY COUPLED WITH A CHIME. IT GOES ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING AND IRREGULAR INTERVALS. I'VE READ AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE ABOUT THE CAUSE AND HAVE DETERMINED IT IS A FAULTY CLOCK SPRING (MOPAR P/N 5156106AC) WHICH IS A SAFETY RESTRAINT COMPONENT BUT IS NOT COVERED BY A LONG TERM WARRANTY. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE THE PART IN QUESTION SEEMS TO FAIL OFTEN PER MY ONLINE RESEARCH AND HAS NEVER BEEN RECALLED AND IS DIRECTLY INFLUENCING THE SAFETY SYSTEMS. *TR

ALSO ON A DIFFERENT ISSUE, ON CERTAIN OCCASIONS I GO TO START MY VEHICLE AND I WILL HEAR A CLICK AND THE VEHICLE WILL REFUSE TO TURNOVER, IT IS A RANDOM OCCURRENCE THAT IS A HUGE INCONVENIENCE. SOMETIMES MY JEEP WILL START AFTER 5 OR 6 TRIES, OTHER TIMES IT CAN TAKE A HALF HOUR FOR IT TO FINALLY START UP. I HAVE TRIED CHANGING THE BATTERY TO NO AVAIL AND AM HESITANT TO HIRE SOMEONE TO GO THROUGH ALL OF THE WIRING HARNESS. *TR

FROM ONE DAY TO ANOTHER MY JEEP TURN ON THE ESP BAS LIGHT ALSO WITH THE ESP OFF LIGHT SO I THOUGHT THAT I HAD BAD ALIGNMENT ON MY TIRES SO THEN I WENT TO THE DEALER AND HE TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE CLOCK SPRING INSIDE MY STEERING WHEEL... I WAS READING THAT A LOT OF JEEP JK OWNERS ARE SUFFERING THIS ALSO JEEP ALREADY MADE A RECALL FOR RIGHT HAND DRIVERS BUT LEFT HAND DRIVERS ARE SUFFERING THE SAME. *TR
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE SO CALLED DEATH WOBBLE. AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 60-70MPH, WHEN I HIT AN IMPERFECTION IN THE ROAD, MY STEERING VIOLENTLY SHAKES FROM SIDE TO SIDE. AT THIS POINT, IT WILL ONLY STOP IF I SLOW DOWN TO SPEEDS BELOW 20MPH. THIS HAS PUT ME IN SEVERAL DANGEROUS SITUATIONS ON THE HIGHWAY, AS I SUDDENLY NEED TO STOP MY JEEP, REGARDLESS OF WHAT LANE I AM IN. THE STEERING STABILIZER HAS BEEN REPLACED, AND HAS NOT CHANGED THE PROBLEM. MY JEEP IS STOCK; NO LIFTS, AFTERMARKET WHEELS, ETC. I AM GETTING THIS WOBBLE ONCE EVERY FEW TRIPS ON A HIGHWAY. *JS
MY AIRBAG LIGHT IS CONSTANTLY ON AND MY CRUISE CONTROL NO LONGER WORKS. I AM A LHD 2008 WRANGLER AND AS I HAVE SEEN ACROSS THE INTERNET THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL ON THE LHD 2008 WRANGLERS WHEN THERE IS FOR THE RHD AND 2007 LHD WRANGLERS. THE SAME CLOCK SPRINGS ARE USED IN ALL THESE VEHICLES AND THEY ARE FAULTY ACROSS THE BOARD. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL AS MY AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IF I GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. CHRYSLER IS RESPONSIBLE AND SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS ISSUE IN MY MODEL YR AND LHD. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF I AM SITTING, DRIVE OR WHATEVER THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON AS SOON AS I START THE ENGINE AND MY CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK.

THE SAME DAY AFTER I GOT MY 5 YEAR POWER-TRAIN INSPECTION DONE, MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A BAD CLOCK SPRING BUT THE EXISTING RECALL FOR THIS PART ONLY COVERS RIGHT-HAND STEERING JEEPS AND MY JEEP IS A LEFT-HAND SO IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED. *TR

ORIGINAL OWNER. WHILE DESCENDING A LONG HILL I APPLIED MY BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN. THE VEHICLE, FRONT END, BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. IT TOOK SOME TIME TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, STOP SHAKING, WHILE DESCENDING WITH TRAFFIC. VERY UPSETTING. ALSO NOTICED THIS OCCURRENCE ON FLAT PAVEMENT AND VARIOUS SPEEDS, 40 TO 60 MPH. WE RECENTLY TOOK ANOTHER TRIP AND NOTICED THE PROBLEM IS OCCURRING FREQUENTLY. OUR FAMILY WOULD APPRECIATE NHTSA TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. I RECENTLY NOTICED OTHER COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO THIS ONE. JUST WONDERING IF JEEP CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND WHAT ARE THEY DOING ABOUT IT. MY WIFE WAS LEAVING WORK, AS SHE STARTED TO DRIVE AWAY IN OUR JEEP WRANGLER THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND CHIMED. IT HAS CONTINUED TO DO SO, INTERMITTENTLY, EVER SINCE THEN. I WAS WORKING OUT OF TOWN AT THE TIME WHEN I RECEIVED A CALL FROM HER. SHE WAS CONCERNED THAT THE AIRBAG MAY DEPLOY UNEXPECTEDLY OR WORSE, NOT WORK IF SHE WERE TO GET INTO A WRECK. I WAS ABLE TO DO A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH AND FIND MANY JEEP WRANGLER OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE, A FAULTY CLOCK SPRING. FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN, THE 2007 JEEP WRANGLERS HAVE AN EXTENDED FACTORY WARRANTY TO COVER THIS ISSUE. UNFORTUNATELY, FOR MY WIFE AND MYSELF, WE ARE NOT FINANCIALLY ABLE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR WHAT I'M TOLD IS ABOUT A $500 REPAIR FOR OUR 2008 WRANGLER. I AM MORE THEN WILLING TO REPAIR OR PAY FOR REPAIRS OF ITEMS THAT WEAR OUT OR NEED TO BE REPLACED WHILE OWNING AND MAINTAINING A VEHICLE. HOWEVER, REPLACING A CLOCK SPRING TO HELP MAINTAIN THE FUNCTIONALITY OF MY VEHICLES AIRBAG SYSTEM IS NOT SOMETHING THAT IS COMMONLY EVER REPLACED. THE AMOUNT OF JEEP WRANGLER OWNERS THAT HAVE COME TO THE INTERNET TO VOICE THEIR CONCERN ON THE MATTER MAKES IT APPARENT TO ME THAT THIS IS EITHER A SUB-PAR PART OR DESIGN FLAW AND CHRYSLER/JEEP SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IT.

WHILE DRIVING APPROX. 55 MPH DOWN PAVED ROAD JEEP SUDDENLY BEGAN CONSTANT HORN HONK, WIPERS STARTED GOING, EVERY DASH LIGHT CAME ON(ABS, ENGINE, AIRBAG, ETC). THIS CONTINUED FOR ABOUT 1 MINUTE THEN STOPPED. WE TURNED AROUND TO GO BACK HOME AND ABOUT 2 MINUTES LATER SAME THING BEGAN AGAIN. THE SECOND TIME, ALONG WITH ABOVE SYMPTOMS, WE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AND WERE UNABLE TO ACCELERATE TO MAINTAIN SPEED. WE PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED KEY OFF. HORN, AND WIPERS KEPT GOING. THEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPER SPRAYERS STARTED SPRAYING CONTINUOUSLY. WE WERE UNABLE TO START JEEP AT THIS TIME. THIS WENT ON FOR ABOUT 3 MINUTES AND FINALLY STOPPED. JEEP THEN STARTED AND WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE HOME.
WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN SPEED REACHED 55 -60 MPH, THE STEERING HAD A SMALL SHAKING TO IT. AS TIME AND MORE MILES WENT BY, IT TURNED INTO UNCONTROLLABLE STEERING. I HAD TO LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND COAST TO A SLOWER SPEED. EVENTUALLY I COULD NOT DRIVE THE JEEP UNTIL I CHANGED THE TORSION BAR, TIE ROD ENDS AND STEERING STABILIZER, (TWICE, THE LAST TIME WITH A HEAVY DUTY ONE) AND THEN WHAT FIXED IT WAS THE STEERING GEAR BOX. BUT ONCE I CHANGED IT, THE WOBBLE OR UNCONTROLLABLE SHAKING STOPPED SO I GOT A FRONT END ALIGNMENT AND HAD TO CHANGE ALL FOUR BALL JOINTS DUE TO THE DAMAGE THE WOBBLE CAUSED. THAT HAS BEEN ABOUT 10 MONTHS AND THE SMALL SHAKING HAS STARTED UP AGAIN. GETTING WORSE TO WORSE AS TIME AND MILEAGE GOES BY.
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND OFF THEN CAME ON AND STAYS ON MOST OF THE TIME. WARNING BEEP SOUNDS EVERY TIME I TURN A CORNER. TOOK IT TO A JEEP DEALER AND HE SAID IT WAS THE CLOCK SPRING AND WOULD COST $480.00 TO REPLACE IT. I READ ON A JEEP OWNERS FORUM THAT 2007 JEEPS HAD WARRANTY EXTENDED TO COVER THIS. SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF 2008 JEEP OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT CHRYSLER IS UNWILLING TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY FOR US. *JB
GAS SPEWS OUT AND DOES NOT SHUT OFF CORRECTLY WHEN TANK IS FULL. KEEPS SHUTTING OFF GAS WHEN IT IS NOT FULL CAUSING IT TO TAKE AN EXTREMELY LONG TIME TO FILL, BUT WILL NOT SHUT OFF WHEN TANK IS FULL AND WILL SPIT BACK GAS AND OVER FLOW. *TR
AUGUST 29 2013, MY AIRBAG LIGHT TURNED ON AND CHIMED CONTINUOUSLY ON MY WAY TO WORK. THINKING THIS MAY HAVE BEEN A FLUKE, I DROVE IT FOR ANOTHER 24 HOURS TO SEE IF IT WOULD CORRECT ITSELF. NOW, OVER 24 HOURS LATER, THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO PERSIST. THE DEALERSHIP IN MY AREA CLAIMED TO BE BACKED UP FOR THE NEXT WEEK OR TWO AND DID NOT GIVE ME REASON AS TO WHY THIS MIGHT BE HAPPENING. AFTER SEARCHING THE PROBLEM ON BOTH THE TSB AND OPEN FORUMS, I FOUND THAT THE CAUSE IS THE CLOCKSPRING IN MOST JK'S. I HAVE ALSO FOUND THAT THE WARRANTY FOR THE CLOCKSPRING ON THE 2007 JK HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO 10 YEARS/150,000MILES. ALSO, THE (2008-2012 RIGHT HAND DRIVES) HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED AS HAVING CLOCKSPRING PROBLEMS. I DRIVE A 2008 JK ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND MAY CAUSE A NON-DEPLOYED AIR BAG WHEN AN AIR BAG IS NEEDE. PLEASE HELP RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. THANK YOU.
POWERFUL SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT WHEELS AFTER A HITTING A ROAD BUMP AT ABOUT 50 MPH. THE SHAKING CONTINUED AS I LET OFF THE GAS AND TRIED TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT TOOK TWO OF US GRASPING THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET IT OFF THE ROAD. IF I HAD NOT BEEN IN THE SLOW LANE TO BEGIN WITH, I MOST LIKELY WOULD HAVE HAD A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. AFTER DOING SOME ON-LINE RESEARCHING, I HAVE FOUND THIS PROBLEM IS CALLED "THE DEATH WOBBLE" AND CHRYSLER IS WELL AWARE OF IT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD ME MY TIRES NEEDED TO BE BALANCED AND PROCEEDED TO DO SO. ON AUGUST 10TH ON A TRIP TO TULSA WHILE I HAD MY CRUISE SET ON OR ABOUT 70MPH I RECEIVED AN AIRBAG ALERT ON MY DASH. WHILE DRIVING 45MPH AND MAKING A SLIGHT BEND TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT, THE VEHICLE ENCOUNTERED A SLIGHT BUMP AND THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I HAD TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP ALONG THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN ORDER TO GET THE SHAKING TO STOP. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES DURING THIS TRIP. THE STEERING ACTUALLY FEELS MORE LOOSE ONCE THIS WARMED UP CONDITION IS MET. DURING STATE VEHICLE INSPECTION LOCAL GARAGE DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE BRAKE LINE HAD BEEN WORN THROUGH FROM THE FRONT TIRE RUBBING ON IT WHEN WHEELS TURNED TO THE LEFT. GARAGE SUGGESTED CHECKING WITH JEEP DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF A RECALL WAS IN AFFECT. TOOK VEHICLE TO JEEP DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND SERVICE MANAGER SAID NO RECALL WAS IN AFFECT HOWEVER JEEP HAD PUBLISHED A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS ISSUE AND RE-DESIGNED THE BRAKE LINES AFFECTED. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THE ISSUE WAS FROM ROAD MOISTURE/DEBRIS SEEPING THROUGH THE RUBBER BOOTS COVERING THE BRAKE LINE FITTINGS WHICH CAUSED EXCESS CORROSION TO BUILD WITHIN THE RUBBER BOOTS TRIGGERING THE BOOTS TO "SWELL" CAUSING THE CONTACT WITH THE TIRE. THERE WAS AN INFERENCE MADE BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THE VEHICLE'S TIRES MAY HAVE ATTRIBUTED TO THIS FROM THEIR TREAD DESIGN HOWEVER THE TIRE SIZE MATCHES THE MANUFACTURER SPECS ON THE LABEL INSIDE THE DOOR JAM. APPEARS TO BE A FAULTY DESIGN OF THE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER BRAKE LINES. *TR

MY JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED 2008 UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS HAVE WORN OUT AT 49,000 MILES. THEY HAVE CAUSED BRAND NEW TIRES RATED FOR 60,000 MILES TO WEAR OUT AT 20,000 MILES. THE BALL JOINTS THAT WERE INSTALLED BY THE FACTORY WERE DESIGNED TO NOT ALLOW ONGOING MAINTENANCE TO THEM. THERE IS NOT A WELL TO PUT GREASE IN TO KEEP THE BALL JOINTS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY.
