TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER LTD. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 50 MPH WHEN THE FRONT END BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND THE VEHICLE BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE. THE VEHICLE HAD TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BEFORE THE SHAKING STOPPED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN VARIOUS REASONS FOR THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER INSPECTED OR REPAIRED HOWEVER THE CONTACT SECURED AN APPOINTMENT FOR FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,300.
THE HEAD LIGHTS WILL NOT STAY ON WHEN TURNED ON. WHEN THE HEAD LIGHT SWITCH IS TURNED ON THE COME ON THEN OFF AND WILL NOT COME BACK ON. THE HORN WILL BLOW WITH OUT PUSHING THE HORN BUTTON AND AT THE SAME TIME THE HORN BLOWS THE WINDSHIELD WASHER SPRAYER SPRAYS WATER. AFTER THE JEEP AS SIT FOR SEVERAL DAYS WITHOUT BEING STARTED THE MOTOR WILL NOT TURN OVER. THE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED AND ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIGHTS UP WHEN KEY IS TURNED ON BUT THE STARTER WILL NOT EVEN TRY TO TURN OVER THE MOTOR. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO START THE MOTOR SEVERAL TIMES THE STARTER WILL EVENTUALLY START THE MOTOR. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE "TIPM" IN 2007. THE PROBLEMS THAT ARE OCCURRING WITH MY JEEP ARE THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT WERE OCCURRING WITH THE JEEP RECALLS IN 2007. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE AND RECALL THIS TIPM AS WELL. WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 60 MPH AND THEN BEGIN TO SLOW DOWN ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY (SLIGHT BUMPS IN THE ROAD). THE STEERING WHEEL BEGINS TO WOBBLE BACK AND FORTH VIOLENTLY AND THE WHOLE VEHICLE SHAKES LIKE CRAZY. MUST SLOW DOWN IMMEDIATELY (ALMOST TO A STOP) AND THEN THE SHAKING CEASES. I'VE HEARD IT CALLED THE "DEATH WOBBLE" AND I UNDERSTAND WHY. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE LAST 4 YEARS AND THE JEEP DEALERSHIP HAS "FIXED" THE PROBLEM NUMEROUS TIMES. MY WIFE AND CHILDREN ARE AFRAID TO RIDE IN THE VEHICLE, AND I CANNOT, IN GOOD CONSCIENCE, SELL THE VEHICLE TO ANYONE. THE CONDITION SEEMS VERY DANGEROUS TO ME. *TR
ON THE 2008 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) DASHBOARD, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT FLASHES ON EVERY OTHER MINUTE WITH A CHIME, AN INDICATION THAT THERE IS SOMETHING MALFUNCTIONING OR INTERFERING WITH THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS. THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING ISSUE AND CONCERN FOR MANY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) OWNERS, INCLUDING MYSELF, AND HAS BEEN SHOWN TIME AND TIME AGAIN TO BE CAUSED BY A FAULTY CLOCKSPRING WITHIN THE VEHICLE'S STEERING WHEEL. THIS FAULTY CLOCKSPRING IS THE CULPRIT FOR POTENTIAL AIRBAG FAILURE IN THE 2008 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) DURING AN ACCIDENT OR PREMATURE DEPLOYMENT WHEN SIMPLY DRIVING AROUND.. *TR
WHILE OPERATING MY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER THE AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH WITH A NOTIFICATION NOISE EVERY FEW MINUTES AND HAS CONTINUED SINCE. THE DASH LIGHT DOES NOT SHUT OFF AT THIS TIME, STAYS ILLUMINATED AND THE NOTIFICATION NOISE APPROX EVERY MINUTE. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH THIS IS THE SAME PART NUMBER THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED ON THE 2007 MODELS AS WELL AS THE 2008 RIGHT HAND SIDE. *TR
CLOCK SPRING HAS FAILED, THIS HAS BEEN RECALLED ON THE RHD MODELS. HORN NO LONGER WORKS AND I AM UNSURE IF THE AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY. WHY IS IT NOT IN RECALL ON THE LHD VEHICLES AS WELL? *TR
DRIVER AIRBAG LAMP TURNS ON-OFF. LOSES CRUISE CONTROL SPEED WHEN SET. AIRBAG LIGHT TURNS OFF ON RIGHT TURN AND TURNS ON WITH CHIME WHEN STRAIGHT. CONFIRMED BY CHRYSLER DEALER AS CLOCK SPRING FAULT. DRIVER SQUIB #2 OPEN CORRODED. DEALER STATES NO RECALL OR WARRANTY FOR REPAIR. DEALER REPAIR COST QUOTE $480.21. DEALER STATES WHEN AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON AIRBAG WILL NOT OPERATOR. BELIEVE DEFECTIVE CLOCK SPRING CONTROLLING SAFETY DEVICE AIRBAG IS SAME CONCERN AS THE SEATBELTS ON MY JEEP WHICH WOULD NOT RELEASE FOR USE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE SEATBELT. SO WHY WILL DEALER NOT REPLACE UNDER WARRANTY THE CLOCKSPRING? I WILL CALL CHRYSLER FOR WARRANTY REPAIR APPROVAL. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS STEAD FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. OCCASIONALLY GOES OFF, TO ONLY REAPPEAR WITH A CHIME. *TR
DEATH WOBBLE, TERRIBLE STEERING SHIMMER. DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH. HIT ONE BUMP ON THE ROAD AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I NEEDED TO SLAM ON THE BREAKS TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM MAYBE FLIPPING OVER. IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE, BUT NOT THIS VIOLENT. TO FIX THIS I INSTALLED A DUAL STEERING STABILIZER SET UP MADE BY SKYJACKER. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT AND CHIME GO OFF AND ON WHILE DRIVING FOR NO REASON. HAPPENS EVERY FEW MINUTES WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR OVER SIX MONTHS. *TR
AFTER 3 YR, THE CAR WOULD NOT START. BATTERY WAS REPLACED AND CAR WOULD NOT START. AFTER 3 DAYS THE CAR STARTED AND NOW INTERMITTENT THE CAR WOULD NOT START. DEALER DOES NOT KNOW WHY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE AFTER DRIVING OVER A ROAD BUMP OR WHEN MAKING A TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE VEHICLE WOULD BECOME HARD TO CONTROL WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING HOWEVER, THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED A CASE FOR THE CONTACT (CASE NUMBER: 22425937). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 39,000.

THE CLOCKSPRING ASSEMBLY IN THE STEERING COLUMN FAILS CAUSING ONE OR MORE OPEN CIRCUITS TO THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG. SERVICE BULLETIN EXISTS FOR FACTORY REPLACEMENT OF THE 2007 POSTAL VERSION, CHRYSLER EXTENDED COVERAGE FOR ALL OF 2007 MODEL YEAR WRANGLERS. THE PROBLEM ALSO EXISTS IN THE 2008 MODEL YEAR. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CLOCKSPRING REPLACED FOR A REDUCED COST 'CO-PAY' THRU CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE BUT THE LACK OF A SERVICE BULLETIN COVERING THE 2008 MODEL YEAR MADE RESOLUTION OF THE PROBLEM AN UNUSUAL PROCESS. MOST CONSUMERS WOULD INCUR AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR FOR A KNOWN PROBLEM. WORSE, THE PROBLEM WAS MISDIAGNOSED BY THE SERVICE COMPUTER AND ERRONEOUSLY INDICATED THE AIR BAG WAS DEFECTIVE. *TR
DRIVING ON MOUNTAIN ROAD AT APPROX. 25 MPH WHEN THE AIRBAG CAUTION LIGHT CAME ON. COMES ON AND OFF APPROX. EVERY 15 TO 30 SECONDS NO MATTER WHAT SPEED THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING. *TR

WHEN EVER I FILL UP WITH GAS, FUEL SPITS BACK OUT AT ME. *TR
HIT BUMPS IN THE ROAD AND THE FRONT END STARTING SHAKING VERY BADLY. HAD TO COME TO A STOP FOR THE SHAKING TO STOP. THE FAMOUS JEEP DEATH WOBBLE. AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY ACTED LIKE THEY NEVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM BEFORE. AFTER SEEING THESE COMPLAINTS I REALIZE ITS A COMMON PROBLEM AND JEEP SHOULD OF FIXED IT. IT COST ME $400.00 TO FIX IT. ALSO SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS FUNNY. THEY KEEP TELLING ME THERE IS NO FIX FOR THIS AND IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS TRANSMISSION. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED AT NIGHT, HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY WENT OUT. THEY REMAIN OUT FOR OVER 5 SECONDS, MAY COME BACK ON JUST TO GO OUT AGAIN. IN OTHER INSTANCES SINCE STARTED, HEADLIGHT BEHAVIOR WILL BECOME SUDDENLY ERRATIC, ONE LIGHT WILL GO OUT WHILE OTHER REMAINS ON, OR BOTH MAY GO OUT. WHEN THIS EMERGENCY CONDITION OCCURS, HIGH BEAMS OR FOG LIGHTS MUST BE ACTIVATED TO MAINTAIN VISIBILITY, AND CONTROL OF VEHICLE. SINCE FIRST OCCURRENCE BOTH BULBS HAVE BEEN CHANGED BUT INCIDENTS CONTINUED TO OCCUR. HEADLIGHTS ARE STOCK BULBS. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT WAS STOPPED ON AN INCLINE AND ATTEMPTED TO UTILIZE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHEN THE BRAKE EXHIBITED A LOUD POP. THE LEVER THEN FRACTURED IN THE CONTACT'S HAND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER HOWEVER, AN INSPECTION WAS NOT PERFORMED. THE CONTACT REPAIRED THE LEVER BY REPLACING THE PARKING BRAKE CONTROL ARM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,860.
MY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER AIRBAG LIGHT TURNED ON AN WOULDN'T TURN OFF. WE TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY JUST TOLD US THAT THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG ON THE SCAN BUT THE ONLY WAY TO TURN OFF THE SENSOR IS TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG AT $750.00. REALLY? NOTHING WRONG BUT IT WILL COST $750.00 PLUS LABOR TO TURN OFF THE SENSOR LIGHT? DOES THIS MEAN THE AIRBAG WORKS OR NOT? SEEMS MANY ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND IS JEEP WAITING FOR AN AIRBAG NOT TO DEPLOY AND HAVE SOMEONE KILLED BEFORE THE RECALL STARTS? ANY ADVICE IS HELPFUL!*JB
THE TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE FAILED WHILE ACCELERATING ONTO FREEWAY. THE JEEP GOT STUCK IN SECOND GEAR WHILE MERGING. HAPPENED ABOUT THREE TIMES. TOOK TWO WEEKS TO REPAIR BECAUSE OF BACK ORDERS FOR THE PART. *TR
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds or while the vehicle was parked, the horn would sound, the windshield wipers would engage while the windshield washer would spray washer fluid on the windshield, the doors would lock and unlock, and the headlights would turn on an off intermittently. The contact stated that the vehicle would lose electrical and motive power and become difficult to steer. The contact stated that the failure had occurred at least 30 times since owning the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and several dealers who were unable to diagnose and determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that he was informed that this was a known issue with Jeep vehicles. The contact stated that there was a recall for the issue for other years, makes, and models however, his vehicle was not included. The contract also did not have the recall information to provide. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I WAS AT SPEED, 55MPH, WHEN THE ENGINE CUT OFF, IT ALSO FELT LIKE IT DOWNSHIFTED, ALL THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON, THE WIPERS TURNED ON. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE, NO GO. I DID MAKE IT SAFELY TO THE SHOULDER FROM THE FAR LEFT LANE THROUGH TRAFFIC WITH NO POWER STEERING. AS I CAME TO A STOP, THE WIPERS SPED UP AND THE HORN STARTED BLARING. I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND IT DID. BUT EVERYTHING WAS STILL GOING HAYWIRE. I TRIED TO TURNOFF THE ENGINE AND IT WOULD NOT CUT OFF, EVEN AFTER REMOVING THE KEY. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES, IT ALL STOPPED. I RESTARTED AND MADE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. WIPERS AND HORN GOING OFF NOW AND THEN. PULLED INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE WIPERS AND HORN ACTED UP AGAIN FULL BLARE. SERVICE AGENT WALKED OUT, OPENED THE HOOD AND HIT THE TIPM AND EVERYTHING STOPPED. IT APPEARED HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND DIDN'T SEEMED SURPRISED AT ALL. I HAVE SEEN OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. THIS IS CLEARLY A HIGH-RISK SAFETY ISSUE AND IT DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE ISOLATED. I AM SURPRISED THAT THERE ISN'T A RECALL ON THIS ITEM. I AM AWAITING CALL FOR DIAGNOSES OF THE PROBLEM BUT IT SEEMS APPARENT AT THIS POINT THAT IT IS THE TIPM. *JS
WHEN TRYING TO PULL AWAY IN FIRST GEAR THE TRANSMISSION WILL SUDDENLY AND VIOLENTLY SLAM OUT OF FIRST GEAR. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS WHILE PULLING AWAY FROM A LIGHT AFTER IT HAD TURNED FROM RED TO GREEN, HOW EVER SUBSEQUENT OCCURRENCES HAVE HAPPENED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE LEFT TURNS AND ONE SUCH OCCURRENCE LED TO A NEAR COLLISION ON OCTOBER 16TH 2012 WHILE DRIVING WITH MY PREGNANT WIFE IN THE VEHICLE. THIS SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY, ONCE A WEEK NOW. CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT IT BUT NO SAFETY RECALL. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE FOR PEOPLE WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. THE TSB NUMBER FROM CHRYSLER IS 21-001-10 REV. A. *TR
RATTLING NOISE UNDER THE BODY-TURNED OUT THE WELD ON THE HEAT SHIELD NNEDED TO BE REWELDED BRAKE LINES WERE BEING RUBBED THROUGH BY THE TIRES-NEW BRAKE LINES HAD BEEN UPDATED TO STEEL AND ROUTE CLOSE TO THE BODY INSTEAD OF RUBBER ONES THAT ROUTE CLOSE TO THE TIRE "HOT OIL" LIGHT COMES ON. DEALERSHIP SAID TO ADD AN ADDITIONAL TRANSMISSION COOLER AS THE FACTORY ONE IS INSUFFICIENT. TMPS LOW TIRE LIGHT AND SENTRY KEY LIGHT COME ON AND OFF TOGETHER REPEATEDLY. IN PARK THE LIGHTS WOULD FLASH, HONR HONKS, WINDSHIELD WIPERS FRONT IN BACK WOULD TURN ON AND SRPAY FLUID, CLICKING NOISE AND BURNING SMELL FROM FUSE BOX, FAN AND ACCESSORIES WOULD RUN WITHOUT BEING TURNED ON. THESE WOULD OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED OR WHEN A DOOR WOULD BE OPENED EVEN WITH NO KEY IN THE IGNITION. DEALERSHIP SAID TIPM WAS GOING OUT. I FOUND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. ALL OF THESE ISSUES ARE SAFETY HAZARDS AND THROUGH SIMLE RESEARCH HAVE FOUND A COMMON PROBLEM FOR JK WRANGLERS. *TR
AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS MY JEEP STARTED WHAT IS COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE "JEEP DEATH SHAKE" FORCING ME TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE AND ALMOST LOSING CONTROL. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON. CRUISE CONTROL NO LONGER WORKS, HORN DOESN'T WORK AND AIR BAGS DON'T WORK. DEALERSHIP SAYS IT'S A BAD CLOCK SPRING BUT IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. HAD TO BUY AND REPLACE COMPONENT MYSELF. SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR FAULTY CLOCK SPRING AS MANY 07-08 JEEP JK'S ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. IT IS UNSAFE TO HAVE NO AIRBAGS AND NO HORN. *TR
MOVING ALONG ROAD AT 55 MPH. VEHICLE FRONT END BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. STEERING WHEEL ALSO SHOOK VIOLENTLY. I HAD TO QUICKLY CHANGE LANES AND SLOW DOWN TO HAVE VEHICLE STOP SHAKING. THIS VIOLENT SHAKING ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENT. I HAD VEHICLE WORKED ON TWO MONTHS AGO FOR SHIMMY. NOW IT IS VIOLENTLY SHAKING. TOOK VEHICLE BACK ONTO JEEP DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD IT IS A TIRE ISSUE. THAT THE TIRES HAVE FLAT SPOTS. I HAVE HAD THE TIRES CHECKED AND BALANCED AND THEY ARE GOOD. I BOUGHT THE TIRES ONE YEAR AGO NEW AND HAVE NOT HAD ISSUES TILL TODAY. I AM A SOLDIER IN THE ARMY AND HAVE SERVED 28 YEARS. I HAVE SPENT TWO COMBAT DEPLOYMENTS IN IRAQ. THIS SHOOK ME UP ALMOST WRECKING MY VEHICLE FROM THE VIOLENT SHAKING. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED. WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. LARGE AMOUNTS OF GASOLINE SPRAYS OUT WHEN REFUELING THE VEHICLE. THE GASOLINE COMES OUT WITH SUCH FORCE THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO AVOID GETTING GASOLINE ON HAND, ARM AND CLOTHING. IT OCCURS WHEN THE TANK BECOMES FULL. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE GAS STATIONS PUMP. THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS 11V528000 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL); HOWEVER THE VIN WAS INELIGIBLE UNDER THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.

I HAVE BEEN IN THE SHOP 6 TIMES SINCE DEC 2011 FOR NUMEROUS PROBLEMS. NOW WE HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP 2 TIMES IN LESS THEN 1 WEEK FOR IT NOT STARTING. HAD BEEN SMELLING RAW GAS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. FINALLY TRACKED DOWN TO FUEL LINE COMING FROM GAS TANK. PLASTIC ELBOW UNDER DRIVER SEAT (RHD POSTAL JEEP) HAS PINHOLE AND HAS BEEN SQUIRTING A FINE STREAM OF FUEL ONTO BOTTOM OF VEHICLE. IF IT HAD SQUIRTED ON EXHAUST OR ANY OTHER HOT SURFACE, IT WOULD SURELY CAUSE A FIRE. WONDER IF ANY OTHER ELBOWS HAVE FAILED ON OTHER VEHICLES, AND ALSO IF THERE ARE ANY FUEL LINE ELBOWS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT? COULD BE EXPLANATION FOR ENGINE FIRES THAT ARE BEING INVESTIGATED. LOCAL JEEP DEALER HAD REPLACED FUEL TANK ON 10-19-11 DUE TO A RECALL ABOUT FUEL SPILLING OUT OF FILLER TUBE AFTER FUEL HANDLE CLICKED OFF. NEVER NOTICED GAS SMELL BEFORE THE TANK WAS REPLACED. *TR
