THE DRIVERS SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLD IS CRACKED, A WELL KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL CHRYSLER MODELS. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 JEEP RIGHT HAND DRIVE WRANGLER THAT I USE ON MY MAIL ROUTE. I BOUGHT IN 2010, SO FAR I CONSIDER IT TO BE A LEMON, I HAVE HAD TROUBLE STARTING IT AND I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE COOLING LINES TO THE TRANSMISION FIXED AND NOW MY AIR BAGS WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON,. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND ALL THE SUDDEN THE WHOLE VEHICLE INCLUDING THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE HORRIBLY. I DON'T FEEL LIKE I CAN CONTROL THE STEERING WHEN THIS OCCURS. STEPPING ON THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN/STOP MAKES IT WORSE. ONCE I DROP BACK BELOW 40 MPH IT STOPS, TIL THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENS. IN THE BEGINNING IT WAS ONLY OCCASIONALLY. RECENTLY IT HAS BEEN OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY. IT IS VERY SCARY WHEN THIS OCCURS. MY MECHANIC REPLACED THE STEERING DAMPENER BUT THAT DID NOT FIX THIS ISSUE. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS ISSUE IS BUT IT IS NOT SAFE TO BE DRIVING WHILE THIS IS OCCURRING. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE GAS TANK, ANYWHERE FROM A CUP TO A QUART OR MORE OF FUEL OVERFLOWS AND SPRAYS OUT AND DOWN THE SIDE OF MY JEEP AND ONTO THE GROUND (OR EVEN ON TO ME IF I'M STANDING BY IT) AFTER THE PUMP STOPS. I BOUGHT THE JEEP USED, AND IT HAS DONE THIS AT EVERY FILL UP SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE. *TR
DEATH WOBBLE - WHEN I REACH A SPEED OF OVER 45 AND HIT A ROUGH PATCH, MY FRONT TWO TIRES START WOBBLING UNCONTROLLABLY. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO SLOW DOWN ALMOST TO A STOP. I HAVE JUST 31,000 MILES ON MY JEEP (NO MODIFICATION AND STOCK TIRES). THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. IF MY WIFE HAD THIS HAPPEN, I DOUBT SHE WOULD BE ABLE TO SAFELY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TOOK IT INTO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP. THEY PUT A NEW STEERING DAMPER ON IT AND SAID THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. IT DID NOT. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT I GO TO CHRYSLER. *KB
THE "AIRBAG-WARNING-LIGHT" IN THE DASHBOARD OF MY JEEP WRANGLER X COMES ON AND STAYS ON, INCLUDING MAKING THE "PEEPING WARNING SOUND" EVER SO OFTEN. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AS THE "CLOCK-SPRING" IN THE STEERING WHEEL (AN APPROX. $400+ REPAIR). THIS IS NOT ONLY AN EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE REPAIR, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND CONCERN, ESPECIALLY FOR A JUST OVER 3 YEAR YOUNG CAR, JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. THE AIRBAG(S) WILL NOT DEPLOY IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT AS LONG AS THE "AIRBAG-WARNING-LIGHT" IN THE DASHBOARD IS ON. I HAVE READ THAT A LOT OF JEEP OWNERS, AS WELL AS OTHERS, ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD DEFINITELY BE A RECALL, SINCE THE CLOCK-SPRING SHOULD NOT BE DEFECTIVE AFTER JUST 3 YEARS. THIS SEEMS LIKE A FAULTY PART, WHICH SHOULD BE REPLACED AT MANUFACTURES EXPENSE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN REFUELING THE VEHICLE, FUEL WILL SPILL OUT LEAKING ALL THE OVER THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AS NEEDING A NEW FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000. UPDATED 05/08/12*LJ
GOING UP TO 50 MPH,,,,GET SEVERE SHAKING,,,NOT SAFE AT ALL,,,I HAVE SPENT OVER $1000 ON REPAIRS, RE ALIGNMENTS, ROTATIONS AND HAD THE STEERING DAMPER REPLACED 2X BY JEEP,,,,STILL DOES THE WOBBLE,,,,I AM FURIOUS ABOUT THIS.THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS.THE JEEP DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME THEY HAVE DONE ALL THEY CAN DO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 45 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND THE HORN WOULD NOT SOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V528000 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL). THE DEALER REPLACED THE CLOCK SPRING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,000. UPDATED 03/02/12*LJ
THE WARRANTY HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO 150,000 MILES ON THE 2007 WRANGLERS, BUT NOT ON THE 2008 WRANGLERS. THEY ARE THE SAME PART NUMBER, WHY WAS CHRYSLER NOT FORCED TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON 2008'S? THE COCKSPRING FAILURE CAUSES THE AIRBAG TO NOT DEPLOY. *TR
THE VEHICLE WHEN FILLING WITH GASOLINE OVERFLOWS EACH AND EVERY TIME REGARDLESS OF FILLING STATION USED. THIS IS A KNOWN JEEP WRANGLER PROBLEM FOR 2007-2008 MODELS BUT CHRYSLER IS NOT CORRECTING THE PROBLEM FOR VEHICLES BUILT AFTER MARCH 31,2008. MY BUILD DATE IS 06-08. I DON'T KNOW WHAT CHANGED AFTER 3/31/08 BUT THE PROBLEM EXISTS FOR JEEPS BUILT AFTER THAT DATE. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION BOTH PUBLIC SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL. DEALER WANTS $100 TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO STEP UP AND FIX THIS KNOWN SAFETY DEFECT. *TT
WHEN TRYING TO FILL GAS TANK IT WILL NOT TAKE THE FUEL AS IT SHUTS THE PUMP OFF. IT TAKES ABOUT 20 MINUTES TO PUT IN $10 WORTH OF GAS IN. IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE.
2008 JEEP JK GAS FILLER TUBE OVERFLOWS WHEN AUTOMATIC GAS SHUTOFF OCCURS DURING REFUELING EVERYTIME. IT HAS OCCURRED AT MANY DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS AND PUMPS. GAS COMES OUT AND COATS THE VEHICLE AND GROUND. *TR
HORN STOPPED WORKING AND AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATING INTERMITTENTLY. I KNEW I WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION SO I BROUGHT IT TO AUTO REPAIR SHOP. THEY DISCOVERED CLOCK SPRING MODULE DEFECTIVE AND $400.00 TO REPAIR. THESE ARE TWO NOT ONE SIMULTANEOUS SAFETY FAILURES (HORN AND AIRBAG) RESULTING FROM DEFECTIVE CLOCK SPRING.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON THE DRIVER SIDE STAYS ON, AND WILL NOT GO OFF.
AIRBAG LIGHT TURNS ON. AIR BAG WON'T DEPLOY IF THE LIGHT IS ON. THE CLOCKSPRING IS BAD. *TR
MANUAL TRANS POPS OUT OF FIRST GEAR WHEN STARTING OFF FROM STOP. DID NOT HAPPEN OFTEN AT FIRST. OVER COURSE OF TIME IT HAPPENED MORE AND MORE. TOOK TO DEALER 5/8/2013 WITH 76800 MILES AS IT WAS HAPPENING ALMOST DAILY. THEY FIXED IT BY ADJUSTING SHIFTER BOOT ( I THINK THERE IS A CHRYSLER TSB ON PROBLEM) AND IT WAS OKAY FOR ABOUT 90 DAYS AND IT IS DOING IT AGAIN. DEALER HAS BEEN WONDERFUL BUT THEIR HANDS ARE TIED.THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. *TR
1. THE HORN AND POSSIBLY THE AIRBAG IS NOT WORKING. 2. WE NOW HAVE TO PURCHASE $300 IN PARTS BECAUSE THE AIRBAG CLOCK SPRING HAS MALFUNCTIONED. *TR
SEVERE STEERING VIBRATION RESUTS WHEN HITTING A BUMP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (60+). PROBLEM IS WORST WHEN ALSO TURNING (EX: ON AN OVERPASS). I LOSS DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AND NEARLY HIT THE CONCRETE DIVIDER BEFORE REGAINING CONTROL AS THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN. STEERING STABILIZER/SHOCK WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BY DEALERSHIP.
FUEL DOES NOT SHUT-OFF AT FUEL PUMP AND GAS SPILLS OUT EVERY TIME I RE-FUEL. THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T FIX THIS WHEN I RECENTLY HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED BECAUSE IT WASN'T A RE-CALL. I HAVE SINCE COMPLAINED AND IT WILL BE FIXED UNDER WARRANTY DURING MY NEXT VISIT. *TT
GAS OVERFLOW AT TIME OF VEHICLE FILLUP. *TR
ON OCCASION MY JEEP WILL NOT CRANK. THE KEY WILL TURN ON, DASHBOARD LIGHTS WILL COME ON, BUT JUST WILL NOT CRANK. THE BATTERY HAS BEEN CHECKED AND IS GOOD. AFTER SEVERAL TRIES IT WILL FINALLY CRANK. THIS OCCURS AT NO CERTAIN TIME OF DAY. IT SOMETIMES HAS HAPPENED 3 DAYS IN A ROW. OTHER TIMES A WEEK WILL PASS BEFORE IT HAPPENS AGAIN.
HAVE JK 2R RUBICON MODEL. WHEN TRAVELING IN THE HIGH COUNTRY IN COLORADO I START TO SMELL FUEL FUMES AROUND NOON AND THEY DO NOT GO AWAY UNTIL WE REFUEL AT THE END OF THE DAY. THE FUEL TANK GET SO HOT THE ETHANOL BOILS OFF AND THE EMISSION SYSTEM CANNOT HANDLE THE FUMES SO THEY VENT INTO THE ATMOSPHERE. THE JEEP FILLS WITH FUMES AND VEHICLES BEHIND CAN SMELL THEM TOO. ALL OF THE TWO DOOR JK MODELS WE TRAVEL WITH HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. JEEP HAS BEEN OF NO HELP AND SAY THEY KNOW OF THE PROBLEM BUT HAVE NO SOLUTION. IN THE LAST YEAR 2 OF US HAVE CONTACTED LARGE CELL LYMPHOMA. ETHANOL IS A CLASS ONE CARCINOGIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED WAS DRIVING 30 MPH, WHEN THE BRAKES BEGAN EXHIBITING A VERY LOUD GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE PAD HAD DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE CALIPERS AND ROTORS AS A RESULT OF THE INITIAL FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING THE NECESSARY PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE BELIEVED THE VEHICLE TO BE UNSAFE AND WAS CONCERNED WITH THE FAILURE RECURRING ON A DIFFERENT BRAKE PAD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,500.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY GOES ON AND OFF, THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON ABOUT A YEAR, NOW MY HORN WONT WORK. IM TOLD IT HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEP AROUND MY YEAR(2008). IN FACT 2007 HAD A RECALL ON THEIR CLOCK SPRING, WHICH IS NOW WHAT I'M BEING TOLD IS THE ISSUE. CHRYSLER HAS DONE NOTHING TO ASSIST OR ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE. *TR
DRIVING WESTBOUND ON M-59 IN HARTLAND, MI I HIT A VERY SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THE JEEP STARTED TO SHUDDER VERY VIOLENTLY. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STOP IN ORDER FOR THE SHUDDER TO GO AWAY. AFTER DOING MUCH RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, I HAVE NOW FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS CALLED THE DEATH WOBBLE AND IS A HIGHLY COMMON PROBLEM THAT CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF AND HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING TO LET THE PUBLIC KNOW OF THE ISSUE.

UPON ACCELERATION FROM A COMPLETE STOP, MANUAL TRANSMISSION VIOLENTLY POPS OUT OF FIRST GEAR. STICK SHIFT LEVER POPS OUT WITH DANGEROUS FORCE AND CAN INJURE HAND OR ARM IF IT IS IN THE PATH OF EJECTED SHIFT LEVER. CONDITION EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN TURNING IN TRAFFIC AND LOSING DRIVE. ALSO CAN CAUSE REAR END COLLISION AS DRIVE LOSS IS IMMEDIATE AND NO BRAKES ARE APPLIED SO NO BRAKE LIGHTS WARN DRIVERS BEHIND THE VEHICLE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
2008 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON. AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. IT COMES ON AND GOES OFF PERIODICALLY. WENT ONLINE TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAD ISSUES AND SAW ALL OTHER RECENT COMPLAINTS ABOUT SAME PROBLEM. *TR
ISSUE WITH FUEL SPILLAGE WHEN FILLING UP THE VEHICLE. APPARENTLY THERE IS FUEL TANK INLET CHECK VALVE THAT HAS AN ISSUE. EVERY TIME I TRY TO FILL THE VEHICLE UP WITH GAS IT OVERFLOWS...THE PUMP CLICKS OFF AS IT SHOULD BUT THERE IS AN OVERFLOW OF GAS THAT COMES OUT OF THE VEHICLE AFTER THE PUMP CLICKS OFF. I'VE HAD TO STOP FILLING MY VEHICLE UP AND GO TO ONLY PUTTING $30 OR SO IN TO KEEP IT FROM OVERFLOWING. THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME UNTIL I HAD SOMEONE ELSE TRY FILING IT UP AND IT DID THE SAME THING. FOUND OUT A FRIEND OF MINE WHO ALSO HAS A JEEP (2 YEARS OLDER THAN MINE) HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND ENDED UP HAVING TO HAVE HIS FUEL TANK REPLACED. *TR
2008 JEEP WRANGLER JK DEATH WOBBLE- NOT RESOLVED (FOR LONG) BY REPLACEMENT OF STEERING STABILIZER. BELIEVE THERE IS A SERIOUS FLAW(S) IN THE OVERALL ENGINEERING AND DESIGN. STEERING BOX IS EXCEPTIONALLY WEAK AND CLUNKS. JEEP IS IGNORING THE PROBLEM, DESPITE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS FROM OWNERS ONLINE, AT DEALERS, AND IN JEEP FORUMS. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED BY THIS ISSUE. HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED ON MY JEEP YET- HAVEN'T EVEN FIGURED OUT WHAT THE ROOT CAUSE IS YET, BUT HAVE SPENT $1000 SO FAR! THINKING ABOUT DITCHING THIS DANGEROUS VEHICLE. *TR
VIOLENT, EXTREME SHAKING IN FRONT END OF VEHICLE ("DEATH WOBBLE") AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 55-60MPH. HAS OCCURRED ABOUT 6 TIMES, BUT IS RANDOM AND INTERMITTENT, WITH NO KNOWN PRECIPITATING FACTORS. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING OVER MINOR BUMPS BUT HAS ALSO OCCURRED MORE FREQUENTLY ON PERFECTLY SMOOTH, STRAIGHT PAVEMENT - WITH NO TURNING, BREAKING, ACCELERATION. THE SHAKING SEEMS TO BE IN THE FRONT TIRES/AXLE AND CONTINUES FOR 3-4 SECONDS AS I AM TRYING TO REDUCE SPEED CAREFULLY AND MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IT FEELS LIKE THE FRONT TIRES ARE GOING TO FLY OFF IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS! AFTER THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, IT DID NOT HAPPEN AGAIN FOR MONTHS, BUT RECENTLY HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. I WAS TOLD BY ONE GARAGE THAT IT WAS DUE TO TIRE BALANCE (WHICH I KNEW WAS NOT THE CASE), BUT I HAD ALL FOUR TIRES BALANCED/ROTATED (AT ABOUT 42,500 MILES). GARAGE PERSONNEL STATED THIS "TOOK CARE OF MOST OF THE PROBLEM" BUT SUGGESTED I GET NEW TIRES. PROBLEM OCCURRED 2 MORE TIMES WITHIN A WEEK, BEFORE NEW TIRES. HAVE HAD ALL FOUR TIRES REPLACED. DEATH WOBBLE HAS NOT RECURRED, BUT I AM ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TIRES/BALANCE AND THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING. IT IS TERRIFYING AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE HURT OR KILLED. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP NEXT WEEK. WHEN I MADE THE APPOINTMENT, THEY CLAIMED THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM, SO I WILL PROVIDE THEM WITH INFORMATION I GATHERED IN ABOUT 20 MINUTES OFF VARIOUS WEB SITES DETAILING THE APTLY-NAMED "DEATH WOBBLE." I AM WELL-ACQUAINTED WITH THE "COULD-NOT-DUPLICATE-THE-PROBLEM" GARAGE MANTRA, SO FORESEE A PROTRACTED AND FRUSTRATING BATTLE BEFORE THIS LIFE-THREATENING PROBLEM IS FIXED. *TR
A BROKEN CLOCKSPRING LED TO AN AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATION AS WELL AS FAILURE IN THE ESP AND BAS SYSTEMS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 70 AT APPROXIMATELY 65MPH, I HIT A BUMP, AND MY JEEP STARTED TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE SO DRAMATICALLY THAT I HAD TO SLOW DOWN TO ABOUT 35MPH BEFORE IT WOULD STOP. I WAS SO FRIGHTENED THAT I PULLED OVER AND WAS AFRAID TO CONTINUE DRIVING. THINKING IT WAS MY TIRES ABOUT READY TO FALL OFF, I CREEPED OFF OF THE INTERSTATE AND DROVE ABOUT 15MPH BACK TO THE TIRE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD BOUGHT MY TIRES. THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. I THEN TOOK IT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE STEERING DAMPNER AND UPDATED A BRACKET. IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY THEN REPLACED THE DRAG LINK END. THEY THEN TOLD ME IT HAD TO BE THE TIRES. THEY, NOT ONE TIME, MENTIONED WHAT I HAVE NOW RESEARCHED AND FOUND TO BE A "DEATH WOBBLE" PROBLEM THAT MANY JEEP OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED AND MY TIRES ONLY HAVE 15K MILES ON THEM AND I AM THINKING THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM. THE WOBBLE THAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED NOW DOZENS OF TIMES IS NOT ONLY FRIGHTENING BUT I FEAR IS VERY DANGEROUS. I'M NOT SURE WHAT MY RECOURSE IS AT THIS POINT. *TT

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE FROM THE ROADWAY AND NOTICED THAT THE STEERING SHAFT WAS DETACHED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING UP AN INCLINE, SMOKE WAS EMITTING FROM THE TRANSMISSION AREA. HE PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF FOR 30 MINUTES. HE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING BUT HE STILL SMELLED SMOKE. A COUPLE DAYS LATER, HE NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 35,844.
CLOCKSPRING WENT OUT ON THIS JEEP AT ABOUT 38,000 MILES AND 69,000 MILES, CAUSING THE AIRBAG LIGHT TO COME ON, RENDERING THE AIRBAGS INOPERABLE. HAD CLOCKSPRING REPLACED BOTH TIMES TO FIX THE PROBLEM. JEEP NOW HAS ABOUT 97,000 MILES ON IT AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON AGAIN. WE HAVE ANOTHER BAD CLOCKSPRING. JEEP HAS HAD A RECALL ON THE CLOCKSPRING FOR PREVIOUS MODELS. SINCE JEEP HAS RECALLED PREVIOUS MODELS FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM, AND JUDGING BY THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE CLOCKSPRING I HAVE READ ON OTHER WEB SITES, YOU WOULD THINK JEEP WOULD DO THE RIGHT THING AND RECALL IT AND FIX IT PROPERLY. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OTHER CARS WITH WELL OVER 100,000 MILES ON THEM AND NEVER HAD A CLOCKSPRING GO OUT BEFORE. I PRESENTLY HAVE TWO SUBARUS EACH WITH ALMOST 300,000 MILES ON THEM WITH NO CLOCKSPRING PROBLEM. JEEP IS SUPPOSED TO BE A RUGGED VEHICLE, BUT SO FAR I HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN IT AND CONSIDER IT NO MORE RUGGED THAN A PLASTIC TOY VERSION. ONCE MY VEHICLE REACHES A SPEED OF 50 MPH, GOES OVER A BUMP, OR AROUND SOME TURNS, IT STARTS TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. THIS SHAKING DOES NOT SUBSIDE UNTIL I STOP THE VEHICLE. IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE AND WORSE TO THE POINT WHERE IT HAPPENS ABOUT EVERY 2 MILES IF I AM GOING 50 MPH. I CAN NOT GO ABOVE 50 MPH WHICH IS QUITE DANGEROUS ON THE FREEWAY BECAUSE THE SPEED LIMITS HERE ARE 65-70 MPH. WHEN I GO OVER A BUMP AND IT STARTS TO HAPPEN, IF THERE IS NO PLACE TO PULL OVER (WHICH HAS HAPPENED) I MUST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP RIGHT WHERE I AM, OR CONTINUE TO DRIVE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY, AND I AM UNABLE TO STEER. I PURCHASED A NEW 2008 JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA EDITION IN APRIL OF 2008. SINCE NOVEMBER OF 2008 I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THE JEEP WHICH ARE WIDELY REPORTED ON THE INTERNET. THE FIRST ISSUE WAS THE TRANSMISSION WOULD POP OUT OF FIRST GEAR WHEN IT WAS COLD OR RAINY. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER BUT THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T GET THE PROBLEM TO REOCCUR. IT TOOK CHRYSLER 1 YEAR BEFORE THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM. SO IN THE SPRING OF 2010 THEY INSTALLED A GEAR REBUILD KIT. MEANWHILE I WAS DRIVING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR. THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS A TEMPORARY FIX AND THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD LIKELY OCCUR AGAIN. SURE ENOUGH JUST SIX MONTHS AGO THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO POP OUT OF FIRST GEAR. NOW I AM BATTLING TO TRY AND GET THE DEALER TO FIX IT AGAIN. THE SECOND ISSUE WHICH JUST OCCURRED LAST WEEK AND EARLIER TODAY IS WHAT THE INTERNET REFERS TO AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE." ONCE I GET ABOVE 55MPH AND I HIT A POT HOLE THE JEEP WOBBLES UNCONTROLLABLY UNTIL I COMPLETELY STOP. ACCORDING TO MOST FORUMS THE DEALERSHIP ALSO GIVES CUSTOMERS A VERY HARD TIME ABOUT FIXING THIS ISSUE AS WELL. I WILL ATTEMPT TO CONTACT THE DEALER TOMORROW ABOUT THE DEATH WOBBLE. THIS JEEP WRANGLER 07-10 HAS SOME SERIOUS ISSUES WHICH NEED TO BE ADDRESS IMMEDIATELY. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO ISSUE RECALLS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT.
