Open the full vehicle complaint log (all categories)On June 22, 2025, I parked my Jeep in a parking space in a hotel parking lot. I opened the rear tailgate to retrieve items and when I closed the tailgate, the spare tire fell off as a result of the the spare tire carrier failing and ripping in half. Half of the carrier is still bolted to the Jeep and the other half to the spare tire. There was no warning of impending failure. If this had occurred 10 minutes earlier while I was on the freeway, it could have injured or killed someone. There is nothing in the Jeep owner's manual about maintenance or how to prevent this from happening. Jeep's response was that it is no longer under warranty, but I feel this is a product defect issue. (see photos)
