NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2024 Jeep Wrangler. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Driving down the road with vehicles on opposite side and vehicle shut off with no warnings and had no steering. Had to turn vehicle on and off 3-4 times to get back to home. Had to get vehicle towed to dealership and now has 3 recalls on it and two have no remedy. It has been since October of 2025 since this has been going on with no fix, no solution, no reimbursement for payments still being made on a vehicle that is not drivable.
Jeep Wrangler 4-door Rubicon 4XE stalled/suffered complete loss of power while driving down the road. It took 3 shutdown/restarts to move the vehicle to a safe location. Since then, Jeep has issued 3 URGENT unrepaired recalls. Oct 17: NHTSA 25V-710 (drive train/loss of power - remedy not yet available), Oct 30: 25V-741 (flawed battery pack that may cause vehicle fire putting life and property at risk - remedy not yet available), and Nov 6: 25V-766 (engine potentially contaminated by sand casting potentially resulting in engine failure or unexpected loss of propulsion - remedy not available) As such, I have been deprived of a safe/reliable vehicle for 2 months.
While driving, the vehicle lost complete power and there was no way to control movement. This event has occurred three times. Two of the events were while manuvering into parking, the third was while moving at speed approximately 40-50mph. There has been no warning lamp or warning of any kind before the occurance. This problem seems to be in relation to the A7C recall that currently has no remedy.
Software update caused my Jeep to go into automatic engine shutdown while driving on a busy street. The D started to flash and screen said to put in park then Jeep glitched and jerked and I had to stop. This happened multiple times while I attempted to safely get home. Check engine light came on. I made it home. Waited a few hours. Turned Jeep off and on. Waited another half hour. Tried again multiple times throughout night then light happened to go off.
After installing an OTA update . The vehicle kept stalling while i was driving it .it stalled 3 times in less than half a mile .completely stops midway all lights on dashboard start flashing asking to be put on park then start . This is extremely dangerous while driving especially on freeways. I almost got rearended at least 3 times when this happened. My safety and the safety of everyone on the road that day was risked
It updated the software then after that while I was driving the car suddenly died. Lost power. Almost got hit from behind but I was lucky to be able to get on the shoulder.
The car installed an upgrade over the air, in the background, and while driving it shut down. It flashes the screens and shut down while in drive on a busy road. Steering wheel locked and had to turn on and off aeveral times just to move slowly to the side away from oncoming vehicles. After looking online, found article about this issue across the country in the models, and tried the reset instructions. Eventually was able to keep it on and drive slowly to the dealer about 25miles away. They've had it since yesterday saying they reaching out to engineering unable to figure out how to fix.
Jeep wanted to do an OTA update through the connect service. I continued to select 'update later' for several days then it all of a sudden my uconnect service told me it was updating. Immediately after it was updated, while on the road, the screened flashed off then back on just like it does at start up wanting me to start the vehicle. At this point we were at a stoplight and wasn't actively moving at this time. It was already running, and when the button was pressed, it turned, off, then pressed again and turned back on and restarted with on with CEL. I was only a mile from my local dealership, so I proceeded to go there.
I have been dissecting and putting off the update of the Uconnect software that has recently been known to brick vehicles for about five days now when I was stopped at a light, the car push through the update andand auto updated without my selecting to do so. This caused the car to turn to a message saying to put it in park and press start in order to drive and turned on the check engine light. Luckily this is a long light, but I had to restart the vehicle in order to get it moving dirt before the traffic started to flow.
Jeep 4xe complete loss of power while driving almost caused a huge accident. No power, no power steering TOTALLY dangerous and they knew damn well this would happen but didn't alert customers!!!
Jeep pushed out an update on Friday 10/10 that we were advised to decline as it was causing mechanical failures. Despite declining the update ever since, and being assured that this remedy would work until the update expired in 30 days, apparently it still managed to push through on its own last night. I was less than two miles from my house this morning on my way to an appointment when the dashboard lit up and the Jeep completely lost power. I shut it off, turned it back on and was able to get back home, but the CEL is still on. I was lucky enough to be on a side road, as I was about to enter a busy intersection. I've talked to Jeep and they do not have a fix, but it is unsafe to drive at this point. I am waiting on a towing company at the moment to bring it to a Jeep dealership.
DRIVING DOWN ROAD, APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH THE JEEP ABRUPTLY STOPPED, NOTHING NO POWER TO ANY PART OF THE VEHICLE , LOSS OF DRIVE POWER. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME FOR SURE I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT IN THE REAR, I AM SO AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE , AS THIS HAS HAPPENED ON TWO OCCASIONS LATE SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER 14 2025. ALREADY. THE DEALER CONFIRMED IT AS I SENT A PICTURE OF THE DASH BOARD THAT WAS TAKEN THE SECOND INCIDENT , WITH ALL THE THINGS THAT LIT UP. NO NOT ONE TIME WAS THERE ANY WARNING, MESSAGES OR LIGHTS PRIOR TO INCIDENT. I CONTACTED DEAERSHIP TO MAKE APT WAS TOLD "DONT BRING IT IN" THERE IS NO REMEDY, "ICAN GIVE YOU THE 800 NUMBER FOR CHRYSLER/JEEP" EARLY NOVEMBER I GOT RECALL NOTICE FOR THE BATTERY THAT COULD "GO ON FIRE" OR "BLOW UP" - I CALLED AND THE DEALER GAVE ME AN APPOINTMENT FOR 1/20/26 - 3 MONTHS??? IASKED IF THEY CAN ALSO ADDRESS THE 2ND RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM THAT HAS OCCURRED 2 TIMES OUT OF NOWHERE WAS TOLD WE WILL GO OVER THIS WHEN YOU COME IN. I REQUESTED A LOANER CAR THATS WHY THEY MADE MY APT 3 MONTHS AWAY, THEY CLAIM DIDNT HAVE A LOANER UNTIL THEN. WENT ON 1/20/26 THE TECH CALLED ME TWICE ONCE TO TELL ME THERE IS NO REMEDY TO FIX AC7 PROBLEM AND THEY WILL SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT "BATTERY ISSUE RECALL, CALLED AGAIN ASKING RIDICULOUS QUESTIONS LIKE HOW ARE YOU CHARGING THE VEHICLE, ARE YOU USING AN AFTER MARKET CHARGER, AS IF YOU DIDNT LEASE ME THIS VEHICHLE WITH THE CHARGE... I FELT LIKE THEY WHERE TRYING TO SAY ANY ISSUE WAS MY FAULT. I SENT THE TECH A TEXT TO LET HIM KNOW THAT I REALLY AM NOT COMFORTABLE PICKING UP THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE NO REMEDY FOR THE ISSUE AND CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. HE SAID "YOU SHOULD BE ALRIGHT" "YOU SHOULD BE OK TO DRIVE", I TOLD HIM THAT I WASN'T REASSURED THAT I "SHOULD" BE OK??? i SAID I WANTED TO DISCUSS GETTING A LOANER OR REPLACEMENT VEHICLE, HE SAID THAT WAS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN & IF i DIDNT PICK THE VEHICLE I WOULD BE CHARGED $50/DAY FOR LOANER.
Year: 2024 Make & Model: Jeep Wrangler 4-door 4xe Body Style: Sahara 4x4 VIN: [XXX] On October 14, 2025, I began to drive my car home. After the use of the brakes, while I was pulling out of a large parking lot, the car functionally went into neutral, the “D” on PRNDL display began to blink. The brakes worked. I pulled over, put the car into Park and then into Drive again. Still, no change. I turned the car on and off and put it into Drive and the car began to drive normally, until I reached a stop light, exiting the parking lot. Then, the same thing occurred. The “D” began blinking and the car was unresponsive to the accelerator. I turned off and re-started the car. Again, it drove fine. The “D” was lit, but didn’t blink. I was driving very slowly and then went down a hill. As soon as I tapped the brakes, the same thing occurred again. I was only 6 miles or less from the dealership. So, after re-starting the car for the 3rd or 4th time, I learned that using the parking brake did not disrupt the car and the accelerator continued to work. I drove to the dealership’s service department and used the parking brake when I needed to slow down. Today is 10/18/2025. I received a call back on 10/16 and none since. Today, I drove out to the service department and talked directly to a manager, who was vague on the car’s status. After an OTA update, while driving, the vehicle abruptly stopped working and I was forced to pull over. The check engine light went on and a message requesting service to the electric charging module was shown. After cycling power a few times the car worked again. This happened again on the way home. The manufacturer JeepCares account advised that the car needs to be towed to a dealer immediately.
Driving down the road, Jeep suddenly says shift to park and loses all power stalling in the middle the road. This happened twice on October 14, 2025 and needed a tow truck to be brought to a dealership. When it loses power everything locks up including steering so you can even pull over safely to the side of the road. This is a very serious issue that can easily cause a deadly accident and needs to be addressed.
While driving on the road the vehicle suddenly loses power and shuts down. The check engine light illuminates and a message saying shift to park appears on the dashboard. You have no control of speed at this point. The vehicle stops and stalls in the middle of the road. Once you shift to park you have to completely shut off the vehicle while in the middle of the road and restart the engine. The vehicle will drive a few hundred feet and repeat the stall. It is completely scary and dangerous.
Vehicle shutdown. Loss of motive power after updated software from Uconnect. Check engine light pop up and unable to drive
Car flashed “Shift to Park”, stalled in an intersection and now check engine light is on. This is related to Jeep’s ridiculous and unacceptable software issue. Despite a “fix” being allegedly issued by Jeep, this issue still happened today November 14th despite me never accepting their flawed software update. This is an ALARMING safety issue.
Complete loss of power in vehicle after an update.
The jeep die while I was driving on CR530. Check engine light came on and stuff flashed I quickly pulled over rto the shoulder. After ten minutes I was able to drive it into a dunkin donut shop but it turned off three times risking my life each time. I had my hazard lights on but people dont care. Called dealership and waited for the jeep to be towed
After a UConnect software update was performed the vehicle shutdown. Upon starting the vehicle the check engine light came on with several other dashboard lights and after driving the car for a few seconds the engine would shut down and would say to park and turn off vehicle. After a couple restarts and experiencing the same shutdown two more times I was able to drive in e-save but felt the vehicle was in limp mode and the engine light still remained illuminated. Called the Jeep dealership and explained the problem and the first thing they asked was did you just do a software update. I said yes and he said that’s the problem that they just had 35 Jeep Wrangler 4xe’s towed to their dealership yesterday. He said that Jeep does not have a fix for the issue as of yet. It throws a fault code P1E1D. So seems that the recent Uconnect software update is rendering all Jeep Wrangler 4xe’s useless.
While I was en route to get a recall serviced my Vehicle powered off while I was driving, at a speed of 25mph, out of my neighborhood. The Dashboard instructed me to put the vehicle in park (P), press the brake and the start button to power on the engine. The check engine light remained on and the vehicle started driving real sluggish. I couldn’t get above 10mph. I pulled into a parking lot and sat called the Jeep service department where I was going to have it serviced. I informed them of the issue so they could look at it, if I made it to them. The warnings for the check engine light said service stability controls. I proceeded to drive very slowly with my hazards on and still on 10mph very ruggedly; then all of a sudden the vehicle started to pick up speed and the check engine light went off. I was able to get on the highway and safely make it to the Jeep service center where they checked my vehicle but could not find a problem.
Car stopped dead as I merged into a major highway and said hybrid battery issue and requested to be moved into park. I turned off the car and on and put it in esave mode to move it - very dangerous
On October 13, 2025, I experienced three separate incidents involving my Jeep Wrangler 4xe while driving in Hybrid Mode at approximately 35 mph. First incident: Around 5:10 PM, the vehicle suddenly lost speed, stalled erratically, and displayed the message “Shift to D to Drive” on the screen while the “D” on the gear selector was flashing. The check engine light also came on. I was able to safely pull over and restart the vehicle. Second incident: Around 5:13 PM, less than a mile later, the same issue occurred again while the check engine light remained on. I again pulled over and restarted the vehicle. Third incident: Around 5:20 PM, the same problem repeated for a third time. After the third occurrence, I called the dealership where I purchased the vehicle to report the issue. The service department representative immediately recognized the problem and informed me that 13–14 vehicles had already come in that same day with the same issue. Because I was only about 3 miles away, I drove carefully at low speed with my hazard lights on and dropped off the vehicle at the dealership. At the service center, the staff member stated that it might be an electrical issue possibly related to a recent Uconnect+ software update. However, I had not received any prior information, warnings, or recall alerts regarding this issue — neither through the Jeep app nor by email. I am especially concerned that the dealership was aware of multiple vehicles with the same issue yet provided no notification to affected owners. I later discovered that other Jeep Wrangler 4xe owners have reported the exact same issue — the dash blinking “D” while driving, sudden loss of motive power, and the message “Shift to D to Drive” appearing even though the vehicle was already in drive. These reports match my experience precisely, indicating that this is not an isolated problem. This is an extremely serious safety issue. The vehicle’s loss of motive power while driving unexpectedly puts drivers and
After an OTA firmware update, I started driving as normal for a couple of blocks, I stopped to pick up my wife who was walking. She got into the car, loses the door as I began to accelerate the car suddenly stopped, the engine quit immediately. I put the transmission back in Park I was able to restart and proceed to my destination a short distance away. The Check Engine Light was illuminated. After an hour stop I started the vehicle to return home it drove normal and the CEL cleared itself. My concern is that this could happen again and could be catastrophic at highway speeds.
In the middle of driving, with the new update alert of Uconnect Box (I wasn't updating the Uconnect), the car suddenly stops in the middle of the road and told me to shift to P (Parking) to Start while I am on D (Driving Mode), then, lost power and stopped. After turned it all the way off and back on, the CEL came on. The car would drive, proceeded on and within a few minutes, it did it again. Loss of power and it is telling me to shift to P and press Power to Start.
Engine died while driving
While driving, all of the lights started flashing and was told to shift into park right away and the car stopped and turned off
The jeep lost power after only driving abojt a mile down the road. all the lights came on the dash and I had to pull over until it came to a slow stop, the brakes didn’t seem like they working. Once in park I got a dash light that said Service Charging System. I was not able to move it out of park to even neutral. After about 15 minutes I was able to get it to start and drove it home about 1 mile- it did the same thing. When it restarted the check engine light is on.
After the update it did, it will only drive like 20 feet. We lost acceleration and power in the middle of a busy road numerous times. Had to restart the vehicle every time. Severe safety issue, we had to coast into an intersection through a red light because we couldn’t stop because the engine kept stalling.
The Jeep turns off at random times that I have to coast to a stop, put it in park, and then try and restart it again. That’s dangerous going down a highway and the Jeep to completely lose power and shut off or going through an intersection and having the Jeep shut off.
Vehicle lost acceleration and power while driving on my way to work. I was able to restart the Jeep and get it off the road. I was able to pull the OBD codes from the Jeep; P1E1D. I then remembered the last time I drove the Jeep, it prompted for a uconnect update (OTA). This morning was the first time driving it since that update.
This morning my 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe check engine light came on and had a loss of power. I had to pull over onto a highway to restart the vehicle. The dealership stated that there was an over the air update that was faulty and that they had no way to fix it, but they stated to bring it into the dealership service department even though vehicle is currently not drivable or unsafe to operate.
entire vehicle shuts down, without warning. was driving down road all of sudden the truck shut off no not engine, electrical, stearing etc. Was confirmed at dealer. no not until after it shut down did a waning appear.

On October 12, 2025, while I was driving, the vehicle abruptly shut off, locked up, and completely stalled while in motion. This created an immediate and serious hazard to my safety and to other drivers on the road. I contacted Jeep to report the incident, but I was informed that no service appointments were available for several weeks. I was also told that Jeep currently does not have a repair or remedy for this issue. At present, Jeep has acknowledged a safety defect, has no available solution, and cannot perform a timely repair. The vehicle is unsafe to operate and cannot be used for its intended purpose. I rely on reliable transportation for my personal and professional obligations and cannot be without a safe vehicle for an extended period while Jeep attempts to resolve a known safety problem. Given that Jeep is unable to repair the defect and is effectively in breach of its warranty obligations, I am requesting that Stellantis Financial Services immediately terminate my lease without any early termination fees, penalties, or additional charges. I must obtain a dependable vehicle from a manufacturer that can provide safe and operable transportation.
There are 2 open safety recalls on this vehicle. One for stopping which it already did and one for fire. My vehicle stopped and lost all power while going 35 mph. I am not safe in this vehicle and want my lease voided.
Jeep 4xe Wrangler engine shut off while driving. Error we assumed on our part while coming to a stop. Turned the Jeep off and restarted it and again, car engine stopped. Tried for a 3rd time, car engine was running, gas pedal to the floor but the car would not move. We had to drive in reverse back to our house. Luckily, it was close. Called Corporate, they have been zero help. Will not return our phone calls. We have no car to use and no answers.
Driving on our way to a JEEP INVASION (local). We had our 3 children in the back seat. The jeep was traveling about 45 mph and the accelerator stopped working. Thankfully we were not on a freeway and no one was behind us. We had to pull over and turn the jeep off and then back on. It happened 3 times on the way there. We took it into the local dealership and they ran a test on it. We were told it happened because of the UConnect update performed over the weekend. We are currently trying to get out of our lease. We only have 16k miles on it and have taken it into the dealership 5+ times due to issues similar to this. But we have never had to worry about our safety the previous times. It has become a driving risk for us and we do not feel comfortable taking our children in it anymore. I feel like the vehicle shutting down felt the same as the brake system not working while we were driving. We had the 4xe battery replaced in the past year because we were left stranded in a parking lot because the vehicle would not turn on.
Completed OTA update previous day. Driving the next day 1 mile into the drive the check engine light, went off, a warning on the dash said something about electrical stability system failure, showed a picture of the jeep with red electrical highlighted. The car ran very poorly, could not accelerate and the car slowed from 35 to 15. During this time the car flashed instructions to put the car in park. After about 1/2 mile I slowed to stop and put the Jeep in park. Restarted by pushing holding brake and pushing start button. Ran well for 10 + miles, then same thing happend again. The Jeep flashed engine warning light, dings and lights flashing. Had to into the left turn lane and came to stop at the stop light. Put the Jeep in park again, tried to restart but this time it did not restart. The gear stuck in Park with the P flashing on the indicator. Had to pull the emergency release cord to put Jeep into N to push to a safe location. Jeep failed to start or move from P and is at the shop now.
Friday, 10/10/25- And over the air update loaded via the radio. Online chatter had rumors of full loss of propulsion after the update, recommendation was to cancel the update to prevent failure. I cancelled the update multiple times. On Sunday afternoon, [XXX]- Uconnect software update ran anyway. Within 30 seconds of completion, the vehicle loss power on the highway, FULL motor/engine shut down on a busy highway. Warning lights and sounds galore, including "shift to park, service transmission." Pulled over, did a full key cycle/restart, vehicle had numerous dashboard warning lights on. Limped vehicle toward home. Would run for 30 seconds, then shut down again. Had to repeat this cycle 5 times to get home 1 mile. Absolutely no guidance from jeep, except for a few posts on social media pages. There was another software update that when through, and the vehicle seems to be working better now, but we do not trust it. Losing motive power on the highway with my wife and [XXX] child is a MAJOR safety issue, which could lead to injury or death. Demanding full investigation to the issue, and a discontinuation of forced OTA updates. Recall. Now! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Jeep over the air update caused my car to shut off completely in the middle of an intersection. I had to come to a complete and violent stop and restart the car. This happened three more times trying to get home - with kids in the car - though thankfully subsequent times were kess precarious because I took side streets and was careful.
As I was driving I lost all power to the vehicle as well as the steering wheel locked. I was able to pull to the side of the road but the back end of my car was hanging out into traffic. The car flashed a message reading to shift into Park which once I did I was able to turn the car off and back on again but the check engine light as well as a symbol of a tool remained up. Upon further investigation I now understood this was all due to an update on the UConnect screen system that was pushed out a day prior and many others had the same effect of their Jeeps completely turning off mid driving. This was extremely dangerous and terrifying as I had zero control over the car. Keeping lucky I am still alive! I do not feel comfortable continuing to drive this vehicle. Furthermore, the dealership nor the 1800 number for Jeep are willing or able to get my a loaner car nor assist with reimbursements for a rental car. They have no answer as to a repair for this faulty update. I am very disappointed in this entire scenario
While driving on the freeway, the vehicle shut off, many lights came on including the D blinking. It instructed me to place in P to turn on.
The incident happened between October 10 and 13, 2025. Updating the Jeep Uconnect and software. It was a long weekend for me, so I decided to take my family, my wife, and two kids to the sand dunes at Pismo Beach. Luckily, I tried to avoid updating on Friday night because of a Facebook post from other Jeep Wrangler owners from 2024. A long weekend of supposed fun and activities turned into a nightmare Sunday afternoon when it updated over the air through Uconnect. Every 7 to 10 minutes of driving, the Jeep began to stall. It's okay now that it's October 13, 2025, Monday, but a long weekend of fun turned into a scary and nerve-racking situation, so I had to use another car to move on and do errands.
I was driving the jeep in my neighborhood when the dashboard flickered and it told me to put the vehicle in park and press the "start" button (same message it would give when you get in the car and get ready to start it, except it was already running and I was driving). Vehicle seemed to lose some power assist features like steering. I wasn't going fast, so it was hard to tell exactly what switched off, but the brakes felt stiff as well. I was able to stop the Jeep, turned it off, and then back on... which *seemed* to resolve the issue but then I had a check engine light on. I have a small diagnostic tool so I plugged it in and it give me 3 codes about control modules experiencing an "improper wake up" (whatever that means). Thankful I was not on the interstate at highway speeds or it could have been very dangerous.
The car updated with the latest uConnect on Friday night. The next morning car drove fine for about .5 miles, the drive gear selector on the screen started to flash with no power to the car. The car had stopped accelerating in heavy traffic with no where to pull over on the side of the road. Performed same issues 3 times, after the third time the car went into limp mode. Had to be towed to dealer, it is currently in service on limp mode with no next steps
I performed a software update on my 2024 Jeep Wrangler as prompted by the Uconnect system. Immediately after performing that update the next time I turned the car on the engine completely shut off, and the dashboard blinked shift to park and then drive. The engine continued intermittently, completely shutting off while driving. It became clear after an online search that this was a common issue happening to Jeep Wrangler users who had performed this software update. This was terrifying. Supposedly there is a fix in the form of a new software update, being pushed out, but I have not been able to power cycle. The vehicle into performing that software update to fix the car.
Vehicle completely lost power while driving nearly resulting in an accident. Engine cut off and loss of power occured including power steering. Vehicle stated to put car in park while Vehicle was still in motion. Vehicle restarted but then the same thing happened. This occured 4 more times. I was able to make it to the dealership near by. I had young children in the car at the time.
While driving in town, this vehicle lost power 3 times in 2 blocks. I had to put it in park and restart it each time. It resembles the problem reported as being recalled on 2021-2023 Wranglers, this one is a 2024. I drive on the highway an hour to and from work and am very concerned this could cause a major accident resulting in injury and/or death.
