CHECK ENGINE LITE KEEPS COMING ON WHEN DRIVING. TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD MY IT WAS A RECALL ISSUE, WHY SHOULD I PAY HIM IF KIA HAS A RECALL. I CALLED MY LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WOULD COST 70.00 JUST TO BRING IT IN. *TR
I DROVE MY CAR TO WORK GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND LOOK. I SAY I AM PARK BAD SO I GOT BACK IN MY CAR TO PARK BETTER. I PUT THE KEY IN AND TRY TO TURN THE KEY BUT I COULDN'T TURN KEY MY WHEEL WAS LOCK WHEN I TRY TO PUSH MY BRAKE DOWN IT WOULDN'T GO DOWN. SUPPOSED I WAS ON THE ROAD WHEN THAT HAPPEN. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE ENGINE RACED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SPEED UP AND WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. *TR
THE ANTENNA FIN SCREWS SHEERED OFF AND PLASTIC SCREW HOLDER BROKE INTO PIECES CAUSING THE FIN TO COME LOOSE AND FALL OFF, EXPOSING ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. THERE WAS NO PRIOR INTERFERENCE WITH THE FIN, I OBSERVED THE FIN SLIGHTLY LIFTED ON THE FRONT END AND IT PULLED RIGHT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PARKED POSITION AFTER JUST DRIVING IT 5 MINUTES. THERE IS NO EASY WAY OF FIXING THIS ISSUE, RAIN DAMAGE MAY OCCUR CAUSING ISSUES WITH RADIO AND OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED OF THE SAME THING HAPPENING TO THEIR KIA OPTIMA ANTENNA FINS.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 65 MPH AND AN ALERT POPS UP. IT SAID "POSSIBLE BMS CONDITION." I IMMEDIATELY PULLED TO THE SIDE, BUT ALSO NOTICED MY CAR SPEED REDUCING. I SAFELY GOT INTO THE RIGHT SHOULDER AND THEN THE CAR STEERING WHEEL FROZE UP. ANOTHER ALERT TO CHECK BRAKES WENT ON. I PUSHED THE BRAKES OVER AND OVER TO GET THE ALERT OFF. IT THEN OVER A TIME SPAN OF 3-5 MIN STARTED TO SLOWLY RUN LOW ON ELECTRICITY BECAUSE THE HAZARDS LIGHTS WERE BLINKING SLOWER. I GOT IT TOWED AND WAITING TO SEE WHAT IS THE PROBLEM. BEEN LOOKING IT UP AND MOST LIKELY IT'S THE FUSE IN THE BACK TRUNK UNDER THE COVER UNDERNEATH. *TR
I HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE KIA DEALER IN ORANGE COUNTY, AND THEY CHARGED ME EXTRA TO RESOLVE THE RECALL, AND THE VEHICLE'S AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM IS NO LONGER WORKING, THE GAS INTAKE IS RIDICULOUS, AND THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME POWER AS IT USED TO.

BERWYN KIA (7050 OGDEN AVE, BERWYN, IL 60402) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
DRIVING DOWN IN MOTION ON A VILLAGE ROAD GOING 40 MPH, CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF, LOST POWER STEERING, I HAD TO PULL CAR OVER WITHOUT POWER STEERING TO SIDE OF BUSY ROAD, CAR WOULD NOT STOP RIGHT AWAY AND PARK WOULD NOT ENGAGED RIGHT AWAY INTO PARK, CAR THEN ROLLED FORWARD ABOUT 10 FEET AND SLAMMED INTO PARK. CAR WOULD NOT TURN OVER HOWEVER ALL POWER LIGHTS, AND BATTERY WERE WORKING WITHOUT ISSUE. CALLED A TOW TRUCK, COULD NOT GET AHOLD OF KIA FOR KIA 24 HOUR EMERGENCY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, DUE TO COVID-19, I HAD TO CALL A LOCAL BODY SHOP/USED CAR DEALER FOR A TOW.
TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP TO FIX AIR CONDITIONING ISSUE. WHEN THEY WENT TO RUN IT THROUGH THEIR CAR WASH, THE TECHNICIAN SAID HE WOULD NOT DO IT DUE TO THE SHARK FIN ANTENNA BEING LOOSE. WHEN I GOT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD, I SHOOK THE SHARK FIN LIGHTLY AND IT CAME OFF IN MY HAND. ALL OF THE SCREWS HAD BROKEN THE PLASTIC OFF THE SHARK FIN. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM. THE COST TO FIX IS OVER $500. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW WITH SUCH A WEAK DESIGN. LUCKILY THIS WAS CAUGHT AT THE DEALERSHIP AND DID NOT COME OFF WHILE DRIVING.
DRIVING ON CITY STREET CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE. ENGINE SEIZED. *TR
THIS HAPPENS WHILE I AM DRIVING OR WHEN I COME TO A STOP. THE CAR APPEARS TO STALL AND THEN THE GEAR INDICATOR LIGHTS IN MY CONSOLE AREA GO OUT AND THE LIGHT INDICATOR IN THE DASHBOARD GOES OUT AND THEREFORE YOU CANNOT SEE WHICH GEAR YOU IN. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE KIA DEALER THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG AND THAT IT APPEARED TO FIX ITSELF. IT APPEARED TO CLEAR UP BUT SINCE HAS STARTED BACK . *TR

I RECENTLY HAD MY CAR REPAIRED FOR THE TURBO FUEL LINE WHICH WAS A RECALL AND SNAPPED IN MY. THIS WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER EVER SINCE THAT NOW MY TURBO IS NOT WORKING AND I HAVE VERY LITTLE PICKUP WHEN I ACCELERATE. ALSO MY SEATBELT LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON STATING THAT MY SEATBELT IS NOT CONNECTED WHEN IT IS. AND THIS PROBLEM WILL RECOVER FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND HAPPEN AGAIN IN A FEW DAYS
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON AND OFF AND WHEN I WENT TO GO GET IT CHECKED, IT CAME UP AND TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR CIRCUIT (PNRDL) INPUT. WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN PARK, I CAN'T TAKE IT OUT UNTIL I TURN MY CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON. MY CAR HAS A LITTLE OVER 87,000 MILES AND SHOULD NOT HAVE TRANSMISSION/ENGINE ISSUES.
I WAS DRIVING HOME WITH MY CHILD IN THE CAR APPROXIMATELY AT 67 MPH ON FREEWAY 99 NORTH FROM LA TO BAKERSFIELD CA AND ALL OF A SUDDEN CAR STALLED. I WAS ON THE FAST LANE AND REACTED IMMEDIATELY TURNED MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON BUT CARS BEHIND ME WERE SO SHORT INTO REAR ENDING ME I CRIED BECAUSE I WAS JUST SHOCKED AND SCARED FOR MY SON. LUCKILY MY AUNT WAS TWO CARS BEHIND ME SINCE WE HAD TOOK A SHORT FAMILY TRIP AND THEY HELPED ME OUT. I HAD JUST TOOK MY CAR FOR AN OIL CHANGE TO KIA HADDAD OF BAKERSFIELD WHERE THEY ALSO FIXED A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME ENGINE FAILURE HAPPENS TO THIS CAR. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN JUNE OF 2017 THAT'S WHAT KIA TOLD ME THAT'S WHY THEY COULDN'T REPLACE THE BECAUSE THEY HAD ALREADY REPLACED IT AND WAS OUT OF WARRANTY THE SECOND WHEN IT HAPPENED TO ME IN 2018. SAME THING HAPPENED CAR STALLED WITH MY SON WITH ME. MECHANIC SAID I NEEDED A ENGINE WHICH HE ENDED UP REPLACING I PAYED FOR THAT. NOW THIS HAPPENS AGAIN FOR THE THIRD TIME ? I'M JUST SO OVERWHELMED I'VE BEEN SO LUCKY I HAVEN'T CAUSED NO ACCIDENT. NOW I'M SCARED TO EVEN FIX THIS CAR AGAIN AND DRIVE IT.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BILLION AUTO - KIA OF IOWA CITY (2845 MORMON TREK BLVD, IOWA CITY, IA 52246) TO BE REPAIRED UNDER AN UNKNOWN RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE CONTACT NOTICED BY THE SERVICE STICKER PLACED ON THE WINDOW THAT THE WRONG TYPE OF OIL WAS PLACED IN THE VEHICLE. AFTER CONTACTING THE SAME DEALER, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THEY USED THAT TYPE OF OIL DUE TO THE RECALL UPDATE. AS THE CONTACT STARTED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTING TO FLASH. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY INITIALLY INFORMED HIM THAT THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS. AS THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK FOR A SECOND TIME AND THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AN ENGINE MISFIRE. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT THEN STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE LOSS MOTIVE POWER AND HIT AN UNKNOWN OBJECT ON THE ROAD WHICH CAUSED A BLOWOUT OF THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE NEXT DAY WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED, THE CONTACT BECAME AWARE THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS LOOSE AND ADDITIONALLY, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL WAS VERY LOW DESPITE HAVING A RECENT OIL CHANGE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS THEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE THE MATTER. AFTER NOT HEARING FROM THE MANUFACTURER, THE CONTACT CALLED BACK AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNSUCCESSFUL IN REACHING THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 158,000. THE VIN WAS INVALID.
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE FROM LAS VEGAS TO CALIFORNIA ON THE I15 SOUTH, WHEN OUT OF NOWHERE IT FELT LIKE THE VEHICLE STAULED OUT AND STARTED HICCUPING AND STARTED LOOSING POWER VERY QUICKLY SO I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF ROAD AND THE CAR DIED. I SAT THERE IN DISBELIEF, LIKE WHAT JUST HAPPENED...THEN I STARTED IT BACK UP AND IT STARTED NO PROBLEM BUT WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE IT STARTED HICCUPING AGAIN AND WHAT FELT LIKE MY ENGINE WAS BEING CHOKED OUT AND IT WASNT ACCELERATING AND THERE WASN'T ANY POWER. IM JUST GLAD THAT I DIDNT LOOSE CONTROL OR HAVE AN ACCIDENT FROM THIS MYSTERIOUS INCIDENT. ALTHOUGH THIS INCIDENT HAS ALREADY LOST ME A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF MY WORK. THE 2 JOBS I WORK ARE BOTH TRANSPORTATION ORIENTATED.
TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC BECAUSE ENGINE WAS SMOKING AND SPUTTERING. HE SAID THERES A RECALL AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD REPLACE ENGINE. THE DEALERSHIP IS SAYJNG THE ENGINE ISSUES ARE FROM SLUDGE AND CHANGED MY OIL. I BELIEVE THEY DIDNT DO THIS RECALL CORRECTLY SC147
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, MY KIA OPTIMA STOPPED ACCELERATING, WE WERE LUCKILY NEAR AN EXIT AND WERE ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE LIGHTS AND MUSIC STAYED ON BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT START AGAIN. THERE WAS NOTHING HAPPENING UP TO THE POINT THAT WOULD HAVE WARNED US THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. I HAD TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED HOME.
CAR WAS WORKING FINE AND WE GOT TO A LIGHT AND IT JUST STOPPED.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly shut off without warning. The contact indicated that on several occasions, it was discovered that the engine oil level was extremely low although oil had recently been added to the engine. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 150,000.
Paint started peeling/flaking on passenger and driver pillars. Trunk paint is now peeling and sure the rest will peel over time
Pearl White Paint is peeling off the car in multiple locations. Several areas are beginning to rust and damage the body The problem is well known online through multiple Kia/Sorrento Owners. We've taken the vehicle to several car painting companies who confirmed the defect. The problem began about 2020.
ON 12/27/19 WHILE TRAVELLING FROM PA TO FL ON THE HIGHWAY FOR A FAMILY VACATION, TRAVELLING ABOUT 75 MPH AT 5:00AM IN COLUMBIA, SC THE DASH DISPLAY READ CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM, AND SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN. ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING, STEERING WHEEL BEGAN STIFFENING, I COASTED FROM THE PASSING LANE TO THE RIGHT LANE AND THEN TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT INCIDENT AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PARK THE CAR. KIA FAILED TO PROVIDE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE SINCE THE CAR HAS OVER 60,000 MILES(ACTUALLY HAS 121,398 MILES APPROX). THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE JTS KIA DEALERSHIP VIA MY INSURANCE COVERAGE IN COLUMBIA, SC. AFTER THE ASSESSMENT I WAS TOLD I HAD A BLOWN MAIN HYBRID FUSE WHICH CAUSED THE BATTERY AND THE RELAY ASSEMBLY TO FAIL. CHARGED $1756.89 TO REPLACE THE FUSE, BATTERY, AND RELAY ASSEMBLY. I PRESENT THIS AS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE HAD I BEEN ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WITH MY FAMILY IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC, THERE WOULD BE NO WAY POSSIBLE TO REACH A LANE SHOULDER WITHOUT POSSIBLE HARM OR DEATH. ACCORDING TO KIA'S OWN "TECHNICAL OPERATIONS NOTICE - PS515(REV 2, 02/28/2019" DATED AUGUST 2017), THEY ARE FULLY AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. THE BATTERY FUSE IS TO BE REPLACED FROM A 125 AMP TO A 150 AMP. THIS FUSE IS PART OF THE SAFETY PLUG LOCATED IN THE TRUNK. AS A OWNER I SHOULD HAVE BEEN WARNED OF THIS POSSIBLY HAPPENING TO THE CAR AND GIVEN THE OPTION TO HAVE THIS FUSE REPLACED....AT KIA'S EXPENSE. FOR THOSE STILL DRIVING THIS YEAR AND MAKE OPTIMA HYBRID, PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS OCCURRENCE. THE 125 AMP HV BATTERY FUSE SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH THE NEWER 150 AMP HV BATTERY FUSE(PART #375F2 4R150. SEE KIA'S PITSTOP: TECHNICAL OPERATIONS NOTICE #PS515. UNFORTUNATELY MY COMMUNICATION WITH KIA PROVED FRUITLESS.
80,000 MILES ON VEHICLE AND ENGINE FAILED. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY. LIGHTS IN THE DASHBOARD APPEARED. VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY AAA AND DETERMINED ENGINE FAILED.
I HAVE A 2014 KIA OPTIMA THAT I PURCHASED 3 YEARS AGO. MY CAR LOST ALL POWER ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE MOTOR IS MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE I'VE TAKEN IT TO MY KIA DEALER WHO ALWAYS DOES MY OIL CHANGES AND THEY ARE SAYING THAT I NEED A NEW MOTOR BUT NO RECALLS ARE FALLING U SEE MY VIN IN THEIR PAPERWORK. EVERYTHING IS ALWAYS UP TO DATE ON MY VEHICLE OIL CHANGES TO DETAILING ONCE A WEEK AND THIS HAPPENS OUT OF NO WHERE BUT MY INSURANCE STATES THAT UNDER MY VIN I HAVE 2 RECALLS ONE FOR THE MOTOR AND MY KIA DEALER IS REFUSING TO CHECK OR REPLACE IT AFTER MY COMPLAINT I HAVE CONTACTED KIA 1-800 NUMBER AND THEY HAVE ALSO STATED THAT I HAVE A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON MY MOTOR AND THAT I HAVE IN FACT 2 RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE THAT I SHOULD TAKE IT INTO THE NEAREST KIA DEALER BUT I HAVE DONE THAT AND THEY DENIED ME

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V224000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CONTACT CALLED JEFF WYLER FAIRFIELD CADILLAC KIA NISSAN (LOCATED AT 5815 DIXIE HWY, FAIRFIELD, OH 45014, (513) 682-2500) AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,871.
I HAVE RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2014 KIA OPTIMA LX, AND THE HEADLIGHTS ARE SO DIM ON LOW BEAM IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. BRIGHT LIGHTS WORK GREAT. LOW BEAM WHEN YOU MEET ANOTHER ONCOMING VEHICLE YOU CAN BARELY TELL IF YOU ARE IN YOUR LANE OR NOT. ALSO IF YOUR BY YOURSELF ON THE ROAD, YOU CANNOT HARDLY TELL IF ANYTHING IS UP AHEAD IN THE ROAD OR ON THE SIDES OF THE ROAD.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT AN ATTACHMENT TO THE FUEL LINE WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V097000 (FUEL SYSTEM GASOLINE, ENGINE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
I HAVE A 2014 KIA OPTIMA AND I KEEP UP WITH THE MAINTENANCE AND ALSO THE RECALLS ON MY CAR THE ONLY THING I HAVEVREALL HAD TO REPLACE THAT WAS QUITE EXPENSIVE TO ME WAS THE BATTERY SO FAR BUT I TOOK MY CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE RECALL FOR THE BEARING AND WAS TOLD IT WAS FINE AND EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT AND THEY CHANGED MY OIL FOR FREE LESS THAN 5 MONTHS LATER I AM BACK AT THE KIA DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 6 AM COLD RAINING AND SLEETING AND MY CAR LOSES POWER ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON FLASHING SO I PULL OVER TURN OFF THE ENGINE THEN WAIT A MINUTE TURN IT BACK ON SAME THI G SO I GO TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEY WILL CHECK OUT MY CAR AND WITHIN 20 MINUTES TOLD I NEED A NEW ENGINE SO NOW THAT THE ENGINE HAS BEEN REPLACED LESS THAN A MONTH AGO MY DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS DOES NOT TURN ON AND OFF LIKE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO AUTOMATICALLY IF I DONT TURN THEM OFF OR ON THEN THEY WON'T BE OFF OR ON I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY DRIVERSIDE HEADLIGHT BULB FOR THE SECOND TIME NOW AND WHEN I'M DRIVING IT LOOKS SO DIM SO NOW I HAVE TO KEEP SPENDING MONEY EVERY MONTH ON A BULB THAT ISN'T CHEAP MY BACK PASSENGER BRAKE LIGHT KEEPS GOING OUT LIKE EVERY 3 WEEKS THE KIA OPTIMA HAS SOME ELECTRICAL ISSUES AND KIA NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL AND GET THEM ALL FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE ENCOUNTER A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND KIA HAVE A MUCH SERIOUS ISSUE ON THEIR HANDS.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V224000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

2014 KIA OPTIMA SHARK FIN RADIO ANTENNA COVER BROKE OFF AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY. ALL FIVE SCREW HOLDERS CRACKED INSIDE THE HOUSING, OBVIOUSLY A FAULTY DESIGN. THE 2016 KIA OPTIMA SHARK FIN RADIO ANTENNA WAS RECALLED FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE IS STORED IN A GARAGE EACH NIGHT AND HAS NEVER SUSTAINED ANY DAMAGED TO THE ROOF AREA. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE PROBLEM HAPPENING TO MANY KIA OPTIMAS, GOD FORBID MY ANTENNA FLEW OFF AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE BEFORE I EXITED.

ON SEPTEMBER 30TH, 2019 DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 4 WEST BOUND EXITING ALTAMONTE SPRINGS FL, MY STEERING BEGAN MAKING A THUMBING SOUND ALONG WITH A VIBRATION. AS SOON AS I PARKED, I BEGAN LOOKING FOR THE CAUSE OF SOUND. IT COMING FROM A 12 INCH STEERING COLUMN. I CALL KIA ON OCTOBER 3RD ASKING ON ANY TSB OR RECALLS ON THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE. NONE FOUND. THIS OCCURRED WITH NO WARNING. PLEASE INITIATE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. OTHER OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.

THE CAR STARTED TO OVERHEAT, AS I WAS PULLING TO THE SIDE THE WARNING SIGN TO CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM CAME OB. SHORTLY AFTER THE CAR SHUT DOWN WHILE I WAS GOING UP A HILL. I HAD TO TOW TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THAT'S WHERE THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
MY STEERING WHEEL STARTED MAKING CLICKING SOUND AFTER RESEARCHING I FOUND IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM IN 2014 KIA OPTIMA CAUSED BY PLASTIC STEERING COUPLER CONFIDENT THAT KIA WOULD COVER IT BECAUSE OF THE SERVICE BULLETIN PUT OUT FOR MY YEA RE AND BACK TO MY SURPRISE I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET $340. GOD KNOW WHY A MANUFACTURE WOULD PUT PLASTIC IN MAJOR COMPONENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN. I CONTACTED THEIR CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED AND DESPITE IT BEING ISSUED FOR MY YEAR AND MAKE NO OTHER ASSISTANCE WOULD BE PROVIDED UNLESS A FUTURE RECALL WAS ISSUED. THIS IS HUGE SAFETY ISSUE WHICH I CAUGHT PRIOR TO A FATALITY
MY 2014 KIA OPTIMA STARTED MAKING A CLICKING/RATTLING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN DRIVING. THE NOISE IS WORSE WHEN YOU HIT A SMALL DIP IN THE ROAD. THE STEERING FEELS CATCHY AND UNSAFE. OVER THE PAST THE PAST 2 YEARS MY ALIGNMENT HAS BEEN OFF CAUSING ABNORMAL WEAR AND REPLACEMENT OF MY TIRES. I WILL BE TAKING IT TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP TODAY AND HOPEFULLY THEY CAN FIX THIS PROBLEM
DRIVING TO FROM AUSTIN TO HOUSTON ON 290 EAST ON 9/15/2019 AT AROUND 12:00 NOON. I WAS GOING AROUND 70 MILES PER HOUR AND I HEARD A LOUD POP FROM THE ENGINE AND I SAW WHITE SMOKING COMING FROM THE HOOD AND UNDERNEATH THE CAR. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND OPEN THE FRONT HOOD. THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE AT THE BOTTOM, I ACTUALLY SAW FLAMES. THE ENGINE WAS TURN OFF AND I GOT AWAY FROM THE CARE AND IT DID STOP SMOKING. HAD CAR TOWED BACK TO AUSTIN AND IT WAS TOWED TO DEALER WERE CARE WAS PURCHASED.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL NHTSA. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT DID NOT KNOW IF THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,421.
THE ELECTRIC DRIVERS SEAT HAS FAILED. MOTORS NOT ENGAGED. FUSE LINK OK. DEALERSHIP REPLACED CONTROL PANEL. STILL NO POWER TO SEAT. SEAT IS NOW IN FORWARD POSITION.
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK, SAME ROUTE SAME TIME, WHEN MY ENGINE STALLED WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY GOING AROUND A CURVE. "HYBRID SYSTEM FAILURE, PULL OVER AND TURN OFF ENGINE" WAS THE ERROR. I WAS ABLE TO COAST AROUND THE CURVE AND TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. HAD TO TOW IT OFF THE HIGHWAY AT FIRST, AND TRIED TO JUMP IT. (I HAD A PROBLEM IN 2017 WITH THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH ON MY BATTERY, REPLACED SAFETY SWITCH/BATTERY AT THE COST OF 1K AND A MONTH DUE TO THE SAFETY SWITCH BEING AN ASPECT OF THE RECALL FOR THE NON-HYBRID OPTIMAS). BATTERY WAS PERFECT, CAR WAS ABLE TO TURN ON, RADIO, AC, EVERYTHING BUT THE ENGINE. TOWED IT TO FREDY KIA (GREAT SHOP BY THE WAY!), BY THE TIME IT GOT THERE, THEY STATED THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. THEY REPLACED, THEN TRIED TO TURN THE ENGINE BOTH MECHANICALLY AND BY HAND. ENGINE SEIZED PER DEALERSHIP. (I KNOW IM AN IDIOT FOR SAYING THIS BUT..) THIS IS NOT THE FIRST KIA THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO WITH THE SAME RECALL. I HAD A 2014 KIA SPORTAGE IN JANUARY HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. ALL MAINTENANCE RECORDS (OIL CHANGES EVERY 3500 MILES, ANY BELTS/CHANGES,ETC.) WERE PRESENTED TO KIA OF WHICH THEY RECALLED THE 2014 SPORTAGE ENGINE. WITH MY OPTIMA HYBRID (SAME THETA II ENGINE AS THE RECALL FOR THE NON-HYBRID OPTIMAS PER KIAS OWN "INVESTIGATIONS" SINCE 2017) AFTER CONTACTING KIA HEADQUARTERS, THEY ARE STATING THAT THIS IS NOT THE SAME ISSUE BUT ARE WILLING TO "WORK WITH ME". SINCE THEN KIA HEADQUARTERS HAS TALKED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND MY CAR HAS BEEN SITTING THERE FOR ALMOST 3 WEEKS WITH 0 RESPONSE, OR UPDATE ON WHATS NEXT. I CURRENTLY BOTH HAVE AND DONT HAVE A CAR. MORAL OF THE STORY, PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH THESE CARS! OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE FLAWED (MY "SEIZED" ENGINE IS NO LONGER MANUFACTURED AT ALL DUE TO PROBLEMS WITH THE BARRINGS, ONLY FIX IS A SHORT BLOCK ENGINE REPLACEMENT FOR MY LONG BLOCK ENGINE THEN FABRICATE THE HEADERS, ETC.)
WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH ON INTERSTATE I REALIZED MY CAR (IT HAD BEEN SET ON CRUISE CONTROL) WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE NOTHING HAPPENED REALIZED IT HAD COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. PULLED TO SHOULDER. FIRST TIME RESTARTING FAILED SECOND TIME I STARTED AND HIT THE GAS IT STARTED UP BUT HAD A TERRIBLE KNOCKING SOUND AND CAN BARELY ACCELERATE. DROPPED OFF AT KIA DEALERSHIP. IT'S SUNDAY SO WAITING TO HERE BACK TOMORROW.
WHILE DRIVING MY CHECK BRAKE LIGHT WILL COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN ITS WARM OUTSIDE. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ALWAYS COMES ON AT THE SAME TIME. THE BRAKE LIGHT WILL GO OFF AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, THE TRACTION LIGHT WILL STAY ON FOR AWHILE. SOMETIMES IT WILL GO OFF AFTER A FEW MILES, OTHERS IT TAKES A DAY TO GO OFF. ONLY DIFFERENCE I CAN SEE WHILE DRIVING IS THAT BEFORE IT COMES ON THE BRAKES WILL GRAB HARDER THAN USUAL. THE LIGHTS ONLY COME ON WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION OR IMMEDIATELY AFTER COMING TO A STOP. NEVER WHEN IN PARK. THIS STARTED A FEW DAYS AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR. I'VE HAD THE CAR AT THE KIA DEALERSHIP MANY TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE AND THEY HAVE NEVER FIXED THE PROBLEM.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DUE TO ITS PRODUCTION DATE. IT WAS ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SIMPLY OUT OF OIL; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO OIL LEAK. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT HE RECEIVED AN UNKNOWN ALERT IN 2016 REGARDING ENGINE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 94,300.
