DUE TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH ENGINE FAILURE. THE MECHANIC THEN PRINTED OUT INFORMATION ABOUT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V224000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) WHICH THE MECHANIC LINKED TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT THEN CALLED NHTSA WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER HAD YET TO BE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,000.

MY 2013 KIA SORENTO BACKUP CAMERA RECENTLY STOPPED WORKING, AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET IT SEEMS LIKE A VERY COMMON ISSUE FOR A LOT OF KIA MODELS BECAUSE THE CAMERAS ARE NOT PROPERLY SEALED AND GET CORRODED INSIDE OF THEM. WHEN I SHIFT THE CAR TO REVERSE THE SCREEN IS BLACK, THE DISTANCE LINES SHOW UP BUT NO CAMERA VIDEO FEED OR SOMETIMES IT IS INTERMITTENT AFTER WAITING FOR 20+ SECONDS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO KIA CHULA VISTA (540 AUTO PARK DR, CHULA VISTA, CA 91911, (619) 656-2700) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE TRANSMISSION AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V750000 (ENGINE) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 99,500.

THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED HOWEVER NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. FIRST, THE BRAKE LIGHTS KEPT GOING OUT. FINALLY FOUND A LOOSE WIRE. THEN, THE ABS, DOWNHILL, SKID LIGHTS ALL CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME. FOUND ONE WHEEL WHERE IT IS NOT READING SPEED. NEXT, THE GAS COVER DOES NOT OPEN NOW. THERE HAS BEEN ONE ISSUE AFTER ANOTHER WITH THIS CAR. I GET IT SERVICED, MONTHLY. IT IS UP TO DATE ON OIL CHANGES, INSPECTIONS, FLUID AND I AM ABOUT TO REPLACE ALL BRAKES, PADS, ROTORS AND TIRES. I FEEL LIKE THIS CARE, WHICH I HAVE ONLY HAD FOR FOUR AND A HALF YEARS, IS DONE.
DRIVER SIDE HEADLAMP WENT OUT. WENT TO REPLACE AND SAW CONNECTOR FOR FOR BULTB MELTED/BROKEN. READ ONLINE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. DECIDED TO CHECK REST OF LIGHTS AND SEE THAT HIGH CENTER TAIL LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY WORKING WITH SOME BULBS/LEDS BURNED OUT.
MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON (HAD THAT CK..REPALCED THE GAS CAP) THEN MY CAR BEGIN TO MAKE A STRANGE NOISE. I HAD IT CHECKED OUT AT A NTB AND THE TECHICIAN SUGGESTED THAT I TAKE MY VECHILE TO THE DEALERSHIP (THEY WERE LIMITED TO HELPING). I HAD AN APPT AT KIA OF EASTON COLUMBUS OHIO ON 11/12 OR 11/13. I RECALL MY CAR BEGINING TO SHAKE WHILE DRIVINGNI WAS ON A MAIN BUSY STREET LEAVING WALMART ON A SCALE FROM 1 TO 5 THE SHAKING WAS A 2..IT BECAME A LITTLE WORSE...I CALLED MY DA AND SAID MY CAR IS ACTING REALLY STRANGE I THINK WE SHOULD TAKE IT NOW SO WE DID..MY CAR WAS SHAKING EVEN WORSE ITS AT A 5 NOW AND THEN SMOKOING SOME I WAS ON A MAIN BUSY STREET AS MY DA FOLLOWED ME TO DROP MY CAR OFF. THE DEALERRSHIP WAS CLOSED. MY MOM CALLED THE NEXT DAY AND SAID THERE IS A RECALL ON 2013 KIA SEDRENTO ENGINES HOWEVER THE ONLY INFO I KNOW IS THAT THE ENEGINE WAS KNOCKIN AND INTERNAL DAMAGE.
OIL DISAPPEARING NO WARNING LIGHT EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL USE BETWEEN OIL CHANGE ENGINE ALWAYS HOT TOOK TO DEALERSHIP TOLD ME SOMETHING ABOUT A TEST I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND HOW COME THEY COULDN'T GIVE IT ONE OF THOSE DIAGNOSED TEST
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE, WITHOUT WARNING. DUE TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE RESIDENCE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ARRIVED AT THE RESIDENCE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION, THE MECHANIC RECOMMENDED THAT THE VEHICLE BE SERVICED BY AN AUTHORIZED KIA DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO STOKES KIA (202 S. GOOSE CREEK BLVD, GOOSE CREEK, SC 29445) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH ENGINE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND AGREED TO PAY FOR THE PARTS WHILE THE VEHICLE OWNER PAY THE LABOR COST. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V750000 (ENGINE) WHICH WAS LINKED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
THE CAR HAS CUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, IT HAS CUT OFF WHILE SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT ; IT ALSO DRAGS LIKE ITS PULLING A HEAVY LOAD. AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE KIA DECIDES TO ALMOST CUT OFF, BUT HAS A DRAGGING AFFECT TO IT AND THE PICTURE OF THE TIRES TURNING COMES UP; SO THEN I HAVE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD, CUT OFF THE IGNITION, RE-CRANK THE VEHICLE AND THE SLUGGISHNESS OR PULLING OF THE VEHICLE CHANGES TO A NORMAL MODE.

THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO RECOMMENDED THAT THE OIL BE TOPPED OFF TO FIX THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE THE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.
PAINT IS PEELING AT DIFFERENT AREAS OF THE VEHICLE
I NOTICED THAT THERE IS OIL LEAK AND SOAKING OF THE ENGINE SURFACE BY CHANCE WHEN I WAS REPLACING THE AIR FILTER AND DOING A REGULAR CLEANING. BEFORE THAT I NOTICE A ROARING SOUND COMING FROM THE MOTOR WHEN I AM DRIVING MY CAR MAY BE 2 MONTHS AGO. ALTHOUGH THERE IS NO WARNING LIGHTS BUT I AM WORRIED ABOUT THIS SCENARIO.
IN APPROXIMATELY NOVEMBER 2020, MY 2013 KIA SORENTO STARTED USING LARGE AMOUNTS OF OIL IN EXCESS OF 1 QT PER WEEK, WHEN DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 150- 200 MILES' PER WEEK. SHORTLY AFTER, I BEGAN SMELLING BURNING OIL UNDER THE HOOD. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP TO FIND A LEAK, BUT NONE WAS FOUND. ONE TECHNICIAN FELT IT COULD BE A BAD GASKET, ALLOWING EXCESSIVE OIL TO ENTER THE INTAKE AND BURN THERE.

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AND DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THE VEHICLE SEIZED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECOME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS FAILED TO START. THE CONTACT PUSHED THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING LOT. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THERE WAS LEAK OF OIL ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE AND ALSO ANTIFREEZE LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKE TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT REFERENCE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V224000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHERE MY PASSENGER SIDE HEADLAMP WILL SUDDENLY STOP WORKING. I HAVE REPLACED THE BULB, OFTEN THE BULB IS NOT WORKING. I HAVE BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE AND HAD SOCKETS REPLACED AND HAVE HAD THEM CHECK ALL OF THE WIRING AND GROUNDS. I JUST PAID TO HAVE THIS FIXED ON FRIDAY AND IT IS NOT WORKING AGAIN THREE DAYS LATER.
VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AFTER PULLING INTO MY GARAGE, TURNED VEHICLE OFF - KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION, RESTARTED CAR, BACKED UP, PULLED STRAIGHT FORWARD, MADE SURE WHEEL WAS STRAIGHT, PLACED IN PARK, TURNED OFF IGNITION, KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION. RESTARTED CAR, BACKED UP, PULLED FORWARD AGAIN AND PARKED, FINALLY ABLE TO REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION. THANKFULLY I WAS HOME AND WAS ABLE TO REMOVE KEY. THIS HAS HAPPED MANY TIMES ON THIS VEHICLE, SOME OF WHICH I HAVE REPORTED ALREADY.
I'VE BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY CAR SINCE A FEW MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT IT IN 2019. MY HEADLIGHTS WILL JUST STOP WORKING WHEN I'M DRIVING. EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING IN FRONT OF ME. THE CONNECTORS THAT GO TO THE HEADLIGHTS KEEP MELTING AND I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THEM NUMEROUS TIMES. SOMETIMES THE CONNECTORS WILL LAST A LITTLE OVER A MONTH AND SOMETIMES THEY WILL BE MELTED WITHIN DAYS. IF BOTH OF MY HEADLIGHTS ARE WORKING SOMETIMES MY BRAKE LIGHTS WILL GO OUT. I HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER AND BEEN GIVEN WARNINGS FOR BOTH, HEADLIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS BEING OUT. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT A LOT OF KIA OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME ISSUES. NOW I'M HAVING AN ISSUE OF MY CAR RADIO, BACK UP CAMERA SCREEN AND LIGHTER PLUG AND USB PLUG NOT WORKING. THERE IS DEFINITELY AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE GOING ON WITH THESE CARS AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE TRYING TO FIX THIS.
PARKING BRAKE INTERNAL PARTS RUSTED AND DISINTEGRATED IN ONE BACK WHEEL AND THE PARKING BRAKE INTERNAL PARTS SEVERELY RUSTED ON OTHER BACK WHEEL. ALL IN LESS THAN 8 YEARS UNDER MINIMAL AVERAGE USE. HAD THIS NOT BEEN DISCOVERED DURING ANNUAL SAFETY INSPECTION, WOULD HAVE LIKELY NOT HELD WHEN PARKING ON AN INCLINE, AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN INJURY OR DEATH. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATION ON DASH THAT PARKING BRAKE WAS FAILING.
ENGINE LIGHT, OVERHEATING, AND BATTERY ILLUMINATES ON THE ON IGNITION. AFTER TURNING ON THE ENGINE, ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATES AND THE OTHERS ARE NOT ILLUMINATING. VEHICLE WAS RUNNING BUT TENDS TO SHUT DOWN ON THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY BUT I MANAGED TO STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL TO KEEP IT RUNNING BUT GIVES A LATE SHIFT. THEY ARE TIMES IT SHUT DOWN AND THE ENGINE LIGHT, OVERHEATING, AND BATTERY ILLUMINATES AGAIN. BRAND NEW BATTERY AND IT'S A WEEK OLD. I SAW SOME RECALLS ONLINE AND IT BEST DESCRIBES THE VEHICLE PROBLEM. CALLED THE DEALER SERVICE AREA AND SAID THEY ARE NO RECALL FOR VEHICLE VIN. PLEASE HAVE THIS PROBLEM RESOLVE. VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT ON 10/01/2020
PAINT CHIPPING DEFECTIVE PAINT BOTH SIDES OF FRONT WINDSHIELD ALSO HAD THE TOP OF THE CAR PAINT CHIPPED DEALER FIXED THAT PATCH WHEN BOUGHT THE CAR THEN BOTH SIDES OF THE WINDSHIELD STARTED TO CHIP GOING ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE HOOD OF THE CAR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I95 SOUTH IN SOUTH CAROLINA ALMOST TO THE GEORGIA BORDER DOING 70 MPH IN THE MIDDLE LANE WHEN MY ENGINE SHUT DOWN WITHOUT A WARNING WHILE PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE RIGHT. I HAD NO WARNING FROM MY INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF LACK OF POWER ON ACCELERATING PRIOR TO THE ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN. I WAS BARELY WAS ABLE TO GET MY CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER AT ALL AND I HAD TOWED MY CAR TO THE NEAREST REPAIR SHOP AND I FOUND OUT THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED UP. THE ENGINE OIL WAS REPLACED THREE WEEKS AGO AND THE CAR WAS DRIVING GREAT WITHOUT A PROBLEM UNTIL NOW.
THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT AND VANITY LIGHTS DO NOT WORK AT ALL. IT IS NOT A FUSE AND NOT A BULB. THE HEADLIGHTS ALSO TURN OFF WITHOUT WARNING. I HAVE REPLACED THE BULBS TOO MANY TIMES TO SPEAK OF.
ON SEPTEMBER 19, 2020 MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING OUR 2013 KIA SORRENTO TO GET MY WINDSHIELD REPLACED AS IT HAD A CRACK IN IT. WE HAD DRIVEN DOWN THE MOUNTAIN FROM WHERE WE LIVE TO HICKORY, NC WHERE IT WAS CHEAPER TO GET IT REPLACED. WE HAD DRIVEN ABOUT AN HOUR AND THE CAR WAS DRIVING FINE AND WE HAD NOT BEEN HAVING ANY ISSUES WITH IT STARTING, RUNNING OR MAKING ANY KIND OF NOISES IN THE TIME LEADING UP TO THIS DAY. WE CAME TO A RED LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE JUST STOPPED AND WOULD NOT START UP AGAIN, MY HUSBAND SAID THE CAR WAS NOT RUNNING HOT AND THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF OIL OR ANTIFREEZE IN THE ROAD. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND PUSHED THE CAR OFF THE ROAD, WHILE MY HUSBAND STIRRED THE CAR BECAUSE WE LOST ALL STEERING FOR THE CAR. WE CONTINUED TO TRY TO START IT, BUT WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. WE ENDED UP HAVING IT TOWED TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP IN HICKORY, NC (PARAMOUNT KIA). IT WAS ON A SATURDAY SO THEY WERE SHORT STAFFED, BUT WERE ABLE TO LOOK AT MY VEHICLE. I WAS SHOCKED BY WHAT THEY SAID THE PROBLEM WAS. WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE V6 ENGINE HAD SEIZED AND IT NEEDED A STARTER AND A NEW BATTERY. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS GOING TO COST OVER $6,000.00 TO GET IT FIXED. HOW COULD AN ENGINE WITH AROUND 114,000.00 MILES JUST STOP RUNNING AT A RED LIGHT WITH NO WARNING AND HOW DOES THE BATTERY AND STARTER ALSO GO OUT AT THE SAME TIME? WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE THEY WERE GOING TO PUT IN THE CAR ALREADY HAD 88,000 MILES ON IT (I HAVE ATTACHED THE QUOTE AND DIAGNOSIS SHEET)I HAVE ALL OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS. IT WAS GOING TO COST THIS MUCH AND THIS WAS NOT EVEN A NEW ENGINE AND WHO KNOWS HOW LONG THIS ENGINE WOULD LAST IF IT ALREADY HAS THIS MANY MILES ON IT? I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF AN ENGINE JUST STOPPING LIKE THAT. I KNOW KIA HAS RECALLS FOR 4 CYLINDERS, BUT I WANTED TO MAKE YOU AWARE THAT THERE ARE ISSUES WITH THE V6 AS WELL.*DT*AS
WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND HEARD A SOUND AS IF I HAD RAN OVER A PIECE OF PLASTIC. ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON AND THE CAR JUST SHUT OFF. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY SAFELY BEFORE THE CAR SHUT DOWN AGAIN, AFTER THAT THE CAR WOULDN'T START ANYMORE.
WAS ON THE FREEWAY GOING ABOUT 60 MILES ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN WITHOUT ANY WARNING. ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD THE ENGINE BLOW. ON 9/17/20 HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A KIA DEALER WHERE IT HAD BEEN FOR THE LAST 3 MONTHS NOW GOING ON 4 MONTHS
LEFT HEADLIGHT/TURN ASSEMBLY STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. SAME ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN REPLACED BY DEALER ON TWO OCCASIONS. REPLACEMENT LIGHT BULBS HAVE NOT RESOLVED THE ISSUE, POINTING TO ISSUE WITH ENTIRE ASSEMBLY.
MY ENGINE IS BURNING A LARGE AMOUNT OF OIL. I TAKE IT IN TO DO REGULAR CHANGES. I HAVE A 2013 KIA SORENTO. IT HAS 136000 MILES JUST RECENTLY THE OIL LIGHT STARTED COMING ON, CHECKED THE DIP STICK AND IT REGISTERS NONE. ITS BEEN TAKEN FOR REGULAR OIL CHANGES BUT BURNS UP THE OIL BEFORE ITS TIME FOR A CHSNGE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND. ALSO IVE SEEN NUMEROUS WHITE SORENTOS ON THE ROAD AND MOST OF THEM HAVE THE SAME PAINT PROBLEM ON THE ROOF RIGHT ABOVE WINDSHIELD. ITS PEELING OFF AND GETTING WORSE. ALSO CRACKING AROUND KIA SYMBOL ON REAR HATCH. IT STARTED WITH RUST SPOTS THEN, CRACKING THEN PAINT PEELING. THE ENGINE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEMS WITH KIA OWNERS AND THE PAINT OBVIOUSLY IS A DEFECT FROM THE FACTORY. LOVE MY SORENTO BUT NEED THESE ISSUES FIXED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2013 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, FLAMES WERE SUDDENLY PRESENT COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES AND FILED A FIRE REPORT. DURING THE INCIDENT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER JIM SHORKEY KIA LOCATED AT 1050 PITTSBURGH RD, UNION TOWN, PA 15401 WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED UNDER THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V224000(ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000. INVALID VIN.
B1764 OCS MAT DEFECT. IT'S BEEN REPORTED TO US BY CENTURY KIA (TAMPA, FL) THAT THEY CANNOT FIX MY AIR BAG SENSOR FORCING US TO PAY A TOTAL $2,400.00. WE DON'T FEEL WE SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE FOR A PART THAT REQUIRES ZERO MAINTENANCE. I'D LIKE FOR KIA TO RESOLVE THIS OR FURTHER ACTION WILL BE TAKEN.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2013 KIA SORENTO SX, THE OIL SWITCH FAILED AND LEAKED OUT ALL THE OIL IN ONE DAY (LESS THAN 15 MILES) CAUSING ENGINE ISSUES. THE ISSUE HAPPENED WHILE IN MOTION AND THE OIL LIGHT FLICKERED ON AND OFF. THIS SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE ENGINES.
THE CAR JUST DIED!!! EVERYTHING ELSE WAS FINE. ENGINE LOCKED UP. SITTING STILL AT A STOP SIGN.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITHOUT WARNING AND TWO MINUTES LATER MY ENGINE SEIZED IN THE MIDDLE OF A 4 LANE HIGHWAY AROUND A BLIND TURN. I FEARED FOR MY LIFE AS I COULDN'T MOVE MY VEHICLE AND CARS TRUCKS WERE ZOOMING BY AT 80 MPH. I HAD TO GET MY CAR PUSHED OFF THE ROAD TO SAFETY, LATER TOWED TO A LOCAL SHOP. WAS TOLD THE ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY SHOT. THIS IS COMMON WITH KIA ENGINES AS MY RESEARCH HAS SHOWN. MY MAKE AND MODEL HAVE HAD RECALLS BUT NOT MY VIN#. SEEMS HOWEVER I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. WHY WAS MY ENGINE NOT RECALLED? I'M LUCKY I WASN'T SERIOUSLY HARMED BUT NOW I'M LEFT WITHOUT A CAR AND FEAR LOOSING MY JOB BC I DON'T HAVE A WAY TO COMMUTE 35 MINUTES TO WORK NOW.
PARKED VEHICLE IN GARAGE (FLAT SURFACE), PUT IN PARK, TURNED OFF VEHICLE; THE IGNITION KEY WOULD NOT TURN BACK TO THE LOCK POSITION, TURNED BACK ON, STRAIGHTED STEERING WHEEL, TOOK OUT OF PARK, PUT BACK IN PARK, TURNED VEHICLE OFF, PULLED BACK ON STEERING WHEEL, PUSHED IN BRAKE AND KEY WOULDN'T COME OUT. ATTEMPTED THIS A 3RD TIME BUT BACKED UP & THEN FORWARD AND FINALLY ABLE TO REMOVE KEY. HAS HAPPENED MANY OTHER TIMES.
CONNECTING ROD SHOOT OUT THE ENGINE AND WENT THROUGHT THE 4TH CYLYNDER OPENING A BIG HOLE. THIS VEHICLE HAS ONLY 47000 MILES. THIS BREAK DOWN HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY.

THE CONTACT CALLED ALL STAR KIA OF SAN BERNARDINO (735 SHOW CASE DRIVE NORTH, SAN BERNARDINO, CA 92408, (888) 480-0418) HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS LIKE THAT OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V224000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED HOWEVER, NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,000.
BEARING WERE BAD AND IT CAUSED MY ENGINE TO SEIZE AND STOP WORKING.
Purchased the car in 2020 paint above windshield was beginning to peel, within months the a-pillars were peeling off, the hood is peeling off and now the section above the windshield is beginning to rust due to the peeling. I purchased the 2013 Kia in February, 2019. In August, 2020 the "check engine" light came on and had it diagnosed as "Throttle body error"(not exact terms). I had the throttle body actuator and gasket replaced. When I questioned one of the service personnel about having to "re-learn" it, he stated "No". 1 year later (8/23/21), engine light again came on and the intake manifold was the issue. The intake manifold was replaced and I was under the belief that this would be the end of the issue. On 9/3/21 the same part (Throttle body) needed to be replaced a second time at Kia. When I questioned the service manager if the part had to be "re-learned", he said yes it does or it won't function properly and could affect the intake manifold. On 1/30/22, the check engine light again came on and this time the code was "Intake manifold Runner Performance (Bank1). This is a Motor Module-VCM which is associated with the Intake Manifold. After this was installed on 2/2/22, the car was driven home and the "check engine light" came on again(less than 15 minutes after it was taken out of the dealership. A scan check revealed that the part that controls the throttle body is now defective and needs to be replaced. This all has created unsafe road conditions due to the vehicle going into "Limp Mode", as is designed to do, however, this was experienced while driving on the Interstate. This seams to be a recurring issue with this car and I have only owned it for less than 3 years. All work was done by certified Kia technicians at the dealership.
2013 KIA SORENTO, 2.4L. I HAVE REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR, ACCELERATOR POSITION SENSOR, AND THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR. SYMPTOMS OF THE PROBLEM ARE THIS, AFTER DRIVING TO ACHIEVE FULL OPERATING TEMP, LET THE CAR IDLE FOR 15 MINUTES, PULL OUT AND GET ON HIGHWAY, SLOW ACCELERATION, AND AT 2000 RPMS, THE CAR VIOLENTLY JERKS ABOUT 3 TIMES, TACH GOES TO 1000 RPM, ACCELERATOR IS NON RESPONSIVE BUT ENGINE DOES NOT DIE, AFTER ABOUT 4-5 SECONDS, THE ENGINE BEGINS TO RESPOND NORMALLY, NO CODES ARE CAPTURED, NO INDICATION TO WHAT THE ISSUE IS. I DID BRING MY CAR IN NOT LONG AGO AND THEY RE-FLASHED THE COMPUTER THAT CONTROLS THE TRANSMISSION, AND THIS NEW SOFTWARE MAY BE AT FAULT. IT IS NON REPRODUCIBLE TO DEMO TO THE KIA MECHANIC. BUT CAN HAPPEN AS SAID ABOVE BUT NOT RELIABLY. I PLAN TO GET A FULL ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC OF THE MAIN COMPUTER, THE BODY CONTROLLER, AND TRANSMISSION CONTROLLERS TO SEE WHERE THE FAULT IS. I QUESTION THE HEALTH OF THE MAIN COMPUTER AS NO CODES ARE RECORDED.....SAMPLING RATE SEEMS TO BE IN QUESTION. THIS CAN HAPPEN AT 60 MPH OR 30 MPH, AT LOWER SPEEDS SEEMS LIKE THE ENGINE WILL TOTALLY QUITE ABOUT 30 PERCENT OF THE TIME, OTHER TIMES THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN BUT IN "LIMP MODE" AND NON RESPONSIVE. I SEE THIS AS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE, YOU NEVER KNOW IF IT WILL DIE. IT ALSO SEEMS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS COMMANDED TO A LOWER GEAR AT HIGH SPEED AND AFTER THE JERKS, THE ENGINE WILL SHUT DOWN SO DAMAGE WILL NOT OCCUR TO TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE. IF ENGINE DOES NOT SHUT DOWN FULLY, IT SEEMS LIKE IT TAKES ABOUT 5 SECONDS FOR THE COMPUTER(S) TO RESET AND RESUME "NORMAL" OPERATIONS. ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN IN MOTION, NEVER STATIONARY ON CITY STREET OR HIGHWAY AT 60 +MPH.
While on the highway, the engine blew causing a sudden loss of speed and power steeting. The car/engine is currently available for inspection. This is a known issue with the 2013 Kia Sorentos as well as other models. From reviews online, it appears that there is an issue with the crankshaft and oil. For some reason other 2013 Sorentos (and other models) were recalled - this VIN was not. The car was inspected by two independent mechanics (two different companies) and both advised that this is the same problem that was recalled for the crankshaft/oil issue and that I should contact Kia. I contacted Kia and they said this VIN was not re-called. There were no warnings in regards to this issue. The car suddenly lost speed on the highway and I was fortunate enough to be able to glide to a safe area off the highway.
TRUCK WAS LEAKING FLUID. CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF ME DRIVING ON NEW JERSEY PARKWAY. TRUCK WAS ALSO SMOKING.
2 FRONT HEATED SEATS OVERHEATING. STARTED OVER 1 YEAR AGO. TAKEN IN TO KIA FOR CHECK, NO PROBLEM FOUND. OVERHEATING CONTINUED WHILE DRIVING OVER THE PAST YEAR. TAKEN FOR KIA SERVICE THIS WEEK. CORROSION IN WIRING OF PASSENGER SEAT. SEVERAL REPAIRS MADE TO DRIVERS SEAT. NO FIRE, BUT WAS A CONSTANT CONCERN.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ABOUT 50MPH, THE RPM GAUGE ROSE SIGNIFICANTLY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS FAILING AND SHOULD BE REPLACED.

THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD OVERHEAT AND CATCH ON FIRE. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.
