I AM 100% SURE I EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION. HERE ARE THE FACTS: 1. APPROXIMATELY 4-5 P.M., I WAS EASTBOUND ON SEPULVEDA BLVD., TORRANCE, CA. (ALMOST AT THE CORNER OF ARLINGTON AVE) ABOUT TO COMPLETE MY LAST ERRAND OF THE DAY TO PICK UP A PRESCRIPTION AT RITE AID DRUG STORE. I TURNED RIGHT INTO THE PARKING LOT, NOTICED A SPOT ON MY LEFT AND DECIDED TO PARK THERE. THE PARKING SPACE WAS APPROXIMATELY 20-30 FEET FROM THE ENTRANCE AND I PROCEEDED TO PULL INTO IT, EASING UP ON THE GAS PEDAL AND GUIDING MY CAR INTO THE SPACE. MY CAR WAS ALMOST IN THE PARKING POSITION, FACING EAST AND I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE TO FINALIZE THE ACT. THERE WAS AN EMPTY PARKING SPACE IN FRONT OF MY CAR, BUT THERE WERE PARKED CARS TO THE LEFT AND TO THE RIGHT. 2. AS I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE, AND OUT OF NOWHERE, THE CAR ACCELERATED, JUMPED AN ISLAND IN FRONT OF MY CAR, AND HIT THE TWO PARKED CARS. I HIT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF CAR A AND SWERVED TO LEFT, SIDE SWIPING THE LEFT REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF CAR (B). ALL I COULD THINK ABOUT WAS STEERING CLEAR OF ANY PEOPLE SO I HEADED FOR A CLEAR OPEN SPACE AND IN THE PROCESS, MY CAR JUMPED ANOTHER ISLAND AND I WAS HEADED STRAIGHT FOR SEPULVEDA BLVD WHICH IS A MAIN THOROUGHFARE. BRAKING DID NOT STOP THE CAR SO I THREW THE GEAR INTO 'PARK' AND IT FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. THE LOCATION OF THE FINAL STOP WAS IN THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE PARKING LOT, AWAY FROM PEOPLE. THANK GOD NO ONE WAS HURT. I HAD NIGHTMARES THINKING ABOUT WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. THIS CAR WAS OUT OF CONTROL. STATE FARM HAS RULED THAT I AM 51% AT FAULT BECAUSE I DID NOT MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. ALSO I LOST MY EXCELLENT GOOD DRIVER SAFETY DISCOUNTS BESIDES THE LOST VALUE OF THE CAR. IN ADDITION, THIS INCIDENT REPRESENTS THE DEADLY FORCE THIS CAR REPRESENTS TO PUBLIC SAFETY. IT WENT THROUGH 2 RECALLS AND STILL IT PRESENTS CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER. *JS
MY 2007 LEXUS HYPER ACCELERATED. I HAD THE RE-CALL WORK DONE ON THIS. IT WAS AS IF THE CAR HAD A MIND OF IT'S OWN IT WAS DAMAGED AND I WAS HURT. *TR
GAS PEDAL STUCK AND COULDN'T GET STOPPED AND WRAPPED THE CAR AROUND A POLE TO GET IT STOPPED. *TR
ON JULY 16, 2009, MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING SLOWLY BEHIND A TRUCK WHEN A TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNED RED. SHE TRIED TO STOP AND HAD HER FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE, BUT THE CAR DIDN'T STOP AND CRASHED INTO THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF HER, CAUSING ABOUT $8,000 DAMAGE TO HER CAR AND NONE TO THE TRUCK. NO ONE WAS INJURED, BUT MY WIFE MISSED A DAY OF WORK. WE SUSPECT THAT THIS WAS REALLY A "STUCK" ACCELERATOR PROBLEM OR, REALLY AN ELECTRONIC PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATOR. THIS HAS HAPPENED ONLY ONE TIME. THE LEXUS DEALER AND THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP SAID HER BRAKES WERE FINE. SUBSEQUENTLY, IN FEB 2010, THE LEXUS DEALER CALLED US AND HAD HER BRING IN THE CAR (2007 LEXUS ES350) FOR ACCELERATOR/BRAKE REPAIRS. ALTHOUGH HER CAR HAS NOT OFFICIALLY BEEN RECALLED FOR THE RECENT TOYOTA ACCELERATION PROBLEM, THEY WANTED TO PRE-EMPTY A FUTURE RECALL AND GET HER CAR FIXED. LAST YEAR, HER CAR WAS RECALLED FOR A FLOOR MAT PROBLEM, BUT THEY SAID HER FLOOR MATS HAD BEEN INSTALLED PROPERLY AND NOTHING WAS DONE. *TR
