Rusted out frame, missing entire sections of it in the rear end, body mounts are floating, Lexus inspected the car at 144,000~ miles and deemed it unsafe to drive, was owned by a friend of mine and now it is up for sale at morse road auto sales inc in columbus ohio.
I am writing to formally request an investigation into a safety defect affecting the dashboard on my 2004 Lexus GX470. Over the past several months, I have observed significant cracking along the top of the instrument panel. I believe this defect poses a serious safety hazard: if the dashboard material fractures or delaminates, it could interfere with proper expansion and deployment of the front passenger airbag in the event of a collision. Despite the severity of this condition, Lexus has only issued a “limited-service campaign” rather than a full safety recall. Under that campaign, Lexus offers repair assistance only to owners located within certain regions and only if they pay a service fee. I contacted Lexus Headquarters, and requested a complete, no-cost replacement of the defective dashboard assembly, and was declined without satisfactory justification. I consider this response inadequate because: 1.Safety Risk to Occupants oThe dashboard crack traverses the airbag deployment zone. oIf the material fails, the passenger airbag may not be deployed correctly or on time. 2.Insufficient Remedy oA limited-service campaign does not guarantee replacement or cover all affected vehicles. oOwners outside specified regions or who have previously paid for dashboard repairs receive no assistance. 3.Regulatory Precedent oFederal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208 mandates reliable airbag deployment. oA comprehensive recall would ensure all affected vehicles receive robust, no-cost repairs. I respectfully request that NHTSA open an investigation under 49 U.S.C. § 30162(a) to determine whether this dashboard cracking constitutes a safety-related defect warranting a nationwide recall. I am prepared to provide photographs, service records, and any additional information needed.
The contact owns a 2004 Lexus GX470. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 MPH, the driver’s side seat heater was activated on the high setting. The contact stated that the following morning he noticed small blisters on his back; medical attention was needed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage 67,000.
Vehicle maintained per manual. Frame rusted thru in numerous places, viable holes obvious. Vehicle deemed unsafe from Pep Body service personnel. Attached a frame picture from passenger side.
BL 265/65R17 110S THIS TIRE EXPLODED AS I was existing the Harbor Fwy going south at Adams Blvd. The Lexus has an automatic system that prevents instant breaking when the tire pressure exceptionally low tire pressure or wet pavements due to weather conditions and or slippery pavements. Therefore as I was existing the Lexus did not allow me to stop as I normal did for over 17 years. The Lexus then hit the rear of the car stop at the stop light. These defective tires must be recalled so other life's will be spared. Many folks have loss there life in USA and many foreign countries. I have purchased new tires from Firestone for over 16 years. Firestone is the only tires company we allowed to replace all our tires. This is for our 2004 gx 470. Please assist the American consumers to stop these defective tires that could kill someone while you are reading this complaint.
The contact owns a 2004 Lexus GX470. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when he noticed there was a crack on the dashboard. The contact was not sure what caused the dashboard to crack. The dealer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer informed the contact that there had been a Customer Support Program for the dashboard failure which expired in 2017. The contact had not been made aware of the special program. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
Once existing the car the Officernoticed that my rear driver tire had expolded. This is what caused the accident and caused me tremendously back pain problems. The tires were purchase new from Firestone Complete Auto Care as we only purchased Firestone tires beginning with our first replacement tires until present.Thank God my life was spared. Unfortunately this is the second major conflict with Firestone and there defective products and maintenance schedules. Lexus rear automatic lowering up and down rear end system has product defects also. The brakes systems would not stop the Lexus 2004 GX 470. They would not stop as many times of previous stops.

DICSCOVERED DURING MINOR REPAIR,FRAME OF VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY DETERIORATED DUE TO RUST T.FRAME PERFORATED IN NUMEROUS PLACES. RATED UNFIT TO DRIVE ,LEXUS DENIES ANY RESPONSIBILITY. VEHICLE IS IN NEED OF COMPLETE FRAME REPLACEMENT . VEHICLE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. RUST APPEARS AT BOX FRAME AND WELDS THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE VEHICLE BEING OUT OF WARRANTY. *JS
TOYOTA HAS A RUSTY FRAME RECALL AND NOW THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT I HAVE A RUST ON MY FRAME THAT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED. WHEN I OBTAINED MY VIN ON THE SIDE OF MY VEHICLE, IT SAYS MFD BY TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION. THE RUST HAS LEAD TO ME HAVING TO CHANGE OUT THE ENTIRE SUSPENSION AND THIS WAS TOLD TO ME NOW WHEN I SERVICE MY CAR EVERY 5K MILES WITH THE DEALERSHIP.
2004 LEXUS GX 470. HAS FRAME ROT DUE TO THE CONDINSATION HOSE RELEASED ON TOP OF THE PASSANGER SIDE FRAME. IT RUNS DOWN THE PASSANGER SIDE FRAME AND PUT HOLES IN IT DUE TO INPROPER PLACEMENT. NOW THE PASSANGER SIDE DOOR IS SLIGHLY OUT OF ALIGNMENT WHEN CLOSED. I HAVE HAD TO WRAPP STEEL AROUND THE FRAME. FROM FRONT DOOR TO FRONT OF BACK WHEEL. CONTACTED LEXUS AT 1800-255-3987 IN PLANO TEXAS FOR CASE NUMBER [XXX]. THEN SAID ONLY A MINOR WARRANTY FOR CORRESION AND IT IS NOT COVERED. ALSO THE PERSON ON THE PHONE REFUSED TO GIVE ME TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS MAILING ADDRESS. THIS RUST IS ON TOP OF THE FRAME AND I BELIEVE WOULD TAKE 10-15 YEARS TO SHOW UP. THERE IS NOW MANY HOLES IN ONLY THE PASSANGER SIDE FRAME. HERE ARE PICTURES PICTURE 6100 SHOWS THE HOSE OVER THE FRAME. IS IT POSSIABLE THE CAR COULD BRAKE WHEN DRIVING. MY GX470 2004 HAS RUST ON FRAME, SHOCKS AND SUSPENSION. HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY WILL NOT MAKE ANY REPAIRS BECAUSE THEY WILL COST MORE THAN VEHICLE. LEXUS SHOULD REALLY CONSIDER THESE FRAMES FROM DANA OHIO IN THE RECALLS AS THE OTHERS. OVER THE YEARS I HAVE HAD THE RADIATOR, EMERGENCY BRAKE AND RIMS ALL RUST OUT AND REPLACED AS WELL AND THE VEHICLE IS NOT EVEN IN SNOW OR BEACH AREAS. THESE VEHICLES ALSO HAVE THE SEAT BELT ISSUE WHICH MAKES THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAY ON. AS NICE AND RELIABLE THESE VEHICLES WERE I BELIEVE LEXUS SHOULD BACK THEIR PRODUCT!
VEHICLE FAILED INSPECTION DUE TO RUST HOLE IN FRAME AND TRANSMISSION SUPPORT. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE REST OF THE FRAME IS IN GOOD CONDITION WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT IT MUST BE A DEFECT WITH MATERIALS USED FOR THE FRAME, I WOULD EXPECT SAME TYPE OF DAMAGE TO THE REST OF THE FRAME. THE CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED, AND IT IS IN GREAT CONDITION OTHERWISE, AFTER CLOSE TO 103,000 MILES. THIS MAY BE RELATED TO THE TOYOTA FRAME RUST ISSUES THAT WERE REPORTED SINCE, TO MY KNOWLEDGE THE GX SHARES THE SAME FRAME AS OTHER TOYOTA SUVS/TRUCKS. LEXUS REFUSED TO HELP W/ THE REPAIR ETC. AND THEY DEEMED THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE, I HAVE TO TOW IT OUT OF THEIR DEALERSHIP. ATTACHED, MY SHOP REVIEW, LEXUS REVIEW AND PICTURES FROM MY MECHANIC. I AM ASKING LEXUS FOR THE PICTURES THEY TOOK WHILE THE CAR WAS IN SHOP.

THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. THE DASHBOARD IS ALL CRACKED BUT MY PROBLEM IS THAT I DRIVE MY KIDS AND THERE IS A RECALL PROBLEM WITH SIDE CURTAIN-SHIELD-AIRBAGS (CSAS) WHICH DEPLOY FROM THE ROOF RAILS IN THE EVENT OF CERTAIN TYPES OF CRASHES. I HAD CALL 2 DIFFERENT LEXUS AND THE HEADQUATERS AND THEY ALL THEM ME DIFFERENT THINGS. I JUST WANT THE DASHBOARD AND AIRBAGS TO BE FIX AS THIS IS A FAMILY BAG.
BRAKES TOTALLY FAILED WHILE DESCENDING A STEEP INCLINE ON A CITY/ STATE HIGHWAY CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL AND IMPACT WITH A TREE. AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY.
ENTIRE FRAME OF THE CAR IS RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT ALMOST NOTHING IS HOLDING THE CAR TOGETHER AND WE'VE BEEN TOLD IT'S NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. HAS BEEN MAINTAINED ON REGULAR BASIS AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN PARKED IN GARAGE AT NIGHT AND ON MOST WEEKDAYS. CAR SHOULDN'T BE RUSTED OUT WHEN CARED FOR METICULOUSLY (DOCUMENTATION AVAILABLE).

DASHBOARD HAS BECOME STICKY, CRACKED, AND IS NOW SO SHINY WE HAVE TO DRAPE A TOWEL OVER THE DASH AS HEADLIGHT GLARE MAKES DRIVING AT NIGHT VERY DANGEROUS. LEXUS ACKNOWLEDGES THEY HAD A BAD BATCH OF DASHBOARDS AND NO LONGER USES THAT VENDOR. LEXUS CORPORATE HAS RESPECTFULLY DECLINED REPAIR CLAIMING THE ISSUE DID NOT SURFACE UNTIL LIMITED WINDOW EXPIRED. CRACKED DASHBOARD AND OCCASIONAL THUMP,BUMP WHEN I STOP AT STOP LIGHTS
I OWN A 2004 LEXUS GX470. IN JUNE 2016, I WAS TURNING INTO A DRIVEWAY AND THE CAR VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM KICKED IN AND CAUSED THE CAR TO JERK BACK AND FORTH, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED AND IN IDEAL ROAD CONDITIONS, NO REASON FOR THE VSC TO KICK IN. THE VSC LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS SINCE REMAINED ON. SINCE THAT EVENT, THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM HAS KICKED IN FOR NO REASON NUMEROUS TIMES. JUST A FEW EXAMPLES, IN JULY, WHILE I WAS TRAVELING 25 MPH ON AN EXIT RAMP, SUDDENLY THE VSC TOOK OVER AND IT CAUSED THE CAR TO SWERVE BACK AND FORTH, ALMOST CAUSING ME TO RUN OFF THE RAMP INTO AN EMBANKMENT AND WHILE GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP, IT KICKED IN AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO SWERVE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IN EACH CASE, THE ROAD AND WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE NOT AN ISSUE. THE CAR DOES NOT FEEL STABLE, AS IT DID BEFORE. I HAVE TO DRIVE SLOWER, TAKE TURNS SLOWER, AND ADJUST HOW I APPROACH STANDARD DRIVING.I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LEXUS DEALERSHIP AND AFTER $2500 WORTH OF REPAIRS, THE VSC CONTROL LIGHT IS STILL ON AND THE CAR IS STILL UNSTABLE. THEY CLAIMED THEY FIXED A HEIGHT CONTROL ISSUE AND REPLACED A SENSOR, HOWEVER IT DID NOT FIX THE VSC ISSUE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE AND CAN CAUSE A LIFE THREATENING ACCIDENT. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS SPECIFIC CAR AND MODEL YEAR, FROM OTHER COMPLAINTS. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE AND RECEIVE PRIORITY. I HAVE A 2004 GX470 SUV. TODAY I WAS IN A PARKING LOT, TRYING TO BACK OUT AND LEAVE. WITH ONE FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, I FOUND IT STUCK, WHICH WAS ODD, AS I HAD NOT EXPERIENCED IT BEFORE. SO I PRESSED ON IT AGAIN, I THOUGHT, LIGHTLY. I WAS TAKEN COMPLETELY BY SURPRISE, AS I SEEMED TO HAVE FLOWN BACKWARDS, AS I HAVE A V8 ENGINE, MY ACCELERATION WAS QUICK AND MY CAR IMMEDIATELY RAMMED INTO 2 PARKED CARS BEHIND ME. THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET AVAILABLE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THE TRANSMISSION, TRANSFER CASE "ACTUATOR" REPLACEMENT PART # 36100-6D190, IS CRACKING AROUND 90,000 TO 100,000 MILES AND LEAKING OIL ON STREETS AND ANYWHRE YOU PARK. THE CAUSE IS FROM LEXUS SERVICE AT THE 100,000 MILE TUNE UP, IN MANY CASES, IF A OWNER HAS NEVER USED THEIR 4 WHEEL DRIVE, AND SERVICE ENGAGES 4 WHEEL DRIVE DURING SERVICE AND THEN CRACKING THIS DEFECTIVE PART THAT HAS NOT BEEN USED IN 10 YEARS. THAT WAS MY SITUATION, WHERE I DLEIVERED A PERFECT VEHICLE TO LEXUS OF GREENVILLE SC FOR 100,000 TUNE UP SERVICE, AND THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME LEAKING. I TOOK IT TO THEM TWICE AND WHICH THEY SAY THEY DON'T KNOW WHY I'M HERE THE NOISE AND WHY MY BRAKE PEDAL WAS RATTLING WHEN I LOOK ON THE LEXUS FORUMS I SEE SEVERAL PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE BRAKE ACTUATORS ARE GOING OUT ON THEIR VEHICLES SOME VEHICLES ONLY HAVE $34,000 ON THEM. THE DANGEROUS PART IS THAT YOU GET NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ANYTHING IF IT GOES OUT AND YOU'RE ON THE EXPRESSWAY YOU CAN NOT STOP THE VEHICLE AT ALL, ONE PERSON EVEN BLOGGED ABOUT HOW THERE'S WENT COMPLETELY OUT ON THEM LUCKILY THEY WERE DRIVING UP IN THE DRIVEWAY BUT THE VEHICLE NEVER STOPPED. LEXUS IS CHARGING PEOPLE ANYWHERE FROM 2 TO $4,000 TO FIX THESE WHEN THEY KNOW THAT SEVERAL OF THEIR VEHICLES ARE HAVING THESE PROBLEMS WHILE STILL NEW. I JUST TOOK IT TO LEXUS AGAIN LAST WEEK AND THE SERVICEMEN SAID IT SOUNDS LIKE THE ACTUATOR IS GOING OUT IF IT IS THEN THAT'S GOING TO BE $4,000. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE I HEAR A LOT OF CLICKING UP UNDER THE HOOD AND YOU CAN FEEL THE VIBRATION ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE BRAKE PEDAL.
THERE IS A HUGE CRACK IN THE DASH THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED BY MANY GX DRIVERS AND IS OBVIOUSLY A FAULT IN LEXUS' MANUFACTURING. *TR
SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER GAUGES DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED ON, WILL EITHER ACTIVATE RIGHT AWAY OR FLICKER OR DO NOTHING. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM AND IS HARD TO DIAGNOSE OR EVEN FIX. HAVE SEEN ON LEXUS FORUMS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND SEEMS MANY OF US ARE DRIVING "SPEED BLIND". I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE CLUSTER SENT OUT AND "REPAIRED", ONLY TO HAVE PROBLEM COME BACK. I FEEL THIS PROBLEM IS DANGEROUS AND THE MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.
THE ENTIRE DASH BOARD IS CRACKED. THERE ARE SPOTS ON MY LEATHER SEATS AND ARM RESTS ARE CRACKED AND TORN. ALSO TOLD THE TRUCK DOESN'T HAVE SHOCKS BUT I CAN FEEL EVERY BUMP
NUMEROUS CRACKS HAVE APPEARED ALL OVER THE DASHBOARD, INCLUDING OVER THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. *TR
2004 Lexus GX470 factory-installed Blizzard White paint is peeling off in sheets. Was told by certified body shop that there is a clear defect with the primer. The areas affected are the hood, roof, and near back windows - no impact or other damage is present. This is unsafe as it will lead to the corrosion of the body of the car. There was a recall for the 2008-2009 models with this paint color, but this needs to be extended to the 2004 model year as well. There were no warning messages and the car is available for inspection.
MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM A LOCAL LEXUS DEALERSHIP IN JANUARY 2008 AND SINCE THEN HAS BEEN GARAGED DURING THE DAY AT MY OFFICE AND GARAGED OVERNIGHT IN MY BUILDING'S ENCLOSED PARKING STRUCTURE. THE VEHICLE RARELY SAT IN THE SUN FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME, BUT IN NOVEMBER 2012, CRACKS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DASH BEGAN APPEARING. THEY WERE RAZOR THIN AND BY THE END OF 2013, THE ENTIRE PASSENGER SIDE DASH WAS COVERED IN CRACKS, DIRECTLY ABOVE THE AIR BAG. THE LEXUS DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE WAS NO OPEN RECALL, ANY REPAIR WOULD BE AT MY EXPENSE, WHICH WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $2,500. I SEARCHED MULTIPLE ONLINE FORUMS (CLUBLEXUS.COM, LEXUSOWNERSCLUB.COM) AND THIS SAME PREMATURE CRACKING OF THE GX470 DASH WAS BEING EXPERIENCED BY HUNDREDS OF OWNERS. I ALSO OWN A LEXUS LS430 AND I HAVE TREATED IT EXACTLY LIKE MY GX470, BUT THANKFULLY THE LS HAS NOT EXHIBITED ANY DASH CRACKING. I FEEL THAT THE GX470 DASH CRACKING ISSUE IS A SAFETY RISK, SINCE THE INTEGRITY OF THE DASH IS BEING COMPROMISED AND IT MAY NEGATIVELY EFFECT THE FUNCTIONING OF THE VEHICLE AIR BAGS. I FEEL THAT THIS PROBLEM IS DUE TO POOR QUALITY MATERIALS AND THAT LEXUS SHOULD PROVIDE A REPLACEMENT AT NO COST TO THE VEHICLE OWNER. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR SUV AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK IT IN A BANK PARKING LOT IN NILES, IL. THE SUV ACCELERATED SUDDENLY WITHOUT MY WIFE PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL CAUSING HER TO DRIVE OVER A GREEN SPACE, HIT A SIGN ON BANK'S PROPERTY, DRIVE OVER A LARGE BUSH AND A WIRE FENCE AT AN ADJACENT PARK AND FINALLY STOP AFTER REPEATEDLY PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. WE TOWED THE CAR TO THE LEXUS DEALERSHIP AND FROM THERE TO A BODY SHOP. WE HAD THE CAR FOR 8 YEARS AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT THIS ISSUE OCCURRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE DAMAGE WAS ASSESSED BY OUR INSURANCE COMPANY.

THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE HEAT SHIELD HAD DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE BOLTS WERE WORN. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 120,000. A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THE HEAT SHIELD LOCATED ABOVE THE MUFFLER HAD FALLEN OFF AND WAS TRAPPED BETWEEN THE MUFFLER AND THE FLOOR PAN OF THE VEHICLE. THE VIBRATION NOISE HEARD WAS THE HEAT SHIELD RATTLING ON THE MUFFLER ITSELF. UPDATED 06/05/12
AT START UP THE REAR HEIGHT GOES UP AND STAYS UP. TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND THEY MANUALLY BLED THE AIR. SAID SENSOR GO OUT ALL THE TIME AND COST A LOT TO REPLACE. CURRENTLY STAYING LEVEL BUT RIDES A LITTLE TIGHT. DEFINITELY DON'T WANT TO PAY $3000 FOR A FIX.

CIRCA 1 MONTH AGO, WHILE ON LONG DISTANCE TRAVEL (NORTH CAROLINA TO SOUTH CAROLINA) VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL, AND "HEIGHT SUSPENSION" DASH WARNING LIGHT ON, AND IMMEDIATELY TAKEN TO PERFECTION AUTOMOTIVE, SPECIALIZING IN LEXUS REPAIRS, AND INFORMED I MUST TAKE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY TO LEXUS HILTON HEAD ISLAND FOR SAFETY REPAIR ON THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM AGAIN. SNOW CHAINS FOR LEXUS GX470 2004 BROKE AND CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGES. PURCHASED: FEBRUARY, 2010. USED ONLY ONCE BEFORE IT BROKE (3 OF 4) AND DAMAGED VEHICLE. REPORT: CHAINS, FILLED QUESTIONNAIRE, SENT TO MANUFACTURER: SCC, IN CLACKAMAS, OR TO [XXX]. RESULTS OF [XXX]: CHAINS SHOULD HAVE BEEN INSTALLED ON ONLY THE REAR TIRES (THIS IS A 4WD) AND STORE PURCHASED FROM: VULCANTIRE, STATED FRONT AND REAR FOR BETTER VEHICLE CONTROL. ALSO, MR. CAPRINE STATED QUESTIONABLE CLEARANCE WITH GX470, WHEREAS THIS VEHICLE WAS BUILT FOR OFF-ROAD, AND HAS MUCH HIGHER CLEARANCE THAN OTHER VEHICLES. HE STATES THE GX470 HAS A HEIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM AND ADDED TO CAUSED CHAIN FAILURE, WHEREAS THE HEIGHT CONTROL IS MANUALLY ACTIVATED, AND WAS NEVER ACTIVATED SINCE PURCHASE; AND ONLY THE REAR SUSPENSION ELEVATES, WHEREAS 3 OF 4 CHAINS FAILED.
