THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FLETCHER JONES MOTOCARS (3300 JAMBOREE RD, NEWPORT BEACH, CA 92600) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE UNLIMITED MILEAGE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR FUEL LEAKS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 162,000. *TR *TR
AT ABOUT 87,000 MILES, THE CAR IS ESSENTIALLY USELESS BECAUSE OF A KNOWN DEFECT. THE BALANCE SHAFT, ENGINE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND TRANSMISSION CONDUCTOR PLATE NEED TO BE REPLACED. MERCEDES WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT.
ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHEN I WAS DRIVING. DID DIAGNOSTIC AND IT SAYS CAMSHAFT SENSOR PROBLEM. WHICH MEANS IT'S NOT ONLY THE DIESEL MODELS WITH THIS ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES-BENZ E350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL FUEL ODOR COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 139,462.
GAS LEAK AND SMELL FROM THE GAS TANK.
Engine code p0016 and p0017. Defective balance shaft and sprockets
The contact owns a 2007 Mercedes-Benz E350. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the sunroof detached from the vehicle and was manually reattached to the vehicle. The contact had experienced the failure several times. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V954000 (Visibility) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 138,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E-350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD AN ODOR OF FUEL INSIDE. THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ODOR WAS MORE PREVALENT IN AND UNDER THE REAR PASSENGER SEATS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A FIELDS MOTORCARS LOCATED AT (4141 N FLORIDA AVE, LAKE LAND, FL 33805) AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL ODOR MADE HER ILL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 148,000.
TAKATA RECALL VEHICLE AIRMATIC SUSPENSION FAILED AGAIN TODAY DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY...THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. I'M FED UP WITH MERCEDES!
THE ENGINE DIES SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. CAUSE UNKNOWN. CAR WILL RESTART WITHOUT TROUBLE, BUT THE SUDDENNESS OF THE PROBLEM IS REALLY STARTLING AND COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS ON THE FREEWAY OR ON A WINDING ROAD AT SPEED.
STEERING COLUMN WOULD NOT LOCK AND HAD A LOT OF PLAY TURNING BACK AND FORTH. WHEN TRYING TO RESTART ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS NEEDED TO TURN WHEEL BACK AND FORTH UNTIL THE KEY WOULD ENGAGE AND START ENGINE. NO DTC CODES FOR START ISSUE. REPLACED EIS COSTING $1,100 SO CAN ONLY HOPE THIS IS THE ONLY PROBLEM. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 67,600 MILES.

ALSO, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MERCEDES-BENZ OF BAKERSFIELD (5600 GASOLINE ALLEY DR, BAKERSFIELD, CA 93313, (661) 536-5588) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
AFTER FILLING UP THE FUEL TANK THERE IS A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE. I SMELLS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE CAR UNTIL THE CAR REACHES THREE QUARTERS OF A TANK OR LESS. I HAVE READ IN THE MERCEDES BENZ FORUMS THAT ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS! I AM DRIVING A TICKING TIME BOMB.
WHEN FILLING THE TANK, THERE IS AN UNUSUAL SMELL OF GAS THROUGHT THE VEHICLE. WHICH I ATTRIBUTED TO GAS BEING ON MY HAND SINCE I LIVE IN A STATE WHERE MOST GAS STATION ARE SELF SERVICE. LAST WEEK WHILE DRIVING, MY CAR SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WHILE SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. AFTER VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED TO BE A FAULT FUEL PUMP, I STARTED LOOKING ON LINE AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A PERSISTENT PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE OF THE SAME MAKE MODEL AND YEAR, BUT NOT THE VEHICLE ID NUMBER. THE MANUFACTURER DID EXTEND WARRANTY ON SOME VEHICLES, BUT NOT TP ALL THAT HAVE THE SAME ISSUES. I DO NOT SEE HOW ALL VEHICLES COULD EXHIBIT THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT NOT RECEIVED THE SAME COVERAGE. ALTHOUGH MY VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED FOR THE STRICT EMISSION STANDARD THEY HAVE IN CALIFORNIA, I STILL BELIEVE THEY USE THE SAME GAS TANK ON THE SAME MODEL YEAR. TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE, IT WOULD COST OVER 3000 DOLLARS DUE TO THE FUEL TANK AND FUEL PUMP ARE ONE COMPLETE UNIT. WHILE THIS MAY SEEM IRRELEVANT TO SOME, I STARTED ENVISIONING GETTING HIT IN THE REAR OR SOME ONE SMOKING IN OR NEAR MY CAR THAT COULD RESULT IN A MASSIVE FIREBALL OF DESTRUCTION. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS SITUATION BEFORE SOMEONE DIES.
I WISH TO REPORT AN ISSUE WITH THE AIR-MATIC SUSPENSION ON MY 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E550. I HAD THE AIR STRUTS REPLACED A FEW YEARS AGO WITH MERCEDES BENZ PARTS AT THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 16,000 MILES SINCE REPLACEMENT WITHOUT ACCIDENT. THE CAR HAS 36,000 MILES CURRENTLY AND IS DRIVEN EXCLUSIVELY IN TOWN, ON PAVED ROADS, AND GARAGED AT HOME. ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2018 THE STRUT ON THE FRONT LEFT (DRIVER SIDE) CATASTROPHICALLY FAILED CAUSING THE CAR TO PULL HARD TO THE RIGHT AS THE FRONT LEFT DROPPED VIOLENTLY. I HAVE CONTACTED MERCEDES BENZ USA TO REPORT THIS ISSUE FOR THEIR INVESTIGATION. MY CURRENT INFORMATION IS THE STRUT EXPERIENCED AN INTERNAL FAILURE AS REPORTED BY THE MECHANIC, BUT WOULD NEED FURTHER INVESTIGATION TO DETERMINE EXACT ROOT CAUSE. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS PART FAILED SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING AND IF I WERE NOT TRAVELING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED (APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH), THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN FAR WORSE. I FEEL THAT GIVEN THE LOW MILES, NEWNESS OF THE PART, AND SUDDEN FAILURE, THIS COULD BE AN INDICATION OF A MORE SERIOUS ISSUE WITH MANUFACTURE OF THIS COMPONENT AND SHOULD BE FURTHER INVESTIGATED.
VEHICLE STALLS WHILE DRIVING,ABLE TO PULL OVER TO SIDE OF HIGHWAY.ENGINE WILL NOT RESTARTED.TOWED VEHICLE TO MERCEDES DEALER,DIAGNOSIS DISCOVER THAT FUEL PUMP FAILED.FUEL PUMP NEED REPLACEMENT.THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION,VEHICLE CAN STALL AT ANY TIME AND CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENT/CRASH.FIND INFORMATION NHTSA INVESTIGATION EA 13-003 ABOUT FUEL TANK/FUEL SYSTEM THAT RELATED TO THIS CONDITION SINCE FUEL PUMP IS PART OF FUEL TANK AS TOLD BY REPAIR DEALER, BUT DEALER AND MERCEDES MANUFACTURE CUSTOMER SERVICE REFUSE/DECLINE TO PERFORM THIS REPAIR UNDER THIS INVESTIGATION AGREEMENT.CAN WE HAVE SOME ASSISTANCE ON THIS MATTER
HIGHWAY DRIVING, CRUISE CONTROL SET. CRUISE CONTROL BEEPED, DISENGAGED. CAR CONTINUED TO DRIVE NORMALLY UNTIL I HAD TO STOP FOR A LIGHT. WHEN LIGHT CHANGED TO GREEN, THE CAR WOULD BARELY MOVE - HAD NO POWER, EVEN THOUGH THE RPMS SHOWED THE ENGINE RUNNING. FORTUNATELY, I WAS NEAR A GAS STATION AND WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY HAZARDOUS HAD IT OCCURRED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC.... I PULLED OFF THE ROAD, RESTARTED THE CAR AND EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE FINE. BUT THIS CAR BASICALLY LEFT ME SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN APPROACHING ME FROM THE REAR, OR IT WAS IN THE INTERSECTION AT THE TIME.
WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY, ENGINE SUDDENLY REVVED HIGH AND ALMOST RED-LINED ON RPM GAUGE. EXITED FREEWAY AND RPM (WHILE LOWERED) WAS STILL HIGH. A 3RD PARTY MECHANIC DIAGNOSED TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY FAILURE AND ADVISED ON REPLACEMENT. THIS MUST BE A A KNOWN ISSUE BECAUSE MECHANIC ASKED THAT IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE PART A VALID PERSONAL ID MUST BE RECORDED AS PART OF THE PARTS REPLACEMENT PER MERCEDES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES-BENZ E350. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING ROUTINE SERVICE AT A REPAIR SHOP, A FAILURE CODE WAS STORED IN THE COMPUTER PERTAINING TO THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THERE WERE ALSO NO TSBS OR RECALLS PERTAINING TO THE FAILURE. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, GASKETS, LOWER INJECTORS, O RINGS, AND CLEANED THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY FOR CARBON BUILD UP. ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL ANALYSIS WAS ALSO CONDUCTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (WALTERS MERCEDES-BENZ, 3213 ADAMS AUTO CENTER DR., RIVERSIDE, CA) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK AND FUEL PUMP WERE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
MY VEHICLE WEARS THE INSIDES OF FRONT AND BACK TIRES. HAVE DONE WHEEL ALIGNMENTS, TOE-INS AND OTHER REMEDIES. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS IS THAT YOUR TIRES WEAR DOWN PREMATURELY AND THE UNSUSPECTING DRIVER DRIVES AND THE TIRES WEAR DOWN TO THE THREADS AND EXPLODES. THIS IS BECAUSE THEY DID NOT EXPECT THEIR TIRES TO LAST HALF OR LESS OF THE THREAD LIFE DUE TO THIS UNUSUAL WEAR, AND NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. ALSO, BECAUSE OF THE AREA THAT IT WEARS THE AVERAGE PERSON WOULD NOT EVEN NOTICE IT. VEHICLES GOING HIGHWAY SPEEDS (55-70 MPH) COULD HAVE BLOWOUTS AND KILL THEMSELVES AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD.
EVERY TIME I FILL UP MY CAR I GET A STRONG GAS SMELL INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CAR. IT ALSO LEAKS GAS ON THE DRIVER SIDE ON MY DRIVEWAY AT HOME OR WHERE I DRIVE AND PARK FOR ABOUT THE FIRST 50 MILES. THE WAY I HAVE LEARNED TO AVOID THE GAS SMELL IS I ONLY FILL THE TANK UP TO 3/4.

"STRONG SMELL OF GAS ON 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350" WHENEVER I FILL MY CAR WITH GAS, THERE IS A STRONG GAS SMELL ON THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF MY CAR. IT IS SO STRONG THAT IT CAUSES MY ENTIRE GARAGE TO SMELL LIKE GAS. IT IS MORE PRONOUNCED WHEN I FILL MY TANK UP WITH GAS. AS THE TANK EMPTIES WITH DRIVING, THE SMELL IS LESS STRONG. THIS STRONG SMELL OF GAS IS EVERPRESENT WITH A FULL AND PARTIALLY FILLED TANK. THIS HAS OCCURRED FOR SOME TIME NOW. TODAY, I TOOK MY CAR TO THE MERCEDES BENZ ONTARIO DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO ASK FOR REPAIR BASED ON AN EXTENDED RECALL (AND UNLIMITED MILEAGE), THEY SAID THEY WILL NOT REPAIR IT USING THE RECALL, TOO MANY MILES. MY CURRENT MILEAGE IS 178278. MERCEDES NEEDS TO RECALL ALL MODEL YEARS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, AND I QUESTION THE LIABILITY IN THE EVENT ONE OF THESE CARS CATCHES FIRE AS A RESULT OF THE FUEL SYSTEM DEFECT WHICH MERCEDES IS NOT WILLING TO REPAIR.
FUEL ASSEMBLY RECALL. MERCEDES BENZ E350 2007 INSIDE AND OUTSIDE PUNGENT FUEL ODOR WHEN FILLING GAS TANK. WATERY EYES, NAUSEA, HEADACHE AND CHEST CONGESTION WHEN BREATHING IN FUMES.
THERE IS A RECURRING SMELL OF GAS WHEN THE TANK IS FILLED ABOVE 1/2 OR SO. UPON INSPECTION BY A MECHANIC, THE TANK IS METAL AND IS LEAKING IN SPOTS AT THE TOP OF THE TANK. MERCEDES BENZ ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 15 YEARS TO COVER THIS MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR BUT FOR SOME REASON THIS SPECIFIC VIN NUMBER IS NOT BEING HONORED BY MERCEDES. THE MECHANIC SAYS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND MUST BE ADDRESSED AS TIMELY AS POSSIBLE. THERE IS A BULLETIN FROM MERCEDES BENZ DATED JANUARY 2015 THAT SPEAKS SPECIFICALLY TO THIS ISSUE. I HAVE CONTACTED TWO DIFFERENT MERCEDES BENZ SERVICE DEPARTMENTS (DAYTONA BEACH AND NORTH ORLANDO) WHO CONFIRM THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THEY BOTH REFERRED ME TO THE MERCEDES BENZ CUSTOMER SERVICE ASSISTANCE CENTER IN NEW JERSEY. UPON CONTACTING THEM, THEY SAID MY ISSUE HAD TO BE ELEVATED TO A MANAGERIAL LEVEL FOR FOLLOW UP BUT I HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM ANYONE AS OF THIS COMPLAINT. I FIND IT TERRIBLY FRUSTRATING AND CONCERNING THAT A KNOWN PROBLEM LIKE THIS IS NOT BEING MORE AGGRESSIVELY ADDRESSED TO ENSURE MY FAMILY'S SAFETY. IF I WASN'T LIVING THIS SITUATION MYSELF I WOULD NOT BELIEVE IT - THIS IS RIDICULOUS. PLEASE HELP!!!
TRANSMISSION VIOLENTLY DOWNSHIFT SEVERAL GEARS WITHOUT WARNING .THIS CAUSES SKIDDING, THROWING OCCUPANTS VIOLENTLY TOWARD THE WIND SHIELD THIS HAPPENS WHEN AUTO IS IN DRIVE WITH SPEEDS BETWEEN 40-45 MPH. THIS UNEXPECTED LURCHING CAUSES LOSS OF CONTROL ON WET AND DRY PAVEMENT. THIS DEFECT HAS BEEN REPORTED TO MERCEDES BENZ WITH NO CORRECTIVE ACTION OFFERED.

GOOD MORNING, I PURCHASED MY 2007 MERCEDES E350 IN APRIL OF 2016 WITH A 161,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I HAVE NOTICED SEVERAL WEEKS AFTER, THE CAR BEGAN TO SMELL LIKE GASOLINE FUMES AFTER, I FILLED UP. I DECIDED TO PARTIALLY FILL UP DURING THE NEXT VISIT. IT DOES WORK SOMETIMES . HOWEVER, I NOW NOTICE THE PUGENT ODOR HAS BECOME STRONGER. I DRIVE WITH THE BACK WINDOW PARTIALLY DOWN POST FILL-UP TO AVOID BEING OVER-WHELMED BY FUMES.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATORS WERE ILLUMINATED AND THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES, ROTORS, AND BALL JOINTS WERE FAULTY, AND ALL FOUR TIRES WERE WORN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON JULY 4, 2017. LESS THAN THREE YEARS AFTER DRIVING OFF OF THE USED CAR LOT, THE SERPENTINE BELT FRACTURED, THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK, THE BALL JOINTS WERE FAULTY, THE TIRES WERE WORN, AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT WORK. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000.

AS THE CO-OWNER/BUYER OF A 2007 MERCEDES-BENZ E350, I AM VERY DISPLEASED WITH THIS FIRST CAR PURCHASE FROM THE DEALERSHIP IN PLEASANTON. HONESTLY, THE LOOK/MAKE OF THE CAR CAN BE VERY DECEIVING. IN FACT, IT ONLY TOOK ONE DAY TO REALIZE THE CAR SMELLED OF GAS INSIDE THE VEHICLE. ALSO, AFTER TAKING THE BACKSEAT OFF, GAS WAS LEAKING FROM THE FUEL PUMP LOCATED UNDER THE SEAT SO MY DAD AND I DECIDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP IN OAKLAND TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS UNDER THE CAR'S VIN OR IF THERE WAS ANYTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT THAT DIDN'T HAVE TO COST US, BUT SADLY NO. THE THING THAT MAKES THIS SITUATION EVEN MORE WORSE WAS THAT NOT ONCE DID BOTH DEALERSHIPS MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT THE WARRANTY FOR A FUEL TANK REPLACEMENT THAT THIS PARTICULAR MODEL CAME WITH AND THE MAIN COMPLAINT IN ORDER TO HAVE THIS FUEL TANK REPLACEMENT IS A SMELL OF GAS IN THE CABIN, WHICH I AND MY DAD HAVE MENTIONED ABOUT THE SMELL OF GAS INSIDE THE VEHICLE TO BOTH THESE DEALERSHIPS THAT SUPPOSEDLY THEY COULDN'T DO NOTHING ABOUT UNLESS WE PAID THEM MORE THAN HALF THE PRICE WE PAID FOR THE CAR JUST TO GET IT FIXED. THE SADDEST PART OF THIS SITUATION IS THAT WE DIDN'T FIND OUT ABOUT THE WARRANTY UNTIL THE CAR DIED AND COULDN'T CRANK OR START SO I HAD TO DO SOME RESEARCH ON GOOGLE AND FOUND OUT ABOUT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN OAKLAND, BUT THE CAR WAS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY DUE TO THE VEHICLE BEING A PVEZ. WE HAD NO IDEA THE CAR WAS A PVEZ UNTIL THAT PARTICULAR DAY SO THE CAR WAS DEFINITELY NOT COVERED UNDER THE 15 YEAR/UNLIMITED MILE WARRANTY AS I HAD HOPED CONSIDERING THE MERE FACT THAT THE CAR HAD TO DIE AT OVER 150,000 MILES EVEN THOUGH WE HAD KNOWN ABOUT THE PROBLEM WHEN THE CAR WAS AT 139,071 MILES WHEN WE FIRST BOUGHT IT, BUT WE WERE JUST COMPLETELY CLUELESS ABOUT THE WARRANTY.
THE INSULATION ON THE WIRING HARNESSES FOR THE HEADLIGHTS HAS COMPLETELY DISINTEGRATED AND IS SITTING IN A PILE OF BITS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY, LITERALLY LEAVING COMPLETELY BARE WIRES LEADING UP TO THE HEADLAMP SOCKETS. IF THESE WIRES WERE TO TOUCH AND SHORT OUT IT COULD RESULT IN COMPLETE LOSS OF HEADLIGHTS AT NIGHT AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THIS DEFECT WAS DISCOVERED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REPLACE A BURNED OUT LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULB. OTHER SUCH WIRING IN THE VEHICLE MIGHT ALSO HAVE DETERIORATED OR DISINTEGRATED BUT NOT YET BEEN DISCOVERED, WITH ATTENDANT RISKS OF DAMAGE TO OTHER EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE PARTS OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, OR RISK OF FIRE OR CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE WHILE OPERATING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
SPENT OVER $2K JUST ON DIAGNOSIS AND WRONG FIXES. IT STARTED WITH PROBLEMS CRANKING. I REPLACED THE KEY FOB, REPLACED THE BATTERY, REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR, HAVE HAD MERCEDES DIAGNOSE WITH NO ANSWERS. MY USUAL MECHANIC DIAGNOSE WITH NO ANSWERS. A EUROPEAN SPEACIALIST REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND TENSIONER PULLEY. TOOK IT TO A FRIEND AND WE DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE SUNROOF RUNNING DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR INTO THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT. AT THIS POINT VARIOUS PROBLEMS ARE GOING ON. THE WINDOWS, DOOR LOCKS, RADIO, CRANKING, ALL INTERMITTENT BUT NOT ALWAYS AT THE SAME TIME. TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO SAID THE SANS MODULE IS BAD, AT LEAST. AN $800 FIX, THEN THEY COULD MOVE TO THE NEXT MODULE AND THE NEXT. ALSO MAYBE UNRELATED BUT MAYBE NOT. LOW CAR LIGHT CAME ON. ENGINE 'DIED' (VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER) WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED OR WILL JERK DOWN GEARS AND ONLY CONTINUE TO FUNCTION IN DRIVE @ 40MPH OR LOWER. I HAD TO PULL VEHICLE OVER ON SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH NO POWER ASSISTANCE STEERING OR BRAKING. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED WITH NO WARNING AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS CREATING AN IMMENSE SAFETY RISK. MANY OTHERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME ISSUE WITH THIS AND RELATED CARS FOR THIS AND NEARBY MODEL YEARS. LIKE THEM, I WONDER WHY THERE IS NO RECALL. MERCEDES BENZ WILL NOT REPLACE THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS WILLINGLY AND THERE ARE MANY OF THESE CARS DRIVING DOWN OUR HIGHWAYS PLACING NOT ONLY THE PASSENGERS AT RISK BUT OTHER DRIVERS AROUND THEM.
PUNGENT FUEL ODOR AFTER FILLING UP GAS TANK. THE SMELL IS SO STRONG THAT IT CAUSES DRIVERS NAUSEA, HEADACHES, AND DIZZINESS. LOCAL DEALER (RBM OF ALPHARETTA) STATES: "MY TECH FOUND THE FUEL SENDING UNIT SEALING RING TO BE CRACKED AND LEAKING WHEN HE PULLED UP THE BACK SEAT. THEN HE GOT THE VEHICLE UP IN THE AIR AN COULD SEE FUEL RESIDUE ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE FUEL TANK THAT HAD DRIPPED DOWN FROM THE TOP. THE SOLUTION FOR REPAIR IS TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY, REASON FOR THIS IS YOUR VEHICLE IS A PZEV OR PARTIAL ZERO EMISSIONS VEHICLE. THE FUEL TANK AND SENDING UNIT ARE SEALED FROM THE FACTORY FOR ZERO EMISSION STANDARDS. WHEN YOU ARRIVED THIS MORNING I REVIEWED THE VMI FOR YOUR CAR TO SHOW YOU IT WAS NOT PART OF THE WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THE FUEL TANK YOU SPOKE OF. I STILL RAN COVERAGE FOR YOUR VEHICLE TO SEE IF MERCEDES WOULD COVER THE REPAIR BUT IT IS OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY PERIOD FOR THIS REPAIR." I'M NOT SURE OF THE INTEGRITY OF MERCEDES-BENZ, BUT I WILL SOON FIND OUT. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM EXPERIENCED ON THE VEHICLES UNDER THE WARRANTY EXTENSION ISSUED BY MBZ, BUT SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED IN CALIFORNIA (PZEV), THEY ARE DENYING THE CLAIM. I'M ASSUMING THIS IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE REPAIR COST IS MUCH MORE SIGNIFICANT THAN THE TRADITIONAL (NON-PZEV) DESIGN. THE PZEV VEHICLES NEED THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK REPLACED VERSUS THE SIMPLER (AND LESS EXPENSIVE) FUEL SENDING UNIT FOR THE NON-PZEV CARS. OTHERWISE, THIS IS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM...ONLY A DIFFERENT FIX. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE ADMITTED BY MY SERVICE ADVISOR. HE STATED, THAT THE CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IN THE CURRENT STATE. I AM CURRENTLY ESCALATING WITH MBZ LEADERSHIP AND HOPING THEY WILL HOLD INTEGRITY AS A BUSINESS AND DO THE RIGHT THING AND FIX IT UNDER THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY.
THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY. VERY DANGEROUS. IT IS A SEVEN SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BUT SEEMED TO STAY IN A HIGH GEAR SO THE VEHICLE DID NOT ACCELERATE. IT WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. IT OCCURRED ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. THE ME DEALER SAID THE REPAIR WILL BE ABOUT $2300 THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. SAFETY HAZARD.
WHEN GAS TANK IS FILLED THERE IS A VERY STRONG GAS SMELL. THE FUMES FILL UP THE WHOLE GARAGE AND CAN BE SMELLED WHILE DRIVING. ONCE FUEL IS DOWN TO 3/4 TANK THE SMELL GOES AWAY. DEALER SAYS MY CAR IS PZEV AND THEREFORE DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR ACTION PE12001. THEY SAY MY VEHICLE IS EXEMPT FROM THE WARRANTY EXTENSION AFFORDED ALL OTHER CARS IN ITS CLASS. LOOKING FOR RECOURSE AS MY MECHANIC SAYS THE FUEL SYSTEM IS IDENTICAL IN THE PZEV AND NON PZEV VEHICLES.

MERCEDES RECALLED 100% OF E350 WAGON DUE TO A FAULTY SIGNAL WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN UNSAFE SUSPENSION SYSTEM. MY MECHANIC TODAY VERIFIED THIS SIGNAL FAILURE WHILE TRYING TO DIAGNOSE A STIFF UNFORGIVING SUSPENSION IN THE REAR AXEL. MY CALLS TO BOTH MERCEDES AND NHTSA SHOW NO OPEN RECALL. MERCEDES SAYS IT HAD NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY FIXED. PLEASE INCLUDE MY VEHICLE IN THE 100% TO WHICH IT BELONGS AND RECALL IT. SO MECHANIC CHECKED AND SAW PIECES OF WIRE WITHIN THE HEADLIGHT CASING. ELECTRICAL WIRING TO MY HEADLIGHTS IS DISINTEGRATED. SO I ASSUME; THE COMPLETE WIRING THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE IS DISINTEGRATED. SO I BEGIN SEARCHING ONLINE AND READ THE ISSUE WITH MERCEDES USING FAULTY WIRING. THEREFORE; I AM REPORTING THE ISSUE AND WANT SOME TYPE OF SOLUTION.
