I HAVE A 2007 E350. MY GARAGE SMELLS OF FUEL EVERY TIME WHEN I FILL UP THE TANK. THE DEALER MENTIONED THAT THERE IS ISSUE WITH FUEL TANK. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINS OUT THERE BUT MERCEDES WILL NOT MAKE A RECALL AND HANDLE THE REPAIRS. THIS IS NOT A WEAR AND TEAR PROBLEM. THIS IS SHOULD BE A RECALL FROM MERCEDES. SINCE THIS IS KNOWN PROBLEM AND NOT THE FIRST PERSON COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS, MBUSA SHOULD BE PAYING FOR THESE FAILURES. *TR
A STRONG GAS ODOR APPEARED OUTSIDE THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE GAS TANK IS FULL OR NEAR FULL. IT WAS SO STRONG THAT I HAD TO REMOVE IT FROM MY GARAGE DUE TO THE PILOT LIGHT WARNINGS ON MY HOUSE HEATING UNIT AND HOT WATER HEATING UNIT. DEALER REPLACED LEFT FUEL SENDING UNIT AND IT MADE THE ODOR EVEN STRONGER; IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS IS REPORTED ON THE INTERNET BY MANY OWNERS REPEATEDLY TRYING TO FIX THIS UNIT TO NO AVAIL. EXPERTS I'VE TALKED TO SAY IT IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE TANK AND ITS VARIOUS COMPONENTS THAT MB HAS KNOW ABOUT FOR YEARS ORIGINALLY APPEARING IN THE E55 AMG'S. OF COURSE, SINCE THE FUEL SYSTEM IS NOT COMPLETELY CLOSED, IT IS CONSTANTLY RELEASING GAS FUMES INTO THE ATMOSPHERE.
WHILE ENTERING THE FREEWAY, THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED AND FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS STEERED TO THE SHOULDER. THE DASH LIGHTS ALL CHANGED TO RED AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE. AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, IT PERFORMED NORMALLY UNTIL LAST WEEK. THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED THREE TIMES LAST WEEK. AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE CLOSEST NON-DEALER SERVICE CENTER AND A RESET OF THE TRANSMISSION SPEED SENSOR WAS PERFORMED ELECTRONICALLY. I WAS ADVISED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MODEL AND THAT I WOULD NEED A NEW SET OF VALVES, SENSORS, SEALS ETC. *TR
IN REFERENCE TO PE12-001 ONGOING INVESTIGATION FUEL LEAKS. WHEN GAS IS PUT IN CAR, STRONG GASOLINE SMELL INSIDE CABIN. BROUGHT TO ATTENTION TO DEALERS SEVERAL TIMES & WAS ASSURED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. IN MARCH 2011, THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AS GOODWILL GESTURE SINCE COMPLAINTS WERE RECEIVED PRIOR TO WARRANTY EXPIRING. IN APRIL 2012 ADVISED MERCEDES OF FUEL SMELL REMAINED, AT THIS TIME I WAS INFORMED OF A CRACK IN GAS TANK UNDER BACKSEAT. FUEL TANK WAS REPLACED, BROUGHT CAR HOME, AFTER FILLING WITH GAS, ONCE AGAIN STRONG FUEL ODOR BUT ACCOMPANIED BY VISUAL OF FUEL UNDER AUTO. MERCEDES NOW STATED IT WAS DUE TO INSTALLATION ERROR & NOW WAS CORRECTED. I HAVE NOT PICKED UP VEHICLE, DO NOT HAVE FAITH ANOTHER POTENTIAL LIFE THREATENING "ERROR" WILL NOT OCCUR. HOW DO WE KNOW IF THE REPLACEMENT TANK/PUMP DOESN'T HAVE SAME DESIGN FLAW, NOT WORTH MY CHILDREN'S OR MY LIFE TO FIND OUT. *JS
TURNED DRIVERS SEAT HEAT FEATURE ON, AFTER A FEW MINUTES I SMELLED BURNING. MERCEDES JUST REPAIRED A/C (3 VISITS) SO TURNED OFF THE A/C. NEXT THINK I KNOW SMOKE IS COMING FROM DRIVERS SEAT, MY 3YR OLD RIDING IN HER CAR SEAT "INSTALLED" BEHIND ME. HEATER IN DRIVERS SEAT WAS BURNING, WITH THE AIR NO LONGER BLOWING, SMOKE WAS NOW VISIBLE. I HAD TO CROSS 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO PULL OVER. THE "FIRE" BURNED A HOLE THROUGH THE LEATHER SEAT TO MY JEANS LEAVING ME A SLIGHT BURN. CAR TOWED TO MERCEDES. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. SMELLED GAS IN AND AROUND CAR. DEALER FOUND MINOR PURGE LEAK. VEHICLE FAILED FUEL TANK LEAK TEST. GAS IS POOLING IN THE AREA UNDER THE BACK SEAT BEHIND THE DRIVER. SMALL NIPPLE CANNOT BE REPLACED WITHOUT DAMAGE. RECOMMENDED NEW FUEL TANK. FUEL SENDING UNIT IS A DISASTER. SAME TYPE OF SYSTEM THAT WAS IN THE E55 AMG WHICH WAS RECALLED. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. CONTINENTAL PRO 245/40 R18 93V KEEP BLOWING OUT ON ME 5TH TIRE IN LESS THEN 2 YEARS. *TR
THERE IS ALWAYS A STRONG ODOR OF GAS OUTSIDE MY 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350 EACH TIME I FILL THE GAS TANK. I NEVER "TOP OFF" OR OVER-FILL THE GAS TANK. I NEVER SMELL THE GAS ODOR WHILE I AM INSIDE MY CAR WITH THE DOORS CLOSED AND WITH THE WINDOWS UP. I NEVER SEE GAS ON THE GROUND UNDER MY CAR DURING OR AFTER FILLING MY CAR WITH GAS. IT TAKES ABOUT TWO DAYS (ABOUT 100 MILES) FOR THE GAS ODOR TO DISAPPEAR. UNTIL IT DISAPPEARS, THE ODOR IS VERY STRONG WHEN I PARK MY CAR INSIDE MY GARAGE, CAUSING ME TO ALWAYS HAVE TO LEAVE THE GARAGE DOOR UP ABOUT FIVE INCHES AFTER EACH FILL-UP SO THE GAS ODOR CAN ESCAPE THE GARAGE. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE I NOW UNDERSTAND THAT I AM NOT ALONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. IT APPEARS THEIR IS SOME KIND OF DESIGN AND/OR MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. 2007 E-350 MERCEDES BENZ SEDAN 40,000 MILES; HAD TWO BRAKE FAILURES: POPPING SOUND FROM BRAKES AS IF CALIPERS STUCK AND RELEASED; BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR. LITTLE IF ANY BRAKING POWER; BRAKES GENERATE EXCESSIVE HEAT BUT THEN RECOVER TO NORMAL. ON BOTH INCIDENCES (8/31 AND 8/21) MECHANIC COULD NOT REPLICATE DESPITE MULTIPLE TEST DRIVES (IN SHOP 5 DAYS) CAR NOW AGAIN GARAGED. AFRAID TO DRIVE. MB NOT RESPONSIVE. *TR
2007 MERCEDES-BENZ E320. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE ENGINE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC, WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. AFTER THREE DAYS, THE DEALER FINALLY CALLED THE CONSUMER AND INFORMED HIM THE TURBO CAME APART AND FLEW INTO THE ENGINE. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE TO BE REBUILT AT A COST OF $13,000. *JB

MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING WHEN HE SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING AND THEN FELT SOMETHING BURNING, HE PULLED OVER AND JUMPED OUT TO CHECK AND FOUND THE SEAT WARMER HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND BURNED THROUGH THE SEAT, HIS SHIRT AND HAD SLIGHTLY BURNED HIM. *TR
GASOLINE VAPORS FILL CABIN AFTER REFUELING. GASOLINE IS PASSING FROM FUEL SYSTEM TO SOME POINT BELIEVED TO BE BENEATH OR BEHIND REAR SEATS. *TR
DRIVING ON I95 IN WESTPORT CT. EXCELLENT DAYTIME DRIVING CONDITIONS ON SMOOTH, DRY ROAD. SPEED 60-65 MPH. REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE LITERALLY EXPLODED. TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE I DID NOT HIT ANY DEBRIS. NO POTHOLES, BUMPS, ETC. *TR
AIR SUSPENSION FAILED THE SAME DAY THE CAR WAS PURCHASED AND HAD TO BE TOWED. *TR
AFTER GAS TANK IS FILLED FUEL IS FORCED FROM THE TOP OF WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE FUEL SENDING UNIT BELOW THE REAR SEAT. THE FUEL POOLS AND STAINS THE INSULATION AND BOTTOM OF THE SEAT. IT CAUSES GAS VAPORS IN THE CAR FOR WEEKS. SEAT AND PADDING HAVE TO BE PULLED AND ALLOWED TO DRY. EXCESS FUEL HAS TO BE TOWELED FROM THE AREA AROUND THE SENDING UNIT. UNTIL THE TANK EMPTIES SEVERAL GALLONS OF GAS THIS PROCEDURE HAS TO BE REPEATED. THE SMELL OF GASOLINE IN THE AUTO IS UNFORGIVEABLE. I READ WHERE THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH MANY MB'S OF THIS TYPE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH WITH THE GEAR INDICATOR IN DRIVE, THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AS IF IT WAS IN LOW GEAR. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF ENGINE IN ORDER TO RESET THE GEARS. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE ELECTRIC HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT AND 10 MINOR PARTS IN THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN THE FAILURE RECURRED, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED 2 TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DIDN'T PROVIDE A SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,700 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,100.
WHEN POSITIONING THE SUNROOF SWITCH TO CLOSE, THE ROOF RETRACTED ABOUT 75% OF THE WAY AND THEN OPENED ALL THE WAY ONCE AGAIN. HITTING THE SWITCH AGAIN TO CLOSE IT CAUSED THE ROOF TO GO BACK AND FORTH, WHILE NOT CLOSING AT ALL. AFTER ~1 MINUTE OR SO IT FINALLY CLOSED. *TR
HELLO, FOR SEVERAL YEARS THERE HAS BEEN A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE AFTER RE-FUELING. *TR
NO WARNING OF ANY KIND, NOR ANY EVENT OF ANY KIND. ONE MINUTE, EVERYTHING IS FINE. THE NEXT, THE TRANSMISSION FAILS. TRANSMISSION FAILURE HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE PAST 10 MONTHS. CAR IS A 2007 MERCEDES. ON ALL 3 OCCASIONS, I WAS DRIVING ON MULTIPLE LANE INTERSTATE. ONE 2 OF THE INCIDENTS, THE CAR SUDDENLY WENT OUT OF THE DRIVE GEAR INTO WHAT FELT LIKE NEUTRAL. IT STAYED THERE FOR 10 OR 15 SECONDS AND THEN RESUMED IN DRIVE ON IT'S OWN. POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES OF VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. ON THE 3RD INCIDENT, I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT AND WHEN STARTING ON THE GREEN LIGHT, THE CAR WOULD NOT COME OUT OF 1ST GEAR. JUST DROPPED CAR OFF TODAY FOR THIS AND DON'T KNOW RESULTS YET. WHAT WAS DONE TO CORRECT: ON BOTH OF THE FIRST 2 OCCASIONS, SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED. THERE WERE OTHER THINGS DONE WHICH BIZARRELY SOMEHOW RELATE TO THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE NO PARTS. I BELIEVE I DO HAVE THE SERVICE SHEET FROM BOTH OF THE EARLIER INCIDENTS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO INVESTIGATE THE FAILURE AND THEN DROVE TO HIS RESIDENCE. THERE WERE NO FAILURES OR WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 34,000.
HIT A SMALL POT HOLE AND DENTED THE TIRE RIM AND FLATTENED MY TIRE. THIS THE 4TH RIM AND 4TH TIRE REPLACED SINCE MARCH OF 2008. REPLACED THE RIMS AND TIRES AT APPROXIMATELY $1000/RIMTIRE. THESE LOW PROFILE TIRES/RIMS SHOULD NOT BE SOLD. *TR
PURCHASED CAR IN AUGUST 2007, HAVE DRIVEN 40,000 MILES AND HAVE REPLACED 2 STOCK RIMS, 6 AFTER-MARKET RIMS AND FIVE RELATIVELY NEW TIRES DUE TO JUST AVERAGE POTHOLES THAT ANY OTHER CAR WOULD SIMPLY ROLL OVER. PART OF THE PROBLEM IS THE LOW PROFILE TIRES BUT THERE APPEARS TO BE A DEEPER PROBLEM WITH THE SUSPENSION. WHEN THIS CAR HITS A SMALL POTHOLE OR EVEN A DEEP MANHOLE COVER IT TAKES A VERY HARD, TEETH JARRING HIT TO THE FRONT END SUSPENSION. I ALSO DRIVE A COMPETING BRAND 8-CYLINDER SEDAN WHICH IS VERY NEAR TO THIS MERCEDES IN SIZE AND WEIGHT BUT HARDLY FEEL THE BUMPS THAT POUND THE MERCEDES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE CONTACT FELT AN UNUSUAL VIBRATION IN THE WHEELS. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT ALL FOUR WHEELS WERE BENT AT THE INSIDE RIM DUE TO DRIVING OVER POTHOLES AND RAILROAD TRACKS. ALL FOUR WHEELS AND RIMS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO ASSIST WITH ANY REPAIRS. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 14,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,789. UPDATED 04/23/08. *LJ
I NOTICED SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2008 A STRONG GAS ODOR WHEN I FILLED THE TANK. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL FOR A MERCEDES. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT THE ISSUE IS GAS POOLING UNDER THE BACK SEAT WHERE THE GAS TANK IS LOCATED. I AM VERY ALARMED TO FIND THAT THIS IS THE REASON FOR THE STRONG GAS ODOR IN THE VEHICLE CABIN AND INSIDE MY GARAGE. THIS ISSUE IS A DEFINITE SAFETY RISK AND I WAS SHOCKED AT HOW INSENSITIVE AND UNCOOPERATIVE MERCEDES BENZ OF NA WAS WHEN I CONTACTED THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I AM PAYING OUT OF POCKET TO FIX THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER, BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE ON MERCEDES BENZ'S DIME. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT AGAINST MERCEDES FOR THAT REASON AND PLEAD FOR YOUR SUPPORT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, IT SEEMS AS IF THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ENGAGE INTO THE PROPER GEAR. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT IS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS, SHE USUALLY HEARS A LOUD WINDING NOISE. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON FOUR OCCASIONS AND THEY REPROGRAMMED THE PCM AND ADDED TRANSMISSION FLUID. ALL THE REPAIRS HAVE NOT SUFFICIENTLY CORRECTED THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT IS CURRENTLY WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 8,416. WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT, THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE CAR. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT A RUBBER RING INSIDE THE FUEL TANK FAILED. AS OF NOVEMBER 2, 2007, THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT REFUSED TO TAKE POSSESSION. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 2,228.

THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES ON HER VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO BUBBLES ON THE SIDEWALLS. THE TIRES WERE DIAGNOSED BY THE TIRE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE BUBBLING WAS DUE TO THE TIRES BEING LOW PROFILE. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,000. MY 1994 E320 WIRING HARNESS HAS TOTALLY DRIED UP AND CRACKED IN NUMEROUS PLACES. RESULTING IN ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AND MONEY SPENT ON TROUBLE SHOOTING. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE DOORS DO NOT HAVE A CHILD SAFETY LOCKING MECHANISM. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600.
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 07 SEDAN. PLEASE CONTACT ME TO DISCLOSE THE AUTOMAKER. RECENTLY, WHILE AT A RED LIGHT I NOTICED MY 2 YEAR OLD PULLING UP THE LOCK NOB AND THEN THE LEVER TO OPEN THE REAR DOOR! I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED TO ENGAGE THE CHILD PROOF LOCK ON THE REAR DOOR AND COULD NOT FIND THE LEVER. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEN SPOKE WITH 3 SALES PEOPLE, 3 SERVICE PEOPLE INCLUDING SERVICE MANAGERS ETC ETC ... AT 2 DEALERSHIPS. THEY ALL TOLD ME DIFFERENT STORIES. 1) OF COURSE IT HAS THE FEATURE. 2) WE JUST HAVE TO FIND OUT HOW TO ACTIVATE IT. ET ETC ETC.. ALL WERE EVENTUALLY SHOCKED TO FIND OUT THAT THE CAR DID NOT HAVE IT!!!! I CALLED THE US HEADQUARTERS FOR THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY TELL ME THAT THEY DON'T HAVE SUCH A FEATURE AND HAVE NEVER HAD IT IN ANY OF THEIR CARS..! AND I SHOULD DISCIPLINE MY CHILD BETTER. WHY ARE THE DEALERSHIPS THAN NOT AWARE OF THIS AND I ACTUALLY HAD 2 SERVICE TECH'S LOOK FOR THE FUNCTION ALL OVER MY CAR THE OTHER DAY. I HAVE A CAR THAT I CANNOT USE TO TRANSPORT MY CHILDREN BECAUSE OF A FEAR THEY WILL OPEN THE REAR DOOR JUMP OR CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT ON THE ROAD....THIS AUTOMAKER SHOULD NOT BE SELLING AUTOMOBILES IN THIS OR ANY OTHER COUNTRY WITHOUT HAVING A FEATURE THAT ALL OTHER CAR MAKERS HAVE. I NEED YOUR HELP TO NOTIFY OTHER PARENTS AND ANY OTHER GROUPS OF THIS IMPORTANT INFORMATION. NOTICE A GAS SMELL AFTER FILLING UP THE TANK. DID NOT REALLY TOOK IT FOR ANYTHING BUT ON THE SECOND FILL SMELL AGAIN INSIDE THE CAR. I NOW FILL 3/4 AS THE FIX AND NO ISSUES AND CAN NOT SELL IT TO SOMEONE ELSE KNOWING THIS IS A PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE HAS STALLED AT LEAST FOUR TO FIVE TIMES. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF AND THEN RESTART TEN MINUTES LATER. DURING THE FAILURE, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND THE TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT WORK. A VALID VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 4,090 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,800.
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION ON A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E WAS SURGING. WHILE DRIVING AT 15 MPH ONCE REACHING 2000 RPM THE ENGINE WOULD INSTANTANEOUSLY SURGE TO 3000 RPM WITHIN MOMENTS AND THEN RETURNED TO THE PREVIOUS READING. SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD A DIESEL ENGINE THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO LURCH FORWARD, AND SKID ON ICE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD AN INTERNAL MERCEDES BULLETIN THAT STATED THE PROBLEM, BUT THAT THEY CURRENTLY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO REPAIR THE FAILURE. *AK UPDATED 2/22/2007 - THE DEALER INSTALLED A FACTORY UPGRADE WHICH THEY SAID WOULD ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM. *NM
