I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON A FREEWAY TRAVELING AT ABOUT 65MPH. ALL OF SUDDEN, MY CAR STARTING TO SLOW AND DECELERATED WHICH I PULLED MY EHICLE OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE WHERE IT STALLED. THE CAR WOULDN'T START AFTER THAT AND I CAN SMELL THE BURNING FROM THE UNDER THE HOOD. I GOT IT TOWED TO A MERCEDES SPECIALIST SHOP. THE SHOP REPORTED THAT THERE WAS A FIRE INSIDE THE AIR INTAKE MANIFOLD THAT CAUSED DAMAGE TO OTHER COMPONENTS AS WELL WHICH WAS VERY UNUSUAL. THIS MANIFOLD COMPONENT WAS ALL BURNED AND MELTED INSIDE INCLUDING OTHER SURROUNDING COMPONENTS. I CONSULTED WITH THE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP WHICH THEY STATED THIS NEVER HAPPEN TO ANY MERCEDES MODELS SO I THINK THIS IS A DEFECT AND A SAFETY HAZARD. THIS IS ONLY A 5 YEAR OLD CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED PURCHASE MADE FROM THE DEALER 3 YEARS AGO WHEN VEHICLE HAD ONLY 38,000 MILES ON IT. UNFORTUNATELY, MY WARRANTLY JUST EXPIRED 5 MONTHS AGO. AT THIS POINT, THE DAMAGE SO FAR EXCEEDED $4,000 TO REPAIR AND THE DEALERSHIP WON'T DO OFFER ANY GOODWILL REPAIR ON IT. LUCKILY FOR ME I WAS NOT INJURE FROM THIS INCIDENT BUT IT MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY IF IT HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE. *TR
FIRST NOTICED WHEN CAR WAS PARKED, ONCE I PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY. I GOT OUT AND SMELLED A REALLY STRONG GASOLINE ODOR. IT DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE LEAKING GAS ON THE GROUND. THE GASOLINE ODOR WAS STRONGER WHEN THE GAS TANK WAS FULL. ONCE THE TANK GOT DOWN TO 1/2 - 3/4 FULL THE ODOR WAS LESS PROMINENT. NOW I NEVER FILL MY TANK TO FULL BECAUSE THE SMELL IS OVERWHELMING. THERE AREN'T ANY INDICATOR LIGHTS THAT COME ON. *TR
I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE CAR THE DAY BEFORE (APRIL 28, 2012). WHEN I FILLED THE FUEL TANK, I NOTICE A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE. THIS HAS OCCURRED EVERY TIME I FILL THE CAR WITH FUEL. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A FUEL INJECTOR LEAKING DOWN AND SOMETHING I WOULD HAVE TO ADDRESS IN THE NEAR FUTURE. HOWEVER, LAST WEEK I WENT TO DRIVE THE CAR AFTER I HAD JUST FILLED THE TANK WITH FUEL. THE CAR WAS IN MY GARAGE AND THE SMELL OF GASOLINE WAS VERY STRONG. I NOTICED A PUDDLE OF FLUID IN FRONT OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE. MY FIRST REACTION WAS IT WAS CONDENSATION FROM THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. I BENT DOWN TO LOOK AT IT AND THEN I NOTICE A SEPARATE CONDENSATION TAIL COMING FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE CAR. I SAMPLED THE FLUID STREAM FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE CAR AND INDEED IT WAS WATER. HOWEVER WHEN I LOOKED AT THE OTHER PUDDLE, I NOTICE A CONSTANT AND RAPID DRIP COMING FROM THE SHIELD UNDER THE GAS TANK. WHEN I SAMPLED THE PUDDLE IT WAS PURE GASOLINE. THIS WAS MOST DISCONCERTING AS THIS FUEL LEAK IS VERY CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST AND THE BRAKES. EITHER ONE OF WHICH COULD IGNITE THE FUEL. I AM A MECHANICAL ENGINEER WITH CONSIDERABLE AUTO RACING EXPERIENCE, SO I KNOW HOW DANGEROUS THIS CAN BE. I CALLED MERCEDES BENZ OF SUGAR LAND ON MONDAY (11/12/12) AND TALKED TO A SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE. I TOLD HIM OF THE FUEL LEAK AND HE TOLD ME THERE WAS NO REPORTED ISSUES AND NO SERVICE BULLETINS FOR SUCH A PROBLEM. I WAS ALSO TOLD TO BRING THE CAR IN AND THEY WOULD REPAIR IT AT MY EXPENSE. HAVING PAID MY WAY THROUGH MY FIRST DEGREE AS A MECHANIC AS WELL AS DESIGNING RACING EQUIPMENT FOR FORD MOTOR COMPANY, I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AS PART OF THE EMISSION SYSTEM. THIS IS OF COURSE SECONDARY AND IN ADDITION TO THE OBVIOUS SAFETY HAZARD THIS CONDITION PRESENTS. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 MERCEDES E350. I FILLED UP THE GAS TANK AND THE NEXT MORNING, AFTER STORING THE CAR IN MY GARAGE, THERE WAS A STRONG ODOR OF GAS IN THE GARAGE. I STARTED TO GOOGLE THIS TO SEE IF ANYONE HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I NOTICED THAT OTHER CAR OTHER HAD BEEN HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. SOME REPORTED GAS TANK LEAKS AMONG OTHER ISSUES SUCH AS VENT VALVES AMONG OTHER THINGS. I DID NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT MY ISSUE THINKING THAT IT WAS NOTHING, BUT SINCE APRIL 2012, AFTER FILL UPS, THE SAME THING WOULD HAPPEN. THE ODOR WOULD GO AWAY ONCE 1/4 TO 1/2 OF THE TANK OF GAS WAS USED. TODAY, JANUARY 2013, I LOOKED UNDER THE CAR, DRIVER SIDE AND NOTICED THAT THE GAS TANK WAS WET FROM GAS LEAK. I AM SURPRISED AND DISAPPOINTED THAT THIS VEHICLE WOULD HAVE THIS KIND OF ISSUES AND THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE, SINCE IT APPEARS THAT OTHER OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS. I HOPE THAT THIS ISSUED CAN BE ADDRESSED BY THE NHTSA AND HELP OWNERS AS THIS IS A HAZARDOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS THERE COULD BE SOME SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES AND INJURIES IF NOT ADDRESSED. *TR
THIS IS IN REFERENCE TO NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE12001. MANY OWNERS OF W211 MERCEDES PRODUCTS (E-CLASS, MODEL YEARS 2003-2009) REPORT FUEL LEAKS AND STRONG FUEL FUMES AFTER A FILLING THE TANK. I AM ALSO EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE, WITH THE STRONGEST GASOLINE SMELL OCCURRING AROUND THE DRIVER'S-SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL. THIS ISSUE IS REPORTEDLY WITH EITHER THE FILLER TUBE, THE GASOLINE TANK, OR A COMBINATION OF BOTH PARTS. MANY OWNERS HAVE FIXED THEIR ISSUES BY REPLACING BOTH THE FILLER TUBE AND THE TANK AT A COST OF AROUND $2000, OR LESS DEPENDING ON THE OWNER'S SUCCESS IN NEGOTIATING DEALER PARTICIPATION IN COST. I AM HOLDING OFF REPAIRING THIS ISSUE TO SEE IF MERCEDES BENZ INITIATES A RECALL BASED ON NHTSA RECOMMENDATIONS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK VIOLENTLY WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO SECOND GEAR AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION BUT THEY PROVIDED NOT ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND FILED A COMPLAINT AND STATING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
AFTER REFUELING, AN GASOLINE ORDER WOULD OCCUR. HAD TO REPLACE FUEL BOWLS UNDER BACK SEAT AT A COST OF OVER $1000.00. SERIOUS PROBLEM AS GAS WAS LEAKING FROM THE TWO BOWLS UNDER THE BACK SEAT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E550. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED A STRONG GASOLINE FUEL SMELL AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK SEALS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE CONTACT NOTICED A FUEL LEAK AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E320. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE SHIFTING GEARS, THE GEAR SHIFTER JERKED AND COULD NOT BE SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. THE CONTACT TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND WAS ABLE TO SHIFT THE GEAR INTO REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED, WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED DUE TO DEFECTIVE MATERIAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. THE CONTACT STATED THE DRIVERS SEAT EMITTED A BURNING ODOR, AND THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT IT HAD A HOLE IN IT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE WIRES. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A BURN ON THE LEFT LEG. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,160.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 72 MPH, THE DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE BLEW, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND REPLACED THE FAILED TIRE WITH THE SPARE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED DUE TO THE MILEAGE OF THE TIRE BEING OVER 12,000. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE OTHER TIRES HAVE CAUSED PROBLEMS IN THE PAST AS WELL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,778
I BOUGHT THIS CAR ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO. THIS CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED RELIGIOUSLY AT THE LOCAL MERCEDES DEALER AND THERE HAS BEEN "NO KNOW PROBLEMS". ON A THURSDAY I NOTICED THE CAR SHIFTING A LITTLE FUNNY SO I HAD MY HUSBAND DRIVE IT JUST TO BE SURE. HE NOTICED THE SAME ERRATIC SHIFTING. ON SATURDAY I DROPPED THE CAR OFF AT THE MERCEDES DEALER (SAME DEALER IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED AT). WHEN I PARKED THE CAR I WANTED TO CHECK EACH GEAR JUST TO MAKE SURE AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW...IT WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO REVERSE. LATER THAT DAY I HAD TO CALL MERCEDES TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH THE CAR AND THEY PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THE CAR HAD METAL SHAVINGS IN THE TRANSMISSION PAN AND WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE QUOTE FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION IS $5800!!! I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THE CAR DID NOT GIVE ME ANY WARNING NOR AN INDICATOR LIGHT. THE CAR ONLY HAS 60K MILES ON IT AND IN NO WAY SHOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. ALSO, KEEP IN MIND THE TRANSMISSION WAS SERVICED AT THIS SAME MERCEDES DEALER AT 39K MILES. SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT AND I WANT ANSWERS. I AM COMPLETELY SHOCKED AND SO UPSET. *TR
4 BENT WHEELS WITH NO MAJOR ACCIDENT OR POT HOLE RUN OVER. COST A LOT TO FIX, PUT WEAR ON MY TIRES. SHOULD NOT HAVE SUCH WEAK WHEELS ON A CAR. ALL OF THEM WERE BENT. *TR
SEVERAL TAIL LAMPS QUIT WORKING. I HAD A WARNING ON THE CAR DISPLAY LISTING NUMEROUS LIGHTS ON THE TRUNK INOPERATIVE. THE LICENSE PLATE LAMP, 3RD BRAKE LIGHT, AND THE AUTO OPEN AND CLOSE OF THE TRUNK WERE INOPERATIVE. ALSO, THE EMERGENCY TRUNK RELEASE FUNCTION INSIDE THE TRUNK WOULD NOT LIGHT UP AND WOULD NOT OPEN THE TRUNK. I SEARCHED A MB WEB FORUM TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE ARE NUMEROUS CARS FROM SEVERAL YEAR GROUPS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I TRACED THE PROBLEM TO 1 BROKEN WIRE IN A WIRING BUNDLE ATTACHED TO THE LEFT HINGE OF THE TRUNK. IT APPEARS THAT THE DESIGN AND PLACEMENT OF THIS WIRING BUNDLE IS CAUSING THE WIRING BUNDLE TO FLEX AND OVER TIME, WITH THE OPENING AND CLOSING OF THE TRUNK, THE WIRES ARE BREAKING. SINCE I HAD REDUCED CAPABILITY IN BRAKE LIGHTS, I ACCOMPLISHED THE FIX MYSELF TO REPAIR THE BROKEN WIRE. THIS FIX ONLY LASTED SEVERAL MONTHS BEFORE THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I HAVE NOW "FIXED" IT MYSELF 3 TIMES. I HAVE MY CAR AT THE MERCEDES BENZ DEALER CURRENTLY AND MENTIONED THE PROBLEM TO THEM. THEY ARE AWARE OF IT AND WANT TO CHARGE ME TO FIX IT. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A COVERED SERVICE BULLETIN SINCE IT IS HAPPENING TO NUMEROUS CARS NOW. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE LOCATION AND PLACEMENT OF THIS WIRING BUNDLE AND COULD LEAD UNEXPECTEDLY LOSING SOME, IF NOT ALL, BRAKE LIGHTS. ALSO, IF SOMEONE GETS LOCKED IN THE TRUNK AND THE WIRE IS BROKEN, THEY HAVE NO WAY OF OPENING THE TRUNK. *TR
CAR BEGAN SMELLING OF RAW FUEL AFTER BEING FILLED UP. FOUND THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT WAS LEAKING FUEL OUT OF THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. A PUDDLE OF FUEL WAS VISIBLE ON TOP OF THE SENDING UNIT AND WAS LEAKING ONTO THE GROUND. THIS POSED A SIGNIFICANT FIRE RISK AND THE CAR WAS MOVED OUTSIDE. I HAVE CONTACTED MBUSA AND THEY HAVE OFFERED NO HELP, SAYING THIS ISN'T A KNOWN ISSUE. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE I HAVE FOUND IT IS WIDESPREAD AND AFFECTS MULTIPLE MODELS. WE CAN NO LONGER FILL THE FUEL TANK WITHOUT HAVING A PUDDLE OF FUEL LEFT UNDER THE CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONE HOUR AFTER REFUELING, A STRONG GASOLINE FUEL ODOR WOULD EMIT INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE FUEL TANK LEVEL WAS HALF FULL OR GREATER. A CERTIFIED MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE COULD HAVE POSSIBLY BEEN RELATED TO THE FUEL TANK DELIVERY. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR A SECOND OPINION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
FUEL LEAK IN THE SENDING UNITS, PUMPS AND GAS TANK. INSIDE OF CAR SMELLS LIKE RAW FUEL. *TR
GASOLINE ODOR WAS SMELLED IN/OUT AFTER FILLING UP. FOUND GAS-LEAK BENEATH DRIVER'S REAR SEAT, ON TOP OF GAS TANK, INSIDE THE CABIN. ALSO FOUND GAS DROPS ON GARAGE FLOOR. *TR
AFTER NORMAL DRIVING, A SLIGHT SHAKE OCCURRED AROUND 80,000 MILES. I TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP AND THEY REPORTED 4 BENT RIMS (2 BEING DANGEROUSLY BAD). I HAD THE WHEELS STRAIGHTENED, AND I FOUND OUT THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD ONE WHEEL WELDED, SO THIS ISSUE WAS PRESENT BEFORE I BOUGHT THE CAR. WHILE DOING RESEARCH ONLINE, THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF WHEEL COMPLAINTS, PARTICULARLY ON THE E-CLASS. BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY VARIATIONS OF THE MODEL, I BELIEVE THAT NHTSA IS OVERLOOKING THE ISSUE BECAUSE OF THE WAY COMPLAINTS ARE ENTERED BY EXACT MODEL (EVEN THOUGH THE WHEELS THEY USE IS THE SAME ACROSS). *TR
THE VEHICLE INVOLVED WAS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. PREMATURE WEAR ON THE INSIDE CORNER OF MY TIRES. THIS WAS ULTIMATELY DISCOVERED ON ALL FOUR TIRES. THIS LEAD TO BELT SEPARATION ON ALL TIRES AND A LOST OF BELTING ON THE LEFT FRONT OF THE CAR THAT CAUSED DRIVER SURPRISE THAT DEMANDED A DRAMATIC EMERGENCY STOP. THIS EXPOSED ME TO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHILE PULLING OVER IN A SHOCKED AND CONCERNED STATE. THESE TIRES WERE RECOMMENDED FOR MY CAR BY THE RETAILER AND MET BOTH THE SPEED RATING AND PERFORMANCE REQUIRED. HOWEVER, I THERE APPEAR TO BE A VEHICLE MANUFACTURER DEFECT WITH THE ALIGNMENT COMPONENTS. NO TIRES APPEAR TO HOLD UP TO THE CHALLENGING DEMANDS OF THIS APPLICATION. THIS FAILURE IS DANGEROUS. HAD IT HAPPENED AT NIGHT OR ON A WET SURFACE, THE CONSEQUENCES WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE SEVERE. NOTE: THIS WAS ON A CAR THAT WAS FULLY IN ALIGNMENT, WITH FACTORY WHEELS AND SUSPENSION. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN ONLY AS A COMMUTER. NO RACING OR OTHER EXTREME DRIVING. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AROUND 9/10/11 WITH FAIRLY NEW TIRES. THE 1ST TIME THIS ISSUED OCCURRED TO WAS WITH THE TWO FRONT TIRES AROUND 12/15/2011. THE 2ND TIME THIS ISSUE HAPPENED WAS WITH THE TWO REAR TIRES AROUND 4/13/12. I JUST REPLACED THE TWO FRONT TIRES (40K WARRANTY TIRES) AGAIN WITH ONLY 28K MILES ON THEM. THE 3RD TIME, THE SAME TIRE RETAILER INFORMED ME HE COULD NOT REPLACE MY TIRES FREE BECAUSE THEY WERE WORN IMPROPERLY ON THE INSIDE LIKE AN ALIGNMENT ISSUE. I INFORMED HIM THAT THE CAR HAD AN ALIGNMENT ABOUT 10 MONTHS AGO AND THE TIRES SHOULD NOT BE DOWN TO THE BELTS ALREADY. ON 7/16/13, I HAD TO BUY NEW TIRES AND ANOTHER 4-WHEEL ALIGNMENT. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE DESIGN OR MECHANICAL SUSPENSION ISSUE. THIS IS COSTLY AND NOT RIGHT. I THINK MB SHOULD INVESTIGATE AND RECALL TO FIX THE MANUFACTURER DEFECT. *TR
STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE IN THE CABIN AFTER FUELING VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FUEL FUMES WERE EMITTED INSTO THE VEHICLE EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING DUE TO A CRACK. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
AFTER FILLING THE FUEL TANK (WITHOUT TOPPING-OFF AND WITHOUT ANY SPILLAGE) AND ARRIVING AT NEXT DESTINATION, THERE IS A STRONG GASOLINE ODOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS THE CAMSHAFT ADJUSTERS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED. AGAIN, SEEMS TO BE ISSUES WITH NUMEROUS OTHER OWNERS. 2007 VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES. UPON FILLING FUEL TANK, VEHICLE EMITS GAS ODOR NEAR TANK LOCATION (REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL). THIS CONTINUES UNTIL LEVEL IN FUEL TANK IS BELOW APPROX. 3/4 FULL. DEALER INITIALLY REPLACED SEALS ON FUEL TANK. PROBLEM CONTINUED AND THEY ARE NOW REPLACING THE FUEL SENDING UNITS. BASED ON WHAT I HAVE SEEN ON VARIOUS DISCUSSIONS AND FORUMS, THIS SEEMS TO BE A CONSISTENT, RECURRING ISSUE AND ONE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER. GAS POOLING ON TOP OF THE TANK BEHIND THE REAR SEAT AND THE RELATED EMISSION OF FUMES IS NOT ACCEPTABLE NOR SAFE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EMITTED A STRONG GASOLINE FUEL ODOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND INSPECTED. THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED AT THE FUEL TANK SEAL. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL TANK SEAL BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE CONTACT NOTICED A NOISE IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT FUEL HAD LEAKED ON THE REAR SEATS AND THE FUEL LINING INJECTOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE REPLACEMENT FUEL LINES COULD POSSIBLY HAVE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
I BEGAN NOTICING A STRONG SMELL OF GAS FROM INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY REMOVED THE REAR SEATS AND ACCESS PANEL TO THE FUEL SENDING UNITS. THEY FOUND FUEL LEAKING FROM THE FUEL SENDING UNIT WITH FUEL LEVEL SENSOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. IT WAS LEAKING FROM THE UNIT ITSELF NOT THE SEAL RING. DAMAGE CODE 047006767. DEALER INDICATED IT WAS NECESSARY TO REPLACE. REPLACED FUEL SENDING UNIT WITH FUEL LEVEL SENSOR AND REPLACED WITH NEW, RECONNECTED LINES AND CONNECTORS. REINSTALLED ALL COMPONENTS, ADDED FUEL BACK IN THE TANK AND CHECK FOR LEAKS FROM SENDING UNIT. THEY DETERMINED THE UNIT WAS NOT LEAKING ONCE REPAIRED. FLASH FORWARD TO 7/24/14 AND I HAVE ISSUES AGAIN WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM. COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM WERE REPLACED AGAIN AT A COST OF $1,752.16. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE. NORMAL FILL UP OF GAS TANK CAUSES FUEL TO LEAK OUT OF TOP OF SENDING UNIT. THE SEAM JUST BELOW THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION POWERING THE UNITS MOTOR SEEMS TO BE WEAKLY AND/OR IMPROPERLY JOINED, ALLOWING RAW GAS TO LEAK OUT AND POOL INTO A SMALL COMPARTMENT UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR SEAT. AFTER REMOVING THE TOP ACCESS PANEL UNDER THE SEAT I FOUND (ROUGH ESTIMATE) A MEASURING CUP OF GASOLINE THAT WAS POOLED AROUND THE BASE OF THE SENDING UNIT. SO MUCH FUEL HAD LEAKED THAT IT HAD OVERFLOWED THE PUMPS RECESS AND HAD POOLED INTO THE SURROUNDING (RUBBER/PLASTIC) RECESS THAT SEALS THE TOP OF THE SENDING UNIT FROM THE OUTSIDE. *TR

AFTER PURCHASING THIS CAR IN MAY 2011 FROM A USED CAR DEALER, AFTER EVERY REFUELING WITH FILLING THE TANK THERE WAS A POWERFUL SMELL OF GASOLINE AS IF IT HAD BEEN SPILLED. HE REPLACED THE GASKET AND STILL THE GAS SMELL CONTINUED. 02/2015 TOOK CAR TO MERCEDES WHERE I WAS TOLD BASED ON MY VIN THAT THE FUEL TANK REPLACEMENT WAS COVERED UNDER AN "EXTENDED WARRANTY" THAT MERCEDES BENZ HAD OFFERED. HOWEVER, ONCE THE CAR WAS REVIEWED THEY THEN STATED THAT THIS WARRANTY WAS ONLY FOR "PLASTIC TANKS" WHICH MINE WAS NOT AND THE COST TO REPLACE WOULD BE $2600 WHICH WAS WITH A DISCOUNT! I HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ONLY TO FIND THAT THE FUEL SENDING UNIT IS LEAKING UNDER REAR SEAT/TRUNK AREA AND THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDS FRONT BRAKE PADS REPLACED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ E350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER REFUELING, THERE WAS A STRONG GASOLINE FUEL ODOR EMITTED FROM THE VEHICLE WHEN LEFT IN THE CONTACT'S GARAGE OVERNIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP LIGHT, THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS AUTOMATICALLY. THE CAR SEEMS TO BE STUCK IN 1ST GEAR OR NEUTRAL AS I COULD NOT GET PAST 20MPH WITHOUT MAXING OUT MY RPM'S. I HAD TO DRIVE 3 MILES GOING 20MPH TO GET SOMEWHERE SO I COULD GET TOWED. AFTER TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE SITUATION. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN A WEEK'S TIME. THIS IS A MERCEDES 2007 E350. I HAVE SEEN OTHER POSTS ABOUT THIS EXACT SAME THING WITH NO SOLUTION. THE DEALERSHIP SAID TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE CAR. WHAT!!! WHAT KIND OF FIX IS THAT? I DO THAT TO MY HOME PC...I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO THAT FOR MY CAR! I BOUGHT THIS CAR LESS THAN 30 DAYS AGO...AND THE DEALERSHIP DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT ANY PART OF IT. I HAVEN'T EVEN MADE THE FIRST PAYMENT OR RECEIVED MY PERMANENT TAGS YET. *TR

AFTER REFUELING THERE WAS AND CONTINUES TO BE A STRONG SMELL OF GAS INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A "CLICKING" NOISE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT THE BALANCE SHAFT GEAR WAS COMPLETELY DETERIORATED. THEY DESCRIBED THE GEAR AS "CHEWED UP"! I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO PAY $4,000.00 TO GET THE ENGINE REMOVED FROM MY CAR AND HAVE THE BALANCE SHAFT REPLACED. *TR
