MY 2009 MERCURY MARINER (HAS 56,000 MILES), WITHOUT ANY WARNING, IT JUST SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. HAS HAPPENED TWICE. WAS ABLE TO GET THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AT ALL. CAR IS AT DEALERSHIP NOW TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT.
VEHICLE RANDOMLY AND SUDDENLY LOSES POWER ON HIGHWAY. DASHBOARD LIGHTS UP, HAVE TO PULL OFF ROAD TURN OFF AND WAIT A SHORT TIME THEN RESUMES NORMALLY. POSSIBLY THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM.
MERCURY MARINER (2009) V6 4WD. HAS STALLED TWICE. 1. WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH. IT STALLED AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART ONCE THE VEHICLE STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WE TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALER AND THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. 2. STALLED WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP. THIS WAS AFTER THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED ON 10/13/2017. ONLY DRIVEN ABOUT 500 MILES. BOTH TIMES VEHICLE WAS GOING DOWN A COUNTRY ROAD.

POWER OF VEHICLE DRASTICALLY DECREASED WHILE DRIVING DOWN SECONDARY ROAD. HAD JUST ENOUGH POWER TO PULL OVER TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. PUSHED DOWN ACCELERATOR IN PARK AND NEUTRAL BUT NO POWER. TURNED OFF. RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL DRIVING. SUSPECT ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. THE FORD DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPLACE WITHOUT A DIAGNOSTIC FEE BECAUSE THEY STATE IT IS NOT A RECALL, ALTHOUGH AN INTERNAL VEHICLE HEALTH REPORT STATES "THERE ARE RECALLS FOR YOUR 2009 MERCURY MARINER AT THIS TIME" NOTICE # 13N03 ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY EXTENDED COVERAGE I BELIEVE USING THE WORD RECALL CONSTITUTES MISREPRESENTATION WHEN IN FACT FORD MOTOR COMPANY STATES IT IS JUST A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM TO ALLEVIATE THEM FROM COSTS AND ANY WRONG DOING. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SAFETY CONCERN.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH ON THE FREEWAY ON 8/11/14. NO SIGNS OF MALFUNCTION INITIALLY. LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF ON 8/13/14. TOOK MARINER TO FIRESTONE AUTO CARE TO DIAGNOSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS P0022 - VCT SOLENOIDS, BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING FINE. THEY RESET THE COMPUTER AND TOLD ME THE NEXT TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON TO TAKE IT INTO A DEALERSHIP. SO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES BACK ON BY 8/17/14. STARTED NOTICING SHUTTERING BETWEEN 50-60 MPH ON 8/22/14. TOOK CAR INTO DEALERSHIP ON 8/27/14. WAS TOLD THAT THE VCT SOLENOIDS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT APPROX. $620 AND THIS CAR ONLY HAS 29K MILES ON IT AND OF COURSE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON REPLACING THE VCT SOLENOIDS BUT OF COURSE NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED AND I SHOULD RECEIVE REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS REPAIR FOR SOMETHING THAT IS OBVIOUSLY A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH MARINERS AND ESCAPES FROM 2009-2011. *TR

FIVE MINUTES LATER, THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER APPROXIMATELY FIFTEEN MINUTES. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.

10/12/13 - TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 70MPH THE ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT IT IN PARK, WAITED A MINUTE OR TWO, THEN STARTED THE CAR. IT RAN WITHOUT INCIDENT FOR 20 MINUTES UNTIL I REACHED HOME. 10/15/13 TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY 60MPH THE ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND TRIED TO START IT, BUT IT WOULD NOT RESPOND. I COASTED ACROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT IT IN PARK, WAITED A MINUTE OR TWO, THEN STARTED THE CAR. IT RAN WITHOUT INCIDENT FOR 20 MINUTES UNTIL I REACHED HOME. 10/17/13 FORD DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. NOTHING IN THE CODES. REPLACED THE RELAY SWITCH 10/18/13 TRAVELING ON MARKET STREET IN YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO AT A SPEED OF 30MPH THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. I COASTED IN TO THE CENTER TURN LANE, PUT IT IN PARK, WAITED A MINUTE AND STARTED THE CAR. THE VEHICLE IS RIDING MORE ROUGH AND SPUTTERS NOW AND THEN. DROVE FOR 10 MINUTES IN CITY TRAFFIC WITHOUT INCIDENT 10/18/13 WHILE DRIVING 45MPH IN RURAL AREA THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND STARTED THE ENGINE. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I NOTICE A YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT ON IN THE LOWER LEFT PORTION OF MY DASHBOARD. CAR RIDES ROUGH AND SPUTTERS A BIT. AFTER ALL THESE MULTIPLE INCIDENTS IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME I REFUSE TO DRIVE THE CAR. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND IS NOT DEPENDABLE. THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF WITHOUT WARNING AT ALL SPEEDS, BUT ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT WARNING IS UNACCEPTABLE. *TR
CAR WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" TWICE WITHIN A 3 MILE SPAN WHILE DOING APPROX 50MPH ON A COUNTRY ROAD. BOTH TIMES, STOPPING AND RESTARTING THE ENGINE ALLOWED NORMAL OPERATION. 5 DAYS PRIOR, THE CAR ALSO STALLED TWICE. ONCE WHILE PRESSING THE GAS FROM A COMPLETE STOP, THE OTHER WHILE PRESSING THE GAS JUST BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP (TRAFFIC SIGNAL WENT FROM RED TO GREEN). THIS IS HAPPENING LESS THAN 10 DAYS AFTER I HAD VCT SOLENOIDS REPLACED THAT WERE CAUSING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON. *TR
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH IN METRO DC RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER (ENGINE STILL RUNNING BUT NO ACCELERATION). I HAD TO CROSS OVER 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO REACH THE SHOULDER (VERY DANGEROUS). I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED (SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS "FLOODED"). I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR EVALUATION TODAY, BUT CAME ACROSS MANY COMMON COMPLAINTS ONLINE REGARDING THIS EXACT ISSUE AND ALSO LEARNED THAT NHTSA WAS CONDUCTING AN INVESTIGATION. I JUST WANTED TO ADD MY CASE TO THIS ISSUE. THIS COULD BE A VERY SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM AS IT HAPPENS AT HIGH SPEEDS AND THE VEHICLE SLOWS RAPIDLY.

I CALLED THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR, BENSON LINCOLN MERCURY, IN PITTSBURGH, AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT COULD BE MAKING IT STOP RUNNING. MY HUSBAND WORKS IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY AND IT HAPPENED WHEN HE WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. HE PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER AND RECEIVED THE CODE, P-2111 "THROTTLE ACTUATOR SYSTEM STUCK OPEN." IT SEEMS THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE TOO. IN APRIL, THE DEALERSHIP PUT A COMPUTER "UPDATE" IN MY CAR. COULD THIS HAVE AN IMPACT. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR A PART FOR MY CAR, WHEN THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT OF WHICH THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE. *TR

MY VEHICLE STARTED LEAKING FLUORESCENT OIL FROM BEHIND THE RADIATOR. APPARENTLY, IT'S THE CONDENSER. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE RADIATOR LINES RUN THROUGH THE SAME SYSTEM, AND THAT IF IT IS NOT REPAIRED MY TRANSMISSION WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL. THIS FAILURE WAS EXPLAINED TO BE THE TRANSMISSION LOCKING UP, AND THEY SAID IF I'M GOING OVER ABOUT 30 MPH IT WILL BE VERY DANGEROUS. I AM ABOUT 2,000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY, AND THE EMAILS I HAVE SENT TO FORD ONLY GET A RESPONSE THAT THEY WILL BE HAPPY TO TAKE MY MONEY AND FIX IT. WITHIN A FEW MONTHS OF BUYING IT, THE INTAKE MANIFOLD HAD TO BE REMOVED TO REPAIR SOMETHING. THEN, A TRANSMISSION SOLENOID. THEN, IT WAS SHIFTING FUNNY -BECAUSE IT HAD VERY LITTLE FLUID-NOONE COULD EXPLAIN WHY. THE VIBRATION IN THE GAS PEDAL AT 42 MPH "COULD NOT BE VERIFIED. " THE MANUFACTURER WAS APPARENTLY OUT OF SATELLITE RECEIVERS, SO THEY JUST DIDN'T PUT ONE IN...THE LACK OF QUALITY OVERALL PROVES THAT THE LENGTH OF THE WARRANTY IS TO PREVENT THEM FROM COSTLY FIXES...AND MY "LONG TERM INVESTMENT " MAKES ME FEEL LIKE I'M PUTTING MINE AND MY FAMILY'S HEALTH AT RISK BY DRIVING IT. I SPENT EVERY DIME I SAVED IN IRAQ ON THIS POS BECAUSE I KNEW I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO AFFORD ANOTHER VEHICLE UNTIL I'M OUT OF MEDICAL SCHOOL. *TR

I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE CAR WOULDN'T START AND HAD TO BE JUMPED. THEY REPLACE THE BATTERY AND BLAMED THE BATTERY ON THE PROBLEM. IT IS STILL HAPPENING AND I AM BRINGING IT AGAIN. *TR
