TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND LUNGED FORWARD AS THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT POWERED THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON AND DROVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT INCIDENT, HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS LATER. THE CONTACT POWERED THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON, HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
MY 2009 MERCURY MARINER STALLS WHILE ITS IDLE, AT A INTERSECTION OR JUST WAITING. IT STALLS THEN I STARTED UP RIGHT AFTER IT STALLS.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON HWY DOING 75MPH MY MERCURY MARINER 2009 IT SUDDENLY LOSS POWER AND (WHILE ENGINE WAS RUNNING) I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. "TOOL" LIGHT CAME ON. I COULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO REGAIN SPEED (ACCELERATOR WAS DISABLE) AND THE ONLY FIX WAS TO SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE AND RE-START. VEHICLE WILL START AND WORK NORMALLY I TOOK TO THE MECHANICS THE NEXT DAY HE SAID THAT NO CODES CAME UP. *TR

TRAVELING ALONG WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 65 WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY VEHICLE DECELERATES. THE "THROTTLE BODY/THROTTLE POSITION SWITCH" INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. VEHICLE HAS HAD INTERMITTENTLY GONE INTO "LIMP" SINCE THEN. LATELY IT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST ONCE PER DAY, OFTEN WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY OR ABOVE 40MPH. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED YESTERDAY (11/26/2013) AND INDICATED A P2111 DIAGNOSTIC CODE (THROTTLE ACTUATOR STUCK OPEN). THIS IS APPARENTLY A FAIRLY COMMON ISSUE ALREADY UNDER INVESTIGATION. THE SOLUTION SEEMS TO BE HAVE A DEALER REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY (ROUGHLY $400 PARTS AND LABOR). *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE LOST ALL SPEED CONTROL. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE CAR BEGAN SLOWING DOWN. I HAD TO QUICKLY CHANGE LANES AND PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, AND THEN WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AGAIN. THIS SAME THING HAPPENED TWO DAYS LATER. I HAVE READ OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE HAPPENING WITH MARINERS BETWEEN 2009-2011. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND FIXED. IT IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS TO LOSE ALL ACCELERATION CONTROL GOING 65 MPH!! *TR
DURING NORMAL HIGHWAY DRIVING CONDITIONS, CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING, COULD PUSH THE ACCELERATOR ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND GET NO POWER. ENGINE DID NOT STALL OUT, BUT WOULD NOT PROVIDE POWER. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND TURN OFF CAR, THEN TURN BACK ON, AND PROBLEM WAS GONE. AFTER ANOTHER 15 MILES OR SO IT HAPPENED AGAIN. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPORTED THAT IT WAS A BAD THROTTLE BODY AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
TURNED THE VEHICLE ON, DROVE TO END OF STREET WRENCH AKA CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED JUST AT THE SAME TIME I CAME TO A STOP VEHICLE STARTED TO SHACK AND IDLE ROUGH AND THEN RPMS STARED GOING OUT OF NORMAL RANGE WITH OUT A STABLE POSITION. AND THEN VEHICLE DIED TWICE WHILE MAKING IT BACK TO HOUSE WHERE I HOOKED UP MY OBD2 CODE READER AND STATED THE IT WAS A P2111 CODE AND STATED:"THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM STUCK OPEN" . *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE TACONIC STATE PARKWAY, TRAVELING AT APPROX. 55 MPH, THE ENGINE FAILED TO RESPOND TO THE THROTTLE AND WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL IN GEAR, THE VEHICLE MERELY BEGAN COASTING. I SAFELY STEERED THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO RE-START THE CAR (WITH SOME HESITATION). I THEN TURNED AROUND TO ATTEMPT TO DRIVE HOME. THE SAME SITUATION OCCURRED ONE MORE TIME WHILE TRAVELING HOME (APPROX. 30 MILES). I BROUGHT THE CAR TO METRIC MOTORS OF LAKE CARMEL, NY. THEIR COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL. THEY SAID THAT THEY UNSTUCK THE PART (COST TO DIAGNOSE & MAKE REPAIRS $422+) AND I AGAIN BEGAN DRIVING THE CAR. UNFORTUNATELY, AFTER VISITING NYC ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2013, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED, AGAIN WHILE DRIVING HOME ON THE TACONIC STATE PARKWAY. I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR; HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 10 MORE TIMES OVER THE 40 MILE RETURN TRIP TO MY HOME. EACH TIME THE ENGINE FAILED TO RESPOND TO THE THROTTLE AND WHILE STILE IN GEAR, MERELY BEGAN COASTING. EACH TIME, I SAFELY STEERED THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER, AND EVENTUALLY RE-STARTED THE CAR AND MANAGED TO MAKE IT HOME. *TR
UPON ACCELERATING, VEHICLE STALLED. OCCURRED ON AUG 29 AND AGAIN ON SEPT 4. HAD TO GLIDE TO A STOP ON HIGHWAY SHOULDER, PUT CAR IN PARK, TURN OFF, AND RESTART. I'VE HAD INTERMITTENT ISSUES FOR A WHILE WHERE CAR DOESN'T ACCELERATE WHEN PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATOR, THEN IT LURCHES FORWARD. FORD DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS THROTTLE BODY AND REPAIRED IT. UPON LOOKING ONLINE, THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH CERTAIN ESCAPES AND MARINERS. *JB

ABOUT FOUR WEEKS AGO I HAD NOTICED THAT THE GAS PEDAL OF MY CAR WAS ACTING STRANGELY; OCCASIONALLY, AS I WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOPPED POSITION IT WOULDN'T WORK, OR "CATCH," RIGHT AWAY, AND I WOULD HAVE TO PUSH DOWN INCREASINGLY HARD UNTIL IT MOVED. I HAD AN APPOINTMENT AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME ONE FRIDAY, STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT TO TURN LEFT, AND IT STALLED. I BROUGHT IT IN THE FOLLOWING MONDAY MORNING AND AFTER A COUPLE HOURS THE SERVICE ADVISOR AND TECHNICIAN TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW THROTTLE BODY. THEY TESTED IT AND SAID THEY COULD SEE IT "STICKING." HOWEVER, AND THIS IS WHERE MY COMPLAINT COMES IN, THEY TOLD ME A NEW PART WOULDN'T COME IN RIGHT AWAY AS IT WAS ON BACKORDER AND THERE WERE 48,000 ORDERS BESIDES MINE! IT HAS SINCE BEEN 3 WEEKS SINCE THAT VISIT WITH NO NEW PART AND NO EXPECTED DATE, AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME TODAY WHEN I CALLED THAT THERE WERE CLOSE TO 750,000 ORDERS FOR THIS THROTTLE BODY BECAUSE IT'S THE SAME PART USED IN MANY DIFFERENT VEHICLE MAKE AND MODELS. REGARDLESS, MY CAR IS PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE. WHEN I PUSH THE GAS PEDAL I MORE FREQUENTLY GET NO ACTION AND AT TIMES IT NOW ALSO ACCELERATES UNNATURALLY FAST, ALMOST JUMPS, THEN QUICKLY RETURNS TO NORMAL. YESTERDAY THE PEDAL REQUIRED SO MUCH FORCE BEFORE THE CAR MOVED THAT I THOUGHT IT HAD STALLED ON ME AGAIN, ONLY THIS TIME WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THE PART COULD COME IN AND CANNOT GIVE ME A LOANER CAR FOR AN UNLIMITED AMOUNT OF TIME, SO UNTIL THEN I AM DRIVING AROUND IN UNRELIABLE VEHICLE, NEVER QUITE SURE HOW IT'S GOING TO ACT. IT INFURIATES ME THAT THERE ARE SO MANY OF THESE PARTS ON BACK ORDER, AND YET A RECALL WAS NEVER ISSUED. HAD THERE BEEN A RECALL WHEN THE OTHER THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAD ISSUES I WOULD NOT HAVE TO SIT AROUND WAITING, WHILE FEELING LIKE I'M PUTTING MY OWN LIFE IN DANGER. *TR

THE PART (ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY) NEEDED FOR THIS REPAIR WAS ORIGINALLY BACK-ORDERED 7-8-2013 WITH EXPECTED DELIVERY DATE OF 8-7-2013. NOW THE EXPECTED FULFILLMENT DATE IS 9-23-2013. WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR JERKED AS IF I HIT MY BRAKES AND IT WOULDN'T LET ME ACCELERATE ANYMORE SO I PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE CAR WAS VIBRATING REAL ROUGH SO I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND SAT THERE FOR A MINUTE AND TRIED STARTING IT AND IT TOOK A COUPLE TRIES AND I GOT DOWN THE ROAD AND PULLED INTO WHERE I WAS GOING AND IT DID IT AGAIN AS I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT. WHEN PRESENTING THE PROBLEM TO FORD THEY WERE VERY RUDE BUT EXPLAINED I HAD HEARD ABOUT THIS ISSUE ONLINE. THEY FINALLY LOOKED AT THE CAR FOR ME AND WERE GIVEN AN ERROR CODE (OF P101 I BELIEVE). *TR
