TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AUTOMATIC IGNITION STARTER FAILED, CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO SEIZE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
THE DASHBOARD OF MY NISSAN ALTIMA 2007 IS MELTING (LITERALLY). I NOTICED A SMALL POND OF GOO LIKE MATERIAL ON MY DASHBOARD. IN LESS THAN A WEEK IT SPREAD OUT LIKE CANCER AND CONTINUES TO SPREAD. THIS POND OF GOO REFLECTS THE SUNLIGHT ON THE WINDSHIELD, CREATING A GLARE THAT BLOCKS MY VIEW AND ENDANGERS MY ABILITY TO DRIVE. NOT TO MENTION THE LOSS OF MY INVESTMENT NOT CAUSED BY IMPROPER USE OF THE VEHICLE (SEE PICTURE) I'VE UNSUCCESSFULLY TRIED TO GET NISSAN TO ASSUME THE REPAIR OF THEIR DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD. I'M NOT CLAIMING NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR OR MECHANICAL ITEMS BUT RATHER A REAL LIFE THREATENING ISSUE. I'VE TALKED TO ADRIAN (457295), JOHN (457263), JESSICA (57758). I WENT A NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THAT IT'LL CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE MELTING AND ONLY REPLACING COULD FIX THE ISSUE. TODAY NICK (7583) CALLED ME TO SYMPATHIZE WITH ME BUT HOW UNFORTUNATELY NISSAN CANNOT REPLACE MY MELTING DASHBOARD AND THAT THE ISSUE CANNOT BE ESCALATED ANY FURTHER. IT IS SHAMEFUL TO SEE HOW NHTSA HAS MORE THAN 200 REPORTS OF MELTING DASHBOARD, NISSAN CAN SPEND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN A SUPER BOWL AD #WITH DAD APPEALING TO CUSTOMER LOYALTY BUT NISSAN CANNOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY OF A DEFECTIVE MATERIAL THAT COULDN'T PERFORM IN FLORIDA. ..UPDATED 03-04-15*BF UPDATED 6/17/2015*JS UPDATED 12/09/15.*JB
WHILE GOING 65+ THE SPEEDOMETER DROPPED TO ZERO AND THE CAR COULD NOT REGISTER THE SPEED IT WAS GOING OR SHIFT PROPERLY. NOW DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE SPEEDOMETER WORKS BUT THE CAR IS JERKING AND NOT SHIFTING. *TR
THE SWAY BAR BROKE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I DO NOT DRIVE ALOT AN DID NOT RUN OVER ANYTHING. *TR
DURING ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AND INSPECTION I WAS INFORMED BY DEALER THAT THE REAR SWAY BAR ON MY CAR WAS BROKEN. THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY ROUGH ROAD CONDITIONS OR ACCIDENT TO HAVE CAUSED THIS. UPON RESEARCH I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A FREQUENT AND KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL AND IT IS DOCUMENTED EXTENSIVELY ON THE INTERNET. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30MPH, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO KICK OR JERK, AND EVENTUALLY THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING. *TR
I HAD MY CAR IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A CHUNK OF METAL HANGING DOWN IN THE REAR END WHERE THE REAR SWAY BAR USED TO BE. JUDGING BY THE WEAR ON THE BREAK POINT, IT APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN THIS WAY FOR QUITE A WHILE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE EXPRESSWAY, ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD LIT UP AND THE SPEEDOMETER DROPPED TO ZERO. I COASTED AND PULLED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE. I THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE OFF, ONLY TO EXPERIENCE THIS SAME PROBLEM SEVERAL MORE TIMES. IT IS CURRENTLY AT OUR MECHANIC'S, BUT THEY ARE HAVING DIFFICULTY TROUBLESHOOTING THE PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM INITIALLY HAPPENED WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. SHE EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM, I TOOK THE VEHICLE OUT FOR A DRIVE AND IT DID THE SAME THING. *TR
REAR STABILIZING BAR JUST BROKE OUT OF NOWHERE, THE CAR DID NOT HIT ANYTHING TO CAUSE THIS TO BRAKE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SMART KEY FAILED TO START THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 136,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND I PUT THE CAR IN CRUISE CONTROL. THE CAR COMES OFF CRUISE CONTROL AND I ENTER IT INTO CRUISE CONTROL AGAIN. THE SAME RESULTS HAPPEN. THEN I NOTICE MY RPM ACCELERATING AND MY MPH DECELERATING. I KNEW I HAD TO PULL MY VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IMMEDIATELY. AS I'M SWITCHING LANES MY CAR STARTS TO SMOKE PROFUSELY AND I SAY SMALL FLAMES FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. NISSAN AFFAIRS REFUSES TO FIX MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS EXACTLY 1, 918 MILES OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY. ALTHOUGH, MY TRANSMISSION BLEW PREMATURELY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED, THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE REAR SWAY BAR WAS RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR SWAY BAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
AFTER REFUEL THE VEHICLE FUEL GAUGE REMAINS INDICATING "EMPTY". FUEL GAUGE SLOWLY ASSUMES "FULL" POSITION AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES. *TR
DURING OIL CHANGE TECHNICIAN SAID THE REAR SWAY BAR HAD BROKEN. I WAS NOT AWARE OF A PARTICULAR INCIDENT WHEN IT HAPPENED. NOT KNOWING WHETHER THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE, I HAD THEM FIX IT. SEARCHING THE INTERNET, I FOUND THAT FAILURE OF THIS BAR DUE TO CORROSION IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2007 ALTIMAS. I WILL CONTACT THE DEALER ABOUT IT. *TR
VEHICLE LOST ABILITY TO ACCELERATE WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. *TR
WHILE APPROACHING THE GATE TO MY OFFICE PARKING LOT THIS MORNING, I ATTEMPTED TO COME TO A STOP WHILE THE GATE OPENED. AS I APPROACHED THE GATE, I COULD HAVE BEEN TRAVELLING NO FASTER THAN 4-5 MILES PER HOUR. THE BRAKES FAILED TO REACT. I FLOORED THE BRAKES, BUT TO NO AVAIL, AND CRASHED INTO THE GATE. FEARFUL OF THE SAFETY OF THE CAR, I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP, AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN PAST ISSUES WITH THE 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER. AFTER CHECKING THE CAR, I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THAT PART. IT HAD LEAKED INTERNALLY AND AT THE TIME I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE THERE WAS SIMPLY NO MORE FLUID TO PROVIDE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES. I ASKED IF THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED AT ANY SPEED, AND WAS TOLD THAT IT COULD HAVE DONE SO. APPARENTLY THE NHTSA HAS DEALT WITH COMPLAINTS ON THIS BEFORE, BUT AS A SECOND OWNER OF THE CAR, I HAD NO IDEA THIS ISSUE WAS OUT THERE. HAD I HAD TO BRAKE AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUS CASUALTIES OR EVEN FATALITIES. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND CONSIDER A RECALL OF THIS CAR. *TR
NISSAN ALTIMA 2007 2.5S REAR SWAY BAR BROKEN. *TR
YESTERDAY WHILE PULLING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY, HEARD A SOUND OUT OF THE RIGHT REAR OF THE CAR AND AFTER PREVIOUSLY SEEING HUNDREDS OF POSTS ABOUT THE WELL KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED REAR SWAY BAR DEFECT IN THE 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA, I CAME HOME, JACKED THE CAR UP, CRAWLED UNDER, AND FOUND WHAT I SUSPECTED; THE REAR SWAY BAR HAD SNAPPED ON THE INSIDE OF THE MOUNTING BRACKET TOWARD THE CENTER OF THE CAR. IT'S NOT DANGLING DOWN BECAUSE IT'S HELD UP BY THE LEFT SIDE BRACKET. THE PORTION REMAINING CONNECTED TO THE RIGHT END LINK IS STILL HELD BY THE RIGHT SIDE BRACKET. IF SOMEONE WHO DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT CARS HAD EXPERIENCED THIS DEFECT, THEY MAY HAVE DRIVEN FOR HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS OF MILES, PLACING THEMSELVES, THEIR PASSENGERS, AND OTHER DRIVERS IN DANGER DUE TO A DIMINISHED CAPACITY IN THE HANDLING OF THE VEHICLE. NISSAN IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, YET FAILS TO OFFER OWNERS ANY ASSISTANCE. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THE CAR WILL BE REPAIRED WITH A SOLID STEEL REAR SWAY BAR, NOT THE HOLLOW OEM TYPE FROM NISSAN. THERE IS LESS THAN $20 DIFFERENCE IN THE COST OF THE PARTS (OEM CRAP VS BETTER QUALITY SOLID STEEL). IT'S PAST TIME FOR NISSAN TO STEP UP AND OFFER AT LEAST PARTIAL REIMBURSEMENT TO EVERYONE THAT HAS HAD TO REPAIR THEIR KNOWN DEFECTIVE PART, AND RECALL THE CAR TO REPLACEMENT THE PART FOR THOSE THAT HAVE YET TO FAIL. IT'S PAST TIME FOR NHTSA TO "PERSUADE" NISSAN TO TAKE ACTION. WHAT MAY BE NEEDED IS A CLASS ACTION SUIT TO BEGIN THE PROCESS OF COMPENSATING ALTIMA OWNERS THAT HAVE PUT THEMSELVES AND THOUSANDS OF OTHERS UNKNOWINGLY IN DANGER. I COULD ALSO MENTION THE WELL KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED ISSUE WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER CLUTCH IN THE 2007 2.5L ALTIMA, BUT THERE WOULDN'T BE SPACE HERE TO DO IT. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND A NISSAN TO ANYONE, OR EVER BUY ONE AGAIN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND MY REAR SWAY BAR SNAPPED. IT LOOKS LIKE IT SNAPPED DUE TO CORROSION. THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN AND I WAS LUCKY I WASN'T ON THE HIGHWAY. NISSAN DEALERSHIPS ARE UNWILLING TO REPAIR IT FOR FREE BECAUSE IT WASN'T RECALLED. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
"TAKATA RECALL"HAVE PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION ENGAGING WHEN PLACED IN ANY GEAR
NOTICED A HANGING PIPE/BAR NEAR MY REAR LEFT WHEEL WHEN CHECKING TO SEE WHAT WAS MAKING NOISES WHEN I DRIVE. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT THAT WAS BUT AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE I CONFIRMED THAT IT IS THE REAR SWAY BAR FOR MY NISSAN ALTIMA HYBRID. READING ONLINE AND TALKING WITH MECHANICS I LEARNED THAT MANY PEOPLE SHARE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AS ME! BASICALLY A LOT OF PEOPLE DRIVE THEIR CAR NORMALLY AND ONE DAY ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BAR BREAKS! WITHOUT A SWAY BAR THE CAR NOW HAS DEGRADED HANDLING AND IS A HAZARD TO DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. NISSAN USA SHOULD DEFINITELY ISSUE A RECALL IMMEDIATELY REGARDING THIS SWAY BAR PROBLEM. IT IS LONG OVERDUE AND THERE IS PLENTY OF EVIDENCE OF BAD DESIGN/MATERIAL DECISIONS. NISSAN IS OBVIOUSLY NOT RECALLING NOW NOT BECAUSE IT IS UNAWARE BUT BECAUSE IT IS MORE FINANCIALLY BENEFICIAL TO GET SUED AND SETTLE. PERHAPS IT IS TIME FOR A GROUP TO SUE NISSAN OVER THIS. *TR
I REPLACED THE RADIO IN MY 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA AND WHEN I DID THE DASHBOARD AROUND THE RADIO COMPLETELY CRUMBLED. THIS IS WHEN I REALIZED THAT MY DASHBOARD WAS MELTING. MY WHOLE DASHBOARD IS MELTING. THIS IS STARTING TO AFFECT MY DRIVING ABILITIES BECAUSE ITS SO SHINY THAT IT REFLECTS IN MY WINDOW AND MAKES IT HARD TO SEE.
I CONTACT NISSAN CORP AND FILE A COMPLAINT PERTAINING TO THE ENGINE OIL COOLER. NISSAN HAD A RECALL ON THIS PART BACK IN 2007. THEY CALL IT THE 2007 CAMPAIGN. THE RESULTS WERE GIVING TO ME ON 6/11/2013 STATING THAT THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. I PAID 70 DOLLARS TO GET THE INSPECTION AT NISSAN FOR THEM TO TELL ME THEY WILL NOT REPAIR MY CAR. MY CAR IS DRIPPING MORE OIL THAN USUALLY AND THE ISSUE IS THE SAME ISSUE THEY RECALL MY MODEL CAR BACK IN 2007. MY CAR IS AT GREAT RISK OF CATCHING FIRE BECAUSE OF THE POOR QUALITY ENGINE. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 149,000.
MY NISSIAN ALTIMA, THE DASHBOARD IS STARTING TO CRACK AND MELT. THE LOCAL NEWS CHANNEL IN MY AREA DID INVESTIGATION ON THIS PROBLEM. LOOKS LIKE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. THEY ADVISE TO FILE A COMPLAINT, AND THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP ONLY SOLUTION IS TO HAVE THE WHOLE DASHBOARD REPLACED. *JS
A WEEK AGO, MY BRAKES STOP WORKING, I HAVE TO PUSH THE BRAKES COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR FOR MY 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA TO STOP. MY BRAKE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON CHECKED BRAKE FLUID STILL AND NORMAL LEVEL TOOK IT TO GET MY BRAKES CHECKED THE SAID IT WAS THE BRAKE BOOSTER. *TR
THERE WASN'T A SPECIFIC EVENT BUT ONLY AN ESTIMATED DATE OF PROBLEM. THE REAR SWAY BAR IN MY 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA SNAPPED IN HALF. I CALLED THE DEALER AND, OF COURSE, IT'S NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND NOR IS THERE A RECALL ON THIS PART. I'VE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH AND NOTICED MANY, MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE. MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVE ALSO CONTACTED NISSAN AND HAVE AWFUL RESULTS FROM THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I, ALONG WITH OTHERS, DEMAND THAT A RECALL BE PERFORMED ON THE REAR SWAY BAR FOR 2007 NISSANS. IT'S DEPLORABLE A BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY CAN'T OWN UP TO A MANUFACTURING ISSUE THAT MANY ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT. IT ALSO DOESN'T HELP THAT NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ONE OF THE WORST RATED! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS IN THE STEERING WITH A METAL TO METAL SOUND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER REGAINED CONTROL AND MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE NEAREST INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY STATED THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A FRACTURED STEERING ROD AS A RESULT OF RUST CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
JUST DISCOVERED THE REAR SWAY BAR OF THE VEHICLE IS BROKEN. CAR IS DRIVEN ON PAVED ROADS, NO ROUGH DRIVING. NOTED IT FEELS UNSTABLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS SINCE THE SWAY BAR BROKE. A MECHANIC STATED THE BAR SNAPPED FOR NO APPARENT REASON I.E NOT FROM DRIVING HABITS OR TEAR/WEAR. *TR
MY MECHANIC NOTICED I HAVE A BROKEN SWAY BAR. BROKEN INTO 2 PIECES MAKING THE CAR VERY UNSTABLE ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
CAR FEELS UNSETTLED WHEN DRIVING ON CROSS WINDS, FRONT STRUTS JUST REPLACED, WENT TO GET ALIGNMENT, FOUND TO HAVE A BROKEN SWAY BAR (STABILIZER), ON THE RIGHT SIDE. *TR
OBSERVED PIPE SUSPENDED FROM BESIDE RIGHT REAR WHEEL OF THE 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5. VEHICLE WAS PARKED. LOOKED UNDER VEHICLE AND DETERMINED IT WAS A PIPE LINKED TO THE REAR WHEEL AND SUSPENSION ASSEMBLIES. THE END OF THE PIPE WAS NEARLY DRAGGING ON THE GROUND. DID INTERNET RESEARCH CONCLUDING THAT THE BROKEN PIPE WAS THE REAR SWAY BAR OR TORSION BAR. PRIOR TO OBSERVING THE VISIBLE HANGING TORSION BAR END, WE FREQUENTLY EXPERIENCED THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE WAS UNSTABLE WHEN CORNERING AT HIGHWAY SPEED SUCH AS WHEN ENTERING OR EXITING A HIGHWAY RAMP. GIVEN THIS FREQUENT EXPERIENCE, THE ACTUAL FAILURE IN TORSION BAR FUNCTIONAL STRENGTH MAY HAVE OCCURRED MONTHS EARLIER. AFTER DETERMINING THERE WAS NO RECALL OR SERVICE BULLETIN, AND ALSO NOTING THAT NHTSA RECORDS IN THIS DATABASE SHOW OVER 50 EVENT DESCRIPTIONS NEARLY IDENTICAL TO OURS, I WENT TO THE NISSAN DEALER TO ASK IF THEY OFFERED PAYMENT OR CREDITS FOR THIS REPEATABLE DEFECT. THE DEALER WAS NOT OFFERING ANY CREDITS. THEN, TOOK MY VEHICLE TO MY MASTER MECHANIC. HE PERFORMED THE SERVICE REPLACEMENT OF THE BROKEN SWAY BAR AND END LINK ASSEMBLIES. WE RETAINED THE BROKEN SWAY BAR IN HOPES THAT NHTSA BEGINS TO RESEARCH THIS PROBLEM. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC, THIS "BAR" IS REALLY A 5/8" DIAMETER PIPE THAT SEARED NEAR ONE OF THE BUSHING SUPPORTS. THERE IS SURFACE RUST PRESENT WITHIN THE PIPE INDICATING THAT THE PIPE HAD FRACTURED SOME TIME EARLIER WITH WATER ENTERING THE FRACTURE CAUSING THE RUST. IT IS NOT A SOLID STEEL "BAR" AS TYPICALLY FOUND IN OTHER VEHICLES THROUGHOUT THE INDUSTRY. COST OF REPAIR WAS APPROXIMATELY $200 FOR PARTS PLUS 1 HOUR SHOP LABOR. WE RESPECTFULLY REQUEST THAT NHTSA INVESTIGATE THIS FAILURE DUE TO ITS APPARENT COMMON FAILURE MODE AND FOR THE POTENTIAL RISK OF INJURY SHOULD THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE LOSE TRACTION ON CURVES OR ROUGH PAVEMENT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING TO TAMPA AND CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED AND HAD TO GO ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WILL NOT START. HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE CLOSER TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP. THEY CHECKED THE ENGINE AND HAD A HOLE IN IT AND COULD NOT FIGURE WHAT THE CAUSE OF THE HOLE, IT TOOK TWO WEEKS TO GET THE DIAGNOSIS AND TOLD US WE NEED TO GET A NEW TRANSMISSION, WE PAID $5000 FOR IT AND HAD NO CHOICE AS THAT WAS THE ONLY CAR BETWEEN ME AND MY HUSBAND TO GO TO WORK. I CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND COULD NOT HELP ME EVEN IF I TOLD THEM THERE WERE OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE CAR. EVEN THE REPAIR GUY TOLD US THAT NISSAN HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS. AFTER 2 MONTHS THERE WERE MORE PROBLEMS, SEEMS EVERY FEW MONTHS SOMETHING IS WRONG AND NOW MY CAR IS SITTING AGAIN IN THE REPAIR SHOP JUST AFTER 2 YRS AND THEY SAID I NEED ANOTHER TRANSMISSION!!!!! THIS IS CRAZY, I WISH I HAD TRADE IN THE CAR BEFORE THIS HAPPENED AS THIS IS A PIECE OF JUNK. I WILL NEVER BUY NISSAN BEFORE AND HOPEFULLY I CAN GET THE WORD OUT NOT TO BUY NISSAN. *TR
FIRST, NO PROBLEMS BUT AT REGULAR OIL MAINTENANCE, THEY SAID WE HAD AN OIL LEAK. HAD IT FIXED. ENGINE STARTED STALLING. NO WARNING LIGHTS. SAID HAD AN OIL LEAK OF SOME KIND. FIXED IT AGAIN (SO WE THOUGHT). HAPPENED AGAIN TWO MONTHS LATER - CAR STARTED STALLING. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THAT TIME. TOWED IT NISSAN. SAID HAD AN OIL LEAK. FIXED IT (AGAIN WE THOUGHT). TWO MONTHS LATER RIDING DOWN ROAD AT LOW SPEED, CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE. GOT IT PUT OUT BEFORE ENGULFED BECAUSE OF A GENTLEMAN PASSING BY HAD A COOLER FULL OF WATER. ENGINE IS NOW TOTALLY NO GOOD AND HAVE ANOTHER YEAR TO PAY ON THIS CAR. *TR

REAR SWAY BAR BROKEN FOR NO APPARENT REASON. WHILE WALKING UP OUR DRIVEWAY IT WAS NOTICED THAT SOMETHING WAS HANGING DOWN ON THE REAR UNDERNEATH THE CAR. THE REAR SWAY BAR HAD SNAPPED IN HALF. THE CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN DRIVEN RESPONSIBLY. THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THIS TO HAPPEN OTHER THAN FAULTY EQUIPMENT. NISSAN SHOULD RECALL THIS PROBLEM SINCE IT IS SO COMMON. *TR

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO PASSENGER SEAT PROBLEMS IN VEHICLE. *SMD THE COSUMER STATED ANYONE WHO SAT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE AIR BAG SENSOR DID NOT RECOGNIZE THE SEAT WAS OCCUPIRED. THE WARNING READ, NP PASSENGER IN THE SEAT. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE EXACT PROBLEM. HOWEVER, HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE HEARD FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. AFTER STOPPING TO INSPECT THE NOISE, HE NOTICED A FUEL LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE FUEL TANK, WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT TO NOTIFY NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000.
I STARTED MY CAR ON THE MORNING OF 11/21/2012 AND NOTICED MY BRAKE LIGHT (!) POP ON, I LOOKED IN THE MANUAL AND READ MY BRAKE FLUID MAY BE LOW, I CHECKED AND IT WAS LOW SO I ADDED SOME THE LIGHT IS STILL ON, I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER MAY BE BAD. *TR
MY HYBRID WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR STARTED TO LOSE POWER ON THE HIGHWAY. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE HYBRID WATER PUMP HAD FAILED. NIACIN DID NOT HAVE THEIR OWN HYBRID TECHNOLOGY IN 2007 SO THE HYBRID SYSTEM IS FROM TOYOTA. TOYOTA HAS RECALLED THE HYBRID WATER PUMPS FOR THAT MODEL YEAR BECAUSE OF FAILURES. WHEN I TOLD THE DEALER NIACIN OF BOURNE IN MASSACHUSETTS ABOUT THE ISSUE AND FAXED HIM THE INFORMATION ON THE RECALL I ASKED HIM TO CONTACT NIACIN ABOUT THE ISSUE. HE STATED THERE WHERE NO CURRENTS RECALLS ON THE PART AND REFUSED TO INFORM NIACIN. I ASKED TWICE IF HE READ THE INFORMATION I FAXED HE SAID THEY RECEIVED IT AND HE HAD NOT, HE TOLD ME TO CALL 1-800-NISSAN1. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR I ASKED FOR THE PARTS AND WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE I DID NOT ASK FOR THE PART IN ADVANCE THAT THEY WERE THROWN AWAY. I CALLED ON NIACIN CORP ON NOVEMBER 15 AND WAS TOLD I WOULD RECEIVE A CALL BACK BY THE END OF BUSINESS ON NOVEMBER 16. I CALLED TWO MORE TIMES AS OF 1:25 PM 11/20/2012 NO ONE HAS CALLED ME BACK. I BELIEVE THAT THIS MAY REPRESENT A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE IN REGARDS TO THE NIACIN ALTIMA HYBRIDS SINCE NO ONE FROM NIACIN CALLED ME BACK I FEEL I HAVE TO FILED THIS COMPLAINT. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK I NOTICED A NOISE IN THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND IT WAS SAID TO ME THAT MY REAR SHOCKS ARE BAD AND THAT THEY HAD SEIZED INTO THE KNUCKLE AND WERE RUSTED. I THEN PROCEEDED TO CONTACT NISSAN NORTH AMERICA TO SEE IF THEY WOULD HELP OUT WITH THIS ISSUE DUE TO THE VEHICLE ONLY HAVING 42000 MILES. THEY TOLD ME THAT BECAUSE I HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND IT WAS NOT NISSAN'S, AND BECAUSE IT WAS NOT IN THE FACTORY WARRANTY THAT IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS VERY WELL MAINTAINED AND THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE REAR SWAY BAR WHICH COULD HAVE AFFECT ON THE REAR SUSPENSION. THEY DID NOT FEEL THAT MY REASONING FOR REQUESTING ASSISTANCE WAS VALID AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT COULD POTENTIALLY FALL APART WHILE DRIVING. *TR
REAR SWAY BAR SNAPPED OFF AT POINT INSIDE RUBBER BUSHING ON DRIVER'S SIDE. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THIS ISSUE ON VARIOUS MESSAGE BOARDS, YOUTUBE, AND THE NHTSA SAFETY COMPLAINT WEB SITE. THE SWAY "BAR" IS ACTUALLY A HOLLOW TUBE, LIKE A PIPE, WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO SUPPORT THE LOAD OF THE VEHICLE DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. BROKEN PIECE WAS HANGING DOWN VERY CLOSE TO THE GROUND (LESS THAN 1/2 INCH) AND WAS RATTLING/BANGING/RUBBING AGAINST OTHER SUSPENSION COMPONENTS AND CABLES. OTHERS MAY HAVE NOTICED SPARKS COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE WHEN HITTING BUMPS/DIPS WHILE DRIVING, WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A FIRE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. (IT IS NOT UNCOMMON FOR DRAGGING METAL TO START FIRES LIKE THIS.) I HAD ALSO NOTICED THAT WHILE MAKING TURNS, IT FEELS LIKE THE SUSPENSION IS "LOOSE" AND THE VEHICLE IS HARDER TO CONTROL. I HOPE THAT SOMEONE IS ABLE TO INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE AND GET A RECALL ISSUED BEFORE ANYONE IS INJURED OR CAUSES A FIRE. *TR
