SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING MY 2014 NISSAN ALTIMA MY WIFE HAD PULLED INTO OUR DRIVEWAY AND "PUSHED" THE STOP ENGINE BUTTON WHILE THE SHIFT LEVER WAS IN DRIVE AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS OUT INTO THE STREET INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. WE WERE LUCKY IT DIDN'T CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT! THIS CARS GEAR SHIFT "DOES NOT" HAVE TO BE IN PARK IN ORDER TO "PUSH" THE BUTTON THAT STOPS THE ENGINE IT CAN BE IN DRIVE AND THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF AND THE CAR WILL START ROLLING IF IT IS ON A HILL!. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE WITH-OUT THE ENGINE RUNNING YOU LOSE ALL YOUR POWER STEERING AND BRAKES! IF THIS HAPPENED ON A HILL OR STEEP MOUNTAIN GRADE THE CAR COULD ROLL OVER A CLIFF OR OUT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC! I CALLED NISSAN ABOUT THIS MALFUNCTION MANY TIMES AND EACH TIME I WAS TOLD "THE CAR IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED" PLEASE HAVE THEM CORRECT THIS PROBLEM ASAP BEFORE IT CAUSES AN ACCIDENT AND SOMEONE IS KILLED! "PASSENGER AIR BAGS OFF" LIGHT IS "ON" WHILE DRIVING, AT ANY SPEED, WITH AN ADULT IN FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS LESS THAT A WEEK OLD. IT CONTINUES TO OCCUR ABOUT ONCE A MONTH. I HAVE HAD THE CAR AT THE DEALER MANY TIMES. THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE DUPLICATED AT THE DEALER, THEREFORE NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. ON JUNE 15, 2016 THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER IN RESPONSE TO RECALL #16V244000. NO HELP! THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED TWICE SINCE THEN. THE PROBLEM: ALWAYS OCCURS DURING AN ENGINE START. NEVER WHILE DRIVING. IT SEEMS TO BE PART OF THE INITIALIZATION PROCESS. MAY CORRECT ITSELF AT ANY TIME. IT MAY LAST FOR A HALF A MILE OR 50 MILES. CANNOT BE CORRECTED BY THE PASSENGER STANDING OR BOUNCING CAN ALWAYS BE CORRECTED BY PULLING OFF THE ROAD AND STOPPING THEN RESTARTING THE ENGINE. I HAVE A LOTS OF CELL PHONE PHOTOS SHOWING VEHICLE SPEED, "PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF" INDICATION AND AN ADULT PASSENGER IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THESE PHOTOS ARE DATED.
THE DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME SUDDENLY STOPPED AND WHEN I APPLIED HARD PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES THEY DID NOT REACT QUICKLY, CAUSING THE CAR TO CONTINUE ROLLING AND HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED - THE FIRST TIME BEING IN EARLY SEPTEMBER. BOTH TIMES THE CAR WAS EITHER STATIONARY OR BARELY MOVING AND A HARD BRAKE DIDN'T RESPOND LIKE IT SHOULD. THIS IS THIRD NISSAN I HAVE HAD (07 SENTRA, 99 ALTIMA), AND I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM AND AM FAMILIAR WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. *TR
EXAMPLE 1. WHILE DRIVING IN MY TOWN HOME COMMUNITY AND SLIGHTLY TURNING RIGHT WHILE GOING UP A SLIGHTLY INCLINED ROAD THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND IT SEEMS THE TRANSMISSION IS LOCKING UP. GOES AWAY EITHER BY REMOVING ALL PRESSURE ON ACCELERATOR OR IF EXCESSIVE ACCELERATOR PRESSURE IS APPLIED. THE TYPE OF ACCELERATOR PRESSURE NEEDED TO STOP THE EXCESSIVE SHAKING WOULD BRING THE VEHICLE TO A SPEED THAT IS UNSAFE RELATIVE TO OBSERVED SPEEDS LIMITS IN COMMUNITY. EXAMPLE 2. THESE EXHIBITED SYMPTOMS HAVE ALSO OCCURRED WITH AN INCREASING FREQUENCY WHILE DRIVING ON CITY ROADS IN LIGHT TO MODERATE TRAFFIC: WHEN YOU ARE COASTING UP TO SLOWER MOVING TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF YOU AND THEN NEED TO ACCELERATE AS THAT TRAFFIC INCREASES SPEED, THE CAR WILL SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THIS OCCURS MOSTLY AT SPEEDS UNDER 30 -35 MPH BUT HAS BEEN FELT AT SPEEDS AS HIGH AS 55 MPH. IT FEELS AS THOUGH THE ENTIRE DRIVE TRAIN OF THE VEHICLE IS GOING TO FALL OUT OF THE CAR. VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 1200 MILES ON ODOMETER AND SYMPTOMS HAVE BEEN INCREASINGLY NOTICEABLE AND FREQUENT SINCE 605 MILES ON ODOMETER. SEPARATE ISSUE: NAVIGATION / AUDIO SYSTEM HAS FROZEN SCREEN UPON START UP AND BECOMES UN RESPONSIVE. NO ABILITY TO CHANGE PREVIOUS VOLUME LEVEL OF RADIO WHICH MAY HAVE BEEN LEFT AT HIGH VOLUME LEVEL DURING PREVIOUS DRIVE. INPUT IS NOT ACCEPTED ON HEAD UNIT OR STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS. NAVIGATION WILL NOT INITIATE. CAR MUST BE RESTARTED FOR SYSTEM TO REBOOT AND THIS MAY REMEDY THE PROBLEM FOR ONE DRIVE CYCLE OR MORE. HAS OCCURRED 5 OR MORE TIMES IN FIRST MONTH OF OWNERSHIP. SHOULD A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE IN THE DRIVE TRAIN OCCUR, I FEEL THAT I AM AT RISK OF SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY. ADDITIONALLY I AM CONCERNED THAT RESALE VALUE OF VEHICLE WILL BE DIMINISHED DUE TO DAMAGE CAUSED BY INHERENT DESIGN FLAW IN POWER TRAIN AND IN-CAR ELECTRONICS. *TR
VEHICLE SOLD AND WARRANTED TO FIRST LESSEE BY AUTHORIZED DEALER NOT SUBJECT TO RECALL. UPON INSPECTION, POSSIBLE PASSENGER WARNING LIGHT DEFECTS OBSERVED. LESSEE DEMANDED CANCELLATION OF TRANSACTION. *JS
PURCHASED NEW 2014 NISSAN ALTIMA SL 3.5L AT APPROXIMATELY 2200 MILES WHEN ACCELRATING AT A STOP LIGHT THE VEHICLE JERKED (AS IF IT COULD NOT CHANGE GEARS), HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY AT FIRST. TOOK VEHICLE TO REPAIR SHOP AT 2 DEALERS IN 2 STATES WHO COULD NOT CAPTURE INFORMATION AT THAT TIME. BY 12000 MILES WHILE RETURNING FROM VACATION (1/4/2015) THE VEHICLE WAS UNDRIVEABLE. TOOK TO LOCAL DEALER AND NEEDED A COMPLETEE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. AT THIS TIME, VEHICLE WAS JERKING, MISSING GEARS, CHANGING GEARS INDEPENDENTLY, TRYING TO GO IN TO A LOWER GEAR WHILE BREAKED AT A STOP LIGHT AND ENGINE WOULD REV TO ACCELRATE, VEHICLE SHOOK, AND WAS LITERALLY DETERIORATING EACH MILE. TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED, AT APPROXIMATELY 14500 MILES, THE SAME VEHICLE SYMPTOMS HAVE BEGUN. TOOK TO DEALER WHILE TRAVELING, THEY WERE ABLE TO CAPTURE MINIMAL DATA BECAUSE AS THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK AND SHAKE, THEIR BATTERY DIED IN THE LAP TOP. HOWEVER, SOME DATA WAS RECORDED. ADVISED TO DRIVE HOME AND FILE COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN MOTORS NORTH AMERICA (WHICH I HAVE DONE,) VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO LOCAL DEALER FOR CONTINUAL STUDY AND NEW TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. WAS ADVISED BY REPAIR MANAGER, THAT TRANSMISSIONS ARE NOW BEING KNOWN TO SEIZE WHILE BEING DROVE. I HAVE REQUESTED NISSAN PURCHASE MY VEHICLE BACK, PAY OFF MY LOAN AND REFUND ANY TRADE IN VALUES AND PAYMENTS MADE ON NMAC LOAN BECAUSE I REFUSE TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION EVERY 2000 MILES. AT THIS TIME VEHICLE IS SHIFTING SPURATICALLY AT ANY MILEAGE. MORE AT LOWER SPEEDS BUT ALSO AT 70MPH ON HIGHWAYS.
START BUT WHEN SET TO REVERSE OR DRIVE ENGINE DIE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN NEW YORK, I SUDDENLY HEARD A POP, AND REALIZED THAT THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. THE CRACK IS ABOUT 10 INCHES LONG, AND STARTS AT THE VERY EDGE OF THE WINDSHIELD, GOING TOWARDS THE CENTER OF THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF IT. THERE WAS NO IMPACT, NO GRAVEL, NO ROCKS HIT THE WINDSHIELD. THERE ARE NO CHIPS, AND NO PLACE OF IMPACT, THE CRACK APPEARED OUT OF NOWHERE. CALLED THE DEALER, THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THE WINDSHIELD UNDER WARRANTY, AND ADVISED ME TO CALL THE INSURANCE COMPANY. *TR
RADIO/NAVIGATION REBOOTS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. WHOLE SYSTEM SHUTS DOWN--NO RADIO. SOMETIMES WHEN I START THE CAR, THE RADIO BUTTONS ARE DIM/GRAYED OUT AND THE RADIO DOESN'T PLAY.
I HAVE NOTICED THAT IF YOU APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON, IT DOES NOT CUT OUT THE CRUISE CONTROL. I HAVE NOTICED THIS ON TRIPS UP AND DOWN I-95 IN A CAR WITH A HAND EMERGENCY BRAKE. I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS KNEE OPERATIONS AND ON LONG TRIPS I TRIED TO JUST PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON WHILE HOLDING THE BUTTON IN. I DID THIS BECAUSE OF TROUBLE WITH MY KNEES. I NOTICED THAT ALTHOUGH THE CAR DID SLOW ENOUGH FOR WHAT I NEEDED THE CRUISE WAS STILL ON WHEN I TOOK THE BRAKE OFF. I REALIZED THAT IF SOMEONE TRIED THIS IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION THAT THE ENGINE WOULD TRY TO ACCEL AND ALL SORTS OF BAD THINGS WOULD HAPPEN. I TRIED THIS IN EVERY MAKE CAR THAT MY FRIENDS AND I HAVE. NO ONE CUTS OUT THE CRUISE CONTROL UNDER THIS SITUATION. I KNOW THE CARS SYSTEMS KNOW THE BRAKE IS BEING APPLIED BECAUSE THE LIKE COMES UP ON THE DASH. IT WOULD BE 1 SIMPLE PROGRAM CHANGE TO INCLUDE THE CUT OUT. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE AN IMPORTANT ISSUE. PLEASE TAKE STEPS TO REMEDY THIS. I HAVE EMAILED THIS TO NUMEROUS AUTO MAKERS. VEHICLE WANDERS AND DOES NOT KEEP IN A STRAIGHT LINE. IT IS NOT STABLE . THERE IS LOT OF WIND NOISE COMING INSIDE AND THERE IS ALWAYS A SLOSHING SOUND AND BELIEVE IT IS THE FUEL. NOT SAFE AS THE FUEL ALWAYS BANGS AROUND THE WALLS. *TR
I WAS AT AN INTERSECTION PREPARING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. WHEN THERE WAS AN OPENING IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL TO PROCEED FORWARD AND AS I ENTERED THE INTERSECTION THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DROPPED THE RPM'S AND ACTED AS IF IN "LIMP MODE". I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR TO TRY TO GET OUT OF THE INTERSECTION BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND AND ONLY "CRAWLED" THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. BECAUSE I COULD NOT GET OUT OF THE INTERSECTION DUE TO THIS ISSUE ONCOMING TRAFFIC HAD TO SLAM ON BRAKES AND ALMOST HIT ME. ONCE I EXITED THE INTERSECTION I LOOKED FOR A PLACE TO PULL OVER AND STOPPED ABOUT A 500 YARDS FROM THE INTERSECTION. I THEN NOTICED THE VDC LIGHT WAS ON. I PRESSED THE VDC BUTTON AND IT LITE UP ANOTHER INDICATOR ON THE DASH SHOWING OFF. I PRESSED IT AGAIN AND THE LIGHT WENT OUT HOWEVER THE OTHER VDC LIGHT ON THE DASH STAYED ILLUMINATED. I THEN TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND WAITED A COUPLE MINUTES AND WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE THE OTHER VDC LIGHT WAS OFF AND THE VEHICLE THEN DROVE NORMAL. I HAVE SINCE NOTICED A SOUND LIKE THE TRANSMISSION SPINNING WHENI PRESS THE ACCELERATOR. I WAS SCARED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE SO I WENT HOME. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND HAD THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BUT WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO "FAULT CODES" AND THEY DID NOT KNOW WHY MY NEW CAR WHEN INTO "LIMP MODE" AND THE VDC LIGHT CAME ON. THIS CAR IS NEW AND NOW I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT! THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE SAID IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN BRING IT BACK. I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS PROBLEMS ON OTHER INTERNET CAR FORUMS REGARDING OTHER NISSAN ALTIMA'S WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. THERE IS EVEN ANOTHER ONE ON THIS SITE! THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY DEFECT AND NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED ASAP. I COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR NO MATTER WHAT I DID. *TR
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT ON DRIVER'S SIDE IS VIRTUALLY NONEXISTENT. VERY HARD TO SEE AT NIGHT.
THIS CAR MAKES A LOT OF NOISES WHEN STOPPING AT MOST SPEEDS! YOU CAN HEAR GAS MOVING AROUND INSIDE OF THE CAR LIKE YOUR AT THE BEACH SOUNDS LIKE WAVES HITTING UP AGAINST A BOAT DOCKED! HAS BEEN TO SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS AND NO ONE WILL OWN UP TO IT INCLUDING NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICES! I'M WORRIED FOR MY SAFETY AND OTHERS! *TR
RANDOMLY THIS OCCURS, WHEN SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT THE AIR BAG SIGN FOR THAT SEAT WILL SAY OFF. ON OUR LAST TRIP WE LEFT A STOP AND ENTERED THE HIGHWAY BUT THE LIGHT STAYED ON INDICATING THE AIR BAG WAS NOT ACTIVATED. WE HAD TO DRIVE LIKE THAT UNTIL WE COULD SAFELY STOP. WE THEN TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND STARTED THE CAR AGAIN, AND THIS TIME THE AIR BAG OFF LIGHT DID NOT STAY LIT. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALER 6 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHEN THE CAR IS THERE THE ONLY THING THEY SAY THEY CAN DO IS A ZERO POINT RESET ON OCS SYSTEM. THAT HAS NOT STOPPED THIS ISSUE FROM REOCCURRING. WE HAVE PHONED BERGSTROM OF OSHKOSH 5 DAYS THIS WEEK, THEY DO NOT RETURN OUR CALL. THE LAST DIAGNOSIS STATES ELECTRICAL, HOWEVER, TONY THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD US THE LAST TIME WE WERE THEIR THAT THEY DON'T WANT TO THROW MONEY AT THE CAR IT COULD BE A SENSOR, ELECTRICAL, THE AIR BAG SYSTEM OR THE SEAT. BECAUSE THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHEN WE ARE THERE THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO FIX, SO CHOOSE TO DO NOTHING. THE RECALL ON THE CAR WAS DONE 5/26/16. HOWEVER WE CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THE SERVICE ADVISOR HAS REPEATEDLY SAID IT IS BECAUSE THE PASSENGER IS NOT SITTING ON THE SEAT CORRECTLY, HOWEVER THE LAST TIME IT OCCURRED THE PASSENGER WAS SITTING IN THE SAME POSITION WHEN THE AIR BAG WAS OFF AS SHE WAS WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED CORRECTING THE PROBLEM. OUR WARRANTY WILL RUN OUT SOON. WE PHONED NISSAN AND THEY WILL ONLY GO BY WHAT THERE AUTO TECH AT BERGSTROM TELLS THEM, SO NO HELP THERE EITHER. I HAVE COPIES OF INVOICES FROM WHEN THE CAR WAS TAKEN IN FOR THIS PROBLEM.
WE WERE ONE OF THE 2014 NISSAN ALTIMA'S THAT WAS EXPERIENCING THE PASSENGER AIR BAG ISSUE: EVEN THOUGH A FULL-SIZED ADULT WAS SITTING IN THE SEAT, THE "AIR-BAG OFF" WOULD BE ILLUMINATED. IT WAS BROUGHT IN UNDER THE RECALL IN ROUGHLY OCTOBER OF 2014. AFTER GETTING THE CAR BACK, WE IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT THE LIGHT WAS STILL COMING ON WHEN A PASSENGER WAS PRESENT. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT COULD BE DUE TO HUMIDITY, AS WE LIVE IN FLORIDA. BUT EVEN DURING THE WINTER MONTHS IT STILL READ THAT THE AIR BAG WAS OFF. THIS IS CONCERNING IF IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NISSAN IS NOT PROPERLY FIXING THE ISSUE. I HEARD RECENTLY ON THE NEWS THAT MORE COMPLAINTS ARE COMING FORWARD AND I WANTED TO MAKE SURE MY VOICE WAS HEARD. THANK YOU. *TR
2014 NISSAN ALTIMA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED INDICATING THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WAS DEACTIVATED, DESPITE HIS 100 POUND WIFE WAS SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM. HOWEVER, FOUR MONTHS LATER, THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE OCS AGAIN. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR A THIRD TIME, IN DECEMBER 2014. THE DEALER CLAIMED THEY TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE WITH A PASSENGER AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *JB
TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 NISSAN ALITMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN HER GAS TANK IS FILLED OR HALF WAY FULL, THE FUEL IN THE TANK MAKES LOUD SLUCHING NOISES. THE CONTACT TOOK HER VEHICLE MULTIPLE TIMES TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED THE CONTACT TO FILE A CLAIM WITH THE MANUFACTURER BECAUSE THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THIS WAS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE AND NOT A DEFECT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8. AZ
POWER STEERING PUMP BEGAN MAKING VERY LOUD HIGH PITCH WHINING NOISE AFTER ONLY OWNING THE CAR FOR TWO DAYS. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE MANAGER LOOKED AT IT AND CLAIMED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMPS ARE ELECTRONIC NOW AND THEY DO MAKE A LITTLE NOISE BUT NOTHING LIKE THE NOISE MY CAR WAS MAKING. HE CONTACTED NISSAN THE VERY NEXT MORNING AND HAD A REP OUT TO LOOK AT IT. CURRENTLY MY BRAND NEW CAR IS SITTING AT THE DEALERSHIP NOT DRIVABLE BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING PUMP IS ON BACK ORDER. APPARENTLY NISSAN HAS 13 OF THESE PUMPS ON BACK ORDER SO MY CAR IS NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE. NISSAN NEEDS TO LOOK INTO A FIX AND RECALL THESE PUMPS BEFORE IT DOES BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

THE SUNLIGHT REFLECTS OFF OF THE BEIGE AND GLOSSY BLACK INTERIOR FINISHES AND CAUSES A MIRROR IMAGE OF THE INTERIOR SURFACES/GLARE ONTO THE FRONT AND REAR WINDSHIELDS.
