The contact owns a 2011 Nissan Juke. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light unexpectedly illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed that the failure could be related to a turbo charger failure. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for additional assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 135,194.
The timing chain rattled, wearing a hole in the timing cover causing oil leak. After driving my car and parking it, all of the oil leaked out on to the ground. When trying to drive the car, even before the oil leak, the car would completely shut off whenever I would slow down, including in the middle of intersections. After taking it to a mechanic, they told me that the timing chain had worn a hole in the timing cover, and a Nissan dealership service shop told me that I would need to get the engine replaced. Even before all of the oil leaked out, I was put in great danger not knowing when my car would shut off when driving it and slowing down. At one point, the service engine soon light came on, but it went away and the car drove like normal for a period before the oil leaked out. I was never informed about any recalls or service notices when I bought the car or when getting it routinely serviced.

TIMING CHAIN SHOWS SIGNS OF DEFECT IN MY 2011 NISSAN JUKE.ENGINE STRUGGLE/SLOW TO ACCELERATE AT INTERSECTION MULTIPLE TIMES. THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL ON VEHICLE 2014 FOR TIMING CHAIN/ TENSIONER. REPORTED TO NISSANUSA ABOUT SITUATION AND WAS TOLD ALL RECALLS WERE CLOSED ON VEHICLE, I'M JUST CONCERNED THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE RETAINING TO A PART THAT WAS ALREADY RECALLED FOR FEAR OF FAILURE AND RISK AND REPLACED WITH ANOTHER PART THAT IS INFERIOR OR REINSTALLED INCORRECTLY. SECOND FAILURE OF TIMING CHAIN AND FRONT COVER AFTER INITIAL REPAIR UNDER CAMPAIGN P4213. FAILURE IS OF EXACT SAME PARTS REPLACED UNDER CAMPAIGN, BUT NISSAN IS REFUSING TO ASSIST IN ANY WAY WITH A SECOND REPAIR. FAILURE OF THESE PARTS CAUSES A MASSIVE OIL DUMP, STALLING OF VEHICLE, AND FURTHER DAMAGE IF DRIVEN. CAR STALLED WHILE TURNING INTO A GAS STATION AND DUMPED ALL OIL.
IN 2014 NISSAN OF NORTH OLMSTEAD DID A RECALL ON OUR TIMING CHAIN WHEN THEY DID THE RECALL THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE TENSIONERS CAUSING THE CHAIN TO RUB THROUGH THE TIMING CHAIN COVER. THERE IS ALSO METAL SHARDS IN OUR OIL IN THE ENGINE. THE CAR WOULD NOT START AND WAS LEAKING OIL VERY BADLY WE TOOK THE CAR TO CONRAD'S IN LAKEWOOD AND THAT IS WHAT THEY TOLD US AND SHOWED US WITH VIDEO. *LN *TR*JB CONSUMER STATED DEALERSHIP REFUSE TO FIX.*JB

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED FOR THE SAME FAILURE IN MARCH OF 2015 (AT 49,000 MILES). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,540.

I HAVE A 2011 NISSAN JUKE. THERE WAS A TIMING CHAIN RECALL ON ALL 2011-2014 NISSAN JUKES. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF ANY RECALLS. WHEN MY TIMING CHAIN BROKE, I WAS TOLD BY HENDERSON NISSAN IN NEVADA THAT THE VALVES WERE DAMAGED BECAUSE OF THE DEFECTIVE TIMING CHAIN. A REP FROM NISSAN'S CORPORATE OFFICE TOLD ME THAT MY VIN NUMBER DOES NOT FALL INTO THE RECALL CATEGORY FOR THE DEFECTIVE TIMING CHAIN SO THEY DID NOT WANT TO PAY FOR THE $9,000 FOR A NEW ENGINE. THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN CALIFORNIA IN REGARDS TO THE TIMING CHAIN.

I BOUGHT MY 2011 NISSAN JUKE BRAND NEW. IT HAS JUST OVER 57,000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING I WAS ABOUT TO ENTER THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON BEFORE THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT JUMPED TIMING AND A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED. I'VE KEPT UP WITH ALL THE MAINTENANCE AND HAVE ALL MY RECEIPTS. I HAD THE TIMING CHAIN REPLACED DURING A SERVICE CAMPAIGN IN 2014. I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND AFTER 3 DAYS I WAS INFORMED THEY WOULD COVER 70% OF THE REPAIRS. WHICH MEANS MY PORTION IS JUST OVER $3,300. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE COVERED 100% AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH MANY OTHER EXPERIENCING THE SAME. I HATE TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I HAD MADE IT ON TO THE HIGHWAY. NISSAN IS WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND SHOULD DO MORE TO RECTIFY IT.
MANY 2011 NISSAN JUKES WERE PART OF A VIN SPECIFIC RECALL INVOLVING A MANUFACTURING DEFECT CAUSING THE THE TIMING CHAIN TO STRETCH. MY VEHICLE WAS NOT A PART OF THIS RECALL BUT I HAVE RECENTLY HAD THIS ISSUE WITH MY CAR, RENDERING IT UNUSABLE. NISSAN HAS BEEN CONTACTED BUT IS CLAIMING IT IS A WARRANTY ISSUE (THEY HAVE NOT BEEN WORKING WITH ME TO ESCALATE THIS ISSUE). I HAVE ALSO NOTIFIED MY ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE WHO RECOMMENDED I REACH OUT TO YOU. I HAD TWO MECHANICS LOOK AT IT BEFORE GOING TO NISSAN AND A NISSAN TECH CONFIRMED THAT THIS IS, IN FACT, THE ISSUE WITH MY CAR. I FOUND OUT WHEN MY CAR JUST STOPPED RUNNING WHILE IN IDLE, AND THEN IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN. MY MECHANIC FOUND AN OIL LEAK, AND A SECOND MECHANIC (MY FIRST WAS TOO BOOKED TO DIG TOO DEEP INTO THE ISSUE) FOUND THE TIMING CHAIN ISSUE AND RECOMMENDED GOING STRAIGHT TO NISSAN. SINCE THE ISSUE OCCURRED THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN AND IS CURRENTLY AT NISSAN.

HAD IT REPLACED. DROVE IT 2 WEEKS AND IT STARTED DOING THE SAME THING. SET ON THE ROAD FOR 3 HOURS. HAD IT TOWED AGAIN TO THE SHOP. HE SAID THE TURBO WENT OUT AGAIN. BEEN THERE FOR 2WEEKS ALREADY. LOST MY JOB BECAUSE I COULDN'T GET TO WORK. HAD NO WAY SO RIGHT NOW I'M WITHOUT RIDE. ILLY HAS AROUND 65,000 ON IT
